In this episode, Mike Gallagher explores the political climate and its effects on personal relationships. From jury duty reflections to engaging conversations with a Democrat cousin, Mike emphasizes the importance of dialogue and understanding differing viewpoints. We also examine the media’s treatment of Trump’s policies and how certain figures, like Elon Musk, have become the center of political controversy. Listen in as we tackle these issues with humor, analysis, and an open mind.

SPEAKER 11 :
Got a bunch of feedback on my jury duty on Monday. I’m still kind of reeling from that experience. I forgot to check in with Roger P. Shulman. He was going to, because I, you know, I saw the, I heard the name of the defendant. I want to know what the case was about. Tracy, can we check with Roger and find out if he knows about the, what that case, I’m interested to find out what happens. If he’s going to be convicted, if he’s going to be acquitted. He looked like a nice guy. I mean, you walk into the jury room and he’s sitting there just facing you with his defense attorney next to him. It’s like right out of forensic files. I’m telling you, True Crime Mike was pretty excited Monday. I was even more excited when I got dismissed when I stood up and I said, well, now I’m very pro-police. And that defense attorney said, uh-uh, we’re not going to have this guy on our jury. But what a neat experience. And it changed my whole world view about juries. It did feel good to fulfill my civic responsibility. I don’t want to get preachy on you, but it did feel pretty good. It felt great, actually. Hey, I mentioned about lunch with Mark and Mike, the M&M experience for Food for the Poor. We’ll tell you more about that tomorrow. Am I excited to have a chance to dine with you in person in Alaska and sightsee and entertain and inform? The second annual Patriots Alaska Cruise is coming in August. Larry Elder, Mike Gallagher, Joe Piscopo from Saturday Night Live fame and more, the morning host in New York. Jen Horn from Los Angeles, she’s one of my favorite people in the world. Go to TravelWithSalem.com to get all the details, the itinerary, the pricing. It’s August 16th through the 23rd. We sail out of Seattle. It’s a beautiful cruise ship. There’s nothing like an Alaska cruise. I’m telling you, I don’t just say that because it’s a copy point. When Denise and the kids and I took an Alaskan cruise years ago, I thought this is the best cruise I’ve ever been on in my life. sightseeing and the wilderness and the exploration. And then at night on the world stage on the ship, we all get together and we talk about politics and we play videos and maybe even have some musical entertainment as well. Travelwithsalem.com. It’s a vacation you’ll never forget. The second annual Patriots Alaska Cruise with yours truly and the great Aldersky. Travel with Salem.com. Travel with Salem.com is the website. If you want the link sent back to you, just text the keyword Alaska to the MyPillow text line, which is 800-655-MIKE. Text Alaska to 800-655-6453. Tariffs. The media freaking out. I want to play a video clip from a group. This is a TikTok account called Random Facts in the World. That’s the name of the group. And I want to play this for you. If you’re watching on Salem News Channel, there’s a lot of good graphics and stuff. And then we’ll tell you how you can get the clip for yourself through our text line. But here’s the clip that I thought was very, very informative.
SPEAKER 05 :
Trump’s promised 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico and 10% on China. What that means is that any goods sent from these countries to the United States will now cost companies 25% more or 10% in China’s case. So, for example, if a Canadian business sent a car to the U.S. that cost $50,000, today U.S. companies will pay a $12,500 tariff at the border. So the price of your once $50,000 car is now actually $62,500. Why would Trump purposefully make things more expensive for Americans? Well, two main reasons. The first is more of a longer-term, unguaranteed benefit. but it would be to change consumer habits to buy more American-made products and incentivize more international companies to manufacture in the U.S. In theory, that means a stronger U.S. economy, more stable jobs, and less dependence on foreign countries. The second reason for imposing these tariffs would be to use them as a tool to pressure Canada, Mexico, and China into doing what Trump wants. Some of these things that he’s publicly mentioned include renegotiating trade deals, stopping illegal immigration, and the flow of fentanyl. There’s also the far-fetched idea of Canada becoming a state of America. But here’s where things get interesting. Because instead of just doing what Trump wants, Canada has clapped back with a 25% tariff of their own. And Mexico said they’re doing the same but haven’t announced the percentage yet. China reacted a little differently by preparing to file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization. So why is Trump not backing down? Just listen to this. In 2023, Canada sent 76% of all of their exports to the United States. That accounts for roughly 19% of their entire GDP. In 2024, Mexico sent 78% of all of their exports to the United States. That makes up 37% of their entire GDP. But for America, their exports to both countries combined only make up roughly 2.7% of their entire GDP. So simply put, even if they do retaliate, getting into a tariff war with the United States would hit Canada and Mexico much harder. Trump knows this, and he’s using it.
