We’ve got to get this walked back and get government involved. back into its proper role, and we’ve got an opportunity right now to do that. And remember, if something’s a good idea, you do not have to use force to implement it. If you have to use force or any of those force words, then it’s really not a good idea. Our word of the day is intrepidity, and we use that typically every Friday when we have our quote of the day is from the Medal of Honor quote book from the Center for American Values. As we read the citations of each of these Medal of Honor recipients, it normally starts out with the word intrepidity in that. He was an American politician and actor. He was the 40th president of the United States. So I saw the headlines, and the Fed dropped the rate a little bit, yes?
SPEAKER 16 :
Yep, they lowered by a quarter again. Second time, they did a half back in September, if you remember, and then we did a quarter in November and a quarter in December, which you would normally think is a good thing, would be celebrated, but the market did not. Like we talk about a lot, it’s not necessarily what they do, it’s what they say after the meeting a lot. and the market did not necessarily like it. And so I’m not sure if you saw, but the Dow went down about 1,100 points yesterday. Yeah, I saw that headline. Over 700, yeah.
SPEAKER 20 :
So what was said afterwards that the market reacted that didn’t like it?
SPEAKER 16 :
So people try to speculate or guess what the Fed is going to do moving forward. The Fed does issue something called a dot plot, which is kind of like, their best guesstimate on what they think they might do with the rates going forward for like the next year and people were anticipating i think it was four rate cuts next year at least through 2025 and they cut that down to probably two to three at the most um the reason is it’s what you and i talk about a lot kim is you know the data that they watch whether you believe that that’s the data they should be watching or not but the data that they do watch like unemployment The unemployment rate is still at about 4%, which is great. People aren’t losing their jobs, which happens a lot when interest rates rise. And prices in the grocery store and other places are being a little bit more stubborn than they want. Inflation kind of came down and then stopped for a little bit, and they don’t want it to go back up. And so they’ve signaled that they’re not going to lower as much as people may have thought. And that’s what scared the market, because a lot of companies in the stock market rely on borrowing money to grow, and they want cheaper money, obviously, and if rates aren’t going to go down as much, then the money won’t be as cheap.
SPEAKER 20 :
So, Lauren, we talk about it all the time, and is this government-induced inflation and the devaluing of the dollar, and it happens when government prints money. And with the Biden-Harris administration heading out the door, it’s like they can’t spend money fast enough. It seems like if we could stop that or claw that back, that would be very helpful for America’s finances. What do you think about that?
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, I mean, I think any time, I agree. But when you stop spending money, that’s the term they use, that’s called tightening, right, at some level. And, you know, taking money out of supply is good because it doesn’t create the inflation, which is nice. But when you’ve got, you know, a watchdog or like a Federal Reserve whose job is to watch inflation and watch employment, they’ve just got to do what they think the data says. Drives them to do so I agree. I think you know anytime you can stop printing money and start to claw back some of it It is good It just takes time and so I think rates are just gonna be a little higher so you know as far as we’re concerned the initial effect on the mortgage market is you know we talked a lot about the 10-year Treasury right I was in studio the other day where in September when rates hit their bottom right before the first Fed cut the 10-year Treasury was three point six three and And rates hit about 599%. Today, the 10-year is at 454. Wow. So almost a full percent higher, which means rates are back up at like the 7 range. So what does that have an effect on? It puts a crimp into maybe what people can afford on their monthly dates just when they go to buy a home.

Right.
SPEAKER 16 :
And what that means is it’s more important than ever to pre-qualify, stay pre-qualified, stay in touch with the person you’re working with. If you’re working with us, stay in touch as rates move around as you look for a home. But again, as always, if we can help you and help you get pre-qualified in a monthly payment that you can handle and afford and get into a home that you love, at some point, the consensus is that rates will come down. And that’s when we would refile you into a much better payment but for now rates are higher than they were even just you know even a week ago wow okay well lauren levy um how can people reach you because being prepared is half the battle and so how can people reach you and it’s a complimentary appointment yep the best way is just call 303-880-8881 and you know what i would say is we’re in a time right now of of news and action right because we’ve We’re between administrations, which is not necessarily, you know, we all think good things are coming, but there’s a lot of news and rumors of what might happen, what might not happen. And then there was a time when Colorado was a tropical rainforest. And so the climate has always been changing. But that’s why I like to mention these weather events. 1551, the Dutch West Coast was hit by a hurricane. In 1732, Benjamin Franklin, under the pseudonym of Richard Saunders, begins publication of Poor Richard’s Almanac, which he produced annually for 25 years. On this day, 1776, Thomas Paine publishes his first American Crisis essay, beginning with these words, these are the times that try men’s souls. 1777, Washington settles his troops at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. And then several of our guests that we have recorded for next week, as we were talking about Christmas, has referenced the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. And it was published in 1843, and there were 6,000 copies that were sold. Let’s see. There’s others that are just super interesting things. Oh, 1948 was the eighth largest snowfall in New York City history. 15.3 inches. Let’s see, 1941, Adolf Hitler takes complete command of the German army. So just think about the timing. So December 7th, 1941, the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor and And here we are, what, now we’re on the 19th, and Adolf Hitler takes complete command of the German army over on the European front. Let’s see. Oh, I thought a couple of things. 1998, do you remember this? U.S. House of Representatives votes to impeach President Bill Clinton over the Lewinsky scandal, forwarding the articles of impeachment to the Senate for a trial. And a couple other things here.

