SPEAKER 04 :
Welcome to Sportsman Colorado. Thank you so much for joining us today. Hey, we’ve got a great show in store for you. First of all, I want to wish everyone a great Labor Day weekend. And I hope you enjoy a safe one, and we appreciate you being with us. Just a quick reminder now, if you miss our live show on Saturdays, you can catch us on Sundays at 8 in the morning, 8 at night. Then the following Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. So we’re actually on four times a week. here with Sportsman of Colorado, and hopefully one of those times will work out for you. And, of course, you can get our podcast wherever you get yours. Well, it’s been a little bit since this gentleman has been with us, and that’s been 1,000% my fault. But Travis Peacock, he is the owner of Airgun Outdoors. And Parker, their number is 720-603-3099. It’s airgunoutdoors.com. And Travis and I met several years ago, and I tell you, got into the air gun space finally, and I’m telling you, it’s a blast. So before I go any further, proper introduction, Travis Peacock. How are you, sir? Hey, doing well, Scott. How are you? Good to see you. And we’re coming to you live from the world headquarters here of Aragog. We stopped by and just said, hey, let’s just do the show here at your store. So we’re doing that today. So if you hear a phone ring or a doorbell go off here, hey, we are in the showroom here. They are located, by the way, at 12543 North State Highway 86, right? 83, I’m sorry, yeah. And really, it’s Parker Road, okay, not to confuse anything, okay? And so, hey, pretty easy to find and all. And once again, if you have not looked at air guns in a while, this is a must stop. You must come over and look. So, Travis, first of all, it has been a while since you’ve been on. Let’s tell folks a little bit about yourself. Everybody thinks of a gun store, but needless to say, very few have thought about opening an air gun store. So how’d this all come about?
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, thanks for having me on, Scott. You bet. So I opened the store about four years ago. I’m a retired IT consultant, so this was my fun job. I’ve always been involved with outdoors air guns for about the last 20 years. Like these type of air guns, not… You know, most people think of air guns. They think of the stuff we grew up with, you know, thinking in the art and stuff. Benjamin Crossman, .22 caliber, pump it ten times. Right. Yeah, totally different world, as you know now. But, yeah, it’s just – it was – early to really retire so i wanted to do something and something i enjoyed this time so that’s why i opened the store and it’s been great i’ve met so many great people um and that you know my favorite part of the job is sharing the hobby with people because as you know 90 of the people that are not familiar with these guns they just they have no idea what they are You know, as you know, they’re outstanding accuracy. They’re quiet. And in my shop, I go from 17 to 50 caliber. Wow. So, yeah, it’s quite a wide range.
SPEAKER 04 :
And I guess with like anything, you know, if you get into something, you know, whether it’s just shooting maybe at a range or you get into archery, you know, there’s kind of a great community in each one of these sectors. And there is an air gun community here in the area.
SPEAKER 08 :
Colorado area in there. Yeah, and that’s something I’m trying to grow a little bit. Every first Saturday of the month I have a thing called Good Morning Airguns where I bring in coffee and donuts and local airgun guys come in or even just people that are interested in getting more information and checking things out. So the first Saturday of every month at 9 a.m., there’s a group that get together and we sit and eat donuts and drink coffee and BS about air guns.
SPEAKER 04 :
What a great way to start a Saturday. Exactly.
SPEAKER 08 :
Guns, donuts, and coffee.
SPEAKER 04 :
You’re all good. You know, you mentioned with kids and things. I just want to kind of start there because sometimes you’ll see things where somebody puts them on with a kid shooting a 12-gauge shotgun. It’s just too much for them, and the kid’s scared, and everybody thinks it’s funny, but we both know it’s not the right thing to do for kids. This is something that, hey, you know. you live kind of maybe with neighbors around, different things like that, and you want to get your kid into shooting and teach them some safety practices, how to shoot, accuracy and all. Man, what a great way to start with air guns.
SPEAKER 08 :
Definitely. And I have a lot of customers that once they come in and purchase a gun, then they realize, hey, this is the perfect avenue to get my kids and my whole family shooting safety. Um, no, no recoil, um, next to no noise. They’re extremely quiet. A lot of times the impact of what you’re shooting is louder than the shot. Um, so, you know, I’ve had, uh, I’ve had tons of kids come in and they’re so excited because dad let me shoot by, you know, his air gun. And now they’re like, Hey, when I get a little older, can I get one? And, you know, so it’s, yeah, I love that part. It’s, you know, keeping kids in the outdoors or getting them started and, you know, um, Yeah, we’ve all seen the videos online where somebody throws a 12-gauge in a 10-year-old’s hand, and after they shoot it, they don’t want to shoot anymore. So we don’t want that. We want kids to love the outdoors.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. Once again, Travis Peacock is with us. It’s Airgun Outdoors. And as I mentioned, they’re located at 12543 Legal Address, North State Highway 83. But it’s really just right off Parker Road here. What’s this road? Pine Lane. Pine Lane.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah, right here.
