And let’s see, I guess those are the two main conditions. definitions of that. I chose this because we will be talking with, continuing our book discussion with Producer Luke and Producer Joe regarding The Prince by Machiavelli, and this was one of the words in the chapters that we’ll be going over today, and that is Malcontent, it’s M-A-L-C-O-N-T-E-N-T. So with that, I was looking for quotes because what I really was gathering from Machiavelli is that the ends justify the means. And I’m really, really concerned about where we are in our country right now. And so I went to William Penn. Some Fruits of Solitude, 1693 is when he wrote this. And he was born in 1644. He died in 1718. And William Penn was an English writer, theologian, religious thinker, and influential Quaker who founded the province of Pennsylvania. He was an advocate of democracy and religious freedom. He was known for his amicable relations and successful treaties with the Lenape native peoples who had resided in present-day Pennsylvania prior to the European colonization. In 1681, King Charles II granted an area of land corresponding to the present-day U.S. states of Pennsylvania and Delaware to Penn. To offset debts, he owed Penn’s father, the admiral and politician Sir William Penn. The following year, Penn left England and sailed up Delaware Bay and the Delaware River, where he founded Philadelphia on the river’s western bank. And he said this, a good evil cannot sanctify evil means, nor must we ever do evil that good may come of it. And that is William Penn. Our let’s see, let’s get over here to our bill of the day. I went to a bill that we’ve got a good one out there. It’s probably not going to see the light of day, but the sponsors on this. Let’s see here. Oh, I’m on the wrong day. Hold on here just a second here. And I wanted to click into that is here we go. And that is, it is House Bill 26-1021, Second Amendment Protection Act. And the sponsors on this are Brandy Bradley and Max Brooks, who are two of our warriors. They’ll be receiving recognition at our event on Thursday night from the Colorado Union of Taxpayers. And this House Bill 26-1021 is really going in and trying to protect our Second Amendment rights. It’s pretty extensive if you look at it. And it’s called the Second Amendment Protection Act. And thank you to Brandi Bradley and Max Brooks for bringing this forward. And it repeals various state laws related to firearms and other weapons. Specifically, the bill repeals provisions concerning… And then it goes through a whole litany of things. And, you know, I think this is probably, as I look at it, there’s probably, goodness, 20, 25 different pieces there. This is a really a good, good synopsis of what has happened regarding our Second Amendment issues. Here in Colorado. And so be sure and check that out. House Bill 26, 1021 and good for Brandy Bradley, Representative Bradley and Representative Max Brooks for bringing forth this extensive piece of legislation. Regarding headlines. As we are looking at what’s happening in Minneapolis, and the images coming out of Minneapolis regarding ICE are certainly troubling. And The images, as they say, a picture’s worth a thousand words. And so we’re seeing – I’m just going to go to the big picture. I really think that this is an insurrection regarding the United States of America. And – It’s messy. It’s extremely messy. But the big, big picture is, is that there has been this assault upon our American idea, our American middle class for a long, long time. And I think that we were we hopefully we are making progress. It’s it goes to. And this huge transfer of wealth, Jenny had sent over to me a video that we’ll talk about a little bit tomorrow regarding the Great Reset and climate change. This has been a monumental wealth transfer from the middle class of America to the elites, to other countries. and to programs ostensibly to support those that are less fortunate. And it’s been this huge wealth transfer against the American middle class. And that’s really, the American idea is at a very dangerous time right now. And so those in Minneapolis that are fomenting this destruction and the protection of people that have come here illegally, I believe it’s really orchestrated. And I do believe that there are people that are being paid to do these protests illegally. So we’re at a very dangerous time in our country. Well, thank you. It’s great being with you again. This is the first full week of the legislature, so you might say they’re really in gear now, sort of, kind of.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes, they are in gear. And, oh, I tell you, Kevin.
SPEAKER 19 :
Yeah, well, the question is what direction are they headed? Yeah, yeah. It hasn’t changed much.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah. The direction is not good. But I do really appreciate the cut. Colorado Union of Taxpayers is nonpartisan. We look at these issues at how they affect the taxpayer. Protecting Tabor, Colorado’s Taxpayers Bill of Rights, property rights, and parental educational rights, parental rights. And as we are looking at this legislation that’s coming down the pike, I’m really concerned about it. But I do want to say congratulations to all of our legislators that will be receiving awards this Thursday night and really do appreciate them standing in the gap.
