Welcome back to the National Crawford Roundtable Podcast. My name is Neil Boron, host of Neil Boron Live on WDCX Radio in Buffalo, New York. Each week we get together with the guys who also participate in the podcast. Bob Dutko, host of the Bob Dutko Show on WMUZ in Detroit, Michigan, and John Rush of Rush to Reason on KLZ in Denver. We talk about all kinds of stuff that’s in the news and do our best to put a biblical spin, put a biblical perspective on the kinds of things we’re talking about that have implications for how Christians live in today’s world. There’s a lot of stuff in the news and there’s a million things we could talk about on any given week. Today, I want to try to touch on a number of the things that have been very obvious and right in our face, the government shutdown slash reopening. We want to talk about that today. Also, some more on last week’s election night, which some are calling a blue wave. Was it really a blue wave? Let’s talk about what was happening there and what should we be expecting in the year to come as we head towards the midterm elections. Also, some polls indicating that voters were expressing some pretty strong feelings about the way the economy is going and remembering that Donald Trump had made Overture is about, you know, ending inflation and getting back to reasonable prices at the grocery store, etc. How big of an issue will that be as we head towards the midterms? And then also, you know, ABC got sued by Donald Trump. There’s been a lot about media bias. And right now there’s talk about the possibility of Donald Trump slapping a $1 billion lawsuit on the British Broadcasting Company. So I How is that materializing? We’ll talk about that. He said that they deceptively edited and definitely did deceptively edit some of his speech from January 6th, a number of years ago. And we’ve seen that many times over. But anyhow, where is that headed? We’ll talk about all of that. But guys, it’s great to be back with you. I have the opportunity here to talk about some of these things. So we record Wednesday mornings around 1030 a.m. Eastern Time. The vote from the House of Representatives is expected later in the day, 5 p.m., maybe later. But by this evening, we should know whether the government is officially reopened. And I know that you guys have definitely been talking about this on your program. So why don’t I start with Bob in this case and just move a little bit west here before we get out to John. Bob, your thoughts on where this thing is headed? Obviously, the Senate finally got this thing through with eight defectors from the Democrat Party. There’s a lot to talk about there. What are your thoughts on what’s happening potentially today and how this bodes for conservatives in the future?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, I have kind of a cynical take on this. And so I don’t know that I’m right about this, but this is what I really think it is. I think this has been strategically planned for a while from Chuck Schumer and the Democrats. And all of these people right now acting shocked and outraged. Oh, these eight defectors from the Democrats. I think this whole thing was preplanned. They had to think about the – they had to think about the election of last week. And the Democrats desperately needed the hardcore liberal left-wing Marxist base of their own party to be energized and go to the polls and vote. And I think the Democrats knew that whenever they caved, if you will, to the Republicans, that this would anger and alienate the Marxist base of of the Democrat Party. And the last thing they needed last Tuesday was for unenergized young Democrat socialists to not go out and vote. So I think that they kept their arms folded, the Democrats did, to keep them activated so that they could have their sweep last Tuesday. And then as soon as that election happened, I told my audience, On Tuesday of last week, I said, you mark my words, the Democrats are going to have eight people that cave, coincidentally, but they’re not going to do it right away the day after the election because that’ll be too obvious. So they’re going to wait a few days. You watch by this upcoming weekend, you’re going to see… hmm, I got eight Democrats that are now breaking ranks. And coincidentally, all eight Democrats are Democrats that are not up for reelection next year. So these are safe seats for the Democrats. And so I think that the plan was, let’s find eight people to fall on their sword that aren’t up for reelection next year. But let’s wait until several days after Our election victory then will anger and alienate the leftist base, but we got plenty of time to recover from that. So I think this is all a strategic game right now, and people are feigning outrage over Chuck Schumer and the Democrats. So that’s really what I think is going on. And then secondarily, the Democrats didn’t cave in the first place. All right. What the Democrats are getting for right now for the CR is the very same spending that they approved themselves already under Biden. The Republicans are allowing them to keep the status quo plus a handful of extra little things that aren’t really that significant. So the Democrats are actually slightly ahead of where they were already. That’s Republicans caving and letting them keep the status quo until the end of January. So it’s a joke. But, yeah, I think this whole thing is strategic as far as the timing for the purpose of getting the left-wing base out there to give the Democrats their blue wave last Tuesday. That’s my take.
