In this episode of Rush to Reason, host John Rush dives into the captivating world of children’s literature with special guest Mike Goldstein, author of ‘American Stonehenge’ and ‘Adventures of Jimmy and Andrew.’ Explore the intriguing story of a young boy named Jimmy, his mystical telepathic canine companion, and their adventures in uncovering ancient mysteries. Mike shares his mission to entertain and educate young readers, aiming to tackle the declining literacy rates in the United States through engaging narratives and stunning illustrations.
SPEAKER 15 :
This is Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 04 :
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes.
SPEAKER 15 :
With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 04 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did!
SPEAKER 03 :
Get a job, Turk! You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 09 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know, you can’t explain. But you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 10 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 17 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 14 :
All right, and it’s Monday. Happy Monday, everybody. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush. I am back from vacation. Appreciate you all listening while I was gone. Also appreciate Andy, Dr. Scott, and others filling in for me as well. I greatly, greatly appreciate that. And if you’re listening, thank you, thank you. I mean that sincerely. We have, though, with us right now Mike Goldstein joining us now, author of American Stonehenge and Adventures of Jimmy and Andrew. And Mike’s been on with us many times in the past. Mike, how are you, sir?
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m good. Thank you for having me. How are you, John?
SPEAKER 14 :
I’m good. Always a joy having you, Mike, and a great book. And my grandsons alone enjoy it thoroughly, and I know a lot of others have as well, which I have heard back from. But tell us a little bit. Maybe somebody’s listening for the first time. Talk to us about American Stonehenge.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right. Well, the book is about a boy named Jimmy who’s always wanted a dog. His whole life he’s been thinking about this. And finally, on his ninth birthday, his parents allow him to adopt a dog, and he goes to the shelter. And it turns out that the dog that he gets can speak with him telepathically. And he soon finds out that the dog is immortal, born in Egypt over 3,000 years ago, and has been searching the world ever since, trying to find out his origins, who he is, where he came from, others of his time. And it’s not until he meets Jimmy that he begins to discover clues to those elusive origins. And the book, this first book, American Stonehenge, their first adventure, takes place in the forests of northern Washington, where there’s been a recent discovery of a fully intact version of Stonehenge in England. And it’s shrouded in mystery. And his parents, archaeologist’s parents, Jimmy’s archaeologist’s parents, go up there to excavate the find. They take Jimmy and his new canine companion, Andrew, with them. And they have to unravel these mysteries. And the interesting thing about this book and all the books in this series is you have the current adventure, but you also go back and forth between episodes in the dog’s long life since he’s lived over 3,000 years. And this all ties into the current story, too. So it’s very interesting, and that’s basically what the book is about.
SPEAKER 14 :
And ultimately, and Mike, I want to make sure we remind everybody, for those of you listening, the reason why this is such a big deal to us here on Rush to Reason and KLZ, but also a big deal to Mike, is, Mike, the reason that you wrote this in the first place is, at the end of the day, we’re trying to teach young people, young kids, how to read because our literacy rates in the United States of America, as you know, are at an all-time low.
SPEAKER 06 :
Exactly. Exactly. This whole thing, I mean, our motto is basically to entertain, but also to educate. Because we want to get kids reading. So first of all, we have to come up with a story that is going to entertain them, that they want to read. And this is a book that kids are going to want to read.
SPEAKER 14 :
And by the way, I appreciate you saying that. You have to get to the point where the kids are interested in reading in the first place, because I can tell you, Mike, firsthand from growing up, and I’m a great reader, not because of things like what you had, because I read a lot of things as a young person that, frankly, were boring. You were made to do it. You didn’t have much of a choice. And I would have loved to have had something like this to read as a kid, because, frankly, we didn’t really have a lot of those things when I was growing up.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, and I grew up about this at the same time you did, so I know exactly what you mean. And that’s part of this whole thing. First, the story. You have to have a story that kids want to read and get their nose out of the phones and want them to actually get involved with reading. And not just – even though this book is middle-grade fiction, that’s what it’s categorized as, 8 to 12, it’s also for older kids, tweens and teens, because you want – want kids being able to read no matter what their age. It’s a great book to help the older kids develop a love of reading or love of reading again.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, and for some of you listening, you might have older kids that read to younger kids. You may be reading to your own kids. This is one of those books, Mike, where we really want it to be family-focused, and I don’t want to be coy when I say that, but really we want it to be family-focused so that we’re getting more than just one kid reading when this is all said and done.