SPEAKER 19 :
Yes. Yes. I, I met with some legislators just last night and, and, uh, it’s good to see some folks who really understand what’s happening. And my, um, encouragement to them was to stay the course, to not give into the, um, you know, the mainstream thought down capital. And actually their response was, it’s unbelievable. Um, Some of their colleagues who are definitely headed in the wrong direction. Let me explain this a little bit. I still work with the Republican Study Committee of Colorado, and we had a little study session with Rob Nadelson, who’s a nationally recognized constitutional authority, And he was just talking about some basic principles of constitutional law, the fact that our state government and our federal government are established on constitutions that identify what their authority is and is not. And the legislators in response to this said, but you don’t understand. Well, he didn’t really say you don’t understand because everybody in the room did understand that. A good number of the legislators, mostly on the other side of the aisle, probably almost exclusively, couldn’t care less what the Constitution says. They just are down there to make law, you know, as they see best without any real guide and direction. And that’s one of the core problems we have today is we’ve sent – we, the people of Colorado – or the election system, and that’s another discussion, have sent down to the Capitol a legislative body that has very little respect for the constitutional principles of our government, either at the state level or the federal level. And what we see is what we’ve gotten out of that, which is anything goes, and everything’s up for grabs, and Anyway, I’ll kind of slow down a little bit, but yes, I’m so grateful that CUT is there and honoring the champions for common sense, limited government, moral values, and just the idea that truth really matters still.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, truth does matter. And there is so much deception and corruption that is occurring in our country right now. I look at this whole thing up in Minneapolis and trying to sift through all this. And Kevin… Several things. First of all, I know through our refugee resettlement with NGOs since at least the early 2000s, if not before, we have brought people in under refugee status or asylee status, unaccompanied minor status, and brought people in to our country and put them on government assistance. And some of these people may have continued on and started businesses. But the idea that we would bring people in and immediately put them on government assistance is – and this was legal. This was through your nongovernmental organizations. But then in addition to bring all of these people in, let all these people come in across the border – And put them on government assistance. This is such a huge wealth transfer from everyday hardworking Americans. And it also opened up tremendous opportunity for corruption, which we are seeing with just the tip of the iceberg, I think, with what has been found with the Somali community in Africa. And this has been a huge wealth transfer from everyday, hardworking middle America to others, I think, Kevin Lumberg.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, yes, I agree with you. Now, I would add one other element, and that is that this creates fundamental changes in our cultural values because the whole system was set up with smoke and mirrors, you might say, as far as what was happening. In other words, the Biden administration that’s really – primarily responsible for this even though it’s been going on for a very long time i was down with the republican study committee in 2013 on the texas border and this this was back when obama was president and you know he he claimed to be tough on on um um on on protecting the border but in fact The policies he had in place was completely hands-off. The federal government wasn’t stopping anything. And in that particular year, they had what we thought was a pretty large number back then, about a quarter of a million people crossed the border. in the spring so the state of texas got tough on it and said well the federal government won’t do anything we will and they did crack down and they they just put boots on the ground and eyes in the sky on the border and they they couldn’t actually arrest anybody but they would call the border patrol who would then go and do something and just that surveillance that occurred shut down the border in texas And we went down there in Nepal, and there was no activity. But it wasn’t because of Obama’s practices, because he wouldn’t do anything. As a matter of fact, the control center that the state of Texas set up was in a National Guard armory. But the federal government was charging the state for the rental of that facility because they wouldn’t have anything to do with actual enforcement of border policies. Now, that’s back in Obama’s time. Fast forward to Biden gets in and he and his administration just makes it a free for all. And so instead of hundreds of thousands of people coming across the border, we discover millions are crossing. And all of this has contributed to a complete cultural change of attitude. You bring in people who first have been given a free ticket and are given a free ride when they get there. And it’s inevitable that you’ll end up with the corruption and just the complete destruction of the rule of law and the cultural values that we’ve had for individual liberty and personal responsibility. They just turn it on its head. I applaud the president’s attempt to, one, stop the flow from the border, which he has successfully done. But now to fix the problem that we’ve already inherited from the previous administrations of, you know, you’ve got to clean out all of these problems that are now even up in the, you know, in the far north in Minnesota. And in Denver, in Aurora, in New York City, just, you know, it goes on and on and on on what has happened. And a good example of the cultural change is the recent mayoral election in New York City, where now they’ve put somebody in as mayor. who shares the values that have been corrupting our country to such a great degree. So we’ve got a lot of rooting out to occur, and we have to do it. I’ll add this one final thing. Within the context of the law, so I’m not arguing for anything that would do anything, but simply follow the laws that we have, which… The president and Department of Homeland Security is doing to the best of their ability to hold everybody accountable, including ICE agents, to follow the law. But if they are, yeah, it’s a tough job, and some things are going to happen. And unfortunately, a couple of people up in Minnesota have said, that lost their life because they really lost their mind on what they were doing to prevent the legal authority of the federal government to actually deport the bad guys.

Kevin Lumberg. with these open borders, the changing of our, the fabric of our society. And another thing that I just, I was driving down Broadway in South Denver yesterday, and in Centennial, I looked off to the left at like Broadway and Dry Creek, and there is a massive apartment complex complex, just I would say maybe five or six buildings, four or five stories high. And I’m seeing this all over. Our metro area. And I can’t figure out where all the people are going to be coming from to live in all of these apartment buildings. And then as I look at legislation, we actually have people on both sides of the aisle. There is a bill, not sure if you’ve taken a real look at it, which is, let’s see, this was one of our cut engaged bills. and it was Senate Bill 26001, Workforce Housing and Housing Tax Credit. As we looked at it from CUT’s standpoint, they actually are having, let me get to it, they actually have a tax credit that people don’t even have to be involved in the project that they get that tax credit. We’re out of our minds right now, I think.
SPEAKER 19 :
I’ll have to take a second look at that one. Yeah, because that does sound quite troubling. You know, there’s this, what do they call it, 15-minute series or something like that, where they want everybody to not… not be mobile basically to not have cars and if you look at this this is kind of a subtle change that they’ve made the zoning uh rules and and other things where where they’re they’re not requiring adequate parking spaces for these high density uh units um you know apartment buildings uh with the idea that well we don’t want people to be able to drive we want them to take advantage of transit Well, transit makes sense in New York City, where you’ve got this intense concentration of millions of people in a very tight space. And people find that the subways and trains and things like that work pretty well. But, you know, I’ve heard… some discussion on Paris, which apparently has a great transit system, but it’s a very tight little space of ground, and the Denver metro area is like literally 100 times bigger in geography, and it’s just completely unrealistic that you should be able to drive a bus or take an Uber. I mean, you know, If you take a drive-sharing system like that, you can get around, but it becomes very expensive if you’re doing it two or three times a day. And very often, that’s what you have to do. You get in your car, you drive to the bank, you get in your car, you drive to your friend’s house across town, you go to a special meeting somewhere else. You can’t do this without your own means of transportation. It’s called a car. And they’re trying to choke that down and create these little, I don’t know, I kind of see it in terms of what some of the authors of the past who are trying to warn us on this, like Huxley’s Brave New World or Orwell’s 1984. I you know and you there there are several authors who look in the future and said what if the government tried to control everybody’s life and became basically took your liberty away and instead gave you your little living space and took your ability to really do what we we’ve learned to do which is the principles of liberty here in our country arm And that’s what I see. So that bill you described to me sounds an awful lot like that mindset. And I’m pretty nervous with that. Now, I like some reduction. Let me put it this way. I like it when there are bills to reduce our tax burden. But tax credits are used as a government incentive to really manipulate where the economy is going and what individuals are doing. And this one sounds like a wholesale head in the wrong direction for the wrong reasons.