SPEAKER 11 :
It’s really good, really good stuff. And again, I’ve got to find out more about this. Christian says they’ve got a pretty good following on TikTok, and this was posted on X. The group is called Random Facts in the World, Random Facts in the World. If you want that clip and you want to share it with your kids or your friends, your coworkers, whatever, just text the keyword tariff. or tariffs to 800-655-MIKE. Just text the keyword tariff or tariffs to 800-655-6453. And we’ll send it back to you. Please never text and drive. Standard text messaging rates may apply. So look, good news on the inflation front. Some breaking news here. Breaking news on a Wednesday.
SPEAKER 03 :
Breaking now on the Mike Gallagher Show.
SPEAKER 11 :
The February Consumer Price Index report showed inflation eased in January, calming some fears about the U.S. economy’s health. During a rocky few weeks for the markets, this will probably be good news, or undoubtedly be good news for the markets, but inflation is down. The latest data shows that the CPI increased 2.8% over the prior year in February. It’s below January’s 3% annual gain and ahead of… the economists’ expectations of a 2.9% annual increase. So what does that mean in layman’s terms? Quite simply, things are getting better on the inflation front. Inflation is easing. Inflation is going down. It’s not crazy dramatic, but you know what? It’s a step in the right direction, and it’ll go a long way towards calming the stock market because you can’t freak out over one day or one week of the stock market. I just got the daily report for our Food for the Poor campaign. Look, if the new kid on the block, Chris Stegall, beats us in the campaign, I’m in big trouble. I’m giving up. You can’t let that happen. If you like what we do, because we’re all doing this together, this Food for the Poor campaign, I’m going to give you the phone number that I didn’t give you a moment ago. I just need 400 people to pop in 100 bucks. Let’s get 100 people today to donate $100. Food for the Poor. This is what we do. We do this a few times a year. And here’s the phone number that I left out before. If you want to make a phone call, have your credit card standing by and call Food for the Poor. 844-860-HOPE. That’s 844-860-4673. Or you can go to mikeonline.com, click on that banner at the top of the page, or just text the keyword food to 800-655-MIKE, and we’ll send you back the link. And thank you, thank you, thank you for supporting our Food for the Poor campaign. Come on, let’s get there. Come on, 400 people. Wouldn’t it be amazing? How astounding would it be if I could touch the hearts of 400 people, maybe even you, Ed, in Naples? Instead of being grumpy at me, feed starving children. Clothe the naked. Feed the hungry. Partner with the Christian ministry. All I need is 400 people to donate 100 bucks, and we’re there. We’ve got our goal. Maybe we could do it today. Go to mikeonline.com, click on the banner, or call 844-860-HOPE. Call 844-860-4673. However you reach out, I do hope you’ll join me as folks just like you all over America step up to help our friends at the Christian nonprofit international relief organization, Food for the Poor. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
SPEAKER 03 :
He’s the happy conservative warden. From the Relief Factor studios, here’s Mike Deller.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, well, well. The inflation number just came out. for February, and inflation is going down. Well, well, well, what do we have here? I wonder how Trump haters are going to spin it to blame him for an improving economy, which is going to sort of assuage the histrionics that are going on about the stock market, and Trump is destroying the entire economy, and he doesn’t know what he’s doing, and Elon Musk has a sledgehammer and a chainsaw. Good golly. Let’s let’s check in on CNN, see how they’re handling the news.
SPEAKER 08 :
Finally, we have some good news on the economy and really the number one issue for many Americans, the cost of living. So we just learned that consumer prices in February increased by two point eight percent year over year, point two percent month over month. Both of these figures were a step in the right direction and both were. were better than expected. So this is definitely very encouraging to see because it’s going to, I think, relieve some fears that inflation was perhaps re-accelerating because this actually breaks a streak of four straight months where I think you could see it on the chart all the way to the right where the inflation rate was going in the wrong direction, right? It was going higher and higher. Finally, we’re seeing it dip.
SPEAKER 11 :
Uh-oh, uh-oh, what are they going to say? Well, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. They’ll say, I hate that Donald Trump so much. If the man walked on water, it’s only because he’s too stupid to know how to swim. Had a great, meaningful dialogue with my cousin Paul. He’s one of my favorite people in the world. My cousin Paul is a Democrat, lifelong Democrat. and has got a heart the size of America. He’s got a wildly wonderful side of him that you would love. You wouldn’t like his politics, but man, is he a great guy. And he and I talked for about an hour last night. He hates, you know, what’s going on in the country with Trump and Republicans, and people are dying from USAID having their, you know, aid withheld. Trump’s corrupt. typical usual talking points, although he does listen to me and I make my case and he makes his case. And I hung up last night thinking, this is the way it always ought to be. This is the way it should go. We can disagree without blowing each other up. Teslas are being vandalized. Tesla dealerships are being attacked. Just for the heck of it, I asked a Tesla dealership near where I live, are you getting any fallout? From the controversy with Elon Musk and Doge, the ladies said, we get 100 calls a day from crazy people saying they’re going to blow the building up, they’re going to destroy the Teslas. I mean, and now conservatives are buying Teslas, including Donald Trump. He’s on the White House lawn yesterday. He picked one out, bought it. He said, I don’t want a discount. I’m going to write him a check. He picked out a bright red Tesla. And, you know, Elon Musk’s role in all of this is what confounds the left. Because they don’t understand how a private citizen has such an outsized role in the government. And look, I’m the first to admit it’s unconventional. Everything about Trump is unconventional. So he’s reached out to a smart guy to help clean up wasteful spending and save the taxpayers money. Maybe balance our budget and stop the goofy, crazy spending. So what did the left do when Trump boosted Tesla and Elon on the White House lawn yesterday? Well, they lost their minds. Let’s stick with CNN for a moment and check out the great Scott Jennings and his take on Abby Phillips, who was pushing back mightily on the idea that there would be a selection of cars on the White House lawn that the president of the United States buys one of them. And, of course, the CNN panel was flipping out until the voice of reason came along, our friend Scott Jennings.