SPEAKER 06 :
Exactly. And that’s the second point about this particular book, is the way that it’s packaged, the way that it comes across. In other words, we wanted to give… The book is designed for family read-togethers. Right. It’s a 7 1⁄2 by 10, as you know.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yep. It’s a big book.
SPEAKER 06 :
Very nice. And we also spent two years on the illustrations, because I wanted to have illustrations, full-page illustrations for every chapter that shows the exact… detail of everything that’s going on in the scene there in that chapter.
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, just to step in really quick, Mike, you have done a phenomenal job on that end of things, and I mean that sincerely.
SPEAKER 06 :
Thank you. Thank you. It’s a great piece. It really is. We wanted to give it that graphic novel quality. And when you’re sitting there with maybe a younger child, 7, 8 years old, 6, They’re following along and watching the illustration as you’re reading it. And so it’s their whole package. And we want kids not only – we want them to read books. Okay, that’s the whole idea. So this is not just like – this isn’t some – it’s not a Dick and Jane type book. It’s not a book where you’re just trying to – This is a book that really entertains, and it’s very sophisticated.
SPEAKER 14 :
Really quick before I let you go, Mike, talk about the illustrations and the way you’ve done that that really is different than most books on the market.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, well, most books on the market, you’re going to find the illustrations at the beginning of the chapter. almost all book publishers do, because if you do otherwise, it costs a lot of money. But the problem with that is that if you’re reading a scene later on and it’s something exciting, then it’s giving you a preview of something that you want the person to be surprised about. Or if you’re reading a scene, you have to go back and look at the illustrations. We put the illustrations across on the opposite page from the scene so that while they’re reading it, they can be looking at it. And they can see these They can see a free preview of the first four chapters of this book, in print replica, for the illustration, for the 33, page illustrations by going to klzradio.com slash read.
SPEAKER 14 :
Awesome. Awesome. Well, Mike, as I always say, you’ve done just a fabulous job. Those of you listening where, and I know it might sound a little odd, but you may not have kids at home anymore. You might be in a neighborhood where there’s other kids roaming around. This is the type of item, Mike, where people can buy this book. They can hand it out to, you know, coworkers, kids, neighbor kids, if they’ve got family members, of course. Folks, believe me when I say this. This is the kind of book that you could get a dozen copies. They’re not that expensive. Get a dozen copies and hand them out to folks that you know because, really, again, the end goal here, and, Mike, I know, you know, we’re trying to tell a story, keep the kids interested and all of that, which is all a part of the main goal being let’s teach kids how to read.
SPEAKER 06 :
Exactly. And what we have coming out soon, we’re working on this right now, is what we have coming out as a study guide. It’s going to go along with the book for teachers and for homeschoolers and parents and grandparents. And that study guide is going to be, when it comes out, it’s going to be up on our website, and people will be able to download it for free.
SPEAKER 14 :
Very cool. Mike, as always, man, I appreciate you very much. You’ve done a fantastic job. It’s a great piece. Those of you listening, you can go to either klzradio.com, and you can find Mike there, or go to theadventuresofjimmyandandrew.com. Either way works. And Mike, as always, I appreciate you very much, sir. Thank you, John. Thank you for having me. You’re very welcome. Have a great rest of your day.
SPEAKER 06 :
I really enjoyed it. Go ahead. Okay, you too. All right, Mike. All right, have a good one.

God Country Reason Now back to John Rush.