SPEAKER 05 :
And unfortunately, they talked one of the Republicans to putting their name on this bill as a sponsor.
SPEAKER 19 :
Oh, that’s… That’s pretty easy because if you, you know, you’re down there and they’re just hammering all the time and, you know, we’ve got to do this, we’ve got to do that. And this is why last night with a handful of legislators that I was meeting with, I said, you know, stay true to your principles. Don’t look long and hard at legislation and And don’t just accept the standard norm of, oh, it feels good, let’s vote for it. Legislators need to be on guard against this, particularly in that environment where all of the special interests are trying to push in their direction. I learned very quickly that most of that’s a really bad idea. um you know keep your eye on on the the uh immutable truths of life that really i i find within scripture as being my my first and best guide but but then concerning our government governments go to the constitution look at the preamble uh you know what are the what’s the reason for government in the first place and then proceed from there And it’s life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, which is really a replacement for the ability to own and control your own property. So life, liberty, and property, as it’s stated in the 14th Amendment, which they quickly put in after slavery went away. That’s why they didn’t put it in initially. is they didn’t want to conflate that we’re supporting slavery in any way. So if people could be considered property, you couldn’t do that. But once slavery went away, it’s life, liberty, and property. Preserving those for the individual so that we can do all in our pursuit of happiness rather than the government’s definition of where we belong.

Well, and, yeah, do take a look at this, Senate Bill 26001, because from the analysis that the team did from CUT, it says the bill further gives the county power to distribute tax incentives to persons who have no financial interest in the housing.
SPEAKER 19 :
I’m a little baffled by that one. I’ve got to dig pretty deep.
SPEAKER 05 :
We’re going to have to talk about that one some more.
SPEAKER 19 :
I’ve got a question for you. What happened to fiscal notes? Have you found them on the website, the state legislature website?

Hold on here. Let me just check and see what I can. This Bill Track 50, what we have is really.
SPEAKER 19 :
While you’re looking at that, let me explain it to the people. Because a fiscal note is something that the economists prepare for every bill. And I have found through my legislative experience, and after I’ve been out of the legislature, that short of just reading the bill itself, it’s the most valuable document that you have as a reference tool. Because they don’t just say, well, it may cost this much. And you can’t trust the dollars and cents as being really accurate. But the economists try to really describe the bill and its impact and that document uh is the first thing i go to to try to unpack what’s in a bill and it’s been available through the website but not this year not that i found and i’m troubled by that i uh it’s it’s a significant lack of transparency now fiscal notes are still prepared i’ve talked to legislators who say oh yeah yeah we have them but I’m not seeing them on the website yet. And for CUT, I’m sure that your people rely on that significantly because it’s the first place you start in analyzing a bill.
SPEAKER 05 :
Definitely. And so quick perusal from Bill Track 50, it says at this particular point in time, there’s 117 bills that have been introduced. It says bills without a fiscal note are 81. But I’ll need to go in and do a little bit more research and see, because I think you’re saying that you’re just not seeing the fiscal note on that.
SPEAKER 19 :
I haven’t seen a single fiscal note listed. Now, maybe I’ve missed it and they just because 81, they’re actually, now, that 117 number includes resolutions, so they’re not being totally accurate there. But if you look at actual bills, there have been 38 in the Senate and I want to say 68 in the House, something like that. Anyway, I haven’t found one, and I alert you to that and to other people that Well, it’s even a little disconcerting that the economists have only come up with a handful of fiscal notes. Apparently, 81 don’t have it. That means about 25 do. Anyway. So far, I haven’t seen them on the website, and I’m a little concerned right now.

Well, we are in the final week of a full-on campaign signature gathering uh and we have been working hard for several months now to put you know we’re talking about legislation well if the legislature can’t do it right maybe we the people need to exercise our constitutional right our colorado constitutional right to it initiate laws ourselves. And that’s what we’re working on. I’m sure most of your listeners are aware we’re dealing with the whole transgender ideology that has taken over so much of our state and trying to protect the kids and the responsibility and the authority of parents to look after their kids and protect women in women’s sports programs and and shut down on increased penalties for child sex trafficking that occurs in this state. I’m very excited that so many people are kicking in at the last minute. It’s kind of the inevitable way it works. We’re right on the edge as to whether we’re going to have adequate signatures or not. We passed the 75% level a couple of weeks ago, and now it’s that final rush to the end. More churches are stepping up. At the last point, we’ll probably be gathering signatures a little bit into February, but by the middle of February, we’ve got to have everything in and bundle that up and deliver it to the Secretary of State’s office. So I encourage people to, if you haven’t been involved in this, get involved. There’s still just a little bit of time left. If your church hasn’t, or other organization hasn’t done an active signature gathering campaign on their own, because that’s where we can, you know, not get 10 or 12 signatures, but maybe a few hundred in one event, or a few thousand for some of the larger churches. Some have just got stepped up and just done incredible. Um, but we still need everybody to be pushing to the very end, protect kids. Colorado.org is the website. And, and that that’s, that’s kind of the open portal to, to get engaged and get involved. And next week I’ll, I’ll, uh, you know, we’ll, we’ll be in the February and, and that’ll, that’ll be kind of like overtime in a sense, but we, we need to get as, if you’ve got some petitions, um, You need to get them notarized and then get them back to us at the end of this week, really, because we’ve got to start, well, I should say finish processing. We’ve been processing tens of thousands of signatures, and yet… We’ve got much more to do. And people are doing it everywhere over the state. I mean, it’s so exciting when I go on some of the Zoom calls we have to stay in touch with our captains and our circulators. And, man, every time I hear of people that are doing creative things with events all over Texas, You know, just going to a shopping mall and collecting signatures there, which you have the perfect legal right to, even though sometimes the local authorities don’t understand that. So we have to bring them the law and say, see, this is what we can do. It was perfect. proven that I can go into a public place of accommodation like that and carry these petitions and ask people if they want to sign them.
