So I look at guns. lot like i do cars so a lot of you know that i do drive radio on saturdays i’m a car guy that’s my history i’ve been around cars literally literally my entire life on the same token i’ve been around guns my entire life probably equally and i’m not exaggerating when i say that you know what have i spent more time on Cars, probably, because it’s something you do every single day. And no, I don’t have an at-home range or anything like that, so I don’t shoot every day. But do I have a vast knowledge of guns, old, new, and so on? Yes. Am I considered a gun expert? I’m not a novice. I don’t know that I would consider myself… An expert, although I will tell you, I don’t know that I consider myself an expert on anything, even cars. I mean, there’s so much to learn on those that while I do drive radio and I keep up with things regularly and I coach auto shops on how to improve their profits and so on, at the end of the day, am I an expert on any of it? No. I’m still learning, you know. Anytime I hear somebody say, well, I’m an expert at such and such. Well, okay, well, you may be. But, you know, everything’s evolving and changing and moving and all of that. So unless you’re dealing with it every single solid day, are you an expert? Probably not. And on the gun side, though, I mean, are there some universal things that will apply to all situations? Yes, there is, especially when it comes to guns for ladies. Are there universal things that you can look at and follow? I believe there is, yes. I think also that a lot of times ladies in general have been – scared, I think I’m using the right words here, scared from guns for one reason or another. In a lot of cases, it was a knucklehead husband, boyfriend, father maybe even, whereby they were being trained on something they shouldn’t have shot in the first place. For example, you’re out shooting and maybe you’ve brought your spouse or your girlfriend along with you. The last thing you want to do is hand her, there’s some exceptions I know, but In most cases, you’re not going to hand her the same thing you’re shooting. And I’ll explain why. But you’re typically just not going to do that. And I think that’s where sometimes ladies get afraid of even shooting a gun in the first place is because somebody did what I just said. You know, they’re shooting a .357 Magnum or maybe even a .38 or they’re shooting a .45 or they’re shooting a .44 Mag or in some cases even, depending upon the gun, a 9mm Magnum. And they then hand that to their girlfriend. They kind of show them or their wife and they kind of show them the ropes of what to do. And they shoot it and they’re not happy and they’re sort of tainted. It’s like. It’s like putting a novice driver in a supercar. Would you do that? Of course you wouldn’t. You wouldn’t put a novice driver in a supercar no more than you would put a 10-year-old in a supercar. Now, I realize there’s some videos out there where, believe it or not, there’s like this 8- or 9-year-old kid that gets behind the wheel of a supercar. They’ve got the steering mechanisms and everything all arranged and the pedals and such where he can reach all of it, and he does really well. But unique situation. That’s not normally the case. Normally, you wouldn’t put somebody that’s not experienced behind the wheel of a supercar or a race car or anything along those lines. You want them to have some experience. I look at the gun end of things for ladies in much the same way. I look at it for kids the same way as well. Start them off light, 22, for example. And you can start them off. I personally, this is me, and again, some people might argue with me on this, and I’m not a firearms instructor or anything along those lines, but personally, safety-wise, and I have one of these, and I think it’s one of the best guns to train someone on how to just handle the mechanisms of. I’ve got a single-shot Ruger .22. It’s the convertible where it’s a .22 or a .22 mag. And for training somebody the first time out, it’s a long barrel. It’s very easy, comfortable to shoot. It’s a you pull the hammer back each time, so you’re giving them the mechanics of how things actually work, and it’s extremely safe. So for me, that’s kind of my go-to for anybody that’s never shot before. If I know I’m going out, for example, and I’m going to bring some people along that have never shot, that’s a gun I’m going to bring no matter what. Again, some of you would say, well, why? That doesn’t make any sense. Well, when you think through it, it does, because that single-shot revolver, that has really no recoil. It’s a simple weapon to use. It’s very easy to handle. And the fact that it’s a .22, the grips, and I’ll get into that in a moment, are small. So for individuals with smaller hands, which, by the way, are mostly ladies, everything just fits well, and it’s very comfortable, and they can get used to shooting something that’s not going to scare them. Just like driving a regular automobile versus driving a supercar. So I think a lot of times women are intimidated and or get scared because they start shooting something that they shouldn’t have had in their hands in the first place. And I think this can be true even for some men sometimes. And again, as a kid, I’d just go back in time and just look back at what did my father do with me to teach me how to be around guns and ammo and how to shoot and so on. And he started us off. Actually, I started even with a BB gun. I didn’t even start with an actual firearm. We started with a BB gun. Right. the Red Riders of sort, and you learned the mechanics of and how to line up your sights and how to shoot things and how to aim and all of that, and then you kind of graduated from that into maybe a better CO2 pellet gun or an air rifle. I had an old Benjamin back when I was a kid. And then from there, you’d get up into where you were shooting a .22, and then maybe you could shoot Dad’s pistol, and then maybe as time went by, you could shoot a 20-gauge and then a 12-gauge, and you get the drift of where I’m going with this. And a lot of you I know, I