SPEAKER 04 :
One quick follow up on that. If that was true, if that’s the strategy that they employed and this whole thing was a ruse, ultimately, what does that do for people like Chuck Schumer, though? Because he would have had to go along with that to some degree. And then, you know, the effort is what to eventually face him out. Yeah, but I think he’s absolutely part of the ruse. But I mean, in light of the socialist, you know, neo-progressive arm of the Democrat Party, the wacko progressives. Oh, they hate him. Well, of course they do. But why would Schumer agree to this that ultimately somehow empowers them, especially on the heels of what happened last week at the polls?
SPEAKER 05 :
Personally, I think the reason that he would do that is because he knows he didn’t have much of a choice. Because either way, the Marxist, Mamdami, AOC base of the Democrat Party, they’re wanting to oust Chuck Schumer no matter what. So he’s going to have to fight his left flank no matter what he does. So he can either fight his left flank and have election victories last Tuesday, or he can fight his left flank and not have the election victories last Tuesday. So either way, I think he knows his days are numbered either way. So it’s like, all right, well, maybe this will be the thing that will at least ingratiate me with some of the leadership in the Marxist wing. And by the way, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if some of the Marxists in the Democrat Party aren’t in on this also, and they’re just giving a wink-wink to each other and then feigning the outrage against him. I just would not be a bit surprised.

But then it also raises some questions like, you know, what would I thought the Democrats were kind of relishing the idea that they could pin the shutdown on Donald Trump because people don’t always do their homework. And if you feel like you’re suffering and Trump’s the president, so it must be his fault. Well, yeah. Now it looks like it’s going to come to an end. How in the world does that benefit the Democrat Party, especially when, you know, eventually they’ve got to deal with this Affordable Care Act stuff? So I don’t know. What are your thoughts? Because this whole thing could be over with as of tonight.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right now. And I think it will be. And I don’t disagree with Bob on on this at all. I do believe there, you know, Democrats are very good at strategizing. And by the way, they message much better than we do. We talk about that continually, which maybe we’ll talk about a little bit more later. Today, we don’t do very well on the messaging side of things. They, of course, have much more, because it’s a Marxist movement, they’re much more integrated, I guess you could say, even though there’s some factions of the party that may not fully agree with what’s actually going on. All in all, they sort of walk away. you know, lockstep and do exactly what they’re told to do, including guys like Schumer, whether he agrees with what’s going on or not. You know what? Those guys don’t break ranks very often. It’s very rare to find a Fetterman that’ll actually break ranks with the Democrat party and do something different. And, and he’s liable to be targeted by them when it’s all said and done as well, because that’s how they do things. We’re not that way on our side. We, you know, we believe in the independent thinking and, you know, you do you and that sort of thing. And unfortunately, uh, That doesn’t bode very well for us at times. So, yeah, I agree with Bob on the timing of all of this. I’m not shocked at all. Just like Bob predicted that, you know, wait till the elections are over. You’re going to see this thing come to an end. It is. I mean, they wanted to get some things done like, you know, Mamdami and New York and other places around the country where they wanted some big wins. And they got those big wins. And the problem is, and, you know, Neil, you just alluded to this a moment ago. The problem is the… I would even say the average, even above average voter are very ignorant when it comes to what’s actually going on in politics in the world around them. They’re, you know, Rush Limbaugh used to call them the low information voters. And I hate to say this, but they are, and we have more of them now than we probably ever have had. You know, they read some of the headlines or what’s going on on social media. And there’s so much misinformation when it comes to what I just said, that people won’t dig much further than the headline they read coming through their feed on, you know, Facebook or Instagram or whatever it is. They, They just don’t dig into the facts. And so in this case, if they’re not getting their SNAP benefit, it’s all Donald Trump, the Republicans fault. They have no idea what’s really going on, but they blame it on that particular party. And that showed last week.
