This hour, with its urgent focus on generational wealth and financial planning, forces you to rethink retirement, self-sufficiency, and the responsibility we owe the next generation. But the conversation doesn’t stay calm for long. SPEAKER 05 :
This is Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 02 :
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes.
SPEAKER 05 :
With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 02 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did.
SPEAKER 12 :
Get a job, sir. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 01 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 12 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 11 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. Presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 14 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Hour number two, Eric Ware joining us now. Eric, welcome back. How are you?
SPEAKER 08 :
I’m doing great.
SPEAKER 14 :
Always a joy having you, author of Who’s Eating Your Pie? Essential Financial Advice That’ll Transform Your Life. I talked about this briefly Thursday, Eric, and that’s the introduction of, we’ll see where this goes, but the 50-year mortgage. And there’s pros and cons. Let’s talk about some of those, if you would.
SPEAKER 08 :
Absolutely, absolutely. So if you look at it, I always recommend people that buy a home that they can afford to pay off over 15 years. And a 15-year payment is about a third larger than a 30-year mortgage payment. Correct. Interesting enough, a 50-year mortgage is only about 10% cheaper than a 30-year mortgage. You’re not saving that much.
SPEAKER 14 :
Right.
SPEAKER 08 :
And your interest you pay is almost double.
SPEAKER 14 :
Right. Right. No, you’re right. And I did the math last week for folks, and I did a $500,000 mortgage at, I don’t know, 6%, and you save about $380, $360. I can’t remember. The notes aren’t in front of me, but somewhere around that end of things. Now, I understand there might be some folk whereby… That’s enough to be able to get them into a home whereby they may be currently renting. I had a lot of investors, by the way, that sent something in that basically said, hey, as investors, this is a great thing because we can now cash flow things out. And by the way, we don’t really care when that’s paid off because somebody else is actually funding it. We’re getting the appreciation out of the house over time. Again, there’s different schools of thought on this. And I’m not saying anything right, wrong or otherwise. Those are just the schools of thought.
SPEAKER 08 :
Correct. At the end of the day, it’s math, and you’ve got to know math and have to know your personal behavior.
SPEAKER 13 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 08 :
So most people understand the math and say, hey, I have a 15-year mortgage, $141,000 of interest, and a $250,000 mortgage. That’s less than half of what you borrow. 30-year mortgage, you pay $318,000. That’s more than… More than a 50-year mortgage, it’s just under $600,000 of interest. That’s more than double. Now, if you get a mortgage and you say, I’m right out of college, I need a little break, that 10% means the world to me, fine. But either make extra payments or refinance it, because 50 years is just a long time to have a mortgage.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, I mean, I guess the other way, and I talked about this last week, too, Eric, that you could do. Now, again, this requires discipline, and a lot of folks even with a 30-year mortgage don’t have – discipline to do this. But you can get that 50-year mortgage and start doubling up on principal payments and doing things to still get there in that 15-year mark, having enough cushion where if something happened and you had a month or two where maybe it’s a little bit of a struggle or maybe you’re self-employed or whatever. And I understand those circumstances, Eric. And again, to your point, as long as you’re disciplined and you know the math, I’m not opposed to a 50-year mortgage, but don’t get in upside down.
SPEAKER 08 :
You can’t – and mortgage, the root word, mort, means death. Engage is like – it indicates perpetuity. So it’s payment unto death is what mortgage means, just right there on its face. And 50 years, that’s for most people. It depends what age you get it. That’s your whole life. You’re never having to pay it off home. To your point, if you make extra payments, I mean, it certainly could be a tool. It certainly gives you some optionality. But at the same time, it’s a long term.
SPEAKER 14 :
No, and again, I think the other comment I made last Thursday was very few people – well, and I was actually a little bit wrong. I think 60 percent of American homebuyers do end up paying off their mortgage, which, by the way, was a higher number, Eric, than I thought it was. But there’s a lot of folks that I understand roll mortgages. In other words, they’ll live in a home for five years. They make good equity. They decide to sell, go to the next one, go to the next one. And again, to each his own as far as how those things go. To your point, and I think this is where it’s really critical, and this is something that folks don’t have enough training in, and this is where your book comes into play. Know where you’re at at any given time, and as long as you’re using it in the right manner so you can financially get ahead, go for it.
SPEAKER 08 :
I mean, debt in general is a phenomenal tool, but it can also backfire on you.
SPEAKER 14 :
It can also be your enemy.
SPEAKER 08 :
Exactly. And in this case, 50 years is just a long, long time. The average marriage lasts 20 years in America. If you look at all the ones that last all the way to your past, to like the ones that don’t last for long at all. So this is two and a half times the average duration of a marriage. So there’s lots of ways to look at it. So it’s like, geez, I’ve never met anybody. That said, man, I wish my house wasn’t paid off. True. So if you can do it, if you can do a 15-year, I think that’s the way to go. To your point, and it is a tool, if you do 50 years and you make extra payments or you get depreciation, as the investor was saying, that’s fine. But still, to the extent you can, you’ve got to make extra payments in my view.