SPEAKER 14 :
And it is Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Thanks for joining us today. Yes, I’m back from vacation, so live program today, March the 3rd. Appreciate you all very much. Thanks for the text messages even while I’m out, and I appreciate those that come in as well. The text line, by the way, 307-282-22. We’ll have a special guest joining us here at 3.30. Deborah Lee is going to join us, and we’re going to talk about those – Folks that are going back to the office, including federal workers, and a lot of them are not very happy and are now being required to show their work and so on. And we’ll talk to her here shortly over the weekend. Actually, I think Friday on. And I wasn’t here, of course, Friday, but I was able to watch it. I was actually in the airport getting ready to come home and was actually watching all of it sort of unfold on the Internet X, et cetera. And that was Zelensky. being essentially escorted out of the White House. And I’ll just say straight up, what a putz. You may have different feelings on Ukraine than I have, and I’ve been pretty vocal when it comes to Ukraine, Russia, all of that from the get-go. I am one that felt like we didn’t need to get involved in any of it, period, and I know I’m unique along those lines. There’s a lot of other people, Christians included, that would disagree with me. It’s your right to disagree. But that’s one of those that I just didn’t feel like we needed to get involved in. We created it in a lot of ways. Biden created it in a lot of ways. And I’ve talked about that. Andy and I have numerous times on the price of oil after Biden took over, lining the pockets of Putin, allowing him to do what he did. And I’m not a Putin fan. I’m also not a Zelensky fan. I’m not a fan of either one of them. I think they’re both crooks. Which one’s a bigger crook? That’s probably the biggest question. I honestly don’t know. I think we’ve been played by Ukraine on many levels. And again, I’m not going to get into all of those details. That’s not why I’m mentioning this. But it was interesting to watch what unfolded on Friday and then look at a lot of the comments that came after. And if you didn’t watch the entire meeting that they had, and this was a meeting that, in case you haven’t looked or you don’t know, this was a meeting that was put in front of the press. And I think it was done on purpose, and frankly, a lot say that it was done on purpose to set up Zelensky. No, I look at that completely different. This was Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, being very open about this conversation they were having, letting the press be there to observe what was going on, and literally showing the little tyrant that Zelensky really is. And you’ll see in a lot of news clips, especially the left-leaning media news clips, the tail end of that. Whereas Zelensky starts to get frustrated and essentially, you know, Trump and Vance sort of shut everything down and the rest is history. Now, there’s a lot more to it than that. And you have to watch what led up to that particular point in time to where that frustration level kept building and building. And the one thing that’s not being mentioned enough that I saw and I caught this, and I don’t know why it’s not being mentioned more, is Zelensky’s requirement of more troops, U.S. troops. And that’s a no. That’s a big, fat N-O. That is my opinion. Now, I think it’s also Trump’s and Vance’s opinion, because I think that particular ask… was the biggest deal breaker for them aside from all of the other posturing that zielinski was doing and the way he was demanding things and so on and by the way the guy’s just a little dictator it showed very well on friday that he is and the other thing just as a side note that i’m sick and tired of already seeing i’ve already you know defriended and blocked some people on social media if you’re going to be dumb enough to put up that you’re for ukraine and that somehow or another Donald Trump and J.D. Vance are the bad guys in all of this, you’re an utter moron. You’re an utter moron. You have no idea what went on in that particular meeting. You have not watched the entire meeting, and you are 100% clueless as to what’s going on. Now, do I feel like this thing needs to end? I have felt like that for a while now. I never thought it should have started. I think the Biden administration botched that from the get-go. I’ve said that numerous times. Because of Biden’s weakness, Putin did what he did. Had a Donald Trump or somebody like him been in office, this would have never happened. That I am confident of. But it did. And unfortunately, Zelensky’s a little crook in and of himself. He and his cronies. Millions upon millions upon millions of dollars missing that aren’t accounted for. There needs to be a complete audit, by the way, of where all that money, weapons, and everything else went. And keep in mind that during this meeting, Donald Trump never once said he was going to pull support for Ukraine. This was, by the way, a deal whereby we were going to give them additional monies and weapons and things to help them win the war in exchange for some mineral rights or some minerals coming back to us. Let’s not all forget that. That’s how this was originally set up to go. And then last minute, Zelensky’s narcissism, I’ll just say it as it is, his narcissism got in the way. And he was bound and determined to make sure he got his point across to Donald Trump. And it didn’t sit well with him or J.D. Vance. And it didn’t sit well with me as an American citizen either. Several times, Donald Trump said, you should be thankful for what we have done as a country. And I’m thinking as a taxpayer who’s, by the way, writing the check. U.S. government has no money. I’m writing the checks. You’re writing the checks. We as taxpayers are writing the checks. Actually, we’re borrowing the money to write the checks. But that’s another conversation. At the end of the day, he blew it. Zelensky blew it. He had too much of an ask. He showed how much of an ASS he actually is, and he blew it. And anybody out there that’s flying this I’m with Ukraine nonsense is an absolute, utter moron that literally has no idea what’s going on. Joe, what’s up?
