In this episode, John Rush hands the mic to Andy Pate to explore the complexities of political loyalty and open primaries. The episode features Eli Bremer, who shares his passionate views on the direction of the Republican Party in Colorado. Listen in as they break down the contentious nature of open primaries versus closed systems and what these mean for the future of elections. The episode also covers the assumptions and strategies behind voting and the impact it has on local and national politics.
SPEAKER 09 :
This is Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 08 :
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes.
SPEAKER 09 :
With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 06 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did. Get a job, sir. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 01 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 12 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 09 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 07 :
Actually, it’s Andy Pate, party of choice. And welcome to our number two here on Rush to Reason, KLZ 560. I’m Andy Pate filling in for John Rush on the line right now. We have Eli Bremer. Eli, I need to ask you a quick question here before we get started. Is it true that everywhere you go in life, even at the mall or in swimming pools, you are dressed like Darth Vader?
SPEAKER 05 :
That is true. I don’t know how you found that out, Andy, but that is totally not a lie.
SPEAKER 07 :
This is what I’ve heard about you and it must be very hot in the summer.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, it is. It is. Does it mess with your golf swing? You’ve got to wear the outfit. Does it mess with your golf swing? No, not really. I can play bad golf regardless of how I’m dressed. Oh, very good.
SPEAKER 07 :
You’re very talented. Okay, Eli, this hour, for the most part, we’re going to be talking about the open primaries. And as people know, I voted against open primaries, okay? I prefer closed primaries. I believe that only Republicans should choose Republican candidates, ideally. However… Open primaries were voted in largely by unaffiliated voters. We’ll get to that later. This is the number one issue in the Colorado Republican Party. We have seen the, I call them Davidians, the people who follow the loyal supporters of Dave Williams. And before you say, Andy, that’s such a derogatory way to put it, Davidians. The reason I call them that is because they follow blindly when they can’t defend him. on any concern you raise about them, they can’t defend. They run away. To me, when you have blind loyalty to something, that’s religious. That’s cult-like. That’s why I call them Davidians. Anyway, they believe that we must opt out, as they call it. I would call it canceling the primary. But they believe we need to opt out of the primary. and that we should just go to a closed primary. And all across the state, the Davidians are overwhelming these county reorganization meetings. They did it in several counties here in the Denver area. And as a result, they’re packing the voting list of those who are going to vote for our next state chair coming up here soon at the state reorg meeting. I’m getting to a point here. This is a big deal. This is a very big deal. Because if Dave Williams or one of his sycophants is like Darcy Shaining is made into the state chair again, we will very possibly be opting out or canceling the primary altogether. We will leave the open primary. That’s going to have some huge effects. Now, before we even get into that, though, we’ll get into that in the next segment. I just wanted to tee it up. First, I know a lot of people are thinking this is just going to be a bash fest on Dave Williams. Actually, no, but I do want to respond to the brag fest that’s been put out by Dave and the state party. You mentioned it earlier today when we talked on the phone. What were they talking about?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, Andy, I think it’s, first of all, let’s just stop and pause for a second and ponder where our country is over the last month and who’s really responsible for why it’s there. I mean… Immigration has basically been fixed. The border is effectively shut down and the war in Israel is coming to a rapid end. And I think any clear thinking American would look at the evidence and say, without any doubt whatsoever, we can declare that this was all because of Kamala Harris, because last summer, Kamala Harris. jumped into the presidential race, and we had the border was out of control, and we had no end in sight on the war against Israel. And today, after Kamala Harris jumped into the presidential race, now, granted, her policies were exactly the opposite of Donald Trump’s, which have been in effect for the last month. But she’s an inspirational figure. But Andy, I think any logical person would stop and say, for sure, it was Kamala Harris that got the border shut down, for sure. Now, obviously, I’m saying that a little bit tongue-in-cheek, because there is a proliferation for the folks that are not deep involved in the very corrupt Republican Party organization, different from the actual Republican Party. You and I and your listeners, they’re part of the Republican Party. What we have in this in this state is a party organization that’s been taken over by charlatans and shysters. And they are claiming that Republicans won in November in Colorado because of their actions. Now, what were their actions? Their actions were attacking those Republicans. They spent party resources going after Gabe Evans, Jeff Crank, Jeff Hurd. they did everything in their power to try to prevent those people from getting elected. In fact, had the Davidians had their way, then then Huckie and Jeffries would be the speaker of the House. Yes. And so and we’ll get into that, by the way, in the next segment.