just maybe spoke, in circles because you don’t even know the terminology of some of those, but these are things easily looked up, and frankly, any good gun store, and I say good, a gun store that really understands you, the customer, will help you through all of this. But I’m also one that if you’ve never shot before and you’re a lady especially, and you’re a single lady, I think this was a situation we had earlier in the week, was a single lady wanting to know, hey, I’d like to be able to protect myself. Given the world that we’re in today, I’d like to be able to protect myself. What do I do? And I’m going to walk you through that. Now, when it comes to self-defense, we need to separate self-defense out into categories. Are you defending yourself at home? Are you defending yourself out in public? If you’re going to defend yourself out in public, and despite the people that would disagree with me, by law, if you’re going to conceal carry, you’re supposed to have a permit for that. And there’s a process to go through to get that. I know some would say, phooey on it, just carry anyways. I’m giving you the legalities of this and how that’s supposed to work. You can do whatever you want to. You’re free to do whatever you want. But by law, if you conceal carry on your body, in your purse, whatever, you’ve got to do that properly according to the law or you could have problems. In fact, in Colorado, you now have to even carry that weapon in your car properly. So you need to look up all those laws, and those are some things I guess I could get into on this program on down there. But for right now, I’m just going to talk about the different aspects of owning a firearm, especially for a lady, and what are your options. And in this case, I’m going to single out single ladies that may live alone. And the reason why I say you have options on what you want to own, you do. And, of course, the options are vast, of course. And you can own everything from a pistol to a rifle to a shotgun to whatever you’re comfortable with. Now, what I would also say, and again, this is going to be different than others, but I look at this a lot like I do vehicles. You have to do whatever you’re the most comfortable with. And that’s going to be my number one suggestion or advice for ladies, really for anybody. What are you most comfortable with? Are you most comfortable at home defending yourself with a nice 20-gauge shotgun? It can be a semi-automatic. It could be a pump. It could be a double barrel. Again, what are you most comfortable with? What can you load the easiest and handle and so on? Because, again, if you have an intruder coming in, Even a 20-gauge shotgun loaded with the right ammunition, and I’ll talk about some of that as well, but loaded with the right ammunition, will you do damage and slow somebody down or even scare them off or kill someone with a 20-gauge shotgun? Absolutely you can. No doubt about it. Given the right situation and you handling things correctly and so on, you absolutely can. So I’m not a one-size-fits-all. And I think when you go through a lot of the articles, and I did this, I went and looked at a lot of the articles and started reading through, you know, weapons for ladies, and it’s all over the map as far as what ladies should own. And I’m not one to just dictate what should you own because I think everybody’s different. Every lady’s size, by the way, is different. Some ladies are larger. Some ladies are smaller. Some are petite. Some are not. What are you comfortable shooting? Just like men, what are you the most comfortable with? Because it is not like a car. It is not a one-size-fits-all, and I do not like individuals, articles, even gun shops that will tell you that, oh, yeah, you’ve got to own this. That’s like saying you should own this tool in the auto world, for example. No, there’s multiple tools that can still get the job done at the end of the day. It’s what are you most comfortable with and what’s going to get the job done for you personally. John and Cheyenne, go ahead.
SPEAKER 03 :
Hey, just this story real quick. I had a buddy who was a drill sergeant back in the 80s when I was in the service, and he said, that women were the easiest to teach to shoot because he never had to break bad habits on about 98% of them. Because every man has already shot a lot of times when they go into service and they have bad habits that a lot of times at M16 you had to shoot it the way the military wanted you or you were missing. Got it. Because it had to adjust. You know, guys say, oh, I’ll do a Kentucky Vintage. No, you’ll adjust the rear sight. You’ll adjust your front sight. So what you’re aiming at is what you’re hitting. Where women didn’t have that. The other thing I would recommend, and you used to have a sponsor. I won’t say their name. That was a gun store and had a range. And I believe you could go in a place like that. There’s a few up here. And say, I want to buy… a pistol, say, for instance, but I’m not sure what, can they try? You know what I mean? Do they have try-ons? And I don’t know if you were going to get to that, but that might. No, no, no.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, no, I was going to. But, you know, and again, but that’s another one, too, John, where I still feel like and if you’re a single lady and you have nobody around you that can help you through this effectively. Yeah, you’re going to have to do exactly, John, what you just said and hopefully find somebody that will walk you through all of these things. Because, again, I will tell you straight up and I think you would agree with me on this. In some cases, for some women, you may be better off with a 20-gauge pump shotgun or a 20-gauge double-barrel shotgun as opposed to even a pistol. It just depends on who you are.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, and what you want it for. And then, you know, a lot of people say, well, you need a pistol for defense. Well, do you really? Would a can of bear spray or a can of pepper spray do just as well? Possibly. Not always, but most of the time.