Since drones are in the news so much, and of course we talk about vaccines as well. In 2018, the first use of a drone to deliver vaccines to an island of Aramango Vanatu by UNICEF. So and then 2018, U.S. President Donald Trump announces the victory over the Islamic State and planned withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria. Wow. That just fast forward now to 2024 under the Biden-Harris administration and the Middle East is on fire. 2022, and I’m sure Jenny, one of our listeners, remembers this. 2022, 190 countries agree to protect 30% of the world’s land and oceans by 2030 and other measures to halt declining global biodiversity at the UN Biodiversity Conference in Montreal. So there’s that pesky 30 by 30 that they’re trying to take more land and water and not let humans access it. And ultimately, it will make human flourishing will decline. And then this last one, 2023 Colorado Supreme Court rules that Donald Trump is ineligible to run for president. after participating in an insurrection under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. And, of course, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned that. So that’s a whole bunch of things that happened in history. Regarding our news articles, the first one – and now this is from The Rolling Stone – It says, Musk kills government funding deal, demands shutdown until Trump is sworn in. And Susan had texted me and said that there was a lot of nasty stuff in this CR, this continuing resolution. And as I commented that we need to get government back in its proper role, Susan texted me. She said, I think we’re definitely going to get our government back under control. The Democrats are whining on X about Ilan snapping his fingers and crushing this nasty continuing resolution. Again, they were trying to get this done before Donald Trump takes office. And she says, if you look at the comments under the Democrats post, people are explaining that Ilan just amplified everything. everyday people’s voices. So I think that that’s pretty important. And then next thing, this is a headline from the Daily Mail. It says, fury as California gets the green light to ban all gas cars in this Democrat state by 2035. The Environmental Protection Agency granted this on Wednesday, and it was to request from California to enforce strict standards for vehicle emissions after it found opponents were not able to meet the legal burden of how it was inconsistent with the Federal Clean Air Act. This is an assault upon our freedom of mobility. Our grid can’t handle what’s going on now from an electric standpoint. So how the heck is that going to work out in California if everybody has to have an electric car? Well, let’s just connect the dot. I said, let’s just connect the dot. And that is that ultimately people will not be able to have their own personal vehicle. That means that they will not have freedom of mobility. And one of the ways that they’ll get to this 30 by 30 is that if people don’t have vehicles where they can travel to go, for example, in Colorado, So many people love the mountains, love to hike, love to have their personal vehicle to get up to the mountains to bike, ski. And if they don’t have that personal vehicle, then they’re not going to be able to. And so all this stuff is connected on all this. And ultimately, they want people to live in these apartments that they are using government funds. favorable financing to build, a local level, incentives, fast tracking, permits, variety of things. They want people to live in these little boxes, not have families, travel around on trains and buses. And that’s what their vision is because they don’t really like human flourishing very much. I personally like human flourishing, and that’s why we do the show so that we can talk about it. and protect that. Another headline that I wanted to hit, Gavin Newsom, apparently he wants to run for president. And then we see that Jared Polis is trying to posture himself as more of a libertarian when we are truly under the thumb of bureaucratic administrative government here under Jared Polis. But both of these guys, they want to run for president. They’re both running their states into the ground. And this is from the Washington Examiner. It says Newsom claims job growth. However, the feds say the state lost 156,300 jobs in the first half of 2024. And we talked a little bit about it yesterday. With that forced minimum wage, over 6,000 people lost their jobs in California in just the fast food industry. And, of course, many of those that own these different franchises, McDonald’s and these different franchises, these are entrepreneurs. So it’s making it more and more difficult for our entrepreneurs as well. And so… We’ve got to reclaim our country. We’ve got to reclaim our state. Thank you. Well, you know, the courage to influence is really your word of the day. It’s having the fortitude to take action and really impact others, even when you’re uncomfortable or challenged to do something. And I love this topic because it essentially takes one person to stand up for their beliefs, their ideas, to speak out when others are you know, potentially forcing you to go one way and you have the resistance to go another and bring about a positive change about something. So, and it really, for me, it’s about advocating for things like individual rights and understanding what motivates people. That’s why we started the Liberty Toastmasters Club to give people their voice. And so one example I think that comes to mind and kind of will send the base for this topic is the idea of the Overton Window, which I know a lot of people think they know about, but it’s really a way to understand what’s happening. It’s not a strategy. And there was a gentleman named Joe Overton who worked in the 1990s at the Mackinac Center, which was a conservative think tank in Michigan. And he just wanted to have a way to explain to donors what a point of view would look like at a think tank. And he created a brochure that had this slide, like a slide rule, if you will. And it had an opening and it was a way to explain to donors the range of possibilities of public policy, especially concerning a single issue. And the Mackinac Center was really interested in teaching people about the freedom in education. And it might run from the idea of zero public investment all the way to compulsory indoctrination in government schools. Who would think we’d ever have that? But it gave you that range. And when Overton started to talk about this, he would move his slider to different policies that fell within the window of political possibility. So the Overton window really is a description. It’s not a tactic. And so when we talked talk about the ideas that are coming to the forefront. And there’s so many of them. We talked a little bit about what’s in the news. It really takes courage to talk about ideas in a way that public policy over time has to do with cultural change. It has to do with lots of work. And you might be the only one talking about it. And it takes real intrepidity to be able to do that. And I think it’s important that There is that one person, because when there’s one person, there’s usually people who are sitting on the sidelines, afraid. But when one person has a voice, it sets the tone for others to stand up and say, yeah, I agree with that.

I thought I was going to. And Carol Baker and I, I think we got our wires crossed. And so, unfortunately, I know she loves to come in and I love her perspective. But that happens sometimes. And this morning was one of those times.

Well, darn that Carol. She’s not here, so we’ll blame her. You know, I guess I’m expected to talk about politics. I guess I’m one of the token candidates in Liberty Toastmasters. But I think it’s important to point out, you know, especially we have listeners who are not necessarily politically active or involved. You know, they might be politically interested. But it’s really important. It’s really vital. It’s really valuable. that we all exert our influence. We all have the courage to exert our influence in our regular daily lives outside of this world of politics. So whether that’s in your job, if you can come up with an idea for your employer to make more money, that’s a way that you can bring your influence forward. If you see something that is, let’s say, unsafe on a manufacturing floor, that is a really valuable way you can bring your influence forward. within your family, right? Is your daughter perhaps saying, well, you know, so-and-so, you know, little Susie next door, you know, she gets to do this. Why can’t I? You know, you as a loving parent have the right and should have the courage to be strong and raise your family the way that you want. I could say the same for, you know, churches or for civic organizations. But I will bring it to politics here a little bit. I read something recently that really resonated. Listeners, I found this on Town Hall. Apparently it came from Senator Forbes. I read this a couple of days ago. Rob Flaherty was Kamala Harris’s digital director and did an interview. And he said a few things that I thought were really interesting. They definitely resonated with me. And let me set the context a little bit here. Two years ago when I first ran for Congress, I saw some great candidates across Colorado who had very competitive races, and yet they struggled to kind of rise above the national politics and that national tenor. And some of these legislative districts might be, let’s say, a $120,000 race. And yet, you know, it’s all the energy in the room is being sucked up. But it was, at that time, it was Donald Trump. It was the leak of the Dobbs petition coming out. And I thought, my gosh, you know, what a challenge it is for candidates to be able to rise above that. Anyway, coming back to what Rob Flaherty said, he said that campaigns, in many ways, are last-mile marketers. I mean, if you think about what a last mile is of infrastructure… You know, if they build an interstate, you know, I-25 or I-70, that doesn’t go to your house. The last mile is what goes to your house. Or, you know, if you think about when we used to actually have telephone lines that would come to our homes, that last mile reaching the consumers, reaching the voters individually, that’s the last mile. Campaigns in many ways are the last mile marketers that exist in a terrain that is set by culture. So this is where I want to bring it back to influence. We have to be able to influence the culture and ultimately it’s the candidates that are then responsible for reaching out to the voters. Now, we’re going to have Colorado Republican elections coming up in just a few months. And I would invite people who are going to be voters there to ask yourselves, has the party as it exists, has it been helping to influence culture? Has it been helping to give voters you know, the campaigns and the candidates, the things that they need to go out and win the races, or it hasn’t been actively working against a lot of our great candidates. So, you know, that’s coming up, and I’ll wrap it up with this. You know, Winston Churchill said that politics are almost as exciting as war and quite as dangerous. He said, in war, you can only be killed once, but in politics, many times.