SPEAKER 07 :
But go ahead.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right. So so I think we have to start by saying that it’s a good backdrop to talk about canceling the primary and denying Republican voters their right to choose their candidates. by just saying how out of touch the absurd group that has taken over the party organization actually is, that they are claiming that by campaigning against our own candidates, that they should be given credit for those very same candidates for Gabe Evans, Jeff Hurd, Jeff Frank, and the Republicans in the statehouse who are bravely now defending against some of the worst legislation we’ve ever seen in Colorado, that they should be given credit for it.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, Eli, and let me put it in their way really quick here, because people just hear us bashing away. Okay, here’s how they put it. They say, we have finally turned the corner. We finally, look, we got… four seats now we got four u.s house seats where we we didn’t have that before under the leadership of people like christy burton brown and so forth we were just going downhill downhill it was nothing but endless losses we finally got a fourth uh u.s house member and look at this we finally added three seats i think it was three at the state level and we had a little bit of a bump we finally after going down down down to registration we got a little bit of a bump here’s the thing And they say, we finally turned the corner after all these years of failure. You finally have some success. Obviously, it’s because of us. Nothing else could possibly have happened but us doing this. And let me just give a little bit of the context. This is really quick. Takes about 30, 40 seconds. Number one, this was a national red wave. Donald, you have to look at the context of how did you perform in the context of the biggest red wave we’ve seen in a generation. Here we go. Donald Trump increased his margin versus the Democrats since 2020 by 6.2% nationwide. He improved by 6.2% nationwide. Here in Colorado, you only improved by 2.5%. That means we actually lost nearly 60% of the national red wave. And for those who say, well, that’s because we’re a blue state. No, actually, four out of the top five states where Trump advanced the most were the bluest states. California, New York, Illinois and New Jersey. All right. So, no, the blue state thing doesn’t we actually should have been fertile territory for advancing more. So first, we lost about 60 percent of the national blue wave. Second, in a year when Kamala Harris failed to flip a single district in the entire nation. We only gained a tiny handful of seats. That’s bad, folks. That’s not good. And third, Republican registration. You want to hear great news. Republican registration nationwide. We have we have gained eight points on the Democrats registration. since 2021. Think about this for a moment. Near the end of 2021, the Democrats were ahead of us by six points nationally in registration. We are now ahead of them by two points. That’s a gain of eight points. That’s not a bump, folks. That’s a massive surge nationwide. Meanwhile, here in Colorado, have we gained at all against the Democrats? I think just maybe a fraction of 1%. In other words… We underperformed because of everything you just said, Eli, with our state party campaigning against its own candidates, which, by the way, no other state party in the entire country did. We underperformed dramatically one of the greatest red waves of our lifetime. Eli, am I missing anything?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, you’re not missing anything. And unless you want to give Joe Biden credit for all of the bounce back jobs that came after we had shut down during covid.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
And then the jobs came back. You know, obviously, anybody who has any business experience would be able to look at this and say this is a total farce. And and again, as we start talking about, should we trust these people to take away your listeners right to vote on their own candidates? This is who these people are. These are they try to couch themselves and say, we’re the MAGA people. The reality of it is these are the same people that tried to prevent Donald Trump from getting the nomination eight years ago. I mean, quite literally, it’s the same people. And they call people like you and me rhinos for supporting that crazy guy, Donald Trump.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, because at the time, the same group was aligned with Ted Cruz, who, by the way, I love. But they went too far. They were not wanting to support the nominee, who was Donald Trump. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 05 :
These are people who have been passed over for administration jobs because, frankly, Donald Trump demands that people be highly qualified. And they would denounce people like Elon Musk and Kelly Loeffler and call them the establishment when those are the people that Donald Trump is surrounding himself with. So we don’t have a MAGA crew here running the state party. You have a corrupt group of flunkies. who, you know, if you put them all in a room together, none of them have ever started, run, or succeeded in business. So, you know, it’s very not who Trump is, and it’s just patently absurd when you look at it and they say, well, we should get credit for Gabe Evans and Jeff Hurd winning their congressional seats when they quite literally campaigned. Call up Gabe Evans and Jeff Hurd and ask them if they did any help. Call up… the House minority leader and say, how much did they contribute? And all they contributed was harassment.