SPEAKER 08 :
And they will tell you that, yes, a pistol is typically better for self-defense than even a shotgun is. Although I think, John, there’s something about when you’re inside the house, you’re a would-be robber or assailant or something, and you hear the rack of that shotgun. It is definitely going to wake you up and make you realize that, oh, somebody here means business. Am I right?
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, absolutely. Because, you know, you pull your pistol out of the nightstand, they’re not going to hear you cocking it if it’s a revolver.
SPEAKER 06 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 03 :
Whereas if you put a round up in the chamber of a pump shotgun… Everybody hears that, especially on a quiet night.
SPEAKER 08 :
Exactly. You know me, John. I’m just not a one-size-fits-all. I’ve experienced over the years far too many ladies that you almost, to your point a moment ago, had to deprogram because somebody else had screwed things up prior, and you really had to almost start over with them as in, here’s a single-shot .22 Ruger. You’re not going to have much recoil. This will be very easy for you to shoot, practice, and get used to. Once you’re done with this and you’ve mastered it, we can then move you up if you’d like.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, yeah, that’s the thing. And then you have to, like my wife, she’s tiny. She’s 5’2″. She weighs 105 pounds soaking wet.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, mine’s the same. So, yeah, there you go. I understand.
SPEAKER 03 :
She needed a smaller pistol that would fit in her hands. And I found her a small Ruger 380, and she loves it. There you go. Because it’s just a little compact. It fits in her hand. It doesn’t kick too much, so she’s not afraid to shoot it. And it’s things like that. So, you know, to the young lady who called in and asked what they should get, I don’t know about Denver. I know up here there’s one small gun store that will – Walk through and say, what do you want to do all that? But if you go into like, I don’t know, I don’t want to throw anybody under the bus.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, John, if you walked into Cabela’s or any of those places, I hate to say it, John, but you’re probably not going to get that same kind of training. Let’s just say it that way.
SPEAKER 03 :
Services. And service.
SPEAKER 08 :
And service, right.
SPEAKER 03 :
You’ve got to have a guy at the gun counter that’s looking to sell a gun, not sell the right gun.
SPEAKER 08 :
You might not even have a guy that’s really a gun guy. He just knows the proper steps to go through to sell you whatever you’re asking for. I hate to say that, but I’m being honest. And really quick, John, going back to my car example, no different than I’m one of those guys where if I go to buy a car, I know far more about the car make, model, and what I’m buying than the guy selling it to me does. I have found the same thing going into some of the big box stores buying guns.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, absolutely. But you also, okay, what do you want it for? You started your whole thing, your whole show today with why do you need it and what is the primary use for it. The only other thing I had to say is when you said make sure you follow the law, check the laws, because like in Wyoming, we’re a concealed carry state. You don’t need a permit. You don’t need anything you can carry.
SPEAKER 08 :
And, yeah, thank you for the reminder because our signal covers multiple states. So, yes, all of you, not only your state, cover what your city and your municipality even says because in Colorado, for example, that can even vary from place to place. So by all means, I mean, again, you do whatever you want to do, but I want to make sure folks stay legal, John.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, doesn’t the city of Denver have, like, draconian New York City-style gun laws?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes. You don’t hear of them enforcing it much, but, you know, you and I both know, John, if push came to shove and they wanted to find something to go after, they can.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, but what I was saying is, yeah, they have really bad gun laws, and they have the worst crime. Shouldn’t say it that way, but… You’re right.
SPEAKER 08 :
No, I think that’s well within what you want to say. I think that’s fine.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. So, I mean, but just remember… When you’re going to point a pistol at somebody, or a rifle, or a shotgun, you better be ready to pull the trigger. Don’t freeze, because that’s even worse.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 03 :
Because that’ll get some people that’ll buy a gun for protection, but when it comes to the moment of truth, they’re afraid to pull the trigger. Yep. And now they’re dead because the gun maybe got… Yeah, thank you for saying that too, John.