SPEAKER 07 :
Look, Teslas, they’re cool cars, but the president is clearly trying to do his friend, political donor, actually government employee, a pretty big favor here for his private business.
SPEAKER 09 :
It’s hardly the first time we’ve had cars on the South Line. Here’s a video of Joe Biden driving a Jeep Rubicon around the South Line.
SPEAKER 07 :
And President Trump had did it before in his first term as well.
SPEAKER 09 :
pretty common for the president of the United States to boost American industries, American-made products, and companies that are employing Americans. It’s extremely common. He obviously has a close relationship with Elon, who, by the way, is, I think, unfairly under attack. And this company is unfairly under attack. You have these insane people all over the country chasing people down in their Teslas in New York City. I had a friend who tried to trade his Tesla in New York the other day, and there were protesters screaming at his children.
SPEAKER 07 :
These people are unhinged. And they deserve support from the government. But let’s be clear. Let’s not skirt over the fact that Elon Musk spent $250 million to elect Donald Trump. You’re against an American company. You don’t want the government to support this.
SPEAKER 11 :
Isn’t that amazing? Well, Elon Musk, and yesterday, $100 million pledged by Elon Musk to Trump’s PAC. And that is what makes them crazed. Now, if he was Ben and Jerry… and he was donating $100 million out of the Ben and Jerry coffers, they’d consider that a home run. They’d consider that a grand slam. And that’s the only reason they hate Elon Musk. They used to love Elon Musk. They loved EVs. And they used to love the concept of government efficiency. We went into the archives. We found a couple of clips from people you might recognize. I have to admit that I like Bernie Sanders in spite of myself. I do. He’s the real deal. He’s an old hippie, you know? He’s a hippie from Vermont, and he’s a socialist. But he is who he is. I don’t think there’s a hidden agenda with Bernie Sanders. Frankly, Bernie Sanders, to me, is one of the most authentic leftists in America. He doesn’t just go into a—I mean, he is who he is. Well, let’s go back to who he was in 2008.
SPEAKER 02 :
There is no question that there is an enormous amount of waste and fraud and abuse in this government. There is no question to my mind that Congress has not been vigilant enough in rooting out that waste and fraud to the tune of billions and billions of dollars. I would simply say that while it is absolutely appropriate to condemn the Congress, it is also important to note that we have an administration in this city, in Washington, D.C., and the function of an administration is to administer. And that means that when There is waste and fraud. You have an administration who should also be on top of that situation.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, well, Bernie, it may have taken a while, but we gave you one. You want an administration that deals with waste and fraud? We found one. It’s called the Trump administration. It’s here. Meanwhile, Bernie today says he’s living through the scariest period of his life as an American. He’s scared. He’s fearful of Trump’s slashing waste and fraud. Hey, back when it was cool, Bernie, in 2008, you didn’t like waste and fraud. Let me give you another star of the Democrat Party. The one and only Nancy Pelosi. Let’s hear what she used to say about government waste, fraud, and abuse in 2010.
SPEAKER 01 :
We cannot keep our promises on Medicare. We simply must. Make the cuts and waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicare so that the benefits and the premiums are untouched. We owe it to our seniors.