SPEAKER 07 :
Eli, we don’t have to call them. They all signed a letter along with Lauren Boebert saying the state party leadership was no help at all, saying that they were an obstacle, not a help, and saying that they were corrupt and needed to be thrown out. So no, we don’t have to ask. They already said, OK, after the break, we’re going to jump into the primaries because I guarantee you there I have been challenging people all across the state to listen today. And anyone who supports Dave Williams and believes that we need to get out of the open primary. Look, I I sympathize with that. I really do. Eli, I understand the feeling of having people who are not Republicans help choose my Republican candidates. I don’t like that. I would prefer a closed primary. And when I was at my reorganization meeting in Arapahoe County, and there was this long string of people going up to campaign to be bonus members, and they all get 15 to 30 second little speech times, right? All the Dave supporters said this. We must close the primary. We must close the primary. We need a closed primary. It’s got to be a closed primary. That group has seized power. in county parties across the entire state based on closing the primary. And they’re going to go to the state reorganization meeting and vote for Dave or one of his sycophants for the purpose of closing the primary. And all I’m asking for everybody to do is this. I want you to listen today as we discuss the consequences. of trying to close the primary. Can’t we at least be honest about the consequences? Can we at least look in the pool and make sure there’s water there before we jump? Is that fair enough, Eli? I think that sounds great. Okay, let’s do that after the break. Up next is veteran windows and doors. Hey, no one matches high quality with Colorado’s altitude and climate like veteran. For windows and doors that last, call veteran at 303-529-0720.
SPEAKER 12 :
Veteran Windows and Doors knows that when you’re feeling cold drafts near your windows, that means your windows are likely failing. Cold air seeping through and ice in between your window panes are just a couple of signs that your windows aren’t functioning as they should. When windows are installed incorrectly or the windows are not properly engineered for your area, the mechanics of your home will start to decline. This causes your home to not maintain the temperature inside and makes your HVAC system work overtime, increasing your energy costs. Veteran Windows and Doors guarantees the windows they install are up to code and engineered for your area, so you can be confident your windows will work. Veteran makes sure every window is weather tight, meaning the window is sealed and properly flashed so that no weather ever gets inside. SPEAKER 17 :
Putting reason into your afternoon drive, this is John Rush.
SPEAKER 07 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason. Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Andy Pate filling in for John Rush. We’re talking to Eli Bremer, otherwise known as Darth Rhino. Darth Rhino, who, you know, secretly loves open primaries and wants to disenfranchise all those wonderful grassroots Republicans and make their votes worth nothing and impose unaffiliated voters voting on their primaries. Is that what you’re all about?
SPEAKER 05 :
You know, I think so. I think it’s time for me to just come out of the closet and admit that. You know, Andy, I was actually doing some research there on the break, and I know it’s very establishment, rhino-ish to actually look at facts, but I went back to the last couple of elections, and I am… And I went back both to 2024 and then back to 2016, and I looked at states. There’s about 20 states that have open primaries for president. Do you want to take a guess at which candidate resoundingly won in both 2016 and 2024 states that had open primaries? Who? I’ll give you a hint. It’s an extreme rhino candidate. His name is Donald Trump. Oh, yeah. Donald Trump was largely delivered the Republican nomination by states that had open primaries. And so one of the things that the Davidians are saying is that, you know, that that open primaries actually Ted Cruz won a couple of the other ones in 2016. He’s also a rhino that that these deliver, you know, fake Republicans and. and terrible people, and at least there’s consistency, because in 2016, the same crew that basically controls the state party organization now, we didn’t have an open primary in 2016, and Donald Trump got zero votes out of Colorado. Okay, so I think it’s important when you start the conversation about open primaries to show this is a false flag. It is. So regardless of how you feel about them, empirically, demonstrably, I can tell you. If you like Donald Trump, if the last five weeks have just been a dream come true, and I tell you, it’s like going to Disney, except for I actually really enjoy this more than Disney, waking up every day and just checking Fox News and just giggling and saying, oh my gosh, this is amazing. Okay, if you like that, thank open primaries, because Donald Trump was rejected by the Republican establishment. I worked on the Trump campaign in 2015. I was called a rhino for working with Donald Trump. And let’s just put that down out there, that this is a false statement how open primaries work. So there are people that have philosophical problems with them. I think you and I both have philosophical problems with them. But we actually don’t have a practical problem. Open primaries do not deliver squishy Republicans. Open primaries gave us Donald Trump, who, you know, I believe now has disrupted the political system and delivered more for the conservative cause than even Ronald Reagan did when he won.