SPEAKER 04 :
and parker all right let’s kind of talk about i mean man we live in an area where you talk about cow it’s a problem you know a lot of rabbits eating people’s gardens different things and hey some people deal with them in some ways some people deal with them and others and air guns work well Exactly. So let’s talk about what’s legal because there may be some people out there, you know, what is legal in the state of Colorado as we speak?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, first and foremost, you know, always check your regulations, make sure seasons and whatnot. But in Colorado, you can use air guns for small game. You can use air guns for fall turkey. and for fur bears, so coyotes, things like that. Not big game as of yet, but hopefully soon it’s something that we’ve been in discussions with them. There are some states that have that legal. Oh yeah, I believe there’s 29 states currently where big game is legal with air guns. And, you know, it’s as far as a tool for, you know, like prairie dogs, things like that, I have a ton of customers that are utilizing them out on the ranches for prairie dogs and um either and you know some smaller horse properties where because they can’t you know the number one they don’t want to poison um and number two they can’t shoot anything large there sure so like i said i can go all the way down to 17 caliber if you have to worry about what’s around and uh With that, you can dial it back, but the accuracy is crazy. I mean, I was telling you, we shoot flies at like 30, 40 yards with these. It’s like literally. For pesting and things like that, they work great. We’ve had customers that had a mouse problem, so set them up with an air gun and a thermal scope, and they shot 450 mice. um so after that they had no more problems with mice in their house and news travel right yeah and on top of that you know just taking care of the problem is it’s a lot of fun yeah so if you’ve never shot a mouse with a thermal air gun or you know an air gun with a thermal scope on it um yeah you you’d be uh hard-pressed to find more fun than that absolutely
SPEAKER 04 :
All right, we’re here at the store, as I mentioned, when we started. So I’m just going to turn here on the wall. And I wish we had a podcast segment with video where you could see what we’re talking about. But these look extremely cool. I mean, these guns are unbelievable. I want to talk about just some of the features on one. And you can even take the one that I’ve got from you. You know, because there’s a power selection there. Kind of walk us through.
SPEAKER 08 :
what one is kind of made like today. Sure. And I can actually, if you want, what might be best is my top selling gun is from a manufacturer in Sweden called FX Airguns. And this one is the FX Impact M4. Cool thing about this gun is you can change calibers, you can change configuration, turn it into a compact all the way up to what they call the sniper edition, which is just a longer barrel, larger bottle. So more shots, more power. And then that platform, you can go anywhere from 177 up to 357. So you buy a barrel kit and a magazine for subsequent barrel or calibers that you want. And in two minutes, you’ve got a completely different setup then.
SPEAKER 04 :
Wow. And then the power gauge, that’s usually like a 1 to 7 or something like that?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, it depends on the gun, but yeah, some of them are 1 to 7, 1 to 16, 1 to 23. So what happens is that’s actually, you’re adjusting the hammer spring preload. So, you know, you have to think of an air gun, it’s pretty much a mechanical device. There’s, you know, regulators and then a hammer. The hammer hits the valve and then lets air out, goes through the transfer port, out the barrel. So with the dial, the adjuster that you’re talking about, what you’re doing is you’re adjusting how much air is coming out. So you’re dictating the performance of the gun that way. And what’s really cool is it’s on the fly. So I explain, I have a lot of customers that are actually, the majority of my customers are firearm enthusiasts as well. And a lot of them reload. So what I tell them is think of reloading, but instead of… adjusting your grains, all you’re doing is dialing. So it’s the same thing, but you can do it on the fly.
SPEAKER 04 :
So if you’re sitting there, let’s say you’re just out planking and you wanted on two or three to give you more shots. Coyote runs across you out there and all of a sudden you turn it up and wham, right? Exactly. Yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
You just know your holdovers. Yeah. But I have a ton of people doing that. I have folks that have their guns set up to plink and then the next week they’re hog hunting in Texas. I have a lot of customers that hog hunt. Air guns are great because same thing with coyotes. They’re really quiet. So you can… you know, you have a hog or a coyote that comes in, take your shot, and you’re not scaring everything, you know, within a mile away. They, in most cases, have no idea. Sure. And then you’ve got a gauge on the side to let you know how your pressure’s doing, correct? Yes. And most of the guns are regulated, so what it does is takes that higher pressure, regulates it down to a lower pressure, and so then every shot’s consistent.
SPEAKER 04 :
Gotcha. Now… You’ll see where the gauge goes up pretty high, but then most of them, do you put it about, because I think on mine it’s 250?
SPEAKER 08 :
It just depends on the model, the manufacturer, but most of the guns in here go up to 250 bar, which is 3625 PSI. All right.
SPEAKER 04 :
So you need a compressor, okay, which that is pretty easy. Look, Travis will tell you I’m the least mechanical guy in the world. Okay. I mean, if it says on and off, I’m good, but other than that, I need some instruction. Okay.
SPEAKER 08 :
it was super easy to learn how to do and so i’ll let you walk through the steps you know when you get one yeah no problem and one of the biggest questions i get is can my compressor at home fill this and the answer is not even close um most garage compressors go up to about 150 psi and the compressors that i sell here um go up to 4500 psi right so it’s yeah definitely a difference in in pressure but uh you can set so I have customers have multiple guns one gun may go to you know 230 bar another one to 250 bar another one all the way up to 300 bar so what’s nice is on the compressor you set the fill pressure and it has an auto stop feature so as it gets to that it shuts off you
SPEAKER 04 :
bleed off the line disconnect your gun you’re ready to go right so really i mean man you take it out of the it’s got a nice little carrying case uh or this is the option of the carrying case right carrying case and uh hey it’s real easy man just carry over your shoulder if you’re going to go out and do some shooting and uh yep just hook it up the gun and like i say preset mine to where it just shuts off at that 250 and uh it doesn’t take that long just a few minutes
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, just a few minutes. And then also, they’re ACDC, so if you are out in the field, you can just hook it onto your battery and fill from there, too. Wow.
SPEAKER 04 :
What are most people, before I break here, what are most people so surprised when they come in and they haven’t looked at guns in a while? I mean, you must just see jaws drop because… When you walk in here, you would think you’re in anything but an air gun store, right?
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, exactly. Yeah. People, they’re like, I can’t believe that this is, you know, these are air guns. Right. You know, most of them are anticipating, you know, if you walk through a big box store and see like the break barrel air guns and that’s, I don’t carry anything like that. It’s all… It’s all high-end, high-pressure pneumatic air guns. So yeah, they’ll walk in and they’re like, wow. And then they hold them and check and they can see exactly, they can feel the build quality. and shoulder them, and they’re like, wow, this is not what I expected.