SPEAKER 04 :
Sorry about that. I was having trouble with my microphone switch. Sorry when that happens. OK, so. All that said, there’s more to come, obviously, because even if the government’s reopened, ultimately, the question of the Affordable Care Act passed under Obama, no Republican support for it whatsoever. It’s the reality of what we’re facing today. subsidies were enhanced during COVID that haven’t gone away yet. Those subsidies are likely to go away because the GOP says they’re not going to support any of that, which means that the American people all of a sudden are going to be facing rising health care costs. The Doesn’t Donald Trump and the Republican Party get stuck with, oh my gosh, you know, now we can’t afford health care. First of all, they took the food off our table. We couldn’t feed our children. Our SNAP benefits were taken away. Now we can’t pay for health care. Who are these Republicans?
SPEAKER 03 :
And which, again, was part of the, you know, and again, messaging that this was all part of what the Democrats had put into place in the first place. We haven’t changed anything. We’re allowing things to expire that they set up during covid, which, frankly, went on longer than they should have anyways. So at the end of the day, we haven’t done anything. They did this. But once again, Neil, we suck at messaging.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. And that continues to be the problem. It seems like that’s a theme, obviously, over the last year or two here on the roundtable is the idea that the GOP has a really hard time staying in front of this stuff. And I don’t know. I mean, Donald Trump, in some ways, I think ought to be addressing this on a regular basis, you know, hold a conference.
SPEAKER 03 :
I know Bob and I disagreed on this a few weeks ago, but, you know, the whole White House thing and I get it. He raised the money on his own and I get where the Democrats are coming from. I understand Bob’s position. But The average low-information voter, they’re thinking, wait a minute, my health care costs are going to go up sky high. My SNAP benefits have now ended for all intents and purposes until they get government reopened, and, and, and, and, and. And the cost of groceries is high, and this, that, and the other. The whole affordability thing, which, again, we don’t message on very well at all, and Donald Trump should have never said that he’ll promise to lower prices. You could make them more consistent and you might be able to stabilize them. But the promise lowering prices was probably one of the dumbest things he’s ever said. And I’ll call him out on the stupid things that he said. That was a stupid thing. And on the White House end of things, we should have messaged that better. Hey, guys, guess what? We’re doing this because at the end of the day, this is going to save taxpayers money. We’re not spending one dime of your money to do this. And at the end, there’s huge benefits in doing so. The average person doesn’t know what I just said.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. Now, I want to talk about the affordability thing, but let’s hold that for just a minute because there’s so much that relates to the reopening of government and the idea that the Affordable Care Act is going to have to be dealt with somehow. This whole thing is sort of sunsetting. And when it does, people are going to be faced with higher costs for health care. Bob, obviously, you’ve got things to say about what John just shared. What do you think about all this?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, I mean, first of all, I tend to be with John about the messaging of the Republican Party. The fact is, you know, Republicans do stink at messaging, at getting in front of stories. You know, they typically do.
SPEAKER 03 :
Really quick, Bob, we’re always backpedaling and or trying to cover something that’s been said rather than getting in front of it. I don’t understand who’s in charge of PR in the Republican Party. I guess no one is.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah. Well, part of the challenge that we’re up against, though, and I don’t want to discount the messaging thing that you’re talking about, John, because you’re very right about that. But I’ll level with you. It is frustrating that we have to basically constantly run up the down escalator. We have to do things 10 times better than the Democrats do.
SPEAKER 03 :
But, Bob, you as a business owner in the past –
SPEAKER 05 :
Because the mainstream media runs cover for the Democrats, so they can be sloppy and color outside the lines and get away with it. They’re going to be covered by the media. Republicans can’t. We have to be surgically precise and perfect all the time.