So, yeah, we don’t all have to be politicians. We don’t all have to be knee deep in that fight, neck deep in that fight, I guess. There are so many opportunities to have the courage to influence in your daily lives. And we’ll make the world a better place that way. And leave the politics to the politicians.

I think the courage to influence is one of the reasons I got involved with Liberty Toastmasters. And the reason I did that was to learn to have the courage to get out in front and speak to people. And when you learn that and you go through the process, I encourage all your listeners, come to our Liberty Toastmasters meeting. Come see what we’re about. Come see about how important it is to communicate to people from different ethnicities and how you can make an influence in your society. I’m an active speaker here at the City of Longmont when you go to the City of Longmont meetings. And now I’ve developed a relationship with the people here in the City of Longmont who run the city. And I’d also encourage people to go to their local city meetings hear what their local politicians say and get a good understanding and basis on how the actual political system works. Because what the press says and when you go to these meetings, what they say are two different things. And you get to understand how important communication is and correct communication is. If you go to those meetings, meet those people, meet your local politicians, get involved in some of those races, and you can make a difference. It doesn’t happen overnight, but the fact that you have to have self-confidence and good communication skills are critical. And that’s the good thing about Liberty Toastmasters. You learn all that going through that process. You get to get up there and speak in front of people. You have to prepare your speech.

Thank you so much for having me on. And good morning, everybody. And my thoughts, there’s two things. First of all, Toastmasters and Liberty Toastmasters is great. It gives you the experience and the techniques to make a difference. And the second thing I’d like to share with you is something I’ve kind of learned over the years that can help you make a positive difference. And that is looking for areas of injustice. And one area of injustice that has come up in the past four years is the assault on our small businesses. And it’s really sad. It started with these COVID lockdowns. If you remember with those lockdowns, they basically told almost all the small businesses that they had to shut their doors. At the same time, big businesses like Walmart, Kroger, and so on were allowed to keep their doors wide open, and that made the big businesses even more crowded, and it spread COVID faster and made the virus worse doing that. And then on top of that, 38.9% of small businesses in Colorado went out of business. Talk about a terrible policy. It makes the virus worse. Almost 40% of the small businesses went out of business. It was completely terrible, and it’s still happening. The latest assault on the small businesses is what’s called the Corporate Transparency Act, and it’s forcing small businesses to do this weird reporting with the federal government of a whole bunch of sensitive information, and it’s supposedly to help stop crime, but the stupid thing about it If the criminals are going to put bogus information on there or they’re not going to fill it out, it’s not going to work. So basically it’s punishing small businesses for something that’s not going to work. So it’s good to look for areas of injustice because that can get almost everybody interested in your topic. And Toastmasters can also help a lot. And right now we have a big opportunity because we have a new Congress. And it’s a good time to be telling them very important things that they should be looking at. in our society. So, yeah, thank you so much.

Well, and you nailed it there, Ross, regarding the CTA. And I was talking with somebody about it just last week. She texted me that there’s an injunction that’s been filed on that, which is a good thing because, as you say, it is so overreaching and it’s just really wrong. So thank you, Ross. She’s going to call in, I think, in just a minute, so that’s good.

You know, it’s funny. You bring this up, this subject up, and it was the theme of our last Toastmaster meeting in Longmont last Saturday. And I happened to have been Toastmaster. And I gave a series of little vignettes on the courage to influence. And I focused on the word courage because it is one of the values of character, as I call them, as opposed to, you know, the material values that we all strive to attain and exercise. But it’s the values of character that influence the rest of us. When one of us steps forward and displays honorable and virtuous values of character, it gets our attention. And it does so because of another one of my tenets that some of my fellow Toastmasters will remember when I mention it, and that is this. If a picture is worth 1,000 words, as it is often said, an example is worth 10,000. someone demonstrating a profound virtue and doing so dramatically, it sticks with you. You remember it, and it impresses you as little else can. Further, you know, one of the toastmasters in that meeting last week, his speech was about his personal journey with religion. And he stood up in front of the group and gave this superb speech where he described his journey through his mid-years to where he is now. And he did so calmly, matter-of-factly, without any value judgments one way or the other. And the end result was on a subject that it takes courage to talk about because of what it potentially engenders, religion. And so to me, and I applauded him for it because I thought it was an outstanding demonstration of the courage that it takes to try to influence people. And he shared that with us in that speech, and it was pretty effective. I don’t know how much time I have left, Kim, but… You’ve got some time. You know, we’re witnessing right now in the Congress or in the federal government as well an opportunity for our leadership to display courage. And it would be courage that would influence us like nothing else. I’ll give you a brief illustration. If, for example… President Trump, President-elect Trump, would stand up in front of a press conference with the House leader beside him, J.D. Vance, perhaps McConnell or anyone else that wanted to take the stage with him and simply say, it has become obvious and ought to have become obvious to all of us that in order to get a change to this obscene process we use to finance the government here, we are going to have to, we are going to be forced to shut down the government because the Democrats want to continue to spend money we don’t have, and frankly, some of our Republican allies do too. So we are going to stand up and announce that it is our intention in the absence of sound financial budgeting to shut down this government until we get it. That would send shockwaves through the country like nothing else, because they would be standing up and naming the unmentionable. And standing up and saying we are going to do this if we cannot get responsible governance any other way. That’s about all I have today. Kim, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas and thank you again for what you do. And I listen intently for what’s coming. Thank you.

We have Carol Van Landingham and Carol Baker. You’re in studio. How did you make it here? It was where I was supposed to be. Okay, great to have you here. Carol VanLandingham, your comments on the courage to influence.

Hi, Kim. Thank you so much for having us this morning. So I’ve been reading a book called The Go-Giver, and I wanted to give you a little bit of a perspective from that. So what does it truly mean to influence people? Many people think that it’s about power or persuasion or even status. But as a go-giver teaches us, influence doesn’t come from what you take. It comes from what you give. Let me share a story in the book. So Joe, who’s the main character, is an ambitious go-getter. And he’s mentored by a guy named Pindor, who reveals five laws of stratospheric success. One of the laws is the law of influence. And that states that your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first. So think about that for a moment, placing other people’s interests first. Isn’t that counterintuitive in the world? It celebrates individual achievement. It takes courage to step away from self-focus and to say, how can I serve? This principle isn’t just theoretical. It’s life changing. There’s another character in the book, Rachel, and she’s struggling as a florist to have a forest in the story. Instead of obsessing about her competition, she focuses on bringing joy to her customers. She connects deeply, she serves selfishly, and she influences profoundly. She blesses everyone around her, and not because she makes profits, but because she prioritized giving. In my own life, I’ve seen this truth in action. When I stopped focusing on personal gain and I started genuinely helping others, whether in real estate, Toastmasters, or in life, I found something unexpected, a deeper connection, a stronger community, and lasting impact. So I challenge you to ask yourself, how can I courageously influence others by giving today? What small act of generosity can spark a ripple effect of connection and trust. Influence is not about what you demand, it’s about what you give. And when you lead with generosity, you don’t just make a difference, you become the difference.