SPEAKER 08 :
That’s one of those things too on the front side. A, what are you using it for? What do you want this for? And are you prepared to actually use it in that particular scenario? Because if you’re not, no offense, John, you’re probably better off not owning it because you could end up just giving somebody something else when it’s all said and done.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. And I don’t know if you’ve ever… We practice with it because of where we backpack sometimes. They have practice… canisters of bear spray without the pepper in it. Have you ever set off a can of bear spray for any reason, John?
SPEAKER 08 :
I have not.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay. I guarantee there, unless somebody’s so hyped on drugs that nothing’s going to stop them, there isn’t a human being that bear spray is not going to slow down.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, I’ve had experiences even with just some of the lighter maces and things like that, John, and even that is awful.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right, and a lot of times if that’s what you want, if you’re just carrying it for protection, that might be better. I remember years ago when we were talking to Kevin Flesch one day, and I asked him that, and he said it’s easier to get you off if you hit somebody with bear spray than if you shoot them. Yep. Yep. No, because they’re not dead. Yeah, because they’re not dead. You didn’t kill them, so it’d be easier to get somebody off of, you know, You assaulted me with bear spray. Well, you came at me with a knife. Okay.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 03 :
Absolutely. That’s why, you know, it’s funny. People laugh. Like, even if I go hiking in the mountains, my bear spray is always in my pack or on my shoulder in my holder because I don’t know what I’m going to encounter. And that’s my first line, in my opinion. You know, that or the trekking pole in my hand. But that’s the other thing is Are you looking at steps, too, when you’re looking to defend yourself? Can you walk away? Can you back off? Can you use a stick or a trekking pole, bear spray, before you go to the lethal weapon? Like I said, are you ready to take a life?
SPEAKER 08 :

And everybody so far is really just agreeing with what I’m saying and the advice that we’re giving and added to that a little bit that my whole being comfortable with things is huge. In fact, somebody texted in a moment ago and said it’s like a camera. If you’re comfortable with the camera, any of the major brands will work fine. The competitiveness of each is so high today that as long as you like it and it’s comfortable and it fits you, you’ll use it. If you buy something that you’re not comfortable with or you don’t like something on it, you’re less likely to use it. The same is true in this particular realm when it comes to guns, especially… with ladies, but I’ll be the first to admit, and I can relate a little bit to some of this on the female side. I don’t have huge hands. A lot of you that have never met me wouldn’t know that, of course, but I don’t have big hands. I guess working on cars, that was always an advantage because I could get my fingers and hands in places that a lot of other technicians even couldn’t, and they’d sometimes even come get me to do things because I could do things that… Others couldn’t. On the same token, I don’t have big hands when it comes to guns and things like that. So I’m very particular on some of the, especially pistols that I own, because some of them just don’t fit my hand perfectly. very well, and in turn, like our texter just a moment ago said on the cameras, if it doesn’t feel good, you’re not going to shoot it. You’re not going to use it, and you won’t be very accurate either. You won’t be comfortable using said weapon, and every weapon shoots a little differently for lots of different reasons, and it is important, especially, you know, we’re talking about somebody that maybe has never owned a gun in the past, and they’re looking to do this for the first time. It’s also very important to And, you know, Tina Francon, who we’ve had on many times, her husband Frank as well, they do training, especially for ladies. Tina’s an NRA instructor, and they do a great job in this particular area. And what I will tell you is if you’ve never shot one before, it’s really – worth having somebody like her walk you through this whole process and how things work and how you would handle those things on down the line. And so to me, that’s really, really, really important is trying to find somebody that really can help you with things. and how that works and so on. So anyways, those are some thoughts along those lines. But really, you need to make sure that it fits you and everybody’s different. That’s where it bothers me when you get into certain articles and things like that where it’s sort of this one-size-fits-all. It is not. It’s far from that. Jim, you’re next. Go ahead.

Yeah, hey, John. Hey, listen, yeah, talking about guns. Well, a little bit before guns. You know, Chris, we live out in the country, right? And, you know, I don’t know. It’s one of those things. I always do these scenario things, and we’ve talked about the scenario type stuff. And, you know, like I told my wife, if she comes home and she sees doors or a window or anything propped open, the first thing I always tell my wife, go get the shepherds and turn the shepherds loose inside the house.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, good idea.
