If something’s a good idea, you should not have to force people to do it. And many times those that are promoting tyranny are promoting it under the guise of compassion, but it’s never compassionate to take other people’s stuff, whether or not it’s their rights, their property, freedom, livelihood, opportunities, their childhoods, or lives via force. And force can be a weapon, but policy and unpredictable and excessive taxation, fear, coercion, government-induced inflation, This agenda by the World Economic Forum playing out at the local, county, and state levels, the globalist elites agenda, United Nations, this Colorado legislature is out of control. I’m looking at Bill Track 50 right now as of this morning, and we’re just about a little over halfway through, just about halfway through this legislative session. There have been 540 bills or resolutions that have been introduced today. That is out of control. So obviously this Colorado legislature, this governor, land use codes, zoning regulations, force fees, conservation easements, national monument designations, and the list goes on and on and on. Remember, if something’s a good idea, then you do not need to use force to implement it. I’d like to go with what Trump’s doing is rolling back regulations and rolling back this legislation. That’s why I’m so appreciative of my friends that are also board members of the Colorado Union of Taxpayers. This is a group of all volunteers that reviews legislation. Each week, really under our pledge of protecting the taxpayer, which is all of us, property rights, school choice, parental rights within that, as well as protecting our Colorado Taxpayers Bill of Rights. And this group, as of today, out of the 540 that have been proposed, we have rated 208 bills. And that is a tremendous amount of work. And go to coloradotaxpayer.org to join us. It’s only $25. First thing to be able to understand how to push back and fight back on overreaching government is you need to know what’s going on. And that is why the Colorado Union of Taxpayers is doing such great work. And I want to say thank you to this team. That is, here we go. It’s Steve Dorman, Greg Golianski, Russ Haas, Bill Hamill. So you can check that out. So super important. Our word of the day, want to get into this, is… And this is, thank you, Richard. This is, let’s see, irascible. And it’s I-R-A-S-C-I-B-L-E. And it could be prone to outbursts of temper or easily angered. Number two, characterized by or resulting from anger. Number three, prone to anger, easily provoked or inflamed to anger, choleric or irritable. And I find it so interesting, Joe, those on the left have said that those that support the American idea that Donald Trump and make America great again, that we would be irascible, that we would be destroying things. Yeah. We’ll take January 6th and just put that over there because there was a lot going on over there. But have you seen these headlines that there are Tesla dealerships, charging stations that are being destroyed, shot up? And I’m wondering, how is it on the left that they have guns that they can shoot up Tesla dealerships, right? Right. Yeah, that’s a good question. Because they don’t want everyday people to have firearms to protect ourselves against bad actors. But how do they have firearms that they can go up, go out and shoot? And because and the reason is, is because they are irascible regarding Elon Musk. And apparently they really like the idea that government has waste, fraud, and abuse, and so that’s why they’re shooting up these Tesla dealerships. Can you connect that dot? Does that make sense? It doesn’t make sense, does it?
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, that makes sense. It just kind of reminds me of the – I want to call them riots, but during the Black Lives Matter where they were destroying all these things and whatnot, but then they scream and yell that we’re going to destroy everything too, but they’re the ones who are actually destroying everything.
SPEAKER 17 :
Exactly. It’s called projectivism, projecting onto others what they’re actually doing. And remember, yes, that was the summer of love. The great thing about it was that they were really non-racist because they destroyed everybody’s business. And I remember seeing a news headline. This is almost like surreal as you think back about this. I saw, I want to say it was St. Louis, but a woman, a black woman, she had her own business. They came in and destroyed it. She said, this is what I worked for.
SPEAKER 16 :
And they raised millions of dollars and disappeared. There’s really no telling where they’re at right now. And that, to me, just was the start of the whole Ponzi scheme with the government as well.
SPEAKER 17 :
And apparently that’s imploding at this particular point in time. And Peter Berninger, I need to say that correctly, I’ve talked to him so much with the Wisconsin Center for Election Justice, has been all over that. And in fact, now that we’re seeing many of the top brass at Act Blue, which was the fundraising arm for the Democrat Party, that seems like that they are exiting like rats on a ship. And so it’s super interesting. So yes, I’ve been gone. I’ve been watching headlines. And there is a lot going on. And there’s a lot that is the same. And it seems like there’s the same general theme. So anyway, irascible, I think that we could say that those that are shooting up Tesla dealerships are irascible. How’s that? Okay. Our word of the day, excuse me, our quote of the day, I went to Maggie Thatcher because in the second hour, we’ve got two very brave women that will be on as our featured guests, Paula Scanlon and Megan Burke, who are both college athletes or were college athletes that are standing up for keeping men out of women’s sports, boys out of girls’ sports, and guys out of girls’ locker rooms and bathrooms, which… As I mentioned, I was traveling, and the idea of me going into a women’s bathroom and a man next to me, there’s got to be safe places for women. And again, this is all mixed up. The left says that you can’t define what a woman is and that men can go into women’s bathrooms, but yet I just saw this last weekend. It was International Women’s Day. But how do you have International Women’s Day, which is pushed by the left, which is divisive, again, How do you have an International Women’s Day when you say that women aren’t necessarily women? It doesn’t match up, Joe. It just doesn’t match up. Right?
SPEAKER 16 :
And it doesn’t match up to me either. And honestly, we have genetic markers that define whether we’re a boy or a girl. We should go off science, I think.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, and there’s other things. Who was it? Somebody said, just look down. If you have something, you’re a boy. If you don’t, you’re a girl. How’s that? Okay, let’s – anyway, the quote of the day, Maggie Thatcher. I thought about – I wanted to go to a strong woman but wasn’t this radical activist feminist. And Maggie Thatcher – and the quote for the end of the show is priceless as well – But she was born in 1925. She died in 2013. She was a British stateswoman and a conservative politician who served as prime minister of the United Kingdom from 79 to 1990. She was a leader of their conservative party. And as prime minister, she implemented policies that came to be known as Thatcherism. A Soviet journalist dubbed her the Iron Lady, a nickname that became associated with her uncompromising politics and and leadership style. She did not compromise on the principles. And I love that about her. But she said, and this is something that Republicans, conservatives, as we talk about messaging, she was key on this. You don’t win by just being against things. You only win by being for things and making your message perfectly clear. And I thought that was a great quote of the day. The bill of the day is one, and I want to give a shout out to Gammy. She calls in regularly, and she is so informed. She’s so fervent. She cares so deeply. And bless her heart, she has been writing on many of these terrible pieces of legislation. And it takes an enormous amount of time, as we know, with the Colorado Union of Taxpayers. But this is, and just to back up, with 540 pieces of legislation or resolutions that have been proposed, what they are doing, Joe, is they are flooding the zone. And there’s goofy stuff there, just goofy stuff. stuff that takes time. It has to go through hearing. But then there’s really bad stuff that’s being pushed through. So, for example, today down at the State House, 003, that’s Senate Bill 003, which is the magazine bill. It’s really an assault upon our Second Amendment rights. That has been working its way through. It’s been delayed. And as we’ll talk with Kevin Lundberg here in just a How you can tell if it’s a Senate bill or House bill, SB is Senate bill, HB is House bill. Then it’ll give the year 25 and then it’ll give the numbers. So there’s four numbers in House bills, three numbers in Senate bills. So start it out with 001. So you get to 003, and as Kevin says, you can see their agenda. So there is the early bill on 003 that is the magazine bill, and apparently this is supposed to be heard, I think, in committee over on the House side today. There’s going to be a big rally down at the Capitol as well. But there’s other things that are sneaking through. And this Senate Bill 25-178, Colorado K-5 Social and Emotional Health Pilot Program. So social and emotional learning is another code word for DEI, dividing our children. Telling our young, particularly our young Caucasian little boys that they are oppressors. And those children of color, different pigment of their skin, that they’re victims. And starting this early. The prime sponsor on this is Daphne Michelson Genet. and it’s a very bad bill, Senate Bill 25-178, and it is to be heard in committee. I think it is today at 1.30 in the Education Committee. So again, you’ve got all of this noise going on over here regarding the firearm bills, and then you’ve got these other things that are sneaking through, and this is by design. One other thing I wanted to mention. So that, again, is Senate Bill 178, the bill of the day. Big picture regarding Trump, the tariffs. It’s rocky right now. Stock market’s got really been hit quite significantly. And it’s rocky right now to try to get this ship righted. And so be patient. Stay the course. That’s what we need to do. One other thing that I wanted to mention was we’re in Lent now, which is the 40 days before Easter. And really interesting was at church in western Wyoming on Sunday, and the pastor talked about Simon of Cyrene, which he’d gone into Jerusalem for the Passover, and And Cyrene is a long way away. He’d come in from the country. And as the pastor said, he said, Simon of Cyrene comes in. He hasn’t been around with all the stuff that has happened with Jesus coming into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. You get to the trial where now Jesus is going to be crucified. He has to carry his cross. He’s been scourged. He’s lost a lot of blood. He’s very weak. And as the pastor said, is that the edict has been given that he was to be crucified. So those Roman soldiers, he said it was about three quarters of a mile from where the trials were to Golgotha, where Christ would be crucified. And in those three quarters of a mile, they wanted to make sure Christ did not die because they wanted to crucify him, which is lots of misery there. And so they’re realizing that he’s very injured, obviously, from all of this. So here comes Simon from Cyrene Inn, and he’s watching all this. And all of a sudden, he’s told, okay, you carry this cross. They’re not sure if it was the cross or just the cross beam. And apparently under Roman law, a Roman soldier could basically conscript somebody to carry their pack for a mile. And then after a mile, you could put down the pack and go on your merry way. So the idea that Simon is told, you carry this cross for three quarters of a mile. I’m just thinking, Joe. what kind of a day would that be that you get up you’re going to go into jerusalem for the passover and next thing you know is you are carrying this cross the christ is going to be crucified i i you just never know what a day is going to hold joe and i know simon of cyrene had no idea anyway that really hit me joe on sunday

