Together with his audience, Mike evaluates the impact of rhetoric in contemporary discourse and mourns the loss of influential figures like Charlie Kirk.

SPEAKER 07 :
Washington Post this morning, inversion 1,965,000 times. The walls are closing in now. Headline, President Trump is facing heat from his MAGA base. Why? MAGA leaders erupted this week after Trump said the U.S. needs more foreign workers. And newly released Jeffrey Epstein emails, some about Trump, fueled a persistent rift. They’re just not, they’re going to do their best. They got him now. They got him now. It’s all over. He’ll be out by Christmas. Uh-huh. Dream on. Dream on. What happens to people? What happens to people when the hatred just inhabits their brains, their souls, their hearts, their mouths? Remember Katie Couric from the Today Show? She’s still around. with a podcast. There was some scary news this week. Yesterday, Senator John Fetterman evidently experienced a heart episode and collapsed and got some minor injuries. He’s doing okay. He’s reportedly going to be fine. So we’re praying for Senator Fetterman. for his swift recovery. Before his accident, he sat down with Katie Couric. Now, she used to be the Today Show morning sweetheart. Remember the chippy smile and, Hi, Matt. Good morning. Good morning. Let’s go to Willard at the Weather Wall. Now, she’s just a miserable shrew. Who hates people like Charlie Kirk? And I just, the Charlie Kirk thing blows my mind. Look, Katie, he died. They killed him. Okay? An assassin killed him. Why do you want to keep beating him up? And here’s Katie Couric. Supposedly interviewing John Fetterman, you’d think there’s questions about the shutdown, about the rabid left taking over the Democrat Party, about the future of Chuck Schumer in leadership. All kinds of things you could talk about. The border. Instead, she wants to know why people loved Charlie Kirk. She wanted some answers from John Fetterman as to why Trump and Vance… paid respects to Erica and the kids and those of us mourning the assassination of a 31-year-old influencer like Charlie Kirk. This is not made up. This isn’t AI. This actually happened on Katie Couric’s podcast.
SPEAKER 09 :
Do you think that flag should have been flown at half staff? Do you think his body should have been flown on Air Force Two? Do you think he should have posthumously be given the Presidential Medal of Freedom? I think some people felt that that was perhaps over the top in terms of mourning someone like Charlie Kirk. How did you feel about that?
SPEAKER 06 :
I’d say that that was his choice and his prerogative. And that’s that’s where that’s that was that was really entirely up to him.
SPEAKER 09 :
Did you have any issues now in hindsight over some of the things that Charlie Kirk said and some of the rhetoric he used during his life?
SPEAKER 06 :
I didn’t agree with much of it. I didn’t closely follow his specific kinds of views, but I did. I’m sure you learned about them after his death, though. No, I haven’t done a deep dive on it. You know, I described I mean, we’ve all seen that terrible video. Perhaps if you’ve seen the actual video, I have. And it’s like appalling. And that’s part of the political violence. And from what I’m saying, it’s like that’s unacceptable. And engaging in a debate and views I strongly disagree on. That’s part of the American democracy. And for me, it’s that would never justify anything. What’s happened? And I just chose not to take the opportunity to argue his views after after children lost his father in the most violent public way. I mean, so that’s I would say the equivalent, the equivalent on the left might be, say, Mr. Piker. I strongly disagree with his views, but I would I’m appalled if something like that happened to him. Oh, my God. I mean, that’s you know, like we have to we have to disagree in better ways where, you know, you’re going to solve it by shooting people. And that’s why the kinds of rhetoric we have to turn the temperature down. Extreme rhetoric makes it easier for extreme reactions or to justify them.
SPEAKER 09 :
I think some people might say Charlie Kirk’s rhetoric was extreme. You know, I think that’s the conversation that happened. People condemned political violence, but they also felt a great deal of discomfort with his language suggesting that these kinds of words lead to violence. I don’t know. I’m just kind of sharing my observations as I saw the conversations unfold.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think we agree that we probably didn’t agree with much of what he said. But I think we I’m sure we both agree that you shouldn’t shoot people, you know, and you shouldn’t execute them in public. And that’s I think that’s two things must be true, that free speech. I’m an absolute free speech guy. And you have the right to say these things. And you definitely also have the right not to get shot by sharing your views.
