Hour 1 of Rush To Reason opens with estate-planning attorney Michael Bailey (https://michaelbaileylawllc.com), who reminds listeners that the end of the year is the perfect time to protect what matters most. What really happens if you leave your estate to Colorado’s default rules? And how simple is it to update an old will—especially when life, kids, and families change? Michael breaks down the misconceptions and reveals why planning spares your loved ones from confusion and conflict. Next, lifestyle and food creator Shanisty Ireland (https://shesbecomingdomestic.com)brings much-needed calm to the chaos of the holiday season. Can one signature dish, a five-minute
SPEAKER 03 :
This is Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 14 :
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes.
SPEAKER 03 :
With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 12 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did! Get a job, Turk! You haven’t made everybody equal.
SPEAKER 14 :
You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 10 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 14 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 13 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. Presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 07 :
I am Hans. And I am Franz. And we just want to pop your loss.
SPEAKER 03 :
Welcome to Health and Wellness Wednesdays on Rush to Reason. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, sir.
SPEAKER 15 :
I have what doctors call a little bit of a weight problem. I used to grab bear claws as a kid, two at a time, and I’d get them lodged right in this region here.
SPEAKER 14 :
Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands.
SPEAKER 01 :
Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
SPEAKER 13 :
I’m sorry that I’m fat.
SPEAKER 05 :
And welcome, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560 Health and Wellness Wednesday Edition. Michael Bailey joining me now. Michael, how are you? Merry Christmas. I’m good. Merry Christmas to you, John. I just saw you a moment ago. Michael had to hop in the car real quick for an appointment. He’s on his own program from 2.30 to 3 right here on KLZ. But, Michael, as we wind down the year and we head down the stretch to Christmas and New Year’s, and last time you and I talked, we head down that kind of New Year’s resolution and getting things planned for 2026. What should people be looking at as we finish out the year?
SPEAKER 06 :
Really, just if you don’t have your estate plan done, Let’s get it going. You know, there’s no time like the present to be able to get started on things. And, you know, you’re getting to the end of 2025. You’re like, oh, no, I didn’t do my estate plan. I meant to do it this year. Okay, well, you know, we didn’t get it done in 2025. Let’s do 2025. There’s next year.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s right. Yeah. And point being, you know, we’re at that time of the year where, like we said last time you were on, people start thinking about that. Hey, what am I going to do for next year? Different goals and so on. And, folks, trust me when I say this. One of your biggest goals should be either, A, having one, period, which some don’t even have, Michael, or how old is the one that you have? In other words, how applicable to what you have in your life right now is the current one you have, and does it need updated?
SPEAKER 06 :
Sure. I have lots of clients who will call me like, oh, you know, we had one 20 years ago and now our kids are adults. And I’m like, yeah, so we’re a little bit less concerned about who’s raising the kids and what happens to them. Or maybe you have grandkids that you’re concerned about, you know, all those types of things. Right. Those are the, you know, nobody wants to be like, oh, hey, we had a whole bunch of grandkids and then. we completely forgot about them, didn’t do anything like most people like and or love their grandkids, so they don’t want to have that problem.
SPEAKER 05 :
Walk us through for folks listening, because I know there’s a lot of misconceptions on this. If something happens and you don’t have this in order, and there are next of kin that maybe you didn’t want to have something, but because you didn’t have things planned out, how do things work when it comes to your estate and the lack of planning?