SPEAKER 03 :
And you know what? We know that’s the game that’s being played, and yet we don’t play it very well. I mean, it’s not like this is a secret. Bob, you’re not giving anything that nobody doesn’t know already on the front side. Why don’t we deal with it then?
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, now let’s think about this, okay? Imagine if Mike Johnson were sitting here right now. I can see Mike Johnson saying, what do you want me to do differently? I’ve been holding press conference after press conference.
SPEAKER 03 :
It’s not so much him. And what I would tell him is I would say, Mike, this isn’t your job. This is the job of the RNC to get in front of these things. There’s a lot of money that comes into the RNC. They can run commercials. They can do all sorts of things publicity-wise to get in front of some of the things that we’re dealing with right now that us three are talking about right now. And I wouldn’t blame this on Mike. I blame this on the RNC.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, so the RNC – let me play devil’s advocate, okay? And I’m not disagreeing with you, John, but devil’s advocate. Should the RNC spend then $50 million to run a big ad campaign, an education ad campaign to let Americans know this is really on the Democrats, it’s not on us, here’s why?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes. We right now, by the way, are loaded up with money for the first time probably in a long time. We have more money than the Democrats. Spend it. Yeah.
SPEAKER 01 :
All right. I don’t think it would be a bad idea.
SPEAKER 04 :
I don’t disagree with you on that. I also, I just don’t get why, you know, Donald Trump doesn’t say, Hey, by the way, on next Tuesday, I’m holding a nationwide, you know, I’m going to be live. I’m going to tell you what’s coming down the pike and why we need to make changes in healthcare and how this is going to benefit you, how ultimately costs are going to come down and you’re going to get better healthcare and you, you know, promises that Obama made under Obamacare that didn’t pan out. We’re going to fix all of that. But in the meantime, because of Obamacare, especially the subsidies that increased during COVID need to be dealt with, you’re going to feel some pain. But here’s where we’re headed. Get way out in front of it. We’re still talking about changes to the east wing of the White House right now. I mean, it’s kind of focused on the wrong things, in my opinion. I think that some of this falls on Trump, not just the RNC. That would be great. It’d be great if somebody else would, you know, provide some cover once in a while. And Mike Johnson’s probably doing everything he can do. But the messaging thing has to be comprehensive. It’s got to be from every which way and every angle. And I just don’t see that happening. OK, Neil, let me ask you this.
SPEAKER 05 :
OK, regarding Trump, if Trump were sitting here right now. Trump would say, when’s the last time you went to my Truth Social? Every other day I’m putting out some kind of message about the government and why I want to reopen the government and we’re finding ways, we’re looking for ways, any way possible to get the government reopened and the Democrats are the ones stopping it. Okay, so Trump is going to say, what do you want me to do other than every other day posting a different message on Truth Social? I am on this.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, number one, I wish we could patch him in because he probably is listening right now. He’s probably listening to the roundtable.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, I think he’s a roundtable groupie.
SPEAKER 04 :
No doubt. Well, hang on.

I want to answer that question.

Go ahead.

No, really quick, though, Neil. And Bob, here’s my answer to Donald Trump. I love the fact you have true social. It has a million where X has 70 million. You’re not reaching the masses.
SPEAKER 04 :
Exactly my point.
SPEAKER 05 :
What I was going to say is that the mega base. You’re right. Suck it up and go on X. I agree with you. Totally.
SPEAKER 04 :
And on national television with a live press conference that can’t be edited. They’ll edit it later on the playback on local newscasts and national newscasts, but the substance up front.
SPEAKER 05 :
Trump could have an address to the nation from the Oval Office tonight, and ABC, NBC, and CBS wouldn’t run it.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, at least we’ve got the footage, though. I mean, at least it’s almost like the J6 thing.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, that runs on conservative media.
