SPEAKER 10 :
Welcome to Sportsman of Colorado, Colorado’s premier outdoor radio show heard every Saturday afternoon on KLZ 560 with insights on hunting, fishing, archery, guns, and ammo from Colorado’s top outfitters featuring the industry’s leading experts on how to enhance your experience in the great outdoors. Now, here’s your host, Scott Watley.
SPEAKER 04 :
Welcome to Sportsman of Colorado. Thank you so much for joining us today. Hey, we got our crew from LT Arms once again. We try to kick off every month on the first show of the month with these guys, but great to have Evan Lee back with us. Evan, good to see you. Thanks, Scott. Brandon Anderson. Good to see you, sir. Good to see you, too. How’s the last few weeks gone? I guess, Brandon, since we last spoke, what’s the last few weeks been like?
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, we’ve been super busy with all kinds of stuff. We’ve been making cowboy hats and getting custom rifles ready for the season and getting hunting packs ready and tons of taxidermy has been coming in, tons of consignment. So, yeah, we’ve been busy.
SPEAKER 04 :
Now, people that were listening, they’re going, did he just say cowboy hats? Yeah. Did he just say guns? Did he just say taxidermy? Yeah. We need a beef jerky in here somewhere, okay?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, we do.
SPEAKER 04 :
But, man, seriously. And, hey, mention the cowboy hats. Man, you guys were kind enough to have me over and got me a really cool custom hat formed by your hands.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, yeah. We took the— Hat with guys, it’s Hat Masters that does the classes that we took. So they’re based out of the cow lot up on 44th and a little bit north of I-70 on Havana. So it’s a local company, but they do custom hat shaping. And they recently started Hat College, basically. So you can go take a three-day course from them, and they teach you how to steam hats and do all the shaping and different options with them. I mean, they do everything, branding and… All kinds of fun stuff. So, yeah, we took their class. Three of us went down there and took the three-day class and learned how to be custom hat shapers.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, you did a good job, man. It turned out good.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, thanks.
SPEAKER 04 :
I was hoping you’d like it. Yeah, absolutely. All right, hey, a couple weeks ago, super tragic story, a couple young men, and there’s been a couple of stories since about some other hunters that have gotten in trouble. Another one, I think, passed away, and another one they found, but, man, got into some shape, so got into bad shape. So I thought we’d just talk a minute just about that a little bit. You know, I hate to judge him. Because you don’t know what the situation was. We weren’t there, Evan. But we thought we would go through just a few things of just, man, if you haven’t hunted in Colorado before, first of all, and this is your first time going to the mountains or it’s your 100th time, I’m telling you what, it’s unforgiving to be caught out and not know where you are, get lost, maybe not to have onyx and different things like that, but then just not to have the right gear with you. So we’re just going to kind of
SPEAKER 17 :
do a little discussion about this list so evan i’ll let you kick it off yeah survival basics right what do you keep in your pack for that sort of thing um i mean i’m i’m the guy that’s got a i’ve got a tarp i’ve got a space blanket i’ve got an extra heavy duty landscape trash bag um 50 feet of 550 paracord uh way to start a fire like these balls of fire saturate some cotton balls in vaseline and keep those with you magnesium striker. Um, those are the things you can to keep you going, you know, you food and water and all that kind of thing to you. I, I basically, what I do is I plan on what happens if I get stuck out tonight and the weather changes and drops 30 degrees and it starts snowing, how am I going to make it through the night? If I can’t, if I’ve got an injury or if I’m, if I’m stuck, um, those are the kinds of things I carry in my pack all the time. Um, Again, seems like you’re carrying a lot. Yeah, it’s a lot of extra weight. But what if? You’ve got to be protected from the unexpected. You’ve got to be prepared. Because as you mentioned, the Rockies can be so unforgiving and the weather can change so quick. And some folks from lower elevations don’t really understand how quick it can happen. I mean, I’ve seen it turn so fast. Temperature drop 25, 30 degrees, start snowing, wind starts whipping. Just like an hour ago, it was sunshiny blue sky.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean, we can be right here at your store and look out and go, They’re saying it’s going to rain, or they’re saying it’s going to snow. There’s no way it’s going to change in the next three hours, and it does. It does. So you can imagine if you’re in the mountains and getting all those different jet streams, different things going on. Yeah. Man, you can be in trouble.
SPEAKER 17 :
Up there at 9,000 feet, it can happen so quickly, so quickly.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. We actually have been putting together some hunting packs that you can come down and get. We have some great packs in from Browning with lightweight carbon frames that keep everything nice and rigid and places to store your rifle as well as places to store all the survival stuff that Evan was mentioning. I mean, we have small propane stoves and the space blankets. They’re kind of like a, it’s a tarp that comes with a setup that you can make a tent in between two trees if you needed some kind of shelter. So yeah, it’s something a lot of people don’t consider, but it’s something you definitely need to do.
SPEAKER 17 :
take to heart because like he was saying if you get you know it can change yeah on a dime and you’ll be stuck out there and not know what to do yep and even with all the modern technology it’s great you can you got an in reach and you can you can contact snr but snr could be 100 miles away they can be on another project um if keeping keeping a battery pack with his real good idea too no no no i know it’s all extra weight guys but uh be safe yeah absolutely um
SPEAKER 04 :
As we mentioned, the game season has already kicked off. Archery, muzzleloader and all. First rifle will be opening here on the 15th. And if you are in the need of any gunsmithing, now is the time. You don’t want to wait any longer, right?
