Welcome in on this Thursday. Glad to have you. I’m Joey Hudson sitting in for Mike as he starts his Christmas celebration a little early, which is good for him. I’m happy to be with you, and we’ve got a lot to cover. It’s one of those busy days where it’s just hard to narrow down what we need to talk about. Because there’s so many things happening here these last few days before we go into the Christmas holiday. For example, Congress is now scrambling to come up with a continuing resolution. The massive spending bill, which we’re going to get into quite a bit today, appears to be dead in the form that it was presented yesterday. Just some crazy things ended up in that bill. For example, a raise for members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senators. They had tucked in there a raise. Now, the optics of that alone are just wrong. But don’t you think this is a bad time when Americans are hurting around the country for Congress to be giving themselves a raise? You know, I don’t even know that I feel good about a sitting Congress voting to give themselves a raise anyway. I’ve always thought that they should be able to vote for a raise, but they could not participate in that. It would only be for new members coming after them. I don’t know how you vote yourself a raise. But we’re going to jump into that. We’ll get your feedback on that as well. Which leads me to another question. Where do we go from here? There was a lot of back and forth yesterday. And, you know, folks, it appeared that this spending bill was about to be passed until we started hearing from Elon Musk and then President Donald Trump. These two started speaking out, and that’s when it seemed that the brakes were put on this bill. Now, we don’t know what’s next, but if they make the deadline and avoid a shutdown, they’ve got to come up with something before Friday evening. Which is my final question for you today. And we’re going to dive into this as well. Does it matter if there is a government shutdown? Do you care? Now, some people say, well, this is Christmas. We don’t want to be disrupted in Christmas. How would this disrupt us? Think about this for a minute. A lot of the federal employees who would just be sent home probably have already been home anyway. None of the essential workers in a partial government shutdown, the essential services keep right on going. You’re still going to get your Social Security check. You’re still going to get the services that you need to live. It’s just some of the nonessential employees. And, again, a lot of them are already working from home or say they’re working from home. I question whether they really work or not. But they’d just be given some extra time for Christmas. I don’t think we would even notice it. So for them to be rushing around trying to deal with the Democrats simply because they want to avoid a partial government shutdown going into Christmas, it’s like one member of Congress said yesterday, you know, give us until January the 3rd when we’re sworn in. Just give us another week and a half or so. That’s the crazy thing. They get all worked up trying to, and they set these deadlines, and it has to be done now. It has to be done now. And look, Hakeem Jeffries, the minority leader for the Democrats, pulled a Nancy Pelosi yesterday. Hakeem held a press conference and was telling us all the reasons on why this needed to be done right now. We can’t delay this. And if your government is shut down, it’s the fault of the Republicans. Those bad old Republicans, they’re going to take your money away. Some of the money for disaster relief, for example, he cited. It’ll be taken away. It’s going to be a hardship. Here’s Hakeem Jeffries yesterday as he held a news conference. It was very brief, just basically saying if this happens, it’s the Republicans’ fault.

House Republicans, House Democrats, Senate Republicans, and Senate Democrats reached a bipartisan agreement to fund the government, keep it open, and meet the needs of the American people. We reached a bipartisan agreement to provide disaster assistance to everyday Americans whose lives have been upended and turned upside down. as a result of hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, floods, and other types of extreme weather events. We reached a bipartisan agreement to meet the needs of the American people and provide assistance to farmers, families, children, seniors, veterans, men and women in uniform, and working class Americans. House Republicans have now unilaterally decided to break a bipartisan agreement that they made. House Republicans have been ordered to shut down the government and hurt everyday Americans all across this country. House Republicans will now own any harm that is visited upon the American people that results from a government shutdown or worse. An agreement is an agreement. It was bipartisan and there was nothing more to say.

But it was the wrong agreement. He’s talking about this bipartisan agreement. It was 1,547 pages long. It’s the old Nancy Pelosi tactics. You put a massive bill in front of them, knowing they can’t read it, and expect them to vote for it. It was filled with pork, with waste, a bunch of leftist goodies, some of these last-minute Christmas deals that they wanted. And when Elon Musk quickly read through this, he immediately picked up on some of the things that just aren’t needed. For example, the part of what was in this bill was to a renovation of the RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. That’s not essential. That can wait. Maybe it needs to be done, but it doesn’t have to be done right now. What they need to be focusing on is what money needs to keep the government operating. And forget about all these other things. Yeah. Well, you have agencies like the Pentagon who they haven’t been audited in quite some time. Well, actually, they have been audited, but they haven’t passed an audit in about seven years.