SPEAKER 07 :
I had to call my team after I saw that clip and say, is that real or is that AI? Did somebody pretend that Katie Couric has turned into such a soulless ghoul that she wants to debate whether or not Charlie had it coming? I mean, that’s what she’s saying. And, of course, that lazy, pathetic… excuse of interviewing by saying, some people, some people say, yeah, you’re saying it. You’re saying it, you miserable, wicked woman. It’s the craziest thing. They killed him, Katie. You don’t need to worry about his voice anymore. Now, I know you’ve got to worry about the millions of people who want to carry his legacy forward. But he is dead, right? You do know that, right, Katie? You don’t think he’s coming back, do you? The wickedness of these people. Scott Jennings reposted that exchange on X, our colleague here at Salem and CNN contributor, and Scott wrote, These aren’t questions that Katie Couric was asking. These are just her hateful views being laundered as questions in the hopes someone will join her ghoulish attempts to smear Charlie Kirk and blame him for his own murder. Fetterman, Scott writes, once again proves his backbone and his moral compass. I’m just so sickened by people like Katie Couric who strut around with this moral superiority, and they are—I’m sorry to name-call here, and I know Tracy gets mad at me when I call names. She’s vermin. She’s trash. What a garbage line of questioning. But maybe that wicked ghoul is letting us get a glimpse into the souls of these people marching around celebrating Charlie’s death. Maybe she has the key. Maybe that’s how they feel. Charlie, he had it coming. The rhetoric he used, yeah, that’s what happens. You had what’s coming to you. It was over the top. People actually loved this guy. His body was on Air Force Two because he was friends with Vice President J.D. Vance. Have you thought about how terrible that is? Wow. Like my friend Mark always says, Trump derangement takes smart people, makes them stupid, and it takes nice people and makes them mean, although I’m not sure Katie Couric was ever nice. She played nice on TV. Maybe I’ll tell you the story about when I was sent over to England to cover Princess Diana’s funeral, and I was standing behind Katie Couric in the first class line at the airlines, and she was throwing a hissy fit because one of her entourage didn’t get upgraded into first class. Not sure she was ever a real nice lady. Anyhow, 800-655-MIKE. We’re the Relief Factor Studios. Welcome aboard. It’s Friday. We made it. And incidentally, a lot of people are joking about Katie sounds like she had like four packs of Newports this morning. It does. She sounds like she’s got that smoker voice. Some people are wondering if Charlie didn’t have it coming. Come on, Senator Fetterman. Dive in. Didn’t he bring it on himself? Because he was a conservative who preached the gospel and loved talking about God and the Lord and believed in faith and family and freedom? Some people think that he deserved it. Right, Senator? What a monster. What a monster.

SPEAKER 07 :
You know me. I love callers that disagree with me. Karen from Vancouver, Washington says, I’m mistaken in my analysis of Katie Couric. I can’t wait to find out what’s on Karen’s mind. We’ll do that in 60 seconds. But let me take a minute to remind you of Relief Factor. I want you to meet Bob. He’s 63 years old. He spent 40 years as a body man and a car painter. He wrote in, I could barely walk. I couldn’t make it up the steps. By day four or five of Relief Factor, I felt the change. After eight days, I was about 75% better. I’m so comfortable now, and I’m thoroughly impressed. These Relief Factor transformations cannot be ignored. If you’re living with daily aches and pains, Relief Factor might just be the answer for you. Try the three-week quick start. Let’s see if we can get you out of pain, too. Visit relieffactor.com. It’s 100% drug-free. And how do I know it works? Because I’m a customer. If I forget to take my Relief Factor, that lower back pain that I used to have starts creeping back. So I know it works. Relieffactor.com. Relieffactor.com or call 800-4-RELIEF. Again, the three-week quick start is kind of a low-cost way for you to take it out for a test drive and see if we can get you out of pain. I’ll bet we can. ReliefFactor.com, ReliefFactor.com, or call 800-4-RELIEF. Karen, I’m seeing on the screen that you think I’m mistaken. Let me start by pointing out that I think that line of questioning from Katie Couric is one of the most obvious. wicked things i’ve ever seen or heard i can’t believe that that john fetterman said on three occasions well we agree that you don’t kill people when you disagree right and at no point did she agree with him so tell me what in the world you think my where my analysis is lacking today okay well i didn’t hear i just turned in and didn’t hear the the backstory on that part and she’s