SPEAKER 17 :
Absolutely. It’s starting to get busy in here. We’ve got pushing three weeks wait time right now. And we try to get things turned as quick as we can. And we do offer a rush service for a charge. But it’s better to just, if you need something done, get in here this weekend.
SPEAKER 04 :
And go shoot. I mean, hey, let’s be honest. Most of the time we hadn’t shot a rifle since last season, you know. And many times, maybe that Wednesday or Thursday before you leave, you’re thinking, oh, I better go shoot some, you know. I’ve known guys that didn’t go shoot until they got to camp, and then something was really bad, you know. And I’m like, man, why would you do that?
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, check that zero before you head up to save yourself that headache.
SPEAKER 04 :
Another thing, one less thing you’ve got to worry about. Mm-hmm. Now, if somebody’s in need and maybe they want to upgrade some optics, you guys carry some optics here in the store, too. We do. We do. We’ve got…
SPEAKER 17 :
We’ve got some really nice entry-level SIGs that are these six-hour glasses. It’s very impressive, and it’s a good budget option for an entry-level scope. We recently brought in GPO, German Precision Optics. We met those guys at SHOT Show this year, and it’s a really, really nice scope as well, more of a mid-range. And then our higher range is more along the loophole lines, higher in loopholes than the VX5 levels. So we have a good, better, best sort of thing.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean, there are so many companies out there in optics. It’s insane. But, man, Leopold is pretty good. They are. They are.
SPEAKER 17 :
Really fantastic. And you can’t beat that lifetime service warranty. They’ll fix it. Anything happens, they’ll fix it.
SPEAKER 04 :
And you and I just walked through a deal with my Seekins Precision where we got the scope. You built some great rounds for it, and then we sent that off.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, got your custom dial turret.
SPEAKER 04 :
Got the custom dialed to it in just less than a week. I mean, which the guy told me it’d be several weeks, and, man, I had it in less than a week. In your hand. Installed, ready to go. Really cool. Absolutely. Mention the reloading, and I know you guys do a lot of classes. So, again, it’s been a while since we’ve just run through everything that’s available. Many of these are on an as-needed basis or when people call, so there’s not really a set schedule to some of them. But let’s just walk through the classes. So I’ll let you cover what you like.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah. Evan’s still doing his reloading classes, but we’re also still providing concealed carry courses and renewals for everyone. And we’re actually partnering with Guns for Everyone. And Edgar over there, he’s going to be coming in three times a month, usually a Saturday. Two first Saturdays of the month and then the last Sunday. He’s kind of spacing them out. Oh, okay. He’s doing his four-hour classroom portion here. And you can sign up for those on gunsforeveryone.com, and they have their… their schedule on there and then they go take it usually out to empire gun club for the live fire session but so yeah we’re partnering with those guys because he has a more of a capacity to handle those larger classes with everything that’s been going on around here so yeah we’re teaming up with those guys all right
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, a lot of changes there with what it used to be. You know, some of them I’m not really against. You know, when I got mine, you didn’t have to go shoot at the range. I remember those days. And, I mean, did I mind it then? No, because I didn’t want to go through some two-hour class. You know what I mean? I was just busy. Not that I think I knew everything. I was just busy. But I do think it’s good, you know.
SPEAKER 17 :
A lot of us who grew up in the game, like, you know, you’ve been around firearms our whole lives were raised that way. It does become kind of second nature and we’re already are educated, but there, we have so many first timers who they’re considering their first firearm for self-defense purposes. And that level of education can’t hurt. Yeah. It’s a good thing. I mean, yeah, it might seem like a long class, but there’s really a lot to absorb. And a lot of it isn’t just the shooting aspect, but it’s the legalities of what you’re taking on. It’s a huge responsibility to carry a firearm for self-defense and, You can get yourself in trouble. So it’s better if you’re educated and know what’s good and what’s bad and what not to do and learn about de-escalation, all the different ways that you can avoid even having to draw on another human being.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s a good course. So is pricing information, though, is that on your side? Would that be on his or yours?
SPEAKER 15 :
It’s on Guns for Everyone. He’s doing it kind of in a tiered structure where if you can’t afford to pay the price but you really want to get your CCW, he’ll actually allow you to take the course for free, which is great. But he’s also accepting donations, and he has it kind of in a tiered $20, $40, $60, $80, $100. He’ll accept more than that if you’d like because… The money goes towards him keeping the program running, and they’re also involved in some of the lawsuits that are going on right now at the state level with the SB 2503. I got a feeling every year we are alive.
SPEAKER 04 :
We’re going to be saying that. We’re in a lawsuit.
SPEAKER 15 :
It doesn’t seem like they’re going to stop trying to pass these laws. They come up with a new one, it seems, every few months now.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s pretty unfortunate. Now, for your reloading classes, kind of walk us through what… You’re offering, at least, that’s available.
SPEAKER 17 :
Essentially, it’s a Reloading 101 course. If you’ve never done it before, it’s an introduction to the basis of hand loading, the ballistics theory, all things internal and external. What we’re going to do is sit down and go through about a 45-minute presentation and talk about terminology and all the different things and powder burn rates and primers and projectiles and all that sort of stuff you need to know. Essentially, you can read the front of any hand-loading manual and get the same thing, but a lot of guys just want to sit and talk about it. And then after about 45 minutes of that, of presentation and talking, we sit at the benches and we actually put together some ammo. We assemble ammunition hands-on at the bench, and you get to turn out 20 or 50 rounds and see what it’s actually all about and see if it’s for you. Do you like to do that in a one-on-one type deal? I’ve done it both ways. One-on-one is preferable. I think a lot of guys like it that way because we can just take it. There’s no time limit. We can just go for as long as they want to go. But then I’ve done, you know, father-daughter teams. I’ve done a group of three guys that wanted to do it together. So any way is fine. I don’t like doing more than about four or five in the room at a time just because the room’s a little bit tight in there.