SPEAKER 05 :
So, well, I want to, it is a monumental effort. And the board is you, Kevin Lundberg, Aaron Lee, Mark Spangler. Patty McKernan, Jeremy Goodall, Lori Gimmelstein, and Shannon Thomas. And then also want to give a shout out to Yvonne Paez, who has been organizing all of the petitions, because she’s done a great job on that as well. So, Kevin.

Well, I have a petition. I committed that I would get one petition done. And I hadn’t focused on it because I’ve been busy with other stuff. So I started a week ago Sunday. And I have completed one set of petitions. And I did get another petition. And so I will be over my 40 that I had committed to. So I wanted to let you know that I accomplished that.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, thank you very much. You and hundreds of other people have have done that as well. And you’re right. If you if you tell Yvonne, I got to finish. She says, great. Here’s another set.

This is true. This is true.

And, you know, what amazes me is when I go into some areas, you know, some groups that I think, oh, you’ve all signed it. But I bring my petitions and I discover maybe half of them haven’t even heard of it yet. So we’ve been working hard and you’ve been doing all you can. And so many other people have been doing so much, so many places. This is a high bar. It’s a very difficult thing to to actually get something on the ballot through a volunteer effort. Yeah, we see a lot of initiatives, but but almost all of them. are just a rich man’s game because if you have a million dollars you too can get something put on the ballot right that’s literally what it takes to to just get to that stage of the process and then if you’re really serious about it you better have another 10 million to promote it right but but these issues are such that the average citizen knows this is the right thing to do. And yeah, when we get on the ballot, when we actually qualify for that, there’s going to be a whole new challenge before us to communicate because I saw just recently there’s a very active group in Colorado i’ll not name them i’ll just say that they’re they work in the opposite direction that we do on this you know they promote the transgender ideology and they think this is just wonderful to have have these uh child mutilating surgeries available for kids here in colorado and have the state pay for it and they’re the ones behind all the legislative efforts to go that direction and they are gearing up to to counter our efforts i i saw they sent out a a letter to their supporters and said, well, it looks like they might get these on the ballot. And we’ve got to do everything we can to stop that. Well, we’ve got our work cut out all the way through to November, but this is a battle worth engaging in, and it’s really a battle for the heart and the soul of Colorado. It’s going to spread out into everything. You know, I just saw a bill this morning that’s been introduced that’s aimed at promoting all of the immunizations and all of the policies that have that have really, I mean, we discovered through the whole COVID thing that there are two sides of the story on immunizations. And parents need to have the ultimate authority and responsibility. And I applaud the president’s secretary of health and human services, RFP Jr., who I had an interesting conversation with once back in 2021, on the whole immunization or no 2020 it was um yeah it was on the immunization we were both testifying on a bill in the legislature here in colorado and anyway this bill which is senate bill 32 for this year is going to jettison all connections with the cdc which rfk jr is actually making more honest uh for vaccines and it looks like it’s written by the pharmaceutical industry because it it it takes away uh liability from anybody in involved in the pharma world it authorizes pharmacists to have direct prescriptive authority for vaccines pharmacists not medical doctors and it it’s just More of the same of what we’re seeing, trying to cram down our throat what the government policies have been. And since they don’t think the federal government’s going to be in their back pocket, they’re moving to authorize all of the stuff to continue here in Colorado and for the state of Colorado to continue to fund it. I don’t know where they’re going to find the money, but while I do, actually, it’s your pocket and my pocket, one way or the other. But this is why we’re doing what we’re doing with the Protect Kids Colorado effort is we’re taking back, as I said to another person who’s a real advocate in the initiative process at a title board hearing last year, actually, sat down beside him and said, welcome to the new legislature. That’s a tough job, but we’re doing what we can. And Hopefully, it will yield a new legislature who will get with the picture that we, the people, don’t approve of what’s happening down at the Capitol. And, Kim, you and your team. and uh i and and others are working hard to be the watchman on the wall to say you know to the people of colorado we need a better path and we need to get engaged and and yeah right here right now go to protectkidscolorado.org do what you can in the next few days And then join us shoulder to shoulder as we move forward to reinvent Colorado. Or as I like to hear a lot of people say, it was Peter Bode, who I think came up with this at first, who was running for the House. But a lot of people say, let’s make Colorado Colorado again.