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, she was off base there. But I think we’ve got to be really careful about overreacting. I really enjoyed listening to you. And I loved Charlie Kirk and what he said and everything. But I think when someone says what I heard her say in that one statement was, some people think, blah, blah, blah, that his rhetoric was inflammatory or whatever. It was this statement. And it just seemed like overreaction. We’ve got to be careful because some people, a lot of people do feel that way. I don’t know why they do. I think it’s crazy. But it definitely isn’t worth violence, and it was all wrong and everything. But I think we’ve got to be really careful.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, there’s no but after that. I mean, you said a but after there’s no excuse for violence, but. No, there’s no excuse for killing somebody because of their views. You give me a great opportunity to kind of push back here gently, and I appreciate your perspective. I think you’re guilty of underreacting. And I think we better be very careful not to underreact. Karen, there was a woman named Katie Couric who just suggested that Charlie Kirk got himself killed. Now, that’s what that interview, that’s exactly what she said. Well, you know, some people would say that his rhetoric was inflammatory. What’s the point in debating Charlie Kirk’s rhetoric now? He got killed, Karen. He’s dead. Well, good point. And people on the left are normalizing political violence. And you know why they’re normalizing it? I don’t mean to pick on you, but because people like you are underreacting. We better embrace this. We better stare this evil in the face. If you think that it’s normal to debate the talking points that Charlie Kirk used as somehow a contributing factor to his own assassination, this 31-year-old husband and parent, my gosh, Karen, we’re going to be in big trouble here. We can’t normalize violence.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, you’ve got to make a good point. I think we just have to be careful about our tone because that’s the only way that we’re going to be able to reach people across the aisle.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right, right. Well, I don’t know how to reach anybody who thinks that somebody getting killed for their views is somehow justifiable. But here’s the mistake, and I guarantee you, and I appreciate your call, Karen. I’m sure Karen was a Katie Couric fan back in the day. Karen loved the Today Show. Karen lay, oh, perky Katie. Oh, don’t be too harsh. No, no, you can’t be harsh enough to people like this. We’ve got to stand up to this, and we’ve got to call it out and stop acting like it’s normal. Look at good for John Fetterman. Good for him standing up and basically saying, are you crazy? Are you honestly sitting around saying, wanting to debate Charlie Kirk’s rhetoric? Rhetoric? Yeah, a lot of rhetoric about believing in Jesus Christ and a lot of rhetoric in supporting godly principles, a lot of rhetoric in ministering to people, a lot of rhetoric in creating a movement that created millions of young people. And because of his effectiveness… One of those twisted, sick, evil, demonic monsters thought it would be appropriate to kill him. And it’s the same. To me, I draw a lot of parallels between the Charlie Kirk assassination and the assassination of the UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson. The left thought that was a normal thing to do. They don’t like the healthcare insurance industry. So kill the guy that’s the CEO of one of them. Just put a few bullets in his back and let’s act like it’s a normal day. And I’m so glad, Karen, you brought up reaction. And the way you framed it is perfect. The downfall of Western civilization is going to be when people like you underreact. The downfall is going to be, well, you know, you got killed, but maybe that’s what you got to do. If somebody says things that we don’t like, if somebody’s the CEO of an industry we don’t approve of, we just kill them and then let’s just go on. What else is in the news? No, evil has to be confronted, Karen. Don’t be a part of it. Don’t be a part of the problem. Let’s have solutions here. 800-655-MIKE. You ready to drop up to 20 pounds or more by the new year? Have you been struggling with belly fat forever? You know, the older you get, the harder it is to say goodbye to those unwanted pounds. PHD Weight Loss cracked the code. SPEAKER 01 :
Today we’re sending a clear message that we will never give in to extortion because that’s what it was. They tried to extort. The Democrats tried to extort our country. In just a moment, I’ll sign a bill exactly like we asked Democrats to send us all along many days ago. This cost the country $1.5 trillion, this little excursion that they took us on.
SPEAKER 08 :
On Salem News Channel and Salem Radio Network, here’s Mike.