SPEAKER 05 :
John, are you aware that the day before Zelensky met with Trump that he met with a bunch of Democrats and they urged him to reject the deal?
SPEAKER 14 :
I did not know that, but that would not shock me at all. Vance even called him out on his campaigning for Biden or for Harris, I should say, prior to the election.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, I think the headline from the New York Post is Democrats lead Zelensky off a cliff. I mean, they just wanted to see Trump fail. It was like, we don’t care what happens to Ukraine anymore. We just want to make Trump look bad. Now, this was supposed to be a simple signing. It was supposed to be a simple signing ceremony. Yeah, here we are. We’re going to go in the next room and work out the details, and we’ll come back after it’s signed. And Zelensky, out of nowhere, comes up with these additional demands, which I’m sure he was urged on to do by the Democrats the day before. Talk about almost on the verge of treason today. The Democrats were trying to sabotage the deal, I think, only to make Trump look bad.
SPEAKER 14 :
Maybe I’m looking at this wrong, Joe, and I realize that the left will blow anything up and the morons on the left will blow it up even further because they’re useful idiots at the end of the day. I don’t see this making Trump look bad at all. I see this as Zelensky looking like an utter moron, little dictator who got upset at the 12th hour.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, that’s a very rational, informed people, but there’s so many useful idiots out there. I’m going to say at least a quarter, if not half the population. thinks that Trump blew it and it’s Trump’s fault.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, I’ve seen some of those comments, and fortunately I’ve seen a lot of the comments come back to them and say, do you not live in reality? Did you not watch the entire thing? Did you not see the buildup that was happening? Are you that stupid to just watch the last three minutes of this and then basically form your opinions from that?
SPEAKER 05 :
And did you see where Zelensky referred to J.D. Vance as J.D.? Not Mr. Vice President, J.D.? ? He referred to the vice president of the United States as J.D.
SPEAKER 14 :
The guy is, and again, for everybody listening, please, I’ll make sure I’m clear on this. I don’t like Putin either. I think he’s a gigantic dictator putz as well, Joe, but I don’t think Zelensky’s any different.
SPEAKER 05 :
I think you’re absolutely right, John. And it’s not millions that are missing, John. It’s billions that are missing. Billions.
SPEAKER 14 :
Thank you. Yes.
SPEAKER 05 :
Hey, and I’m going to forward you the news article detailing what happened with the Democrats the day before. Perfect.
SPEAKER 14 :
Do that. I’d appreciate that, Joe. Thank you, man.
SPEAKER 05 :
You’re welcome, John.