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, and I said this last week, I want to get your opinion on this. This is my thought. I could be completely wrong, although I don’t think I am. This is the White House’s way of doing end around Jerome Powell, knowing he won’t lower rates, meaning he won’t get the real estate market cranked up like it could be doing if he would actually get involved in this. So my feeling, Eric, is this is the White House or Trump’s way of poking Jerome Powell back in the eye.
SPEAKER 08 :
That could be. That could be. I don’t disagree with that. In other parts of the world, they have longer-term mortgages.
SPEAKER 13 :
They do.
SPEAKER 08 :
They do. And the cost of housing has just gotten out of sight recently. So for people, it might be helpful. You’re the first-time homebuyer. But again, there’s just risk with it. There is. And you have to know yourself.
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, and I think, and this is where, as somebody that owns some real estate and has done some of that, Eric, this comes down to knowing your property. You know, three keys to success, location, location, location. When it comes to business, the same is true with real estate. So as long as you’re buying in the right area, you know there’s going to be a pretty known upside, which here in Colorado, Eric, there are certain places that I can almost guarantee you there would be. Well, I’ll give you one example. If you go buy a property in Boulder, Colorado, you’re never losing.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
Ever.
SPEAKER 08 :
Boulder’s a strong market.
SPEAKER 14 :
That’s my hometown. That’s where I grew up. I’m a native of there. And I can tell you right now, Eric, that even in the hit of 2008, and I owned property there at that time, we probably saw a 3% to 5% decrease that only lasted less than 12 months. That’s incredible. I mean, there’s not very many places in the country that could say that.
SPEAKER 08 :
No, no, I agree with that 100%.
SPEAKER 14 :
So my point is, okay, if you know that you can be in one of those particular areas and even get your foot in the door, even if it is a 50-year and you’re disciplined and you can get that thing paid for even faster or use that as a way to build equity and then use that equity to help yourself out financially down the road, well, then knock your socks off. But that key again, Eric, is location, location, location.
SPEAKER 08 :
It really is, and another argument in favor of it is the devaluation of the dollar. So you’re borrowing money. Warren Buffett was saying when he could buy for two or three cents when he was born, it would cost a dollar now. So it’s amazing the devaluation of the dollar. So that’s another point that’s in favor of debt. But at the same time, to your point, I totally agree, and it’s location, location, location, and discipline. Add that to it as well.
SPEAKER 14 :
You’ve got to have that on top of it. Yeah, and that whole topic of, you know, you have debt, but you’re paying that debt back, and so you get the debt today, but down the road you’re paying it off with inflated dollars. Yeah, that’s a hard one to explain, by the way, to folk, unless you’ve actually got a whiteboard or something where you can actually sit down and draw it out. But it’s not a wrong argument, but I think my advice, and yours is probably the same, just be careful when you look at it that way.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, 100%.
SPEAKER 1 :
100%.
SPEAKER 08 :
At the end of the day, it’s cash flow. And if you’re starting out and you’re buying a home, really think about it. If you’re pushing yourself where you need a 50-year mortgage, maybe just buy a smaller house. Good point. And just start there and build over time. I’ve talked to a real estate agent. What they said is when a person gets their letter from the bank or mortgage institute, here’s what you can afford, they almost always start at the top of the list and spend every bit they can.
SPEAKER 14 :
Great segue. I’m going to talk about that when we come back because I think that’s another big thing that we don’t talk about enough as a country. How do folks get your book, Eric?
SPEAKER 08 :
They can find it on Amazon. Look up Who’s Eating Your Pie or look up my website, Eric Weir, E-R-I-K-W-E-I-R. And this is the same on Instagram. It’s at Eric Weir at Instagram.
SPEAKER 14 :

It’s my pleasure, and thank you.

SPEAKER 10 :
Putting reason into your afternoon drive, this is John Rush.
