SPEAKER 02 :
It’s the Kim Monson Show, analyzing the most important stories.
SPEAKER 07 :
An early childhood taxing district? What on earth is that?
SPEAKER 02 :
The latest in politics and world affairs.
SPEAKER 07 :
I don’t think that we should be passing legislation that is so complicated that people kind of throw up their hands and say, I can’t understand that.
SPEAKER 02 :
Today’s current opinions and ideas.
SPEAKER 07 :
And it’s not fair just because you’re a big business that you get a break on this and the little guy doesn’t.
SPEAKER 02 :
Is it freedom or is it force? Let’s have a conversation.
SPEAKER 07 :
Indeed, let’s have a conversation. And welcome to the Kim Monson Show. Thank you so much for joining us. You’re each treasured, you’re valued, you have purpose. Today, strive for excellence, take care of your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body. My friends, we were made for this moment in history. And thank you to the team. That’s Producer Joe, Luke, Rachel, Zach, Echo, Charlie, Mike, Teresa, Amanda, and all the people here at Crawford Broadcasting. Happy Friday, Producer Joe.
SPEAKER 03 :
Happy Friday, Kim.
SPEAKER 07 :
And we are doing something very fun. I am on location at Effola French Bakery on Lookout Mountain, and they open at 7 o’clock. If you’d like to drop by and say hello, would love to have you do that and have a great Americano coffee here. And I can’t wait to dig into this, as Kurt Gerwitz says, the best chocolate croissant around. And so I’m very excited about that. As many of you know, They need a variance to be able to keep their tiny homes on the property. And it’s crazy. But what has happened is this property is zone commercial. And the Jefferson County commissioners and planning department inspectors said, need more flexibility to allow these tiny homes to be right near where they work. The bakery opens at 7 a.m., but that doesn’t mean they start baking at 7 a.m. They have to start baking early in the morning so they have these croissants for you when you arrive at 7 a.m. And so for them to be able to live near where they work is very simple. It’s just a variance. And so we want to support them and encourage them as they are going after their American dream. It is a French bakery. Rachel, her husband Eric, her sister Ruth are from France. They’re naturalized citizens. They love America. They love the American dream. And we want to make sure that because of very stringent zoning, no flexibility, that they would not be able to go after their American dream. And so we’re very excited to be here on location. I know a number of my buddies are going to be coming up at 7 o’clock. Would love to have you do that as well. So as you know… we search for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force force versus freedom and if something’s a good idea you should not have to force people to do it and it’s not compassionate and it’s not altruistic to take other people’s rights whether or not it’s property freedom livelihood opportunity childhoods or lives via force and force can obviously be a weapon but policy and unpredictable and excessive taxation fear of coercion, compliance, government-induced inflation, and this agenda by the World Economic Forum and globalist elites that basically want to control everything, not only our personal property, but our intangible property, the things that we want to say and think. And there’s this perfect example with the assassination of of charlie kirk all he was doing was speaking his mind and that is why freedom of speech is number one in our bill of rights and george washington said if our freedom of speech is taken away then we will be led like lambs to the slaughter and so we have to continue to have courage and the best antiseptic to tyranny and despotism is truth and clarity. So that’s why we do what we do at the show. And remember, if something’s a good idea, you should not have to force people to do it. And on the show, we focus on the issues, not the personalities. So for example, here in Jefferson County, regarding the commissioners, We don’t want to talk about political affiliation or any of that. We want to talk about the issue. And the issue is that EFOLA, a French bakery, just needs a little flexibility. And what’s so interesting that we are seeing with a despotic government or tyranny is there’s no flexibility and they pick winners and losers. So we’re seeing all kinds of rezoning, all kinds of different things occurring in many of these different municipalities, changing the rules big time for communities. But here we’ve got this little bakery that all it requires is just a little flexibility. So come on out. I’d love to see you at 7 a.m. Regarding, let’s see, let’s get into our word of the day. And our word of the day is sanguine. And it’s S-A-N-G-U-I-N-E. And it could be cheerfully confident or optimistic, at ease or accepting. And I would say that the events of this week, I talked with a friend of mine last night, and her grandson, who’s in college and had met Charlie Kirk, is very angry about what has occurred. I, too, am very angry about this. But we have to take this anger. And realize that vengeance is God’s. It’s not ours. And that we need to continue in Charlie Kirk’s example, and that is speak truth into these issues. And I guess… When Christ was before Pontius Pilate, and Pilate says, what is truth? Somebody said to me the inflection of Pilate, it could be, is he questioning what is truth? Like he’s trying to find out, or just is he being very flippant, what is truth? And we know that in the 60s and the 70s, remember when there was that you have your truth, I have my truth. And that’s where I think that people started to realize that there, or they didn’t realize that there is real foundational truth. which are the basis of the Christian faith, which I think matches up beautifully with the American idea. As Jay Davidson says, the American idea is based on the sanctity of the individual. And Christ went to the cross for the individual so that he could have a personal relationship with each one of us. And so the idea that all men are created equal with these rights from God, of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, these are the foundational truths that our country’s based on and our faith. So with that, we need to continue and be cheerful, I would say, sanguine in our… our search for truth each and every day. So again, that is Sanguine, S-A-N-G-U-I-N-E. And since it is Friday, we are using our quote of the day from the Medal of Honor quote book from the Center for American Values. And the Center for American Values, more important than ever, is located in Pueblo. on the Riverwalk, co-founded by Drew Dix, Medal of Honor recipient, and Brad Padula, who is a great documentary filmmaker, media guy. And they realized that we need to keep these stories alive of our Medal of Honor recipients. And so hence, they have their portraits of valor of over 160 Medal of Honor recipients, but quotes by each of them. And we need to tell these stories. And so be sure and check out and support the Center for American Values. They’re nonpartisan, they’re nonpolitical, and they focus on these events, or excuse me, these important foundational principles of honor, integrity, and patriotism. So our quote today is from Thomas G. Kelly, United States Navy Medal of Honor recipient, born in 1939. These are actions that he took on June 15, 1969. This is his citation. It’s for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity. At the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty, in the afternoon, while serving as commander of River Assault Division… 152, during combat operations against enemy aggressor forces, Lieutenant Commander, then Lieutenant Kelly, was in charge of a column of eight river assault craft, which were extracting one company of U.S. Army infantry troops on the east bank of the Anhuang Canal in Qinhua Province. One of the armored troop carriers reported a mechanical failure of a loading ramp. At approximately the same time, Viet Cong forces opened fire from the opposite bank of the canal. After issuing orders for the crippled troop carrier to raise its ramp manually and for the remaining boats to form a protective cordon around the disabled craft, Lieutenant Commander Kelly realized the extreme danger to his column and its inability to clear the ambush site until the crippled unit was repaired. He boldly maneuvered the monitor in which he was embarked to the exposed side of the protective cordon in direct line with the enemy’s fire and and ordered the monitor to commence firing. Suddenly, an enemy rocket scored a direct hit on the coxswain’s flat, the shell penetrating the thick armor plate and the explosion spring strapped in all directions. Sustaining serious head wounds from the blast, which hurled him to the deck of the monitor, Lieutenant Commander Kelly disregarded his severe injuries and attempted to continue directing the other boats. Although unable to move from the deck or to speak clearly into the radio, he succeeded in relaying his commands through one of his men until the enemy attack was silenced and the boats were able to move to an area of safety. Lieutenant Commander Kelly’s brilliant leadership, his bold initiative and resolute determination served to inspire his men and provide the impetus necessary to carry out the mission after he was medically evacuated by helicopter. His extraordinary courage under fire and his selfless devotion to duty sustain and enhance the finest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service. And this is what he said, moral courage, doing what has to be done because it is the right thing to do, is the mark of a true hero. And as we take these words, particularly with this week where yesterday we recognized 9-11, and last night I was at a prayer vigil at Ramey Johnson’s, for our country and remembering. And again, I think that that’s why it’s so important to support the Center for American Values, And then also, as you know, I so support the USMC Memorial Foundation and the work that they’re doing to take care of the memorial. It’s the official Marine Memorial out at 6th and Colfax, but also to raise the money for the remodel. And it’s important to remember and honor those that have given their lives or been willing to give their lives for our freedom. So support these two organizations, the USMC Memorial Foundation and And the Center for American Values, which that website is AmericanValueCenter.org. Then additionally, all of this happens because of your amazing support and the support of all of our sponsors. So be sure and give them your business. And I wanted to mention Hooters Restaurants, how I got to know them. Very important story about freedom and free markets and capitalism. and PBIs, politicians, bureaucrats, and interested parties that want to control everything. And Hooters Restaurants has locations in Loveland, Westminster, and on Parker Road in Aurora. Great specials Monday through Friday for lunch and for happy hour. And so be sure and check that out. And the whole story, how I got to know them, it’s super interesting. You can find that at kimmonson.com. And then also for everything regarding your insurance needs, reach out to the Roger Mangan State Farm Insurance team. Roger’s been in business for 50 years. SPEAKER 07 :
It is Friday, and welcome back to the Kim Monson Show. Check out our website. Did want to say thank you to the Harris family for their gold sponsorship of the show. And very pleased to have on the line with me Mark Auvil. He is the president of Grand Lake U.S. Constitution Week, which starts on Monday. And Mark, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER 13 :
Good morning, Kim. How are you?