SPEAKER 11 :
We owe it to our country. Oh, okay. Well, we gave it to you, Nancy. We elected Donald Trump twice. And the second time around, he ain’t playing games. He’s not playing footsie anymore. He is peddled with a medal. And not everybody likes that. Isn’t it fascinating? Just look at the electric vehicle thing. A year ago, you couldn’t avoid being lectured by Democrats about how important it is for electric vehicles to save the planet. You ever driven a Tesla? You ever driven a Tesla? Do you know what a Tesla is like? Let me tell you something. You’ll never have more fun driving a car in your life. People are scared by the full-service driving. Oh, my gosh. It’s the coolest thing in the world. You are in your parking space in Tampa, Florida. and you say you want to go to Disney World in Orlando in an hour and a half, an hour and a half away, you push the full-service drive button, you pump the brake, and you’re at your parking place. The car backs out of the parking place and proceeds to get onto the highway, goes to 275, goes to I-4, and will take you all the way to the Magic Kingdom. You don’t touch anything. You don’t put your hand on the steering wheel. You don’t touch the screen. Fun to navigate. The car is a blast. I’ve driven Teslas. Trump bought one yesterday. Sean Hannity bought one yesterday. You know what’s great about Tesla? American made. There are some parts made in China. It is an overwhelmingly American product. And instead of thanking Elon Musk, the Henry Ford of our lifetime, they want to kill him. He has to have an army of bodyguards because he’s become despised. Why? It’s real simple. Because he used to be one of them. That’s the kind of American the left hates. If you used to be one of them and you go to the other side, he went over to the dark side. He’s helping Trump cut waste and fraud. Now he’s the devil. So what is it? What are we waiting for? What are we looking to do here? How about cut waste and fraud? And how about the great news on the economy and inflation actually declining? I thought Trump was wrecking the economy. My gosh. Happy Wednesday. We’re in the Relief Factor studios. It’s the Mike Gallagher Show, and we are so glad you’re with us. 800-655-MIKE. 800-655-6453. One phone call does it all. You don’t want to come on air with us? You don’t have to. You can text us on the MyPillow text line, which is 800-655-MIKE. I mean, which is it? Do Democrats want to get rid of waste and fraud, or do they? Were they talking a big game in years past, and now that Trump’s the one doing it, they don’t want to get rid of waste and fraud? What are they so angry about? Help me understand it. 1-800-655-MIKE.
SPEAKER 1 :
Oh, no.
SPEAKER 11 :

SPEAKER 03 :
He’s the happy conservative warrior. From the Relief Factor Studios, here’s Mike Gellerman.
SPEAKER 11 :
Had a long chat with my cousin Paul. I love the guy. He’s really a special person in my life, and we don’t happen to agree politically. And that’s okay. It’s not the end of the world. It’s not the end of the world to have a family member that you disagree with. And he is that rare breed of Democrat who listens to me. I listen to him. We find a little bit of common ground, not much, but at least we hear each other. At least we’re listening. And I always want to say to folks that I appreciate in my life, why are you guys so often on the wrong side of every issue? And I know that sounds probably like a jerkish thing to say. The case of Mahmoud Khalil, he was arrested by ICE. He’s at risk of being deported. He is absolutely going to face hearings, I think today, in fact, in New York. a court hearing to determine if he can be deported. He’s not a citizen, contrary to the lie that has been spread. And Democrats are rallying around this pro-Hamas agitator. Now, he argues, well, I’m not really for Hamas. I’m for the Palestinians. Do you know anything about this guy? Do you know what he represents? I’ll tell you here in just a moment. I’m going to share with you Senator Chris Murphy and what he had to say today about the case of Mahmoud Khalil. Meanwhile, inflation going down. Got a great Consumer Price Index report today. This morning, good news for the economy, as Trump promised. Charlie Kirk posted on social media, gas prices dropped for the third straight week. Egg prices are dropping like a rock. New jobs for native-born workers finally outpaced foreigners for the first time in a year. There were 10,000 new manufacturing jobs after Biden was averaged a loss of 9,000 a month. trillions of dollars in new foreign direct investment in high-tech industries and auto manufacturing. Government workers lost 10,000 jobs in February versus the last two years of Joe Biden, where one in four new jobs created under Biden were government jobs. Tariffs will cause short-term ups and downs, but they also have the potential to force huge long-term benefits. Charlie says trust the process. A made-in-America economic boom is the prize. A made-in-America economic boom is the prize. There was Trump yesterday touting an American company. You’d think the voters would love that. There was the president on the White House lawn extolling the virtues of buying American. American manufacturing, a car. Ah, but it was a Tesla that he bought. It wasn’t something else. It was a Tesla. And I just wonder how they can always be on the wrong side of every issue. And I want to tackle this. By the way, I keep forgetting to talk about Gene Hackman. I’ve got to bring that up. I was away. I was on jury duty Monday. Last weekend, it was revealed how he died and his wife died and the dog died. The strangest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. And one of the saddest stories ever. Have you heard what they ruled in his death? She died. He evidently had advanced Alzheimer’s. And this poor man apparently, and she died of exposure to feces from mice. Some bizarre type of virus that’s almost unheard of in places outside of New Mexico where they live. But in Santa Fe, I guess it’s fairly routine. And she allegedly died. She drops dead. This poor guy is walking around the house alone with Alzheimer’s. And succumbs. The dog is locked up in a crate because the dog had had a medical procedure. And evidently she, of course, was in charge of things, obviously. And they put the poor dog in the crate to recover. And Gene Hackman, with advanced Alzheimer’s, didn’t know to take the dog out of the crate. Couldn’t feed himself. Couldn’t drink any fluids. And he died. Is that not the saddest thing you’ve ever heard of in your life? And a lot of people were speculating online about, well, where are his kids? And I can relate to that. I’m sad, and it’s my fault. I don’t have as close a relationship with my children as I should have. And I regret that. I’ve got four kids and a granddaughter. And I don’t connect with them as often as I can. And I need to do better at that. And I hope that that’s a lesson. I know it’s a lesson that I’m learning. I mean, if the kids had been calling dad, they’d have found out perhaps something was terribly amiss. But they didn’t have any contact with him, apparently. What a sad, sad story that is. Let me tell you a little bit about Mahmoud Khalil. And then I want to open up the phone lines to you. Let’s talk a little bit about why Democrats get it wrong every time. Over and over again, Democrats seem to be on the wrong side of an issue. Check out Senator Chris Murphy, proud Democrat from Connecticut.