SPEAKER 07 :
OK, and let me jump in here for a moment. I’m going to give a few things that happen if we were to, quote unquote, opt out. Now, it’s actually canceling the primary, but I’m going to leave that for you, OK? So let me just go with their wording for now. here are the things that happen if we were let’s say we were to opt out of the primary the open primary okay first of all if it weren’t for colorado’s open primary trump would not have the u.s house majority today okay this is not actually debatable this is a guarantee the state party endorsed candidates in cd3 cd5 and cd8 and all those candidates won at assembly okay that the state party wanted all of them were destroyed in the open primaries Now, had the state party’s choices become our candidates, we absolutely would have lost CD3 and CD8, guaranteed. And I can go through the numbers. It would take too much time. I don’t want to take that time away from you, Eli. Andy, quick correction.
SPEAKER 05 :
We also would have lost CD5s. And that’s what I was getting to.
SPEAKER 07 :
And we likely would have lost CD5 because our candidate in CD5 would have been Dave Williams, a guy who told all Colorado Republicans to burn pride flags, which we don’t own. So he was telling us to burn other people’s property, which is a crime. And by the way, he’s one of the most hated political figures across the state outside of his group. And. We had a great candidate there, Jeff Crank, who won by, I believe, 14.1 points. That’s what it was last I saw. You can wipe all that away if you put Dave Williams in there. So we very likely would have lost all three. There goes the House majority. All of a sudden, just because of open primaries, Trump has a Democrat run house. If we don’t have them, if it instead had gone through assemblies or had gone with the endorsements of the state party. Let me do the other two really quick because then I want to turn it over to you. All right. Number two, the open primary was voted in by a large majority of unaffiliated voters. You voters, I call them you voters. They comprise about half the state’s voters, and they’re the group we most need to reach to win. That’s our market. That’s reality. That is fact. Okay, it’s fact. And opting out sends a clear message that half the state’s voters. And as John Rush puts it, it says, get off our lawn. Now, there’s no sugarcoating this reality. They try to avoid this reality. They try to sugarcoat it. They try to ignore the fact that’s the message you’re going to send. Half the state’s voters will be welcomed by Democrats and thrown out by Republicans. And it would be a publicity nightmare. The Democrats who just run ads, it’s easy. The ads write themselves. OK, here’s the ad. They can say, Democrats have a message for Colorado’s unaffiliated voters. And you just show a picture of a welcome mat. But Republicans have this message. Show a picture of get off our lawn. We want you in our primary. They want you out. Well, at least one Colorado party likes you. Game, set, match, done. And here’s the last thing. Opting out converts your tax dollars into free advertising for the Democrat party. Here’s how. You see, again, this is just reality. It’s fact. It’s not debatable, folks. If we opt out, then all the states you voters will still receive primary ballots. Millions of voters are going to receive those ballots anyway, but with only Democrat names. So they’re going to receive literature with just Democrat names. And your tax dollars are paying for it. And all the unaffiliated voters in the state are going to spend the entire primary season having no reason to go to Republican websites with Republican candidates and learning about Republican ways. Nothing. It’ll cut us completely out of the process and your tax dollars are going to pay for it. Go ahead, Eli.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, additionally, by the way, without a primary, you have a different level of financing, which means that the Democrats can raise pre-primary financing and Republicans would effectively be crippled on that.
SPEAKER 07 :
Now, people, really quick here, because this gets to you, people on the other side say, well, we’ll have a primary. We’re just going to have a closed primary. You see, that’s the ideal. Now, I want you to explain why that is logistically impossible.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, well, it’s if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. I feel like someone once said that, and I feel like there were a lot of people that said, wait a second, you’re lying. Let me tell you something. Three weeks ago, the corrupt state Republican Party tried to change the bylaws, like good little dictators. to enshrine their power forever. Now, there was a queen rhino who got on. I think we can all agree she’s a rhino. Her name is Lauren Boebert. She got on to obstruct this. And so, of course, she got named on Rhino Watch for having the audacity to stand up and say, this is a farce.
