SPEAKER 04 :
This is Rush to Reason. You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes. With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 03 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did.
SPEAKER 05 :
Get a job, sir. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 02 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 05 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind? It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. Presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 08 :
Actually, it’s Andy Pate. Party of choice. And welcome to hour number two here on Rush to Reason. I am Andy Pate filling in for John Rush on the line right now. We got Eli Bremmer. Eli, how are you, sir?
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m doing great, Andy. How are you doing today?
SPEAKER 08 :
Pretty good. Pretty good. Um… We just had, and just so you know, I’m going to want some gloating today. Are you able to gloat?
SPEAKER 07 :
I prefer not to, but you know what? For you, I’ll make the exception.
SPEAKER 08 :
I want you to make the exception because we just had a very, very favorable court ruling that happened the other day. And what I would like you to do is, for people who don’t understand what just happened, kind of lay the groundwork and tell them what was going on because there was a group at the Colorado Republican Party, of course, who wanted to sue you and some others to get, I guess, their $100,000 that they wasted on legal fees. Get it back.
SPEAKER 07 :
for them what was going on what happened how is matt arnold involved please make this easy for people because it’s actually a big story actually andy let me let me correct something you just said because it’s actually really important okay they didn’t lose a hundred thousand dollars on this the hundred thousand dollars that came in actually came from the national republicans right and it was designed to go help jeff heard and gabe evans get elected so okay now dave williams took a bunch of money that was sent for other purposes and like a good conservative he is he spent it on himself he gave it to his campaign he found on a salary he gave it to his cronies his uh… they got a favorable ruling from a progressive judge in court which ended our efforts to try to stop what they were doing however the reality of it is what i was doing was designed to help gabe evans and jeff heard and we had their full support in what was going on they got elected it was very successful Fast forward to today. The Davidians lost the state party to Bretta Horne. Bretta’s doing a great job taking over the party now and getting Humpty Dumpty put back together. So what they’re trying to do is retaliate and not recover their $100,000. That was National Republican Congressional Committee funds. Again, I think the last time I was on the show, I said I had offered to release the legal liability of the Davidians if they would simply give that money back. to the candidates where it was supposed to go. Right. So what they did is they prepaid Matt Arnold to file a faulty lawsuit. And, uh, this, it, it, it’s not just that a law. One second.
SPEAKER 08 :
When did, when did they do this? When did they prepay Matt Arnold?
SPEAKER 07 :
Uh, just before Britta Horne took office, just before she got elected. And so they prepaid him and obviously he did no services at the time. And then afterwards he used that retainer to Sue Britta and me and others and say, I’m trying to recover on behalf of the Republican Party, which is weird because Britta is now the chair of the Republican Party. So he said, basically, I’m representing you suing yourself, and there’s nothing you can do about it. And if that sounds strange to you, then you’re completely in line with the court because the court looked at it and threw it out faster than we had even expected. We knew it was going to get thrown out. So it not only did it get thrown out, our attorney has advised Matt Arnold we will be pursuing him personally for legal fees. We had to pay some legal fees to get his frivolous lawsuit dismissed. Now, is he going to pay? Probably not. He’s a deadbeat. He doesn’t carry insurance. And again, as a reminder, this is who the state party hired, is someone who intentionally has no ability to undo the damage that they caused. So, you know, on the one hand, maybe there’s a bit of gloating. On the other hand, I also want to point out how just ludicrous the situation is. that no one should ever hire an attorney who can’t get insurance. But this was what was going on with the party. I mentioned last time Dave Piggott. I believe we’re going to be going after him for sanctions as well. He lied to a judge. I went to the Air Force Academy. This guy went to West Point. He should have his ring taken away because any service academy grad who lies to a judge to get a faulty ruling, which then the judge has to overturn, frankly needs to get sanctioned. And so there will be some accountability.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, Eli, there’s not enough gloating here. I need more gloating, and here’s why. Because these guys, look, they wanted to sue, they wanted the party to sue the current chair of the party along with you and several other members. By the way, KBB was included in this. She had nothing to do with the coup, okay? I have no idea why they include her. But this is crazy. They wanted… to have this lawsuit launched by a committee that they put in place, which was headed by Matt Arnold, called the Anti-Corruption Committee, correct?