SPEAKER 04 :
I’m telling you, as Travis said at the beginning, just so quiet, unbelievably accurate. If you’ve been thinking about one or you haven’t ever thought about one, I highly recommend you come by and see Travis. Once again, it’s airgunoutdoors.com. The number is 720-603-3099. You’re listening to KLZ 560 AM, your home station.
SPEAKER 04 :
Welcome back to Sportsman of Colorado. If you’re just joining us, we are live at Airgun Outdoors. Travis Peacock is with us here in Parker and just talking a little bit about airguns. And, you know, man, I can’t remember months go by so quickly how long I’ve had mine now, but I tell you, I love it. Red Merrill, for you that have been longtime listeners to the show, Red’s a good buddy of mine. And actually, when I started the show, Red was the co-host with me for several years and Red finally got sick of watching me have fun out on his property, and he came over and got one, too. And let’s kind of walk through the line. Now, you said 17 all the way from a caliber of 17 to 50 cal? To 50, yes. Okay. So let’s kind of talk about it. What can people expect in price range? I mean, you can get them into something for X amount, and then you can spend up to X amount.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Right. For most of my guns, we start right around 1,000, and then we go up from there. It depends on exactly what you’re looking for. I have bullpups, long guns. I have the big boars if somebody’s going to go hunting outside of Colorado. they want to go hunt hogs or or deer or or whatever i went to africa last year so um there’s lots of options um but the biggest thing i tell everybody is you know people call and ask what i have or they look online i’m like you really need to come in because when you come in and actually feel the gun shoulder it see what feels comfortable i’ve had people come in they’re like i yeah i’m not a bullpup fan but they’ll grab one shoulder and go okay now i am yeah so And like we were saying, 17 through 50 caliber. It’s, you know, and when you’re trying to figure out, you know, use best use case, I have guys that come in there like, all I want to do is shoot targets, or all I want to do is hunt coyotes, or I have a prairie dog problem like you wouldn’t believe. So that’s where pigeons, mice, rats, everything. But the way I will get us set up, I have a bunch of optics. I have standard optics. I have thermal, night vision. So everything, it’s… It’s kind of a one-stop shop. If you want to come in and get set up, you know, by the time you leave, you’ll have everything in place to go shoot.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. You know, and you mentioned optics. I’m telling you, of course, I’m used to in the hunting world, the Leopold’s of the world, all the different, you know, scope manufacturers.
SPEAKER 08 :
so some of these were brands i was not familiar with but man the clarity and the glass on these is awesome oh yeah now it’s uh you know my probably my two top uh brands from a optic perspective standard optics would be um arkin optics and then element optics i sell a lot of those and they’re they’re great scopes especially for the price and then from a night vision and thermal i sell from a company called pard Okay. We got a little special thing you want to throw out. Yeah. You mentioned PARD. Yeah. So, you know, it’s been great, you know, on the show with you talking. I’ve had people come in and, you know, it’s nice to have that, you know, connection. Sure. So my thoughts were is so over the next couple weeks, anyone that comes into the store and says, hey, I heard you on Sportsman of Colorado Radio. I’ll get your name, your number, and we’ll put you in the drawing for a night vision handheld binocular. So it’s night vision. So it has a built-in IR light. Maybe down the road we’d do some thermal stuff. Right now we’re just doing night vision. And that’s basically a monocular, right?
SPEAKER 12 :
It is. So if you’re out hunting.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s super easy to hold one hand. I mean, man, I was looking at it here within the store. It’s awesome.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, yeah. But there’s a lot of people that are buying the monoculars for if they’re out hunting. It’s just easy to look around and see if you’re coyote hunting or whatever. um what’s out there or people are walking their dogs and one or letting them out want to make sure there’s no predators around sure you know you can grab a handheld monocular and and take a look so this one’s a night vision but i do also uh sell the thermal uh monoculars as well okay okay and i probably shouldn’t ask you this live on air but let’s do how about we do this they come in and mention the show they get one entry they buy a gun they get another entry
SPEAKER 04 :
Correct. That sounds great. Does that work? I think that’s a great idea. Yes. So come in, and I’m telling you, folks, this is a nice piece of equipment you need to come in and see. And once again, it is Airgun Outdoors. And as I mentioned, the address is 12543 North State Highway 83, just off Parker Road and Pine. Now, looking around here, too, man, your inventory, you are stocked up, looks like, for the end of the year here. So just about anything somebody wants in a caliber, they got it right here, right?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, definitely. So, yeah, that’s, you know, Q4 comes in, and everyone’s getting ready for the fall and for, you know, the holiday season. So I have a bunch of air guns in stock. I’ve got optics in. I’ve got more optics coming. I’ve got more ammo than you could want. Yeah. Yeah, and that’s the other nice thing is with air guns you remember when the shelves were bare and a firearm stuff I always have ammo so the air gun ammo is is readily available and that is another thing You could do a lot of shooting for very little money.
SPEAKER 04 :
I
SPEAKER 08 :
Right. Yeah. It’s, you know, you’re up front, it’s a little steep, but once you’re in, it’s so cheap to shoot, say like 25 or 22 caliber, you know, 500 rounds for 20 bucks. Yeah. It’s hard to beat. And, you know, it’s, but yeah, that’s, you know, I think the biggest thing is, is just, you know, having people come in and check it out. Now you mentioned Africa.
SPEAKER 04 :
I want to jump back to that. And by the way, you can come in, see a magazine. Yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
Travis’s animal mention that tell us about it. So yeah air gun hobbyist magazine is it’s a nationwide publication and I they just came out with their annual hunting edition and I have an article in there so my I went to Africa South Africa hunting last year and wrote an article for the magazine and it was just published and I have copies here so if if you want to come in and check it out and get a copy I have them on the counter.
