Tanner’s Tumultuous NFL Picks – Week 2 🏈

Tanner’s Tumultuous NFL Picks: Week 2

Greetings!

My Week 1 final record was 9 and 7.

Not bad, however, there were a lot of games that were close. Some teams looked like they didn’t practice all year, others were shockingly better than expected. I think about half of NFL fans thought the Giants could maybe win their first game versus the Vikings because J.J. McCarthy went down in the preseason, and we have never seen Sam Darnold actually make a positive impact for a franchise. The Giants got destroyed by a mediocre team. Deshaun Watson and the Browns looked awful, and that is mostly because of Watson. The great, historic play from Watson in Houston, seems to have entirely faded and he looks like he is a bottom ten quarterback. The Panthers may be worse this year, somehow. And, what were Kirk Cousins and the Falcons doing? They lost to the Steelers who scored six, yes SIX, field goals to win.

Some of the picks I took from Week 1 were upsets or I thought with players back from injury they would look great. Aaron Rodgers and the Jets seemed to be missing some chemistry, which makes sense since Aaron went down on the first drive of the 2023 season. They also played a top three team in the league. And who could forget the Bengals losing to the Patriots. I am happy for Jerod Mayo and the Patriots, but what was that Cincinnati? Now let’s take a look at Week 2 in the NFL.

But that’s last week, and we look FORWARD, not backward.

Bills @ Dolphins (-2.5): Thurs. 6:15p

I think Miami gets it done Thursday. Since Tua Tagovailoa joined the Dolphins, he is one and seven against the Bills. While thew Miami weather is still scorching hot, the Dolphins have a great opportunity to get a win over a divisional opponent. I love the Bills and their new look approach on offense. However, I am going to take Dolphins 31-24

Saints @ Cowboys (-6): Sun. 11:00a

The Saints had the largest win in Week 1 beating the Panthers 47 to 10. What a howler that game was. The Cowboys were slight underdogs against the Browns who most people thought should be a Super Bowl contender. After all, Joe Flacco took them to the playoffs last year once Deshaun Watson went down. Flacco was on his couch and was able to win some crucial games. The Cowboys will be a playoff team whereas the Saints are in a three-team race to win the NFC South. Cowboys win and cover 35-21

Buccaneers @ Lions (-7.5): Sun. 11:00a

Have the odds makers watched the Buccaneers the last year and change? They won a playoff game, and barely lost to the Lions in the Divisional round. Last week the Bucs looked unstoppable with 37 points scored at home. Baker threw 4 touchdowns and the team looked as if Tom Brady was quarterback. I love the Lions, but after them narrowly beating the Rams in overtime last week, I think the Lions win, but don’t cover 30-26

Colts (-2.5) @ Packers: Sun. 11:00a

Unfortunately, the Packers quarterback, Jordan Love, is going to miss some time after picking up an MCL sprain Week 1. The Colts looked pretty solid in a narrow loss to the Texans. Malik Willis is going to be the Packers starter, and if you ever caught some of the games he was able to play in for the Titans, he looked like one of the worst NFL quarterbacks ever. I think the Packers season is already over unless Jordan Love can be back at the end of the month. Colts cover and win 27-20

Jets (-4) @ Titans: Sun. 11:00a

The Titans almost upset the new-look Bears, but a few bad special teams plays and an atrocious pick 6 by quarterback Will Levis make it tough to take them against the Jets. I know the Jets didn’t look to hot Monday night against the 49ers. Aaron Rodgers ahs now played a full game and the Titans are not nearly as talented as the 49ers. The 49ers may also be the best coached team in the league. Jets win and potentially cover 27-17

49ers (-5.5) @ Vikings: Sun. 11:00a

Anyone who doesn’t think the 49ers will win is either delusional or knows some insider trading knowledge. The 49ers we all know are one of if not the best team in the NFL. They have Pro-Bowlers at every position and even when Christian McCaffery was out, undrafted running back Jordan Mason was picking up yards as if he was McCaffery. The Vikings shocked people with their beat down on the Giants, but 49ers win comfortable 34-17