SPEAKER 14 :
Good talking to you again, Joe. Appreciate you as always. I always miss talking to you when I’m gone. All of you as well. I appreciate that. very much. This is a topic I may come back to. I might even talk to this a little bit in regards to English as the official language when my son Richard joins us at 4.30. But yeah, that’s another thing that Donald Trump signed over the weekend. And before I actually go to break, Charlie always asks me what I learned on vacation. Well, there’s lots of things I learned on this particular vacation, but this one in particular. And my wife and I happened to meet a local individual. We went to Mexico, so there’s a local individual in Mexico that is a particular individual. I don’t want to get into a lot of details, but very wise individual. And probably would say he’s in his early 30s. extremely smart, has lived all around the world because of what his dad had done prior. And fortunately for him, his mom and dad made it literally a requirement that he was going to know English. And what got me on this topic was as I was talking to him, I’m like, man, your English is perfect. It’s better than a lot of people in America that speak English. And I’m not exaggerating. His grammar, Charlie would be like, man, this guy, it’s impeccable. This is very well-schooled, really knows his stuff. No accent. I said, okay, I have to know. I’ve known a lot of Spanish, Mexican individuals who speak really good English but have a hard accent. And it’s just how do you get rid of that? And he said, well, he said a lot of practice. He said, my folks made us go to speech therapists. They taught us how to use the tongue properly so that our accent would disappear and it would no longer be there. He said, I can bring it back when I want to. And he did. But he said, I can speak very fluent English, no problem whatsoever. And I said, wow. I said, number one, congratulations. It’s masterful the way you’ve mastered our language. And that’s where he corrected me. He said, you know, he said, when you say that, He said, it’s not your language, it’s the world’s language. He said, my father taught me early on, if I was gonna be successful in business, I needed to know English. He said, I have people that come to me all the time that say, man, I wish I could speak Spanish. I need a second language. I need to be able to do this. I need to be able to do that. And he says, you know what I tell them? No, you don’t. He said, no, you don’t. You can be just as successful speaking one language, English, as you can any other language put together, He said, don’t let anybody fool you. This is the language you have to have to do business on a worldwide basis. And he said, don’t let anybody ever tell you otherwise, because I’m a native of Mexico. I’ve been in Venezuela. I’ve been in Africa. I’ve been all over the place. His dad actually worked for a pharmaceutical company, and they lived all around the world. And he said, I will tell you that this English, this is the language that you have to have if you want to be successful in the world. Not saying there can’t be others that wouldn’t be without it, but he said, I will tell you that my parents taught me And I will teach others that it is the most important language you can learn and learn it in a way where everybody can understand what you’re saying in English and you will be extremely successful in the things that you do. And I thought, holy cow, that’s a lesson all in and of itself from somebody that’s not an American. This is a Mexican citizen that’s literally telling my wife and I this. And I’m looking at him like, holy cow. These are things that I would have never even thought of and or repeated. And this is coming from somebody that’s not an American citizen. So when it comes to English being the official language, which, by the way, everybody thought it was at one time. Most people think it is. It is now. But the reality is it never has been. It’s never been anything that’s been instituted into our Constitution, into the Bill of Rights, into anything along those lines whatsoever. But it now is, under Donald Trump, English is the official language of the United States of America. Dr. Scott Faulkner. And Scott actually was texting me back and forth this morning. He has an open house. At his practice coming up March the 8th from 9 to 3. And then he has a stem cell sale coming up on March 15th only. March 15th only, 25% off. That’s a big deal, by the way. SPEAKER 15 :
The best export we have is common sense. You’re listening to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 14 :
All right, Charlie’s trying to round up our next guest, and it’s Monday. Things happen in people’s lives, and I can attest to that greatly, things that you do not plan on. We’ll keep trying to get a hold of her. If not, we will keep moving along, which is what we always do. Anyways, really quick, back to what we were talking about with Joe a moment ago on the whole. Ukraine situation and what happened on Friday and I was just reading Wall Street Journal this morning and Andy even texted me a moment ago that we may stop all support for them for Ukraine depending upon how things go. In fact there’s an article in the Wall Street Journal talking about the US hitting the brakes on the flow of arms to Ukraine. I don’t think that Zelensky really understands how badly he screwed up and or the Democrats that encouraged him to do what he did. I don’t think they really understand how badly they messed up. Pretty stupid on their part. Now, I have said for a long, long time, the amount of money that we have sent over there, just on a whim, totally unacceptable. Totally unacceptable. There should have been a deal on the front side to say, listen, if we help you, this is what we’re going to require in return. Otherwise, no help. Period. And before all of you that love Ukraine get on your soapbox and start talking about how wrong I am and that we need to be protecting them and you can’t just let Russia do this and do that, I get it. You can’t let Russia just go willy-nilly and do whatever it wants to and invade. I understand that. I get that. On the same token, Ukraine’s not an angel. Not by a long shot. Not by a long shot. And for those that are out there saying that, you know, this is a vendetta that Trump had against Ukraine because of the Biden charisma and all of that stuff, that is also utter nonsense. Complete, utter nonsense. Trump didn’t start off the meeting talking about pulling anything out. But in the end, that’s exactly what’s happened. And you can blame all of that on Zelensky and his behavior at said meeting. And if Joe is correct, which I believe him, and the Democrats had a meeting prior, shame on them because that never should have happened in that way. And that’s really not very wise on their part. But anybody saying that the left is wise, yeah, let me just say that they’re not. They are not wise at all. The way they are handling things, even inside of their own party, it’s about as bad as what we have going on here in Colorado with our end of things. But we’ll get into that more with Andy tomorrow. So Deborah Leah joining us now. Deborah, welcome. How are you?