SPEAKER 06 :
A young man by the name of Mahmoud Khalil, an immigrant and a legal permanent resident of the United States, is being held right now in prison, even though no criminal charges have been filed against him. Now, I want to tell you why that should matter to every single American. Khalil is a recent graduate of Columbia University. He opposed Israel’s military operation in Gaza. He has deep animus toward Israel’s policies and the U.S. support for those policies. He helped organize the protests over Gaza at his university last year. You can disagree with his views or his politics, but there is no evidence he has broken any law. But last weekend, Trump officials entered his apartment and took him into custody. They brought him to a detention facility in New Jersey at first, but when his family went to visit him, he wasn’t there. For a while, his family and his lawyer had no idea where he was. They eventually found out that he was being held in a detention facility in Louisiana, and that’s where he still is today. In dictatorships, they call this practice being disappeared. No charges, no claims of criminal behavior. The White House doesn’t claim he did anything criminal. He’s in jail because of his political speech. And here’s why everybody should care. In America, your political speech is protected, whether or not the president likes what you say. But today, if you’re loyal to Donald Trump, your speech is going to be protected, even if it’s hate speech. You can be Marco Ellis, an employee of Doge, who said he, quote, was racist before it was cool and, quote, normalize Indian hate. And the vice president of the United States will tweet in your defense. But if you are disloyal to Trump or you’re organizing against Trump’s political agenda, your speech could be criminalized. You could find yourself in jail. Now, Trump chose to begin by disappearing a Palestinian immigrant, hoping that his place of birth and his immigrant status would just cause people to look the other way. But we cannot. Because once it becomes normal for the regime to disappear, people simply for protest against the regime’s policies. Once a citizen or a resident of America can be locked away with no charges against them simply because they protested. There is no going back for America. Even if you’re a hardened Trump supporter, this practice should cross the line for you. Even if you disagree with Khalil’s views, this practice should cross the line for you. This has nothing to do with supporting Trump. This is about supporting an American value. maybe the most important American value, protecting free speech, even if it’s speech.
SPEAKER 11 :
Turn it off. I can’t take any more of the gaslighting because that’s all that is. That’s 100% gaslighting. He hopes you won’t remember how many people lost their jobs, their livelihood, their income, even their freedom. because they got on the wrong side of the establishment. He wants to pretend that they didn’t raid Melania Trump’s underwear drawer. He wants to forget the way the justice system has been weaponized against conservatives, specifically Trump and generally conservatives. That’s all gaslighting. But let me give you some facts to refute that propaganda you just heard from Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut. If you think this is a free speech, Debate? Consider this. Mahmoud Khalil is a leader, specifically the lead negotiator, of an organization called the Columbia Union Apartheid Divest. Now, this organization has, one, celebrated the October 7th massacre of innocent men, women, and children as a, quote, political, military, and moral victory. raping women, cutting off their breasts, massacring terrified children, taking Jews hostage in some dank tunnel in Gaza. This guy believes it’s a political, military, and moral victory. The organization has stated officially violence is the only path forward. The organization said we support liberation by any means necessary, including armed resistance. The organization is called for the total eradication of Western civilization. Now look, here’s the bottom line. Chris Murphy wants to pretend this guy isn’t a green card holder. When you apply for a green card, you’re our guest. It comes with conditions. A green card doesn’t give you carte blanche to march around and celebrate the slaughter of innocent Jews. A green card doesn’t give you the right to take over colleges and universities and claim that the massacre of innocent Jews was a political, moral, and military victory. On the application form itself… Senator Murphy, and you know this, that’s why we know you’re gaslighting. On the green card application, it asks, have you ever advocated the overthrow of any government by force or violence? Have you ever advocated the overthrow of any government by force or violence? You want to know what the stated conditions for deportation is? to endorse or espouse terrorist activity or persuades others to endorse or espouse terrorist activity or supports a terrorist organization. You don’t need – this isn’t about a crime. Again, Chris Murphy knows better. This has nothing to do with criminal conviction. You don’t need a criminal conviction to be deported. When you violate the terms of your green card status – That’s sufficient. You can be upset that he’s been arrested. You can demand that we change the laws to be a green card holder. You should and expect due process. You can demand that Trump enforce this policy consistently against any green card holder, right or left wing. But you cannot say that the deportation of this young man isn’t totally and completely and thoroughly justifiable. Your turn. 800-655-MIKE. 19 past the hour. Welcome in to a Wednesday episode in the Relief Factor Studios. 800-655-6453. Join us. Call or text. Your voice is coming up.