SPEAKER 14 :
All right, I hate to go back to this topic, but getting enough text messages in where I feel like I’m going to have to, which is the whole Jew-hating, anti-Israel end of things. Several of you have texted in, by the way, and have said, yep, it’s no wonder with all of the anti-Israel, anti-Jew stuff that’s on social media, it’s no wonder that it’s not getting worse. And by the way, by design, and you guys that have texted me that have agreed and have said that, yes, it’s by design. And it is, in fact, by design, absolutely 100% by design. And those of you that are buying into that, you’re being fooled. You’re being gamed, literally. I’ve had others that have said, you know, why is it okay for certain talk show hosts to hate Christians that, in fact, in this case, it’s somebody local who’s a Jew himself, and yet he hates Christians. Well, why is it okay to not hate him then? Because two wrongs don’t make it right. That’s not how this works. And you guys know that. This is elementary stuff, folks. Just because somebody, you know, because somebody, in this case, a Jew hates a Christian, should I hate him back? Of course not. And that’s not even what Scripture says. It’s very clear on that, by the way. Christ himself said, turn the other cheek. So, no, that’s not how this works. And you all know that. I feel like I’m teaching Sunday school sometimes here. It’s like, this is elementary stuff, folks. It’s not that difficult. We don’t act that way. Or we’re not supposed to. Somebody else texted in earlier and said, I think everybody has some sort of a racist tendency. And I said, well, frankly, the way I was raised, no, I don’t. But I do hate stupid people. Ask my wife. I hate stupid people. They drive me crazy. And what I mean by stupid people is not people with low IQ that struggle with certain things and so on. No, I’m talking about, in some cases, like Governor Polis, very smart, intelligent people that are dumb as rocks. I hate those kind of people. I know, hate’s a strong word, but they drive me crazy. You’ve got all of this information and, you know, in some cases, talent right in front of you, and yet you’re dumb as a rock. Those people drive me crazy. Again, you can ask anybody that’s close to me that knows me, friends, family, whatever, and they know that drives me crazy because it does. I can’t stand that. I don’t like stupid people. Because to me, there’s no excuse for it. Not in today’s world. Not with all of the information and everything else we have at our fingertips, there is no reason in today’s world to be stupid. So when somebody texted and said, there’s probably a little bit of racism in everybody, I don’t think that’s true. I think there’s a lot of genuine people out there that just love people in general. And what I’ve learned by traveling the globe and being in a lot of foreign countries and doing a lot of missionary work and things like that, I will tell you straight up that there’s good and bad of everybody. Just like there’s good and bad in every industry. There’s some great doctors, there’s some crappy ones. There’s some really good lawyers, there’s some really ugly ones. There’s some great auto technicians, and there’s some real thieves out there. There’s some great dentists. There’s others that’ll kill you, as in the case of his wife. I mean, we just saw that case here recently. I mean, bottom line, there is good and bad of everything because humans are involved. And to just label, though, a people group as being, you know, quote-unquote evil because they’re that people group, folks, that’s just utter racism. There’s no other way to say it. You’re a racist. Period. Through and through. If you’re basically anti-whatever, I don’t care what the people group is, you’re a racist. Because in every people group, there’s good and bad, including Caucasians. proving that today with some of you texting. Sorry, but you’re one of those. So at the end of the day, I’m not against any people group because they’re a people group. I am against certain individuals for the way they live, the way they believe, and so on. I’m getting this other, you know, texture that continues to tell me that because Jeffrey Epstein, who is probably the biggest pedophile ever known to mankind, he was a Jew. What’s that got to do with anything? Is that to say that I don’t know what nationality Jeffrey Dahmer was, Charlie, the cannibal-eating guy that was basically killing his next-door neighbors and doing all sorts of just nasty stuff nobody even wants to talk about? I don’t know what nationality he was, but that would be like labeling everybody that’s a part of his people group a cannibal. Folks, you realize how stupid that sounds? Just because Jeffrey Epstein was a Jew doesn’t mean every Jew is like him. You are a moron if you think that. Sorry, I have no other way to say this. You’re an utter moron if you think that. Your brain cells have—I don’t know what’s happened to them. You’ve been corrupted by something, I guess. I don’t know what to say. But that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. I mean, that’s like saying, you know, there’s lots of, by the way, immoral and corrupt preachers that are out there. I’ve watched some of these guys, you know, on YouTube, and I’ll give you, I could even name some of these things off, where these guys are more worried about their next private jet than they are really saving souls. Does that mean all preachers are bad? Of course not. I mean, I can go down the list. I mean, there were, we already know that in the Catholic end of things, there was a lot of priests that were really into pedophilia and so on. Does that mean every priest is bad? No. No. I mean, listen to yourself when you say things like that. You sound really stupid, by the way, when you say things like that. Very ignorant. You don’t understand how things work if you’re going to go out on a limb and say something to that effect. Well, just because Jeffrey Epstein was a Jew, all Jews are bad. That’s got to be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. I’ve been accused throughout the text line today of loving Jews just because they’re Jews. Folks, that’s not what I said, nor have I said that through this last segment. I love all people. I don’t care what people group they come from. And I’m not going to criticize a particular people group just because they’re a people group. That’s a racist. I’m not doing that. That’s not how I was raised. And furthermore, it’s not fair to the rest of the people that are in that group that are good, solid people. And there’s a lot of them. I have a lot of great, solid Jewish friends, some of which are Christians, by the way. So some of you that are attacking me for believing the way that I do, you’re