In this episode of Rush to Reason, Andy Pate fills in for John Rush to take us on a reflective journey blending the themes of war movies and Easter weekend. With a unique perspective, Andy ponders on why showcasing war films can be poignant in a time meant for peace and introspection. Joined by Luke Cashman and Tanner Cole, the discussions delve into America’s current political climate and the rising violence propounded by opposing sides in the nation, offering listeners a moment of pause and reevaluation of the spirit of Easter.
SPEAKER 08 :
It’s finally Friday on Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. So I tell him I’m a pro jack. And who do you think they give me? The Dolly Lama. So we finish 18 and he’s going to sniff me. And I say, hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know. And he says, oh, it won’t be any money. When you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness. So I got that going. And movie reviews with Andy Payne.
SPEAKER 16 :
I think you got the wrong impression about me. I think in all fairness, I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do.
SPEAKER 11 :
What I do have are a very particular set of skills.
SPEAKER 14 :
Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
SPEAKER 03 :
Chief Lane, what do you want to do tonight?
SPEAKER 08 :
The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world. Stick a fork in me, Jerry. I’m done.
SPEAKER 09 :
Now, here is your host of Rush to Reason, John Rush.
SPEAKER 04 :
Actually, it’s Andy Pate. Party of choice. And I’m your host, Andy Pate, filling in for John Rush. John’s finally getting some well-deserved time off. And I’m joined today, as always, by Luke Cashman and Tanner Cole. Man. Too much manhood to possibly be believed.
SPEAKER 06 :
We changed the weather.
SPEAKER 04 :
I feel unmanly in here. I want you to know I feel overshadowed. It’s kind of hurtful.
SPEAKER 05 :
I think you should.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, my wife says that too. She says, listening to you two, she likes me less.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, I mean, it’s because you’re so weak.
SPEAKER 04 :
I know. I am a weak man. Okay. Now, I want to talk a little bit about the Easter weekend because in the second hour, what are we doing for our movies in the second hour? This is going to seem like it doesn’t make sense. War movies. And people might be wondering, why are you doing war movies going into Easter weekend? Well, two reasons. First of all, we did religious movies last week because we were starting the whole week. And secondly, one of the movies I am doing today is called Warfare. So I figured, let’s do war movies. We haven’t done that in quite a while. And those are actually a lot of the greatest movies. I love war movies. Do you guys like war movies? Good ones.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, good ones. I’m picky about my war movies.
SPEAKER 04 :
Some drag.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
But some are great. Some are great. Okay. I wrote this, so I’m just going to read right through it. And I literally wrote it right before we came on today. The ink is still wet. So hopefully this makes sense. All right. And I want to talk a little about the Easter weekend and war. Okay. America’s at war with itself. Have you noticed this? Yeah. I mean, look around. One side is turning increasingly to violence. And I mean, it really is much more one side than the other. Both sides have it within us. But one side is really becoming violent. They tried to kill Trump twice. They shot Steve Scalise when he was playing baseball. They assaulted Rand Paul. They burned Teslas. They protested across colleges nationwide against Israel’s right to exist. Remember River to the Sea? They shoot up major cities every weekend, and one poll had a majority of them saying it’s okay to kill Elon Musk. Now, whether you’re a Christian or not, the fact is 2,100 years ago, Jesus went to war against the very hate and sin that burns in America today. Can we agree on that?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. But Jesus didn’t sacrifice politicians or innocent bystanders in Chicago or young girls in human trafficking or young women in the boxing ring against men where they get peed up or even set cars on fire. He didn’t shoot up schools or stab people who offended him. And people really tried to offend him, folks. Now, in the war Jesus fought, there was only one casualty, himself. We celebrate Easter in a couple days, and I just want to make a request to everyone who’s listening, and listen closely. Whatever your belief system, it doesn’t matter, whatever your politics, how about we take a weekend off from our hate? Okay? How about we take a weekend off? In all the little things we do throughout each day, how about we sacrifice ourselves, not others? For some, like me, Jesus is our Savior. But I think for all of us, just for this weekend, he can be our example. What do you think?
SPEAKER 05 :
Agreed.
SPEAKER 04 :
Does that sound fair enough?