No, that makes sense. I also think during those times, the Romans were always in war, so it was probably just a natural thing as well to a degree.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, that’s probably true. But again, you get up in the morning, you never know what the day is going to offer to you. And so that’s why we do this show. I do want to say thank you to Hooters. I’m doing pretty well. You know, I mean, it sure seemed early this morning.

So I’ve been traveling. When I looked over at the clock in my car on the way into the studio, it had a four before the night. I’m thinking, oh, man, this is going to be jet lag.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, but, you know, I think there are a lot of people out there who are adjusting to the new time. And a little bit of a footnote, I just assume they get rid of the swapping around and go back to when noon is noon and midnight is midnight rather than, you know, the way they play the game. But anyway, we’re surviving a new day. You know, you put an interesting spin on it. what to expect every day a few minutes ago here, and we need to be prepared to charge forward whatever the Lord leads us to.
SPEAKER 17 :
You know, that’s it. And Kevin, I… I had never, ever really thought that much about Simon of Cyrene until I was sitting in church on Sunday. And it just really hit me. And you just never know what a day is going to hold for you. And Simon of Cyrene, it changed history. It’s just remarkable.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, yeah, and I think there’s something to be drawn from that just right here and now, and that is each one of us has a real role to play and responsibilities to take on. Not everything, but just what’s put before us. So we need to be willing and ready and move forward. So let’s do it.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, and think about this. You have a state, you have a community, you have a state, you have a country of people that are willing to embrace the day, seize the day, if you will. We can change this. We can reclaim this country. It’s a little rocky right now, Kevin, out there. A lot of people that… Very excited about Trump being elected and the changes that he’s made. I can feel that people are getting restless with the stock market down. I feel like the deep state here in America and across the world are sensing that there’s some vulnerabilities, and so they’re wanting to seize upon it. And we’ve got to stay the course here because it’s going to be a little rocky, I think.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, well, for sure. I mean, I’ve expected this all along. You know, you mentioned the stock market, but sort of in my personal financial plans, I thought, well, you know, there’s going to be a dip because there’s going to be some shock because change brings that about. But I am still one. As a matter of fact, the more we get into the Trump administration, the more excited I become with the total outcome. This guy isn’t just trying to survive. He is looking at the big picture, and he’s had enough time to really consider this carefully on what role the presidency can take in this. And he’s determined to put us back on track. And it’s not always easy. You know, it’s like when you go on a diet or you put yourself on a budget, there are some moments you have to look at and say, oh, shoot, I can’t do this or that anymore because I’ve got a long-term goal to cure it, to fix it, to head the right direction. That’s exactly what we’re doing right now. And, yes, please hold the course. Keep your eye on the long term. That’s what this president is doing, and that’s what we need here in Colorado as well. I mean, we look at the legislative situation right now, and it’s grim, and it just looks ugly, ugly, ugly because the wrong people are in charge, and we’ve got a lot of work to do if we want to put good, strong, conservative principles back in place, not just in this nation, but in this state. And I’m not expecting Colorado to be the leader in the changes, but I am expecting the nation to change and the state to come around. And I’m seeing a little bit of this. I mean, look, we picked up a few members of the House. As a Republican, I’m speaking. And we picked up a very important position in the U.S. House so that we now have a balance of the Democrats and Republican members of Congress in the House. I see a trend even here, but I see it happening more quickly elsewhere. So we need lots of patience and we need to dig in, roll up our sleeves and get to work. You know, here’s a good example. I’ve kind of taken this every direction, but a little bit later this month, the GOP is going to elect new leadership for the next two years. And I believe people need to ask the hard, tough questions is not just how can we survive, but how can we thrive? Who is out there to point us in the best direction and I’ll add a little editorial comment, and stop the contentious dissension that we’ve seen within the Republican ranks. We need to go shoulder to shoulder. You know, a house divided cannot stand. That’s a biblical principle that Abraham Lincoln seized on and put to work in his efforts within the Civil War. And we need that today, right here and right now.