SPEAKER 07 :
I am well. And, Mark, it is amazing since we just talked just the other day. Life has changed. Things are different in America with the assassination of Charlie Kirk. And that is why people need to know our U.S. Constitution. And this is the 14th annual Grand Lake U.S. Constitution Week. Do you not realize how important this is? And it starts on Monday. So what’s your thoughts, Mark?
SPEAKER 13 :
Yes, Kim. After the sad news of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, one of the great patriots of America, yes, our event now has become even more important, especially with our keynote speaker, which is Professor Jonathan Turley and his speech today. which is going to be free speech in an age of rage, and we couldn’t have a better speaker and a better topic. We need to be discussing these topics after the cold-blooded murder of Charlie.
SPEAKER 07 :
Free speech in an age of rage. We are at that time, Mark, you and I have talked about this, 250 years ago, 1775, there was a lot happening in our country. I really do think that we are in the third founding of our country, Mark. And what you and your volunteers at Grand Lake are doing with this Constitution Week. Do you not feel, though, as we’ve talked about your preparation, that the good Lord has his hand on this. The fact that your team, you said, well, what about getting Jonathan Turley, which is a big get, with his subject at this time? Don’t you feel that the divine provider has his hand on your shoulder?
SPEAKER 13 :
It feels like We have divine providence on this event. It’s the craziest thing. We’ll pursue some leads, like you were saying with Jonathan Turley, and the doors open up. And I just got to believe that God has had his hand on this event now for years. It’s just like with Carol Swain and her talking about DEI two years ago. It was very important at the time for people to understand what was happening in our society. And here we are again. We’ve got some tough questions to ask about the First Amendment. Somebody getting killed in cold blood just because they’re expressing their First Amendment rights. We can’t let our society degrade to this. We’ve got to respect one another and love one another. And we need to be able to talk. We have so much common ground amongst all of us as Americans, but there seems to be some dark forces trying to get us all to be divided and hate on one another, and that’s not where we need to go. And Constitution Week’s all about let’s get back to our founding doctrines, let’s get back to the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, that all men are created equal, and let’s get back to that respect.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, I can’t wait to hear what Turley has to say about this, because we talk about we need to listen to each other and come together. People talk about reaching across the aisle. And I think it’s a small, loud percentage that wants tyranny and despotism to be controlling everybody else’s lives. That’s what was so amazing about… Charlie was that he understood, first of all, I guess I would say he understood the principles of our country. So if my values are that each individual is treasured and valued, that we’re all created equal, and that we each have these rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, And the other person says, oh, no, I want to be the person that wants to control everybody’s lives. That’s going to be a difficult place to come together. But I think most people are, if we speak truth into this, I think most people agree with this American idea that all men are created equal with these inalienable rights from God of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. That’s what Charlie was talking about. That’s why I think he was assassinated.
SPEAKER 13 :
I agree. I think that it was a threat to these dark forces that he was respectful for other people’s opinions. He’d have them come to the front of the line and, uh, debate with him about these, these, um, these issues that we’re going through today. And, um, I think it’s so important for what we’re doing now is to get back to these, the, these principles, the shed the light back onto these principles and, um, to encourage folks to get out and be proactively active about being a good citizen in America and respecting one another.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and speaking truth, though, into these principles. And so you have a number of amazing speakers. And we had Rob Nadelson on earlier this week. He’s written the book, The Original Constitution, What It Actually Said and Meant. And he’s been at 13 of the 14 U.S. Constitution Weeks in Grand Lake. But his subject, Ancient Rome and the Constitution, will be really interesting. The next night, Brian Blumenfeld… An attorney is going to be talking about the killdozer and the Constitution, zoning, property rights, and the history of land use law in the U.S. Supreme Court. I’m not going to get up there until Friday. What if people… can’t get there for a certain day for a speaker. We’re on location at the Effola French Bakery up on Lookout Mountain, which they’ve got a zoning thing that the Jefferson County commissioners, all they need to do is give them a variance so that they can have their tiny homes nearby where they work, which is one of those things that we see often. all the time that electeds and PBIs say, hey, we want people closer to where they work. Here we’ve got it, and now there’s not much flexibility. I’m not going to make it up for Brian’s presentation. If people can’t make it up afterwards, definitely want to be in person, but will there be access to these presentations, or what’s that going to look like, Mark?
SPEAKER 13 :
Yeah, yes, Kim. We record, we videotape all of our presentations. We first ask our speakers in case they don’t want them to be aired. But we record all of our speakers and then we post those on our web page. But what we started last year was doing Facebook Live. So you can go to our web page, you can go to our Facebook page and find the links for being able to listen on Facebook Live real time as the presentation is happening. And then we also post those videos on our web page. Sometimes there’s a little bit of delay getting that over to our webmaster and getting those posted. But we do make these available so people can listen to them again.
SPEAKER 07 :
I just can’t believe what you guys are doing. And then on, let’s see, Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock is the trivia contest. That evening at 5 o’clock, Dr. William Morrissey, Professor Emeritus of Politics at Hillsdale College, will talk about the separation of powers. People are talking about that all the time. On Thursday at noon, there will be a Veterans Roundtable. And then that evening, Dr. Thomas Cranawitter will be presenting on Dred Scott, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, Lies That Stick. Then Friday at 11 o’clock, the Sons of the American Revolution are going to do a presentation during Life During the Colonial Day. That is still going on, isn’t it? I know that that was a little, you were trying to reconfirm that. Is that still going on?
SPEAKER 13 :
Yes, we do have that going on. We have confirmed that. It’s on our schedule, and they are going to come out. The Colorado chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution are coming out, and they are going to be doing some presentation on life during the colonial days and the Revolutionary War. They’ll be showing the students how they back then would load a musket, fire a musket, what the living conditions were back then. And so we’re really excited about that. We think it’s going to be really good interactive for the students. And that’s our youth appreciation day on Friday that if they come for that presentation will give them a wristband. which shows that they’re part of the program. And then after that, we have some great Patriot merchants in town, and the students will have a bunch of free activities to do that afternoon, such as bumper cars, go-karts, miniature golf. The fire department’s going to have an open house. We’re going to provide free pizza for lunch. So it’ll be a fun day for them afterwards, but we’re really encouraging students Since grant county doesn’t have school on Fridays we’ve been reaching out to the schools up there and grant county and trying to encourage the students to come out and. be a part of this event we think it’s going to be really exciting for them.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and again, a lot of great fun. Kids will learn something, free pizza. And then at 5 o’clock on Friday evening, Alan Thomas, who is a frequent guest on the show, he writes amazing essays, very thoughtful, young guy, and a guest host of the show as well, will be talking about learning new things from an old book, what the Federalist Papers reveal about the Constitution and life. And I’ve told Alan that somebody said about George Washington or the Washingtons, they said they were born old or I think they were born wise. I think Alan was too. And then just run us through on Saturday, Mark Alville, what’s going to happen?