clueless. You have no idea what you’re talking about. And by the way, you need a heart check. I don’t know how else to say that, but you need a real solid heart check. Some of you definitely that are texting in need one in a big way. Some of you so-called Christians need a heart check. In fact, I’m going to go as far as to say this. If you’re a Christian, I don’t want to be one. Now, I am, and I’m not going to not be one, but you get my drift. If you are what Christianity is all about, I want nothing to do with it. Zero. Zero. Because you are about as anti-Christian as it gets. So I probably won’t talk about it. Well, I probably have to come back and talk about this again. Because unfortunately, as several of you have texted and have said, social media is making this worse. And too many people rely on and watch and I guess look at social media as, you know, the end all. I don’t. I mean, I learn a lot of things on social media, but I don’t look at it as the end all. And every single thing that I hear on social media or I might think, oh, let me see if that’s right or not. You go investigate first. For me personally, before I even share anything on here, I go look at it first. Is this really true or not? AI getting bigger and bigger all the time, by the way. That’s a whole other topic I might get into. I believe as of last week, first time ever that an AI song and singer went to the top of the charts, and it’s an AI song. I think I saw that, right, Charlie? I’m pretty sure that was the case. There was an AI, I think it’s a country song, last week that went to the top of the charts, and it’s all AI. So AI is getting stronger and stronger, and my point is even applying to some of this, because it can be used, like I say all the time, for good, or it can be used for evil. And I’m afraid to say that some of you out there, even some of you quote-unquote Christians, Watch far too many things that corrupt your mind, and you have no idea what you’re really talking about at the end, because you’re not grounded. I’ll just say that straight up. You’re not grounded. So some of you need to go back to Sunday school or get the good book out and do a little more reading on what’s actually in there, because some of you are really warped in what you think Scripture says. And let me just give you a little heads up as a side note. And I do get this text message periodically. I’m not Andy. I’m not a minister. I have no ministerial credentials whatsoever, but I know it very well. Unlike Andy, I grew up in it. I have probably been to more church services than probably most anybody out there listening has been. And I’m not exaggerating when I say that. When you go to Christian school and you go to chapel five days a week and then you go Sunday night, Sunday morning, Sunday school, Sunday, Sunday night, Wednesday night, Thursday night visitation, you get the drift. I’ve been to a ton of church services in my lifetime. On top of that, I have taught adult Sunday school and, and, and, and, and. And, you know, am I, Andy, you know, as far as, you know, doctrinally speaking goes, no, can I hold my own? Yes. All day long. And some of you that think you’re going to prove me wrong about the Jews, you’re not. You’re not. And I know that because I know the scriptures better than you do. And that’s not to boast. I’m just being very honest with you. You think you’re going to somehow trip me up with some Bible verse? It’s not going to happen. I also got this as a comeback to the anti-Jews. You know, what were the Sadducees and Pharisees? They were a part of a people group that were very bad and evil, and they didn’t want their world changed, just like the establishment or the, you know, the swamp is in D.C. right now. It was very similar. Does that mean that every Jew was bad? No, because last I checked, Christ at that time had lots of Jewish followers, 11 of them to be exact. Actually, we had Paul back in in the mix, 12. Most gave their life for what their belief was. All but, I think, two did, if I’m not mistaken, one or two. And yet they were Jews, so I could use the same analogy about them that you’re using with the Pharisees and Sadducees. You see how ignorant you sound when you start saying things like that? You’re not arguing very well, by the way. And I’ll close with this. You’re not arguing very well because you’re not factually backing up what you believe in. You’re believing in some sort of a mantra or something that’s been put in your head, some sort of a conspiracy, something that you wish was going to be true or you wish is true. At the end of the day, it’s not, and you’re sorely mistaken. And you’re not grounded. Because believe me, if you were grounded, you would think about these things a lot differently than you do. So enough Sunday school for today. I’m going to move on to other topics. Please stop texting me about the Jews and or Israel, because we’re done with that topic. If I decide to bring it up tomorrow with Andy, we might. But for now, I’m done. So please, no more text messages. You’re not going to convince me that you’re right and I’m wrong. You’re also not going to be able to prove, scripturally speaking, that you’re right and I’m wrong. But best of luck to you. Have fun figuring that out if you can. And frankly, I encourage you to because you might do enough research to realize that I’m right and you’re wrong. I’ll leave it at that. Golden Eagle Financial coming up next. Roof Savers of Colorado, get dialed in today when it comes to your roof. You can extend the life, rejuvenate your current roof with the RoofMax Treatment 303-710-6916. Gil, what was your experience like working with RoofMax?
SPEAKER 07 :
Very good. With Dave Hart, we right away connected. You know, he was a very nice person to talk to, very accommodating. He even came over to my location when I asked him that I couldn’t go to him. He came to me and he walked the roof and he said, Gary, there’s just a couple of minor repairs needed. A few shingles needed to be replaced. And that was the start of our, you know, my conversation to go with him. I said, well, give me a bid and we’ll go from there.
SPEAKER 15 :
That’s great to hear. And how long did the process take from your first call to the final treatment?
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, it was an excellent experience. They were very accommodating with my time. Dave was very willing to meet my needs. and so gave me an idea of what it would take to repair it. It wasn’t very much, and so I think it was maybe he came over one day and then maybe two days afterwards and got it all done, all in one day. It was awesome.

Putting reason into your afternoon drive, this is John Rush. All right, shifting gears, heading into sports right now.