Our word of the day is malcontent, and it’s M-A-L-C-O-N-T-E-N-T, and I chose it because it was in the chapters that we were reading from the Prince, and it could be someone dissatisfied with existing conditions or discontented, uneasy, dissatisfied, especially dissatisfied with government. I would say I’m a malcontent with what is happening down at the Colorado State Legislature. And when Kevin Lundberg in Hour One was talking about the rule of law and the fact that, as he was meeting with some legislators last evening, that they said that there are those down at the Statehouse that have no regard for the Constitution. So they are putting into law things that are unconstitutional. And our real foundation is the Constitution. So I know that ideally then the courts are supposed to be the bulwark regarding unconstitutional law, but we need to be electing people that will follow the Constitution. So I went to William Penn for our quote of the day because, as I mentioned to Joe, I was really troubled by these chapters in the prints that we’re going to be talking about. And so I found this from William Penn. He was born in 1644, died in 1718. He was an English writer, theologian, religious thinker. and an influential Quaker who founded Pennsylvania and also Philadelphia, and he said this, he said, a good evil cannot sanctify evil means, nor must we ever do evil that good may come of it. So we’ve gotta be focused on And again, William Penn said this all these years ago. He said it in 1693 in Some Fruits of Solitude. And so I’m going to ask John Bozen with Bozen Law what he thinks about all this. Wonderful sponsor of the show. If you’ve been injured, you’ll want to reach out to them. I think it’s excellent advice. You know, we just I mean, we have to always just follow. Well, I don’t want to get too far. Follow Christ and do what is right. And it’s easy to become distracted because Satan is always on that side using whatever tools he can. knowing us and knowing our weaknesses and trying to get us to go the wrong direction. So it’s praying for that ability to discern and know what the truth is and do the right things regarding the truth. Kevin Lumberg and the conversation about protected children, I mean, that should be a nonpartisan issue. And I’m so happy to see churches starting to get involved, take that up, run with that, So there’s some good things happening, but we have to be on guard and we have to watch that legislature and challenge
SPEAKER 05 :
every single time when they cross that line which is as you know very frequently now i do know as president of the colorado union of taxpayers so john what that means is on friday evening after everything’s been posted for the bills that will be heard the next week in hearing uh It is crazy what’s going on down at the Statehouse. And sometimes, if you look at the cut ratings report at the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, you will see everybody has a score. And I will tell you that the Democrats, this Democrat Party is not the Democrat Party of your grandpa and your grandma. They are radical activists. And unfortunately, what happens is, is they will run some bills and sometimes they get Republicans to put their names on some bad bills. I had referred to this one, this Workforce Housing and Housing Tax Credit. Unfortunately, they talked a Republican to getting his name on that particular bill.
SPEAKER 11 :
It happens, it shouldn’t, and those Republicans are not Republicans. I just, I mean, they’re not conservatives. They’re not what we need in terms of folks fighting for us. I, Kim, have recently started, and I say just very recently, studying radicalization, how people become radicalized, and how we can pull people back from the cliff. I was having a conversation with my wife about people that we know that have moved or have lived in Denver and we’ve seen over time this radicalization take place. And so we’re trying to come at it from a little bit different angle, pick off a person and time and do what we can. And I’ll keep you posted on what I’m learning and if we are successful. But it’s trying to just take people back from where they’ve been taken and studying and trying to figure out how does this happen? And it’s a process. Clearly, it’s a process where people who live in a certain part of the state or in a city that over time, we’ve seen them change. And we got to figure out how to bring them back.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, I am with you on this. I’ve been thinking about the same kind of things, John, because I’ve seen this radicalization and really this hatred that is being fomented in our country. And so we are in an epic battle right now in this battle for hearts and minds, John.
SPEAKER 11 :
We are, and we have to win it, and we will. And, yeah, we’re in a unique place, Kim, and you’re in a unique place. When folks won’t tune in to hear what you have to say because they hear that you’re a conservative and that you believe in the Constitution, it’s tough. But we have to get people listening. We have to get people listening. opened up just that little bitty tiny crack where they can hear something that maybe from their past rings true and brings them just a little bit out of the dark. A little bit at a time.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, we’re going to continue to speak truth into this because that is the North Star. And, of course, the truth is based on Christ. And so we will continue to speak truth into that. Regarding John Bozen and Bozen Law, if people have been injured, they need to reach out to you really as soon as possible, John.

Time is always of the essence. The sooner I can talk with someone, the sooner we can give them the education and the information they need to make sure they don’t have a misstep. And without that information, it’s almost inevitable someone’s going to say something, someone’s going to have a conversation with an insurance person that comes back and bites them. Or they’ll sign releases and allow information to be provided that should not have been provided to somebody that is clearly Trying to limit a claim and what someone may be entitled to. So best thing to do if someone’s involved in a motor vehicle collision, any kind of a situation where they’re hurt and they should not have been because somebody did something or didn’t do something that they should have done. they need to call us at 303-999-9999. The sooner the better. And if you know someone out there who’s suffered an injury or a loss, encourage them to call us. Again, as quickly as possible.