But last time around, we’ve had this rub between… And Kevin, I don’t know what to call it. There’s a lot of people that have been Republicans for a long time and really love the brand. And… Sometimes love the brand more than the principles. And I don’t know if I like the word establishment. I don’t really like to use the word rhinos, grassroots. But there’s been a divide. First of all, do you have a definition what the divide is?
SPEAKER 05 :
I know, I know. Yeah, you kind of catch me on that one. There is… There’s a lot of contention within the state party or within the party. Now, I’m going to say the state party because, you know, I’ve seen through the years that some local county parties will have some dysfunction for one reason or another. There will be some bad actor or, you know, some disaster will occur and everything seems to fall apart. But it And so you’ve got a little bit of that happening all the time. I mean, when I started in my political career in running for office back in the late 90s, Larimer County was a mess. We just had, you know, the GOP, we had this battle between us and them, and, you know, everybody was pointing fingers at everybody else, and we formed that circular firing squad quite a bit. And as a consequence, a very Republican Senate district was run by a Democrat for eight years. And that’s what you get out of this. And I’m very pleased to say that here in Larimer County, we’ve really gotten past that. And we’ve got a good team that are all headed the right direction. And, you know, we don’t agree on everything, but it’s like Ronald Reagan said, if you you know, if you’re with me 80% of the time, you’re with me. And we sort out the rest as friends, not as political enemies. But there’s been a little too much of that happening at the state level right now, and we need to fix that. We need to stop battling among ourselves and realize that the real enemy out there is in charge of the legislature and is in the governor’s office and is it pointing judges that that are just following suit with all this you know we’re going to get into this in a few couple of minutes here where um where we’ll look at what’s happening right now today in the legislature and it’s not good but we cannot cure that as a political party a republican political party without without identifying where the real challenge is, who the enemy is, if you will, in political terms.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, and it’s difficult, Kevin. You and I have had some serious conversations about this. But the story that I wanted to tell you, and I’ve never told this on the air, I’ve told this to people. But before the last time there was a selection for the state GOP chair, this was probably in January, because it was after the bowl games. And a guy called me and I’d seen him at different Republican breakfasts and, you know, said hello. And then he had called me actually prior to that regarding a candidate. And I can’t remember if it was for governor or I think it was for I don’t remember. Anyway, he said that he had some dirt on this particular candidate. It was a candidate. It was Republican candidate and that he wanted me to know about it. And I said, OK, I said, well, just he said he had the proof. And I said, OK, well, just send me over the proof, because, as you know, I really try to focus not on the personalities, but on the particular issues. And he said, well, I can’t send it over. And I said, well, then I said, I guess never mind. And he said, well, I can show it to you. And I said, okay. So I met him over at his office, and he basically kind of slid the paper across the table to me, and I looked at it. And it was really, from what I could see, a nothing burger. And so I realized this guy was out there. He was one of those, I call them now enforcers. that I’ve seen from the Republican, I’m going to say, I don’t know what to call it, because there’s maybe an enforcer of the consultant class. I think that’s what I’m going to call it. So anyway, I had that experience with him, and I never went after the candidate because I felt that it was, again, a nothing burger on that. So this guy calls me before the last selection of the GOP chair, and he said, hey, who do you like for GOP chair? And I said, well, gosh, I don’t really know. I’ve heard this person’s running, this person’s running. And he said, well, if the grassroots wins, he said, we will burn it down. I said, really? Interesting. And then what has happened is I think there’s been some self-inflicted wounds by some of those on the grassroots side. And so it’s been able to create all of this division. And I felt that this consultant class would rather take out the grassroots than take out the Democrats. And I’ve never told that story on the air before.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, it’s not terribly surprising, but I don’t want to point fingers either way, because I think here’s the principle I’ve tried to adhere to in my political career, and that is don’t engage at that level. I’ve had through my time in office and in political prominence, people come to me and say, hey, let’s take out so-and-so. And boy, I heard this rumor about that or something like that. And I’m just like, count me out. I don’t want to be there. Let’s stick to the policies. And you’re right. I mean, There are all sorts of personalities, and I try to be as flexible as possible. You know, I don’t try to isolate myself to just the team I like and diss everybody else. Something I realized a long time ago is when you have a two-party system, You have a wide variety of folks within both of those parties, but they sort of center on something. And in our country, the Democrat Party pretty much centers on the government being the solution to most everything, and they grow from there. And that’s how government grows and taxes grow and regulations grow and freedoms diminish. The Republicans, on the other hand, aren’t perfect. But our attitude is a little closer to let’s see if this concept of freedom really does work when you enable individuals to be the best they can be by limiting what government does to them and for them. And, you know, within that general framework, I’m very comfortable as a Republican. There was a time, I’ll tell you a story I’ve got really quick. maybe 40 years ago, I was ready to give up on the Republican Party. I mean, just flat out was totally disgusted because I just couldn’t agree with some of the things that they were promoting that I thought were not true to the principles of the party. And I went to a friend of mine. Well, actually, I didn’t know the guy at that time, but he’s become a fast friend since. And I said, when are we going to change this? And and form a party that really stands for the principles that we know are right and true. And he turned to me, and this was in 1991, and he said, let me tell you how the Republicans are going to take over Congress. And he outlined to me what Newt Gingrich essentially engineered in 1994, three years later. And I walked away thinking, well, that’s not the— question I asked him. And it was really his answer was, you’ve got to work within the party and you’ve got to figure out how to flourish and thrive. And you can’t go play your own little game on the side without just being a disruptor to our basic two-party system in this country, which has served us well over the centuries. We’re in some rough water here in Colorado right now. But I believe that we need to refocus our attention to the real challenges that we have in governance. And it’s not that Republican sitting beside you who you don’t always agree with. It’s that Speaker of the House who is putting on Senate Bill 3 on adjournment this morning. to ban semiautomatic weapons from the hands of many, many people, to set up an early registration system to completely change the mechanism for training for concealed carry in this state. that’s a severe threat to the Second Amendment rights, privileges, and duties that responsible citizens have. And that’s where our attention needs to be trained. And we need to train ourselves with good government principles, but understand it’s within the context of how can you work with that neighbor of yours that you only agree with Well, if you do agree with 80% of the time and you only disagree with 20% of the time.