SPEAKER 10 :

SPEAKER 13 :
Mike Gallagher.
SPEAKER 11 :
I just saw one of the funniest videos. I love it when a broadcaster loses it and they laugh uncontrollably. That’s happened to me a couple of times. This guy was a local TV anchor. It was Channel 6 from somewhere. He was trying to read a story about a pot-bellied pig that was born without rear legs. And so he’s got this contraption with wheels on it, and the anchor just loses it completely. And he can’t do the story. He’s wheezing and he’s laughing. And you see the video of this poor pig with, like, wheels for back legs. And the guy, he probably got fired. But it was worth it. That happened to me once when I had a short-lived career as a, I don’t want to even go through it. I don’t even go into it. A lot of laughter on the Patriots Alaska cruise, and it’s filling up fast. I want to remind you, the second annual Patriots Alaska cruise is August 16th through the 23rd. Larry Elder and I will be your co-hosts. You know, Seb Gorka and I hosted the first one last year. We had hundreds of people join us aboard the beautiful Holland America’s Eurodam, a great state-of-the-art cruise ship. We sailed out of Seattle. We explored Alaska together. We went whale watching. We saw bald eagles and seals. And we had great events on the ship in the beautiful world stage. And look, when these staterooms are gone, they’re gone. So book your cabin today. I think it’s about a $300 deposit to hold your stateroom because I don’t want you to miss out. Be one of the best summer vacations you ever took in your life. You’ve never experienced anything like an Alaskan cruise. Or maybe you have and you want to go back with me and Larry and Joe Piscopo from New York and Jennifer Horn from L.A. We’re going to have a world of fun. All you have to do is go to TravelWithSalem.com. That’s the website, TravelWithSalem.com. Or if you want to call Inspiration Tours directly, you want to reach a live person, here’s the number. 855-565-5519. 855-565-5519. That’s 855-565-5519. Hope to see you in Alaska. We’re going to have a great, great time together on the second annual Patriots Alaska Cruise. I want to bring in Stephen Moore. I saw him on TV this week a lot because there’s all kinds of economic news. Before we do that, though, let’s check in with CNN and see how they’re handling the news that inflation actually is going down in America.
Uh-oh.
SPEAKER 11 :
Uh-oh. What are the Trump haters? How are they going to spin this one? Stephen D. Moore is an economist and author. He’s Senior Visiting Fellow in Economics at the Heritage Foundation. Stephen, it’s great to have you back on the Mike Gallagher Show. It’s been too long. How have you been?
SPEAKER 10 :
Mike, I’ve been great, and I haven’t been able to stop smiling since the election. And this is a president who is off to an amazing start. Look, it’s been a rocky week for the stock market, no question about it. But I think Trump is right. When you need to fix things, you need the chemotherapy first, and then you fix things. And boy, I got to tell you, Mike, that what we’re discovering is how god-awful Things were when Trump entered office. I mean, the Biden wreckage of our economy was much worse than I even thought. And I’m so happy about these inflation numbers today. It means I think we’ve we’ve finally turned the corner on the massive inflation under Biden.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, it’s really ghastly the way the mainstream media will try to run from any credit to give to the Trump administration. Yeah, right. But don’t look now. But don’t look now. Gas prices have dropped for a third straight week in a row. Egg prices are dropping like a rock. New jobs for native-born workers finally outpaced foreigners for the first time in a year. Stephen, there were 10,000 new manufacturing jobs dropped. Biden was averaging a loss of $9,000 a month. You talk about the wreckage, there’s a perfect example of it.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. Now, look, I think the economy, I think you’ve got to give us three to four to five months, though. I think I think it’s going to take a while for Trump to get the economy back booming again, like he did in his first term. I got to tell you, when I look at these deficit numbers, you know, in just the last three months, Biden was in office. They spent 300 billion dollars above what they had spent the last year before, which was a record year. I think if you look at the What happened with the spending blitz, where they spent every single penny they could get their hands on. A lot of structural problems with the economy that need to be fixed. And, you know, Trump is on the job. But, you know, I remember, I think you and I, you are probably old enough to remember, too, when Reagan took over for Jimmy Carter. Yeah. You know, it took them it took them a year to fix the economy. And then we had the boom. So I just want to make sure people understand it’s going to be some rough sledding, I think, in the next couple of months before we get this economy realigned, because there was a lot of damage done under Joe Biden.
SPEAKER 11 :
Stephen, can you kind of give us a 60-second layman’s view of the tariffs and the trade war? You know, it seems to me that I’m a simple guy. I got not nearly the smarts you do when it comes to economic matters. I understand that Trump wants it to be an even playing field. He’s tired of the United States bearing the brunt of these tariffs. Isn’t that the right way to look at that? Can you kind of walk us through what these supposed trade wars look like through your eyes?
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, I’m an old-fashioned free trade guy. I knew Milton Friedman. By the way, Mike, did you know Milton Friedman?
SPEAKER 11 :
I interviewed him one time, and I can never forget it. He was one of the most amazing people on the planet. It was incredible.