SPEAKER 04 :
But ultimately, you can go back and check what actually was said to the American people. The point is that the information was presented in a larger forum than just truth social. But that would have been my answer to you. It’s got to be outside of just the people that revere you. You’ve got to really honestly, you’ve got to get to the undecideds, either moderate Democrats or conservative leading Democrats, if there is such a thing. But the undecideds and I think they’re the ones who put Trump over the top in the last election. And they’re the future right now. It’s how do we convince the people who haven’t quite made up their minds? They realize something’s wrong. They’re not buying what the liberal media is always telling them. They’re suspicious of where we’ve been in the past. They’re not sure that they believe anything the Democrat Party says anymore. But what’s going to make them jump? What’s going to make them commit to supporting Democrats? You know, the GOP plan and the whole conservative approach to finances and the economy and health care and all of that. I think that that’s the group you got to reach. Forget about you’re not going to get AOC, Ilhan Omar, any of them. They don’t care. They’re off and running. They’re going to do their own thing. But I still think that there’s a reachable middle base, so to speak, that that needs to be addressed. That’s what I would say to Trump.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and I’m all for trying to reach that middle group as best as possible. I just know – yes, I agree Trump ought to be going on Twitter and not just on Truth Social. I totally agree with that. But to a certain extent, if we could just somehow, someway get the American public to see – What the actual truth is here, hold on a minute, Democrats are getting the status quo, Republicans are giving them their current spending levels, plus a little bit extra, and that’s not enough for the Democrats, and that’s why they put us through 42 days of this? Seriously? I think a lot of those middle people that you reference would turn on the Democrats, Neil. The trick is we’ve got to get that message to them.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay, 20 seconds from each of you, then I want to give some time to our sponsors, but Come the midterm elections, so one year from right now, how much of this will make a difference? Bob, what do you think? Was this going to make a difference in the polls or do people have short memories?

For all the great work that Trump’s been doing on foreign policy, it is going to be what are you doing for me lately. And so next summer, if the housing industry is improved, if inflation is inched down even further, if GDP is up, then I believe that Republicans are going to get rewarded.

John? I can’t disagree with that. In fact, what I would be doing, speaking of messaging and get ahead of things, we know that there’s going to be a Fed change in May of next year, really April, if you would. And a lot of things are going to change when it comes to interest rates and so on. That’ll be a boost, hopefully soon enough to get the housing end of things, as Bob just stated a moment ago, back on track. We’ve got to get ahead of that on the messaging side of things as well.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, I agree. Well, I think there’s an awful lot of skepticism towards big government, big pharma, big tech, et cetera, et cetera. Well, we continue here with the second half of the National Crawford Roundtable podcast. My name is Neil Boron hosting today’s conversation. Bob Dutko, The Bob Dutko Show on WMUZ in Detroit is with us. And John Rush, the host of Rush to Reason at KLZ in Denver, Colorado, is with us. You know, we touched on the media and media bias a little bit. Bob, you always talk about, and you’re right, the liberal media, the mainstream or legacy media, whatever you want to call it, running cover for the Democrat Party. The Democrats don’t have to be on point all the time because they know they’ve got the media to cover for them. And I think you’re 100 percent right. One of the things we saw, though, was some accountability. Finally, Donald Trump sued ABC and won. You know, it seems as though sanity is beginning to make a comeback. Ladies and gentlemen, we’re here to announce sanity is prevailing, it seems. Donald Trump threatened, this is fairly new here as far as the news goes, a billion dollar lawsuit against the BBC. And why? What’s really interesting about this is that what he’s saying happened, that they misrepresented his January 6th speech at the Capitol where he said, we’re going to walk down the to the Capitol and I’ll be there with you.” And then it went on to say, and we fight, we fight like hell. And if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not gonna have a country anymore, except the entire second half of that statement happened an hour later in a different context in that same speech. It was literally an hour later. So these two parts were put together as though the president was demanding that people get down to the Capitol building and fight like hell, as though he was promoting some kind of a riot at the Capitol. It’s not at all what he said. And what’s weird about all this related to the BBC is that we’ve seen this hundreds of times, maybe even thousands of times in the last few years since J6 of what was it, 2020? Anyway, I wanted to get some feedback from you guys on this because this is like it screams media bias, obviously, but we see this all the time. I don’t know what prompted him to go after the BBC or to threaten to go after the BBC, but maybe he sees them suffering and thinks he can help put them out of their misery at this point. He’s probably right. John, let me start with you on this one. A guy who’s never shy about saying what he thinks. Come on, man. What do you got for us there in Denver, Colorado?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and are the tides turning when it comes to media? Oh, maybe slightly. And again, one of those things where even in this particular case, got to get the message out that even some of these organizations have been successfully sued. They didn’t do things correctly. Again, this goes back to the conversation we had during the first half. How well do we do at actually messaging those things out and getting the average person to understand that these things are actually going on? Because unfortunately, most voters, not all, there are some that are educated, but most voters only look at one side. They’ll watch whatever, CNN or on our side, Fox News, or they watch their local news affiliate, which, by the way, is extremely, extremely liberal. I don’t know if there’s hardly any conservative local media. So at the end of the day, Neil, while that’s great, and I admire Trump for doing the things that he’s doing, it’s all fine and dandy. But if we don’t message that out and let people know what’s going on, what good is it?