SPEAKER 04 :
We’ve got five set up. What do you need to kind of get started? What kind of investment are you looking at to get started with what you need?
SPEAKER 17 :
you can get really good introductory kits for about 500 bucks it’s a single stage press it’s got a it’s got a scale it’s got powder measure it’s got some calipers a reloading manual some of the other smaller tools you need and that’ll get you started other than dies but you got to have dies for each every cartridge and caliber you’re going to load. So dyes can be 50 to 200, depending on what level you want to go to. So, but a guy could get into it for 500 and 600 bucks. And then, uh, you know, you reloading your brass cases that you’ve already fired. So you need primers and powder and bullets. Right. We talk about this a lot. Like, I’m going to save so much money hand loading. Well, you can, but you’re also just going to buy more tools. Yeah. And you’re going to shoot a lot more. Sure. But there is a huge amount of satisfaction in being able to custom tune the load to your rifle that you built yourself that you know performs, and then going out and harvesting an animal that fall with it. It’s really satisfying.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. With mine, I remember you were saying, man, I got this right next to factory stuff. So, I mean, is that the goal as you’re reloading?
SPEAKER 17 :
I mean, achieving close to factory ammunition velocities is great, but I’m still looking for the accuracy. That’s really the thing is you can enhance your accuracy. And the less spreads you have in your velocities between cartridges, you just get a lot more consistent performance.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. Evan Lee is with us, also Brandon Anderson, LT Arms, 8130 Schaefer Parkway. The number is 720-727-0400. Hey, when you get by the store, be sure and let them know you heard about them here on Sportsman of Colorado. We’re going to take a quick break. More with LT Arms coming right back.
SPEAKER 16 :
Here’s why you need personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch on your side. He understands the way the jury thinks. In the context of a personal injury case, you’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. The idea is that you’re going to try to recover so that you can get back to where you were just prior to that incident occurring. What that really means from a jurist’s perspective is that you’re going to be asking them to award you money. So when we talk about fairness, we’re talking about six people that you don’t know. Those six people view the evidence and make a unanimous decision that will decide what the fair value is. When you’re the one who’s hurt, you have a good idea of what you think it’s worth. The question is, can you persuade those other individuals whom you don’t know and were witnesses to believe that’s what the case is worth? Kevin Flesch understands the way the jury thinks. Call now for a free consultation. 303-806-8886

If you’re just joining us, we’re at LT Arms, 8130 Schaefer Parkway, visiting with the crew here, Evan Lee, Brandon Anderson. It seems like they’ve been on lately. We hadn’t been telling Kyle, the owner, that we’ve been doing it. So, hey, we’re just doing our own thing here now. Well, man, hey, when I came in today, Brandon, you showed me, man, a really cool gun, a Weatherby that came in. And we’re going to get to about you guys getting collections from people, helping them sell them once they realize maybe they don’t need them many times. You know, a husband passes away or something. The wife just doesn’t know what to do with guns. So that’s usually the scenario. We’ll get to that in a second. But, man, tell the audience about this Weatherby you got in.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, we got a phone call from a guy that had a Weatherby. He described it as a really nice old Mark V. And he said, you guys work on guns. I’m having a problem with the bolt. When I’m closing the bolt, the round’s firing. And is that something you guys can do? And I said, yeah, that’s definitely something we can do. And he said, now this is a really nice old Weatherby. I mean, this is probably one you’ve never seen before. And I was like, well, what does it look like? And he said, have you ever heard of a guy named Herb Klein? I was like, yeah, I’ve heard of Herb Klein before. And Herb Klein was the… He was basically the financial power behind Weatherby when it first started. He was financing about half the company. One of the all-time big North American, all over the world actually, big game hunters, hunted with the Shah of Iran. Went all over the place, and he had Weatherby make him their gold-plated high engraving. I can’t even describe it on the radio.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s something you have to see.
SPEAKER 15 :
When you say high engraving, that doesn’t even describe it. No, it’s just ballistics charts on a plate on the stock and everything. Yeah. Yeah, he’s like, the rifle I have belonged to Herb’s grandson, who I’m friends with, lives up in Crested Butte. And so he’s like, do you want me to bring this rifle down? And I was like, you know, he couldn’t get down here fast enough. I told everybody that I was like, you will not believe what’s coming through the doors. And so, yeah, he came down and he just said it was nice. And, you know, when he pulled it out of the case, we were like, yep, that is one of Herb Klein. That is one of those rifles. So. Yeah, we have the fortune to work on it, but it’s, you know, it’s a great historical piece. I mean, Herb was the first winner. Yeah, first winner of the Weatherby Hunting Award. It wasn’t first year. I think it was third or fourth. Third, fourth year, yeah.