SPEAKER 05 :
I think it is appropriate for the season.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, I think it is, too, because when I look at all the violence raging across America today, I’m telling you what, you know, once again, whether you’re a Christian or not, I think we can look at a great example like that. Or if you want to look at Gandhi, fine. OK, look at somebody who doesn’t burn Teslas. OK, look at somebody. If somebody if a pollster comes to you and says, is it OK to kill this or that politician or political figure like Elon Musk? How about saying no? I mean, is America completely out of control? You guys tell me.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah. I have a hard time just driving home and not getting infuriated with what I’ve seen the Democrats do to this state and city. I mean, the homelessness and then you get the illegals running around causing mayhem. I can barely get home sometimes because there’s problems in the streets just with I don’t know what’s happening. Illegals everywhere. just causing problems. I see people getting beat up a decent amount near where I live. So, I mean, and the drugs is just out of control at this point, too. There’s overdose nearly every day near my apartment as well.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. And by the way, I will say this. I believe on average, illegal immigrants… commit very little crime because they don’t want to get caught in the country. OK, but the simple fact is, you know, Biden let in so many that a number of places around the world emptied their jails and sent some very violent people here, some very dangerous people here. And they got to go. All right. They have to go. And it just blows my mind. There again, here you’re talking about a guy, where is he now, in El Salvador? El Salvador. Yeah, and this guy abused women, okay, and is a member of a gang. He’s a terrorist. And these people actually want to bring him back, folks. Wrong is right, up is down, down is up. Nothing makes sense anymore. What happened to the Democrat Party? I don’t know. People say, Andy, are you just calling them a bunch of non-Christians? There are Democrats who believe they are Christians. There are Republicans who believe they are Christians. Guess what? The judge is going to rule in the end for both sides. But I will say this. Wanting somebody who abuses women in our country is just not a good thing.
SPEAKER 06 :
And you want that guy here but want to kill Elon? Like, what?
SPEAKER 04 :
That makes no sense. But you want to kill Elon who rescued people from space. Okay? And you want to kill Trump who rescued people from Russia and Hamas. Okay? Guys. Get it together. I know. I know we can’t stand the politicians who are against us. OK, I couldn’t stand Obama. Yeah, I couldn’t. It was harder to hate Biden because he was so far gone. But Obama, I really couldn’t stand. OK, I get it. I get the anger. I get the rage. But acting on it or actually being in favor of acting on it in a poll. Guys, I’m asking, I’m pleading with you. One weekend. Can you just take one weekend off from the rage? For one weekend, you know, when somebody’s trying to get into traffic, can you pull back a little and let them merge? For one weekend, could you maybe, maybe not try to get your way in an argument with your wife or husband? You know, for one weekend, can we sacrifice ourselves like he sacrificed himself? For one weekend, can we learn? I don’t think it’s asking so much.
SPEAKER 06 :
No.
SPEAKER 04 :
And maybe, who knows, maybe, just maybe, we’ll learn something for the rest of the year. All right. Let’s take a break. When we come back, we’re going to be doing movies. Movies. These are pretty good movies, I’m going to tell you right now. These are pretty good movies. Violin. Yeah, I think people are going to want to see these. Up next is Dr. Scott Faulkner. Back to Rush to Reason. And welcome back to Rush to Reason. Denver’s Afternoon Rush. KLZ 560. Andy Pate filling in for John Rush along with Tanner Cole. Man. And Luke Cash. Man. And Luke. Yeah. Got a question for you, buddy. Okay. Are you ready for a movie? I’m ready for a movie! Okay, you know, all right. I did my little spiel at the beginning, but no more peace on Earth. No. No more. We’re in movies now. Well, that’s the next one. Next one. This one. Violence! There’s violence in this one, so you’ll be happy, okay? How do you kill when you’re not a killer?
SPEAKER 05 :
Carefully. Lathal injection. Extreme overwhelming violence. Those are my answers.
SPEAKER 04 :
You guys talk like you’ve planned this out for a long time. Tanner just jumped right in. I mean, Luke and I… Not that I think about it all the time, he says, sweat pouring down his brow.
SPEAKER 06 :
Luke and I sit next to each other quite a bit. I mean, these topics that come up… I’ve seen his board.