SPEAKER 10 :
He was. And he was, you know, the North Star on economics, and he always believed that free trade was one of the most important things. Trump has basically put a little asterisk on this, and what he’s doing is saying, look, we’re free trade. Do you know, Mike, do you know what country in the world has the lowest tariffs? Tell me. We do. We do. By far. Yeah, we have low tariffs. And what Trump is saying is looking at, you know, how is it that we have a free trade deal with Canada, which I’m very much in favor of, but how is it that they can charge over 100% on our agriculture products?
SPEAKER 11 :
I mean, how is that free trade? That’s not free trade, but that’s what we mean by a lack of… There’s no even playing field here. They’ve got the Mexico… China, Canada, they have a leg up on us and he’s tired of it.
SPEAKER 10 :
That’s exactly right. Now, they’re shooting themselves in the foot, too, with their high tariffs. But what Trump is going to do, I believe he will succeed because one lesson I’ve learned having known Trump for the last nine years, you never bet against Donald Trump. And he is going to force these other countries to reduce their tariffs. So I believe and I honestly believe this, Mike, and you can write this down. We talked about this on what is today, March 10th or something like that. Well, the Trump is going to change the whole dynamics of trade and he’s going to force all these other countries to give us what the word you just had. That phrase is exactly the right one. A level playing field. We do not have a level playing field today. He’s going to force other countries to bring their tariffs down, which in the end of the day will lead to freer and fairer trade. And that’s what I’m in favor of. And I believe Trump will succeed here. But some of these countries are really abusive. I mean, Japan has very high tariffs against us. The Europeans, I mean, I’m sick and tired of them sanctimoniously saying Trump’s starting a trade war. Wait a minute. They’re the ones who started the trade war, not us.
SPEAKER 11 :
This is why we need some common sense perspective, and that’s what we get from the great Stephen D. Moore. Come back and visit with us often, Stephen. It’s been too long. We appreciate your perspective. Keep fighting the good fight, my friend.
SPEAKER 10 :
Thank you. We’re going to win.
SPEAKER 11 :
I promise. I know we are. Oh, no, I’m with you. It’s hard to stop smiling, and we have to, and we’ve got to explain it better, and we’ve got to find some common ground here. It’s possible, but the truth can and will prevail.

Mike Gallagher. Every day, Mike visits with Mark Davis, morning host on 660 AM The Answer in Dallas. Here’s today’s Eminem experience.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right, so let’s look at the world we’re in, the country we’re in. Let’s look at March 2025. About a year ago, Joe Biden was nagging us all to buy electric cars. and shaming people who didn’t. That’s right. The left, of course, was very proud of their Tesla. They loved their Tesla. They loved their S. They loved their Plaid. They loved their Model 3, their Y, their X. They just, they were enamored with all, hey, yo, look at us. Look at us with our EVs.
SPEAKER 12 :
Look at how… And if you didn’t want one, you wanted the planet to die.
SPEAKER 11 :
You were a Neanderthal. You were an absolute cretin. You were a total, or as Zeb Gorka calls them, cretin. You were a cretin. Now, yesterday, Trump rolls out a whole lot. Trump and Elon are on the lawn of the White House with the line of every model make of Tesla. Trump picks out a shiny red S model, the plaid, and he stands there and does a commercial for Tesla. And conservatives everywhere now are buying Teslas. Hannity bought one yesterday. Everybody’s buying a Tesla. This isn’t a year. Now, here’s the question. Did Elon Musk stop becoming smart? Did Elon Musk stop his genius and his innovation and his ingenuity all of a sudden? No. Why do they hate him? And I tried to go on that exercise yesterday, and you were right. They hate Musk because he’s playing for the other team. He switched sides. That’s all it is. That’s all it is. And all of the brilliance of Elon Musk is still there. All of the ingenuity, the smarts, the wherewithal. The guy’s a genius and one of the most successful businessman.