SPEAKER 17 :
Jack O’Connor got it before him. Yeah, so he was part of it. Yeah, I could be wrong on that. But, yeah, he was one of the early recipients of the Weatherby Trophy. Yeah. Wow. That is so cool. Yeah, it’s just amazing. The history in your hands when it walks through the door. It’s fantastic. Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
so basically like we said if you’ve got some whether it’s one or two guns or you know a nice collection you guys and you were just telling me about a story where a lady brought in a couple of pieces and another couple and then you’re like hey we can come to you so she finally took advantage of that yeah it turned out it was the right thing because yeah it’s truckloads of stuff it’s going to take
SPEAKER 17 :
ages to do this deal but it was just to piecemeal it down and drive it down the hill it’s like no we’ll just come to you and we’ll catalog everything yeah walk through the process of what you do no we’ll just essentially we’ll come up and we’ll catalog it on site and when we’ll create spreadsheets that we will do all the estimation do the uh the appraisal and everything of all that and then we can transport it back to the shop get it in the books get it publicized photograph written up there’s a lot of process to that and then Get them sold and generate a check. That way it saves them having to keep driving back and forth, all this stuff. And we’ll just go and get it, take care of it, and mail you your proceeds. Right, right.
SPEAKER 04 :
And your fee for that, your commission on that is?
SPEAKER 1 :
20%.
SPEAKER 04 :
20%, yeah. And you know what? People have to understand, and I tell people this all the time. I say, hey, you’ve got to be fair-minded in this and understand. You may have something like this Weatherby that would be worth a lot of money. Okay. But a lot of times, just because something nostalgic to you, it may not be worth what you think. So, again, they’ve got to trust you guys that you’re trying to do them right. You don’t need a museum piece in here. You want to sell it for them. Right. Okay. And so you kind of work with them on pricing and all of that.
SPEAKER 17 :
We kind of average between what current auction prices realized are for that particular item. And I use the Blue Book a little bit. But it’s really… Ultimately, it’s worth what someone’s going to pay for.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 17 :
But we have enough traffic through here, enough customers, and enough firearms at every level of the collector spectrum. We get a pretty good handle on what things are worth, and we generally do realize top dollar for our client.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. Now, you were just telling me in the break that… Some guns come with some really nice optics on it. You will sell them either way. Depends on the customer, but usually they will break them up. Yeah. But got some pretty nice ones in recently. Oh, sure.
SPEAKER 17 :
A pile of Swarovskis recently. This gentleman had all of his rifles scoped with Swarovski, Zeiss, and Leupold, just like to a rifle. And we’re talking dozens of them. Yeah. So, yeah, if you don’t particularly want that scope on that rifle and you just take the rifle home, then we will sell that scope for the client as well separately. And you can generally get a pretty good deal on a piece of high-end glass for less than retail.
SPEAKER 04 :
Sure. If somebody’s listening and they’re thinking, man, okay, the season does open the 15th of October. Maybe it is time to look at a rifle. What would you say your range is? If somebody wants to get a rifle with a scope and it’s all ready to go, what do you think your range of pricing would be?
SPEAKER 17 :
Probably go from, let’s say, 700 out to the mid-2000s. Okay.
SPEAKER 04 :
Wow. That’ll work. Pretty good range. Yeah. And then, again… It’s under no obligation for you to come out and look at the guns, different things like that. If they decide to do business, great. If not, shake hands and we’re here if you decide to differ. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 17 :
Sometimes it takes a little time. Some people have sentimental attachments to their collection. We’re talking about a lifetime collection. They’ve built with their lifelong partner and one of them passes and you don’t want to They don’t want to just jump out and just start throwing that stuff away. So it can take a little bit of time. And we’re cognizant of that and respectful of that. And we’re not here to hurry. We’re here to help you.
SPEAKER 04 :
Now, where we record our shows sometimes, you’ve got a kind of a… cool collection of guns in here. And I know there’s some bayonets and stuff. So, Brandon, I mean, sometimes you get guns where they’re all really, especially in the military deal, you get a lot of weird stuff like that with bayonets, all that kind of stuff with a gun.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, like you were saying, I mean, it ranges from guys that come in that have something that’s more, you know, run-of-the-mill, just your average gun that isn’t, you know, they’re everywhere. You know, guys will come in with a Glock, and they want to get top dollar for it, which… it’s hard to do. And then sometimes people bring in something that, you know, their grandpa brought back from, you know, the middle of a battlefield in the Asia, Belgium in there. This has been in the closet of my house for the last, you know, my family’s, you know, collection for the last 80 years. And the, you know, it’s, it’s something that we, we just got a German, uh, P-38 from World War II, and we just got a 1939 Walther PPK that looks like it was made yesterday. Yeah, all the guns on the wall, we have M1 Grands with bayonets. So yeah, sometimes you get stuff that comes through the door that a guy bought 40 years ago for a couple hundred bucks. He’s like, what do you think I could get for this? I paid $200 for it. I’m like, well, now it’s worth about, you know, 10 or 20 times that. And they always look at you like you’re making it up. And it’s like, no, some of the stuff, yeah, we get some pretty cool high-end collectible stuff that people have just been sitting on and they had no idea what they had. And it’s a pretty happy day for them. For both sides, we’re excited to have it in the store, and they’re excited too. Some of these guys are financing their retirement off of these guys.
SPEAKER 03 :
It’s pretty impressive.
SPEAKER 04 :
No doubt, no doubt. We mentioned the show. You started off with saying everything you guys have here, and you mentioned taxidermy, so I want to mention our friend Keith. If you’ve been around the Denver area long, Hunter T’s taxidermy was Keith’s operation and came into partnership with LT Arms. So now he’s here with you guys. People looking for a good taxidermist, you can handle all that right here?