SPEAKER 05 :
I’ve seen the red X’s he’s placed on people’s eyes on his whiteboard. I know Tanner’s scheming.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, Kales, he’s a scary place. Okay, well, here’s how you kill when you’re not a killer. You just use your skills, whatever they are, in the amateur world.
SPEAKER 11 :
Charlie, I think you need to see this. What is this? Your wife has been killed. What you do is very important to what we do. Let us handle this. I want mission-specific training, cash, and a new identity. Have you lost your mind? I want to find and kill the people who murdered my wife. I don’t think you could beat a 90-year-old nun in an arm wrestling match. I want to face my wife’s killers, look them in the eyes, and balance the scales.
SPEAKER 09 :
Take it. Point it at my chest. Do it now. Put your finger on the trigger. You can’t do what I do no matter how much I train you. You’re just not a killer, Charlie. You’re just a nerdy fellow that works on computers. What you doing? I’m just gonna kill you.
SPEAKER 11 :
Do you ever account for the things I’m good at?
SPEAKER 01 :
We got a ping in Rome.
SPEAKER 09 :
He’s in London. He just got on a bus in Prague. He practically invented half of our surveillance. Maybe y’all misjudged this individual. This ends here.
SPEAKER 04 :
Ah, but the movie review doesn’t. No. No, it does not. It starts here. Okay, Rami Malek. He stars as CIA decoder Charlie Heller. You guys like him? I do.
SPEAKER 06 :
What else is he in?
SPEAKER 04 :
I forget.
SPEAKER 06 :
He was in Bohemian Rhapsody.
SPEAKER 04 :
He’s one of these guys who’s in a lot of stuff and you don’t remember what.
SPEAKER 05 :
Looking at him, I recognize. Yes, Bohemian Rhapsody. He starred in Mr. Robot. He was like King Tutton Night at the Museum. A couple of those.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, that’s right. The Little Things was really good. Him and Denzel.
SPEAKER 04 :
By the way, just a really good actor. I like him. Okay, Charlie in this movie, he’s happily married, but very much an introvert. He’s got a 170 IQ and great attention to detail. Basically, he likes his job. He’s in the right job, right? CIA decoder. But when Charlie’s wife is murdered in a London terror attack, he’s stunned to learn his agency just can’t go get the bad guys. Well, Charlie wants blood. He’s not a bad guy, but I mean, she was slaughtered. He wants blood. He wants justice. Well, in most revenge films, the hero is a fighting machine with guns and martial arts. But Charlie is none of those things. In fact, the tough guy CIA field agents, well, they laugh at the idea of him killing anyone. He’s a numbers guy, a decoder, a nerd. Honestly, you know Cillian Murphy.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, he’s skinnier. Right. I’m sorry. Yeah. My wife could take him. I’m serious. I think she could. Well, they’re right. But Charlie realizes he can use his talents to bring his wrath. His brilliant mind can track down bad guys, trap them, and kill them in various ways. Look out. and yet vigilante justice, well, that’s not really CIA, okay? That’s not their thing. So Charlie is hunted while he hunts. This challenges his mind even further, as he must carry out vengeance without getting caught. But ultimately, this is a thin non-fighter entering a scary world of people who really know how to kill. What if Charlie encounters them one-on-one? Can he fight to live? And can Charlie ever really know peace after what he has lost? We’ll see in The Amateur. What do you think, Tanner?
SPEAKER 06 :
I’ve been seeing this trailer for months. Just the scene of him killing the guy.
SPEAKER 04 :
In the pool?
SPEAKER 06 :
In the pool, yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
It is. I’ll get to that in a moment. It’s dazzling. It really is incredible to watch. Okay, what works in the amateur? Well, Malek is ideal for this role. He’s quirky. He’s thin. He’s deeply determined. It’s him. And by the way, he’s just a hell of an actor. All right? I like him. The kills and battles are big and pleasing for action fans. You just mentioned the big one, right? The swimming pool collapsing. It is amazing how they did that. Great special effects. Good job. But also, this is a chess game. He’s playing a chess game both against the CIA and against these guys who he’s tracking down. It’s really very cool. Next, it depicts the reality of what desperation and severe loss can do to a quiet person. You ever heard the phrase, it’s always the quiet ones? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
Like the school shooters is what they say.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. Well, when we ignore quiet people and deny them justice, they can bring the pain. Now, he’s not like a school shooter. This guy really deserves it. These are terrible people he’s going and getting. And one other thing, Lawrence Fishburne. He is his usual excellent self as both trainer and hunter. He’s perfect. And I just want to say to Hollywood right now, I know he’d be awfully busy and it would wear Lawrence out, but every single movie where anyone trains anyone in fighting, it must be Lawrence Fishburne.