SPEAKER 13 :
Saturday is our big day. We’re super excited about all the events that we have going on Saturday, September the 20th. It starts with a parade down Grand Avenue. And then that’s a nice throwback to Americana. So we have a nice parade. And then after that, you are our Master of Ceremonies. Kim, we’re honored for that. This is going on now for probably over a decade. We’ve been blessed with your presence now. And then we’re going to have some more activities going back to 1775. We have the Mile High Ceremony. A flight syndrome band and they’re going to come out and do some presentations taking us back to the colonial days, taking us back to 1775 We are approved for fly over by the Air Force, but that’s always tentative because if we have bad weather or we have national security issues. Uh, we might not have that fly over, but we are approved. So we’re locked and loaded for that. And then obviously at 1 PM, we have a professor Jonathan Turley speaking on, uh, free speech in an age of rage. And then, uh, we, uh, have an outdoor concert after that. Uh, this is all in the town park fireworks over grand lake, but a new activity we added just this week. is we have a meet and greet with Jonathan Turley at the Gateway Inn starting at 6 p.m. That’s Saturday, September the 20th. uh and it’s a ticketed event and you can go to our web page and we have a link there tickets are 45 or if you want to get a book because he’s going to do a book signing a ticket and a book is 60 you can buy tickets in advance off of our web page or if you come to our event we’ll have tickets available at a merchandise table but we’re really excited to have that extra time with professor turley and that’ll go from 6 to 8 30 p.m we have appetizers available and then it’s a great venue for watching the fireworks over the lake which will happen around 8 30 so we really encourage people your listeners to come out be a part of americana let’s let’s go and um support free speech, the First Amendment, all of our unalienable rights. Let’s get back to these founding doctrines. And we are getting really excited. And we’re thankful for all of our sponsors. We have a great board of volunteers. I’m going to give a shout out to them. And we’re only a few days away, Kim, from this big event, our 14th annual.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, I’m very excited about it, and I will see you next Friday, and we’ll talk again during the week next week, but that website is grandlakeusconstitutionweek.com. Mark Alville, congratulations. Can’t wait to see you.
SPEAKER 13 :
Thank you, Kim. Can’t wait to see you.
SPEAKER 07 :

SPEAKER 20 :
Thank you for having me on. I appreciate it.
SPEAKER 07 :
And, Wade, I’m on location up on Lookout Mountain here in Colorado, obviously, at a French bakery, Epoila French Bakery, that they need a zoning variance so that they can continue to keep these tiny homes on their property so that they can continue with their business. And so we’re on location. So if you hear a lot of noise behind us, that’s what’s going on. And I just took a bite of the most delicious… chocolate croissant that i’ve ever had so wade miller welcome to the show thank you these are my weakness i’m very jealous so next time you’re in colorado we’ll have to we’ll have to do a road trip but wade miller center for renewing america first of all tell us a little bit about the center for renewing america if people are not familiar with you
SPEAKER 20 :
Sure. So it’s a nonprofit that was stood up by Russ Vogt, who is the Office of Management and Budget Director for President Donald Trump. Before that, I was the chief of staff for Congressman Chip Roy, and I had been a senior advisor, political director for Senator Ted Cruz and others.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. I’m having a technical difficulty. I’m not getting Wade. But I show that I’m still connected, Joe. Are we there? Okay. So I am on location at Et Voila French Bakery, and we’ve got Wade Miller on the line. And I’ve got a good connection here, trying to make sure that I’m troubleshooting everything that I need to do. But I lost Wade, so I don’t know what happened. So Producer Joe is going to get that lined around. While he is doing that, let me just mention, as these pastries, this chocolate croissant is absolutely fabulous. But I also have a great weakness for Italian food. And if you’re craving a real New York-style pizza and pasta, Little Richie’s and Parker and Golden… has you covered. They have authentic New York flavor with Colorado roots, from daily specials and weekday lunch deals to a happy hour worth planning around. They are your neighborhood favorite, and they’re always serving up something worth stopping for. So be sure and check out Little Richie’s. That is in Parker and in Golden. Wade Miller, I lost you for a moment. You had just been giving us basically your great experience. You said that you’d worked with Senator Ted Cruz, and that’s where I lost you.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, sorry about that. And so in summary, Russ and I and others in the movement, and especially those aligned with the House Freedom Caucus, realized that there was kind of a void where there wasn’t really an America first, make America great again think tank that was thinking through public policy from that lens and kind of a realist foreign policy perspective You know, that kind of mentality. And so we stood it up to fill that void and to work with our allies to help advance the president’s agenda.
SPEAKER 07 :
So with that, you and I have been talking about spending. And I just saw a headline this morning when I opened up my computer that I think it said that the deficit has been reduced because of tariffs. Was that correct? Did I see that headline?
SPEAKER 20 :
That’s probably very accurate. Tariff policies have been bringing in a lot of revenues. And this is a great example of an issue that within the conservative movement, there’s not a consensus. So there’s kind of your more traditional trade, absolute free market mentality in which, you know, tariff policy would be bad from a principled perspective. And then there’s kind of a newer, well, I would actually say it’s an older, but it’s kind of a resurgent opinion amongst the right that tariff policy properly applied, intelligently applied, can even the playing field with American manufacturing, with countries like China and other countries that are cheating against our economy. And the argument, one argument will be that this is actually just a tax on consumers. And I’ve been arguing against that for many, many months. Because on paper, what happens is the importer who imports products from China or elsewhere is the entity that’s paying the tax. But I have long argued that, in fact, China and other countries will build that into the cost and that the importer will pay basically the same because China ultimately wants to hold market share on that industry. And if they have to increase their costs and the importer, it’s going to be more expensive for the importer to bring it in from China, then the importers are just going to start buying domestically. And so this has been borne out. In fact, just yesterday, a whole bunch of new data is coming out, well, actually two days ago, and a whole bunch of economists have had to basically eat a little bit of crow on this and admit that they were wrong, that, in fact, this is increasing revenue and it doesn’t appear to be having any real impact on consumer prices. And so I think that it’s a smart tool that the president is using to leverage foreign countries into coming to the negotiating table and making trade deals that are fair for both countries and or as a permanent fixture with some countries that don’t appear to want to treat the markets fairly. fairly you know china uh subjects their workers to toxic chemicals they just don’t care about the lives of their workers we have laws against that kind of stuff in the united states so if china does stuff like that it makes it hard for american manufacturers to compete when china on so many fronts is cheating and terror policy is a way of level setting and making that fair
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and Wade, I had initially been in this camp that we want free trade. But I realized in conversations that free, fair, and honest trade is important. So if you have like a country, like you mentioned China, first of all, that they don’t have protections for workers. that they would create, for example, steel at a much cheaper price and probably less quality than, say, American steel, but then come in and undercut our steel industry, put our steel industry out of business because they’re getting subsidies. That’s not fair trade. And so I think that we have to understand that. Now, the other thing I think people haven’t realized that many of these countries have been charging tariffs on our American products going into their countries. And that was another thing. I remember President Trump had a big poster that he had when he first started about tariffs and had all the different countries and what they were charging as far as tariffs of our products going into their country. And that’s not fair.