SPEAKER 07 :
The irony that the most corrupt people I’ve ever run into, which is saying something. I’ve been involved with international sports. These are the most corrupt people I’ve ever run into, and they appoint the Anti-Corruption Committee. This would be like the Democrats having the Free Market Committee or the Free Elections Committee. That doesn’t work.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, to make this easy for people to understand, think two words, deep state, okay? Think about how the Biden administration left behind a deep state to make things hard on the Trump administration that came in after them, right? Activist judges, we just had two, we were talking about in hour one in New Mexico and in Wisconsin, right? Who are trying to break the law and so forth. Basically, a lot of parts of the deep state trying to use lawfare to hold up the Trump administration’s agenda. Well, Dave did the exact same thing, trying to leave deep state in the Colorado Republican Party in the form of Matt Arnold over this anti-corruption committee that could still oppose the new leadership and try to squeeze them for $100,000 in legal fees when… Nobody forced Dave to ever spend the legal fees. All he had to do was hold a vote. We have to keep in mind, Eli, we have to keep in mind, he spent all that money to delay or stop a vote that was later ruled to be totally legal by the courts. The courts ruled that vote was legal. So he spent $100,000 to stop something that was legal.
SPEAKER 07 :
Go ahead. And Andy, this is a man who can’t hold down a job. So he paid himself, I think, well over $100,000 to take this money. Then he paid his cronies tens and tens and tens of thousands of dollars.
SPEAKER 08 :
Wait, who are you talking about, Dave or Matt?
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, Dave is the one who paid himself. And then he paid all of his cronies, Eric Grossman, who’s on the Central Committee. Huge conflicts of interest here. But to be clear, I didn’t have a victory here. Republicans had a victory. This is never about me. This is about getting a majority in the House. And we’ve got that. We have Speaker Mike Johnson because Colorado Republicans elected Gabe Evans and they elected Jeff Hurd, and that’s why we have a Republican majority. So these people were operating like Democrats. They wanted us to lose the majority. This wasn’t my win, Andy. This was Republicans’ win. And it was Colorado Republicans and it’s National Republicans.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, but… Now that Britta Horne has defeated the Davidians and taken over the Colorado Republican Party so that it can now serve our candidates and actually serve all Republicans. OK, all aspects of Republicans serve them all equally favor none. Now that that has happened, their last gasp effort. to hurt her, to wreck her, was trying to keep this lawsuit. And the only way they could do it, because obviously she came into office and she’s like, I’m not going to sue myself. We’re going to drop this. This is ridiculous. Why would I sue myself? Okay. I mean, people don’t do that. And so she was going to drop it. And Matt Arnold was going to prolong this lawsuit by inserting himself into it. And he just got laughed out of court. Is that not what happened?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, this is, I mean, this is just so patently obvious what they’re doing. They lost. It is, like you said, it’s the deep state. Right. And no court in the country is taking up whatever, they can’t even find an absurd judge anymore who will ever hear this stuff. They’re going to get lots of sanctions on them. I wouldn’t be surprised if an attorney or two even gets to the point where they might have a law license problem. But that’s how bad this is. And what Britta is focusing on is what she should be focusing on. In one word, it’s winning. OK, we have got to defend Gabe Evans’ seat. One hundred percent. We’ve got to defend that seat. Jeff Hurds as well. That’s going to be a little bit easier. But the Democrats still may go after him. I think the Davidians may try to push primaries there. So Britta’s doing what she should do. and what we all need to support her in doing. And this faction of the party, they’ve always been in it for themselves. It’s about them making power and money at the expense of our conservative values.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, bottom line is this, and this is why I want the gloating. The Davidians, the Rhino Watch crowd, this was their last gasp effort. to cause damage. This was their last gasp effort to hurt the people who swept them out of leadership at the Colorado Republican Party, and they lost. And now they’ve got nothing.
SPEAKER 07 :
I don’t think it’s going to be their last gasp, though, Andy. It’s not going to be their last gasp. They’re like vampires, man. They’re going to keep coming back. At the end of the day, Andy, they don’t have anything else productive to do. They don’t have productive jobs. Their entire life is obstructing conservative Republicans from getting elected.
SPEAKER 08 :
It was sweet, though, watching them go down.
SPEAKER 07 :
Be honest. It was. I’m not going to lie. I’m not going to lie.
SPEAKER 08 :
Eli, you’ve got to spike the ball right now, baby. You’ve got to spike the ball because this was too good. What we have just seen is some very bad hombres get shut down in court, and now the good people who have taken over the Colorado Republican Party and want to serve all Republicans statewide and not just their little group, but everybody equally, Now, those people led by Britta Horne can go forward and serve the people.