SPEAKER 06 :
Or the Karate Kid guy.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, but he’s gone. Mr. Miyagi. Miyagi’s gone, so it’s got to be Fishburne. Got to be him. Okay, what doesn’t work in the amateur? Well, it’s about 20 minutes too long. At times, it’s a slog. It needs less introspection, a little more action. Not a lot more. It actually had some good action, but it needs a little more. Okay? This needed more of a pace like the movie Taken. Remember Taken? Yes. Good, quick pace, right? Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. And not just that it had a good pace with action, action, action, but the pace of the story as he closed in on the bad guys piece by piece by piece. It just moved along. This could have benefited from a little more of that pace. It had the same kind of story, but not quite the pace. Next. It was very implausible at times. Charlie makes himself far too visible in various settings where he can easily be tracked. No guy this brilliant would do that. I mean, somebody who understands. You know, the cameras are always watching you in all these various places. You would think he would be a little more aware of that, but he isn’t. Okay, and finally, it’s a bit anticlimactic. This could have provided better motives by the villains. Their motives weren’t that good. And it should have pointed toward a sequel with Charlie. This is a gifted guy. Use him. Set him up for a sequel. In fact, I believe there very possibly could be a sequel. I mean, I like this guy. I like him as a hero. I like the actor. I say go for it. But they really didn’t. And down the stretch, it ended fine. Have you ever felt like you’re watching a movie and it ends fine, but you’re thinking, man, you could have taken it another notch.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. And it’s not hard to lead into a sequel.
SPEAKER 04 :
Exactly. Okay, well, that is the amateur. Rotten Tomatoes gave the amateur 61%. I personally felt that was a bit low. I don’t think it’s a great movie, but I felt it was a bit low. Audiences definitely disagreed. They gave it 89%. Now, that’s people who want to go to this kind of movie, so they usually grade it up, but they graded it way up. I mean, come on, that’s a 28% difference. That’s huge. I’m going to go a little higher than them, too. Quality, I’m going to give it three and a half stars out of five. I think this is a good movie. I think it’s worth seeing. I enjoyed seeing it. It made for a good night at the movies. Political 3, Moral Religious 3, didn’t preach at me at all. That was nice.
SPEAKER 05 :
Nice.
SPEAKER 04 :
I love it. I didn’t know anybody’s politics in this thing, which is always a beautiful thing. I just watched a movie, man. The only thing is the pacing at times is just not at the taken pace. By the way, this is really weird. Just now I was looking out the window and snow was literally going upward. Yeah. Is there an updraft out there? That is very cool. Sorry, folks, bad radio. You can’t watch this, but it was snowing upward outside. It would have to be. Hey, we’re entering into the weekend for miracles.
SPEAKER 05 :
We are.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. Let’s go to break. When we come back, we’re going to talk warfare. Sound good?

SPEAKER 07 :
For the government! Inbound!
SPEAKER 09 :
What do you think, Luke?
SPEAKER 04 :
Does that sound pretty intense? Oh, it sounds so good.
SPEAKER 05 :
I’ve been excited for this movie for a little while.