SPEAKER 04 :
All right. Well, along with the magazine, again, stop by the store, and Travis will show you the magazine. Now, those are for sale. Correct. Correct. What are those for on a copy?
SPEAKER 08 :
I think this is their hunting edition, so they’re normally, I believe, $13. But the normal magazine is about $8. And if they come in, say, from your show, I’ll give them their normal price. Okay, $8.
SPEAKER 04 :
All right. And a cool magazine, by the way, too. All right. Well, you can’t say I went to Africa with an air gun and let’s not talk about it. We hadn’t really had a chance to do all that. So you and I had spoken a little bit. I was kind of explaining, you know, kind of what Africa was like. So I’ll let you say in your words to those people out there that have thought about it, never been your opinion of hunting in South Africa.
SPEAKER 08 :
it was it was yeah it was amazing uh kind of one of those bucket list hunts that you only you know dream about or talk about and never really you know go down the road of actually doing it um so i um i was kind of dumbfounded when it all came about and i was able to Contact my brother who lives in South Dakota and say, hey, let’s do this. And he was all over it. So we got everything in order. I actually met the guides that I hunted with at one of the outdoor shows. And we talked and got everything all set up. And it was so much better than I thought. Because you never know. There’s sketchy… It’s a long way to go, dude.
SPEAKER 04 :
And something would be wrong.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, yeah. But there’s also… The problem is in any industry, you have sketchy people. And I’ve paid for hunts at charity auctions or whatever. And it winds up being more or less a scam. And so, obviously, I was a little bit… worried and concerned and this turned out so much better than I even anticipated so took off went over to South Africa we were there for just over a week and hunted we took eight animals we had to Impalas, got a couple Niala, and I got a golden wildebeest.
SPEAKER 04 :
Those are cool.
SPEAKER 08 :
And yeah, we got a blessed buck. Yeah, one warthog. It was, yeah, it was so cool. And the cool thing was is, you know, people don’t think about air guns and taking down a 500-pound wildebeest. And my wildebeest ran 50 yards and piled up after one shot.
SPEAKER 04 :
Had your outfitter ever done anything with air guns before? No.
SPEAKER 08 :
no not with uh yeah not with their guns and they were extremely impressed right because they’ve had many times where a wildebeest will run off and they you know have to track them and yeah they were like they they just couldn’t believe it ran 50 yards and piled up so that was a 388 grain 50 cal and your outfitter was who uh so i worked with uh kengella african safaris and andrew harvey african safaris and and actually since the hunt was so good and you know um you know with me owning an airgun store um i i kind of work directly with those guys now so if anybody wants to do an airgun or just any hunt they do rifle hunts archery everything um i can help get that all facilitated and get you booked and or get you in contact with those guys to get booked
SPEAKER 04 :
Now, for those that haven’t been before, walk us through, like, getting the guns over there, what you have to do.
SPEAKER 08 :
So with the air guns, so they’re not firearms, so not quite as detailed to get them into South Africa. And here’s the thing is… As you know, laws, rules, regulations always are changing. So that’s something that if you came in here and said, hey, I want to do an air gun hunt, I can get together with the guides and have them. They have contacts in the agencies and the government agencies to make sure that they have everything up to date. and make it a lot more, you know, a lot easier to get everything done. But the one thing that the guides were telling me is they have so many customers that they have customers that come back every year.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
And they’ve shot everything they can with a rifle. They shot everything they can with a bow, with a muzzleloader. And they’re like, hey, wait. I’ve never shot anything with an air gun. So this was, it’s another avenue for somebody that loves to go and hunt, you know, to actually do something different. And the thing with an air gun is it’s a lot like a muzzle. You’ve got to get a little bit closer. You’ve got a little bit more of a hunt aspect instead of, you know, crosshairs on it, pull the trigger, done. So you’ve got to get up and, you know, and get closer. Like most of my stuff was around 100 or slightly over 100 yards. wow and but it’s the africa was amazing um and if you go to my website airgunoutdoors.com i have some pictures of the animals that we took over there and i’m actually just getting ready to plan next year’s hunt so we’re going back wow i tell people all the time it is in my opinion the best value in hunting there is oh yeah i know guys that pay more for a colorado elk hunt than i paid for and you may get a shot and you may not
SPEAKER 04 :
and you can go to Africa, be in Africa, And you will see, I tell people all the time, I don’t care who you are, you will see more animals in that seven to nine days, whatever you decide to stay, than you’ve ever seen in your life.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, yeah. Only things I’ve seen in the zoo.
SPEAKER 04 :
Dude, most of them I had to look up. I’m like, the guy goes, well, when I went, you know, I’ve been plastic on four times. And the guy goes, well, and I had to look up most of the animals. I didn’t know what a water buck was. I had no idea, you know. Red, which you’ve met. He went with me in 2013, the first time we went. He ends up shooting a world record, number one, NSCI Clipspringer. Didn’t even know what it was. He’s with this guy. And we’re from Texas, dude. That thing’s little to us, right? And I wasn’t with him, which I’ve always regretted that. But this guy said, Red, shoot that. And Red goes, what is it? And he goes, that’s a Clipspringer. That’s the biggest one I’ve ever seen. And Red’s like… What do you mean that’s the biggest one? He said, just shoot it. It took him like 15 minutes to convince him to shoot it. Finally, he shot it, and then it came back number one in SCI. Wow. Yeah. So he has it fully mounted. Now, we were shooting bigger stuff, so he shot him with a .300 Win Mag. They had to do some repair work on the other shoulder. I’m guessing, yeah. Yeah. But it is really cool. And certainly your folks, you know, would highly recommend because you’ve been there. We work with Bushman’s Quiver out of South Africa as well. And, you know, you do want to know. So, hey, I know we’re going to be at the Mile High Hunt and Fish Expo this year. And just a quick note on that, that is going to be March 20th through the 22nd. I’ve mentioned this last week. We’re not going to be back at the Gaylord. We have changed venues and we are going to be at the new Expo Hall. for the Western Event Center down for the Stock Show. They have built a beautiful new building there. We’re going to be doing this week, the third week of March every year now, so a little bit easier for everybody to plan. This is going to work out a lot better for everybody. So, you know, if you’ve ever thought about going to Africa, stop by the shop over here, see Travis, let him tell you about his guys. And, you know, if we can ever help you with that, it is a fun, fun thing to do for sure. I tell you what, we’re going to hit our last break here with Travis. We’re going to come back and wrap up here at the store. And if you’re just joining us, we are coming to you live from Airgun Outdoors here in Parker, 12543 North State Highway 83, which is basically Parker Road and Pine Lane. We’ll be right back.