SPEAKER 07 :
And I think it’s fantastic. Hashtag winning. That’s where we’re going. Because people talk about unity. This will unify. When you have a Republican Party led by Britta Horne, who is going to be about winning elections… Everyone can unify. All of your listeners can rest easy until the next caucus because these folks are going to rear their ugly heads again and try to say we want to take over the party for our own benefit. But for right now, we are on a great track, and I’m so proud of Britta and all that she’s doing.
SPEAKER 08 :
Fantastic. Okay, let’s take a break. When we come back, I purposefully did not talk about the raid that happened in Colorado Springs this weekend because I wanted you to talk about it. Sound good? SPEAKER 08 :
putting reason into your afternoon drive this is john rush and welcome back to rush reason denver’s afternoon rush klz 560 andy pate filling in for john rush online right now we got eli bremer eli got about six minutes six and a half maybe can you tell me what happened in colorado springs yesterday we started with an arrest early in the morning over a hundred illegal immigrants many were
SPEAKER 07 :
Trende Aragua, MS-13, you know, these terrorist gangs that are up here. They were arrested at a nightclub right here in Colorado Springs, about two miles from the airport. So incredible work by the Trump administration, our law enforcement. You know, it was a very, very good unified effort to bring these career criminal illegal immigrants to justice. Now, you would think… andy that everybody in our community would be rejoicing that we had a hundred criminal terrorist illegal immigrants apprehended yeah i think that’s a good thing you would think that’s a good thing so so today the el paso county democrat party comes out and denounces it and and calls call on it i mean anything why how could they denounce this why well i you know their their their reasons were sort of Strange to me, shall we say? I mean, let me see. They said city and county leadership failed their constituents by refusing to call for restraint, compassion, or due process for the very residents they represent. Residents, including U.S. citizens, are at real risk of wrongful detention, deportation, and imprisonment.
SPEAKER 09 :
Or worse.
SPEAKER 08 :
Eli, let me ask you something. How does it work when you are any kind of law enforcement and you are dealing with people of the savage nature of Trendy Aragua? How does restraint work?
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, I don’t think you need a lot of restraint when you’re dealing with them because if you’re saying should a law enforcement hero risk their life to have a Trendy Aragua gangster from out of the country… to have them be a little safer. The answer is a clear no to me. I go ahead and sign with law enforcement on that. But this is really bad. I mean, they’re basically saying the El Paso County Democrat Party is saying that my security, my 10-year-old son’s security, that doesn’t matter. What matters is the people who came into our country without our permission, who came into my city without my permission, probably are on government services here. that their rights are more important than my right to life, liberty, and property. And you know what? I’m going to bet the ACLU is going to come in on this, the American Civil Liberties Union, and say, we want to protect the illegals and… and the community members in Colorado Springs, their safety is not important. I mean, Andy, this has just gotten ridiculous.
SPEAKER 08 :
You know, what impresses me is this. I think they were very restrained. And what I mean is this. Eli, they immediately let go anyone who was here legally and did not have a warrant. Boom.
SPEAKER 07 :
All of them freed. That’s right. But also… But there’s some other concerning things about this. We’re now finding out there were a number of active duty service members who were at the nightclub hanging out with these folks.
SPEAKER 08 :
Now, were they hanging out with them or were they doing security? I thought they were doing security.
SPEAKER 07 :
The reports are saying security. I’m reading between the lines and realizing that this should never have been happening. And it’s raising concerns to me over how substantial this infiltration from these groups that Donald Trump has rightfully called foreign terrorist organizations. They’re palling around with members of our military. This was not at a nightclub. Okay, it was reported that it was at a nightclub. It was actually at a warehouse in an industrial district.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, yeah, and you and I both know we’ve been in the military. I never did it, but I knew guys in the military who were, let’s say, SPs, special police. And some of them had some jobs on the side that they would do to make some extra money. And it was fine, right?
SPEAKER 07 :
There’s nothing wrong with that.
SPEAKER 08 :
And they would do it as security, and maybe they just got a security gig.
SPEAKER 07 :
No. When you’re in a warehouse district at 3 o’clock in the morning with a whole bunch of people that clearly are not American citizens… Fair enough. …who are exchanging drugs, exchanging weapons… I agree with you.