SPEAKER 06 :
So there’s a whole slew of statutes and rules that say, here’s what happens in the default. So we start with the most simple situation. Okay, it’s you, a spouse, and all of the kids are the same kids from the spouse. Okay, cool. Well, everything’s going to go to the spouse, and if not to the spouse, then to those kids. Great. But what if your life isn’t quite that simple? What if you were married and you have a spouse and a spouse and kids from, you know, and each of you, each of the spouses had kids from a previous marriage or a previous relationship. And now you go, okay, well, not everything is all in one family. So the first 375,000 goes to a spouse and then, you know, split it up between the spouse and the remaining kids. And then, you know, what if you weren’t married and, or what if you, you’re the second spouse to die and you didn’t do anything and you look down and all the kids are gone. So now we’re going to go, look up to parents and out to siblings and nieces and nephews and all that kind of stuff. And then it can get very complicated of who gets what and certain amounts of percentages. And when you print out all those statutes, it’s about 90 pages long, so you get to comb through all the 90 pages to try to figure out what in the heck the state legislature wants you to do. Or you’d be like, hey, let’s sit down and talk about who we want to get what. We’ll put it down in writing, and then it’ll be done.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, and the way you do it, for all of you listening, it’s really simplistic. Michael will ask you, you know, there’s an intake form, series of questions you start thinking through. And I would advise to even start thinking through some of this on the front side. In fact, if some of you want to write some of this out before even meeting with Michael, you know, feel free. Not a bad thing to do. Kind of start deciding who do you want to go where. Michael will advise you on whether or not those are, you know, legitimate things that you can actually do. Michael, one question I’ve got is let’s say folks have things done. Maybe they’ve even had things done recently by you, but there’s maybe – a slight change they’d like to make maybe there’s a different percentage they’d like to have do they need to go back to you to get all of that changed or can they like take an addendum and just you know write that in and sign it and is that good enough or how does that work so it depends on the document uh wills and trusts have their own rules of how to amend them okay and so they need to be amended according to the proper rules i know if you can find the if you figure out the proper rules you can do it yourself
SPEAKER 06 :
What you don’t want to do is cross something off and initial it and put something off to the side. That doesn’t work. But most of the time, if you’re trying to amend something, you want to have it signed, witnessed, notarized the same way as the original will or trust was. But of course, that can be different because every once in a while, they’ll change the rules and be like, oh, if you have three witnesses, then you’re good. The current rule is you want to have everything be notarized, and then you can have witnesses. But they switch around from time to time, depending on who feels like it’s important. So, I mean, if they want to come back to me, I’m happy to help out with that. And that’s, I mean, changing or amending things can be a lot less involved in the process than getting it initially set up. So if you set up a will and you’re like, oh, I’m going to give 20% to each of my nieces and nephews since I have five, you’re like, cool. And then you have another one that gets born, and you’re like, oh, I need to split it up six ways.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right, right. Yeah, thank you. That was really more along the lines of what I was thinking is, you know, family members may come, they may go, by the way. Some might actually pass away. Some may, you know, in some cases your kids might end up in a situation where because of their own, actually I say this, Michael, maybe they’ve done really well financially, and in that case maybe they don’t need as much as what you might feel somebody else needs. And that can change, by the way, throughout. The period of that particular estate plan. Bottom line is, you know, people can make changes. I think at times, Michael, people think, oh, you know, it’s that way. I can’t do anything with it. Well, no, that’s what you’re there for. You can make changes. Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
And, you know, it’s something as simple as you had five nieces and nephews. Now you have six. Like, well, you only need to change that one little section because you got everything else all set up. So we go and we do an amendment that, you know, takes 15, 20 minutes, maybe half an hour to do. We’re like, cool. Then I charge them.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yep, and you would charge accordingly for that particular, yeah, for that amount, you would go and charge accordingly. Point being, for all of you listening, is A, get this done. I’m living proof that it helps your life out and those that you leave behind immensely by having these things done on the front side. And, you know, I don’t think, Michael, most folks really understand the depths of all of this and how easy this makes things when it’s done correctly and how difficult it is when it’s not.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, it’s one of those things that you can’t know until you go through it. Mm-hmm. So you take advantage of the experience that I have of making things easy on people. And then you go through, you’re like, well, hey, you know, that was easy. Or you go through, you’re like, well, you know, it still took time. It was difficult, but, you know, it was doable. Or you can go through with absolutely nothing in place and you go, this is horrible.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
What were we thinking? Right.
SPEAKER 05 :
Great point. Great point. All right. Best way to get a hold of you.

Listen online. KLZradio.com. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, we are back. Health and Wellness Wednesday. Thanks for joining us. Shanice Ireland joining us now. Welcome back, Shanice. How are you?
SPEAKER 09 :
I’m doing great, John. Thanks for having me on.
SPEAKER 05 :
Always a joy having you. And my wife wanted to make sure I told you that she’s hooked on all of your videos and follows you routinely. So she wanted to make sure I passed that along.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh. I feel so honored. Tell her I said thank you. I really appreciate that.
SPEAKER 05 :
I will tell her that, definitely, and she’s probably listening, so she’s already hearing that. But for those of you that are listening, you should actually follow Shanisty. It’s a lot of fun, and I see a lot of the videos as well because my wife will say, did you see that last one? So she’ll send it, and I’ll get to watch it that way. So she follows that pretty closely, so it’s a lot of fun. Shanisty is a food and lifestyle influencer, but you do a lot of other things as well, and it’s just fun.
SPEAKER 09 :
It is, and I love this time of year. It’s so stressful. It’s so chaotic, but it is also so much fun. And I tell you what, if we blink, we’re going to wake up. It’s going to be January. Christmas is going to be over. All the gifts are going to be torn apart. And it’s just taking a moment, stopping, and trying to enjoy it because I can’t believe we’re only, what, 15 days away from the big day? That’s it.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s it.