SPEAKER 03 :
Hey, Dan, you know, our jobs are pretty different. I’m a baseball announcer. You’re an attorney and a talk show host.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, but we do have something in common. Really? What’s that? Our favorite car dealer, Len Lyle Chevrolet. Yeah, definitely not your typical dealership. That’s so true, Jack. No high pressure sales tactics. They respect your time. And when you have two jobs, that’s important. You know, I’d recommend Len Lyle Chevrolet to anyone.
SPEAKER 03 :
And with their low overhead, that means lower prices.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, we really do have something in common.
SPEAKER 03 :
Len Lyle Chevrolet. Go east and pay the least. Chevy. Find new roads.
SPEAKER 04 :

This is KLZ 560 AM, your home station.
SPEAKER 04 :
Welcome back to the show. Hey, just a quick reminder now, you miss our live show here on Saturdays. We are on Sundays, 8 a.m., 8 p.m., the following Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. And, hey, if you’ve ever got a topic, I was talking with a guy, and he said, hey, do you take suggestions? I go, sure we take suggestions. and he was telling us some things that he wanted to hear about from one of our gun stores. So any subject you would like for us to cover or you would like to get us to get an expert on in some different field, reloading, whatever, hey, we are happy to do that. You can text me or call me, 720-201-8585, and we will certainly be glad to do that. for you if you’re just getting in the car turn on the radio most of the show today we have spent over here at our airgun outdoors with travis peacock he is the owner airgunoutdoors.com and we’re going to recap just a few things that we’ve gone over here today Number one, if you haven’t been to the store, you need to come. All right. This is one of the coolest family-owned stores you’ll ever come into just right here in your back door for most of you here over here in Parker. So I hope you’ll come by and see them. And if you haven’t thought about air guns before and you haven’t looked at them in a long time, this is the store. Travis knows these things inside and out, and he’ll be glad to help you through that. Now, if you come by the store and, of course, it’s the 30th of August. We’re going to do this for a couple of weeks. Do we want to set a date? Do we want to say two weeks or do we want to say three weeks, the month of September? What do you want to do? I’m open. Whatever you think. Yeah. I would say let’s do… A couple of weeks? Let’s do a couple of weeks. Okay. A couple of weeks. All right. So here’s what we’re doing. You come to the store. You mention Sportsman of Colorado. You’re going to be… Get an entry into winning one of his PARD. That’s P-A-R-D. Handheld monoculars.
SPEAKER 08 :
I’ll let you describe it again. Yeah. It’s a night vision handheld monocular. So… You know, you want to see what’s in your yard at night before you let your dog out. Or if you’re out hunting and, you know, checking things out, it has a built-in IR light. It’s like shining a flashlight on something without there being any visible light. So they work great. And, yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 08 :
I’d be more than happy to… Give that away to somebody, but they’ve got to come into the store, mention Sportsman of Colorado, get their name and number. After the drawing, names and numbers get shredded, so I’ll never call you because I don’t like people bugging me either. Sure. All right.
SPEAKER 04 :
And so now you’re going to get one entry just for coming in and mentioning the show. If you buy a gun, all right, any level, you’re going to get another entry, all right? And then we will draw that in a couple of weeks. I’ll tell you what, we’ll do that live on Sportsman of Colorado, too. And just to go through them, and we’ll pick a winner. So you can’t win if you don’t enter, all right? So come by the store. Let’s run through your hours here. What are your normal hours?
SPEAKER 08 :
So I’m closed on Thursdays and Sundays. Okay. During the week, it’s 11 to 5. And on Saturday, I’m open 10 to 5. So just an extra hour. Right. All right.
SPEAKER 04 :
And once again, if you’re looking for optics, hey, he’s got them here. So you can come in. If you want to get just a gun, you can do so. If you want to get it all tricked out with the optics and all, you can do that. Once again, they’ve got big bore available. And what is that considered in the airfield world? What’s a big bore?
SPEAKER 08 :
Airgun world, you’re talking, when you get into big bore, it’s usually like .30 caliber and above. So when I am discussing big bores with people, it’s usually for big game hunting and whatnot. I’m usually looking at .357, .457, and .50 caliber. Right, right.
SPEAKER 04 :
Now, let’s walk through a couple, and I might have asked this earlier, but a couple of price ranges. Someone’s wanting to come in, let’s say they’re wanting to get like a .22 caliber type deal. What are you looking at, just ballpark range?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, so I start at, I think… Most of my guns start at that $1,000 range and go up from there. Okay. I do have, I think, one gun that I carry that’s under the $1,000 in that, like, $750 range. Right. But, you know, the upfront’s a little steep, but once you’re in there, it’s so cheap to shoot. You get your money back, you know. We all know, because I’m a firearms guy, too, when you go to the range or you go shoot, you’re like, man, I just shot, you know, $150 worth of ammo.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. No, I tell you, I went over to shoot the other day at a place, and I told the guy, I go, I need about three minutes because I’m going to shoot three shells. I’m shooting a 300 Weatherby mag. First of all, that’s not fun just to shoot a paper. Plus, they’re expensive, man.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, yeah. And that’s the thing is I have guys that will shoot 1,000 rounds a week just because they can because it’s so cheap. Sure. They come home after work and have a place they can shoot, and they sit down and – Just plink, plink, plink. I have guys that have basement ranges because there’s no powder, so you have no noxious smoke from powder burning off. Sure. Now, the first Saturday of every month at 9 o’clock? 9 a.m., yeah. It’s Good Morning Airguns.