Do you know I can relate to something I’ve heard from everyone today? Every one of us, though, comes from a little different place in our own personal journeys. Some had something to say. They just needed to know how to present it better to speak publicly. In my case, I came to Toastmasters saying, I already know how to talk. I need to learn how to speak. And, you know, when we can learn how to present our message in a concise way, in a short way, some of us can say, tell our story in 30 minutes. Can you tell it in three? Right. I can relate to any of us having different places in our lives we were at when we came to this. And I have appreciated being able to learn from other people and their journeys, not just from the content of the speeches they make, but to see them develop. And that has been a thrill for me to go watch over two, three, four, five years, some other members as they are developing and what they’ve done with that. And I think that gives us the courage When it comes time, I want to learn how to speak because one of these days I’m going to have a message. And when I have a message and I will have the courage, I want to have the ability to do it.

Many times you’ll only have two to three minutes, and you have to hit that two or three minutes because they’ll shut your mic off. Right. So it is so important. So it’s great to have you here. Thanks for being here. Good to be here in the studio. Thanks. And Liberty Toastmasters Denver meets the first and third Saturdays at the Independence Institute. That’s right. We’re meeting this Saturday. OK. And then Liberty North, the second and fourth Saturdays in Longmont. And my friends, if you’re considering, well, you know what? It’s not just public office. It is. Do you want to be a better communicator? in your job, with your family, with your friends, well, Liberty Toastmasters can help you do that. And I would say most all Liberty Toastmasters that I know are lifelong learners. They realize they have something to learn. True. And so we’d love to have them join us. It’s a noun, and it could be, obviously, the quality or state of being intrepid, fearless, bravery, courage, resoluteness, and courageousness. Such as our intrepid leader. Yeah, well done, well done. And our quote of the day is from Ronald Reagan. And he was our 40th president. He was born in 1911, died in 2004. And he was an important figure in the American conservative movement. And he had been a Democrat. And then he was president of the Screen Actors Guild. And through all that experience, he became a Republican. And when asked why he left the Democrat Party, he said, I didn’t leave the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party left me. And that was then. Now, when we look at the radical activist extremists that are in control of the Democrat Party, I think that people that just vote party line, whether or not it’s Republican or Democrat, you really have to understand, particularly Democrat, this is not the Democrat Party of your grandpa and your grandma. It’s something totally different. It is. It’s it’s socialism itself. headed towards communism right now. And so that’s why we need to reclaim our government here.
SPEAKER 27 :
True. I hear young people talk about socially they’re conservative or liberal and then fiscally they’re conservative or liberal. And I thought, that means you’re giving it some thought at all. Thank you.
SPEAKER 20 :
That’s a good point. That is a very good point on that. And so Ronald Reagan said this, a nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation. And I chose that particular quote because our featured guest this second hour is Chris Harris. It’s very timely. He is a retired Border Patrol agent from the San Diego sector. And so I thought, Ronald Reagan said all of that so long ago. And have you seen the Reagan movie yet? No, I have not, and I would love to. So over Thanksgiving, because I don’t really have time to watch many movies. I decided many listeners had said, OK, Kim, you need to watch this movie. So I rented it and I ended up renting it three times. I should have just bought it because there was so much in there and so much that’s relevant to today. And he was intrepid as he stood up against communism. He understood that that was such a threat to America. And we are at that doorstep again, Carol Baker.

There are some things, once you see it, you see it. And that’s something about him is that once he knew he had to take that stand, he did.
SPEAKER 20 :
He did. He had to take action. And we have on the line with us Karen Levine. It’s her weekly update. You know her. She is an award-winning RE-MAX realtor. And Karen Levine, welcome. Good morning. Good morning. And we had Lauren Levy, everything mortgages on in the first hour. And the Fed reduced interest rates yesterday. The stock market didn’t like it. We had tumbled a bit. But I was thinking about… The bond market did? Yeah, I was thinking about you. Is that this is a time where creativity and innovation in buying or selling your home is so important. And that is why working with… you, who has all this experience, is so worth it. Because when interest rates are, they’re still stubbornly high, I would say, even with this interest rate cut. And so that’s where creativity and innovation needs to step in, in this real estate market, Karen.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, I would agree with that. And if we look at the history of interest rates, they’re still not… It’s incredibly high for recent history, but the history of my career when I bought my home, interest rates were 12% and 13%. And I did an adjustable rate mortgage at 7.5%, which I thought was amazing. And so that was creativity in the midst of a bit of chaos and uncertainty. And maybe we’re in that state today, but one of my – Real estate trainers does a piece called Bold Predictions, and he feels like interest rates are going to hover around six in 2025, probably six and five-eighths, down to five and five-eighths, but up and down, and that we’ll see those movements on a more regular basis, like daily potentially, and I remember those days. And we still were able to help people buy and sell homes because… People’s lives continue despite interest rates. People get married and have babies and people age out of their homes and need a smaller place or need to move into assisted care and life continues and I’m here to help them as they transition from one chapter of life to the next to get them into housing that is desirable for them, that meets their needs and that brings them joy and builds them prosperity.
SPEAKER 20 :
I love all that. And you’ve been helping people for many years. And you can help people with obviously selling their home or buying their home or a new build. It’s also important to have Karen Levine on your side of the table if you’re looking at a new build. And I am seeing some different little developments. So it looks like there may be some housing stock that’s new coming onto the market, yes? Yes.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, builders have been more consistently active in the marketplace over the past couple years. They know we have an inventory shortage, but they also are a little leery to put too much product out in the market too fast because they were harmed pretty significantly in the Great Recession. But cities… You know, are getting, I hate to say it, getting building permits through that some builders started, oh, a year and a half, 18 months, two years ago. And that’s where we go back to the conversation of minimizing policy, stripping away a lot of the restrictions, which increases the cost of things, but also the time of getting things built.

He is a… He’s a retired Border Patrol agent out of the San Diego sector and really has an understanding of all that is happening here. And I wanted to talk with him, first of all, about Trump’s deportation. So, Chris Harris, welcome to the show.