SPEAKER 09 :
And it’ll be over. It’ll be over so fast. So now is the time to really soak in as much as you possibly can.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, for a lot of people, and I think, and this is not to be derogatory by any means, Shanice, but I think the female half of relationships typically sees a lot more stress. Not that some male counterparts don’t, but typically it’s the wife, mom, and so on that really feels the pressure of this time of the year to the point where sometimes I think that side doesn’t even like relationships. Because to your point a moment ago, they don’t really have that ability to stop and really enjoy and understand everything. I mean, they understand it, but they don’t have time to really sit back and enjoy what’s going on. So give us some tips on how we make all of this and especially the entertaining sides of things a little easier for them.
SPEAKER 09 :
yeah i think one of the things is to just pick one signature item and what i mean by that is be it a signature cocktail a signature snack board signature dessert something that you’re going to make from scratch that’s yours it’s your own everything else john you can outsource you can buy some store-bought You know, eye crusts. Nobody is going to know the difference if it’s frozen or if it’s homemade. And no one’s going to judge.
SPEAKER 05 :
No one cares.
SPEAKER 09 :
No one’s going to look at you. No one’s going to look at you and be like, Shanice, this wasn’t homemade.
SPEAKER 05 :
And I want to stop for a moment there, Shanice, really quick. I hate to interrupt, but I want to stop for especially for you lady folks that are out there. Here’s the reality. No one cares. And if they do, shame on them.
SPEAKER 09 :
Agreed. Agreed. Because you’re opening up your home. You are entertaining. You know, nobody is going to look for the dust on top of the fireplace. You know, nobody is going to search your house. You may feel like your house is messy, but I promise you, you know, it really isn’t. You know, I call it a five-minute fake clean. As long as the countertop is cleared off, you know, the guest bathroom is clean, that’s all you need to do. So my point of that is just do the bare minimum this time of year because if you don’t, everything else will be, the joy will be sucked away from you. You’ll, you’ll miss out on all of the fun because you want that mess, you know, that closet, that, that task is going to be there in January. So try to stop and, and, and just really enjoy the moment and outsource some of the stuff to John. It’s okay to ask your guests to bring a side dish. Or let the kids come up with a menu on the item. Or, you know, have your husband or your significant other go out and get the dinner rolls. You know, whatever it may be. So outsource some of that stuff, too, so it doesn’t all fall off.
SPEAKER 05 :
And we’ve got some items, and you and I talk about some of these things pretty regularly, whether it be, you know, Southern Recipe, Small Batch, or, you know, Bakehouse Bread Company. Reality is these are great companies, Shanna, Steve, that can do some prepared, quote-unquote, you know, some pre-prepared foods, I guess I should say, things that are done in advance that, by the way, are still very tasty. And frankly, you get them out of the package. You get them laid out on whatever it is you’re going to present, and you probably have some tips on how to do that. But at the end of the day, the average person is, isn’t going to know what you did. And again, I go back to the statement a moment ago, nor do they care.
SPEAKER 09 :
Absolutely. And I’m so glad you brought up the Bakehouse Bread Company. I know I’ve talked about this brand before on your show, but they use clean ingredients. They’re baked from scratch. So, John, this tastes like it just came straight out of your oven. They actually are America’s number one selling zucchini bread right now. They have a delicious pancake flavor of all things. They have cranberry, gingerbread, cinnamon swirl, all these different flavors. Nobody will know. Nobody will care. You pair that on a snack board with some of your, you know, maybe you have some homemade fudge. Maybe you have some homemade cookies. Maybe you don’t. Nobody’s going to know the difference. And I also like to have backup plans. And what I mean by that is, like, if you’re going to be making homemade cookies, this is what happened to me before, John. You know what? They have burned. You have to have a backup plan. So maybe that’s just some, you know, frozen dough in the freezer or fridge, or maybe it’s just box dough or whatever it is. You’ve got to have some kind of backup plan as well. So go with some of the store-bought stuff. And like you said, nobody’s going to care. Everybody’s going to be excited about the holiday, excited about the presents, excited about getting together. So none of that stuff really matters.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, and I think you bring up a great point. I think sometimes the hosts, especially female hosts – some men, I think, can do this as well, Shanice, but typically it’s the – again, it’s the female counterpart that really takes a lot of this to heart. Everything has to be just right, just perfect. The table has to be set just right and all these things. And by the way, I’m not trying to take any of that away from anybody, but – To your point, don’t lose sight of why we’re doing this and the fact that people really are there because they want to be there. They want to gather around. They want to have fellowship and fun and the community that is involved with all of this, whether it’s your friends or family or whatever. Again, they’re there so they can fellowship with one another. The icing on the cake is all of the food and everything else. They’re really there to be with one another.
SPEAKER 09 :
Let me just say this. It actually stresses. I think it makes guests a little stressed out if they see a host in the kitchen working, you know, because they’re always like, what can I do to help? What can I do? Good point. It’s an uncomfortable thing. And I know sometimes my mom and I, you know, we do Thanksgiving together. We run into this and sometimes they can’t be avoided. But sometimes it’s like, oh, no, we’re fine when really the house is burning down. So try to have some of that stuff done ahead of time as much as possible.