First of all, I think as I look at the landscape of people in Colorado, I have great regard for you as you mentioned how you are trying to focus on principles, not the personalities, and navigate the Politics is a tough business, and people come in with different self-interests, and sometimes they think they understand the principles. But sometimes, I even saw this on the Republican side, that it was that there are Republicans that like big government, that they want to tell people how to live just the way they think they should. And so this whole freedom thing, it’s really interesting. It’s complicated. But I think that you have, over your years, really done a great job in trying to navigate this. And I really respect you for that, Kevin.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, I appreciate your compliment there. It’s pretty simple. Just try to keep your eye on the ball on the big issues. You know, it’s so easy for personalities to kind of get pulled in and somebody get angry at somebody else, some sense of retribution that they want to put in place or something like that. But stick to the, you know, when I entered the legislature, I realized that there’s just too much to be done here. You know, you can’t do everything. So you’ve got to really focus in on what are the important issues and And you’ve got to specialize, too. I decided that I would focus in on family-related issues. I was very active in the homeschool world at that time, and so education was a high priority. But just the very concept of the family was important. So there again, that was another thing that I zeroed in on. stick with that’s why i’m helping put together protect kids colorado love it hey is is there are uh needs we have in our culture to to address those issues and there are others who are doing great work you know i this kind of a footnote here but mike kopp was the republican leader in the senate while i was there for a little while and then he stepped aside for personal issues and and uh… uh… went and lived his life elsewhere he is focusing in on energy he’s now a special assistant to chris wright the secretary of energy and uh… that’s an example of somebody who’s honing in on another another important spot uh… we all need to do that and when you get into the legislature you realize you can’t do it all so you’re going to have to do the right thing at the right time and And that’s just, you know, where I’ve been trying to head. And anybody can do it. It’s pretty simple. You just keep your eye headed towards the goal and don’t get distracted by all the flack that comes your way. And, yeah, flack happens a lot in the legislature.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, it does. And I mentioned earlier in the show that I think what’s happening here in Colorado with all of this legislation, these resolutions, is they’re flooding the zone. And it really is close to exhausting to try to watch this. And between the Colorado Union of Taxpayers and then Sue Moore and her group over at Liberty Scorecard, We’re looking at everything, and it’s daunting as I look at all of this legislation each week that there’s a bunch of junk, but there’s a bunch of stuff that is really, really bad. And one of those is the Senate Bill 003, which is supposed to be heard today on adjournment in the House Judiciary Committee.
SPEAKER 05 :

And there’s supposed to be a big rally regarding that. And I want to find out what your word, your ear to the ground has to say about it. But with our Bill Track 50, which is what we’re using for Colorado Union of Taxpayers, we pay for this great technology. I’d asked Karen, who’s the creator of this, to give me some, I gave her some key words, such as climate, energy, firearms, gift grants and donations, variety of things. And There’s 22 bills down at the State House right now with the word firearms in them. And so here we’ve got 003, and it’s taking a lot of attention. But there’s other bad stuff underneath there as well, and I think it’s by design.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, absolutely. And when it comes to our right to defend ourselves with firearms, absolutely. I’ve identified eight of those bills as being particularly onerous. And, yeah, I think Senate Bill 3 is, I don’t know if it’s the worst of the lot, because there’s a lot of stuff out there. But this is important. And my take on what they’re doing, Senate Bill 3 has already passed the Senate, and they amended it heavily. Usually they amended to kind of make it more acceptable to everybody. Well, in this case, I think they made it worse because they added stuff to it. But when it came over to the House, they had it scheduled, I don’t know, last week, week before, something like that. They pulled it from the calendar. And usually that’s an indication on a big, bad bill like that that they’re having trouble finding enough support or they’re getting some cold feet because they realize that politically this is going to cause them some trouble. Well, now they, I think it was yesterday that they announced it’s on the calendar tomorrow, on adjournment. And that’s kind of a special little thing there, too, because they’re trying to rush this through committee. They don’t want a lot of discussion on it. And if you want a bill, usually bills that go on upon adjournment, that means right after the House meets for their morning roll call and whatever details they have for that day. that they break in and there’s a little bit of space between that and lunch hour basically in the figure well we’ll we’ll try to cut shoehorned this this one in because it’ll go fast well they know this one isn’t going to go fast but this is their way to try to force it i have a feeling that they’re going to have to hunker down uh… because this is a this is a terrible idea and and most people recognize it so but they seem determined to push it through now unless So here’s the one potential shocker, which I doubt will happen, but if the sponsor said, well, we’re going to kill the bill, well, the sponsor could come up and say, eh, it’s a good idea, we think we’d like it, blah, blah, blah. But time has not come, so I’m asking the committee to kill the bill, and then they just, boom, it’s gone. They did that back in, well, when was it? It was when Senator Morris was the president of the Senate, and he had a terrible gun control bill, And he finally just killed it by asking for that. So maybe that’ll happen, but probably not. Probably they’re hunkering down and they’re going to work hard to jam this down our throats and we’ll have to see them in court because it is a violation of not only the U.S. Supreme Court, but the Colorado Supreme Court, the Colorado Constitution says that when it comes to the right to bear arms, that it shall not be questioned. And this is putting big questions out in front of people.
SPEAKER 17 :
Right, and as you mentioned, there’s other bills as well. We’ve got two minutes left, strategy-wise. So if they would kill the bill, okay. But this is going to be a dilemma if this gets to Polis’ desk. And Polis can either sign a bill, or he can veto it, or he can let it sit there on his desk for a certain period of time. And if he doesn’t sign it and doesn’t veto it, it becomes law. So here he is wanting to make a run for the presidency, and he’s trying to portray himself as a libertarian. If it makes it to his desk, he’s got a real dilemma. But maybe he will veto it so that he looks like Mr. Libertarian. Throwing that out there, you’ve got a minute, Kevin Lundberg.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, well, okay, but keep an eye on the big picture. What about all those other bills that are doing – doing damage to our second amendment rights excellent uh jared polis over the last over his entire tenure has been flooding the zone and maybe he hasn’t signed everything but he’s signed enough to make it really bad and also as a final final final put out for the day the supreme court said we’re going to look at uh 11 39 i think it was the the uh ban on can on conversion therapy, and I put that in quotes. The Supreme Court is finally going to review that, and they announced that yesterday.

Yeah, I saw that, and I had meant to ask you about that, too, so next week.