SPEAKER 11 :
Good. Thanks for having me. How are you doing?
SPEAKER 14 :
I appreciate it. We have talked about this a little bit off and on because as a business owner myself and even somebody that coaches other businesses and I go through some of these same processes that are happening right now on a federal level, why are people so upset, A, about having to go back to the office and then on top of that be required to talk about what they do in their job on a regular basis and justify it?
SPEAKER 11 :
I’m Gen Z, but I think this is the entire American society right now. Ever since COVID, people have gotten comfortable being lazy, not working hard, and just living easily. And they don’t understand the value of hard work. Yes, it’s nice to be able to sit from home, wear your pajamas, but the interactions when you’re out and about, getting ready every day, having social interactions every day, it’s very important for human psychology. And up until modern history, isolation was like the worst punishment that anybody could ever have, exiling them. And so… It’s very interesting that people are now choosing to exile themselves and convincing themselves that it’s somehow better for them or they deserve that. And overall, I don’t understand the mindset. You know, it’s nice to work from home every now and then. But overall, getting out and about participating in society is something important and worth doing.
SPEAKER 14 :
Absolutely. And of course, Debra, you’re from Parler. That’s a social media platform we’re all very familiar with. You guys are dedicated to championing free speech and so on. And those of you that don’t know about Parler, it’s easy. Just download the app, make that part of what you do on a regular basis. And it’s a great platform, Debra. And I agree with you, by the way, everything you just said, again, as a. my background as a business owner, I’ve owned multiple businesses throughout the years. I currently, other than doing the show here, I do work from home. I coach other businesses. I do what I do there from home. And I’ve done that now for probably the last, Oh, 15 to 20 years, and I will tell you, Debra, that to your point, there’s times I purposely go and do things because you want to be around other people, interact. I could literally do this show from home. I’ve got the technology to do it, but I enjoy coming into the station, meeting and greeting other people, having that conversation, looking at Charlie, my engineer, across from me through the glass. I mean, there’s just things. things about that human interaction I cannot get at home and as much as I love you know my wife and my family and all of that Deborah it’s not the same as actually going to work and seeing other people and I fully understand that and like you I have a hard time wrapping my brain around all that now with all that said I will also tell you that as somebody that’s done it for a very long time You have got to be extremely dedicated. You have to have the right mindset. You have to be well organized. You have to be a very self-driven, which I am, individual. Otherwise, Deborah, you’re going to go home and be lazy.
SPEAKER 11 :
Absolutely. And that’s something I COVID hit my freshman year of college. So we all had to do our classes online and we saw the decline firsthand. And this was pretty low, you know, low risk situation. It’s just your college grades and your GPA, which matters a lot then. But compared to the business world and companies that there’s much more at stake and at risk there. it was detrimental to every single person on my college campus. Everybody’s GPAs collectively went down, and there’s really a lot to it. Human psychology is complex, and as much as we think we know what’s best for us, there’s a reason that society has done things for thousands of years, and that’s worked out for everyone. Everything normal, like getting married, having children, having strong families, going to church or synagogue, there’s a reason that people have done this for thousands of years, and it’s not because it didn’t work.
SPEAKER 14 :
that’s that is a great point that you bring up and and i will say this i predicted early on now i was wrong on my timetable because i really felt like this whole getting people back into the office would have happened much earlier than it has now i literally am shocked that it’s taken this long other than i think for a lot of companies that’s where i want to get your opinion i just feel like for a lot of companies they knew this day was coming They kept kicking the can down the road because they didn’t want the squabble, the fight, the things that they knew they would have to go through to get these people back in. So in a lot of ways, they just sort of said, well, you know, if it’s somewhat working, we’ll just leave it alone. And I think what’s happened is, you know, production has just continued to fall off, fall off, fall off to the point where they have no choice now but to bring people back in. Am I right in my thought process?