SPEAKER 04 :
Great point.
SPEAKER 09 :
Prep ahead of time. That way you are not in the kitchen. You are enjoying things. And another thing I will say, John, is never apologize for anything.
SPEAKER 04 :
Good point.
SPEAKER 09 :
Never apologize to your guests like, I’m so sorry my house is a mess or I’m so sorry this advertiser, I bought it at the store. Never apologize for anything because everyone’s just happy to be there.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, you know, that kind of transfers back into what I do here. I was taught long ago in the radio world that things happen. Things happen that people don’t see, Shanice. We can have little glitches. We can have computer problems. We can have a guest that maybe doesn’t show that was supposed to or one that’s earlier shows up on a day that you didn’t think they were going to be here and so on. And what I’ve learned through the years is, to your point, Never apologize for those things. Don’t even highlight them. Just roll along like nothing ever happened. And the reality is nothing ever happened unless you said so.
SPEAKER 09 :
And honestly, they probably wouldn’t even know.
SPEAKER 05 :
Nope.
SPEAKER 09 :
Half the time, especially in the media world, you know, and the TV and news world, it feels like a huge mistake for us. You know, the average viewer or listener has no idea. So the same thing goes for your guests. They would have no idea that you actually plan to make your great grandmother’s homemade pie, and you had to go run out to the local grocery store and pick one up at the last minute.
SPEAKER 05 :
They don’t know. And to your point earlier, even about how the house looks, they don’t know that there’s dust on the mantel unless you highlight, oh, you don’t mind all my dust and all the stuff. Okay, now they’re looking for those things. If you never mentioned it, they’re not looking at all in the first place.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, and another really quick tip on, you know, if you’re really stressed about the house looking messy or dirty, hey, lower the lights a little bit. Give it some ambiance.
SPEAKER 04 :
True.
SPEAKER 09 :
Set the mood.
SPEAKER 05 :
True.
SPEAKER 09 :
You know, maybe light some candles. That’s going to solve 97% of your problems.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s exactly right.
SPEAKER 09 :
If you just kind of, you know, you have the Christmas tree lit, you have a fireplace going, you know, all of those things. People want just a cozy feel for Christmas. They want to have some Christmas, you know, holiday music playing lightly in the background. The scents, the smells, the delicious food.
SPEAKER 05 :
Good point.
SPEAKER 09 :
And just as you mentioned, the fellowship as well.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah. And, you know, you make a great point on even, you know, lighting and different things along those lines and so on. And my point is, listen, at the end of the day, the average person, I get it. There’s always that, you know, maybe one person in the family that nitpicks everything. You know, ignore them. Move on. Don’t worry about everything. You know, don’t let that one person and sometimes it could be a very close relative. And I hate to say this. Sometimes it can be a parent that is very critical, Shanna. And what I would tell everybody out there listening is, you know what? Do your best to ignore, to move on, you know, to chalk it up to experience. But most of all, you have fun. And the rest of the guests, to your point earlier, if you’re the host, if you’re having fun, everyone else will as well.
SPEAKER 09 :
100%. If you put a smile on your face, if you pour yourself something festive, sit down, enjoy everybody. They are going to loosen up, lighten up, and there’s no stress or tension. So they’re going to have a great time if you’re having a great time. That’s a great point.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, really quick. Talk to us about Southern Recipe. That’s another great company. I’ve actually interviewed the owner of many times in the past. We’ll have some recipes, by the way, that we can put up there for you guys to follow along with as well. But there’s all sorts of things that you can do with Southern Recipe small batch pork rinds. And the reality is it’s kind of endless, Shanice, and what you can do with those.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, they’re high-protein, low-carb pork rind. They’re kind of a snack packed with a really big, bold flavor. They have a bunch of different flavors. And what you can do with these is you can have them on the side of a dip. I love having dips around the holidays because those are really easy to make ahead of time. You can have it for a perfect sweet and savory mix. You can even make puppy chow out of it, believe it or not. I actually have a recipe for that. And you just kind of add it in with the chocolate chips and the peanut butter. And I would just go with the cracked black pepper flavor. I wouldn’t go with the hot honey flavor for that recipe. But you can do something with the, you can put some melted chocolate on top of it, make it like a sweet and savory mix. So there’s just a variety of things to do with it. And what I love about the pork rind is, as I mentioned, it is low carb, keto friendly. It’s high protein, so it is a little bit on the healthier side if you’re looking for a snack around the holidays. Holidays are about indulgences, I know that, but sometimes it’s nice to have something a little bit on the healthier side too.