I have not tasted all the calzones in the world, but I think that they have the best in the world. So we got the young guys in here, and that is Producer Joe and Producer Luke. We’re going through our book discussion on The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. It was written in 1513, published in 1532, right? That is correct. Okay, Luke, this is the book that you selected. Yes. And on the back of mine, it says the end justifies the means. And to be Machiavellian, I looked up the word Machiavelli, and it basically means to be deceitful from kind of what I am seeing. And so I really was troubled by chapters 18 and 19. So walk us through this.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, so, again, just as a little reset, because it’s been a while. You know, we get a month between these, sometimes at the beginning of the month, sometimes at the end of the month. So just as a little historical sort of refresher, Machiavelli was kind of the guy. He was the advisor at the time. So it’s not this… He’s not some dude… Hold up in his home scribbling down his ideas. He was actively involved in government for a lot of principalities rulers in this space and in this time. And the prince comes as an almost tongue in cheek. This guidebook he writes because he wrote The Prince after a period of his own imprisonment where the people he had been advising for kind of locked him up and threw away the key for a minute. He was a little angry about that, I think. He was a little upset that he was treated this way. So he wrote this book as a… This is a gift for you, kind of almost sarcastic in a way. Here’s this gift I am giving you about how to be a good ruler. And really what he’s doing in the context of this text is breaking down what those in power are actively doing and have actively been doing for some time. So… This ends justify the means this word to be a Machiavellian is almost misattributed in the sense that that was never the intent of his work. It has since kind of become the interpretation of his work. So it’s a little difficult to say what’s going to be more or less true in the modern context. When you’re looking at chapter 18, for example, I think when I had mentioned it in our text, which chapters we were covering, I had misremembered its content. Rereading through it the other day and then getting a refresher this morning, chapter 18, I think, kind of embodies a lot of this idea as well. Chapter 18 talks about how a ruler uses the word prince because that’s… kind of primarily the individuals who are in need of learning how to rule. So that’s who the book is attributed, or given direction to. Talks about how a prince should keep faith. Let’s see, the actual chapter title is Concerning the Way in Which Princes Should Keep Faith. My translation may be different than yours. The original is not English, so I think we’ve come into a couple instances where our words are a little different. Right. And he goes on to talk about something that I’ve mentioned a couple times previously, where he says that it is important for a ruler to have these sort of good virtues in order to… have these qualities which are seen as beneficial. If I can pull the exact quote, one of those moments where I wish I had my physical book to highlight in, but it’s very nice. He goes on to talk about, you know, like I said, the qualities a person should have, but then he also mentions that it is beneficial better to appear to have these qualities. It is better to appear and present as though you are this almost like magnanimous good authority with the capacity to do what is necessary even at the cost of those things. And that the appearance of a certain way is almost better than being a certain way because you can play both sides.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right. I had highlighted this, but it is necessary to be able to disguise this character well and to be a great feigner and dissembler. And men are so simple and so ready to obey present necessities. The one who deceives will always find those who allow themselves to be deceived.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes, which is a great quote. It makes me sad. Well, you can see it. I mean, he goes on to, at the end of this chapter, talk about some historical evidence of actual rulers whose kingdoms and the areas they have ruled have kind of either not done these things and have since fallen or have done these things and succeeded. But you can see it in the modern world, too, in the sense that, When you have two individuals who are fighting for position, for power, for authority, the individual who is willing to lie, cheat, and deceive is going to have a mathematical advantage. Whether you like it or not, the fact of the matter is that if someone is willing to go outside of the rules to win, well then they have more resources available to win. You can be, Kim, the greatest grandmaster chess player in the entire world. You’re going to lose to a nine-year-old if the nine-year-old’s stealing the pieces when you’re not looking. So it’s this idea that, again, Machiavelli is revealing what rulers do and actively do. Again, it comes across in the form of advice, saying this is what you should do. Really, he’s saying this is what they have always done.
SPEAKER 21 :
Hey, Joe, what’s your thoughts on this? It just seems very much like a lack of trust in humanity. They go off the assumption that humanity is bad and that they’re always going to do the right thing and be self-interested. And really, you can kind of see it in present day as well. There’s a lack of trust in humanity. So we regulate it. We put it into laws and legislature to make it happen.
SPEAKER 05 :
Interesting. Okay, so again, this is in chapter, what is this, 18, it says, it is not therefore necessary for Prince to have the above-named qualities, and these would be good qualities, but it’s very necessary to seem to have them. Yes. I would even be bold to say that to possess them and always observe them is dangerous, but to appear to possess them is useful. Thus, it is well to seem pious, faithful, humane, religious.” sincere, and also to be so, but you must have the mind so watchful that when it is needful to be otherwise, you may be able to change to the opposite qualities. Luke, I think I’m sad because I think his observations are correct. Yes. However, it makes me sad because I see this playing out in our state right now and our state’s in the dumps.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, you see it a little bit of everywhere. And I’ll give a little pushback against kind of what Joe said in the sense that I do think his observation is correct because I think it is – Well, I think it’s ignorant to assume that most people on the whole are bad, right? Any broad statement like that’s, I think, going to be kind of in bad faith. But I also think the inverse can be said, where I think it’s also a little ignorant to say most people on the whole are good. Again, any of those broad statements… It can get a little troubling. I think people have the capacity to do both. And Machiavelli, in this instance, is mentioning that in order to be an effective ruler, to appear to have these qualities. And, you know, what Joe is saying is this idea that there’s an assumption that people are bad. I think he goes on to mention, man, I wish I had highlighted it, where he says, you know, people can be both, so you have to play to both sides. Machiavelli is mentioning to appear to have these qualities, and in some instances, to have these qualities is good. He’s saying to be these things is beneficial. He’s saying… to only be these things and to not see the inverses where the folly comes from conversely in the next chapter he talks about to be cruel to you know to be the inverse of these qualities on the whole is also not good it’s Almost code switching to be able to, or rather, he’s revealing that good rulers, people who appear to be capable and competent in their rule, are very likely switching between these two modes as it is necessary to enact said rule.
SPEAKER 05 :
So he wrote this basically two plus centuries before the founding of America.
SPEAKER 09 :
Quite a while ago.
SPEAKER 05 :
And America was founded on this idea. They understood human nature. But they thought, what could happen if we had a limited government and that people would have self-government? But it would mean that they would have to be active. in their government, but that you would keep government limited. And what would happen if people had the freedom to go after their hopes and dreams? Well, America happened. And the founders understood that That mankind – we’re fallen, obviously, that mankind is fallen. They understood that. But yet they tried to put in place something that would keep that fallen nature somewhat constrained. And it’s not constrained anymore right now. It’s – We have an illusion of self-governance right now. We don’t have self-governance right now.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, I think I would agree. I think we’ve had a really bad habit over the past handful of probably decades, I say, of kind of allowing ourselves to fall back into this weird version of like almost pseudo-monarchy. This, we’ve elected our own oppressors to a certain degree, which I find greatly troubling.