SPEAKER 15 :
Absolutely. He does some amazing work, and he is… If you have anything, it’s a good idea to get it here as soon as you can because his workload is increasing by the day, and he’s working on… We have a 10-foot grizzly that is coming in for a full body mount. He has all kinds of moose, and I mean, his workload over the past few months, I mean… there’s probably five times the amount of stuff that was in there when he came in. He had some cool stuff in there, but now he’s doing some really, really nice stuff. All the stuff that’s in this room he did, we have a zebra mount in here that he did, and the turkey that’s sitting in between us.
SPEAKER 04 :
I did a good job there.
SPEAKER 17 :
The Africans in the showroom and Kyle’s recent water buffalo. We’ve got some nice examples of his work on the wall. And we’re always glad to take people over there and show them what’s going on. He’s always very welcoming to have folks in his studio.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yep, absolutely. The weather’s going to be changing now, hopefully a little cooler. But I can tell you I’ve heard a lot of nightmare stories. with some different processors for meat and with taxidermists where people just aren’t taking care of the animal out in the field. I mean, it was really warm over these last months. Oh, man. Archery started, muzzleloader, different things. And, man, I’ve heard a lot of stories about that. So we’re going to try to get Keith on. next week or so to try to give some field tips out there to you know taking care of it because they’re taxidermists they’re not magicians okay and uh man you gotta take care of that animal out in the field oh yeah he always has some great stories to tell too so yeah it’d be a good time i bet i bet once again it is lt arms 81 30 shaffer parkway now what are the hours
SPEAKER 15 :
We are open 10 to 7, Monday through Friday, and then 10 to 4 on Saturday. Sunday is the only day we’re closed.
SPEAKER 04 :
Like Kyle, he’s a slave driver. He is. Yeah. Hey, come see the guys. Anything we forgot we need to touch on?
SPEAKER 17 :
Not this week. I’m feeling overwhelmed already. It’s only Thursday.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. Well, hey, thanks for having me out, and we’ll look forward to our visit next time. Yeah, thanks for having us on. We appreciate it. All right. Thanks, Scott. Once again, that is Evan Lee, Brandon Anderson. And when you come over to the store, be sure and let them know you heard them here on the show. And I’m telling you, if you want to get into reloading or you’re into it and you have some questions, Evan can help you. And Brandon, of course, can get you all around the store, show you everything. If you need some gunsmithing work, it is here, and that crew is ready to help you as well. It is LT Arms, 8130 Schaefer Parkway, the number 720-727-0400. This is Sportsman of Colorado. We’ll be back with more right after this.
SPEAKER 06 :
Hey, Dan. You know, our jobs are pretty different. I’m a baseball announcer. You’re an attorney and a talk show host. Yeah, but we do have something in common.
SPEAKER 05 :
Really? What’s that? Our favorite car dealer, Len Lyle Chevrolet. Yeah, definitely not your typical dealership. That’s so true, Jack. No high-pressure sales tactics. They respect your time. And when you have two jobs, that’s important.
SPEAKER 06 :
You know, I’d recommend Len Lyle Chevrolet to anyone. And with their low overhead, that means… Lower prices.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, we really do have something in common.
SPEAKER 06 :
Len Lyle Chevrolet. Go east and pay the least. Chevy. Find new roads.
SPEAKER 04 :

Here’s your Water Talk Minute with Paul the Waterman, brought to you by Water Pros.
SPEAKER 01 :
Folks, everybody needs to go to the EPA website and check out the contaminated candidate list. There’s unregulated contaminants that have been in our drinking water forever. And what that means is that municipalities don’t have to test for them. So we have 1,4-dioxin. It’s an unregulated contaminant that’s been in the water supply since the early 1900s. We have synthetic estrogen that’s in our water supply. We have pesticides, herbicides in our water supply. So this is something that educate yourself. This is why we need a point-of-use reverse osmosis system for our drinking water, because of all the contaminants that the EPA is not allowing our municipalities to tell us about.
SPEAKER 13 :
AM 560 KLZ, your home station.