SPEAKER 04 :
Ever since I saw the first trailer. Does that sound like your commute home every day? Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah. You ever go down Colfax?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay, it’s November 2006, and a group of American soldiers, they take up residence in an apartment in Ramadi. By the way, folks, true story. This entire story is taken straight from the statements from those who were involved. Okay? uh they’re there to support nearby marines that’s what this group is there for well after an opening of rocking out to a music exercise video which is pretty funny they settle in and go about their duties there’s a sniper constantly watching across the street reporting movements of all the fighting age iraqi so he’s watching as they’re going back and forth okay there’s two here there’s three there they’re going into this room and and he’s just letting everybody know here’s what’s happening here’s what’s happening There’s the lieutenant, who’s just as young as the soldiers, by the way, and he’s coordinating everyone’s placement and readiness. And, of course, you’ve got a guy on comms reporting all movement and receiving all intel from HQ, who has aerial footage. And so they’re keeping a sharp eye on the area. It’s tedious work. It’s repetitive. It’s meticulous. Nearly all warriors who have seen battle, although, well, nearly all these warriors have seen battle, although one guy is new. Okay. One guy’s new, and he kind of sticks out. He lacks urgency. You know, if I need you to go up that staircase to check on something, I need it now.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
You don’t kind of, you know, go up there, do it now, move, move, move. He lacks urgency, and he has to be reminded to stay on task. At one point, the streets start to clear and the sniper says they’re about to get their jihad on. All right. HQ confirms with aerial surveillance showing more bodies organizing and moving in on the American’s position. It’s about to get loud. It’s very cool, too. You watch the white specs. They show them moving in, coming down this block, coming down this block, moving around. And you’re like, oh, my gosh, these are people who are just shopping in the streets. 20 minutes before and now they are enemy combatants and they’re coming for you. It is just surreal. This is not the old days where the army comes over the hill.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Not at all. They converge from everywhere. You ever watch these movies with like vampire movies with aerial footage where you can see them coming in from around you? Uh-huh. It was like that. It was very spooky. Okay, shooting erupts. A grenade comes in. Outside, an IED explodes, shredding the legs of two American soldiers. Their screams never stop. It was really something, by the way. They are just screaming and screaming and screaming. And when you see their legs, you don’t blame them. I’m telling you what, the pain is beyond description. From here, it’s a battle for survival. Where is the enemy? Where are they? We see bodies circling about outside. There’s smoke, right? And the bodies whipping in and out, going back and forth. But they duck out of sight every time you have a shot. Can the injured soldiers be saved or are they too far gone? And where is the rescue mission? Come on, man. Where’s the cavalry? Come in. Get us. Where are they? They’re hurting, and the enemy is converging even more. Well, word comes that armored vehicles can’t be sent because of heavy fire. They’re just taking too much heavy fire so they can’t be sent in. Bombs can’t be dropped because, bad news, the enemy insurgents, one of the places they are is on the roofs above. So the soldiers would be killed along with them. So you can’t bomb them. And as the enemy closes in, time is running out. What transpires, of course, as I said, is a true story taken directly from those who did survive. Nothing has been added. Thus, we see a very real look at warfare. What do you think, Tanner?
SPEAKER 06 :
I can’t wait to watch it.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, very intense.
SPEAKER 06 :
I think it sounds so cool. Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, what works in warfare? First of all, I was struck by everything that was missing. And I mean this in a good way. Okay, listen to this. There’s no preaching for or against the war. No politics at all. But the Iraqis were shown exactly as they were. Deadly. Deadly and mysterious. He didn’t know, you know, is one kid. This is why it’s so hard for them. Our American soldiers are told you can never hit anybody who’s a civilian. Well, who are they? OK, it’s almost like they morph from civilian and combatant into civilian. And this one is and that one isn’t. And this one just is a dad. But that one looks like, you know, you can’t just say the combatants are all teenage guys with guns. It’s not that simple. There were no politics at all. There was no foolish commander needing a young upstart to show the way. You know that stereotype you see in so many of these movies. There were no action heroes. None of these people were action heroes. There were no comedians. Although they could be a little funny at times, but they weren’t comedians. They’re real. Just real people in an unreal situation. People who felt all pain and all panic, but they followed orders. Do you see what I’m saying? This is not stereotypical of a war movie. Does that make sense?
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s like a war documentary that is being acted. Like live action.
SPEAKER 04 :
Bingo.