SPEAKER 05 :
We really have here in Colorado as I’m watching all of this legislation. So let’s go to break. So do you want to comment on this to start off with, Producer Joe? No, you guys go ahead. Okay, Luke, your thoughts on this?
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, this one, despite being a much longer chapter, half of it’s kind of historical, a historical reference point where he goes on and he talks about how bad it is or how detrimental it is for humanity. anyone in a position of power, rulers especially, to be despised and hated. Again, about half the chapter is kind of historical framing of that argument. He talks a lot about the issues and examples that are relevant to him. It’s interesting, we were talking about it during the break. He says, here’s a modern example or here’s a recent example of people who have failed because they did not apply these principles. And again, his modern is our 400 years ago, but somehow a lot of the principles still apply, which is a little concerning. The content of the chapter itself is pretty simple in the sense that he goes on to say that a ruler really only has to do a couple of things to avoid being despised and hated. Stay away from people’s property and stay away from people’s women. That’s like the big one. Do not interfere with the property and the possessions of the subjects or those you rule. And stay away from their women, which was a bit of a bigger issue back then, I imagine. He then goes on to say that you should try and appeal to the people and the soldier, and he separates those two ideas, that your citizens, those whom you rule over, should be ruled or treated separately than the soldiers you have in your employ. Because soldiers operate and function significantly differently. He goes on to mention that the citizens on the whole prefer peace. They prefer a lack of wars and citizens prefer a state of safety and security. And he goes on to mention that. soldiers will, on the whole, prefer the opposite. They prefer ambition. They prefer action. And he goes on to mention that when action isn’t taken against a foreign nation, mentioning that if you do not give your soldiers direction against an enemy state, then the soldiers will kind of turn internal, which is also an issue. And I think… again when he’s talking about a lot of this um We’re talking about Machiavelli having written this as a way to peel back the curtain and show what rulers are doing. And he does, in a way, mention that, hey, if you don’t have an external force, the soldiers are going to go against you. People want peace. The soldiers want ambition. But either party is capable of acting against the prince if they feel too slighted against, which is where he’s talking about… just how dangerous it is to be hated and despised. To be hated and despised isn’t some ephemeral, oh, I don’t like you. When he’s talking about this, and in his historical references, kind of at the second half of this chapter, he says, if you’re hated and despised, they’ll kill you. They will kill you and give your position to someone else. Again, this is at a time where this is much more frequent, and I believe one of the historical examples Someone was in power. They didn’t like him, killed him, replaced him with someone else. That guy also didn’t do super well, killed him and replaced him with someone else. They were kind of just murdering their way until they got to someone they really liked. But I think the point of it is, is that both the soldiers and the people have the capacity to enact change if they are slighted too heavily. This idea that in the event a ruler… is being cruel towards the people or is being cruel towards the soldiers, either of those individuals can and will act against you, especially in a scenario in which both have felt slighted. If both of those groups feel that they have been taken advantage of or have been acted cruelly towards, they are fully capable and will do something about it.
SPEAKER 05 :
So Luke, this whole thing regarding despised and hated makes me think of a Trump derangement syndrome. That there are people that can’t see past their hatred for Trump.
SPEAKER 09 :
He is a very divisive character. He is.
SPEAKER 05 :
I think when it comes to this… So question, how is Biden or Obama unifying?
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, I think Biden was also very divisive. I think Obama was a bit better. I didn’t like a lot of his policies, but regardless of my stance on his sort of political action, he was a very charismatic, collected man. He was very… Almost a little populist in the way he approached the presentation of his character. Very like a man of the people, which I think presents and sells very well. For example, Donald Trump, you can agree or disagree with his policies all you want. I think it’s… pretty universal even among a lot of his voter base. The dude’s divisive. He’s a very controversial figure. Again, whether you agree with his policies or not, he is controversial. Interestingly enough, talking about the prince, he goes on to mention that it’s important to keep good allies. And to insult your allies or to take action against your allies can be very dangerous for a ruler. And I think you see that a little bit in Trump with this Greenland thing, where Trump says, I want Greenland. And NATO goes, what are you talking about? And he goes, well, I actually really want Greenland. We should take it. And I think… One of the positions I’ve heard, just to give some examples, are people saying, art of the deal. Say you want to take all this, set the price very, very high, and then negotiate and work down from there is, I think, the strategy being employed. Well, the strategy might work in business. I think the strategy fails catastrophically in government because that comes at the cost of the goodwill of your allies. When NATO is sending troops into Greenland because they are genuinely worried you might do something about it, you’re kind of burning a lot of goodwill there. Again, whether you agree with the policy is irrelevant. even if you agree that we should take greenland it is very rich in minerals we need to control that sphere for uh you know global and national defense right you can agree with all of those things but i think you can also agree with the idea that angering your allies angering the people you are supposed to be working with is a bad political strategy
SPEAKER 05 :
But they’ve been undercutting us for many, many years.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, I think, you know, saying if you want to come to the table with more economics, right, when Donald Trump as a political figure says, I want to take Greenland. That is an aggressive statement that is from a position of power saying, I’m going to take it. Even if you’re negotiating down back to economics, that initial statement still exists and is present. That initial statement is still going to immediately influence the perception of the people. You become despised and hated by virtue of taking that stance in the beginning. Even if that’s not what you actually want, it’s a thing you’ve done and said.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. So we need to wrap this up. Actually, one of our listeners said that Obama must have read this book. I think I agree with that as well, because I think that Obama and his policies did so much damage to our country. between him and Biden and the open borders, having people come here that, A, want to hurt us. We should not have let that happen. B, coming here for free stuff. That should not have happened. When I talk with you two guys and all of us about affordability for middle America, when we look at the wealth transfer that has occurred, and Obama was really behind a lot of that. from our hopes and dreams of our young people and our middle class. And then lastly, if you’ve come to defraud us, whether or not you came and got legal status from refugee resettlement through NGOs or not, You need to go back.