SPEAKER 12 :
I don’t know, Mike, if you’re up for a 600-page book or a biography or something, but Walter Isaacson, the guy needs to give me a kickback. Walter Isaacson’s bio of Elon, which dropped circa 2023, so it doesn’t involve sort of his political shift toward Trump, but it does involve his purchase of X. All the Tesla, all the SpaceX, all the Starlink, all the everything, all the back to PayPal. First of all, juvenile insults are their stock in trade. When they hate somebody, they come after you with a juvenile insult. And they’re using the current headaches of a couple of launch failures, a couple of Tesla recalls. Well, maybe he’s just not that smart. This guy is a capital G genius. He walks the floor of these factories and just sees things and says, no, you know, I think that rocket fin needs to be designed in a certain different way. And it suddenly makes it more efficient and makes launches less expensive. The guy, he just has this massive brain that is, it’s incredible. He’s one of the most amazing. I was talking the other day, and this might be kind of a dorm room parlor game. Is Elon Musk the most important private sector person? Like in American history, like Henry Ford. How funny it’s all car guys. I don’t know who the I don’t know who’d be on the list of the most the most vital private sector people in the history of America. He’s got to be on that Mount Rushmore.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, this is it. I mean, and I’m I’m hoping there’s a day that comes and I have to be very blunt here, Mark. I don’t. I know this probably doesn’t bother you, the volatility, all the weeping and gnashing of teeth. I don’t like it. I wish we could get people to see things a little bit more reasonably. I got a newsflash. Firebombing Tesla dealerships is not discourse. The reaction from the loony left is getting so out of control. The death threats, the violence. I talked about this yesterday, and I’m still waiting for the mainstream media to cover one of the chief writers for Alex Jones’ InfoWars, who was shot dead outside of his apartment right after he tweeted that liberals have become violent. there’s atmosphere bernie sanders yesterday said this is and whatever you think of bernie sanders he is he is authentic you know what i mean i i respect that about him i’m not rosie o’donnell you know what good for her you threatened to leave the country if trump got elected went to ireland right she went to ireland okay good good i hope they love you over there you know All right. Well, she did. I mean, now I wonder if she’ll, you know, renounce her citizenship to the United States. We’ll see. I kind of doubt that. But hey, all right. Good. Bernie Sanders, same way. He’s a socialist. He’s who he is. He said yesterday we’re living in his lifetime. It’s the scariest period of time that he’s ever experienced as an American. It’s the most frightening period of time he’s ever experienced. And Mark, this is how they feel. They really do. I don’t think it’s fake. I don’t think it’s a manufactured fear. I think that they believe that we’re going through the darkest times. Let me share why I believe this. One of my most favorite people in the world is my cousin, Paul. And I don’t want to ever, you know, get too specific about family and friends and everything, but he is, you would love him. Mark, you would love this guy. And he’s been in my life since the day I was born. And he is a dedicated Democrat. He’s not hard left. He’s the kind of Democrat that you and I could have a conversation with. We used to have. That’s right. And he and I have it fairly regularly. And, of course, he hates Trump with every, but he’s not, you know, blind about it. He just, he believes that the reason Trump is, in his view, corrupt is is that Trump fails to respect the institutions the way presidents normally do. That’s what he doesn’t like. He said, for example, Richard Nixon, for all of his corruption, had the decency to resign. Trump would never, ever get to that point. And that’s his belief. And I’m just sharing, don’t shoot the messenger. I’m just telling you what my… Weird comparison, but okay. It is. And I told him that. But he made the comment, he said, it is scary because people are dying. I said, what do you mean people are dying? Who’s dying? What do you mean? He’s talking about, of course, USAID. And he’s saying that they’re not getting in parts of the world that they should be getting to. And you know what? We’ve known this. Wheat and chaff. There’s going to be some pain here. We’re going to face some economic pain. There probably will be some negative repercussions to yanking the court on USAID or abolishing the Department of Education. People are losing their jobs. You know, but you can’t say, oh, and my cousin Paul, my beloved cousin Paul, admits there’s way too much waste and excess government spending.
SPEAKER 12 :
And we don’t have the money. We don’t have the money to do all of these things. And it’s our money.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. It’s that’s the thing. It’s not somebody else’s money. But, you know, he and I just we do find common ground on a lot of things. And I just kind of I’m not trying to be squishy here. And I’m sure there’s people who know Mike’s getting all mushy in his old age and he’s going to be 65 next month and he’s going to. I’m not. I just I mean, this isn’t sustainable, is it, Mark? Can we be at each other’s throats like this for the next four years?
SPEAKER 12 :
Probably not in the way that a country can’t remain on a war footing forever. Maybe America can’t remain on a war footing with each other forever. However, if what what does it look like for this to get better for the left to realize they have genuinely lost and to just simply come at us with better stuff for the Democrat Party to change its way back to the era of.
SPEAKER 11 :
of kennedy and scoop jackson and joe lieberman and not be as insane i don’t see that happening either so i think for the well and can i and can i make this baked in and can i say can i make a controversial observation it’ll probably get me in trouble but you know what also it will take we gotta we gotta listen to their side a little more we ought to listen too. You know, we ought to acknowledge and respect that they lost, they’re miserable, they’ve got fears, they’ve got concerns, and it’s up to us, I believe, I don’t want to sound condescending here, but we got to spell out what does tariff equity look like? All Trump wants with tariffs is an even playing field. He’s not trying to pick a war with Canada.
SPEAKER 12 :
Then I would edit your thought only respectfully in the following way. Who’s not listening? I’ve been listening to them my entire stinking life.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, I got it. You’re right. I know. You’re right. What we need to do a better job of is explaining. Explaining. Messaging. Because they sure don’t like to listen to us. So you’re absolutely right. This is the kind of magic you’ll get at your favorite restaurant. With food. With food. With food. There you go. With food and maybe some song and dance. Who knows? Maybe I’ll entertain. I know. We’ll do a soft shoe. But tomorrow is the day. Tomorrow is the big day.
SPEAKER 12 :
So be ready to go.