Thank you, Kim, again. As always, thanks for having me on. And I just want to say I went to Toastmasters through my agency very, very many times to train them.
SPEAKER 20 :
Well, I think it’s evident. And don’t you find it? I really like the speaking component, Chris, but I also have learned so much from the evaluation component. And that is so interacting with family and colleagues. And when I was on city council, I thought that was invaluable as well. Your thoughts?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, and I still have all my little blue ribbons. I thought the evaluations were really good. The agency did it, the Border Patrol. They knew I was doing speaking engagements that was pro-Border Patrol and for the union, and they supported me. I found the evaluations very important. I liked when they threw things at you to speak on something just out of the blue and having to go for like a minute on something that you knew nothing about and just basically work your way through it. And I found that was really helpful for me. When I do speaking engagements, Sometimes you forget things, and you’ll see people stall and trying to think, and I just move on to something else. You had no idea what I was going to say anyway, so I’ll just throw something out there. I can move on. Moving on.
SPEAKER 20 :
I love that. And, Chris, I have all my blue ribbons, too. And I think it’s because we’re so competitive that if you do win, and these are not participation ribbons. These are for doing something excellent. Your colleagues vote on that. So I have my ribbons as well.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, so I appreciate having you on. I wanted to put that little plug in for Toastmasters. It’s well worthwhile. I have nothing, no vested interest. Getting down to the brass tacks now, you wanted to talk about the broken border and deportations where we might go under the incoming, the former president and incoming president, Donald Trump. I have a lot of thoughts on that.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay, let’s just fasten our seatbelts. What do you have to say?
SPEAKER 11 :
So first you have to have a little context. I see DHS, Department of Homeland Security, says they estimate there’s 11 million illegal aliens in this country. And I do use that term. No person is illegal, but their status is illegal. It’s actually in the law. So I use the term illegal alien. It doesn’t demean anybody. But that’s just so incredibly wrong and disingenuous by THS. That number, 11 million, comes from a Pew Research poll done over 10 years ago, and I have it. that said over 10 years ago that there’s 11 million in the country illegally. Well, over the last four years, we know the figures show that over 10 million have entered. Border Patrol has its own metrics. I’m going to tell you that before the last four years, we thought there was probably about 20 some to 30 million in this country illegally, either violating the law itself or violating civil code, meaning they came under visa and overstayed. So right now, I’m going to tell you there was probably closer to 40 million people in this country illegally. There is no way you can deport all that. It’s not going to happen. Trump does use hyperbole when he speaks. I don’t always agree with it, but that’s how he is. It could be a little bombastic. I don’t like the guy personally, but I supported him and voted for him because I truly think what he did on the border his first time was the best we’ve ever seen it, and he’s going to get us back to it because under this current administration, this is the worst it’s ever been. And I know that after 20-some years working on the border as a Border Patrol agent and as a Border Patrol union official. So you’re not going to get 40 million people deported. It’s physically impossible. Whether you want to do it or not, it’s impossible. We’re not going to go after people. They’re not going to go after people who have been here 30 years, 40 years. They’re working hard. They’re keeping their nose clean. They’re not going to get arrested. Now, there’s one caveat for that, and I’ll get into that later, which is called collateral damage or collateral arrest. And we used to use that term, and Tom Holman used it recently. So I’ll get into that later. But we’re not going to go after that one who’s working hard. My wife’s parents probably came here illegally, rest their souls. They worked their asses off. They wouldn’t have been deported. What they’re going to go after and what they should and what everybody should support them. I mean, as a union official back up to 2016, I would meet with Democratic senators and Congress people who would say, yeah, Chris, we’ll support removing convicted criminal aliens that came here illegally and committed crimes. I don’t understand how that flip-flop to people want to defend them and not deport them. So what they’re gonna do is go after criminal aliens. And these are people that have been convicted of crimes and have done their sentencing. And we wanna remove them now. And in addition to criminal aliens, we’re gonna go after national security risks. And there’s a lot of them. And if you like, we have time, we can get into that, some firsthand experiences at military bases when I was a border patrol agent.
SPEAKER 20 :
But for this criminal alien- Yeah, just give us an example or two of that.
SPEAKER 11 :
So one of the things the Border Patrol did when I was working at my station, Imperial Beach Border Patrol Station, San Diego sector, was we had agents tasked to do certain things with the police department when they were still able to work with us, and also military bases. And we have several large military bases out here. One of them, including Naval Air Station North Island, which is on Coronado, is home port to three of our CBNs, our nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. That’s a huge chunk of our aircraft carrier fleet. So it’s a primary base. It’s one of the largest bases for the United States, certainly for the naval bases. So whenever foreign nationals try to access the base, the gate guards, which would be the Department of Defense, police, or military personnel working with MPs or security police or whatnot, would stop them. And if they identified them as being foreign nationals, we were contacted. So I would go out several times I went out. And I’ll give you one specific example where we’re talking about national security threats. We get there, and they have a vehicle pulled to the side. I get there. There’s a vehicle pulled to the side of the road near the gate, and there’s five women in it. They’re all Chinese nationals. Now, the driver and the passenger were both giggling 20-something-year-olds, and they’re pointing and looking around and laughing, and they’re trying to say in broken English they got lost. And there’s two young women in the back by the windows in their passenger seat in the back, and they’re laughing and giggling. Well, because of this, There’s certain countries, and I want to get too much details because it’s sensitive. But certain countries, we’re going to have a little bit added response besides border patrol. So NCIS will send a special agent out. So the NCIS special agent comes out. He’s got his biometric devices. We’re talking. Now, there’s one woman in the back seat in the middle, and she’s probably late 40s, early 50s. And she is stone-faced, but she’s just quietly watching everything. And we look at each other, the special agent and I, and at the same time, we said she’s Chinese intelligence. We knew that. Another instance, we had four Saudi nationals try to get on the base. It’s happening more and more. They’re probing our bases. We know that they’re doing this. They’re not all taking wrong turns and passing all the signs. They’re trying to access the base, see if they can get in, see what the security protocols are. So that’s one level of national security threats. Where we used to have a few hundred Chinese coming in a year, we’ve had tens of thousands. They just arrested a guy out in the West Coast. FLYING DRONES NEAR ONE OF OUR AIR FORCE, VANDERBURG, I BELIEVE, CRUCIAL SECURITY BASE. THEY DO TESTING THERE. HE WAS FLYING DRONES OVER THE BASE. THEY DID ACTUALLY CATCH HIM. THEY CAUGHT HIM GETTING, ABOUT TO GET ON A PLANE TO FLY BACK TO CHINA. SO THIS IS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT IS ACTUAL REAL VERIFIABLE NATIONAL SECURITY THREATS. I’M NOT EVEN GOING TO GET INTO POSSIBLE SLEEPER CELLS AND THINGS LIKE THAT THAT CAN BE ACTIVATED IF WE GO TO WAR WITH CHINA OR TAIWAN OR THINGS HEED UP WITH RUSSIA, INCLUDING IRAN, NORTH KOREA. We know they exist. So that’s in addition to the criminal aliens. And they’re going to go for the worst that they can first. They’re going to go for the gangbangers. They’re going to go for the cartel. Hopefully they’ll get down to even low-level criminals because I don’t want any criminals here. And I’ve had people in the past tell me, well, Chris, you know, we have a lot of American criminals. And my response is, yes, we grow enough. We don’t have to import more. You think? And if I could deport those Americans, like the British did and sent them all to Australia, I would do that. But legally, we can’t deport U.S. citizens. And anybody who tells you on the radio or in the news or the media we’re going to deport U.S. citizens is lying. Legally, you cannot. Now, if we’re deporting a father and the mother is illegal and the mother is a U.S. citizen that gives U.S. citizens and they choose to go with him, God bless. That’s their choice. But we can’t force them to go. And that’s something that is the media being disingenuous at best. So we’re going to deport criminal aliens and gangbangers. I’m going to give you an example, and I always try to use it because you’re out there. So Aurora, we have interesting things happening in Aurora again. Now, to their shame, I understand, Aurora, you sit in the glow of Denver, the shadow of Denver. Your mayor’s Republican. You’re chief of police. WHEN THINGS FIRST BROKE THERE WITH TRENDA ARAGUA, TDA, WHICH IS A VERY VIOLENT VENEZUELAN GAME, ACTIVE IN MORE THAN 17 STATES NOW, INVOLVED IN SOME HIGH-PROFILE MURDERS THAT WE KNOW ABOUT THEM. IT’S IN THE NEWS THAT THE NURSE DOWN IN GEORGIA AND ALL THAT, THEY TOOK OVER SOME APARTMENT COMPLEXES. ONE OF THEM WAS THE EDGE OF LOWERY AND ANOTHER ONE. I ACTUALLY READ A REPORT ABOUT IT. WE TALKED ABOUT THIS THE LAST TIME I WAS ON. So your governor, Polis, who’s a Democrat, the mayor of Denver, Mike Johnson, a Democrat, said it’s not happening. It’s not true. And then, unfortunately, your mayor and police chief kind of kowtowed to them and said, well, it’s not really happening. Well, it was. There was video that was released. And recently you had a home or apartment invasion in that edge of Lowry in Aurora. They grabbed a couple of men and women who were migrants, probably here illegally also, and they prey on each other. They took them to another apartment, beat them, or tied them up, beat them, tortured them. There were pretty credible reports that they pulled the fingernails off the woman. Your own chief of police has said he considers it torture, what was done to them. He said he used the word torture. They were released by these gangbangers, the TDA. And people are trying to walk around saying they’re TDA. ISIS just said that, come out, said, yes, we believe they’re TDA. They’re certainly Venezuelan illegals. So they arrested, the number’s now up to 14. I’m hearing that maybe even 16 have been arrested. Tom Holman has spoken about it, and he called out your chief of police, who seems to be trying to do the best he can, and said, contact us. We’ll get rid of them after you charge them.
SPEAKER 20 :
And in chief of police, you’re talking about Aurora, right?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes. Todd Chamberlain. Yes, Chief Chamberlain. He has been mostly transparent on this one. He doesn’t use the term Trender Agua. I think he specifically does not want to use that term. But he does say, you know, gang. But now ICE is saying they believe that’s being TDA and certainly that they’re illegal Venezuelan immigrants that committed this crime. So they arrested 14 of them.
SPEAKER 20 :
OK, it’s just a comment because I did serve on city council and I learned this is your police chiefs are it’s more political regarding police chiefs because they are hired by city council and the mayor. So they they’re kind of watch walking a political tightrope. because if they say the wrong thing, they could get fired by the city council and the mayor. Your sheriff’s people, and I would say they have more freedom as they uphold the law, that they’re not constrained so much by politics. And Chris, you’re in that field. Would that be a correct assessment?
SPEAKER 11 :
I was going to mention that. You nailed it on the head. It’s exactly right. So I’ll give you a perfect example. Several years ago, my partner and I were representing the Border Patrol for a funeral for a fallen police officer. You know, we wear our dress uniforms, clean up our vehicle and go. And we met the sheriff up there. I want to say Orange County, but I forget exactly. And he stopped with us. There was a traffic jam. He was actually helping us get through it with his little motorcade. trying to get to where there was a staging area for the police vehicles. You’ve seen those mile-long processions. And he got out of his vehicle while they were clearing the way, and he had some pictures taken with us, and he was very pro-Border Patrol, very pro-securing the border. He said because that’s less crime for him if the border’s secure. Well, he’s now been voted in as the—selected for the chief of police for LAPD. Total 180. He’s not going to work with Border Patrol or ICE. He’s going to help defend illegals. Because he’s got to say that. I mean, I’d say that. Do you really want to sell your soul for that job? And I’m disappointed in him if he hears this, that you were pretty high up. You were a sheriff. Do you really feel the need to sell your soul to be chief of police of LAPD? Apparently he does. So he’s done 180 because they can fire him. And we’ve seen that in liberal cities where the police chiefs, will throw their own rank and file under the bus because they know that’s their political survival. So you hit it on the head 180, you know, 100%. I don’t know what your sheriff is like there because he could be very liberal too because if the voting constituency is very liberal, that’s, you know, they’re going to vote somebody in who’s liberal. But you do have a lot more leeway as a sheriff. Actually, you are the lead law enforcement officer in a county by statute. So I don’t know how your sheriff is in Denver or Denver County or whatever, but the chief of police in Denver is certainly going to be very liberal. And even though your mayor in Aurora is Republican, I think he’s getting a lot of pressure from Denver and from the governor. And so that’s going to trickle down onto your chief of police, who, again, has been fairly transparent on this, but he refuses to use the words, you know, trendy Aragua, even though ICE is now saying, yes, we believe that they’re trendy Aragua. You know, it’s not hard to decide that when you know that they’re Venezuelan illegals. So that’s happening in Aurora. We have a family member that’s stationed out there in one of the military branches there. We’ve talked about this before. So if you don’t mind, I’d like to always bring up your stuff locally. But if you want to talk more about the deportations or anything you want to talk about, we can go there.