SPEAKER 05 :
Absolutely, and especially when you look at some of the quote-unquote pregame end of things, Shanice, in other words, there’s sometimes you’ll have earlier guests or kids or whatever, and there’s things that you need to do on the front side because of what I just said. Maybe some folks even come to help out purposely. Great. Pregame a little bit and have some of those things out for them.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, for sure. Have some of those dips out there. You know, cranberry jalapeno cheddar dip, really seasonal and flavorful and wonderful. I made this this week. It’s really delicious. Even a buffalo chicken dip, you know, a brie with some melted brown sugar and honey on top of it. I made that for Thanksgiving. It was delicious. have some pork rinds on the side. It’s just a really easy thing to set out for your guests ahead of time. You don’t want to go too heavy on the appetizers because you want people to eat the main dish, but it is nice to have something out, especially if people are going to be arriving early to have some cocktails and enjoy each other.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, Shanice, as always, it’s always a joy having you. I was hoping we’d talk before Christmas, which we have, and just want to wish you and your whole family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and thank you for all you’ve done for us in 2025, and I’m sure we will talk more in 2026. My pleasure.
SPEAKER 09 :
Merry Christmas to you. Merry Christmas to your wife. Tell her thank you again, and we will talk again in 2026.
SPEAKER 05 :
We’ll do it. Shanice, thank you again, and have a great evening.
SPEAKER 09 :
You too. Bye-bye.
SPEAKER 05 :

This isn’t Rage Radio. This is real, relatable radio. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 05 :
And we are back, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. And really quick, just going back to that last topic with Shanna, make Christmas fun. For those of you that are hosting or doing whatever, please just make it fun and enjoyable because that’s what people remember down the road. Troy Duhl joining us now. Troy, welcome. How are you? Welcome back, I should say. Good, John. How are you doing? I’m doing great. Always a joy having you. Merry Christmas to you and all of yours. And I want to make sure I get that in before we do anything else today because we’re at that time of the year.
SPEAKER 07 :
It is hard to believe that we’re already at Christmas for sure, but I hope you guys are having a good Christmas out there as well and getting ready.
SPEAKER 05 :
So far, so good. Health educator, founder of Centurion Health. Talk to us about, because it is that time of the year, it’s Christmas and all that, but Troy, it’s also the time of the year where, and we’ve seen it, we’ve experienced some of this even ourselves, you know, there’s more illness and things that run around this time of the year, you know, People get a little bit more worn down. The temperatures change. The flu season starts in. Walk us through, number one, how to stay healthy. And then if we do end up getting ill, how do we overcome that quicker?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I mean, the holiday season is certainly the perfect storm about getting sick anyway because you get out of your normal routine. You’re eating typically worse than you normally eat. You’re not exercising as much. You’re traveling. You’re not sleeping as well because you may be on the road. You may be at family and staying overnight somewhere else. So you’ve got a lot of things that are coming into play, but there are certainly some basics that we have to do. If you can get in the habit… of making sure that you’re not overdoing it on the alcohol and the sugar when you go to corporate parties or to family parties. That’s going to set you up for a much better result if you come in contact with any viral infection that’s out there. The other thing, simple, but something that we typically forget to do is be sure to wash your hands. If you wash your hands, that is the number one thing you can do to really overcome any viral infection that’s out there. And then from a diet standpoint, make sure that you’re eating the right thing. So start with good proteins. Start with some good fruits and vegetables. and limit the sweets until after you’ve had the good thing so your body has something to use to help counteract those things that we come in contact with.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, so in other words, let’s eat healthy. Let’s make sure we’re watching the, which happens this time of the year, some of those nastier things. And again, you know, we’re not, you know, we don’t want to be the NFL, the no fun league, Troy. We want to make sure people have fun and enjoy the holidays within reason. But it is that time of the year to where it’s easy to, I guess you could say, Troy, overindulge. In other words, there’s a party tonight. There’s another party tomorrow night. Well, I’ve got to go to the friend’s house this weekend. And, you know, you get the drift. Eventually, before you know it, you’ve done six or seven events and it’s like, Like, yeah, in every one of those, you weren’t as probably as tidy with your eating as you should have been.