SPEAKER 14 :
Richard, welcome. How are you? I am well. How are you doing? Well, it’s Monday, and all the Jew haters are loose. But, hey, that’s for now tomorrow. I’m done with that.
SPEAKER 17 :
I was going to say, you move on to happier things. Yes. Like the Broncos having the best record in the NFL.
SPEAKER 14 :
Oh, my Lord. What a game yesterday, by the way.
SPEAKER 17 :
You know, Dad, I was telling you this earlier, and it’s almost, almost, I’m not quite there, it’s almost more satisfactory seeing Mahomes’ sad face as he walks off the field than it is winning.
SPEAKER 01 :
Almost.
SPEAKER 17 :
It’s still great to win, and it’s still better than losing. But, man, just seeing, and obviously some Kansas City fans are going to, you know, well, be mad, relish, whatever it might be. It’s a compliment, Dad, right? Because it’s like Brady, right? seeing Brady lose was great because he won so much and he wasn’t my guy winning right I’m sure people thought the same thing when Manning was here for those four years or even when Elway was here you know at times because the Broncos did do quite a bit of winning but we haven’t been doing a lot of winning over the past few years and especially we haven’t been beating the Chiefs I think up until I don’t know if it was last year Mahomes was I think 13 and 1 against the Broncos hmm And so it felt nice.
SPEAKER 14 :
It felt pretty good. Yeah, no, they have a strong showing against us, no doubt about it. And there was times yesterday it was like, oh, man, are we going back to that? Fortunately, fortunately, we were able to pull it out.
SPEAKER 17 :
Fortunately, Dad.
SPEAKER 14 :
And I will say, kudos to Peyton, the coaching staff, doing what they did at the end, making sure the clock ran down, handling everything literally by the book at the end to kick a field goal that won the game.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yep. And that it was, it was sort of, I mean, it wasn’t quite a picture perfect game. Cause honestly, dad, the, the offense could have done a bit more, right. They struggled, you know, they got that one, the one great punt return by men and you didn’t, we didn’t put it into the end zone. We ended up going three and out on that drive, which you should have done that. You had another pick six that really should have been a pick six, but kind of got bailed out. There was some legitimate calls on the pass interference, but then they got bailed out on that pick six by an illegal contact call. By the way, Dad, it just feels sometimes with the Chiefs. They just get these special—and I’m not saying that the officials are out for them. It just feels like they get the really timely penalty call.
SPEAKER 14 :
They do.
SPEAKER 17 :
In their favor.
SPEAKER 14 :
They do. They do. I mean, the other example was the receiver that they ruled down where really, I mean, it was questionable as to whether he was really down or not. Typically, you’d let that guy out of that tackle and let him go on, but they blew the whistle early. I mean, just things like that where it’s just like, are you going to give these guys every advantage you possibly can?
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, exactly, and like you said, you don’t want to, again, and I’m not saying that the league, I mean, I do think the league, I’ll just be honest, I think the league likes it more when the Chiefs are winning because they’re just big rating getters, right? And you can argue the Chiefs are now in the same category the Patriots were in many years ago, which is people tune in to hopefully watch the Patriots, you know, they did to watch the Patriots lose. Now they tune in to watch the Chiefs lose, right? Anytime you have sustained success, it happens most of the time, right? Very, very rarely does a team maintain that level of success and people really like them winning. Because as much as people say they love a winner, which they do, and don’t get me wrong, like Michael Jordan, but most people do, right? Because they’re not your team and you want your team to win. And if the team, the dynasty has been formed and has done that, you don’t want them to continue in. Cause if they continue to win, then that means your team’s likely to lose. And that’s what it’s been for the Broncos for the last, however many years. So I will, I’m with you there. It has been a really, it was an encouraging sign yesterday because you had all of that, you know, you kick five field goals, you do score a touchdown, certain things happen, but ultimately at the end of the day, dad, your team sort of came together in all facets at the right time, and that’s what people were looking for, right? Special teams and offense had been awful the previous week.
SPEAKER 14 :
They showed up yesterday. Even blocking an extra point, they showed up.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, and that was a big deal because that meant the pressure.
SPEAKER 14 :
That right there was a momentum changer, big time.
SPEAKER 17 :
Dad, it was momentum and it was math, right? Because last year, remember, it was Week 10, so this game was Week 11. Week 10, remember, we went to Kansas City last year. We were down by one point, and we went to go kick the field goal, and they blocked it. It was almost at the exact same yard line, Dad. Unbelievable. And so this year, it was different, though, because that kick, while it was big, and if we had missed it, I would have really been upset. It was to win because you were already tied. But the reason you were tied is because your dude gets in there and he makes a block. And that is a really big deal. Because the other thing is if the Broncos had been able to score a touchdown and kick the extra point, it would have put them up four points. instead of three which means it would have forced the chiefs to go down and score a touchdown or something they had only done i think whatever was doing one one time or i guess twice but but still like they had not had great sustained success driving on you and so it it really was it was sort of a performance by all of them and and i’m not saying the broncos are going to the super bowl dad because i still think that they got to play better they do need to learn how to finish some more drives and they got to clean up the penalties the only benefit you had yesterday is And maybe this is the Broncos formula. I guess you can commit a lot of penalties when the other team’s doing the same thing because the Chiefs committed a lot of penalties yesterday. And as a result, it benefited you. And again, while there were some timely calls for the Chiefs, the Broncos definitely benefited. Dad, actually, I’m going to say this. Can the officials keep their flags in the pocket sometimes?
