Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right thumb during a workout on September 25, 2025. He and the team are consulting with specialists to determine the best course of action.

ESPN’s Tim Bontemps was first to report on X: “Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain suffered a UCL tear in his right thumb during a workout today, sources told ESPN. He and the team are working with specialists to decide how they will proceed, sources said. Philadelphia is set to hold media day tomorrow.”

This is the second significant injury for McCain in his young career. In December 2024, during his rookie season, he suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee, which required surgery and ended his season after 23 games. McCain was considered an early frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year award, averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds in the 2024-25 season prior to his knee injury.

The average recovery time for a UCL tear in the thumb that requires surgery is roughly 9.6 weeks. This could mean a potential return for McCain around December if surgery is required. However, the team has indicated a desire to be cautious with his recovery.