SPEAKER 09 :
And like I said, I do not agree with a lot of what Obama did. I think there’s a lot of similarities in, you know, Biden and Obama and the policies they enacted. But there’s a difference in the presentation of those actions. And it’s in the presentation of those actions that you get the controversy and the controversy that breeds a lot of the issues.
SPEAKER 05 :

SPEAKER 08 :
Thanks, Kim. Thanks for having me on. It’s great being back here. I’ve been here multiple times in the past helping other conservatives get elected and carrying on the fight. And I’ll tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up in Colorado. I’ve been here my whole life. And back when I was younger, Colorado wasn’t so bad. It was actually a really great place to live. And I grew up in Jefferson County. I grew up in the district I’m running for. And I was in Jefferson County School District. It was a really great school district at the time. I can’t say that now. But over the years, I’ve been working for about 15 years. I’ve been working advancing conservative values and Republican values across the state, all over the state. Started out as an intern knocking doors over the years. I’ve probably knocked on 15,000 doors, talking to people, getting out, passing out flyers, stuffing envelopes. I can’t tell you how many different things I’ve done, just grassroots, on the ground, and finally got one of my first jobs. On the official side, working in the Colorado State Senate back in 2018. And I actually was there when we handed the gavel from then-President Grantham to incoming President Garcia. And that’s when we lost our majority in the Senate. And ever since then, from 2019, and I’ve been there ever since, I’ve watched them systematically take away our majority. Our rights attack our Constitution and our Colorado Constitution as well. And speaking of Constitution, this is something that a lot of our members don’t know. Colorado’s Constitution only mandates that our General Assembly members have one job and no one has been able to answer that and I had to do the work on that. We as members, as legislators, have one job and that’s balance the budget and go home. So a lot of this extra stuff that they’re doing over the years, And systematically, by taking down Tabor, inventing all these crazy bills that come out of thin air that lobbyists want to put out there, we’re not supposed to be doing that. We’re supposed to be balancing the budget, and we can’t even do that. So going from growing up here, growing up on a – on a dairy farm younger i’ve been involved in ag my entire life ag is the is the district that’s where i’m i’m on a farm myself watching them go after oil and gas watching them now going after ag are two top industries and then they want to give it to social programs uh free day care and so when you systematically remove some of these top industries in colorado how do you backfill that And so when I was in special session and I was there on the floor right next to our members watching them do some of the most egregious stuff I’ve ever seen, I didn’t think the governor would go this far. Second Amendment rights, transgender bills, 1312, 1309. We’ve got 1312 over here with transgender ideals with children. And then over here there’s passing along 1309 that has something to do with the medications. And then if you look at some of the costs that they’re spending on our school board elections. So I was I’ve been mentored and worked with a lot of our members in the House and the Senate. And they said, Kevin, you you you’ve been here for seven sessions now and you kind of know this place perfectly. You know every square inch of this building. You should throw your hat in the ring. And so I went out and formed exploratory committee about six months ago and just been talking to everybody and had great response since then.
SPEAKER 05 :

I do have a great staff of volunteers, young Republicans, that are working diligently for me. And we’re doing really good. And there’s a lot of exciting things coming from the campaign that we just haven’t really discussed publicly.
SPEAKER 05 :
So, Kevin, one of the things that I’ve been really concerned about is the land grabs in rural Colorado, and in particular, Elbert County. Xcel Energy, and they’re not just threatening, but actually using eminent domain to take land. And what would you do about that?
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, first, you have to understand that in the General Assembly, we have 12 senators out of 35 in that branch. And overall, we don’t have any type of majority. But there is consensus that there are Democrats that own property. There’s a lot of Democrats that are starting to realize they didn’t sign up for this. And we have to talk to Democrats on this stuff to get anything out of committee at this point because we’re outnumbered two to five on almost every committee. So it’s being able to identify those members that have a stake. in an issue like that the own property that maybe own several properties at airbnb stuff like that these are the guys that you want to approach and just knowing who those people are is a good way to maybe reach across the aisle and talk to some of them and get them to come and see things that that’s not a constitutional and it’s not good for them and it’s not good for colorado
SPEAKER 05 :
So there’s a lot of bills that are proposed right now. Do you have one that you think is the worst so far?
SPEAKER 08 :
Anything that has to do with children, anything that has to do with anti-constitutional Second Amendment would be a massive one. I was shocked to see that they’re going directly after that. They are going to single-handedly try to get rid of Tabor this session, and I’ve been told that. And that’s our Taxpayer Bill of Rights. And anything that’s going after TABOR is a segue into everything else in the state. As you well know, our General Assembly seems to every year want to pass 750, 800 bills, run all these bills. We’re only supposed to be talking about five per member. I do not understand where these 800 bills that we can’t track, no one can read them, and they do them all in the last month of session. And so that’s why it’s ridiculous that we have to spend 24 hours a day at the Capitol the last several weeks of session. And that’s, I mean, the Democrats control the schedule. So that’s by design. So their playbook is… make us tired, make us overworked, flood us with calls, flood us with media. While they’re doing all of this over here, busy, busy, busy, they’re passing quietly over here. And that’s one thing that I do at the Capitol when I’m there as a senior. Where the noise is, I usually stay away from the noise. And I usually go to the committees where it’s kind of quiet. And that’s usually where the egregious, the real bills that aren’t messaging bills that are The more bills that have teeth to them, that’s usually where they run them. When the noise is loud, check somewhere else.