SPEAKER 20 :
That’s 100 percent right. You know, when when Trump first put tariffs on Canada, for instance, a whole bunch of people were like, why would you be doing this to one of our closest allies? And they were all crocodile peers because Canada has been imposing tariffs on U.S. products for decades. And so ours was really retaliatory. And I think that Canadians and a lot of other countries were so reliant on the overemphasis of absolute free markets and free trade and that ideology that they’ve been abusing our system by imposing tariffs on us, knowing that ideologically we’d be unlikely to retaliate. And I think that this is the right balance. You know, it’s not one way or the other. I think every country requires a different approach. And in some cases, terror policies are going to be important. In other cases, they’re not going to be ideal. And we want to try to avoid them. But certainly they should be in the tool chest. And it’s not just low wages or slave labor, essentially, or, you know, OSHA violations in countries that don’t have any protections like that. China actively sends students here to steal intellectual property and then bring it back to the United States. I mean, most of the major technological advancements in China exist because they stole intellectual property from American companies. So on a variety of fronts, China is essentially strip mining America. And for a long time, I’ve been doing so confident that we would not have the resolve to stand up for ourselves and protect our economy from them. And that’s changing.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, that is so important. I’m talking with Wade Miller. He’s a senior advisor with the Center for Renewing America. That website is Center for Renewing. I have it right here.

SPEAKER 07 :
And welcome back to the Kim Monson Show. Check out our website. That’s KimMonson, M-O-N-S-O-N.com. I am talking with Wade Miller. He is a senior advisor with the Center for Renewing America. That website is AmericaRenewing.com. Wade… Things have changed in our country, I think, with the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The idea that someone would be assassinated because of what they think and speak is unbelievable. What’s your perspective on this?
SPEAKER 20 :
Well, yeah, I mean, this has hit me pretty heavy. I’ve only met him a few times. I’ve been on his show several times. And I’ve seen a version of this sentiment all over the Internet, which is people are asking, why does it feel like we all lost a family member? And I think that there’s several reasons for that. I think one of them is that he was kind of ever-present. He was all over social media. So a lot of us that didn’t know him well felt like we knew him, even though maybe some of us had never met him before. We saw him a lot. We heard him speak a lot. But I think deeper than that, He was a citizen. He wasn’t an elected official. He was just a citizen speaking his mind in a public sphere and having debates about issues and opinions and public policy and fostering that debate and wanting to have that debate in good faith, peacefully. and so he in a way at a much larger scale he was doing what all of us a lot of us on this call you and i do which is we talk about these issues in the public sphere we talk about them publicly and so we do a version of what charlie does and if you’re an activist you go to speak at your city council meeting or your state legislature you speak in front of you know conservative clubs and on on topics and issues A lot of us talk about these things in the public sphere because that’s what it means to be conservative and involved in the political process. And Charlie Kirk was murdered for doing that exact same thing. And essentially, the only reason it wasn’t me or you, Cam, is because Charlie’s much more famous, and he’s so much better at this than I ever will be. And I’d like to think that I’ve done pretty well for myself, and I have some influence on things. But Charlie is a generational talent, and that’s why he was targeted, is because he was the best of us. And it easily could have been anyone else. Had he not existed, it would have been the next person down. It could have been Steve Bannon. It could have been Russ Vogt. It could have been – you know, they are – Donald Trump was targeted already. It could have been so many other people other than Charlie. And so I think that this hits home for the conservative movement pretty heavily. And, you know, it’s a tremendous loss. Again, he was a generational talent. You just don’t replace someone – like Charlie Kirk, and I’ve seen a lot of people talking about this, and I’ve heard conversations about this in the past. It’s very possible that in 15 years, Charlie Kirk was going to be president of the United States. He had built a giant movement, a giant constituency of support amongst the younger voters. And he was 31 years old, and you can be eligible to run at 35, but assuming that he would have laid this up for 10, 15 years down the road… I think that he would have had a path forward. At that point, we would have been past J.D. Vance. We would have, in theory, been past potentially Ron DeSantis and Ted Cruz. And I think that the field would have been wide open. So it’s hard to imagine and really quantify what a loss this was for the United States of America. And he really was exactly what the founders wanted in their citizenry. They wanted someone who was faithful, a Christian, someone who was a believer, who was active in his community and really took his role in a civic nature seriously and was out there discussing ideas peacefully with your neighbors and having debates about what’s in the best interests of this country from a public policy and political perspective. He was the best of us. And someone stole that from us all. And I think that you’re right, that things have changed. And I think that if you look around and you see the tens of thousands of people out there in our country that were cheering this on, cheering on the fact that a citizen was assassinated for expressing their opinions. I think something has changed. And I think that those people need to be held accountable. And look, I’m against cancel culture. I don’t think that if you have a different opinion than me on abortion, you should lose your employment. I don’t think that if you have a different perspective on Israel, Gaza, that you should be denied the ability to put food on your table. But I think that if you’re actively championing and cheering on and laughing at the fact that a fellow citizen was assassinated and taken away from his two little kids, I think that from now until the end of time, those people need to be chronicled and documented. And unless they sincerely acknowledge that it was wrong and apologize, I’m willing to show grace. But these people need to be followed to the ends of earth and employment denied to them. And we’ve been chronicling active duty members of the military doing this and sending it over to DOD. And they’re already starting to discharge and fire active duty military officers. We’ve seen teachers, nurses, doctors, federal employees, all over the spectrum of employment areas. People cheering this on, and we’re capturing it, we’re saving it, and we’re going to methodically work our way through these lists. You know, just like two months ago when that Democrat politician in Minnesota, I believe, was assassinated. I immediately tweeted out that this is awful. I’m praying for a family because that’s what a human being is supposed to do. We’re not supposed to revel the light in our political opponents being ripped away from their families or children losing their father because they had a different opinion on transgender policy than we do. And yet that’s exactly what has been happening. And so I think that action is needed. Our culture needs to send a signal that that type of activity is is not okay and it’s not permissible and i think that uh the signal has been sent and i think that there are a lot of people working on this and that’s going to kind of be my action item in the next couple weeks is to make sure that those people are held accountable
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, the other thing, though, is if they’re held accountable and would lose their employment, I really don’t want them to be getting onto government programs that are funded by all of us or the debt that we’ve incurred for our children, our grandchildren. We need to get to a point where people are accountable for their actions, but also so that they’re not living off of the… our neighbors. And, you know, that’s one of the reasons we, I think, have gotten into this position of so much debt. And, of course, out here in Colorado, we have a governor and a state legislature that have been whining about the loss of federal dollars for Medicaid. Of course, and this governor and legislature had welcomed thousands of people here illegally and that was never how it was supposed to be in america that the people would be living off of the productivity productivity of others uh wade miller yeah i agree i mean there’s trade-offs uh i think a lot of these comments were made uh in uh
SPEAKER 20 :
And I think that a lot of these people, if you sat them down, they would acknowledge that that was probably inappropriate. And again, I’m fully willing to show grace for people who acknowledge, take those posts down, acknowledge that it was wrong and that type of thing. I’m not asking anyone to agree with Charlie Kirk. I’m just saying that people should pay a social price for publicly cheering on the assassination of a fellow citizen.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, what it shows is a lack of character and virtue. And that’s one of the reasons we’re struggling in our country is because of that. Wade Miller, there’s so many other things I want to chat with you about. We’re just about out of time. We’ve got about a minute. How do you want to wrap this up for our listeners today?
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, I think that hug your kids, you know, I do. First thing I did when this all happened is I came home and I put my daughter to bed and I snuggled with her in bed that night because Charlie Kirk has been robbed of that and his children have been robbed of that. So, you know, I think that the signal from this is next man up, fill the gap. We all have a civic duty. Carly Cork would have wanted people to become active in politics, express their opinion. And I think people should do that. They should take this as an opportunity to not be afraid to go out there and advocate for what they know to be true and right.
SPEAKER 07 :
And the best antiseptic for tyranny and despotism is truth and clarity and debate. And that’s what Charlie Kirk was doing. And you are doing such important work at the Center for Renewing America, and that website is americarenewing.com. Russ Vogt founded that. I’m talking with Wade Miller. Wade Miller, thank you so much for what you’re doing, and we’ll be in touch again very soon.