Seahawks (-3.5) @ Patriots: Sun. 11:00a

I really like the Seahawks this year. They have great players on both sides of the ball. Their first game, against the Broncos, was closer than I expected. The shock of the first week was the New England Patriots. The Patriots have been laughed at ever since Tom Brady left New England. Now, they started off the year with a 1st career win for their coach, and they haven’t even played their rookie first round quarterback, Drake Maye. This is only positive results for the Patriots. However, Seattle wins and covers 28-18

Giants @ Commanders (-1.5): Sun. 11:00a

The Giants were a joke against the Vikings. There is no other way to put it. They wore the worst uniforms maybe in NFL history to acknowledge their 100th year anniversary. The 100th season for the Football Giants might be one of their worst in franchise history. The Commanders lost to the Buccaneers by 17, but the Bucs made it to the Divisional round of the playoffs last year and looked like they are right back in the proverbial cat-bird seat of the NFC South. I really like Jayden Daniels and he will get stronger each week. Commanders win 23-17

Browns @ Jaguars (-3): Sun. 11:00a

Since the Browns stunk it up at home versus the Cowboys, I have to take the Jaga who barely lost to the Dolphins. As long as Trevor Lawerence doesn’t turn the ball over this team will be a real factor in the AFC. The AFC South ahs gotten ten times more difficult to win in the past two years. The Jags should get their first win of the season winning 28-20

Raiders @ Ravens (-9): Sun. 11:00a

The Raiders player my Chargers and kept turning the football over, and Maxx Crosby was ineffective because both tackles essentially took him out of the game. That will be different in this matchup because as we saw int eh Ravens vs Chiefs game, the Ravens tackles have a few issues of their own. Whether it’s lining up incorrectly and receiving a flag, or purely letting pressure get to Lamar Jackson, Maxx Crosby will impact the game. One defensive player can win you games, i.e. Lawerence Taylor, but Ravens are extremely well coached and have better personnel overall. Ravens win 34-13

Rams @ Cardinals (-1): Sun. 2:05p

This is easily one of the best matchups of the week. The Rams lost Puka Nacua to an injury so Cooper Kupp will take the bulk of the receiving load. However, Tyler Johnson and the rest of the Rams offense played solid in their first game against the Lions. The Cardinals almost beat the Bills, if Kyler Murray was a little taller and saw Marvin Harrison Jr. deep, they may have won that game. The Cardinals are better and will be better than people think. I think Stafford still is a top 10 quarterback and the Rams win 23-20

Steelers (-2.5) @ Broncos: Sun. 2:25p

The Broncos have to win this game right Bronco Nation? The revenge game of all revenge games. We all know Russell (Russ) Wilson as traded to the Broncos two years ago for a boatload of picks and signing him to a new contract. We all know how that went… I like Bo Nix, I know he had some errors and turnovers in Week 1, btu that is to be expected. Russ is supposed to start, we could see Justin Fields behind center. Every NFL fan I believe wants to see Russ against Denver. Broncos win 23-19

Bengals @ Chiefs (-5.5): Sun. 2:25p

The Bengals were easily the biggest disappointment from Week 1, and its not like this game will be remotely easier. Losing to the Patriots with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback still rattles me. Now, you have to play Patrick Mahomes! Unless the Bengals have really turned it around, this game won’t be close. Yes, Jamar Chase has not been in training camp, but he still had 6 receptions and over 60 yards. The team scored 10 points; you won’t win any games scoring 10 points in this new high-octane offensive driven NFL. Chiefs win 38-17

Bears @ Texans (-6.5): Sun. 6:20p

The Bears and Caleb Williams looked pretty poor in their first game. The Bears special teams and defense each had a touchdown which ended up being the reason the Bears won. The Bears punted six times and, in most games, six possessions turned to punts would mean you will lose that game unless the other team is just as chaotic (the Tians punted 5 times). C.J. Stroud is already one of the best quarterbacks in the league and he should have a great day against the Bears. Texans win 35-17

Falcons @ Eagles (-6.5): Mon. 6:15p

What a shocker that the Flacons lost 18-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. 10 points Kirk Cousins? They have Drake London, Kyle Pitts, Bijan Robinson, Darnell Mooney and one of the best offensive lines and you score 10!! The Eagles beat the Packers in one of the craziest Week 1 games I have ever seen. With penalty flags and turnovers galore to start. The Eagles held on and won. Saquon Barkley is already a fan favorite in Philly. Eagles keep flying to a 36-20 win