SPEAKER 07 :
And really quick here, really quick here, for those who don’t know, Rhino Watch is the voice piece for, they’re the voice of the state party. They are the state party. Go ahead. It’s a couple of flunkies, Chuck and Julie.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, Chuck and Julie, and they can’t, you know, no one will hire them anywhere, so they got this little blog thing, and then they tried to hide it, and then everybody knew it was them. So anyway, so… In the process of this, they could not hold a meeting with 400 people. OK, 400, 400. OK, in El Paso County, where I live, we have about 100,000 people that participate in the Republican primary. OK, so the state party was unable to hold a vote of 400. We had our central committee meeting for El Paso County a couple weeks ago, and that was just about 400 also. And they failed to be able to finish a meeting in 12 hours. Right. The idea, in the same way that when Barack Obama said, if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor, in what alternate universe is that true? An organization that cannot figure out how to conduct a meeting, and they have to stop the meeting and adjourn it after an hour and a half of failing to bring the meeting to order. But they’re going to hold it primary for the million voters in the state. Okay, if you believe that, I got some great oceanfront property right out the back door here in Colorado I’d love to sell because that is nonsensical.
SPEAKER 07 :
It is nonsensical. Right now, our tax dollars pay for the state to conduct our primaries for us. We’re paying for this. Okay, so if we get out of it, the state party has to come up with the money to put together its own complete. And people think, oh, that’s easy. We’ll just have the votes. It’s just like you don’t understand. I want you, Eli, to explain some of the costs involved.
SPEAKER 05 :
So you have to, in El Paso County, I did an analysis, and I was called a rhino because I did what I would do in any business. I did a feasibility analysis. To have 100,000 people, it’s really complex math, but if you have 10 facilities, then 10,000 have to go through each one. I know it’s complicated, okay? When I actually said, all right, if we kept the facility open for 12 hours, we would have to have 14 people per minute going through a facility. Each of those facilities probably cost around $30,000 to rent for the day. So $300,000 there. There’s probably about another $100,000 of printing. That’s $400,000. I don’t know what our local party did last year in revenue. My guess is around $40,000. So they had approximately one-tenth of the money. required just for the hard costs of of running this yeah what about what about legal what about legal what about legal oversight to make sure that it is that there’s no cheating that you can who needs andy andy andy who needs legal oversight uh yeah right because because because there goes election integrity self-promoting political people yeah i mean it’s so look let’s be real honest here i’ve i’ve overseen the caucus system in largest county in the state I’m an expert on a lot of the caucus systems. I wrote my master’s degree thesis on the Colorado caucus system. I studied these things. To say we have election integrity problems in Colorado is a gross understatement. I want to be really clear. We have huge election integrity problems, and virtually every last piece of it involves the caucus system. If you want to find a place with massive amounts of fraud, look at the caucus system. And and so the idea that a you can feasibly run a closed primary by the party is logistically laughable. And by the way, getting on your butt, they know what to get on your bicycle and biking to the moon. One hundred percent. They know it. They know this.
SPEAKER 07 :
They know that they cannot. But at all these reorganization meetings, they’re not talking about, we’ll choose our candidates through assembly. That’s not what they’re expecting, Eli. The Davidians are all expecting to have a closed primary statewide run by our party. And the state party leadership knows there is no way. Logistically, they can do it. That’s why we pay huge tax dollars to run this. And basically, it’s the same as you can keep your doctor.
SPEAKER 05 :
Andy, you have a better chance of getting on a bicycle and riding to the moon and back than you would of the state party pulling this off. Well, I’m in pretty good shape. Well, okay. I mean, maybe you have a better chance. But with my little Darth Vader outfit, it’s really hard to bike. Very hard. So you hit the nail on the head. So what is this about? What they want to do is they want to cancel the primary. Yes. And then they want to handpick the candidates.
SPEAKER 07 :
And why do they want to cancel the primary and handpick the candidates?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, for a very simple reason, is their candidates are terrible human beings who voters soundly reject every time.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. And let me remind people, if people say, oh, no, you’re just saying that. Oh, really? In CD3, CD5 and CD8, the state party endorsed candidates in the primary. lost by an average of 33% across those three districts. And by the way, they would have lost Donald Trump, the U.S. House. But in the assemblies for all three of those, the state party candidates won. So if the candidates were chosen just for assembly, guess what? Dave Williams would be your candidate in CD5, not Jeff Crank.
SPEAKER 05 :
But he wouldn’t be the congressman because he can’t get elected. He’d lose. But, you know, what you have to remember here is for these folks, what they’re not concerned about is Donald Trump, okay? Despite wrapping themselves in the Donald Trump flag, these are not Trump people. Trump would never hire him. He hasn’t. Most of them have tried to get jobs there and been laughed out of the room. Look, look, look, look.