SPEAKER 04 :
Welcome back to Sportsman of Colorado. Well, I tell you, when we thought of this idea back in late 2012, one of the first stores that came on board with us and became a partner with us here at Sportsman of Colorado is our next guest, Billy Paddock with the Outdoorsman’s Attic. And, hey, in the last quarter here now. of 2025 uh closing out our 13th year um he helped us get started and continues to help us so for that a public thank you billy paddock how are you well thank you and now i just know exactly how long it’s been son i’m i was sitting there kind of thinking before you came on and i was like man time is crazy i tell you as you get older just ah it just gets gets by us
SPEAKER 08 :
It sure does. Yeah. I mean, I remember, you know, when we when we started our shop and everything, it was shortly right before you you started on the radio. And I think it’s been mutual. You’ve helped us out a lot. You’ve helped us grow throughout the years. And I truly appreciate your listeners as well.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, well, I tell you, man, I’ve always complimented on your idea of a consignment store for hunting, fishing, and camping. And I’m telling you, it’s just a great idea. And, folks, if you haven’t been by or haven’t been by in a while, I highly recommend you go by. I was just about the other day checking out things because I’m telling you, you need to go in about every couple of days because things change rapidly. But it’s 2650 West Hamden, actually in Sheridan. but just right off of Santa Fe and Hamden there. Used to be the old camera trader building there, so kind of on that service road there. The back of the store faces the main drag of Hamden, but you can see it quite easily. Well, Billy, like I say, I was in there the other day, man. You got a lot of stuff upstairs and downstairs. I tell you, we’ll start downstairs. Man, a lot of good fishing equipment going on. Saw a lot of
SPEAKER 08 :
look like some tents you had down there so kind of give us a virtual tour through the radio yeah holy cow we’re swelling up something fierce down there so yeah guys are switching out gear tis the season you know we got elk season coming up we’re kind of getting into the thick of it here I’m even getting the archery guys bringing in their stuff now to get rid of because they’ve already filled their tags or given it up so there’s quite a bit of stuff coming in I’ve got geez, at least half a dozen ball tents in here now, you know, ranging from like a 14 by 16 all the way up to a gigantic, you know, 15 by 22. You don’t really have a party. Um, and they’re in excellent shape. I mean, one, one guy, you know, it’s, it’s a story that I hear all the time. You know, I got a bunch of buddies, we’re going to go elk hunting and then things change. And so, uh, one tent looks brand new. I don’t think he ever touched it. Um, they had great intentions, but Now it’s somebody’s chance to get a good deal. You know, they’re all Davis tents, so everybody knows the quality of Davis.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. Very, very good tent for sure. And sleeping bags and, man, you know, you can just go through the list of things you have for camping or what you may need to set up a campsite there for hunting. But, man, I can’t think of anything, man, you don’t have covered there. Yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Yeah, you know, I tell everybody that walks in the store, I got one of everything. It’s just a matter of finding it in here. Just trying to organize one of one is really difficult for us. So if you got the digger kind of attitude, this is the perfect spot for you. You know, you can definitely find the right item without breaking the bank.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right, right. Hey, while we’re downstairs, we’ve got to mention the antique down there, Scott, your gunsmith. Be sure and tell him to listen to this. But seriously, man, now’s the time to get in. Don’t wait until another couple of weeks when the season opens. Man, get in there.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, he’s busy. Guys are keeping him really busy, but he’s always up for that last-minute sight in or gun repair and everything to get guys back out because that’s what he really enjoys is to to have people enjoy their, their, their firearms and get back out, not just sitting in a shelf. So from simple cleanings all the way to major repairs, I mean, there’s nothing that Scotty can’t do. Um, he’s, he’s been a wealth of knowledge here and he’s taught me a lot throughout the years that I’ve known him. Um, and it’s, uh, I, I call him dumb guy questions. So when I go down there, you know, I say it’s a dumb guy question of the day and I’ll, I’ll hit him with something that I don’t know. And, You know, it doesn’t even take a second for him to rattle off the answer for it.
SPEAKER 04 :
So, great guy. Absolutely. Billy Paddock is our guest. Once again, it’s the Outdoorsman’s Attic, 2650 West Hampton there in Sheridan. When you go in, be sure and let them know you heard them here on the show. And we thank you for that. And last thing on fishing, we do want to mention you carry some live bait down there as well.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yep, yep, yeah. Ice season hopefully is going to be a good season this year, the fall catch. Guys are still bringing in a bunch of pictures from Antero, holy cow. I guess that’s been going like gangbusters up there. Yeah, I mean, again, there’s no reason to pay retail, guys, if I got it. It’s a good way to save a buck.
SPEAKER 04 :
And, you know, you do get quite an array. I mean, I’ve seen things brand new in a package. You know, you get some things that are slightly used. And, again, you don’t take in junk. I just know how to say it. You know, if you don’t want to use it anymore or, you know, because of the shape it’s in, it’s probably not something to bring. But you carry a great array of stuff. product there folks and so again i want to make 100 clear it is camping fishing and hunting gear accessories anything that falls under that umbrella you can certainly get with billy and let them take it in all right moving upstairs there now notice man your ammo counter is pretty full yeah we’re we’re fully stocked with ammo i can’t believe it yeah long gone are the days that we couldn’t get anything you know so you know even the reloading stuff’s fully stocked again um
SPEAKER 08 :
I got a lot of unique calibers up there. Primers, of course, are back almost everywhere now, but I do have them. Sure. Some powders, a lot of bullets, a lot of reloading accessories, too, some dyes and some presses, that kind of thing. Yeah, I mean, it’s, again, you know, guys, you know, they’ll come in and they’ll be like, oh, man, I’ve been shopping on Amazon buying these primers. these dyes for X amount and you’ve got them brand new, right. Sitting right here for half of it. Right. Oh yeah. You know, and, and we’re all kind of guilty of this, you know, in our sports, um, we get into something, we think it’s going to be great, you know, buy all the junk for it. And then all of a sudden it’s like, well, that didn’t work out or my buddies are flakes and they don’t want to go on with me. And so that’s where a lot of the stuff comes from guys is, you know, we’ll change calibers or whatever it is. And, Why have that just sit inside your closet collecting dust? Turn it into some money and go buy the next greatest thing, you know?