SPEAKER 08 :
I was just trying to play devil’s advocate to weed out any concerns.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, but Andy, what this goes to show is truly how dangerous this immigrant crisis has become. Right. Because it’s not just… With all deference to my friends up in Aurora, those of us down here sort of thought that that was your problem up there. Well, guess what? We got it down here, number one. Number two, they’re palling up with our military, and that’s very, very dangerous. And I’m proud of the work that Secretary Hegseth is doing in the military. I’m proud of the cultural change that he’s pushing because this is such a major problem. And then you’ve got the Democrat Party. I mean, this is the party who doesn’t know the difference between a boy and a girl. And who says a boy can be a girl. And now they’re saying that illegal immigrants, you know, have rights that we as American citizens, you know, we have to give up our rights so they can have their rights. Well, guess what? You’re here in my country. This is our country. And I’ve helped lots of people, Andy, I think you know, I’ve helped a lot of people immigrate legally to the United States who have become great citizens of our country. A number of them are Olympians and have now served in the U.S. military. I’m pro-immigrant. I am very against illegal immigrants and the danger that this causes.
SPEAKER 08 :
I totally agree. Okay, we got about 30, 40 seconds left. Last question. What does this say about the authorities who are already here in Colorado who look the other way? I mean, they got weapons and drugs at this place. What does this say about the cops? What does this say about the governor? What does this say about Colorado that the feds had to come in under Trump and bust this?
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, we got problems, and there’s a saying, you don’t get the leadership you want, you get the leadership you deserve. So this goes right back to remember to vote in the next election, support Britta Horne, and let’s get some great Republicans out there, because this is not going to get fixed until we win an election.
SPEAKER 08 :
Eli Bremer, you’re a great patriot, sir. Thanks for joining us. All right. Thanks, Andy. You bet. Take care. Folks, after the break, we’re going to talk to Richard Rush. Putting reason into your afternoon drive. This is John Rush. And welcome back to Rush to Reason. Dead for us afternoon, Rush. KLZ 560, Andy Pate filling in for John Rush. And online right now, we got Richard Rush. Richard, what a draft.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, you know, Andy, we sort of talked about it last week, right? Sort of lacked a little bit of star power, although I know we’ll talk about the trade of Travis and that sort of thing. But then if it wasn’t for the Shador story, I don’t know. It would have been a pretty mundane Friday and Saturday night, you know, Andy? Friday night and Saturday day.
SPEAKER 08 :
I believe it would. By the way, first of all, I was gloating in the last segment. I’m going to gloat again. We hit the first seven picks in a row. Did you notice that? We did. We were on it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Although we did not foresee Cleveland being, I guess the history will tell, Andy. Did Cleveland pull another Julio Jones where they gave up a lot to, or I guess they got a lot, but they gave up a generational talent? I think Cleveland. Remember Atlanta traded with Cleveland to get Julio Jones.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right. Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
I personally think… They didn’t really give back anyone.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, and we’ll talk about this in the next segment when we talk about what teams did well, what teams did poorly. I think Cleveland absolutely knocked it out of the park. I think they rescued their team. I think they did exactly what they needed to do. They were fantastic. I mean, they were draft… juggernauts. It was incredible watching them work. They robbed the Jaguars. They absolutely did. But first we got to talk a little Shador because Richard, you and I, we’ve been watching this draft thing for decades. Okay. I have never seen, I mean, just a few weeks ago, you thought Shador could go number three to the giants just last week. I had him going number nine to the saints. I mean, look, just talent wise ability to read the field, deliver the ball, get it in the hands of your playmakers. I mean, this guy is a first round talent. Okay. And yet, because apparently all the teams decided he’s a jerk. He drops into the fifth round, and here’s what really gets me. The guy has no rap sheet. The guy has no drug problem. The guy has no string of girls who are pregnant. The guy has nothing wrong with… He lives a good life, okay? All he had was bad interviews. How can you have a pure life, a good lifestyle? I don’t know if he’s pure, but, you know, a pretty good lifestyle, nothing really bad. And, you know, have a great college career, have everything going for you, and then do so poorly in interviews that you drop to the fifth round. Richard, please, my football guru, make sense of this for me.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m not sure I can make sense, Andy. Well, I’ll try to make sense from a football standpoint because I heard it on one of the other shows, and we sort of speculated about this last week. Sacks. Sacks more and more are becoming a quarterback stat versus an offensive line stat, right? Got to get rid of the ball. And I know he had a bad line. You trust me. I watched it for the last two years. They were terrible. It was about as poor of an offensive line as you could get. However, I’ll say about 50% of those sacks, were potentially, and I’m not saying all that way, but were potentially a result of him just holding on to it for one reason or another, right? And maybe it was to make a play. Maybe it was he didn’t want his completion percentage to go down. Maybe he didn’t want… You know, an interception to happen. Whatever you could argue, Andy, there was just – he took too many sacks. And in today’s NFL, if you recall, that’s what Sean Payton actually said about Russell Wilson, basically. True. He took too many sacks. Okay, but wait, wait, wait. And coaches warn more and more, Andy, with analytics, because I think you and I have talked about this before – Statistics show and analytics show if a quarterback takes a sack on a possession, I want to say even if it’s first, second, and obviously third down, it ruins the possession. But first or second down, I think it reduces the odds of completing or of that drive ending up in points or success by like 80%. It’s insane. Basically, if you take a sack as a quarterback, you lose that possession.