SPEAKER 07 :
Trump, Trump. Really quick here, Eli, because we’ve got to go to break. Trump, here’s the biggest difference. Trump has done nothing but broaden the party. We have Tulsi Gabbard. We have RFK. We have all these people who here in Colorado would just be called rhinos and thrown out the door. We have so many people. Elon Musk would be a rhino all the way. Look at his personal beliefs. We have so many people who would be called rhinos here with the Colorado Republican Party and thrown right out the door. If they were here, they wouldn’t they wouldn’t get through the purity test. He broadens the base. They have literally come right out and said they want to purge it of all dissenting voices. By the way, that’s a quote. It’s a pretty close quote. I’m paraphrasing. I haven’t read it in a while. They want to purge it. They are the opposite of the MAGA movement.
SPEAKER 05 :
Andy, here’s the point, though. We don’t have to guess. In Colorado, we know they don’t pick the winners and losers. They just pick the losers, okay? And the voters have soundly rejected them. If you like Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker of the House, if you think Mike Johnson is just a rhino and rhinos are the problem, great. The Colorado Republican Party has a solution. They’d love to hand you Hakeem Jeffries.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes. OK, we’re going to go to break when we come back. I have invited and begged and pleaded all the Dave supporters across the state. And by the way, that includes Dave Hope, all of them. They have an open invitation. Call in if you want us to try to get to close the primaries. If you believe we can do this or need to do this. I want you to call in, 303-477-5600. SPEAKER 09 :
Call in to the KLZ studio line, 303-477-5600. Now, back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 07 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, Andy Pate filling in for John Rush. On the line, we got Eli Bremmer. And really quick here, folks, I just want you to know, The leaders of the state party and their close lieutenants, I guarantee they all or a great deal of them know about this show. I was challenging all of them on their pages. to call in and debate us, take us on, make your case, because all of their supporters who now run the state party across the state because they’ve overwhelmed these groups, they’re in charge. All of their supporters believe they’re going to get a closed primary out of this. And I will put them to the front of the line, but first we got to talk to Todd Watkins because none of them called. Todd, you’re on right now.
SPEAKER 04 :
Eli and I know Dave well enough that we could probably synthesize kind of a debate with a straw man, Dave. Well, do your best.
SPEAKER 07 :
Give me one good point that they would offer for their side.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, you guys covered it, but they know it’s all wrong. So first, I want to correct a record on something. Gabe Evans won the assembly for CDH.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, you’re right. I’m sorry. I was thinking three and five. My bad.
SPEAKER 04 :
The rest of it is off track.
SPEAKER 07 :
They still endorsed against him.
SPEAKER 04 :
They did. They did. They violated their own bylaw and their own resolution that they passed at the assembly to support the assembly-nominated candidates. They failed to do that. Good point. number the real reason and we really need to hammer on this they’re not going to close the primary they’re going to cancel it there is not going to be a republican primary there’s not going to be a republican primary uh… operated by the republican party that was uh… that was kind of a fever dream it would be it’s not going to come to fruition for all of the point that you i made it’s just it’s understandable it it It actually probably has legal problems, legal challenges, because the statute says that thou shalt nominate through the assembly if you cancel your primary. So you have to go through assembly. But the real reason that the COGOP wants to cancel the primary is because of a side effect of canceling the primary is and that is removing petition candidates from the equation. So then… their hand-picked candidates, you’re describing that absolutely correctly, would be the only ones to get through the assembly because they’ll be able to control the assembly.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right, and by the way, for those who don’t know, Todd, because there could be people listening from Wyoming or elsewhere, this affects you because it affects your U.S. House. That means no Jeff Crank. That means no Jeff Hurd. That means those two seats right off the bat are in Democrat hands, okay? And Donald Trump doesn’t have a Republican House, okay? This is what they want. They know they can’t have a closed primary. And by the way, I would love a closed primary. Two problems, number one, what you guys are saying, they can’t have one. And I’m gonna go to Eli here in a moment. Number one, they can’t have one. It’s not going to work, okay, logistically and financially. But number two, even if you did pull it off somehow, you’d still be dealing with the fact that your taxes are paying for free advertising for the Democrat Party statewide. And you’ve told half the state voters, get off my lawn, while the other side is saying, welcome, not good. Eli, what do you think?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, but it’s a moot point because it’s not what they want to do. Okay, so let’s just be really clear here. What they want to do is they want to cancel the primary. That’s what they’re actually talking about doing. And they want to put their friends and cronies in. And yes, Todd is actually correct. Gabe did win the assembly in CD8. Now, in that situation, they recruited Janik Joshi. He’s actually a neighbor of mine. He lives about 100 miles from the district, and he lives down here. They put him in at the last minute. However, I do believe that if they canceled the primary, there would be a move to sort of rig the caucus. And they would just get their person in, you know, who they chose. We’ve already seen this again. We don’t have to.