I heard that. They don’t know where some of their billions of dollars are.

Yeah, but you and I can’t do that.

And if we don’t balance our budget at the end of the month, then, you know, can we go knock on the government’s door and say, hey, I need some of that money back I gave you at the end of the year because I can’t pay all my bills.

If they don’t pass a budget, they shouldn’t get paid. Now, they have to October 1st of every year to pass a budget. If they don’t pass it until January 1st, they forfeit their pay between October 1st and January 1st, and they don’t get that money back when they finally do pass a budget. You know, enough is enough with this nonsense. We should not pay them for not doing their job.

Well, not only are we paying them, Wayne, but they want to raise. They want us to pay them more.

I know. I mean, that’s great. That’s absolutely insane. So, you know, their incentive to pass a budget by October 1st should be they don’t get paid and they forfeit any money that they would have earned until they finally do pass a budget. I mean, originally, years ago, budgets had to be by July 1st. And then they were so slow, okay, let’s make it October 1st. Well, they still can’t do it. Well, if you can’t do your job, you shouldn’t be paid. There’s no way in the world we should pay them. And I think Trump, a businessman, would understand that.

Yeah. Well, and, you know, next year when Trump’s in and Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy’s there, they have a little more time to plan on this. You may see that happen, Wayne. Would not surprise me.