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s like you’ve dropped a camera into a real situation. It’s not a movie. It is a lens into something that did happen.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well put. Exactly. And that’s how it felt. We also saw something that’s unpopular with today’s media. The importance of strong men… pulling and carrying wounded out of battle. Now, I’m sorry, but by the way, men, women, whatever, but you better be just as strong. Pete Hegseth would love this movie, okay? He’d be going at this movie going, see? Because I’m telling you… A lot of the girls who we have thought about putting on the front lines simply could not have hauled these guys out. They would have died trying to do it. And this was just something that was really interesting to see. They didn’t hide that at all. The battle scenes are intense. The action is real. The story moves. I like that. It’s all very focused. The true agony of the injuries, that really got me. It showed the hell these soldiers endure so we don’t have to. I mean, it’s one thing to have an IED go off. It’s another thing to have phosphorus burning within you. I mean, my gosh, it’s amazing. Anyway, they didn’t sugarcoat it. It was real. Next, what doesn’t work in warfare? Well, the first third goes too far in showing the tedium before battle. And I understand why they’re doing it. They’re showing you, you know, this is real life. It’s tedious. Report this. Report this. They’re moving here. They’re moving there. They’re moving here. They’re moving there. Now we’re looking at this. Now we’re looking at that. And it’s just, you know, a lot of tedium. But I think they go a little too far in showing you that. And what they’re doing is slowing down the movie. They’re slowing down the pace of the movie. It needed more info on the mission in that area. That would have been interesting. Maybe some mapping. You know, and this is stereotypical of war movies, but, you know, where they show a map and with arrows, this is where this group’s coming in. This is where that group’s. So you kind of know where the pieces are on the board because you don’t really get a feel for where the pieces are on the board. It’s basically you’re in the middle of chaos, which I understand is war. But war has a purpose. Right. OK, good or bad. It could be it could be an unjust purpose. But even that has a purpose. You don’t know where the arrows are going. And I felt a little lost with that. Finally, without a central star, it really didn’t happen. It had several very good young actors who I’ve seen in other things. But without a central star, it’s hard to get viewers to watch it again. to really grab hold of one star. Like a lot of the war movies we’re going to do in our two, which are going to be a lot of fun, by the way, a lot of those war movies had a central star and people can get their mind around that, right? They can watch Bruce Willis and die hard. You know, this didn’t really, this had a bunch of guys working together as a unit, which is also very interesting, but I’m just saying for general audiences, cause that’s who I’m reviewing this for. That might be a little bit of a harder lift. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 06 :
It seems like it’s purely a war movie, and you’re not really getting into the personalities and the people that are actually in the movie.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right, even though there are personalities.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right, but it seems like there’s personalities, and then it clicks, and that’s the entire movie, which I don’t mind. But Will Poulter, who’s in it, he’s been in a couple war movies, but he’s also a comedic actor.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, Will Poulter, by the way, is in a lot of things right now. And he’s one of my favorite young actors these days. This is the third movie I’ve seen him in recently, which is crazy. He’s doing a lot of stuff. Maybe he owes money. I have no idea. But he’s a terrific actor. But there are several. The thing is, is that they do have personalities. But one thing you really see is the second the mission is on, all personalities go. You’re a unit.
SPEAKER 07 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 04 :
You have to work as a team, okay? Yes, you use all your strengths. And there’s a time when even somebody in leadership is just like, I can’t do it, you know, because they’re concussed maybe from a bomb going off or they’ve just been through too much and somebody else has to, boom, pick up the slack right away. It was very, very interesting to watch. Okay. Rotten Tomatoes gave this 94%. Ooh, very nice. Yes. And, you know, the rugged realism of it. They loved it. And the audiences gave it that highest score, too. Now, here’s the thing, though. That means everybody said go to it. I’m going to say go to it. Am I going to put this up there with the great war movies of all time, though? No. I’m going to give it three and a half stars for quality. Why? The things I said. I do believe it took too long to get going. There was too much tedium. And I do believe that it really would have helped give some focus to the movie and really know, not just, yeah, I know bullets are flying, but know what’s happening better if they had used a map or used something and really show us the mission at hand. And they didn’t do much of that. I think it would have helped. So, quality three and a half stars. Political three. Moral religious three. Do I recommend going to Warfare? Yes. Absolutely. I recommend going to Warfare. I think it’s a good watch. And also, it’s not a super long movie, which is nice. I think it’s around an hour forty, hour forty-five. I forget. Are you looking it up, Luke?
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah. Hour thirty-five.
SPEAKER 04 :
Hour 35, okay. Yeah, it was fairly quick. So it moves along. You’re not going to be in there forever. And I believe that Warfare is the kind of movie that might even win some awards.