SPEAKER 04 :
Good morning, air guns. You got coffee. You got donuts. And you got air guns. And lots of air gun guys.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, just BSing and having a good time. And, you know, I talk about, you know, it being an air gun gathering. Well, all these guys are into other stuff, whether it’s I have guys that are into car racing and model airplanes and, you know, fishing and firearms. The conversations, people are here for hours because they have so much in common and they just have a great time talking.
SPEAKER 04 :
Last couple of minutes here, but just looking at the stock on the wall, and again, if you missed this earlier, great inventory right now. So this isn’t something in most cases he’s got to order. Probably got it right here. He does sell the air tanks along with it. As a matter of fact, some gentlemen just came in that are clients of yours and bought an air tank. Bought the compressor, yeah. Yeah, compressor and everything. Some of these now are kind of like just a black gun, you know, AR type look to them. But then you’ve got some with some really cool woodwork. Talk about those just a second. We hadn’t talked about those.
SPEAKER 08 :
The nice thing is I have bullpups, long guns. I’ve got more tactical looking. You’ve got the nice laminate stocks. There’s a gun in here for everybody. I’ve got some nice walnut stocks. But until you actually step in and see it firsthand, then once you do, you’re like, okay, now I understand. yeah um but yeah they’re yeah and some of them are like the ones uh sitting here on the wall biased they have a copper color black you know there’s some of the guns who have different options you can kind of trick them out there’s accessories i have tripods bipods night vision thermal standard optics You know, Arca Rails, you name it, adjustable butt stocks.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean, they can walk in here and walk out of here with literally every – you don’t have to go to Cabela’s for nothing. No, you’re set.
SPEAKER 08 :
No, you can’t buy this stuff at big box stores anyways, but it’s all – It’s all very specific.
SPEAKER 04 :
All right. Now, what are some of the brands? I see FX, and I think that’s what I have. Yeah, what are some of the brands in this airgun?
SPEAKER 08 :
So my top-selling gun is FX. They’re out of Sweden. I mean, their machining is amazing. I have Daystate out of the U.K., and then I have Western Airguns. They’re made in Wyoming. Air Force and Rapid Airworks, those are out of Texas. Um, and then, you know, there’s other guns that I can get through distributors, but these are the ones that I stock, you know, I usually have on the wall all the time.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. Right. Hey, come by the store, get registered for the Pard handheld monocular. And, uh, again, night vision. I don’t want to use any wrong terms.
SPEAKER 08 :
Anything I’m leaving out. Night vision, monocular.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. And it is super cool. Hey. Truly, you have to buy nothing to register for it. We’ll draw that in a couple of weeks. We’ll do that live on the show. And if you do buy a gun, hey, we’re going to get you another entry into that. But you’ve got to mention Sportsman of Colorado. And once again, Travis Peacock is the owner. So come in, tell him you heard him here on the show. We’d appreciate that as well. It is airgunoutdoors.com. Their number is 720-603-3099, 12543 North State Highway 83, which is basically Parker Road and Pine Lane in Parker. So, Travis, thanks for having us out, and we’ll look forward to doing this again, sir. Thanks, Scott. Appreciate it. You’re listening to Sports from Colorado. We’ve got to take our last break, and we’ll be back with more right after this.

Here’s your Water Talk Minute with Paul the Waterman, brought to you by Water Pros.
SPEAKER 01 :
So one of the things that we’ve learned, and you can check this out factually information for yourself by going to theepa.gov. The EPA has a laundry list of unregulated contaminants. And what that means, folks, is that your municipality does not have to test for these contaminants. And so they’re not reported in your annual water quality report. This is something that has to change. We have a false sense of security about the quality of our drinking water, from pharmaceuticals to the levels of PFAS and Gen X chemicals, which was recently removed from the EPA contamination list. And for example, there’s a contaminant on the unregulated list called 1,4-Dioxin. 1,4-Dioxin has been in our water supply since the early 1900s. Check out my podcast on Spotify, Paul the Waterman, or waterpros.net.
SPEAKER 10 :
KLZ 560 AM, your home station.
SPEAKER 04 :
Welcome back to Sportsman of Colorado. Thank you so much for being with us today. Shoot indoors, Buckley. Hey, a great range, 1310 South Abilene Street, and the owner joins us today, our good buddy, Tim Christopherson. Christopherson, how are you?
SPEAKER 07 :
Christopherson, yes. Doing well, Scott.
SPEAKER 04 :
How about yourself? Doing good, man. Buddy, years gone by, hasn’t it? It’s… It’s been a quick summer for sure. You say the summer’s been good, though.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, summer’s been good. Been busy. Carton kids are all around the state and even to Canada. We had to travel for the lacrosse tournament this year, so up in Calgary for a weekend, which was fun. But, yeah, so it’s been a busy summer. On and off work. I’ve been busy at the range and really things have been going well.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, good, good. You know, I know I’ve never been through a time like this, so much attack on our guns and firearms and different things. A lot of changes have come up over last year and this year. One thing is new training-type mandates. Kind of tell us a little bit about that for those that don’t know, and then about some of your classes.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, for sure. Anybody that is a current CCW holder or looking at obtaining their permit to conceal or carry a handgun is required new training as of July 1st of this year. So it’s a two-hour refresher course for existing permit holders and then an eight-hour mandatory course with shooting in both classes in order to obtain your new permit. So that started, like I said, July 1st. And we’ve seen a big demand for that. A lot of people are exercising that right to carry. So it’s good to see people going through the steps and obtaining those permits. Right. How many people can you put in a class each time? We just redesigned our classroom. We can actually fit close to 30 people in our classroom now.