SPEAKER 07 :
Absolutely. And I like to try to set up a disciplined way to go through this season. So if I know that I’ve got several parties coming up or several events, there may be one of those. If I’m going to grandma’s house or your mom’s house and you know there is some special item that you really want, then save it throughout the week and don’t indulge in those things through the week and save it for the weekend whenever you’re at that special place. And really try to do that on a regular basis. Very hard to do because everybody’s bringing out what seems like the best thing that any of us have ever tried or had, or they all want you to try it, something new, but try to be very disciplined along those lines and know that if you’re going to be eating bad when you go to mom’s house, then be sure that you try to be as healthy as you can during the week. And, you know, if you have a bad day, then just start fresh the next day. Don’t beat yourself up over it, but just know that you got a new day and get after it.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, supplements. This is something where you guys are very strong, and of course, it’s exactly what you do, Centurion Health. And at the end of the day, what sorts of things should we be preemptively taking, making sure that we’re getting the right amount of vitamins in, and then also walk us through, if you start to feel maybe just a little bit And you know what I mean by that. I mean, for most of us, you kind of know if you’re coming down with something or not. And typically this time of the year, unless you get into a bunch of mold or dust or something, you know, it’s not going to be allergies. So reality is we typically kind of know, hey, something’s coming on. So walk us through, A, what we should be doing on a routine basis. And then B, if we do kind of find ourself getting sick, what do we do?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I think the first thing to do during this season especially is take some products and ingredients that we know really help benefit the immune system the most. And some of those, I’ll just list off five of them real quick. So start with quercetin. That’s probably the most essential ingredient that I would say this time of year to take in for your immune health. It comes from fruits. That whole apple a day keeps the doctor away. That’s where a lot of this comes from. The difference is you’d have to take and eat 25 apples in order to get the amount of quercetin your body really needs to help fight off an infection. So quercetin is key. Then vitamin D, I would say, is essential. super important. You want to be getting about 2,000 IUs or 50 micrograms per day. So anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 or 50 to 100 micrograms per day. And then you want to get some zinc because that is probably one of the body’s or nature’s best way of getting inside the cells of our bodies and taking on any viral infection. Zinc has been known in studies to go in and just gobble up any virus that’s in your body. And then you want to be sure that, like we’ve all known all of our lives, vitamin C, and there’s a reason that vitamin C is there because it seems to do a really, really good job at keeping your immune system up and defending your body against any viral infection. And vitamin C seems to work well with quercetin and zinc. And then if you’re taking zinc, just be sure that you’re taking some copper because zinc depletes your copper levels, which can then cause other issues that none of us want to have.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. So these are things we should be taking on a routine basis. And, again, these are things, folks, you know, we talk about these things pretty routinely. And, you know, I’m a big advocate of doing these things preemptively, Troy. A, because it’s really hard to eat correctly on a daily basis. I don’t care how disciplined you are. Just the food supply alone that we have in some cases makes that more and more difficult. Our lifestyle makes it more and more difficult, as you know, Troy. And, again, I know some folks that are extremely disciplined and probably do a really good job of this, but they’re the one percenters, Troy. The rest of us need some additional help.
SPEAKER 07 :
That is very, very true. We are subjected to all kinds of things this time of year, and it’s not an easy thing at all. But just coming up with a plan, being consistent and disciplined in that plan from the standpoint of making sure that you’re taking these supplements on a regular basis, making sure you have a plan for the party season. Really doing your best to not looking past that exercise routine you may have to get up Continue your exercise routine even if you’re tired or on the road and then I would say the only other thing to really add into that equation is is be sure that you’re drinking plenty of water, staying well hydrated, because that’s a great way to allow your body to flush those toxins and other things out.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. What do you feel, because there’s always these myths and or misconceptions out there when it comes to either, A, staying healthy, or, gosh, I don’t feel very well, so I’ve got my own little cocktail that I’ve always had, and, you know, it works for me. Well, maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. Maybe it’s just the timing of things. At the end of the day, though, Troy, what do you feel are some of the larger myths or misconceptions when it comes to what we’re talking about?
SPEAKER 07 :
I think the biggest thing, and I believe it was Benjamin Franklin who said it, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. So once you have a viral infection and it’s full-blown viral infection, it is really, really difficult to do anything to minimize that. You may be able to shorten it by a day or two. but there’s very little you can do. So really, that old adage is very, very true. We need to work on the prevention side, do the things ahead of time, and try to keep that from happening, and you’re going to be much better off. Now, once you get there, certainly keeping well hydrated will help flush toxins from you continue on with even some of these vitamins if you can because some people get the nausea that goes along with it, and it’s hard to take vitamins, which, case in point, zinc is one of those that can cause a lot of nausea for people if you take it on an empty stomach. So just be mindful of that. But, yeah, I would say if you do these things, it’s going to help alleviate it once you get it, but the best practice is to get these – vitamins and minerals in your body and have this disciplined practice to try to ward it off at the get-go as opposed to trying to do something on the back end.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right. Sleep is something that you and I don’t talk about a lot. I have had other guests on. We talk about sleep periodically, and I know this is not the same for everyone, so please, all of you listening, I realize some can get by with sleep. Less sleep than others. I happen to be one of those people, Troy, where I can do, you know, if I get seven hours, I’m good. I can do that pretty steadily all the time and not have any issues. My wife, on the other hand, you know, she’s an eight-hour, you know, plus individual. She’s got a different, complete different, you know, body makeup than I do. And the reality is we’re all different when it comes to that. So I think my point I’m making here, Troy, is figure out what your sleep is and make sure that you keep those healthy patterns because I have to believe that helps with some of this as well.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, there’s no doubt that I think it’s similar to a computer. If you leave a computer running all the time, it typically bogs down and gets slower. And our bodies are designed very, very similar. We have to have that downtime. We have to have that time to reset everything and recalibrate and allow our immune system to catch up to everything that we’ve encountered during the day. So sleep is a crucial part of it. And that’s why I think this season is very difficult, especially if you’re having to travel and your sleep gets interrupted by certain things. Or, you know, say there’s a noise on the roof because Santa’s coming in and it wakes you up. You have all kinds of things that could happen.