SPEAKER 08 :
It’s almost an interception.
SPEAKER 06 :
It almost is. Well, in some cases, it’s almost worse, at least with an interception. If it’s way down the field, you can sort of flip field possession, right? With the sack, you’re giving yards, all sorts of things. And so I think that’s kind of reason number one. Reason number two, Andy. Well, one second.
SPEAKER 08 :
Before you move on from reason number one, I’ve got to say one thing, though. Everything you just said was 100% correct. But I got to see, you know, I’m not a CU fan, but I got to see part of a game. I watched some of, what was it, Oregon? Yeah. They were in on him so fast. How are you supposed to dump the ball off? I mean, I can understand he was taking sacks, but dude, I mean, he was taking heat. They were just running wind sprints at him.
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely. And like I said, now, the other, well, point two sort of ties into point one, right? Point two, again, heard this elsewhere, is that the offense was too catered to Shador. It was too catered to success. And so if there was, you know, so basically like, You have this many sacks. Yeah, you had good numbers, but not as many good numbers as you maybe would have had the offense. Just kind of a combination. I’m with you, though. Again, I think the sacks are fixable. Andy, I will say this. For teams like the Browns, like the Giants, like the Saints, no offense, I don’t see Tyler Shuck in the second round, I believe, is when they went up and they came and grabbed him. I don’t think he’s that good. He’s not worth it. To me, a flyer on Shador… Now, granted, Andy, I also get this point, right? Because we kind of heard this in the draft, which is… Once you get to the second and third round, and obviously even deeper, those quarterbacks, you’re sort of taking flyers, right? Kirk Cousins was never drafted with the intent to be a starter. Now, I know that Shanahan came out after and said that he was, but let’s be honest, right? If they envisioned Kirk being who he was, you take him high second, first. I know there was lots of stuff with RGC.
SPEAKER 08 :
If they envisioned him being what he was, they would have taken him in the first. You’re totally right. That was just coach speak.
SPEAKER 06 :
Exactly, Andy. And so I don’t understand why some of these other teams… And honestly, I do give the Browns credit for this. Whether you want to argue it was a favor to Deion by Haslam or their quarterback, Coach Bill Musgrave, or anything of that nature, I don’t know, Andy. All I can say is, to me, you take a flyer on him. And that flyer, for me, would have come in the back half of the third round. I would have traded up the last pick of the third round snagged him right because to me he’s worth it at that point in time there’s no there’s no player that you’re going to get there that’s going to be better because that was the other argument you heard right andy is that well you know you can get another you know there’s lots of depth at other positions like you and i talked about in this draft and so you can get another really talented player but i and i’m going to let you jump in because i know you you have your opinions too i just I don’t think it was all one thing, Andy. I think it was a combination. I think the interview thing was sort of a convenient excuse. And ultimately, though, Andy, the beauty about the NFL, which I think is the closest thing to the real world as possible, he can prove every single person, every single draft pundit, except for Mel Kuyper, he can prove everyone wrong just by going out and succeeding. Because if he goes out and wins, Andy, then the entire NFL – has egg on their faces because they didn’t pick him, right?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, and in fact, I’m not going to weigh in with my opinion because I agree with you. You just gave my opinion, okay? That’s how I feel. I think Cleveland got a steal. That doesn’t mean he’ll pan out, but I think the talent and ability there for what they got in the fifth round, you’ve got to be kidding me. Okay, really quick. That is the thing, Andy. Go ahead. Yeah, go ahead. We’ve got to go to the Broncos, though, because there’s people out there listening right now wondering, what did we get at the store? And I’m telling you what, your Broncos got a steal in the first round. I said this on Friday. I’ll say it again. What a steal. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, I agree with you. I mean, I’ll be honest, Andy. When it happened on Thursday, I looked at it and I said, man, I’m not sure that I like that. We don’t need a corner. It sort of reminds me of when the Broncos took Bradley Roby when we had Aqib Khalid and Chris Harris. And so I’m like, I’m just not sure that I’m on board with this, right? I’m not sure I can make sense of this.