SPEAKER 04 :
So it is somewhat limited. So people that want to get in… Better call it. Oh, for sure.
SPEAKER 07 :
Scarcity. We like to see our classes between 10 and 12 people. We do run some special events where we’re, you know, putting more people in the classroom, but you won’t see an overcrowded class more than 10 or 12 people typically.
SPEAKER 04 :
And I tell people all the time when they say shooting, I go, look, the way I believe it is, they’re not looking for you to be a marksman in that. They’re looking for you to be safe with a firearm, correct?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. And the shooting requirement, while it is a requirement, they’re, We’re looking for safety more than we are marksmanship. There is an accuracy requirement. I think we’re yet to have anybody fail that portion, so don’t be intimidated.
SPEAKER 04 :
You must stay on paper.
SPEAKER 07 :
Don’t be intimidated by the shooting portion, and we’ll give one-on-one instruction as needed to assure proficiency.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. And what are those classes running right now, money-wise?
SPEAKER 07 :
So we did have to double the length of our class. So that essentially doubled the cost of the class as well. The refresher course is $125. That’s two hours. You’re going to spend time in the classroom and time on the range. And then the CCW new permit class would be $250. That’s basically seven hours, uh, classroom instruction. And then, uh, you go on the range for the last hour. So, uh, yep. We’re making sure we’re running through the paces.
SPEAKER 04 :
So what are you seeing in, in, um, people coming in more guys, more women than normal. I mean, what do you, who are you seeing coming in for the classes?
SPEAKER 07 :
You know, we’ve got a really good mix of men, women, children. Um, there, I wouldn’t, you know, it’s a predominantly male sport. I will say that, but, uh, You know, women’s participation in the shooting sports has grown exponentially over the last several years. And whether it’s somebody trying to protect themselves or just find a new hobby or a new sport to enjoy, we really get all walks of life. Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
Again, Tim is with us at Shoot Indoors Buckley. It’s 1310 South Abilene. There are several other locations around the area. As well, let’s see, we’ve got off 6th and I-25.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep, 6th Avenue and I-25 is our Shoot Indoors Denver location. We have another one just off of 39th and Monaco. That’s what we call our Shoot Indoors Central Park. And then our first location in the metro area, been around for just over 12 years now, almost 13, is up in Broomfield off of Highway 36 and 120th. So easy to get to anywhere you are in the metro area. Yeah. And your hours at your store are? We are open 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays, and then long weekend hours, 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. So we try to accommodate as many schedules as we can. So whether it’s work or play, we can hopefully find some time to get in.
SPEAKER 04 :
And you talk about being convenient for people because, you know, other places may close 5 or 6 o’clock. You’re there until 10 o’clock or 8 o’clock. And, I mean, that’s awesome.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, and we’re just meeting the demand because there’s many days where our busiest hours of the day are from 8 to 10 o’clock because there’s nothing else to do, especially if you’re in the shooting sports. Every place else is closed down. So we’ve really taken a stride to keep it convenient with our hours.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, here’s the thing I hear, too. I mean, the whole time you’ve been with us is, man, I don’t need a coffee bar. I don’t need a restaurant. I need a place I can just get in and shoot. You know what I mean? Yeah. And be cost effective. And you’re certainly that.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, we try to keep our walk-in rates competitive. We definitely have our membership rates probably the most competitive in the industry in this area. So for $40 a month, you can get unlimited access to our range and not pay any per-visit fees. So it’s very cost-effective if you’re shooting more than once a month.
SPEAKER 04 :
You know, here’s something too, and I highly recommend you follow them on their social media. And again, it’s Shoot Indoors Buckley. But you will see things from… Bachelor parties, bachelorette parties, you’ll see work functions group. What I’m saying is people can get in touch with you. You can kind of design something for any type group or individuals that want to come in, can’t you?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, absolutely. We’ve worked with groups that bring catering in. We’ve got, you know, our classroom space is great for, you know, gathering. If there’s not a class going, we can arrange the classroom for you. And, you know, we get groups constantly coming in just to find a fun way to spend an afternoon or a team-building event. Wow, cool.
SPEAKER 04 :
Hey, you were telling me before we came on air you had a pretty special guest recently that’s going to be coming back in November.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes, just last week we had Sam Yu, and for those of you who don’t know who he is, he is an international competitor in shooting sports. He’s done a lot of training of celebrities for certain movie roles and that type of stuff, and he is the best marksman, best firearms handler I’ve ever been in close contact with. He’s amazing. He’s won world championships in IPSC. He is… A lot of fun to watch. And he did a training course, a three-day course here last week, and he’s coming back in November to do some more training. And so watch our website, watch our calendar, and see when we have him posted.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, we’ll definitely get you back on that for sure.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’ll be training unlike anybody’s ever seen before.
SPEAKER 04 :
If you’re familiar with the John Wick movies, he’s the one that trained Keanu Reeves, correct?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep, that is correct. So he walks the walk and talks the talk for sure. Wow, that’s awesome.
SPEAKER 04 :
Now, gun rentals. Let’s talk about that a little bit and how all that works.
SPEAKER 07 :
You know, our gun rentals and our fleet is constantly growing. We’re adding one to two, maybe three guns a month. So we’re up well over 60 now available for rent. And you can come in without anything and we can help you get on the range. Single firearm rental is $20. If you want to try multiple firearms, you’re going to pay $35. Ammo is additional purchase for that. But it’s a great way to try something before you buy it or just come out for a fun afternoon.