SPEAKER 11 :
You know what I’m saying? Yeah, good idea. The Shepherds are going to bring down somebody, or they’re going to shoot the Shepherds. And I’ll tell you what, while they’re messing with the Shepherds, the other thing, like I told her, is I bought my wife a 6RP38. Well, I don’t know the number. Basically, it’s a .380. And we’ve done a lot of shooting with it, but I’m like, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. This just ain’t, this is never going to work, man. It’s like, you’ve got to be pretty much accurate. and do a lot of shooting with a handgun to be real accurate with that. So I went, well, you know something? I know something that is not going to miss, and I’m not going to put birdshot in it. I’m going to put a five-shot in it. And I went and I purchased, and let me tell you, I had to do a lot of looking for this gun, a riot gun, same kind of gun that the Sheriff’s Department uses. It’s a riot gun. And let me tell you something. My wife can shoot that, and I’ll tell you what, she doesn’t miss. Even if you get the person with two or three of those five-shot BBs, let me tell you something, it’s going to hurt if it’s not going to bring you down. You know what I’m saying? And like in our scenario, like I’ve told my wife, I says, like in our house, I’ve told her, the first place you go to is you go to the master bedroom. And you stand behind a wall, and you… close the doors behind you, and you tell them, get out, don’t come through those doors. If you come through those doors, you’re going to get it. Yep. And about the first time you shoot that door with a riot shotgun, and it’s a 16-gauge, and you shoot a big old hole through that, let me tell you what, a person’s going to think twice about coming through those doors.

And in this day and age of the violence and the illegals and whatnot, and I’ve even told her, you know what, you’re inside the house and I’m not home. I says, you know what, I says, I don’t even care if it’s a neighbor. If it’s just a man by himself, you do not open those doors. You tell them to go over by the kitchen window, I open up the kitchen window, and you talk to them through the kitchen window. Mm-hmm. I don’t hardly have any trust of anybody anymore, John.

Jim, I’m with you. I fully understand that.
SPEAKER 11 :
You know what I’m saying? Well, and the thing is about out there where we live, we have a number of families out there that raise a lot of foster kids. And let me tell you something. I’ve seen like our one neighbor, he’s got like four or five foster kids up there, and we’ve seen those kids up there. When the adults ain’t home, and I just can’t believe this, but we’ve seen them get a hold of their guns and go out there and shoot their guns.

Hmm, interesting.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, isn’t that interesting?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah.

You know, my wife says, well, why don’t you turn them in? I’m like, I should, but until one of those bullets come brazen… down past my property, hits one of my animals or something, I’m going to keep my nose out of it.

And I’m like you on that. I can’t blame you for that.

You know what I’m saying?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yep.

But I just, I can’t believe adults could be that irresponsible. You know, because they just, you know, over this last summer, they just put those mom and dad in prison for having bought that gun for their kid and him going out and killing somebody.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yep. Yep. Can’t argue that.

You know what I’m saying? Yep, you’re right. Because, you know, I’m going to tell you, John, I’ve had to put some dogs down that I really loved because of them killing some of my farm animals. And I’m going to tell you what, you pull that trigger, that’s it. It’s over with. Whatever you do is not getting back up.

So, you know, I’m not a concealed carry person because with our liberal government that we got in the state of Colorado, I don’t care because these judges and these prosecutors nowadays – You don’t know whether you’re going to end up going to prison or not. You’ve got to be really careful.

No, you know, that’s something, Jim. No, you’ve got to be very, very careful. Absolutely. No doubt about that.