SPEAKER 08 :
I know, but you and I, we mocked him number 13 to the Dolphins, and you guys got him at 22.
SPEAKER 06 :
That is sweet. I will say this, and this is me. Honestly, I didn’t pay much attention because I didn’t think the Broncos would have a chance at it. But after listening to his interviews— After listening to just him talk in general, he just seems like an upstanding guy. He seems like he’s a respectable guy. I think he’s going to do whatever the team wants him to do. He’s going to do whatever the defense wants him to do, whatever Vance Joseph. just from his cover skills as a whole, Andy, I have a really, really hard time being upset with the pick because ultimately, Andy, in the AFC as a whole, not even the AFC West, you know, because obviously we have a hard, hard, probably maybe the toughest division in all of football outside of your NFC North.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, our division is, but go ahead.
SPEAKER 06 :
I mean, but just in terms of top flight quarterback talent, I mean, outside of the Raiders, you know, you have Geno, but You still have confident quarterbacks. Anyways, Andy, you’ve got to be – yes, you have to score, which we’ll kind of talk about a few of their other picks too. You’ve got to be able to score and do some of that. But, Andy, ultimately you have to stop them. And last year, as we got later in the year, injuries happened. For example, Riley Moss, our starting outside corner, he got hurt a little bit. And even Patrick Sertan was hurt a little bit. And that sort of allowed defenses to go after us, right? Not anymore. You saw the Eagles and Gilborough attack us. Well, that’s the key, Andy, right? Now it’s hard to find an open spot in the defense between safety and corners and your pass rush. I mean, it’s a pretty fierce defense.
SPEAKER 08 :
Richard, I’ve got to ask you a personal question here, okay? Do you use one of those shrinker things where you get some stakes and you want them to last a long time, so you put them in plastic and you shrink it down with the air thing and then you seal it, vacuum seal them? Yeah. Okay. As tight as the plastic is around those stakes when you vacuum seal them, That’s how tight your secondary is going to be around wide receivers when they face Denver. I’m telling you what, you have a blanket for a secondary now. I mean, you have a blanket. If I play you guys, I’m running. I ain’t throwing. I’m just saying.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, and that’s the thing, Andy. Now, again, I will say this. I think that we did address some of the offense. Although, I mean, we would like to see more. Although, I think that Sean Payton will be creative. And if you actually look at his offenses traditionally, he doesn’t invest a lot of high-round picks in skill positions, right? He looks for guys that fit in. the mold that he’s looking for. And then he kind of drops them in and, and does that. And so it’s not shocking to me, but yeah, I’m with you again. I think that this team got stronger. We still have some proving to do both. Got to take a leap in his second year. And I think that sort of gets overlooked sometimes because it’s always like, well, let’s get weapons for the quarterback, get weapons for the quarterback. Andy, I would say he’s got to take the next step this year because look at CJ Stroud this last year, right? He sort of fell back to the pack. But Andy, I’m with you. But that’s not the norm.
SPEAKER 08 :
Usually the year two is a leap, not regression. CJ, that was a bad thing. I don’t expect that with Bo.
SPEAKER 06 :
And I hope you’re right, Amy. But on Barron and that pick as a whole, you just listen. He’s the kind of guy I want on my team every day out of the week and twice on Sundays. He just seems like he’s ready to go. I don’t know. It’s hard to describe. I just really like who he is as a person, it seems like.
SPEAKER 08 :
I’ll just say this. Jaday Barron, here it is, folks, for those who don’t know the kid. He’s fast, very fast. He is a blanket. He’s not just one of these speed guys. He can cut on a dime, and he mirrors a receiver beautifully. The only thing is he’s not huge. He’s not like one of these 6’1 guys who can just blanket you all over the place like you’ve got on the other side. Doesn’t matter. He can play inside. He can play outside. He is a gem. But tell you what, let’s take a break. When we come back, I want you to really quick just spend a couple minutes telling people how the Broncos did the rest of the draft. I thought they did well. And then we’re going to talk about who did well and who sucked. Sound good? Perfect. Okay, up next is Kevin Flesch-Law. Kevin Flesch, that’s F-L-E-S-C-H. We inform you. Now, back to Rush to Reason. And welcome back to Rush to Reason. Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Andy Pate filling in for John Rush on the line. We’ve got Richard Rush. Richard, outside of a wonderful first-round pick, what did you guys get?