SPEAKER 20 :
Thanks for having me on.
SPEAKER 07 :
And our quote for the end of the show is from Albert Camus. And he said this, sometimes carrying on, just carrying on, is the superhuman achievement. So, my friends, today be grateful. Read great books. Think good thoughts. Listen to beautiful music. Communicate and listen well. Live honestly and authentically. Strive for high ideals. And like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you. God bless America. Stay tuned for our number two.

And welcome to our number two of the Kim Monson Show. Thank you so much for joining us. You’re each treasured, you’re valued, you have purpose. Today, strive for excellence. Take care of your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body, my friends. We were made for this moment. Thank you to the team.
And we’re doing something so fun. I am on location at the Etoile French Bakery on Lookout Mountain. As many of you know, we have been following this story. I’m eating the most amazing chocolate croissant in breaks, during break. But great coffees and… They have this zoning brouhaha that happened. They have some tiny homes that they have on the property, and they need to have these on the property so that they can get up at 1 o’clock and start baking for this 7 a.m. open. And so the Jefferson County commissioners and their team, they need to offer a variance so that these tiny homes can stay here so that this little French bakery can continue to thrive and prosper. And Rachel and her sister Ruth and Rachel’s husband Eric, they’re from France, so it’s authentic. Everything is authentic. In fact, Ruth gave up a career as an economist to become a… I would say a master baker. And so it’s amazing. They are naturalized citizens, and they’re going after their American dream. So very excited to be here. And they opened at 7, so there’s going to be a lot more background noise here. I just saw my good friend Helen Raleigh come in, and we’ll get her on the air here in just a moment as well. But let’s get to it. Our word of the day is sanguine. And that is spelled, let me get to it. Hold on here. It’s S-A-N-G-U-I-N-E. It could be at ease, accepting. A couple of other things here on the other. Oh, goodness, my friends, I’ve got all my pages. Anyway, we’ll leave it at that. But it could be cheerful as well. And so that is our challenge to use the word sanguine in a sentence today. And our quote of the day comes from the Medal of Honor quote book from the Center for American Values. And the center is located in Pueblo on the beautiful Riverwalk. And they have beautiful portraits of valor of over 160 of our Medal of Honor recipients. And they’re doing great work focusing on these foundational principles of honor, integrity, and patriotism. They’re nonpartisan. They’re nonpolitical. But they’re doing amazing work. And this was a quote from Thomas G. Kelly, a United States Navy Medal of Honor recipient, born 1939, on actions he took on June 15, 1969. And he said this, “…moral courage doing what has to be done because it is the right thing to do is the mark of a true hero.” And I want to hear from all of you as well. The text line is 720-605-0647. 720-605-0647. And I know I sound like I’m getting distracted, and I am because I’m seeing all kinds of my wonderful friends that are walking in the door. And we’re going to get to her in just a little bit, and that is Helen Raleigh. So we’ll talk with her when we come back from break. But Helen is just… I’m going to start to cry in light of all that’s happening in our… world today, but she grew up in China, and we’ll keep that as a cliffhanger. She’s also a naturalized citizen, and she speaks nationally. She’s on a lot of the national radio television shows, as well as she writes for The Federalist. She’s been published in The Wall Street Journal. She wrote a very important piece regarding Al-Qaeda. French Bakery as well. And again, I do want to hear from all of you. That’s 720-605-0647. We did have Mark Oville on earlier, well, in our number one of the show with Grand Lake U.S. Constitution Week. That begins on Monday. And the keynote speaker on Saturday the 20th is Jonathan Turley, whose book is Free Speech in an Age of Rage. And after what’s happened this week, it’s more timely than ever. And I know that they also want to say thank you to many of these people that are making all of this happen up at Grand Lake U.S. Constitution Week. And let me get that for you. Hold on here. I’ve got… Too many different pieces of paper going on here, so hang with me as Joe is getting Alicia Garcia and hopefully Teddy Collins on from the Second Syndicate. And the thank yous for… Grand Lake U.S. Constitution Week. Go to the Gateway Inn. Well, many people, but these are their main sponsors. Sun Outdoors, Rick and Cindy Johnson, who own the Grand Escape Cottages, Hydrotech Plumbing, and Mike and Jackie Tompkins. So we want to say thank you to all of them. And Joe, do we have Alicia on the line yet, or are we still working on that? Alicia Garcia, welcome. It’s great to have you.
SPEAKER 09 :
You’re so right in so many things you’re saying this morning.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, you and I understand the importance of conserving and preserving this great American idea. And Alicia, everything has changed. It’s unbelievable the day before 9-11 that Charlie Kirk was assassinated for thinking and speaking. And that is, freedom of speech is number one in our Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment, the right for people to keep and bear firearms, to protect ourselves against bad actors, whether or not it’s a bad actor in a crowd or if it’s government that’s getting out of control, that’s why the Second Syndicate is in the Bill of Rights. You and Teddy have created, and Rosia, have created the second syndicate, because even though I think so many of us agree on the importance of our Second Amendment, you felt this calling to bring disparate voices together, to work together, because now more than ever we have to do that, Alicia Garcia.
SPEAKER 09 :
No, not only that, I don’t think people really understand the risks that we’re taking by doing so. And if this isn’t an example of how important it is now more than ever for us to double down on not only in our beliefs, but in our faith and in our dedication to the mission, because it’s quite apparent that people hate us. And that is very disheartening because nothing that I do on a daily basis is because I have hate in my heart. nor Teddy nor Rocio or anybody that helps support us here at the Second Syndicate. We take a risk every day by preaching our truth, by celebrating, you know, our faith, by empowering people through the protection and dedication of firearms. And to see that someone so prolific and so profound can be so vulnerable, it just makes us ask ourselves, like, you know, who are we protecting? You know, are we, are we only protecting ourselves, but are we protecting those that are, I mean, we’re literally fighting to protect the people that hate us. And that’s, that’s impactful because it’s like, we’re not only here arguing for the right to self-defense, but we are making a statement that all people deserve this, right? Even those that hate us. And, and that’s, that’s crazy to think that, you know, we, we have empathy. We have, We have understanding and tolerance for people that are not like us, and yet that tolerance has not returned.
SPEAKER 07 :
But it is important to protect it. I remember my father. He served in the Air Force. And during the 60s, where there was all of the unrest on college campuses, and one of his pieces of farmland was along I-70, and He said that you could see a VW bus going down I-70 during the week, and then that next weekend there would be a protest in Boulder. But he said, I served… in the United States Air Force so that they would have freedom of speech. He never, ever wanted to take away people’s freedom of speech. And I think that’s what you and Teddy and Rosia are doing with the Second Syndicate. So we had talked, this was before the Charlie Kirk assassination, and then the same day, a shooting at Evergreen High School. And Rosia, or I’m sorry, Alicia, I… It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that we need to have good people with firearms protecting our students and teachers. And so you are working to raise money at the Second Syndicate for the FASTER program to really outfit school employees, teachers to go through a training program. And how can people help support you in making that happen?
