(Worthy News) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel’s decision to accelerate the construction of artificial intelligence server farms represents a “major breakthrough” and a strategic step toward strengthening the nation’s global standing.

Speaking at the weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu emphasized that leadership in artificial intelligence—and potentially quantum computing—will be decisive in shaping Israel’s future military and geopolitical influence.

“This country is small; it needs to have immense power,” Netanyahu said, underscoring the importance of technological superiority both for military strength and the ability to project force. He described the initiative as part of a broader security vision that he plans to present in the coming days.

Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen said the government is removing regulatory barriers and expediting planning approvals to fast-track the construction of large-scale data centers.

“Today we are presenting a motion to remove barriers and accelerate processes for building data centers, which is a crucial step on Israel’s path to becoming a global artificial intelligence powerhouse,” Cohen said.

According to Cohen, planning and construction procedures have begun over the past three months for facilities with a combined capacity of one gigawatt—representing more than five percent of Israel’s national energy consumption. He said the expansion is expected to create thousands of jobs and generate billions of dollars in revenue.

To support the growing energy demands, Cohen added that Israel will double the number of power plants under construction by the end of the decade, including both gas-based and renewable energy facilities.

Netanyahu framed the move as essential for a “small and threatened country,” arguing that technological leadership is critical not only for economic growth but also for maintaining a strategic edge in an increasingly competitive global environment.