SPEAKER 14 :
It’d be nice if they did. There’s times where it’s like, okay, wait a minute. You just called holding on a play that I guarantee you the play before was exactly the same, and yet you chose to throw it this time.
SPEAKER 17 :
And that’s my frustration.
SPEAKER 14 :
That’s the part that irritates me to no end.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, I’ll say it in both ways, Dad, right? In both cases, because even for the Broncos, I felt like that was the case. I felt like we benefited from some calls, and other times I’m like, I just want you to let the guys play. It doesn’t need to be a penalty. And don’t get me wrong, I was thankful, especially a couple of those last drives, the Chiefs got holding penalties and some things like that to push them back.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, really quick, I just got a text in that said that a lot of the Chiefs players and fans are blaming the refs for their loss. That’s about as lame as it gets, by the way.
SPEAKER 17 :
You know, Dad, I will say this, and Chiefs fans, that’s about as rich as it comes.
SPEAKER 14 :
Coming from a team that always gets great calls going your way.
SPEAKER 17 :
There’s not many more. And there’s been some studies. We talked about this in a lot of cases, Dad. And we’ve had conversations about it. And I just don’t think that, no offense, the argument doesn’t hold water. It just doesn’t. Because I just don’t think that there’s that much at stake. or there’s that much difference of calls going for or against the Chiefs as compared to, you know, against the Broncos. I thought it was pretty even. I thought the officials should have kept their flags in their pockets on both sides yesterday. And it’s something where I think the NFL is struggling with, and I have no doubt in the back of this stuff, it just feels like there’s more flags this year than there’s been in years past.
SPEAKER 14 :
It’s almost like these guys need to prove their worth.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, and honestly, to me, an official proving their worth is calling less penalties, but calling them in the right moments and calling it consistently, right? Because, and we’ve talked about this, you see calls at the beginning of the game, you know, pass interference holding, that doesn’t necessarily get called at the end of the game because they don’t want it to, you know, they don’t want it to impact the game. And what I would argue is, I think players are okay with either a lot of penalties being called or little penalties being called, but you can’t be selective of when you call them, right? You’ve got to be consistent. And I feel like sometimes they struggle with that. But outside of that, Dad, you know what? I’ll take it. So what does this mean?
SPEAKER 14 :
All in all, what’s this mean moving forward for us? I mean, I think everything I had read yesterday and even the few people that I talked to, this puts us way ahead in our division. The chances of us not going to the playoffs, I think, are pretty slim. Am I right?
SPEAKER 17 :
You know, you have a four-game lead over the Chiefs. The Broncos are at 9-11. You’ve got a four-game lead with six games remaining. So do the math. But basically, if the Broncos – nothing else has to happen. If you go 500, right, so you go 3-3 over the remaining six games that the Broncos have, and you have basically – well, then there’s nothing the Chiefs can do, right, because you’ll finish with a better record than them no matter what. Now, you have the Chargers close by. So what this basically does is you have probably a 75% to 80% chance of winning the division, right? Which puts you in line for a home playoff game. And depending on if you keep winning, you could have the top seed in the AFC. But that’ll be a conversation for a few weeks from now. But the thing it really does, as you said, Beth, is you’re almost a shoe-in to be in the playoffs. And the reason I say that is because generally in the AFC, I think last year the Broncos got in the playoffs with a 9-7 record. Or no, sorry, a 9-8 record. Or maybe it was Tennessee. I think it was nine wins. And so that’s kind of where you have to be. Well, you’re at nine wins now. So if you win two of your remaining six games, right, you go less than 500, you’re at 11 wins. That’s pretty much a shoo-in because the teams that are chasing you, there’s just too many of them that have too many losses.
SPEAKER 14 :
So can we beat the Chiefs on the road is the other question.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, you’re going to find out on Christmas night.
SPEAKER 14 :
That’s a terrible night to play, by the way. I hate that.