SPEAKER 09 :
Indeed. So just to give some people some background of what we’re doing, we are in support of funding a scholarship and as many scholarships as we possibly can for educators that want to arm themselves and for staff to arm themselves, not just teachers, but janitors, custodians, principals, whoever, lunch ladies. People who work in schools here in Colorado, they have an opportunity through FASTER to attend their training to be able to be armed protectors for our children. Now, that tuition is at least $1,000, sometimes more. It could be costly depending on equipment, etc. So what we are doing at the Second Syndicate is asking people to head over to thesecondsyndicate.com and make a donation of whatever you can afford. If you want to do a repeating donation, please do. and make sure that we can help arm and protect our kids because the goal is we’re not waiting for the government. We’re not waiting for, you know, hey, you know, the state, please help us. We are taking initiative as we, the people of this community, as defenders of these people to say, hey, you know what, we want to make sure that our kids have safe and protected learning environments because they are owed that. So please head to thesecondsyndicate.com, hit the donate page, and donate whatever you can. We have a goal of $50,000 to raise in order to send as many educators and staff through the FASTER program as possible to make sure that they are able to protect our kids.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and the other thing that you’re doing this, this is an immediate thing that you’re working on, but also you are going to be working to be preemptive and proactive down at the state legislature regarding onerous bills that will be probably presented this next legislative session And that also takes time. It takes time away from your businesses to make that happen. And so when supporting the second syndicate, you’re also supporting a voice for those that want to preserve and conserve our second amendment. So again, what’s that website, Alicia Garcia? It is thesecondsyndicate.com, the2ndsyndicate.com. Okay. Well, very good. And, Alicia, I wish you were with me up here at the Effola French Bakery. We are working to, in essence, save their business. They needed zoning variance to make that happen. And we need some flexibility from the Jefferson County commissioners. And so it’s starting to get a little noisy in the background because they just opened. But these things that you’re doing, that we’re doing, are so important, Alicia Garcia. And that’s Alicia Garcia. She is a co-founder of the Second Syndicate. Have a great day. We’ll talk next week.
SPEAKER 09 :
Thank you so much for all you do, Kim. We really appreciate you. And I also wish that I was with you.
SPEAKER 07 :

I did want to say thank you to the Harris family for their sponsorship of the show. And right here with me is my dear friend, and that is Helen Raleigh. Helen Raleigh, welcome. Thank you for having me, Kim. And you have an amazing story. You grew up in China. You are a proud American citizen and patriot. And you are fearless speaking truth into these issues. So it’s good to have you here. Did you ever meet Charlie Kirk? I did.
SPEAKER 04 :
I wrote an article for him yesterday. I met him at the Stimbo Institute Freedom Conference back in 2014 when he was only 21. He was just starting. Well, he actually, he started at 18. So by then, he’s already a professional. But he looked like he was still in high school. He looked so young and just vibrant and has this very infectious smile. Well…
SPEAKER 07 :
This has to hit home to you because you are fearless in speaking the truth, and you have an understanding of this American idea. Growing up in China, the story that you had told that food was rationed, and because you had a name that could either be boy or girl, the authorities thought you were a boy, and they gave boys a little bit more food. So your family had been… You tell the story.
SPEAKER 04 :
I know it.
SPEAKER 07 :
You tell it. Well, thank you.
SPEAKER 04 :
So, yes, I grew up in communist China because there was a wide shortage of everything, including food. So the government instituted a very elaborate rationing system. Rationing included food rationing, and the rationing was based on gender and age. So for the same age, boys and girls. the government decided how much food you could eat each month, and for the same age boy and girls, the boy would have about four more pound rice each month than the girl. And my Chinese name happened to be a boy’s name, so the bureaucracy made a mistake, they gave me the boy’s ration for a while, and even with those four more pound rice each month, I was still hungry all the time. Most of my childhood dream was associated with dreaming about food, just have extra food to eat. So after a while, the government came to our house to do inspection, unannounced inspection, and they found out that I was a girl. And they decided to not only took the extra ration back, but made my family to pay. Suppose I overate the extra rations that I didn’t deserve back. And the rations were based on food coupons. So my family had to save their food coupons together to pay the government back. And that was a life-changing event in my young life. I didn’t think about any grand ideas of freedom and liberty. I would just think about some simple questions like, Why can’t I decide how much food I get to eat? And why does a girl have to eat less than a boy? It’s just those simple questions that planted seeds in my heart that later led me to America and that I became American by choice.
SPEAKER 07 :
You and I met up at Etoile French Bakery, and indeed, the croissants are amazing. Yes. And you are a great appreciator of coffee and tea, and you said that it is great here. It is heavenly, yeah. And you wrote a piece, a powerful piece in The Federalist. And tell me why this story has touched your heart.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, for many reasons. One of them is this bakery was founded by three hardworking French immigrants. As an immigrant, I can relate to their drive, pursuing American dream. They basically throw everything into this business venture. They sold their house. They put every penny they have into this business. And that’s just Kim. That’s what the immigrants do. That we risk everything because we believe in this ideal that this is a free market, that if you work hard and if you have a good business idea, you have a good product, if you put everything into it, that it will become successful and it’s yours. And so that’s why it’s so resonant to me. We were here a couple of times, they do have wonderful product. This is a bakery, the croissants heavenly, it’s the best croissant I ever had, have good French coffee, and if you’re a tea drinker, they have wonderful teas, they sourced from independent sources, and they work so hard, like Ruth, she begins her work day at 1 a.m., when most of us are still sound, probably not you, but most of us still sound asleep, and by the time most people go to work, Ruth already had eight hour, eight, nine hour day. And think about her day, make me just want to cry, about how hard people really work. And you know, another thing really strike me is, recently there’s a Wall Street Journal article, like interview Americans, they’re serving Americans. And it shows that the majority of Americans do not believe in American dream anymore and do not believe that hard work will get them anywhere. And that really strikes me because I think for immigrants, we still believe in that. But I can see why there’s such a despair among Americans for not believing in American dream, not believing hard work will make a difference. It’s because of bureaucracy. You know, use Colorado as an example. Colorado is one of the worst regulatory states. More than half of our rules and regulations are redundant. We are the sixth worst in the nation. How could you believe in working hard and American Dream is going to get you somewhere when you have this bureaucracy push you back, suppress your dream, and try to set all kinds of barriers preventing you from moving forward? That’s exactly what happened with this bakery. So for all those reasons, I think their story should be heard and more people should support them. And I hope the bureaucrats, if they get up early enough, I hope they will listen to this show and recognize… There’s something called common sense. They need a common sense regulation, and they need a common sense enforcement, you know, to help the business, help the residents succeed, not taking their joy away from them. And just like that comment, why can’t we have nice things? You know, the croissant, the French coffee, the French tea, those are the nice things we hardworking Coloradans deserve, and we want them to succeed. We want the bakery to succeed so we can all have nice things. Why can’t the county officials, the government, Understand that.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and the sticky point is the property is zoned commercial. And they had gone through conversations but had been assured that they could put these very good-looking tiny homes here. Yes. We have PBIs all the time saying we want people to reduce their commutes and to live where they work, and here they’re doing that. Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
And it’s energy efficient. Yeah. They use the solar. It’s energy efficient. They provide additional power. And also the nature of their business, if Ruth has to start working at 1 a.m., she needs to just walk a few steps here. Had they lived anywhere else, they couldn’t do that.
SPEAKER 07 :
I know. And there’s residential around them. So just as you mentioned, a little common sense, a little flexibility. And so we’re calling on the Jefferson County commissioners to take action on this. So Ellen Raleigh, it’s so great to have you here. Thanks for coming. What’s your final thought you’d like to leave with our listeners?
SPEAKER 04 :
I just want to give a start for Charlie. I think that what happened to Charlie is very tragic. And I wrote in my article, it’s called the assassin’s veto. Basically, now we have forces to try to shut different opinion down just by murdering or threatening to murdering people. And the only way we can honor him and to keep this American experiment going is to keep speaking out. Like what you’re doing. And you do that.
SPEAKER 07 :
So where can people find you?
SPEAKER 04 :
They can find me on HelenRaleighSpeaks.com and also on Substack. My newsletter is called Confucius Never Said. Oh, and also your books. And my books. You can find all my books on Amazon, Barnes & Noble. Just search under my name, Helen Raleigh, and also go to my website. They can order books from there, too.
SPEAKER 07 :
And that’s Helen Raleigh, R-A-L-E-I-G-H. Helen, thank you so much. Go enjoy that croissant. Oh, thank you. Okay. And boy, we have these important discussions because of our sponsors. And I am so grateful for my longtime friend, and that is Karen Levine for Everything Residential Real Estate.