SPEAKER 07 :
Really quick here, Eli, without a primary, a primary is a group of up to a million Colorado Republicans. That’s a group they cannot overwhelm and control. They want little things that they can overwhelm and control with their numbers. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 05 :
And let’s talk about CDA where Gabe Evans won, okay? That was a mistake that they’re working on rectifying, okay? So that’s Weld County, predominantly Weld County. Weld County held their central committee meeting where they elected 23 out of 24 people to the state central committee. So it’s about 5% of the entire state central committee. opposed to the current corrupt regime. They didn’t like that, so they decided election integrity doesn’t mean that you vote correctly and everything, we honor the vote. It means that if you don’t get the result you want, that you go back and you try to rig the system. So Dave Williams, Darcy Shaining, the whole corrupt crew at the state party, they actually went back to Welk County and said, we’re going to sue you because we believe that we should get to decide who your own precinct leaders are, which they have no legal ability to. They can recommend a precinct leader, but they are not allowed to force under state law. And so they’re making basically what’s happening now is Welk County is having to go back and vote again Because they got it wrong the first time. Okay, so even in Weld County, where they’ve had a bit of common sense, the corrupt leadership of the state party has made it very clear, the voters are not allowed to decide. If you are not one of the unelected political leaders of the state, you do not get to decide who the candidates are. They get to pick their political cronies. I mean, you look at who these people are. You know, Darcy Cheney, who’s running in Dave Williams’ place, very close ally. She has a long arrest record. She was just down with Joe Altman, who’s like a wannabe domestic terrorist. He keeps on saying we should execute all these political people and stuff like that. You know, there’s a reason Republicans and Democrats and unaffiliates are rejecting these people, because they’re terrible people. And so because they can’t get through the primary, they’ve said, well, let’s cut the Republican primary voter out. All of your listeners who have common sense, who pay their bills, who take care of their families, we don’t want them picking the candidates. We want corrupt insiders to pick our candidates so that just because you’ve had a criminal record and you can’t get elected normally – that you shouldn’t be prohibited from being the Republican standard bearer.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, this is why they hate petition candidates, because they can come from anywhere. They want only insiders and activists to choose our candidates through the assembly process. And by the way, I don’t think everybody who goes to assembly is a bad person. I think there’s a lot of wonderful people there, but it’s a tiny group. It’s a fraction of a fraction of 1% of Colorado Republicans. It doesn’t represent the whole petitions candidates draw from the other 99%.
SPEAKER 05 :
But don’t forget that the state party has now made it very clear that if those people don’t vote the way they want them to, look at Wells County, they’re going to go back and say, nope, we reject this. So even the people, the well-intended people that go out and try to participate in the process, let me tell you very clearly, your voice does not matter. The corrupt people in charge, if you vote the way that they don’t like, They will simply remove you, and you don’t have to guess. You can read about it. That’s what they’re doing today.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay, now Josh is on the line, but we’ve got to wait until after the break because I’m going to give him time, and I’m going to put him to the front of the line here. Okay, what now? Okay, and Todd, I’m sorry I’m going to have to let you go. Thanks for coming on, all right?
SPEAKER 18 :
Thanks, Andy.

SPEAKER 09 :
Listen online, klzradio.com. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 07 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, Andy Pate filling in for John Rush. Really quick here before we go to our next caller. We did have a caller call in who wanted to represent the other side, which I would gladly allow. However, this caller happens to be someone who is the only caller in the history of this show. who has been banned by John Rush. Okay? Sorry. I’m not going to override. This is John Rush’s show, folks. I cannot override John Rush. And by the way, I believe he made an excellent decision banning this person because of this person’s conduct. Okay, on the line right now, though, maybe we’ve got somebody who can represent the other side. You will be treated well. This is Josh in Colorado Springs. Go ahead, Josh.