And Carol mentioned to me during break, it’s so interesting. to get your perspective outside of this Denver Aurora metro area, so nationally looking in. And it was very brave, I think. She was very intrepid, I will use the word of the day. Danielle Jurinsky, city councilwoman in Aurora, who felt from a human standpoint she needed to shed light on what was happening with these apartment buildings that were being overrun and just the sheer… terror of the people that were living there. And that was quite a move on her part, Chris Harris.
SPEAKER 11 :
You know what? Just before you preempted me on that, and kudos, I was going to mention her for a shout-out, that she seemed to have had her constituents came to her, said they were reporting this to various government organizations, including the governor’s office, and they were just being ignored or told it’s not happening. This administration… You know, on down seems to be really big on gaslighting the American public. This inflation now, what you’re paying, you’re not really paying that. This crime you’re seeing on the street, the homeless, you’re not really seeing that. And so she spoke out about it. I want to use that to segue to your Denver mayor and then use that to segue back to deportations. Denver Mayor Mike Johnson. So it’s okay if mayors of cities or county government or state government, if they don’t want to assist Border Patrol ICE, they don’t have to. Legally, they don’t have to. They don’t have to be immigration officers. They don’t have to assist. I think it’s foolish, but that’s fine. But he’s actually going off the rails and is saying that he’s going to have Denver PD resist actively resist ICE. So what is that going to look like? So ICE is going to show up and Denver PD is going to be ordered to arrest them, shoot them. That’s criminal. And if he orders others to do it, and Tom Holman says he wants to be arrested, I’ll help be arrested. If he orders others to do it, then he falls under RICO for influencing and all that. And bad things can happen. You might think that he’s not touchable, but if he wants to go down that route, He will be arrested if they have to bring in deputy U.S. marshals and ICE officers and Border Patrol officers and National Park Service officers and whoever else they want to bring in U.S. government down. They will get him, and they will bring him to a U.S. attorney’s office that will prosecute him. And so that’s off the rails. Most people on the left are saying, well, we’re just not going to assist, pass the resistance. We just won’t help it. He said, we’re going to actively resist. I’m going to order Denver PD to resist them. That’s crazy. That is so off the deep end that I’m going to use law enforcement officers against law enforcement officers. So I know Denver is very liberal now, but you might want to think twice about this guy if you live in that area. He’s already voted to cut your fire department and your police department. You guys seem okay with that, to give money to illegal aliens. But he’s now saying he’s going to use your police department, not to fight crime, but to fight lawful orders from the federal government. And I’m not for federal overreach, but the courts have ruled that we have the right, the federal government has the right to enforce immigration laws. And if you don’t want to help out, that’s okay. but you can’t actively resist. To me, that’s insane.
SPEAKER 20 :
It is crazyville out here, I think, what you’re talking about, Chris Harris. And he said that, then he walked this back, I think, regarding the police department actively preventing ICE from coming in and these federal agents. But then what he said is, he said, we’re going to have citizens that are going to be at the border. 50,000 women. Yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
Fifty thousand of these Heights women or whatever, Highland women, whatever that means. I don’t live out there, so I don’t know what the Highlands are. But he said he’d have fifty thousand of them. OK, then they’ll get arrested, too. And not all fifty thousand, but they’ll start arresting the ringleaders. It just it’s insane. Look, even the mayor of New York City is fed up and he’s met with Tom Holman. And that’s going to let me segue into the deportations again. And the thing that I mentioned, which is collateral arrest or collateral, we used to call it collateral damage. So what that means is we have a target for somebody. We might have a warrant or an administrative order that somebody’s here illegally that we want. And usually they’re a criminal. And quite often we’re getting them on something illegal, immigration, when, yeah, they’re a drug dealer, but it’s just going to be real difficult for us to prove that. So we’re just going to target them as being here illegally and so on and so forth. So we go for them. But if there’s people that interfere or get involved or are in the apartment with them or the house with them, they’re going to be all sitting on the ground in handcuffs while they figure out who’s who. And if it turns out you’re illegal, well, then you’re going to go if we want you to go. So we were ordered for quite a while under Obama to avoid all collateral damage, all collateral arrests. No matter if you went to an apartment house with a warrant and you got a guy, a drug dealer, and you’re arresting him for that and for it being illegal. Everybody in that apartment, even if they’re all legal, you didn’t take them. Okay, I don’t like it, but that’s fine. What Tom Holman has said, okay, you don’t want us to be in your prisons or jails. Like Rikers Island, that’s New York City’s corrections jail system, they used to have an ICE office there. So before a guy was released, they checked his status, and if he was wanted by ICE on the detainer, they took him right then and there. Well, under the previous de Blasio, they closed it down. And New York State has sanctuary laws now, as California does. So the sheriffs and the police department, they cannot notify ICE when they’re going to release a convicted criminal, where they could be waiting for him. They just hand him over, and it’s safe. The guy is coming out of jail, so he’s not armed. They used to arrest people in courts. Again, it’s safe. The guy’s going through a metal detector. He appeared in court. ICE would be notified, and they would hook him up. So what these sanctuary states and cities are doing is saying, we’re not going to assist. What Tom Holman has said, and I’ve met Tom, and he’s a former Border Patrol agent, a lot of respect for that, of course. He said, well, we’re going to have to go in your neighborhood, and we’ll have to get warrants to go to your houses and apartments, and there will be a lot of collateral arrests. So if I was an illegal immigrant, an illegal alien living in this country, and I’m keeping my nose clean, I would rather you go and get these bad guys at the jails, at the prison, at the courthouses. then come into my neighborhood. Or I don’t know, hey, this is my cousin and she’s picking me up and she’s got a guy in the car. I don’t know, but she’s giving me a ride. I’m Joe, you know, illegal, but I’m obeying the law. I’ve been here for 20 years. And they take the car down and I’m in the car and they’re checking us all, running us all. Oops, it comes out I’m illegal. And now I’m going too. I’d rather you didn’t do that. So if I was here illegally and I’ve been here for a while and I’m obeying the laws, I would tell my people that are supposedly representing me, the ones that want to use the term Latinx, which my wife, who’s from Mexico, laughs about. I would tell those people, stop representing me because you’re not doing a good job. I don’t want them coming into my neighborhoods. I don’t want them arresting these guys on the street where I might be walking next to him and I get held and detained and, oops, turns out I’m illegal. They come to my friend’s apartment because they’re looking for someone, they have a warrant, and I happen to be there. Oops, I’m going now. You know, just go get those bad guys at the prisons, the jails, and the courthouses. So Tom Herman’s very clear. You want to play that game. there’s going to be a lot of collateral arrests. So that is the caveat I mentioned earlier, where if you’re here, you’re illegal, and you’re minding your own business, minding your P’s and Q’s, you’re going to be safe, again, unless you’re part of collateral arrests. So you want to play that game in sanctuary cities and states, then they will start taking people down around you, running our system checks, and if it comes back derogatory, you’re here illegally, you’re going to.