SPEAKER 05 :
Absolutely. And again, folks, every one of you is different. Some of you need less. Some of you need more. It really comes down to you. You need to know what your sleep patterns are. By the way, some of you, you’ve got other family members, kids, and so on where this becomes important as well, and they can get run down. And by the way, this time of the year, on top of all of this – and Troy, you and I have talked about this many, many times – You get run down, there’s stuff already floating around, we now add this ingredient called sugar, which we all have too much of anyways, and now we get into the holidays, and by the way, it just shows up on steroids now, so we end up with way more sugar, which we all know doesn’t help the things you and I are talking about right now. So here’s personally my advice. If you feel like you’re coming down with something, my advice is… Try to eat as clean as you possibly can and stay away from sugar because the sugar is not going to help you recover. Am I right, Troy?
SPEAKER 07 :
You are absolutely correct, and I think that’s some of the most sound advice you could have and increase that hydration piece. The old concoction of green tea and honey, I think there are definitely some studies that show that helps people if you have a sore throat. If you have a cold and you’re feeling bad, that’s a good natural way to kind of fight some of those things off as well.
SPEAKER 05 :
And last guest we had on, Troy, we were just talking about the holidays and the stress that’s there, especially for folks that are hosting and so on. And, you know, our advice in the last segment, I know you would go along with this, would be, you know, enjoy the time you have with one another. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect. to have a good time. In fact, you know, most everybody, Troy, expects some things to not be perfect. I realize there’s going to always be that one family member that just expects things to be perfect. Sometimes I said this earlier, sometimes that’s apparent. You know, Troy, you have to just sort of learn to ignore, move along, not worry about it, downplay that if you would. And I know for a lot of folks, that’s hard to do because the pressure is great from those individuals, but that’s not helping your stress level. And we also know, Troy, when stress is up, illnesses come along with that as well.
SPEAKER 07 :
They do. Stress and anxiety are one of the top things that can break down your immune system and cause your body to go into overdrive. So you want to limit that stress. So take a deep breath, go for a walk, whatever it takes to kind of get yourself out of the situation I think is only going to be beneficial for your immune health overall.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, so along those lines, and I’m going to throw this back to you because this is what you do on a regular basis, are there supplements, vitamins that we can take that help reduce stress? You know, if you’re somebody that is just typically more stressed, especially this time of the year, and there are those folks out there, Troy, listening to me as we speak, male and female, by the way, and even sometimes kids, are there things we can actually take that would help with that?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, there are actually a couple that will help calm your body down a little bit. They actually help lower blood pressure in studies. So magnesium is one that you can take and seems to, in studies, help people just kind of relax and calm down a little bit. GABA is another good supplement that you could take, and it has been shown in studies to kind of lower people’s stress levels. But I think the best thing to do is try to get yourself out of the situation. If you can’t get yourself out of the situation, then come up with steps and strategies to walk yourself through those situations to try to get you to the other side. Because the gab and the magnesium are really probably better suited to get you past that stress and anxiety to help you get to sleep and kind of keep your mind from from turning from what I’ve seen in the studies. But great question.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, I appreciate that. Talk to us about Centurion Health. In other words, how do folks find you? What makes you guys different than some of the other brands that are out there and so on?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, so you can find us at centurion.health. So it’s C-E-N-T-U-R-I-O-N dot health, H-E-A-L-T-H. And really what we’re about is trying to find products that will help people people without breaking the bank and provide products that are clean, that have been tested, that have some studies and data behind them in order to bring the best value we possibly can for individuals who are looking to get their help up and running.
SPEAKER 05 :
I see a lot of different stamps of ads of different products, third-party tested. Is there something to that or is that strictly marketing, Troy?