SPEAKER 17 :
But here’s the deal, Dad. Because you took care of business at home, you have three more division games remaining against each one of your opponents, right? A few weeks from now, you play the Raiders, which they are just terrible. It’s a way, but you should still beat them. And then you obviously play the Chiefs on Christmas night. But if you beat the Raiders, you can lose to the Chiefs, and then you have the Chargers here at home to finish off the year. And based on the Chargers and their luck right now, there’s nothing – I don’t know. There’s nothing – basically, there’s no guarantee that the Chargers continue their pace. They could very well lose. I mean, they got smacked yesterday by the Jaguars. And so you really – by winning yesterday, Dad, you just set yourself up for a really great path to finish off the season because you have a buy this next week coming out of that you play the commanders who are really struggling they’re down there starting quarterback those sorts of things you then have the raiders after that um and then like i think there’s there’s one more there i think you have the jags at some point that’s right all winnable games right and then you have the cheat or then you have I think one other game I’m forgetting against, but you’ve got some winnable games here that you just have to kind of finish the season off. And as long as you do that and you win the games you’re supposed to, you put yourself in a position where you don’t have to go into Arrowhead on a short week, on Christmas night. I don’t want to say you can throw that game away. But you could. But let’s just say if you take care of business your next couple of weeks, you get to 11 wins. It really doesn’t matter what happens the rest of the day. Now, Sean Payton and the Broncos are going to say, you know, we need to keep winning, we need to keep doing this. Mind you, Dad, one other big thing, and then we’ve got to run here in a second. You did that yesterday. You just found out you’re starting running back. Is it going to be out for most of the year? Your best player on your team in Pat Sertan was not playing in that game. And then you had one of your starting linebackers, Alex Singleton, who’s recovering from cancer surgery. He did not play there. You should be getting guys back. So you beat the Chiefs with not a 100% team. Gotcha.
SPEAKER 13 :
Without a full spot. Exactly.
SPEAKER 17 :
That should give you confidence moving forward. So it’s exciting. And then, obviously, kind of to finish that, you’ve got the abs and nuggets that are just killing it. They’re doing what they’re supposed to be doing. It’s really a great time. And we won’t talk about the Rockies, but it’s a great time to be a Denver sports fan because right now all of your teams in the major sports, for the most part, are winning, and they’re actually arguably, Dad, the best in their respective sports right now in the entire league.

SPEAKER 14 :
And we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. The time of the week where we do a new car review. And we’ve got one that we’ll play. Of course, we’ll go through today. We’ll replay this again on Saturday during Drive Radio. But Richard, you have driven or you are driving at the moment. Is it a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser?
SPEAKER 17 :
It is a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser. And we’ve reviewed the Land Cruiser in the past. I believe it was last model year, maybe even 25, Dad. But it is not… I just want to make sure I distinct this. It is not the Land Cruiser from yesteryears, right? It is not the… You know, the luxury SUV that it was, right? You know, had a third row potentially, depending on how you outfitted it. It was kind of like a one trim. They got rid of that, I think it was about three or four years ago, if I’m not mistaken. This is kind of their new one that was introduced in 2024, Dad. No major changes for 2025. They’ve put the I-Force Max. hybrid engine in it and it is now a five passenger only vehicle with you know kind of some rugged features on it with some really nice on-road comfortability that they’ve added to it versus some of the competitors so yes there’s this is a really popular segment right to add this kind of off-roading suv segment that you can get in and go anywhere right as soon as you get in this car you can go anywhere you can kind of put the kids in it do whatever you want to do with it and the land cruiser just does just that It’s refined. The hybrid engine, especially at our altitude, does fantastic. Fuel economy, Dad, you’re rated for 22 and 25 for an average of 23. And as we know, that old V8 that was in the old model, that thing worked well, but it got terrible fuel economy. That was awful. Now, this one gets better fuel economy. has better performance in my case because of the turbo charge we talked about this at our altitude it’s really great this vehicle i mean it’s got heated and ventilated seats dual zone climate control it’s got a nice infotainment system it’s got you know digital display for the driver it’s got all different drive modes you’ve got some electronic locking differentials and some things like that so really this car is meant if you wanted to take this thing and go off-road dad you have the capability of doing that they have got the price wise real quick this one as it sits here dad is that this is the four wheel drive wagon hybrid and i don’t think they have a ton of different differentiating um models on here it’s 70 164 i think the base price of these vehicles dad as it sits is about 63 000 outside of that this is something where i think i think if folks are interested in that segment of vehicles and I’ll just say it, right? They had the Ford Broncos, the Jeep Wranglers of the world. I think this is a very comparable option for those, price point, because I’ll be honest, you may not get the 100% off-road performance that those vehicles offer, Dad, right out of the gate, although you get pretty close, in my opinion, but the on-road comfortability, this car, you can see out of it well it drives smoothly it’s quiet on the inside and some of the other competitors you just can’t say that about and so this is a really been a really nice change of pace they’ve changed the look of this vehicle again folks if you’re thinking of the land cruiser from yesteryear it’s a it’s different so i’d encourage you to go get out and look at them and dad you i think you and i were kind of talking earlier you saw one of these i think whether you saw one of your outings this weekend and it’s really kind of an attractive looking car it’s different but attractive
SPEAKER 14 :
It is, and again, to your point, it’s not the Land Cruiser you’re used to. It’s a different look and feel from what you’ve seen. It’s got more of the GX look to it, I guess you could say. I personally like it. Now, I like the old Land Cruiser, and there’s a lot of old Land Cruisers that, by the way, are still running around and will be running around for quite some time because of how robust they are. they actually were. Now, that’s the one thing about this vehicle I am not sure of because I haven’t worked on one or been underneath one. It’ll be interesting to see longevity-wise, does it match what they used to do?