And that is Chris Harris. He is a retired Border Patrol agent out of the San Diego sector. Carol Baker is in studio with me. She is the president of Liberty Toastmasters Denver. And, Chris, this came in from one of our listeners. She said this— Good morning, Kim. Listening to your guests talking about the border, it is unacceptable to only deport people who are committing crimes that have broken into our country over the last several years. People who have broken into our country illegally must be deported or we are not going to have a country anymore. All you have to do is divide 40 million figure into our population and that tells you they must go back to their country of origin. Anything less is absolutely unacceptable. We must return as many as humanly possible to reclaim our country and our heritage. We’re supposed to be a melting pot with a balanced number of people coming from all over the world, not just one sector. Very thoughtful response. What would you say to that, Chris?
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, yeah, I agree with her on a lot of levels. I’m not disagreeing with that. And we noticed that there’s about 100, they’re coming from 170 countries. So a couple of things on that. One, it’s just physicality. Is it physically possible to do that? No, we don’t have the resources. We don’t have the manpower, but we just can’t. The second thing is you have to get some of these countries to take their people back. And some are refusing to do so. And I’ll use that as well. They’re emptying their prisons, getting rid of their criminals. They’re people that have mental health issues. So Venezuela refuses to take their deportees back. Trump will deal with them, and I’m sure he’s going to use the carrot and the big stick. So that’s a problem. Some countries won’t take their people back, and we have to figure out how to do that. The other thing, again, is just the physicality. I will say that in addition to criminal aliens and national security risks and threats, We probably will do something where the last in are going to be the first to go, because that has the most impact and deterrence. And so they’re coming from 170 countries. It’s not just Central America. 170 countries around the world, people are coming here claiming asylum. And you can’t see me doing finger quotes, but that’s what I’m doing. And asylum was, they were told by this administration that they’re coming here legally. So that’s a little problematic. And we’re going to have to do the, go back to the remain in Mexico, technically with the migrant protection protocols that Trump had, that Biden undid on his first day with an executive order. Again, we can go after the first, the last in, and the first should be the first out. Because again, the best determined value, if you’re down in say Guatemala, and you have a friend or a relative that just flipped into the United States or claimed asylum was let in, and the next week you see them back already after paying $10,000 to a coyote, to a smuggling organization, that has a lot of deterrent value. So they’re going to do that. There are going to be people who have been here for 40 years illegally, and that we’re going to have to ask them. discussions way down the road because we’re never going to get to them anytime soon because again let’s use that number 40 million let’s use 35 million um you just you can’t if we get one million out in the next four years i’ll be both thrilled so in a perfect world yes we can remove almost everybody that’s here illegally and shouldn’t be here um and i you know a lot of people are here because of these overstays and that was a blue ribbon panel at the 9 11 BIPARTISAN, LOOKED INTO IT, AND THESE GUYS THAT COMMITTED THE CRIME WERE VISA OVERSTAYS. THEY DIDN’T JUMP THE FENCE. THEY CAME HERE ON A VISA, AND THEY CAME HERE FRAUDULENTLY OR THEY OVERSTAYED THEIR VISA. THAT ACTUALLY BOTHERS ME MORE THAN SOMEBODY JUMPING THE FENCE. SOMEBODY JUMPING THE FENCE, THERE’S ACTUALLY LIKE AN HONESTY, YES, I’M TRASHPASSING, I’M BREAKING INTO YOUR COUNTRY. SOMEBODY THAT COMES HERE ON A VISA, THEY SIGN ALL THE PAPERWORK SAYING, I’M GOING TO ABIDE BY THAT. SO THAT’S LIKE YOU LET A GUEST IN YOUR HOUSE AND HE WON’T LEAVE. BUT IT’S ONLY A CIVIL OFFENSE. SO CONGRESS NEEDS to make it easier to deter them and remove them. I agree with her on an esoteric higher level, but realistically, it’s not physically impossible. Whether you want to do it or not, there’s not enough ICE agents, there’s not enough Border Patrol agents, there’s not enough detention officers, there’s not enough detention space, there’s not enough immigration judges, there’s not enough assisting U.S. attorneys. We need more assisting U.S. attorneys to prosecute these cases, the actual criminal-criminal immigration cases, which would be AUSC 1324 smuggling, AUSC 1326 reentry after deport, all felonies. They’re not prosecuted because there’s not enough assisting U.S. attorneys. So I might wish that we can get rid of most of them. That’s not going to happen, whether you want to or not. Physicality, the laws of physics, whatever you want to call it, will not allow it to happen.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay. Okay. We’ve got a lot lined up here. So, Carol, let’s get to you, and then we’ll get to Ron on the line.