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s a little bit of both. You certainly want to have all your products third-party tested because you want to make sure that it doesn’t have any contaminants in it and that it contains what it’s supposed to have in it, what the label says it has in it. But we have actually found some products that were on some big online platforms that everybody would probably recognize that seem to be from Chinese companies that they faked the third-party testing on the site. So you just want to be mindful of who you’re buying from and make sure that, to me, one of the best things you can do is have it made in the USA because typically you’re going to have a little bit more stringent, I guess, demands and qualifications in order to get it made in the U.S., than you will from those being made overseas. So that’s one way you can certainly help head things off the path, make sure it’s made here, and then if it’s third-party tested, that certainly helps. But it doesn’t necessarily solve everything because, unfortunately, people will cheat and lie no matter what it is.
SPEAKER 05 :
Alright, one last question for you before I let you go. There’s all sorts of products that will come out, especially this time of the year, and especially once Christmas is over because those New Year’s resolutions will start. Our product, guaranteed to do blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And man, Troy, some of these have huge claim to fame. How many of these things actually work at the end of the day that folks see?
SPEAKER 07 :
Great question. It depends on the product. I think All the products can work, but the problem is there is no magic pill for anything. Even prescription products, the GLP-1s and the Ozempics and the other things people are taking, there are going to be side effects and downsides to it. So having those things but having a good plan on diet and exercise, that’s where if you couple all those things together, that’s where you’re going to have the greatest long-term effect. You may have some short-term effects with it, but it won’t have long-lasting effect unless you couple it with that diet and exercise piece because we know as a whole about, and I’m probably throwing out a number that’s a little high, but I’d say 80% to 90% of the issues that we have in our society when it comes to health are is because we don’t have the right diet and we don’t have exercise going along with it.
SPEAKER 05 :
Self-induced.
SPEAKER 07 :
That is key. Yep.
SPEAKER 05 :
Self-induced. Absolutely. Yep. That’s why we do this health and wellness segment every single week, folks. It’s one of my goals is to see if we can get people to be as healthy as they possibly can. One last time, Troy, how do folks find you guys?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, go to centurion.health, so C-E-N-T-U-R-I-O-N dot H-E-A-L-T-H.
SPEAKER 05 :
Troy, I know I say this a lot, but I always appreciate your time, your great resource. You do a lot of great things for us here, our listeners as well, and just want to wish you a very Merry Christmas.
SPEAKER 07 :
John, I appreciate it. Hope you all have a great Christmas as well.
SPEAKER 05 :
We will. We’ll talk to you next year.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, Troy, have a great one. And, guys, fantastic individual. I know I’ve said this a lot in the past, and in a lot of ways I have to really get Troy to even talk about him and his products and the value that’s there and how great they are. He is very humble, as you can tell. He’s never self-absorbing when it comes to his own products and his own company, and I will tell you that he’s got some of the best products ever. So if you’re looking for some great supplements that meet all of the things that he just said a moment ago and he doesn’t sell himself near enough as far as that goes, his products are second to none. They’re solid. If you’re looking for some really great supplements and you’re looking for a resource for the things that we talk about here on a regular basis. His website, Centurion Health, is the way to do that. And I cannot say enough about Troy and just how well he does at everything in that world, plus what he does for us here on a routine basis. SPEAKER 03 :
Suck it up, buttercup. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, as we wind down this particular Health and Wellness Wednesday, we’ll have one more of these, of course, before we actually do the whole Christmas holiday week, because that is the week after next. But I think as a reminder, just as we wind down this hour and some of what we’ve talked about is, as you prepare your mind to sort of go down this last stretch into Christmas, do that. Prepare your mind. Take a load off when it comes to even some of the preparation end of things like we were talking to with Shanna Steen, even Troy just a few minutes ago. In other words, everything doesn’t have to be perfect. And a lot of you want it to be. And I get that. I’m very OCD and I’m that way. So I understand where that comes from. Trust me. And some of this I’m looking in the mirror and speaking to myself on because everything’s not perfect. going to be perfect. No matter how hard you try, stuff just happens. So I think Shanisty’s example, by the way, or her recommendation of having backup plans for different things is really great advice. Figure out things where if this doesn’t turn out exactly the way I want, okay, I have a backup plan. plan that I can slip right in and off we go and nobody’s the wiser. Again, a lot like what I do here on radio from time to time. There’s lots of mistakes, by the way, that happen here on a routine basis that most of you out there never know happen because we don’t highlight it. And I think Shanice’s advice of don’t highlight the things that go wrong and guess what? No one will ever know that they actually did. And I liked her advice of never apologize for things because the reality is You don’t have to. Most of all, be yourself, have fun, enjoy the friends and family that you’ll have around this holiday season, this Christmas season, and just make the most of it and enjoy. Because I can tell you this firsthand, some of those folks that you’re going to be around won’t be around forever. So most of all, just enjoy each other. That’s it for this first hour. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 14 :
Thank you.