We’ve just got to let people in the federal government know that there’s a new sheriff in town, that Donald Trump and his new team. And I love the way Elon Musk kind of led this yesterday. Now, I’m sure there’s some members of Congress scratching their heads right now thinking, is this what it’s going to be like? Is Elon Musk going to be calling us out all the time? But Musk, with his millions of followers on X, he can do that. He has a voice. And, boy, did he flex it yesterday. Musk, who’s now the co-chair of the newly established GOSH, Department of Government Efficiency, He called it out on X. He slammed the bill as being full of pork and accused Jeffries of thinking the public is dumb. He didn’t stop there. He wrote, the voice of the people was heard. This was a good day for America. And he’s right. It’s about shutting down the government. It’s about standing up to reckless spending. It’s about these political games that they’re all playing. And it is a game. It is a game. Hakeem Jeffries, when he stood there in that news conference yesterday and started citing all these different programs like Social Security, like Medicaid, like the natural disaster relief. We know people are hurting in western North Carolina, living in upstate South Carolina. I see it every day. And we know they’re hurting. They need money. But don’t you think… that as smart as some of these people are in Congress, that they could have come up with a continuing resolution that would have included whatever is needed for natural disasters, but not include something like renovating the RFK Stadium. Don’t you think that’s possible? And I think that’s why people just get so frustrated because we see these things. We read some of these examples that are put in front of us of things they want to do rather than doing the basics, doing what’s needed, helping people. I mean, the national debt has reached $36.2 trillion. That’s how much we owe. And it keeps going up. The budget deficit for the last fiscal year was $1.83 trillion. Think about this. That was the third largest budget deficit in our country’s history. We’re not learning. These people, Joe Biden and the Democrats, have been spending like drunken sailors these past almost four years. We have to stop that. That’s what the American people said on November the 5th is we’re fed up with this. We want a government that is responsive to us. We’re tired of the government wasting our money. They’re pushing for this bill that would have money for ethanol fuel and, of course, the pay raise for Congress. I mean, talk about not being able to read the room. Somebody wasn’t reading the room when they slid that. I’d love to know who did that. I’d love to know who put that provision in the bill to give Congress a pay raise. And we’re going to talk more about that in a minute. Welcome in on this Thursday. Glad to have you. Yes, sitting in for Mike as Mike has started his Christmas vacation. We’re going to hold down the fort, have some fun, and talk about, boy, there’s a lot of breaking news from Capitol Hill as Congress is scurrying around trying to decide what to do. with this massive spending bill that they tried to slip through. Fortunately, Elon Musk, President-elect Donald Trump, and some more conservative members of Congress were paying attention. Now it’s a matter of what takes place next. How do we meet tomorrow night, Friday evening’s deadline, or do we let the government partially close down? We’re going to talk about that a bit. I’d love to hear your comments on the government closing over Christmas. Is that going to affect you? Probably not going to affect you as much as this Teamsters strike that they have started early this morning. We’ve got a major development here before Christmas as the Teamsters Union just launched what they’re calling their historic nationwide strike against Amazon. with thousands of workers walking off the job at facilities across the country. For example, at 6 a.m. this morning, Amazon workers organized by the Teamsters went on strike at facilities like Stokey, Illinois, New York City, Atlanta, San Francisco, Southern California. And according to the union, this is the largest strike in Amazon’s history. And they’re threatening to escalate, to move this to other cities if, in fact, Amazon does not respond. The teams exclaimed they represent 10,000 workers across 10 Amazon facilities. But here’s the catch. Amazon doesn’t recognize the union. Amazon has no agreements with the union, according to the report I have. Company spokesperson Kelly Nantle didn’t mince words. She accused the Teamsters of intentionally misleading the public and using intimidation tactics to recruit workers, she said. The truth is that the Teamsters have actively threatened, intimidated, and attempted to coerce Amazon employees and third-party drivers to join them, which is illegal. And get this, Amazon says they don’t expect any impact on their operations. I don’t know how that works. I mean, if you’ve got 10,000 employees out, I’m not sure how you wouldn’t miss them. But, you know, we’ll see. We’ll see how this holds up. We’ll see if it affects Christmas deliveries. Could be a lot of presents out there that we’re expecting to open on Christmas Day that don’t arrive if you are in one of these areas. Or some of these areas, you know, the warehouses ship to other parts of the country. Whether you are expecting a delivery in Illinois, for example, may not affect you, but your package could be coming from Illinois. The Teamsters set a December 15th deadline for Amazon to negotiate contracts for higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions. Amazon just didn’t show up. And see, I think that’s what Amazon is saying. We don’t even recognize the Teamsters as a union within our organization. We don’t negotiate with them. So if your package is delayed and you look it up and you try to track it and you see that it’s in one of these areas, then that could be the culprit. Amazon insists that they offer competitive pay, health benefits, a 401K match, and opportunities for career growth. They even raised their average base wage to $22 per hour in September. There’s a lot for us to talk about today. Speaking of, of course, the Teamsters want Amazon to pay higher wages. This massive spending bill, that the Democrats and some Republicans were trying to slip through also had pay raises for members of the U.S. Congress. Some of them acted as if they didn’t know that they were getting a raise. Yesterday afternoon, Senator Dick Durbin was caught out in the hallway by a CNN reporter and was asked about the bill and was asked about did he feel that this was a good time for him to get a raise. The proposed spending bill that they were about to vote on until it started falling apart after President Trump and Elon Musk started picking it to pieces Senator Durbin, out in the hallway in the Senate office building, was asked about the congressional pay raises by a CNN host, Manu Raju. He asked him, he said, do you guys deserve a pay raise? Here’s Durbin’s response.