SPEAKER 06 :
Would you say it was – would you recommend more, the amateur or Warfare, if you had to pick one?
SPEAKER 04 :
Me, Warfare.
SPEAKER 06 :
Perfect.
SPEAKER 04 :
OK, that’s my opinion. Although for me, I kind of, you know, I’m a nerdy guy. So I kind of watch the amateur and I kind of get into the nerdiness of it. But I thought Warfare had a better pace. And here’s a big difference. The amateur, as you see, is around two hours long. I think a touch over. It could have been edited better. Warfare already was. Right. This is just what happened. And Warfare, even though it did drag in the beginning because they were showing the tedious nature, it was not as dragged out as The Amateur. Okay. But they’re both good movies. Folks, the bottom line is you’ve got a couple good movies to see this weekend. Go see one of them. I think you’re going to have a lot of fun. Sound good? Sounds great. All right. And welcome back to Rush to Reason. Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Andy Pate filling in for John Rush along with Tanner Cole and Luke Cash. Did you guys like put your offices next to each other just because of that?
SPEAKER 05 :
No, no. I had my little space, and then Tanner… Invaded? Invaded. He took over, stole some ground.
SPEAKER 04 :
He is kind of a foreign invader.
SPEAKER 05 :
You should see, he’s got a drum kit back there. He’s snatching away on it every day, playing loud rock and roll music.
SPEAKER 04 :
You know, these kids and their rock and roll music.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m the only one that listens to rock and roll nowadays, it seems.
SPEAKER 04 :
Are you?
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m just an old soul, born in the wrong generation.
SPEAKER 04 :
Actually, next week, thinking ahead, in hour two, we’re going to be doing rock bands.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, that’s a good segue. I’m going to claim that I did that intentionally.
SPEAKER 04 :
You two will have a leg up on me in that, just so you know. I listen to Enya only all the time. I’m kidding.
SPEAKER 05 :
Tanner likes Justin Bieber and Evanescence, and those are like his two… I didn’t even know that second one. You don’t know? We did not hang out with the same people in high school. I’m more of a panic at the disco guy. Okay. You really like the crazy metrosexual vibes, huh?
SPEAKER 04 :
Tanner wasn’t allowed around people in high school, just so you know. Now a little bit of an order that came down. Okay, here we go. Yesterday’s impossible question. It’s impossible question time.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right.
SPEAKER 04 :
After I just picked on Tanner.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes. What do we got?
SPEAKER 04 :
I know you two are totally into orchestras and choral symphonies.
SPEAKER 06 :
Hans Zimmer.
SPEAKER 04 :
Hans Zimmer?
SPEAKER 06 :
I went to his concert here when he was here a couple months ago. It was awesome.
SPEAKER 1 :
Oh, nice.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay, be honest. Did he smash a guitar on the floor?
SPEAKER 06 :
We left a little early because it was going late.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay, so you didn’t see that part?
SPEAKER 06 :
No.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. Did he bite the head off a bat or anything like that?
SPEAKER 06 :
No, Ozzy was not in attendance. Okay, wow.
SPEAKER 04 :
Hans, you’re letting me down. Okay, here we go. Which composer’s final symphony is known as the choral symphony? Just pick a famous composer.
SPEAKER 06 :
The Little Mermaid.
SPEAKER 04 :
No, that’s a song. I mean, that’s a movie. That’s all I could get. That’s a movie. A composer.
SPEAKER 06 :
Ariel.
SPEAKER 05 :
The choral symphony? That sounds… You know, like Bach. People like that.
SPEAKER 04 :
Mozart.
SPEAKER 05 :
Beethoven, I think.
SPEAKER 04 :
Mozart. Beethoven. Guess what?
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s Beethoven! It sounded kind of Beethoven.
SPEAKER 04 :
Because you were thinking of the big dog in the movie. sure exactly okay beethoven’s symphony number nine is also known as the choral symphony because beethoven uh he took the highly unorthodox step of writing the fourth movement for the fourth for the four vocal soloists and a chorus setting parts of schiller’s uplifting poem to music i thought it was pretty cool so there you go love me some classical composers beethoven was deaf
SPEAKER 06 :
Yep. Wasn’t Mozart as well, or he had something?