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, absolutely. And I think specifically people being upset and outraged about it, I think it’s because a lot of people had other jobs. And if you work for yourself, independent contractor, yes, work 10 jobs from home. But specifically with the federal jobs, that’s something that they’re investigating now with DOGE that a lot of these individuals, they want to know what other jobs are you working? How much more income are you earning from other companies? Is there a conflict of interest? Are you serving the federal government while also working on something that benefits from your job in the government? We just want more transparency, and it’s very difficult to do that when you have people taking Zoom meetings from their bathtubs or wherever they are in the entire world. And so I absolutely agree with you, and you can tell me if I’m right or wrong on this, but I think a lot of people are just mad about it. I get it. I’m empathetic. I understand if you got comfortable at home, it’s annoying to get dressed every day and commute and this and that. But I think a lot of people are just opposing this because it’s coming from the Trump administration. And I’ve seen that across the board with issues. I live in New York. I’m born and raised here. And with the congestion pricing toll that they added, Trump went to reverse it. There are Democrats rallying in the street in support of these nine dollar tolls like I think we’ve just entered a point in society where anything that the MAGA movement Trump supports, the left is just radically opposed to, like protecting women’s sports. It’s a pretty unifying issue. I think we can all agree women deserve safe places, but evidently not.
SPEAKER 14 :
No, by the way, you are spot on. You are 100% correct. If this were being done any other way, yeah, there would still be some people that would be upset about it, but not the masses like it is right now. And I also agree with you. There’s a lot of these people that just figured, oh, gosh, you know what? I don’t have to even get dressed for work anymore. I can just put on a collared shirt and I’ll be good for the day and I can wear my pajamas underneath the rest of it. In other words, what’s from the waist down, nobody cares. And again, Debra, because I’m a very disciplined person, I will tell you that from the very day that I did some business things and sold some businesses and so on and realized I’d have to be now working from home more and I had multiple locations and things going on, it just worked best for me to do so. There has not been a single day I have to be extremely ill. I mean, I have got to be so ill I can’t get out of bed. To not get up, take a shower, put on my regular work clothes.
SPEAKER 11 :
Mm hmm. That’s something that has gone back for not only in modern society, but in religion, too. I always look for life advice that comes from a religious perspective. I’m a very proud Jew. And I was reading a rabbi’s, the Chabad rabbi’s letters from years and years ago, and he gave the same advice like 50 years ago. All the same people were having the same issues that we have nowadays. And the advice will always stay on the test of time, which is wake up at the same time every day, eat at the same time every day, get some movement, drink some water. And all of those things, I think when you are working at home, you kind of just push that onto the wayside. And I also work from home a lot. I have done a few news hits with potentially pajamas on the bottom. I will deny that if it ever comes down to it. But I’ve definitely felt the psychological effect. of just feeling, as they say, like a body in motion stays in motion. When you’re home, even if you’re working very hard, it doesn’t feel as accomplished as if you were just outside of the home. It feels a little bit more stagnant. And that feeling of just like sitting inside all day, to me personally, that is the worst feeling in the world. I feel trapped. It’s just not an enjoyable feeling. No, I agree with you. I don’t know why everybody’s rallying for it.
SPEAKER 14 :
I don’t either, because at the end of the day, to your point, I think this is exactly what we need to get things back on track, get production back up, whether that’s inside the federal government, whether it’s in the private sector, it really doesn’t matter. At the end of the day, we are a country that is very well known for being high production. We know how to get things done. And I think, to your point, we’ve lost a lot of that through COVID. And I liked your advice, by the way. And I had similar advice throughout the years from several different mentors that, you know, It doesn’t matter whether it’s Saturday, Sunday, whatever, you get up at the same time. In my case, I get dressed. My kids, you know, they always think that they’re like, Dad, it’s Saturday. You got a collared shirt on. Why? I’m like, because I’m still the most comfortable wearing that than I am a T-shirt. I just rarely, Debra, ever wear a regular T-shirt. And I think part of that is as an owner, I want to look the part. You never know when you’re going to meet somebody else in my world that you might have conversation with, could be a supplier, could be a customer, could be whoever. And the reality at the end of the day, I want to look better than everybody else because I want them to see that and know that that’s the caliber of individual that I am. And I think it’s a huge reflection on me personally. And maybe I’m wrong, but that’s how I see it.