Characterized, number two, characterized by resulting from anger. Number three, prone to anger, easily provoked or inflamed to anger, choleric or irritable. I think that those that are shooting up the Tesla dealerships and destroying these charging stations, of which it took a lot of money to build those things, that their dislike for Elon Musk and him trying to find waste, fraud, and abuse in the government, they are absolutely irascible. And so your choice is to… Use that word in a sentence today. Our quote of the day, I went to Maggie Thatcher, because we’re going to have two very brave women on in this as our featured guests in the second hour, Paula Scanlon and Megan Burke. And so I wanted to go to brave women, and I went to Maggie Thatcher. She was born in 1925, died in 2013. She was a British stateswoman, and she… I love this. She was nicknamed the Iron Lady because she became associated with uncompromising politics. But what those politics were was those conservative values where I take that to the American founding. of conservative means to conserve these principles that is the vision of our country, that all men are created equal with these rights from God of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. And that’s where I want to be uncompromising as well. But she said this, and this is such a great message to all of us. You don’t win by just being against things necessarily. You only win by being four things and making your message perfectly clear. And that takes a lot of work to understand that and make your message clear. And that is why we do the show. My journey has been a journey from I was angry about what was going on to working to get my brain around these issues and then be able to work on the messaging. You all are on that journey with me. And it’s an important one. But ideas, and this has been attributed to Stalin. He said, ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our opponents have guns. Why would we let them have ideas? And that’s why I can make a connection immediately to this Colorado Senate Bill 003, because they say that they don’t want us to be able to have guns or firearms. And when you get to that point, then eventually they’re going to want us to not have ideas. We here in Colorado are at the tip of the spear on all of these particular issues. And that’s why it’s so important that we continue to have these discussions. The bill of the day. And again, I wanted to give a shout out again to Gammy. She calls in pretty regularly. She’s so well informed and understands these issues. And she’s been taking the time to write our legislators on many of these terrible bills. This is the Senate Bill 25-178. It’s Colorado K-5 Social and Emotional Pilot Program. Social and emotional learning is another code word for DEI, of which Donald Trump has said we’re going to get out of our – Our curriculum. And so first thing, I guess we need to let Donald Trump know that this Senator Daphne Michelson-Chenet is moving this forward. And I would really encourage Donald Trump and the Department of Education to pull federal funding from Colorado, particularly if this bill particularly passes. And again, social and emotional learning is code word for this DEI thing. And you might want to take a look at the Senate Bill 178. And again, thank you to Gammy, who’s written extensively on this. I do appreciate this. And I am really blessed to work with amazing sponsors. I know each and every one of them personally. And I know they strive for excellence in all that they do. We do know that. We talked with Kevin Lundberg about it. Riding a ship, getting it turned around, is not the easiest thing in the world, John Bozen, but it is necessary. America was headed off a cliff. And if we continued on towards where we were headed, we were headed towards, I think, communism and complete control of our lives, which never works out very well for the individual. And so getting the ship turned around, it’s going to be a little, we’re going to have some choppy waters here, I think.
SPEAKER 11 :

So when people, though, have some choppy waters in their own individual lives, something’s happened. It’s important that they reach out to John Bozen and Bozen Law. Yeah, absolutely. I can’t stress often enough, though I try hard, folks to give me a call as soon as something happens to them, a loved one, a neighbor, a coworker, a friend, because it really does make a huge difference to get a hold of someone early on in the process of what they’re going to go through, give them timely advice on how to deal with insurance carriers. how to handle the whole situation with regard to seeking the right kind of care, getting doctors involved that are going to put their health first, and so many things. And one of the first areas of inquiry I also go into with folks that call me is, what kind of insurance do you have? And I hear the same thing 90% of the time. Oh, I’ve got full coverage. Well, what does that mean? Most folks don’t. No, I don’t embarrass people when I say, no, no, what does that mean? But most folks don’t understand or know for auto insurance, for home insurance, really what they’ve got in terms of their coverage. And it’s so, so important, Kim. We’ve talked about this a little bit in the past. There’s different types of coverage. There’s different levels of coverage with regard to automobiles, with regard to your homeowner’s insurance. And people really need to understand that because the majority of people out there are underinsured, underinsured from the liability end of things. So if they were the ones that were responsible or caused an accident, they don’t have enough coverage to protect what they need to protect. Same thing when the other driver causes the accident, and if they’re underinsured, If you as a driver don’t have underinsured or uninsured motorist coverage, well, then you’re going to have a big problem there. Same thing, you know, and it’s not just automobile coverage. It’s homeowners insurance. We had that Marshall fire. Terrible tragedy. What compounded that tragedy were folks learning for the first time that they didn’t have enough insurance coverage to get their home rebuilt or to put them up while their home was getting rebuilt. And so just so important for folks to really understand and ask questions. Now, a good agent is going to make sure that people understand the coverage they have and that they have enough insurance coverage. But it’s a competitive market out there, and a lot of agents just tell folks, look, I’ll get you this for this price, and they don’t tell you what this is. They just give them a good quote. And it beats that quote they got from another agent, and they don’t ask questions. People kind of ask questions. It starts with finding the right agent, because if you’ve got a good agent, they’re going to make sure you have good coverage that protects you in the automobile, if something were to happen to your home. So that’s really important, good agent with good coverage, good insurance carriers.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, several things, and I giggled just a little bit because it sounds like you and I must have talked because normally this is the segue I do for Roger Mangan and his Roger Mangan State Farm Insurance team. But you mentioned something, and Joe mentioned this in the break as well. First of all, asking questions. So that goes to me is be curious. And I think that we have lost intellectual curiosity to some degree in America. And then also common sense. And those are two things that we really need to be teaching in our education system versus I mentioned the Senate Bill 25178, the social emotional learning. That’s not what we need to be doing. But being curious, even as you get older, is important. And being curious. What’s my insurance coverage? What does that look like? Do I have an agent if something happens to me? Is it a 1-800 number or do I have an agent? All those things are so important. And my parents used to say to me all the time, put your thinking cap on. And so somebody actually gave me a cap, a hat that says thinking cap. And I was over picking up some breakfast burrito at a little Mexican restaurant. And the girl behind the counter said, I love your cap. That’s what my parents and my teachers always said to me as well. So I think maybe that’s our takeaway today, John Bozen, is people need to put their thinking cap on.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, they do. I couldn’t agree more. I mean, ask questions. Nothing impressed me more. from my two-and-a-half, three-year-old son who just had what-ifs one after another.
SPEAKER 21 :

Just unbelievable curiosity. We need to continue that beyond the three- and four- and five-year-old stage. You got it. Especially when it’s anything we’re not completely familiar with, ask questions, lots of questions.