SPEAKER 04 :
No, no, Mozart was a partier.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, I don’t know. I only know the three.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s really, well, Jan Bach was this intensely, intensely religious man. I mean, so devoted to God that he could never even be satisfied with what he wrote because it wasn’t good enough in honoring the Lord. And meanwhile, Mozart was the total opposite. This flamboyant party guy. Just, I mean, nonstop partier. He would fit in with the party crowd today.
SPEAKER 05 :
Speaking of fitting in, I think Beethoven would love modern metal and rock music. Dude, jammed.
SPEAKER 04 :
You know who I would have liked to see play today would be Franz Liszt. The reason is he had unusually long fingers. No, I’m serious. And he was actually kind of bitter about it. He wrote music to where virtually only people like him could play it unless you had really fast hands.
SPEAKER 06 :
I like that.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, it’s kind of interesting. Okay, today’s impossible question. What is the common name for dihydrogen monoxide?
SPEAKER 05 :
Water.
SPEAKER 04 :
Wrong. The answer is Gatorade. Yes, it is Gatorade.
SPEAKER 05 :
Dihydrogen monoxide. It’s two hydrogen, one oxygen. That’s H2O.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, it’s water, obviously. But, you know, Gatorade, you know, that gives you electrolytes. That’s true. You don’t get that from water.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, we should put it in the water fountains, water our crops with it.
SPEAKER 04 :
With Gatorade? You know, if we did, our crops would be so energized they would harvest themselves. Sure.
SPEAKER 06 :
What do you think? They taste pretty good.
SPEAKER 04 :
And they’d be greener unless you put that red kind on there.
SPEAKER 06 :
That would be good. With the animals or livestock, you just pour soda on them and it will taste a lot better.
SPEAKER 04 :
You know, all I know is that John does the Health and Wellness Wednesday every week and I have just destroyed it.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah. I think we should be in charge of the next Health and Wellness Wednesday.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yes, we should because, you know, it’s just too healthy and we can fix that.
SPEAKER 05 :
Too healthy. We need to right some wrongs.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. In the next hour, what is the topic once again, guys? Oh, we’re doing war movies. War movies. War movies. And folks, if you want to call in, it’ll be 303-477-5600. Call in with some war movies. Let’s have some fun with this. Or you can text us at 307-200-8222. That’s 307-200-8222. John Rush will relay it to me. Sounds pretty fun, doesn’t it? Let me ask you really quick here. We’ve got a minute. Why do you like war movies? Is this just a guy thing? It is. Women generally do not like war movies.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, I don’t know. It’s got to be a guy thing.
SPEAKER 06 :
I think the masculinity and just seeing America win is what really drives me. There’s something about brotherhood and dying for a cause that really gets you going. And being, like, up against a wall with your brothers. Impossible odds. Fighting for your lives and your country.
SPEAKER 05 :
Also, like, something gritty, something real.
SPEAKER 06 :
Like, it feels very visceral. Like, I feel like a female when I watch those movies. They’re just so manly. It’s true. I don’t know if I could carry some of the guns.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s quite an admission there, Tanner. You know, when I watch a war movie, I feel pretty. I just want you to know, I do.
SPEAKER 05 :
Tanner watches war movies and feels like a woman. Andy watches us do the show and feels like a woman.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, I just feel outmanned. Right, right. I mean, I can’t rise up to that level.
SPEAKER 06 :
Me, Elton John, and Freddie Mercury are starring in the next big war movie, so get ready.
SPEAKER 05 :
I’m so ready for that one.
SPEAKER 06 :
Tank tops and short shorts, baby. Fighting the bad dudes. Now that would be cool. That would be hilarious.
SPEAKER 04 :
A full army in really short shorts.
SPEAKER 06 :
A full gay army. Imagine how scary that is. Shane Gillis did a bit on that.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, exactly. Okay, honestly, really quick before we go. If you had a full gay army, the other side, would they even fight it? I think they’d run.
SPEAKER 06 :
They’d send a nuke on you with a tutu strapped around it.
SPEAKER 04 :
You guys are so mean. Okay, you’re way too mean. Folks, that’s it for our number one. Once again, our two. Our movie topic is war movies, so give us a call. Until then, keep it right here on Rush to Reason, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m a rich guy.