Do you know, I think between what the texter said and what he said, Kim, I believe I heard important and urgent. So it doesn’t mean something that important isn’t important. Maybe the other is just more urgent. Okay. Once we take care of that, we can get to the important.
SPEAKER 20 :
Good point. Good point, Carol Baker. Ron is on the line. Ron, what is on your radar?
SPEAKER 07 :
Great show and very informative. Thank you. I was just – I’ve seen some – there were motion sensors going off in the Canada, Alaskan area that they had – you could see that they’re Muslim people. coming over the border, and I was just wondering what they’re doing about that, or can do.
SPEAKER 20 :
I hadn’t thought about Canada and Alaska, Chris Harris. I have. Okay, so what do you have to say on that?
SPEAKER 11 :
So the northern border has typically always been undermanned because the south and southwest borders are where most of the action is. It’s worse now because they’ve had to pull people. I have a friend who’s a supervisor up there. He got pulled down. He gets periodically pulled down to the southern border for six weeks or two-month periods of time because we’re so overwhelmed on the southern border. So the northern border is getting worse. The numbers are skyrocketing. Trump has just called out Trudeau on that. If you don’t tighten it up, the illegals coming through that you let into your country and that are coming into our country in defense and all, I’m going to slap a 25% tariff on your goods. Yay. There’s all kinds of people coming across the northern border, but predominantly numbers show that it’s Chinese and Indians. I mean, they’re coming from all over the world. So they fly into Canada, Canada lets them in, and they cross the border. They walk across. It’s basically unguarded in huge areas. So he’s right. And hopefully Trump will use the stick in this case with Canada, with Trudeau, whoever the next prime minister, hopefully, and say, you guys need to do tightening up on your own to help us protect ourselves. And we’ll work with you on that. We need to hire more border relations. We are grossly. understand the number. We’re probably about 2,500 below the statutory minimum. Congress set a minimum by law, and we’re like 2,500 below that. So you need those things. We need more Border Patrol agents. If we can start securing the southwest border, we can stop pulling people off the northern border. So it’s a cycle up. So it’s doable, it’s solvable, but we need to do several things, and I think we’re gonna do that under this administration. But yes, the northern border is a threat to us.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay, couple of minutes. This came in on the text line. Can the Border Patrol deputize citizens to help, and can there be an ICE hotline that citizens can call since our police department, where they live, is doing nothing? Your comments on that, Chris Harris.
SPEAKER 11 :
So yeah, we’re never gonna deputize U.S. citizens to enforce the law for us. We always used to have an ICE hotline. Border Patrol had a hotline. So they might be nonexistent now under this administration. They might have curtailed that. They don’t want people calling in and saying, hey. I used to be a cop before I was a Border Patrol agent. I was a police officer in New York. It’s very discouraging to me to see that police departments that rank and file are being ordered not to assist, either ordered or by law. In California, it’s illegal for them to assist the Border Patrol. So I understand the discouragement there, but… They can go online and see if there’s any lines still in existence. But right now, ICE isn’t really going to do anything. If they can find a number when Trump’s in office, then they might see people respond and try to address these issues.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay. Chris Harris, this has been such great information. We didn’t even get to some of the other things that you and I were going to talk about. Well, there’s only so many minutes in this. We’ll get you back in January. What’s your final thought to the American people, Chris Harris?
SPEAKER 11 :
It’s twofold. So whether you don’t like Trump or not, I don’t like him, but don’t let your, if you hate him, stop from looking, pulling up your big boy pants and using your critical thinking skills and say, this is bad. I mean, people are going crazy about lack of housing and the prices. Well, there’s only finite houses, amount of houses in the U.S. When you add 30 million people to it, that’s going to make it go up because people want houses and housing. So look at what Trump is going to do. And ask yourself, when you hear all these crazy things that, oh, he might do this, he might do that, think about this. He already was president for four years. Did he do that? Did he set up concentration camps? And then also look through his hyperbole and just say, look at what he’s going to do, what he did before, and say, is that the best interest for the United States of America as a constitutional republic? Is it in the best interest for my family’s safety and security and for economics? And ask yourself that and get away from any hatred for him And don’t be scared what the media is telling you that doom and gloom, concentration camps, deporting American citizens, deporting you if your skin color is not lily white, not happening. Rest assured on that and hope for a brand new day of securing our border and protecting the people that live in this country and this country.