Paula was raised by a Taiwanese mother and an Irish-American father and she was taught from a young age to not draw attention to negativity. In Asian culture she explained though it may sound stereotypical everything you do should be scrutinized under the lens of being honorable to your family. That meant that her family expected her to go to a good school, get a good job and be a successful young woman. And so she never intended to go against this grain. She attended the University of Pennsylvania. She studied computer science and swam for the school’s prestigious NCAA Division I swim team. She was the only female athlete at the University of Pennsylvania’s engineering school in the class of 2022, and she’d later go on to work for a New York City financial technology company. But she ended up being thrust into history, I would say. University of Pennsylvania actually put a guy on the women’s swimming team and even let him go into the locker room, my understanding is, with all male parts intact, and it rocked her world. Paula Scanlon, welcome to the show. Thank you so much for having me on this morning. And do I have that right? Leah Thomas, as a male, was a mediocre swimmer. But as a male moving over into the women’s division, he was able to win many of the competition. But I heard that he actually was waltzing around in the ladies’ locker room as a male with his male parts in black. And so was that true? You would know.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes, he was undressing in our locker room 18 times per week. This was not something that happened once or twice. We were subjected to undressing in the locker room with him every single week, multiple times per day because we have multiple practices. And when we tried to raise concerns about it, our university told us that we were the problem, and they advised us to seek psychological services and recommended that we get a therapist.
SPEAKER 17 :
Actually, I would recommend that they seek psychological services. But anyway, we got that set up and you have become a real voice for keeping boys or men and boys out of women’s and girls sports and out of our locker rooms and our restrooms. That just is common sense, Paula Scanlon.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes, exactly. And that’s really what we’ve worked so hard. We’re joined by Megan on the other end, too, and you’ll hear from her. But there’s just so many wonderful women that have worked tirelessly to get this issue across the finish line. And obviously, there’s still so much work to be done, especially in the Denver area. But this is just something that, to me, is so crazy because… A couple of years ago, I would have laughed in your face if I heard that women had to defend this and defend our rights and defend our spaces and our sports teams. But here we are where people have lost their minds and there are radical crazies who are trying to suggest that men and women are the same and men have rights on women and have the right to be on a women’s sports team.
SPEAKER 17 :
It’s Crazyville. Absolutely. And Colorado is actually really at the tip of Crazyville. And Megan Burke, we had her on, I think maybe a year ago or so. She’s a lifelong Colorado resident and lifelong athlete. She was a standout track performer in high school, winning 15 class 5A state championships. My friends, that’s amazing. During her time at Smoky Hill, I’m sure Smoky Hill was glad to have her on their team, and three national championships. She had a full scholarship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She’s the chapter leader for the Independent Women’s Network here in Colorado and advocates protecting women’s and girls’ sports. Megan Burke, welcome.