SPEAKER 06 :
We got, well, outside of the first-round pick, Andy, we got a running back, R.J. Harvey out of UCF, who’s sort of what… Yes, quick guy, kind of a bowling. Well, kind of a, you know, Maurice Jones through, I hate to say Darren Sproles, Andy, because Darren Sproles was so special. But that kind of a player, and I think that’s maybe what Sean Payton, who had Darren Sproles, obviously, in New Orleans for all those years, maybe envisions for him. And so I think he’ll be, honestly, the more I look into him, Andy, and see you did play him, and he burned us deep, and he was actually a really good player. So ultimately, I think that he’ll be a great pickup. In the third round, we kind of got a, I’ll say a developmental deep, you’re kind of an edge player, sort of an edge rusher type of a guy, but he’s kind of a do-it-all. He’s a little bit immature in a lot of ways. What’s his name? Whoa, Andy, you’re getting me. What is his name? You got it pulled up.
SPEAKER 08 :
No, I don’t, actually.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s okay. Don’t worry about it.
SPEAKER 08 :
What kind of player is he? Go ahead. Third round.
SPEAKER 06 :
I guess that I think he’s a – not your complete game wrecker, Andy, but I think maybe that’s who they envision for him, right? I think that they envision him to be kind of that defensive line, all-around guy. He can stop the run. He can rush the passer. He’s got a lot of different talents that way that maybe not a lot of people kind of saw. And he wasn’t mocked into a – to them maybe is the right way andy and then in the fourth round hold on i’m kind of pulling up everyone else so real quick name andy our third round pick was savion jones and i also forgot about a guy that maybe is one of my actually our favorite picks andy pat bryant wide receipt wide receiver out of illinois some people are comparing him to michael thomas andy which again is another sean payton player out of new orleans yeah bryant from what i saw from what i saw he has fly paper for hands And that’s the key, Andy. If he’s not a burner, he’s not going to wow you. But when you need a catch and a critical third down, he’s going to get it for you. And I think that that’s what Sean Payton was looking for. Round four, we took a really developmental guy, Q Robinson. He plays special teams, which a lot of times, Andy, out of – you know how that works kind of in the fourth, fifth rounds. You are looking for those guys who can play special teams. But he has the talent, I think, to potentially develop into a pass rusher. And then we actually took a punter, Andy – In the sixth round, an Australian-born punter, which we needed one. We lost our punter in the offseason, and so I’m actually not too upset with that pick. And then, Andy, round seven, here’s an interesting one for you. We took a guy who has five career catches. All of those catches resulted in points, four of them for touchdowns, one of them for a two-point conversion. Wow.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, that’s a nice ratio.
SPEAKER 06 :
So he’s a tight end out of Utah, does not have a lot of experience, Andy, but basically he’s a basketball player. And does that remind you of anyone? Maybe a Jimmy Graham who was just a basketball player in college? It does. and got taken by one Sean Payton and transformed into one of the better receiving tight ends of all time.
SPEAKER 08 :
It sounds like you had a pretty good haul. Let’s really quick here. We’ve got about five, six minutes. I’ve got to say, I’m going to praise the Cleveland Browns. What a draft! They had the No. 2 pick. They had Travis Hunter sitting right there. They traded down to No. 5 with the Jaguars, and they still got Mason Graham. who is in that next tier right below Travis Hunter, right? Mason Graham’s an awesome player, and he’s a defensive tackle right in the middle of their defensive line where they’ve already got great pass rushers. And then they got a first-round pick next year on top of it, plus an extra pick this year. I mean, I love that the Jaguars got Travis Hunter. That’s great, but they gave up way too much. Way too much. You know as well as I do, the Jaguars are not going to be winning the Super Bowl next year. They’re probably going to be a pretty good pick, and the Browns just loaded up good for them. What do you think?
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, Andy, I’m with you. The fact that they got what they got is pretty insane and pretty crazy, to be honest with you. I wasn’t expecting that. However, like I said, the biggest thing that I can’t say, and sorry, I have a parrot behind me. The biggest thing that I’m not sure of, Andy, is Does Travis Hunter become the truly generational player that a lot of people think that he can be? And if he does that, what does that bring to them? Then it’s worth it. And what did they give up as a result of that?