SPEAKER 07 :
When you see my little Trump MAGA Christmas tree, I ordered ornaments yesterday. I was going to have you send me some, and then I got talked out of it because people started pointing out it’s probably a bad idea, Mike, for you to invite people in the audience to send you something that you’re going to hang in your dining room. And the more I got to thinking about it, I thought, because I see all these videos of like packages blowing up on people’s front porches. With my luck, I’ll be sitting there watching one of my crime documentaries in my bathrobe and the tree will blow up. And Tracy didn’t want to open the packages. I was going to make her open the packages. And she’s like, I don’t want to open the packages. You open the packages. I said, well, shake it around. Listen if it’s ticking or not. Incidentally, they dropped the last night was the newest episode of Devil in Disguise, the Murtaugh family. Alec Murtaugh, the guy that killed his wife and kid. You want to talk about evil? Oh, boy. And they’ve done a dramatization of it. It’s over on Hulu. And they’re dropping an episode every Wednesday night. So I watched the latest episode. Man, oh, man, what a story that is. Can you imagine… dipping into the depths of hell so badly that you would, as a successful lawyer in the low country of South Carolina, you’re part of this family of lawyers and this whole Murtaugh legacy, you wound up slaughtering your wife and son? He was into pills and everything and was stealing from the law firm. It’s quite a story. But anyway, if you like that true crime stuff, check out Devil in Disguise. So my little MAGA tree, do you have a Christian to pop it up there for if you’re watching on Salem News Channel? I got a little red tinsel tree in my dining room. Haven’t put the big tree up yet. I’m going to do that this weekend. And I’m going to put MAGA ornaments on it. And I bought a bunch of cheesy, cheap, Trump, MAGA, Make America First Again Christmas ornaments I’m going to put on that little Charlie Brown tree. Should be a lot of fun. I’ll keep you posted with the little MAGA Christmas tree. Hey, let’s get serious for a moment and talk about what’s happening in Ukraine. Elderly Jews are trapped in unbearable poverty. For example, Galena, a 96-year-old Holocaust survivor, she’s been her whole life in the same village. She’s sick. She’s alone. She’s facing another bitterly cold winter. Today, like every day, she’s got to decide whether to spend what little money she has on food, medication, or heat. No one, no one should have to live like this. But this is the harsh reality for many in Ukraine. The Bible tells us that when you bless elderly Jews living in poverty like Galina, you’ll receive blessings in return. Through the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and your generous donation, you can bring hope to people in need. Your gift of $25 will help provide a food box packed full of life-saving essentials that will help feed an elderly Jew struggling to survive. Don’t delay. Your gift will provide the life-saving food and hope that Galena and many like her so desperately need. Just visit UrgentIFCJ.org because, of course, the need is urgent. Visit UrgentIFCJ.org, UrgentIFCJ.org, or call 866-338-IFCJ, 866-338-4325. The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. Speaking of President Trump, he reacted to the latest wave of Epstein drama. He posted on Truth Social, the Democrats are doing everything in their withering power to push the Epstein hoax again, despite the DOJ releasing 50,000 pages of documents in order to deflect from all of their bad policies and losses, especially the shutdown embarrassment. where their party is in total disarray and has no idea what to do. Some weak Republicans have fallen into their clutches because they’re soft and foolish. Epstein was a Democrat. He is the Democrats’ problem, not the Republicans’ problem. Ask Bill Clinton, Reid Hoffman, Larry Summers about Jeffrey Epstein. They know all about him. Don’t waste your time with Trump. I have a country to run. I came into work debating in my mind, do we mention the Epstein stuff? I mean, it’s all over the mainstream media. I’ve got people arguing with me, oh, MAGA wants to know, MAGA wants to know. No, no. It’s not worth anybody’s time because it’s the Russia collusion hoax all over again. It’s the crap file. The Democrats lean into something they think they can pull out of their you-know-what to try to throw it at Trump to try to make it stick. It’s not going to stick. Nice try. I mean, everybody involved has acknowledged over and over again Trump had no culpability whatsoever. But, look, this is the best they got. which is pretty encouraging because you’ve got to remember that’s a reminder that they don’t have very much. 22 minutes before the hour, here’s a text message from Pittsburgh on creepy Katie Couric. Well said, Mike. The reaction needs to be huge. Look, you’ve got to make sure that we don’t normalize violent extremist radicalism. And I saw it coming, the way the world reacted to the killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO. Oh, Luigi, Luigi, you’re our hero. What? It’s a monster. If he did what the police said he did and what the state of New York says he did, execute him. I mean, he executed a young husband and father, apparently. because he didn’t like the health care insurance industry. There’s nothing normal about that. And Karen, our caller here to get my blood boiling, well, be careful about tone. You know, it’s about Katie. No, no, you’ve got to have a tone. You better have a tone if somebody’s normalizing violence. Patrice is in Montgomery, Alabama. Hey, Patrice, welcome to the Mike Gallagher Show. How are you today? I’m okay. Okay, good. Glad you called. What’s up?
SPEAKER 11 :
I’m just calling about the way that you handled that call from that woman, Karen. Yes. You were calling a spade a spade. We’ve got to start calling these people out that are making excuses for all this bad behavior, Mike.
SPEAKER 05 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 11 :
I’m tired of these talk show hosts letting people get away with calling up and just saying stuff and they’re getting in there. Oh… I guess so. Yeah, let’s lower the temperature.