SPEAKER 18 :
Hi, can you hear me okay? I can’t. Right on, Rush. Eli, good to hear from you guys. I’m representing the Colorado Republican Assembly. I really like the argument that we had here, the talk that we had here, because at first, for me, I was more along the lines of having to opt in to be able to go and have a close primary. But now I think that’s not a good option just because of what that’s going to do to the party. It’s not going to be that inclusive and could potentially lead to, you know, not having given voters that choice and not empowering independent voters. I mean, not be able to go and reduce like that partisan polarization by having that type of primary. So I appreciate the, appreciate the commentary and changed my mind pretty much. So awesome.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, Josh, thank you so much. And yeah, here’s the bottom line, folks. If we, they call it opt out, we will be canceling the primary. Over 99% of Colorado Republicans will not be able to help choose our candidates. going into the general election. That will happen, plus all the other stuff I said about your tax dollars paying for free advertising for the Democrats and alienating half the state’s voters. That’s all going to happen, Josh. Thank you so much. And I do wish more people would be willing to just hear both sides and make a decision before running in.
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, hey, it’s all about, and Andy, Steve Jobs says, strong opinions loosely held, all right? Strong opinions loosely held. You got better data, you got to go with the better data, right?
SPEAKER 07 :
Thank you, Josh. I appreciate it. Thank you. Okay, we’re going to go back to Eli. Eli, we got a little under three minutes here. I’m going to let you close us out.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, I just I mean, I think we need to congratulate Josh on becoming a rhino like instantaneous. It’s amazing how fast that happens. Is he a Darth Rhino? Do we have to hear an argument? Yeah. You’re like, wow, that actually makes sense. You know, we actually can’t do this thing. And it’s better for Republicans to have Mike Johnson than Hakeem Jeffries. And wham, you’re suddenly a rhino. So, congratulations, Josh. Welcome to the club. But truly, Andy, there was also a time when I was a foaming at the mouth, we have to go rhino hunting kind of guy. I was a very self-righteous young man who would have believed a lot of this stuff. And I think it is important for us to talk about it because You know, almost everybody I know did start out that way. And then over time, you you become wiser and you say, hey, wait a second. I’d rather have Mike Johnson than Hakeem Jeffries. I’d rather have Donald Trump than Hillary Clinton. I mean, I remember I was tarred and feathered for. supporting Donald Trump in the primary and then again in the general election when the Colorado Republican establishment through the caucus system said we have to have Ted Cruz. In fact, you look at the photos of them standing in front of Ted Cruz 2020 signs at the 2016 National Convention. Right. Same people. There comes a point where, yeah, the exact same people. And you say, wait a second, majorities matter. If you look inside Colorado, we’re getting terrible legislation rammed down our throat. Why? Because majorities matter. When you look nationally, we’re getting brilliant things rammed down the Democrats’ throat. Why? Because majorities matter. We have a majority in the Senate. We have an itty-bitty majority in the House. Thank you to Gabe Evans, to Jeff Hurd, and to Jeff Crank for winning districts that could have been lost. Because of them, we have a majority in the House. And because of them, Donald Trump is able to govern. So if you like what Donald Trump’s doing, thank a rhino.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, actually, yeah, not really a rhino, but I know what you mean. Look, look, here’s the thing. You know, look, we’re all willing to go to war. And I believe that open primaries do disenfranchise a lot of the vote. Right. Because I have people who aren’t Republicans helping choose Republican candidates with me. I would rather that not be. That offends me, okay? I’ll be honest. That’s me personally. I would love a closed primary. I voted for closed primaries, okay? But the Bible says count the costs. And, Eli, today you’ve helped us count the costs, the honest costs. Folks, before you jump in the pool, make sure there’s water. You’ve got to make sure. Eli, you’ve got 20 seconds, 30 seconds, go.
SPEAKER 05 :
One of my favorite quotes out there is, you have a choice. You can be right or you can be married. I think your wife’s actually a Facebook friend of mine. If I’m not mistaken, I think she had a birthday recently. She did. But you have the ability to be right or you can be married in the same way that applies politically. At a certain point, you have to decide, do you want to be in the majority or do you want to be very self-righteous in the minority?
SPEAKER 07 :
Eli, thank you so much. Eli Bremer, thank you for joining us. We wanted a debate. We opened it up for debate. I begged for debate from the other side. They did not call. Sorry, guys. We gave you the best we could. Folks, that’s it for our number two. In our number three, now that we have dealt with open primaries, we’re going to listen to Jersey Joe. He’s going to have fun. He’s going to have facts from all the nation’s politics. Until then, keep it right here on Rush to Reason, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 1 :
I’m a rich guy