SPEAKER 08 :
Right. I mean, if he becomes the next Dion. And then some. You know what I mean? Okay, then it’s worth it. But that’s saying an awful lot, Richard. Right now, he’s still a prospect. And he’s a great prospect, but he’s a prospect. Another team I thought did well was the Raiders, of all teams. They stood at six and took Genti, as we said they would. So they got a great running back. In the third round, they got two offensive linemen, both in the third round. And they got a good defender in the second round. The Raiders loaded up pretty good. Here’s one in your division I feel bad for you. Josh Simmons actually went to the Chiefs. And if he gets healthy, he is one of the top two or three left tackles in this division. I mean, in this draft. And the Chiefs desperately needed that.
SPEAKER 06 :
They did. They had to take a chance, though, right? Because like you say, if he’s healthy or not, right, Andy? Yeah. And maybe even it takes a year. To your point, and you and I kind of talked about him, of maybe him even going sooner because of – of a team willing to take an opportunity to take him yeah and obviously the chiefs sort of saw the ability or the option the opportunity i should say to say hey you know what we’re going to take him because we did sign the kid out of san francisco in the draft and that gives us an opportunity to maybe you know if that guy doesn’t work out maybe this guy will and andy they have to right because that was that was one that’s been one of their biggest
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, look what happened when you guys played them. You guys were just flying in there. Forget you guys. Look at the Eagles. I mean, they had to get a left tackle. Josh Simmons looks like he was constructed in a lab to be a left tackle if he’s healthy.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yes, absolutely, and that is a – and, Andy, again, I think that’s a key. And Andy Reid and those guys are some of the best drafters out there, although they – I don’t know, you could argue maybe they got it wrong because they did take – I think they got – they took the tackle last year, right? They moved up for the Penn State kid? Yeah. Or maybe that was in the second round. Either way, Andy, they’ve got to get it right because you’ve got to keep Mahomes upright because if you do that, it really doesn’t matter what receivers he has. He’s going to find someone open, and he’s going to be able to deliver the ball. Back to what you were saying, Andy, on the Browns really quick. I will say this. If Travis Hunter is like Deion, but maybe he’s even better, maybe he’s a really good corner, really good receiver, and I think the Browns’ plan is to use him almost equally on both sides of the ball, which would be fascinating if they can figure out how to do that. I wouldn’t do that. I’m with you. But if he can be an all-pro at both positions, and obviously that is a massive if, Andy, because it’s never happened before. Well, then he’s worth it. then he’s absolutely worth it and you moved up to get him. If not, and at the same time, Andy, Cleveland gave themselves a good shot. I know people are saying they passed up on him, but they also gave themselves two chances next year in a class that could be loaded. with quarterbacks, but is arguably, or not even arguably, probably on the consensus, Andy, a much better overall draft than this year was, at least on the surface.
SPEAKER 08 :
All right, we got just under a minute here. Shadur again. He went to Cleveland. Now, I think he went to a perfect situation. He’s obviously going to be humbled by what has happened. I think there’s a chance he goes in there and starts sometime this year. Am I wrong?
SPEAKER 06 :
No, because to me, if you’re the Browns, I don’t know why you wouldn’t. For me, you should be as terrible as you possibly could this next year because depending on what the Jaguars do, whether they’re good, bad, or otherwise, probably in the middle of the first round pick, which still has value, but you have every incentive to be terrible this next year. You’re likely going to cut Deshaun Watson after the year. Outside of cutting him, you’re not really going anywhere. Yes, you have Miles Garrett. Yes, you’re kind of getting some talent on the defensive side of the ball. Andy, it pays to just get everything else in order. Start Shador, see what you’ve got, and if he’s not it, you don’t hardly owe him anything. You can cut him after the year if it’s a problem. So I’m with you, Andy. Honestly, I would probably start him out of the gate, feed him to the wolves and see what he does.
SPEAKER 08 :
I agree, and one last thing here. I thought Shador was the most ready-to-play quarterback in this draft, and they got him in Cleveland. Why not play him? I totally agree. Richard, thank you so much. We’ll talk to you on Friday. Sounds good. Thank you. OK, take care, folks. That is it for our number two and our three. It’s our Monday Mortgage Minute. And then Jersey Joe joins me for all the latest news and fun. Until then, keep it right here on Rush to Reason, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 1 :
I’m a rich guy.