SPEAKER 11 :
I put my damn dogs down for attacking somebody and for me shooting somebody.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, no, you’ve got to be very careful. No doubt about that. Okay. That’s all right. I’ll let you roll, Jim. Appreciate you very much. I’m going to continue on here so I can get all of this in here by the end of the program. So, all right, going back to your lady, you’re trying to choose what to do. And, you know, backing up like John from Cheyenne and I were talking about a moment ago as well. What are you using this for? Are you concealed carry? If that’s the case, that’s a whole other realm that you really need to think about getting into. I’m not saying you shouldn’t, but that’s a whole different realm of, of self-defense, even to Jim’s point a moment ago, than home defense. So really what you’ve got to think about is what am I trying to do? Am I defending my home or am I defending myself? Am I a realtor, for example, where you may be showing homes and doing things along those lines and you want some self-protection? Well, that’s a different situation than protecting your home. So first things first, understand what are you going to use this for? What’s the reason for it? And then once you define that, start whittling away at, okay, what do I feel most comfortable with? And this is where it may involve you actually finding a friend, a coworker, a family member. And if you don’t have any lines along those lines whatsoever, you may need to go to one of the ranges that John from Cheyenne was talking about where they may have some – train, some trainers, what I should say, some experts that are there that can train and demo some different guns with you. And again, trainers are like what I talked about a moment ago. They’re not going to put anything in your hand that you’re not sufficiently able to handle. Smart trainers, I mean, I guess there’s always some knucklehead somewhere that doesn’t do things correctly. But by and large, they understand what’s going on. And that’s another one of those things where, you know, look up your reviews. Talk to the different individuals because, you know, there’s gun stores all over the place and ranges as well. And you want to find one. Frankly, this is going back to the camera example. If you find one that’s close to you that you get a good relationship with, you’ll practice more and do more than one that’s an hour from your home, for example, or an hour and a half from your home. And or going up to the mountains to try to shoot and do things on your own. Much better to try to find something that’s within… Honestly, if you can do it within a half an hour to 45 minutes of your home, and even that’s probably pushing it. If you can do it within a half an hour of your home or where you work or are on the way to and from, I feel you’re much better off trying to do that so that you can get some good practice in. Because the more you do this, the more proficient you become. While… Shooting a gun is a lot like riding a bike. How proficient you are and how accurate you are will come down to how much do you do it. No doubt about that. And I also know, and this is true with people that drive race cars and things along those lines, some people just have more of a natural knack for some things than others. You may find yourself picking it up, doing very, very well, being a really good shot. I’ve had the experience in the past of having both men and women Kids, young, old, doesn’t matter. And I’ve had some ladies where you can hand them a gun and within just a few rounds, they are putting the thing dead center, doing great, no problems. They pick it up that quickly. I’ve had some men, on the other hand, where you give them the same weapon, they can’t hit the broad side of a barn. And I’ve had the opposite. You know, I’ve had some men where you hand them a weapon and right off the bat, they pick it up. They know what to do. Off they go. Done deal. Handled. Even young individuals, young people. And again, some of them can’t hit the broad side of the barn. There is. And this is me talking. And this is where I may get some disagreement from even some gun experts. But I do think there’s some natural ability. That comes into play here that some have and some don’t. So, again, this comes down to you and then the actual gun itself. I’ll get into that in a moment when it comes to the actual hardware, because the list, honestly, I don’t want to say it’s endless because that’s an exaggeration, but it is long. It is long, and it can be confusing, and depending upon what you read and who you talk to, and that’s where I would tell you be extremely careful. Because what you read from some individuals versus somebody else, everybody’s got game in it, has something to gain from it. So they’re in the game. Doesn’t matter whether it’s the gun store. Doesn’t matter if it’s the gun magazine that you’ve picked up and started reading. It doesn’t matter if it’s somebody that’s on an outdoorsman’s show, whether it be TV, radio, whatever. Keep in mind, the majority of these, unlike me, I don’t have any sponsors here from any gun representation whatsoever. No gun store, no range, no nothing. I’m totally independent from anybody’s influence along those lines. So I’m going to give you a completely unbiased idea of what I think you should be doing. And I’m not saying everybody else is biased, but they are a little bit. It’s like going to one type of car dealership versus another. Each dealership is going to be more biased to their brand than the next. It’s natural. And I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that. It’s just the way the world works. So you have to be careful when you start listening to others tell you what you should buy and shouldn’t buy. I’m going to try to give you as accurate of information as I can without any bias in it whatsoever because I have no stake in this. I don’t care what you buy. I don’t care what you use it for. Home defense, concealed carry. You name it. You do whatever works best for you. I’m just going to try to guide you through what some of those items are, what some of those guns actually are, and how they may work out for you. Now, I’m also not going to get heavy into the