Hello, Ken. Thank you so much for having us on this morning. Such an important issue to be talking about, especially here in Colorado.
SPEAKER 17 :
Megan, do you think I say this all the time? I think Colorado is at the tip of the spear of all this craziness. And as I have a volunteer gig as the president of the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, we’re watching all this legislation. And there’s things that are getting a lot of attention, but there is stuff that’s coming in underneath the radar as well. I think they’re flooding the zone. But, Megan, I think that here in Colorado, we are at the tip of the spear of crazyville.
SPEAKER 02 :
Oh, I think you’re completely right. I think this is the gender identity state, and they’re trying to push this. I believe it was last week they were pushing to be able to change your death certificate. And if you’re a male, be able to change it to a female on your death certificate, which then would really compromise medical research, because you will have a woman who died of prostate cancer. I mean, that’s how insane this stuff is. And yes, here we are at the tip of it. And even if you go and look at our youth sports, for example, Colorado Rapids, and go on their gender identity page, you are allowed to play on whatever team in which you identify within youth sports in Colorado. So we really have a lot of work to do here.
SPEAKER 17 :
So, Megan, you’re an athlete and my daughter was an athlete as well. She was a soccer player and she really was a great kicker. And she ended up being recruited by the boys freshman team to be their kicker. And this was a while ago, and I realized it was kind of avant-garde to have that happen. And the boys recruited her, and she actually was able to kick a couple of field goals, critical in a couple of different games, and the boys actually raised her up on their shoulders. They were really excited. As I look back, though, I’m not sure that I would have let her do that because that started to gray the area. What do you think about that, Megan?
SPEAKER 02 :
Yeah, I do think that starts a gray area and is a little bit controversial because at the same time, like a male on that team, you know, could have been kicking. And then the locker room scenario, that thing that you don’t think about and that I never thought about really as a competitor. I just thought about the competition part and how unfair it was. But when I heard Paula’s story. it really shocked me to my core also as a mom of two girls. And I think injury is a huge issue because if a male runs at full force into your daughter who’s kicking, she could be very injured and have lifelong injuries for that. And I think that’s another part of this problem is that if you allow men and boys and girls sports, it’s going to deter girls from playing because These are obvious things, but men are stronger. They’re bigger. These are biological things that are facts, right? I’m a track athlete. I’m trying to win my race by 0.002%. And males have a 12% to 30% advantage, and that’s even if you’re taking the hormone suppressants. So it’s a big, big difference.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, it is. And as I look back, I’m now looking back girls in Boy Scouts. All of those things. I really think we need to, and Trump is doing this, delineating things. And even I, I think, got caught up a little bit in this, Paula Scanlon. And so you are on the forefront of this, and you were at the signing, Paula, for President Trump regarding keeping men and boys out of girls and women’s sports. So tell me a little bit about that.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I was there joined by Megan, actually, so the two of us were there together. It was a wonderful day. There were so many young, wonderful girls there. And I think what my biggest takeaway really was is that even the youngest girls that were there at the signing, they were aware of this. They knew exactly why they were there. And that, to me, is so disappointing and upsetting because… We’ve subjected these young girls to go through this. We’ve subjected young girls to have to speak up. I mean, we saw in West Virginia these elementary school girls had to boycott their track and field competition because they were forced to compete against the boys. And we’ve put the burden on young women to speak out. And so that was really what I saw at the signing was, again, how many young people were there and how many young people… had to be the ones to speak out and make change and actually get this executive order signed and put into the president’s attention and take the time to do this. And so I was so honored to be there. I think it was a great day of celebration. But in a way, it was a little bit bittersweet because The fact that we had to be there and the fact that we had to waste a sitting president’s time and force him to do something as silly as sign an executive order that says boys don’t belong in women’s sports. I mean, it just shows how far we’ve fallen. So I would say definitely bittersweet.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, that is so cool. And Megan, you were there with your two little girls as well. And tell me about that. How was that day?
SPEAKER 02 :
It was a great day. Kim, you have kids, so it was a little tough with my youngest. My five-year-old was losing it a little bit in the EO. Paula knows this because she was kind of helping me, but I had to hold her through some of it, like count your teeth, hold my bracelets. At one point, she was like banging on the stage, and the Secret Service was like, please don’t have anyone do that. But honestly, for my two girls, it was a huge day for them because my oldest – has actually played against boys in her youth soccer. And I’m the soccer coach and all the girls are so confused and why is this person scoring so many points and this is unfair. So for my two girls, they know that this is going on and they know that mom works to protect their rights and make sure that they have the same opportunities that I had and make sure that they’re not in the same situation that Paula was in because no man should be in our locker room and no men should be in women’s sports. So we thank the president, you know, for putting that into place. But at the same time, like Paul is saying, are we really like having to make sure that women have their own category and our own spaces?
SPEAKER 17 :
It’s crazy, Bill. And before we go to break, that’s so funny that you would say that, Megan Burke, because early on, I learned with my children, I never would say my child will never then fill in the blank. Because as soon as I said that, like my child will never bang on the stage in the Oval Office. And the next thing you know, it’s your kid that’s doing it, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER 02 :
Oh, yes. Yes. I was like, this was my best actually parenting skills that I’ve ever had to put on because I was like, please just make it through this 30 minute speech.
SPEAKER 17 :
I laugh because I just totally understand that. And that’s one of the precious things about kids. The other thing about it, though, Megan Burke. is in five years, ten years, when they’re adults at the Thanksgiving table, you’re going to say, remember when, and you guys are all going to have a great laugh about that. So I want to continue the discussion with two women. I just get chills thinking about both of them, Paula Scanlon and Megan Burke, that they’re so courageous in what they are doing regarding protecting our women and our girls. I love it so much. Paula Scanlon, as I mentioned these two women, and I think about all of these women before you and Megan, and you’re really picking up the mantle here as strong women, and I really love that. But I want to understand a little bit more about Leah Thomas, this guy that changed his name and said he identified as a woman and then started swimming on the University of Pennsylvania swim team, waltzing around the girls’ locker room, you said 18 times, I think, a week ago. I know if it was me, I probably would grab my clothes and go to, you know, a stall and probably change my clothes there. I would not want to watch all that. What was going on with all the girls there in the locker room?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I mean, it was really challenging. I did have a teammate who had the locker right next to him, and she did go out and grab her clothes and change in a different locker. And every single time we had practice, every single time we changed, and everyone knew what she was doing. And when she went to our coach, they told us, you know, there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s on you to make yourself comfortable. And that was really what the message was, not just to myself and my teammates, but to every girl that was dealing with this situation. The burden to fix anything was on us. It was us, the women, that were the problem. It was us, the women, that needed to find ways to make ourselves comfortable. And they told us, essentially, with the way that they acted, that… our feelings and our safety and our privacy and all of that was less important than this one male athlete and that he was the priority and it was everything that had to be done to make him comfortable. And that ultimately showed with the way that the university handled everything, with the way the policies were handled. I mean, it was just not about the women. Women’s sports are not for women. They’re for men who identify as women. And it was really disappointing to see that having had sports in my life for so long and getting to college not being my goal and to show up there and they actually say, you know what, we don’t really care about your rights and your safety and your fairness. This is the men’s world now.
SPEAKER 17 :
So what happened? Did you girls come together? How did this play out? I’ve been watching it from afar, but I don’t really know exactly what happened then.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. In my season, my teammates never spoke up. There were people on the team who actually did support this. And so ultimately, he went on and continued to compete. He won Ivy League swimmer of the Ivy League championship meet. So it’s awarded to the woman that scores the most points. Well, the 2022 winner was actually a man. And then he went on and competed at the NCAA championship, where I’m sure everyone who’s listening is familiar with Riley’s story. And he went on and tied Riley in one event. He won the NCAA championship in another event. And the girls who placed second, third, and fourth in the event that he won at the NCAA championship are not just Olympians, but Olympic medalists. Wow.
SPEAKER 17 :
And so, Paula, are you starting to see, well, with President Trump’s executive order, I think that people are starting to say this is this is not no, this is not no, no pun intended there. Are you seeing people that are starting to, to get this needle moved to get this craziness stopped?
SPEAKER 03 :
Definitely. I mean, even since I went through this season three years ago now, we’ve seen so many women speak out. We’ve seen so many women across the country in different states in different sports. I mean, we’ve heard stories from every sport you can possibly imagine. I mean, I’ve been connected with people playing professional disc golf, which I wasn’t even sure what that even was. But really what that shows is, first, this is happening everywhere. It’s not small, like they say. But second, that there’s so many women who have taken this burden on and said, enough is enough. I don’t want to deal with this anymore and have spoken out. And so I think that’s been one of, to me, the most rewarding parts of this journey is just how many women I’ve met across. this whole experience in speaking out and also how many different age ranges are represented here. I mean, we have women who never competed against male athletes themselves that are older that are speaking out. We have professionals that are speaking out. We have high school girls. We have middle school girls. We obviously have our whole group of us that dealt with this in college. And so that to me has been really rewarding. And I’ve found a lot of really strong female friends, which is something I’m so grateful for. And Megan is one of them on the other end. Megan is one of those people that I’ve been so blessed to get to meet and get to know, and her wonderful daughters that she’s fighting for. And that is exactly why we do what we do.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, Megan, let’s talk about Colorado now. Certainly, I can see that there’s women and men that are coming together to protect women and girls and their sports. And as the Colorado chapter director of the Independent Women’s Forum, you really are on the cutting edge here of what is happening on this issue. So Colorado, bring us up to speed. And how can people help you here in Colorado?
SPEAKER 02 :
So Colorado right now, under the executive order, we are supposed to follow the executive order, which was written very clearly and very, very precise. But knowing Colorado, I’m sure they will turn a blind eye. So we most likely will have to do another ballot initiative like we did last summer to try to get something on the ballot so we, the people, can control this issue and we, the people, can vote on this issue like we should be able to because, Kim, 79% of Americans don’t believe that men should be in women’s sports. And I believe 69% of Democrats, Paula actually gave me this number, don’t believe men should be in women’s sports. So the overwhelming population doesn’t believe this should be happening. So we need to make sure that doesn’t happen to our girls. One girl is too many. And like Paula was saying, we have an amazing group of women from around the country, and it has been such a big blessing of mine as well to work with these women, be friends with people like Paula. And that’s been the most rewarding part of this is that we have strong, amazing, brilliant women around the country fighting on this issue. And we will not let little girls be competing with boys, and one little girl being pushed off the podium, one little girl being injured in a game, one little girl being displaced off a team because there’s not enough laps on the track. That’s too many. And this is a big issue, especially in track. There is a track meet around the country every single weekend, and every single weekend, a man wins in the female category in one of the events in track.
SPEAKER 17 :
That is, it’s really unbelievable. And the other thing is, Paula Scanlon, is to try to make you feel like there’s something wrong with you female athletes on the University of Pennsylvania swim team, that you are uncomfortable with a guy in the locker room. And I have seen pictures of Leah Thomas and his shoulders are huge. It looks like a man. on what world could this happen, but… It is a man. It is a man. It isn’t true. It doesn’t just look like a man. It is a man. It is a man. Paula… Courage is contagious. And as each of you have started to stand up, it’s not been easy, but courage is contagious. And as you stand up, you’re seeing more and more people join you on this. I think that that’s important. Maybe that’s a takeaway is courage is contagious, Paula Scanlon.
SPEAKER 03 :
Definitely. I mean, that’s exactly why we spoke out is we wanted to give people strength in numbers. We wanted to be there to support the female athletes. And I think one of the most valuable things we’ve gotten to do collectively is that we’ve been able to track these stories. And when we see these stories, like Megan’s mentioned, these track meets across the country, we go and then try to reach out to these girls. We say, hey, you know, we know what you’ve been through. We’re here to support you. And really giving people that support has allowed them to speak out. And we’ve been able to help other girls not go through this. And I think one of the best examples is the Roanoke College swim team. I mean, we’d gotten a hold of the story and we went down to Roanoke, myself, Riley, others. to say, hey, we know what you’re going through. We support you. It was the exact same situation. It was this male athlete that had competed on the men’s team wanting to switch over to the women’s team, and the girls actually stood up against it, and he was not allowed to compete, and so they went on to have a season free from a male teammate, and that was so rewarding to see that get done, and it was really because We had spoken out first that they knew that they could, but also that we were there to be that support system and really just support them however we could. And, of course, the emotional damages the girls went through from dealing with that will still follow them for the rest of their lives. It never should have even been a situation where this was a conversation to be had. But, ultimately, he did not end up competing on their team, and I think that was a great win. And we’re continuing to help people, and especially in Denver. I mean, Megan can talk more about this. This is still a problem in bluer states. I’m from the Northeast myself, so I completely understand. I mean, Connecticut… My home state is still such a problem with this. And we need to stand up for these people in these states that are going to keep allowing this. And we also have to continue to raise awareness and continue to put pressure on the government until every single state is on board and does not allow men to compete in women’s sports.
SPEAKER 17 :