Members are giving themselves a pay raise. Do you guys deserve a pay raise?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, that’s news to me. It’s good news. You know, what has it been, 10 years or 14 years and no COA, no change at all? I think it’s about time something’s done. You support giving yourself the pay raise?
SPEAKER 10 :
How would I not know about the pay raise? But, I mean, people look at the performance of Congress and say, why should we give them more money? What about the media? Think about that for a second. And we’re not paid by public money.
SPEAKER 05 :
I know you’re not, but, I mean, half of your listeners are not there anymore. You’re still getting the same paycheck? What’s going on?
SPEAKER 07 :
Now, you know, kudos to Durbin. He turned it on this guy. But let’s think about that for a minute. Durbin appeared to be completely surprised that there was a provision in the spending bill that was going to give members of Congress a pay raise. They say it’s the first since 2009. So what’s worse? The fact that He didn’t know that he was about to vote on a pay raise? I mean, do you even believe it? Do you believe that a senior senator like Dick Durbin, he’s been there a while, do you even believe that he didn’t know this? Is it possible that a member of Congress could be voting for himself a raise and he didn’t realize he was voting for it, that it was even in the package? Now, I do give him credit. for turning it around on that CNN reporter. He wasn’t expecting that. And he makes a good point, doesn’t he? All the people at CNN, they continue to make their fat salaries, but, boy, their viewership, it has tanked big time. CNN is just a small portion of what it used to be. People have turned on CNN. I was looking at something yesterday. It compared CNN’s audience to audiences of other networks. Now, get this. TNT, the Food Network. Discovery Channel, Hallmark Mystery Channel, TLC, TBS, History, USA, MSNBC, Paramount, Hallmark Channel, ESPN, and, of course, Fox News all beat CNN. Today, this breaking news, Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing CEO Brian Thompson in New York City, has waived extradition at the Blair County Courthouse this morning. Mangione was at the courthouse today for a hearing on both his extradition and the charges filed by the Altoona Police where he was arrested at the McDonald’s. Mangione waived extradition, meaning he is now in custody of the New York Police Department. and will be taken back to New York City, where he is expected to plead not guilty at this time. We will continue to watch this and give you the most up-to-date. And also breaking this morning, a Georgia appeals court has dismissed Fannie Willis has removed her. She will no longer be working on the Trump election interference case. We’ve been discussing and sort of dissecting this whole continuing resolution, the massive spending bill that the Democrats almost slipped through. Thank goodness that Elon Musk and Donald Trump were paying attention because I’m not so sure that it would not have gone through. I’m not so sure that there’s some Republican members of Congress who were ready to vote for it. just to get it done because they hate the idea of a government shutdown. And we’ve been talking about that, and I’d love to get your comments on the whole idea of a government shutdown. But the bigger piece of this bill, and we’re learning more and more about what’s in it, you know, it’s over 1,500 pages. It’s the old Nancy Pelosi, just deliver a big pile of paper in front of these men and women. You know they can’t read it and ask them to vote for it and pass it. That’s what we’ve got to get. And if it’s not passed before midnight tomorrow night, midnight Friday, then we have a partial government shutdown. And that’s what the Democrats are trying to scare us with. Yesterday afternoon. Democrat minority leader Hakeem Jeffries held a news conference blaming House Republicans for this latest gridlock, talking about all the things that would go away if there is a partial government shutdown. And, of course, he was pointing his finger at Donald Trump and at the Republican members of the U.S. House. Here’s Hakeem Jeffries yesterday as he says this is going to hurt every American.

House Republicans, House Democrats, Senate Republicans, and Senate Democrats reached a bipartisan agreement to fund the government, keep it open, and meet the needs of the American people. We reached a bipartisan agreement to provide disaster assistance to everyday Americans whose lives have been upended and turned upside down. as a result of hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, floods, and other types of extreme weather events. We reached a bipartisan agreement to meet the needs of the American people and provide assistance to farmers, families, children, seniors, veterans, men and women in uniform, and working class Americans. House Republicans have now unilaterally decided to break a bipartisan agreement that they made. House Republicans have been ordered to shut down the government and hurt everyday Americans all across this country. House Republicans will now own any harm that is visited upon the American people that results from a government shutdown or worse. An agreement is an agreement. It was bipartisan, and there was nothing more to say.

Well, what happened here, Mr. Akeem Jeffries, As more members, yeah, you were sitting in a back room with some of the leadership, but as more members learned what was actually in the bill and decided, I can’t support this. They’re doing the right thing. They’re raising objections to things like the money for ethanol fuel, money to renovate the RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. What does that have to do with a continuing resolution to keep the government going? rebuilding the bridge in Baltimore. What does that have to do? with keeping the government going, with the essentials that we need. Yes, he quoted or referenced the $100 billion in disaster aid. That money is needed for people who are in the path of Hurricane Helene, for example, people in the upstate of South Carolina where I live, in western North Carolina. There’s a lot of work to be done there. So he dangles that out there, trying to upset people who need that money. It’s the typical Nancy Pelosi Democrat scare tactics. Now, he didn’t mention the pay raise for himself and other members of Congress, did he? You realize he didn’t say that? He just conveniently left that out. Because yesterday we learned when a CNN reporter challenged Senator Dick Durbin out in the hallway of the Senate office building was asked about the pay raise. Senator Durbin pretended he didn’t know it was in there. If he didn’t, shame on him. Shouldn’t you know things like this? Shouldn’t you know what’s in the bill you’re voting on? Because Durbin’s supportive of it. Coming up, I want to get your take on this, this whole idea of Congress voting to give themselves a pay. We’re going to do a little poll here.