SPEAKER 25 :
The basement flooded and there’s the kitchen remodel.
SPEAKER 18 :

That is GrandLakeUSConstitutionWeek.com, GrandLakeUSConstitutionWeek.com. I’m on location. I’m going to have her say it because Roger Mangan actually speaks French, and I was trying to give him the story, and he corrected it. Is it et voila? Et voila. Et voila. Perfect. Okay. Rachel Dufour, correct?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes. I’ve got that.
SPEAKER 07 :
You are one of the owners.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
You and your husband and your sister of French Bakery. And I got to know you because I had two listeners that reached out and said, there is something going on. that you need a variance or some flexibility from Jefferson County so that you can keep these very good-looking tiny homes on the property because you sold everything to create this business.
SPEAKER 05 :
So tell us what’s going on. Yeah, thank you, Kim, for having us. Yes, we had this dream of creating this French bakery, Evola French Bakery, on Lookout Mountain Road to be able to serve the community. create a place where people will gather, get to know each other, be a safe haven for a cyclist as well, and tourists, bringing the French test to this mountain, and to do so, we sold everything we had, our house, a condo we had, to be able to do the bakery. And when I say do the bakery, it means baking at 1 a.m. and being on site. We have created this for-profit to support our non-profit, We provide counseling for pastors and missionaries around the world. And so we do both at the same time, providing counseling from our offices, baking at 1 a.m. And all of this is able to happen. It is happening. We are doing it because thanks to those trailers, tiny homes that we have on land. We thought it was legal because we did our due diligence before and we thought we were good and okay to go with that before we even built the trailers. And now we are in a big mess. with Jefferson County because it’s so commercial, as you have already said, and they consider it as homes, our residence. We work, we sleep where we work. And yes, we are trying to help them understand that French bakeries work at night, sell in the morning fresh. Like it’s 7 a.m., everybody’s entering their French pain au chocolat. So this is what is going on. And we are… so touched by the support, by Joachim and Helen and all the people who understand what we are doing and want this to be able to go on. Well, and so there’s been some positive things that have occurred.
SPEAKER 07 :
You have a petition bringing light to this issue at Change.org. I think when you and I first connected, there were around 1,800 signatures, and your goal was to get to 2,500. Well, You’ve gone way past that, yes?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes, that’s amazing. And it’s thanks to Hélène’s article. The people from change.org read the article, researched our story, and they were so touched that they said we are going to… help you. And now we passed the 9,500, I think. It’s just amazing. Because all of this started with one anonymous complaint, one person. We didn’t have enough courage to come and tell us, what are you doing? What is the problem? Ask questions. We could have a conversation. That’s all about having a conversation, even when you disagree with someone. our heart goes to Charlie’s family about that. It’s all about having a conversation. So we wanted to have a conversation with someone, one anonymous person, started this whole mess, but 9,500 people are saying now we want the bakery to keep going on. So that’s amazing.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and zoning is not to be used as a heavy lever. There needs to be common sense on that. And certainly I understand protection of property rights. Yes. But as I have driven around here, it looks like that there’s residential very near you.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, yes. Right? People live here. We have very few businesses on Lookout Mountain Road. Three, I think. And so the rest is residential. So people do live here. You know, we are very quiet because we work all the time. So I can’t imagine why we are disturbing anyone. And zoning has ways, giving us variance. The director can put his foot down and say, okay, just give them breather for two years. We don’t ask for more than that. And so they have a way to make it happen. I really hope and pray that they will. Then everything will end well and… We thank Zoning for their work. They want to protect and do their job, but please understand our story.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and someone told me that before you put all of this money into this bakery and these very good-looking tiny homes here that you had custom-built, I think, in Canada, that the building had been vacant for four years, that there was old cars and things on the property. Yes. It doesn’t make sense to not give you a variance to have this little business.
SPEAKER 05 :
And what is surprising to me is that before we came in, the previous owner of the land had their house on land. And they were living here. They had a restaurant, Cody Inn Restaurant. That was very famous. And we have people say, oh, I used to come and play with the kids of those people doing the restaurant because they lived on site. There was a house and there was an apartment linked to the building. And the house was exactly where we put the trailers, the tiny houses. So people did have a restaurant and live on site. That’s what the resident did. The people in the mountain are telling us, they are saying, like, it’s been dual-used, zoned, and we don’t know what happened. I don’t know what changed. But for years, a family lived here, and kids grew up here because they were running their restaurants. And I totally understand that. So it was happening before.
SPEAKER 07 :
There have been those that have said, well, just you can live someplace else. And they don’t understand, again, as Helen had mentioned, the hard work that it takes to build a business in America. But the opportunity is amazing. But I looked online, and it looks like during the summer, look out Mountain Road.
SPEAKER 05 :
Excuse me, during the winter, it’s closed at night. The mountains, I mean the roads, when it’s heavy snow, they are closed. So if we lived down in Golden, we could not, she could not, Ruth could not be here at 1 a.m. because the roads are closed. And they open them at 7 a.m. for the bus. the school bus to come, but she needs them open at midnight. And of course, they’re not opening the road for us. That’s why we need to be on site. That’s the question many people are asking. Are you going to stay open during winter? We want to, because the community still needs this place. We will still have the students coming to get some French test and coffee and not expensive places. So, yes, we do need to stay open during the winter. This is not just summer. It’s beautiful. Winter is beautiful, but very harsh on the mountain. And we have passed one first winter, so we can do it. With the trailers set up the way they are, we can. We can do it. Everything stayed not frozen. We had a few scares, but we want to be able to stay open during the winter. Otherwise, we are going to be bankrupt. We need to have the business run all year long.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, and people need to think about it. What if government came into you and said, you can’t go to work for five months of the year? What would that do to your family? What would that do to your income? And so I think that’s important that people understand that. And again, everything is so tastefully done here. It’s an improvement over what was here. And that’s one of the things that’s so… curious that we would have zoning being used to say we liked it when it wasn’t done as tastefully as well. It’s really crazy to me.
SPEAKER 05 :
But there’s some progress that’s being made. Yes. So tell us about that. The progress, I believe, are linked to the increase of signatures. So thank you, everybody who has signed the petition. We keep going, keep signing. And that’s at change.org? Yes, et voila French bakery. That’s E-T-V-O-I-L-A, okay. French bakery, yes. Because our lawyer did a checkup yesterday and the lawyers of Zoni agreed to not start the penalties because of the violation until we have this resolved and we go through the appeals and so they have like postponed or stayed, the penalties are stayed. So it’s like frozen. That’s what I understand. So we are not going to be fine while we are having the conversation with zoning, which is amazing because they could have started it on August 18th, which would have bankrupt us one more time. So that’s a huge progress. And then we are in the appeal process, still talking with them. Hoping to find a solution. I don’t know what is the behind-the-door story about this very hard position on us not being able to run the business the way we need. I don’t know.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, we need to continue to pray for your business. My friends, just think about this. We’ve got a little business that the county could be fining them because they are doing their business. This is crazy. This is not the kind of stuff that should happen in America. And so change.org, go to change.org and et voila, and that’s E-T-V-O-I-L-A and sign the petition because I think these county commissioners are paying attention to the fact that you are all paying attention.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
And that’s what’s so important. Rachel Dufour, first of all, this is the best croissant I’ve ever had in my life.
SPEAKER 05 :
Thank you.
SPEAKER 07 :
It makes me happy. Thank you. And my neighbor said, could you bring a loaf of French bread home? So I think I’m going to do that, too. For sure you will.
SPEAKER 05 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 07 :
What’s your final thought you’d like to leave with our listeners?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, thank you, Kim, and I’m very touched to see that the people still have a voice in this country, and we want to keep it going. And I pray a blessing on the people who think like us and not. And I just want to thank you all for supporting us, supporting small businesses in America. This is part of why our heart is so attached to this country. We have a voice, and we’re able to share it and do great things all together. Thank you.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, it is my honor. And again, we wish you well. We’re going to continue to shed light on this. And I’m so grateful that there’s some good news. And so, Rachel Dufour, thank you so much. Thank you, Kim. Thank you, everybody. And these discussions happen because of our sponsors. And thank you to John Bozen and Bozen Law.