SPEAKER 11 :
I think you’re absolutely correct. And I think you’re touching upon a much larger psychological issue that over time we’ve gotten way more casual as a society. People used to wear suits on trains and airplanes and really dress up every occasion. Absolutely. And I think that affects us. We can deny it all we want, but we’ve seen the effect that that’s had on people mentally and physically. When people don’t dress up, they don’t attribute meaning to society as much. Your life feels much less meaningful. And everything about life is a man’s search for meaning, you know, so the more meaningful things that you can do and raising the ability. or increasing the probability to have a meaningful interaction, you have to leave your house for that most of the time. And I don’t want the left to think that we’re just, you know, going to come in and destroy everything and piss everybody off and do everything to harm everybody. It’s very much the opposite. We are coming back to normal. The last few years in this country have gone… So off the track of what’s normal and what’s good in American society. And we’re having a hard return to normalcy. And it’s going to be brutal for some people. But get on the train or get left behind because we are not going to tolerate the last four years for the future. I deserve better. My future children deserve better. And we’re going to have it.
SPEAKER 14 :
You know what? Thank you, by the way. I appreciate you at your age saying these things because we need we need more of that. Not only does my generation need to be saying this, but literally every generation, Deborah, needs to be saying this. And I want to go back to what you said initially, because it’s the one thing I still like you. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that, OK. Throughout generations, going all the way back to biblical times, people were community-driven. Even they had super large families back in the day. In fact, your wealth and success as a man in a lot of cases had to do with how many you had in your family. And that community that’s always been around has been huge. I mean, God didn’t just put Noah and his wife on the ark. He put multiple people on the ark. Again, going back to that whole community thing, Debra. And the reality is throughout the test of time, community matters. And yet now we live in this day and age where, oh, I’m just going to lock myself in my basement and I’ll just work from there and I don’t need to see anybody. It’s backwards of what it should be.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, I think a lot of people, especially in the younger generation, I’m 24, so I’m perfectly in the middle of I had a normal upbringing. We didn’t have iPhones or social media, but we got very savvy with that. Like I had computer class growing up where they would teach us how to use the computer. But then, of course, took on to everything pretty quickly, just being raised around technology. But no, I think you’re absolutely right with that, that the modern generation thinks that social media replaces actual community. They think the digital town square is the same thing as the public town square. And it’s just not. It might feel that way. You can scroll TikToks and watch all of your favorite TikTokers and really feel like You’re friends with them and you know them, but it’s not. It’s not a real relationship. And it’s great to have entertainment, but that’s all it is. It’s entertainment. It is not social enrichment, which is important for everyone, for animals, for humans.
SPEAKER 14 :
It’s entertainment. It’s not, how should I say it? It’s not a relationship. It’s not interaction. And I think that whole, you know, it’s entertainment, not interaction. You cannot replace interaction with what you’re seeing on a screen. And as much as you, you know, being from Parler, yeah, it’s a platform, it’s social media and all of that. And the reality is it’s huge and a lot of people use it and it can be used in a very, very great way. At the end of the day, though, we’ve got to have that human interaction.
SPEAKER 11 :
Absolutely. And I encourage everybody to get on over to Parler because we have great, just really free speech absolutionists over there. Of course, you know, attacking things, that’s totally off the, that’s a different category. But overall, just letting people talk and connect. There you go. ever replace having human connection and meaning in life. And we need to get off this path now because anxiety, depression, suicide rates are just going up and up and up. And it’s clearly not because we’re doing something better than the past. The more that we try to adapt and change what our history and society is like, the the more depressed, anxious, and lonely everybody gets. So I think we need to go back to the beginning where everything worked how it should, the way God intended it to. You know, God wrote a perfect description about how society should function, and as long as we follow those rules, everything will be okay.
SPEAKER 14 :
You are spot on, Debra. I appreciate you very much. You are welcome back here anytime, and I mean that sincerely. Debra Lea, it’s spelled L-E-A. Parler is her social media platform. Debra, thank you again, and I meant what I said. You’re welcome anytime.