SPEAKER 04 :
And you work with our friend Ryan, Big Horn Firearms, and you all do quite a few events together too.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, we’ve done several events in the past. He always does his anniversary party that we set up a booth at, and we work closely with him and his crew over there obtaining firearms, and we send people his way all the time. So it’s fun to have that business relationship with a reputable gun store. Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
Those machine gun shoots, those are pretty crazy, aren’t they?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, we’ve pared back on those slightly. We’re doing them probably quarterly now as opposed to monthly, but still a great way to get out and shoot something that you may likely never have another chance to do. Machine gun shoots are always a good time. All right.
SPEAKER 04 :
If people want to get, I’ve talked to a few people and I’ve told them just to call you, but I’ve talked to a few people that says, man, I just don’t want to be in a class with training. I just, I want to, I’d like to do one-on-one stuff. Is anybody on your staff available to be hired for like a one-on-one for a few weeks for training?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, absolutely. We’ve got, you know, with this new Colorado requirements, we’ve got several verified instructors working for us. Not that they need to be a verified instructor to do a one-on-one lesson, but those go for $125. Okay. It’s 90 minutes. Usually the instructor will, you know, gauge your ability level up to 30 minutes in the classroom, and then the rest of the time is spent on the range going over the fundamentals or whatever skills you’re wanting to work on.
SPEAKER 04 :
Mm-hmm. Again, Tim Christopherson is with us at Shoot Indoors Buckley, 1310 South Abilene Street. And hey, pretty much they’re always open that you’re awake. All right. So that’s easy. But again, this is a great place. And it is exactly what I said a few minutes ago. Hey, if you’re there just to get in, be able to shoot your gun. in a good environment clean environment great staff uh shoot a lot of different guns maybe and and let’s mention this real quick you know before you go to ryan and buy a gun try some shoot see what fits you right that’s the best place to do it is your place yep and like i said our rental fleet is constantly evolving so we’re bringing on the you know new popular guns that are you know coming out so we always try to keep that fresh so you know what you’re looking at
SPEAKER 07 :
What you’re trying to rent and shoot is what you’re able to go out and buy right away. And you were telling me you just celebrated five years. We did. Five-year anniversary on July 7th. So that was exciting. You know, opened this business, arguably the worst time in history. Right in the peak of COVID. So we faced many challenges there. But, you know, we adapted and overcame. And now we just celebrated five years. So that’s quite an accomplishment.
SPEAKER 04 :
Quite an accomplishment. Absolutely. Now, are there other special deals or days or discounts? I think you do some things for veterans.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. So military, police, current form military, law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs. Always get a discount when you come in. Just make sure you mention it at the counter. They’ll likely ask you as well. Um, we do have our ladies day, uh, probably our most popular weekday. Uh, that’s a women’s shoot for $10, uh, get a free gun rental and a free target. So, uh, best value in town, in my opinion. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 04 :
Um, anything coming up anytime soon you want to mention or a little too early to mention?
SPEAKER 07 :
Um, we don’t have a lot, uh, other than, like I said, Sam is coming back in, uh, November. He’ll be running some classes before hours, after hours, so I might have to adjust your schedule a little bit to take advantage of that, but he likes to be on an empty range, so we’ll be operating those classes outside of business hours. Other than, you know, summer’s almost over and our winter season’s picking up. I expect to be a little bit busier, but still with 12 lanes, we can easily accommodate 200 shooters a day. So don’t let a line scare you away.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, really.
SPEAKER 07 :
Is there anything you can’t shoot there? We can’t shoot birdshot. So shotguns with slugs or buckshot. And then we don’t shoot .50 caliber BMG. Other than that, all rifle calibers, all pistol calibers, and shotguns with slugs or buckshot. And for those black powder people out there, we can accommodate black powder as well. Our ventilation system is second to none, so you won’t be filling the range with smoke.
SPEAKER 04 :
I’ll tell you, that’s here for a note. I actually got a muzzleloader tag this year, so I’m planning on stopping by. That would be great. Talk about your staff a minute. And all we hear about how friendly and knowledgeable your staff is. And that means a lot to a business, you know, when they’re welcomed. And I think that’s one thing when people come over and over again, you kind of build a great community there, you know?
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, absolutely. My staff speaks for themselves. And you can check our reviews online. You’ll see we’re at 4.9 stars, which is the highest rated range in the nation. And, you know, our staff goes above and beyond that. and really just creates that welcoming atmosphere. So whether you’re a novice or a beginner, or you’ve been shooting for, you know, decades, um, our staff can probably help you out one way or another. Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER 04 :
Once again, it is shoot indoors, Buckley 1310 South Abilene. You can check out the other locations in the area as well. And if you’ll listen, um, Hey, everyone’s probably we’ll throw out some deals where you can get a chance to, to win a gift card there. And, um, A great, great store. Again, over 60 guns you can try and shoot. And I want to make sure I’m right on this. $20 if you rent one gun. $35 you can shoot anything. Yep. And you buy your own ammo. And you buy the ammunition, correct.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, the person buys their own ammo. All right.
SPEAKER 04 :
Anything we forgot?
SPEAKER 07 :
I don’t think so, Scott.
SPEAKER 04 :
Good. All right, man. Always good to see you. Congrats on five years. Man, I’m telling you, not only going through COVID, but just to make it five years is a big deal. You know? I mean, it really is.
SPEAKER 07 :
From the inside looking out, it felt like I blinked and we were there. But it was a quick five years. But lots of trials, tribulations, and here we are.
SPEAKER 04 :
Sure. Well, you’ve done a good job, bud. Congratulations. Appreciate it. So we want to thank all of our guests today. Mostly, thank you for being with us on Sportsman of Colorado. Hope you have a great rest of your weekend. And leave it right here on KLZ 560.