SPEAKER 10 :
Good morning, Kim. Thank you so much for having me on today.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, it has been quite a week with the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the shooting up in Evergreen. You are a co-founder of CPAN, which is the Colorado Parents Advocacy Network. And I think, Lori, one time you told me that I was one of the first shows that you were ever on to talk about this new endeavor that you were working on.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yes, you were the first show, the Kim Monson show. I remember driving into studio and being absolutely panicked.
SPEAKER 11 :
And you welcomed me with open arms and really gave us a platform to reach out to your listeners, to help them get engaged and informed on what is happening. You know, initially it was in the public schools, but now Our mission is really expanded because parental rights go so much further than the school door. You know, we are in health care, from medical and mental health care, family court, CPS, education. You know, our whole mission is on for parents to take back their authority to direct their child’s upbringing, care and education.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and I think that parents have taken it for granted that that would never come into question, but it has, particularly here in Colorado. And so you are putting together a gala, which is, I think, next Friday, right? So tell us about that. Yes.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, so our gala is next Friday, September 19th at the Stunning Vehicle Vault in Parker, Colorado. Listeners can get their tickets today on our website if they go to coloradoparents.org and just click on our events tab. We’re so honored. We have Biff Gore, who your listeners may know as a finalist from The Voice. Adam Levine claims him the ambassador of soul. He is a pastor here in Denver at Highline Church. And he is going to be our event host and auctioneer. We have Colorado mom, Erin Lee, who is the executive director of Protect Kids Colorado, the organization that is bringing the three wonderful ballot initiatives to protect children to the November ballot in 2026. We also have Trevor Loudon as our keynote speaker. I’m sure many of your listeners know his book, The Enemy Within. He is a international author, filmmaker, speaker, most recently in the groundbreaking documentary Beneath Sheep’s Clothing. And we’re so grateful for video commentary from our dear friend and mentor, Dr. Alveda King, Christian evangelist, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and James Lindsay as well, who is the founder of the incredible podcast, New Discourses, and author, just an amazing, amazing person who is extremely well-versed in all things that are happening in education.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, it is going to be a great event. Again, how can people buy tickets to this event, which is next Friday the 19th?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes, so tickets are available on coloradoparents.org. Just click on our events tab. The event starts promptly at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 next Friday at the Vehicle Vault in Parker. We do have different levels. We have a whole VIP experience, and that will have a private reception from 6 to 645. But the venue itself is just such an incredible place, you know, this whole concept of Americana. And, you know, it’s a night of celebration, a night of hope, a night of strength. You know, we’re all grieving with the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk this week. You know, this is a time for fellowship. It’s a time to come together. It’s a time to stand up for what is right and true. And it’s a time to celebrate our wins here in Colorado. We are shifting the culture. We, the people, are coming together. And I could not be more proud to stand alongside, you know, all of your listeners, all of the people that are in this movement. You know, the other night, Erin Lee and I and Jennifer Say and Mark Geis were on a panel with Douglas County Citizenry. And Aaron said, we are all Protect Kids Colorado. And I feel very strongly about that. We are all working together to shift this culture.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, again, and Lori Gimmelstein, amazing work that you’re doing. That’s Lori Gimmelstein, co-founder of CPAN, which is Colorado Parents Advocacy Network. And that website is Colorado Parents. Is it with an S or is it singular?
SPEAKER 11 :
It’s with an S. It’s plural, coloradoparents.org.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. Lori, thanks so much, and thank you for all that you do. Thank you, Kim. Okay, and I just got a text from Gammy that she sent a letter to the commissioners. She is amazing. She makes her voice heard through emails and letters, and I really appreciate all that she’s doing. And I was going to say in studio, in the Eiffel French Bakery, is my good friend Yvonne Paez. Yvonne, welcome. Bonjour, Kim. Et voila.
SPEAKER 06 :
So voila means and here it is. And here we are at this wonderful bakery. And oh, my God, their pain au chocolat, which is a chocolate croissant, is amazing.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, it’s great to have you here. Thank you. And you are, yes, a co-founder of Perspectives 101. So tell us just a little bit about that.
SPEAKER 06 :
Very quickly, it’s a northern Colorado civic group, and we basically started with just like 25 people. We are about 1,400 strong now. People are hungry for information, and basically our slogan is honest talk on current issues.
SPEAKER 07 :
How amazing. Isn’t that what we’re supposed to be doing here? We are. We are. But the fact that we would have a voice silenced this week, what’s your thoughts on that?
SPEAKER 06 :
You know, it’s truly, truly tragic and inexcusable. And he was the kindest, most respectful man in conversations. Yes, he would invite people to tell them what they thought, and he would counter with his ideas, always in a respectful manner. This was unwarranted. Some lunatic out there did what he felt he needed to do, but… This is the United States. There is freedom of speech, especially freedom of respectful speech. And his voice will not be silenced. His movement, turning point, will probably be greater upon his death than it ever was when he was alive. And we are, everybody listening, we are, especially the young people, we are at a turning point in this country. You either stand for freedom of speech, and we can do this respectfully, But we don’t have to, but I mean, it’s nice when we do it respectfully like he did it. Freedom of speech is freedom of speech. And we either stand for it or it will be silenced forever. And I have friends that are from Cuba, and they know what that looks like when that is silenced. So we do not want to turn into that. So stand strong in his legacy. Stand strong, be courageous, and speak truth.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and Helen had mentioned it, the assassin’s veto, or I’d reference the assassin’s censor. We cannot let our voices be silenced because of any kind of fear. Let’s move over to you are working diligently on the project to protect Kids Colorado to get these three ballot questions onto the ballot in 2026. So tell us a little bit about that. We’ve got a couple of minutes.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, so petitions are out, and everybody wants one. Just 40 signatures per petition. And, you know, these things are going like hotcakes. Everybody wants to sign. And upon signing, people say, how do I get one of these? And so we just place one in their hands, and they can go to their group of circle of influence to see if they agree with these measures or not. And they can sign or not if they want to. But most people are signing. They’re really no-brainers. So the first one is… Basically, that nobody should buy or sell a child for sex in Colorado. And if they do, they should go to jail and stay there. So it’s no sex trafficking of children in Colorado. And then the next one is the oldie but goodie. No boys and girls sports. I think everybody understands this now. If there’s people who are different, then you open up your category. There are differences, biological differences. So open up a third category, whatever. But no boys and girls sports, please. And in the third one is also quite simple. No irreversible sex change surgeries for children. Adults can do whatever they want, but children don’t have the maturity to make these kind of decisions. And now that this has been happening for a while, there now is evidence of serious harm and regret. Many children who regret the decisions that they made. Let’s postpone that until they are of age and have a little more maturity and make those very irreversible decisions. These are no-brainers. They have a lot of support across all, I mean, I don’t even, across everybody. So across party lines, across everybody. If you’re a rational human being who really cares about children, all three of these measures make really great sense. And how can people get more information about Protect Kids Colorado? Just go to protectkidscolorado.org. And the website, you can see how to sign up to be a volunteer. And you can also read information about what Protect Kids Colorado is about. Yvonne Paez, thank you for all that you do. And again, how can people reach you regarding Perspectives? For Perspectives 101, just email perspectives101.info at gmail.com.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. Thank you for all that you do. Our quote for the end of the show is from Albert Camus. He said this, sometimes carrying on, just carrying on is the superhuman achievement. So today, my friends, be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you, and God bless America.
SPEAKER 12 :
Like a new moon rising fierce Through the rain and lightning Wandering out into this great unknown And I don’t want no one to cry But tell them if I don’t survive