My sister was also a division one runner and a state champion multiple times here. And you can reach out to me there. I’m usually putting updates up of what’s going on. I’m sure most of your listeners know that East High School changed their second floor bathroom, the women’s bathroom, to all gender, but kept the men’s bathroom. So these are little battles that are going on. So unfortunately, all the girls at East High School on the second floor are having to share bathrooms. their bathroom, which is insane. So there are little battles like that that we can get behind and help protect these girls because Colorado, these girls need to be protected. And we have an amazing sports community here, so we have to make sure we keep it on track.
SPEAKER 17 :

But wanted to get Mike on the line with me. He’s been watching the Senate bill yesterday. And as I mentioned, they’re flooding the zone with all kinds of bills, and there’s some very bad ones. And I appreciate Mike and also Gammy. She’s written on this. This is a surveillance bill, and it’s done under the guise of fire mitigation. And it has bipartisan support, which what happens sometimes is – People can get co-opted into supporting these bills because they think that it’s X, what they say it is, when really it’s Y, what’s really going to happen. And, Mike, I think that that’s maybe what’s going on with this particular bill, and it’s going to be heard in committee today. So you’re super concerned about it. Mike, welcome.

Hi, Kim. Thanks for having me on again. Yeah, this has been a concern for me for the past three years watching how this is coming together. Senate Finance Committee is hearing it today. One of the immediate concerns for them is the fiscal potential up to $1 million in 25 to 26 and $2 million in 26 to 27. From what I understand, it also can cut into the normal defensible space and fuels reduction budgets of local communities and counties. But I want to talk about something a little more interesting. There’s a paper called AI Systems as State Actors. It was, I think, by Harvard Law. No, sorry, Columbia Law. And they discussed the Manhattan Community Access Corp versus HALIC. There is a litmus test for a company to be considered a state actor. Private party performs a function that is traditionally and exclusively performed by the states. And I would say, except for a few of those metro rural districts that do some private firefighting, firefighting is generally done by the state, especially when you think about the surveillance of the smoke and what have you, maybe by satellites back in the past. State directs or compels the private party’s conduct. This is actually an agreement by the state to the vendor. And the private party acts jointly with the government. there is a potential for this type of vendor to be considered a state actor. I’d like that to be explored more. Two amendments came through at the last session. One, and this is interesting, they now added in that the vendor has to make all the end users aware of the criminal invasion of privacy law in Colorado. It’s a second-class misdemeanor. If you take pictures of people’s Privacy and use them without consent. It’s a second class misdemeanor. I think there might be stronger privacy laws, but this is a start and this is showing that they’re understanding that there could be a problem here. But I would ask, how would anyone ever know that these photos were taken? So even if this is in place, how would I know or you know that these photos are taken of a loved one or what have you that we would have? So I think we still need a citizen watchdog portal. We still need the ability to core up this company as a state actor. And we need a prohibition for off-label use. Law enforcement, zoning enforcement, things like that. I can only see that one time it’ll be, hey, someone was kidnapped. Can we use these to look at license plates just this one time? And then there you go. If it worked, then it’ll happen forever because mission creep is a real thing. And the amendment, too, that came in, now they have to use pixelation for privately owned structures. And my question is, why not lot lines? You can look at an app as easy as Onyx Hunt for just a few dollars a month. You can see every lot line. It’s all located with your GPS location. It should be pretty easy for them to do. And also maybe pixelate schools. I just want to bring that up to you. The hearing is 1.30 today. You can do it remotely. It takes just three minutes of your time, and you can listen in and wait for your time to speak and then join the process.

So, Mike, first of all, this thing just needs to go away. This is a very, very bad bill. And we need to stop the surveillance of everyday people. But they do it under the guise of, here, fire mitigation or finding a criminal. That’s the way it works. But one other thing is, now, there is bipartisan action. And that’s a problem. But another problem, and this is something that I’ve learned, and we are watching at the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, and this gifts, grants, and donations. And there are 47 bills down there at the Statehouse. that has that clause in there and what that means is is they pass the legislation they put it into law and then the interested parties can come in and backfill and push an agenda by putting in their own money to push this along and so there will be a private company my understanding They will be doing the surveillance. So don’t you find it interesting? This is really a surveillance issue, which is generally pushed by the radical extreme left, but with the help of Republicans. But. that here they’re pushing this for surveillance, but you have Elon Musk over here finding waste, fraud, and abuse, and they’re screaming bloody murder on that. But here we have 47 bills where you could have private enterprise come in and affect legislation. I know that’s a lot to set up. You’ve got about a minute. Your comments, Mike.

Well, that’s interesting because, say, the company such as Apano AI might not want to gift their own business to, But they might in a sense if they sponsor their own cameras to prove the business model that that could be an investment for the future. The second thing I will worry about there are third-party NGOs. potentially funding this through gifts. You know, so say I hate to raise the specter of spooky man, George Soros, but something like that where they say, well, we can do this so we could fund it for the better good. We do know the World Economic Forum had the Trillion Trees competition, and they also have a white paper describing this exact technology. And other solutions in that World Economic Forum paper talks about integration with drones and integration with microphones. That’s their words, not mine.

Wow. And so this Senate Bill 011 is going to be heard in committee today at 1.30. Which committee was that again?