SPEAKER 06 :
Go ahead.
SPEAKER 11 :
What Katie Kurtz said, that was unfulfillable. And the man is dead. Is that not enough? Did he not pay enough? Well, I just can’t even believe that people would talk about people who have died like that. And… And Katie Couric, you know, she was always known for being, you know, a little bit of a sweetheart and everything. But I’m telling you what, it’s just where I’m from in the South, you just don’t talk about people that have died like that in the first place.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s right. But, Patrice, you said something a minute ago that’s so important. They killed him, okay? There’s no reason to continue to debate him. What in the world are you debating? In other words, what more can they do to somebody? Well, Katie Couric’s got the answer. Katie Couric’s point is, hold my beer. I’ll show you what I can do. I’ll interview a prominent U.S. senator, and I’ll try to goad him into saying bad things about Charlie Kirk. I’m going to pretend, well, some people, some people. That three-minute interview clip literally sickened me. It made me physically ill to think that that horrid little woman believes she’s doing some kind of journalism. And her line of questioning does try to normalize political violence. Look, the left has a serious problem on their hands. The Democrats have a problem on their hands. Their party is being overrun by vicious, violent, evil, wicked people. Here was J.D. Vance with Sean Hannity last night talking about the Democrats and how afraid they are of this rabid, radical leftism that is enveloping their party.
SPEAKER 02 :
Privately, we were having conversations all the time. And frankly, privately, the Democrats would recognize the position of their far left was crazy. But they all feel a little bit like they’re being held hostage by their far left. You said it very well. Chuck Schumer, this probably ended his career. And he was the person who was fighting more than anybody to keep the government shut down. So the far left, they’re never going to be satisfied unless the Democrats are willing to burn down the entire country.
SPEAKER 07 :
And they want to burn down the entire country. And by burning down the entire country, that includes killing people they don’t like. They want to shoot people like Charlie Kirk dead in front of thousands of people at a college campus in Utah. They think that’s normal. And if you’re not recognizing how dire it is right now to let an entire political movement get away with this, Again, like I said to Karen, and bless her heart. I mean, as she was a Southerner, bless your heart that you think it’s okay to talk about slaughtering somebody for their political point of view. Look, I wonder what people who hate Charlie Kirk, like Katie Couric obviously does, what she thinks he said to deserve being killed for. What one thing? Could somebody tell me? What did Charlie Kirk say that would warrant Getting a bullet in the neck. I’m all ears. 800-655-MIKE. I love what Illinois just texted me on the MyPillow text line. Millions who buy their own coverage are going to face skyrocketing premiums, some doubling during open enrollment. There’s still time to act. Look, this is Epstein news. Don’t shoot the messenger. I know the inclination is to move away from that because they’re just using Epstein to weaponize it against Trump. But President Trump said earlier, moments ago, that he has directed the Justice Department to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s ties to several high profile Democrats and certain banks. Trump said on Truth Social moments ago, now that the Democrats are using the Epstein hoax involving Democrats, not Republicans, to try and deflect from their disastrous shutdown and all of their other failures, I will be asking Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots of the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, JPMorgan Chase, and many other people and institutions to determine what was going on with them and him. All right, Democrats, be careful what you wish for. Tom’s in Alabama talking about the disgraceful Katie Couric interview with Charlie Kirk. I mean, about Charlie Kirk with John Fetterman. Hey, Tom, welcome. How are you?
SPEAKER 04 :
I’m doing quite fine. I love it here in Alabama. Thank you. The reason why I called is that if I was John Fetterman, I would not have said I disagreed with what Charlie Kirk said. I would have said, Katie Kirk, you tell me one thing in the whole history of his life. speech on television and wherever. You tell me one thing that he said. You quote me one thing he said to inspire violence. Now, a lot of Democratic politicians, including senators and congressmen, have directly said to do violent things to MAGA people. Now, just one thing that Charlie Kirk said, quote it to me so I can hear it.
SPEAKER 07 :
Just one. You’re right. That’s my point. A great point. That’s what I said a minute ago. I mean, what in the world would they say? Yeah, this is what his position was that justifies assassinating him. Look, you know my rule. These people are nuts. I’ve been thinking a lot about Dennis Prager this week. It was one year ago that he had that tragic fall in California. He is sorely missed. I want to share a beautiful tribute to my friend and colleague Dennis from Garrett Seawright over at Barrett Media. It’s a beautiful, beautiful message about the legacy of Dennis Prager, which continues. Stick around. There’s more coming up.