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, and that’s – I don’t know, Dad, especially with the hybrid powertrain that is in this car or in this SUV. I’m not sure, and I’m not sure if you’ve got – I’ll just say I don’t know if you’ve got any indication, right, because this is a relatively new engine for them. Correct, correct. You know, especially to this level. And so I’ll be curious what they say, but one thing we know with Toyota, right, is they do test these things, and they’re not saying they don’t have problems like everyone else does. But I would feel pretty confident getting in this vehicle. And, again, taking this off-road, doing the things that you want to do. The rear seat is a little bit cramped. I’ll say that, again, which is sort of common in this class of SUV, Dad. It’s not the biggest one. I can fit booster seats in it. I can’t fit a full-size booster. And for those parents out there, you know what I’m talking about. It does have good cargo room in the back. I like the color options available. I love the looks of it. What’s that?
SPEAKER 13 :
I love the looks of it.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, well, and that’s the thing, is it gets a lot of looks at it, and it really is, I’ll just say it, it’s an attractive-looking vehicle. It’s aggressive enough, but not so aggressive that you think that it’s over the top, right? Yeah. And that’s one thing that, kudos from me to Toyota, because I really like that. I’ve gotten several compliments on it. Honestly, Dad, this car reminds me of the old, and I don’t think it, maybe I’m speaking, you know, I’m not supposed to be saying this, reminds me of the old FJ. It’s definitely a closer… Yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
And I’ll say this because they compete with one another. It’s more like, and I believe they’re competing on the level of a Land Rover Defender right now. That’s really very, very similar. And I’ll say this straight up, and I know everybody listens, Toyota included. If you had a choice between this and a Land Rover, buy a Land Cruiser because at the end of the day, your money is going to be better spent.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, yeah, exactly. And you’re going to save some money.
SPEAKER 14 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 17 :
Because when you compare this to a Land Rover. Now, granted, you’re going to get some other creature comforts and stuff. But, again, folks, you get a lot of on-road comfort in this vehicle that I don’t know if you get in some of the competitors. And I’ll just be flat out with it. They’ve done a good job at sort of melding the off-road capability with the on-road comfort. And there’s something to be said about that. So, if you want to learn more about this vehicle, Dad, head to your local Toyota dealer. Test drive it. Get your family in it. Get your friends in it. And when you do that, let them know that John and Richard Rush from Drive Radio and Rush for Reason sent you.
SPEAKER 14 :
All right, and I’ll just throw this in. This isn’t a part of the review, but I’ll just throw this in anyways because, as I said a moment ago, the Land Rover sides of things versus the Land Cruiser sides of things. Yeah, and I’m sorry. I know there’s probably some guys listening that drive Land Rovers. And how else do I say this, Richard? One of the most uneconomical vehicles to ever own. The depreciation is huge. The maintenance costs are huge. The repair costs, if you’re out of warranty, are huge. There is nothing out there, personally, nothing out there that says I should own one because of everything I just said. I’m sorry, but that’s just my opinion of Land Rover.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, I’ll say two things. If you want to get a Land Rover, a lot of it is a status thing, right?
SPEAKER 14 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 17 :
You got a Land Rover and people know the cost. But there’s a saying in Africa, right? And you’ve said this before. If you want to go on safari, you take a Land Rover. If you want to come back from safari, you take a Land Cruiser.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 17 :
And I don’t want to say that it still maintains that, but I’m going to say… Probably is. You and I, if we were going to do something for, you know, go off-road and not… And again, has nothing to do with testing, folks. This is just our opinions. If I was going to own a vehicle long-term, it would more be a Land Cruiser. Even this newer style, right, that which does… more accurately kind of compete with the defenders and some things like that, I would definitely do a cruiser over a rover.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yep, absolutely. All right, I’ll leave it at that. Good review. Appreciate you.
SPEAKER 1 :
See you.

Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 14 :
All right, wrapping up hour number two. Got another full hour coming your way. Chris Hoare is going to join us here at the top of the hour. We’re going to talk about AI and how the U.S., how Americans can protect themselves when we’re really at an AI war with China. And we’ll get into some details there. And you guys, I’ve talked enough about AI and my thought process on things, and it’s not something that I feel like we need to just – you know, totally abolish and stay away from. In fact, I’m the opposite. I really feel like it’s something that we should embrace and we should be a part of and do what’s necessary to control it in a way that benefits us all. And we can’t just bury our heads in the sand and have that outcome. So we’ll talk more about that here in the next hour. Don’t go anywhere, though. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 1 :
Thank you.
SPEAKER 02 :
I’m a rich guy.