SPEAKER 04 :
I know. Exactly. And, you know, so if you’ve got some things, if you’re looking through, hey, you’ve gone through spring, summer now, and into fall. So, hey, if you’ve got some gear hanging around there and you’re like, man, might as well turn this into cash, I’m telling you, this is the place to do it. You know, Billy, it cracks me up when I look on Marketplace on Facebook sometimes. I’m like… man, who would want a bunch of people coming to your house? You know what I mean? And then you just don’t know how the transaction is going to go and money and all the different things. I mean, this is a safe way to do it. And I tell people all the time for this, too. I mean, you’ve got to be realistic in what you’re wanting to sell something for. But if you’re realistic about it, I mean, you are going to tend to get a little bit, I think, more money for something in a store setting, you know, than putting something in a garage or something.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, I mean, you know, a perfect example is the lady that, you know, her husband unfortunately passed away and she was trying to deal with the marketplace thing because her daughter told her to try and sell this stuff. And it was an absolute nightmare for her. You know, for one, I don’t know what it is about Facebook marketplace, but everybody takes your price and cuts it in half and then starts the negotiation process. And she got really fed up with that. And so, contacted me and i mean we’ve sold thousands of dollars of her stuff and she’s she can’t be happier and she doesn’t have to deal with the public that’s what i’m for that’s what me and willie are here for um you know not that we’re mean to anybody because i mean everybody gets a good deal in my shop well of course yeah i want everybody to to be happy and all that but at the same time you know let me do the negotiation you don’t need to do that kind of stuff so
SPEAKER 04 :
And you kind of work that out with customers when they come in to, first of all, to see if it’s a good fit, to see if they’re realistic. Because, I mean, I know you’ve had the folks that come in and they think, oh, this has probably gone up in value since I’ve owned it. Probably not.
SPEAKER 08 :
Just because it’s old doesn’t mean that it’s a collector item. There are stuff out there that I’ve surprised a lot of people with what I can get out of stuff that’s from the 60s. But Not everything is that way. There’s value to most of the stuff that comes in, though. It really is. And that’s the fun part about it is stuff that I’ve never seen before, I still get into the shop and go, oh, man, that’s a different way of catching a fish or that’s never seen that item for camping. It’s kind of fun. It’s kind of fun to walk around the shop, too, and see all that stuff.
SPEAKER 04 :
I know, yeah. Hey, great selection of packs, too. I mean, you’ve got all – I was just looking through the other day. You’ve got some good frame packs in there, and you’ve got some small packs. And, again, I always think about kids, too, and hopefully parents getting their kids out in the outdoors. If you’re looking for some things there – I mean, I’ll be honest, kid sizes are hard to find a lot. But as far as some packs, different things like that, man, you’ve got all kinds of sizes of packs in there.
SPEAKER 08 :
That’s just it. I mean, the kids, they go through stuff so quickly. And a lot of it, you know, like clothing and the footwear. If the kid gets, you know, three or four uses out of a pair of boots and everything, and they bring it back in, they look new. And, you know, that next person is going to get a value for that. and then they’re not going to have that sticker shock of going, oh, I just bought a pair of $200 Danners for my kid that’s going to grow out of them in six weeks. Right, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 08 :
But, yeah, we’ve got a ton of packs in right now. I mean, I’ve got a ton of orange clothing right now, a lot of camo gear, and that stuff, as much as I don’t want to be a clothing store, sometimes it turns into a clothing store, and so we like to try and, and clear that out of here before the season ends guys. So, uh, now’s your chance to get good deals on, on some of the top quality clothing that I’ve got.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. And you never know what type of optics you get, but you know, from time to time, boy, you get some great optics in there. I know you’ve got some spotting scopes. I think I saw in there the other day, uh, you got that and also some knives, man, you got a pretty good selection of knives in there.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, we do. I’ve got a lot of skinning knives, you know, um, You know, gut knives, you know, a lot of outdoor edge stuff with the replacement blades, which a lot of guys are switching to because They’re like me and get a little lazy and don’t want to have to sharpen a knife.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, me too. Me too. I’m guilty. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. So, yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, good. Well, folks, get by and see Billy and Haley in there and let them know, again, when you stop by, you heard them here on Sportsman of Colorado. And great family-owned store. I tell you what, great folks to support. If you’re looking for a good deal on some product, this is the place. If you’ve got some gear you’re just not using anymore, and I’ll go back to the kid thing. Hey, if you’ve got some kids’ sizes and things, boy, this is something they could really use. And you know what? You would be helping another young person out get some good gear there. All right, bud. Well, hey, we appreciate it, and I’ll get by and see you soon.
SPEAKER 08 :
All right. Sounds good. Thanks for all the support.
SPEAKER 04 :
Thank you, bud. All right. Appreciate it. You’re listening to Sportsman of Colorado. We’ve got to hit a quick break, and we’ll be back with more right after this.

SPEAKER 04 :
Welcome back to Sportsman of Colorado. Hey, before we get out of here today, we saved the best for last. That’s exactly the way our next guest told me to say it, so I said it like he wrote it. Winn Eubank joins us from Colorado Outdoors Sports. Winn, how are you?
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m good, Scott. How about yourself?
SPEAKER 04 :
I’m good, man. I’m good. Hey, I know we only got a few minutes today, but Wynn is going to join us next week. Maybe you’re new to Colorado. Maybe you’ve lived here for your whole life. But if you are looking for some great properties to hunt and become a part of a great hunt club, this is it. Colorado Outdoor Sports. And Wynn has been a great friend of ours personally and with the show since we started. And he’s got some great properties. And we’re going to touch on that a little bit here at the end of the show today. But, Wynn, you just heard a couple of great guests that we had. Billy Paddock with the Outdoorsman’s Attic. And you’ve known Billy a long time as well. And you’ve been a client there for a long time.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes. He’s right down the street from me, right off of 285.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yep. I mean, it’s awesome, man. And I’ll tell you, you never know what you’re going to find in there. Would you agree with that? Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
Totally, you know, and you’ve got to pop back in now and again. I found a $180 pair of Rocky boots almost in brand-new condition for $25 off, for $25.