calibers because a lot of you that have experience with this probably would know what I mean by that. Some of you that maybe – there’s always an argument on the caliber end of things. And what I mean by caliber is the type of ammunition or the size of the bullet that is actually exiting the weapon. Again, there is a vast, vast, vast choice when it comes to that. And bigger is not always better. This comes back down to the camera example that somebody texted in on. Whatever you’re the most comfortable with, you’ll be the most accurate with. And accuracy, in my opinion, by all means, surpasses the actual firepower itself. In the old argument of, you know, do I want a 9mm or do I want a 40 Smith & Wesson or do I want a 45? You know, it depends on you, what you’re trying to do, who you’re shooting at, the accuracy of, and so on. So any of them will get the job done. It depends on who’s doing the shooting. So, again, if you’re a lady, what I would encourage you to do is really do some soul searching, number one, to determine what am I buying this for? Why do I want this? Number two, once you’ve determined that, we then need to determine what is it are you going to own and then get proficient with that particular piece of hardware so that you know exactly how to use it. And what I mean by that is, and I’ll get into this in a moment, you need to be so proficient with that weapon that you can even take it apart and clean it as needed because you will be doing that as well. If you start shooting, you will be doing your own gun cleaning and so on, or at least you should because that’s a part of this whole process. You don’t just shoot and then… Shoot again. You know, there’s a cleaning aspect to this as well, which, again, very few people talk about. And this is where, frankly, the more simple the gun, in my opinion, especially for ladies, the easier that part is. And I’ll get into in a moment even, you know, revolvers versus semi-automatics and so on, and I’ll get you my opinion on some of that. And, again, it’s my opinion, and I don’t have any stake in the game, but I’ll give you my thoughts on this in a moment as soon as we come back. Ready-radio.com is our website. All right, we are back. Ready Radio. KLZ 560. All right, getting into some of the hardware when it comes to choosing a weapon, a gun. This is for ladies. Men, you know, I guess the same advice would apply to you, especially maybe some of you that are more novice and haven’t done this before. The same would apply, actually. But a lot of men that… are already in tune with this program probably know you know what you like what you like to shoot even in some cases what you like to collect and so on in I’m not speaking to you I’m speaking to those ladies are individuals that maybe have never owned a gun before and really wanna know what should I own mean in again as I said before it’s not one size fits all in you really need to determine what are you doing why are you wanting to go down this path And budget becomes a factor as well. I will say that, in general, most guns will do what they’re intended to do. Now, there are finer weapons on the market than others, just like there’s finer cars on the market than there are others. But in the end, will a Toyota Corolla get you to and from wherever you’re going the same way a Rolls-Royce will? Yeah. Yeah. Yep. At the end of the day, if your goal is to get from point A to point B… and arrive safely, either car will do that. Now, both cars have a vast difference in how they do that and the luxury that goes along with it and the comfortability and, and, and, and, and. And I will tell you that some of that is true with guns as well. And some of you might argue with me on that because just because it’s a high-end weapon doesn’t always mean it’s better. By the way, same is true with cars. Just because it’s a high-end car doesn’t mean it’s better. It might be fancier and flashier and so on, but it doesn’t necessarily mean functionality-wise it’s any better than the counterparts, too. The same is true with guns. Just because it’s got somebody’s fancy name on it, Kimber, Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a better weapon. And sorry, nothing against Kimber, but I don’t own a Kimber and I don’t have a dog in the fight. And frankly, I wouldn’t own a Kimber. So I have my own reasons as to why. Some of you may think they’re the best things since sliced bread. I don’t. I’m not one of those. Frankly, I think you can buy a Ruger 9mm, you know, 1911. Sorry, .45 9mm or whatever you want to buy. I think you can buy a 1911 and a Ruger, and it will perform just as well as a Kimber. That’s just my own opinion. So that’s the discussion probably for another day. But choosing a gun comes down, again, to you. And what I will say is, and I did pull this off of – it’s interesting. If you do an Internet search on this, you know, guns for women, just do a Google search, there’s an AI initial – suggestion on certain things and i copied and pasted it and frankly i don’t know that i can argue with too much of this so in choosing a gun it’s important to consider the size this is for concealed weapons of course and how easy it is to conceal and here’s some top gun choices for women i’ll go through some of those but again as i said earlier you really got to determine why what are you doing is this for home self-defense If that’s the case, you may not even want a pistol. You may want to go ahead and do some sort of a rifle or a shotgun. It just depends on what you’re trying to do. And what’s your end goal when it’s all said and done? Now, some on this list, and this is where on concealed carry it gets a little dicey. And again, some of you may agree, some may disagree. Rule of thumb. The smaller the gun, the harder to handle to a degree. Now, I also will tell you the opposite’s not always true either. The larger the gun doesn’t mean it’s always easier to handle as well because, again, I go back to the hand size. And if you get a, you know, what we call a double stack where the ammunition is sitting side by side and the grips get really fat and you’ve got small hands, that may not work out really well for you either. Partially why, as I said earlier, for all of you listening, I have small