SPEAKER 04 :
For $25, wow, okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, the heavy-duty insulated ones, size 11, exactly what my size, and it was like, hey, I used to have a pair of those. Those were great boots. For $25, I’m taking them home.
SPEAKER 04 :
Man, no doubt, no doubt. And as we said on Billy’s segment, hey, it’s hunting, fishing, camping, and a lot of great gear. And if you’ve got gear, again, you’re not using, run it by and let them know. Once again, you heard them here on Sportsman of Colorado. And LT Arms, I mean, a great store over in Littleton there off of Kipling. And you’ve been a client there as well.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes. Kyle and the boys have modified five of my wife’s guns and shorten them up for them. They’ve also customized a couple cowboy guns for me. They do great work. Everything has been done exactly as I’ve asked for and in great time frame.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yep, yep. They’re a great, great store. We’re so proud to have them here on the show with us as well. Well, let’s talk about Colorado outdoor sports here for a few minutes and, um, kind of for those that, you know, aren’t familiar and haven’t heard about you before, which I know that would probably only be one or two people in Colorado, but, uh, for those that don’t know, uh, how’d all this get started with Colorado outdoor sports?
SPEAKER 07 :
So I joined Colorado outdoor sports almost 30 years ago. And, uh, another person owned it at that time. And then, uh, before it was all done. he ended up not being able to continue with it. And, uh, I ended up purchasing it from him. And, uh, uh, I bought it 17 years ago. I can’t believe it’s been that long. And, uh, uh, I’ve taken it in some different directions. I, I think for the most part, better directions. Um, we’re very diversified. We do a little bit of a big game, a little bit of fishing, a whole bunch of waterfowl, um, That’s the primary in Colorado. But we did a little bit of rifle season for antelope open this morning, and we shot a very, very nice buck down in Unit 128. Yep.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, I saw that, man. That was awesome. So how would you say, and next week we’ll have a lot more time, but how would you say, and you talk to a lot of people that belong to other clubs, and I’m sure some of your members even maybe have a couple of clubs they belong to, but what would you say is some of the high points and differences and what people tell you, you know, the difference between you and some of the others that are around the state?
SPEAKER 07 :
The very first thing is the diversity because we do have fishing and we do have other hunting and we have a little bit of camping and So we kind of mix it up a little bit compared to some other clubs that are primarily focused on waterfowl. The thing is we’re extremely family-oriented. So in other words, if there’s a six-man pit, we do have some next week we’ll get in more about all that. But if there’s a six-man pit and you and your daughter reserve that pit, you are not mandated to put four other people in that blind with you. Because we’re family-oriented, and I don’t want another person in there being offensive to your daughter in any fashion, either trigger finger, foul mouth, rude behavior, anything like that. You don’t have to share that.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. And you do have some pretty good rules. I mean, there is a, you know, how you want people to act and treat property, right?
SPEAKER 07 :
And treat other landowners and treat other members.
SPEAKER 04 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep, and normally I only have to pick up the phone once or twice, and then everybody kind of toes the line.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right, right. And so just to make it clear, there’s no guiding involved here. They simply go online, and again, next week we’ll have more time to go into this, but they’ll go to ColoradoOutdoorSports.com. All your reservations are done online like that. They can set up their reservations. And as you said, that’s their deal for that day, right?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep, yep, yep. You know, it’s funny. I’ve never had to pick up the phone and recommend you about the rules, you know, you being a member and all.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, I know. Hey, I try to be a very, very good member. I try to leave a property like I’ve never been there, right? Yeah, that’s what I try to do, man. But, you know, seriously, that is something. And I think that’s why it is tough for people like yourself to go knock on a door with a farm rancher and, man, some guy in the past blew it. And that is a very serious thing, right?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I could not get on to a quarry up in Idaho Springs for sheep hunting because For that exact reason, the guy was told to stay out of the very special section because they were blasting in there. And two days later, they found him in that section. And for liability reasons, they said, never again. Nope, never again.
SPEAKER 04 :
Wow. Well, it’s ColoradoOutdoorSports.com. Hey, do yourself a favor. Go check it out today and write down a few questions. And like I say, Wynn’s going to join us next week on the show. But his number, if you’ve got questions after just hearing what you’ve heard, give him a call, 720-300-9400. Again, that’s 720-300-9400. And I’m telling you, once you sit down with Wynn and go through all the different properties he has, man, a few years ago I went out just on a doe hunt real quick. And, man, beautiful property. And it was everything that Wynn said it was. And it’s always nice when you do business with someone, it ends up that way. This is a guy that we know, trust, and stand behind 100%, and you can as well. So check out Colorado Outdoor Sports, and once again, give Wynn a call, 720-300-9400. Wynn will be a part of our Mile High Hunting Fish Expo this March, and we’ll talk about that some next week as well. And Wynn, we appreciate it, and man, we’re going to have a good show next week with you, and thanks for jumping on here a few minutes with me today.
SPEAKER 07 :
Absolutely, and they can find us on the web at ColoradoOutdoorSports.com.
SPEAKER 04 :
All right, you got it. I want to thank all of our guests today. Mostly thank you for being with us. Hope you have a great rest of your weekend, and we will talk to you next week.