hands and a 1911 I like very well because it’s single stack. but i can shoot a 45 no problem and i like the single stack yes i know i don’t get as much ammunition it’s a double stack this again this comes back down to do you like driving a chevy truck a ford truck or a ram truck They all do the same things. It’s what works best for you. So I’m not going to tell somebody else what to go own and buy and shoot. This really comes down to you and what you like and what you’re the most comfortable with. Even as far as, folks, when you bring it up to aim, what feels best? What do you feel the most comfortable with? What are you the most on target with? There’s a lot of factors that come into play there. And as you do a little bit of this, you’ll start to realize what I mean. So what I would tell you also is smaller isn’t always better. Sometimes smaller means they’re really hard to handle. And I’ll give you an example. They make a compact series. It’s on this list. That’s why I came up with this. Ruger LCR revolver that, frankly, for a lady, I wouldn’t hand them. That thing’s a handful. I would not give it to a lady. The thing will bite you all day long. And when I mean bite, you have to shoot it to know what I mean, but it’s not for most ladies. I owned one once and got rid of it because it’s a handful. So this is where you really have to do some trial and error and get out on the range and shoot a few weapons before you decide which one you want to go with. And there’s lots of brands. For example, on this list, there’s everything from, you know, Walter, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson, Glock, CZ, Ruger, Springfield, and so on. And by the way, that’s probably half of a lot of the popular brands that are out there. There’s more than that. So, again, I’m not a respecter of brands. I have my favorites, my favorites. It doesn’t mean that they’re your favorites, right? And one thing that you also need to determine when it comes to this gun and what you’re going to do with it is do you want a revolver? We used to call them wheel guns back in the day. You know, do you want a wheel gun or do you want a semi-automatic? This, again, comes down to you, your hand strength, what you’re comfortable with, and so on. And each one has advantages and disadvantages. What caliber do you want? This, again, comes down to you and what you’re comfortable with and, frankly, what are you the most accurate with? Because the heavier the caliber or the larger the caliber is what I should say, in some cases, the less accurate you might actually be, especially on the second shot if you have to take a second shot. So these are things that you have to really put into play when you start trying to make the decision as to what should I own, and it’s not a one-size-fits-all, despite what some in the gun industry might tell you. Because, by the way, every manufacturer thinks theirs is the best, and they should. They’re manufacturers. I get that. They’re trying to promote whatever they sell and make and so on, and I get that, and there’s nothing wrong with that. That’s fine. Somebody also said, gun tip, get the magazine or adapter for pinky. Yes, thank you. I agree with that. If you’re somebody that’s going to shoot, for example, a semi-automatic, they make magazine extenders whereby it can make that smaller gun feel a little bit larger and fit more comfortably in your hand. and not have some of the other disadvantages that that small gun might have because again what people don’t understand is as you get a smaller frame in the gun the more recoil and bite quote unquote it will have So again, smaller isn’t always better when it comes to the size of the gun itself. And by the way, this list that was on here from AI, there’s some of these guns. I just mentioned one a moment ago. I wouldn’t hand a lady. In fact, there’s a lot of these compact guns that to get started and start learning how to shoot, I wouldn’t hand a lady at all. So for a lot of you that are listening, you may end up with two guns. If you’re looking to conceal carry, you may end up with a concealed carry and one you keep around the house. And by the way, you’ll always be more comfortable with the one that’s around the house than you will the one that’s concealed carry because concealed carry typically is going to have more bite and be harder to handle than some of the other ones I just mentioned. And I know this is confusing and I’m trying not to be, but until you’re in it and have shot a few of these, you really don’t understand it. But once you do, you’ll know what I mean. And the worst thing I think that a woman can do is go right out, walk into the gun store. I’m going to conceal carry. What should I own? I think you should shoot first is my point. Even if it means you’re borrowing, you know, renting guns at the range to start out with, I think you’re better off doing that than to go straight out to a concealed carry gun because most of the concealed carry guns are not very fun to shoot. I’m just being straight up honest. Some of you that are listening that have been old-time gun guys would agree with me. Some of you that aren’t might not. But personally, the concealed carry guns are really the last things that I really want to go to the range and shoot because they’re not as fun. They’re not as accurate. They’re just the fit, the feel, everything. It’s just not the same. So those of you that have been down this path know exactly what I mean. Those of you that are novices that are just getting into this, don’t be swayed by someone else. including sometimes the gun store. Because again, everybody has a… How should I say this? A hand in the pot. They’re all wanting something out of this. And my recommendation is borrow some, find someone that can go with you and help you through this process, especially when it comes to people that have never shot before. Start small and work your way up in caliber, not in physical gun size, because there are some .22s out there that are physically the same size as more powerful calibers are, And my recommendation is start there. Get very comfortable with the gun first, and then work yourself into some of the higher calibers as you go. So I hope that gives you some suggestions.