That’s a good point. All right, Bob, your thoughts on this? Because obviously, here we go again.
SPEAKER 05 :
I’m just saying, look, I’m glad that we got somebody like Trump who’s willing to take on the media in this way and use the courts to do it. You’ve got to remember, BBC is public broadcasting over in Great Britain, but it’s not… It’s not like public broadcasting here in the U.S. Here in the U.S., public broadcasting, they solicit donations to try to supplement their government funding that they get in this country. Over in Great Britain, you are required as a citizen, if you have broadcast television in your home, you’re required to pay. It’s not like, you know, well, I’ll see if I want to donate to – no, you’re actually required to. You can be fined and even imprisoned if you refuse to pay the fee to keep BBC on the air. So BBC operates under a higher standard where they cannot have any bias. Now, they’ve always been left-wing bias. But to be this blatant – To take something that Trump says about as you prepare to walk down to the Capitol and then cut off when he says as you peacefully and patriotically let your voices be heard and instead go 54 minutes later where he’s talking about politically we’re going to fight like H. And then splice that up to it to make it look like he said march down to the Capitol and fight like H. No, that’s beyond acceptable. This is something that he’s right to call them out. And by the way, the head of BBC as well as the CEO of their news division, both of them have resigned as a result of this. The head of it says – well, this is my own decision and that was part of it. But no, let’s face it. They pretty much, I believe, were forced out for this. And I say, you know what? Good for Trump. Hold the media to account, even outside of this country.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. And in the you know, I said that he threatened a billion dollar lawsuit. But the letter that he wrote or that his legal team wrote to the BBC includes some demands. Number one, that they immediately issue a full and fair retraction of the documentary that was produced in any and other false, defamatory, disparaging, misleading and inflammatory statements about President Trump. in as conspicuous a manner as they were originally published, and number two, immediately issue an apology for the false, defamatory, disparaging, misleading, and inflammatory statements about Trump, and number three, appropriately compensate President Trump for the harm caused. And that’s maybe where the billion dollars comes in. Man, you go bigger, you go home, right? But on top of that, they were directed not to destroy any of the tapes or original recordings or anything that they have in their possession should all of this play out in the courts. We’ll see where it goes. But I also commend him for holding the media’s feet to the fire. Media was never held accountable previously. I don’t remember any other presidential… you know, regime that that the nationwide media was. In fact, they were looked at like doctors, really, in a way like, oh, you know, two people you can really trust are your national journalist who’s, you know, Dan Rather’s of the world. You write the guys sitting Walter Cronkite. These are the people they would never lie to you. They just they’re journalists. They’re unbiased. They tell you the truth. Not so much. Not really. And boy, Donald Trump has helped expose that in a big way. It’s huge. Anyway, kind of interesting to see where all that’s going. So then this came up during the first half of the roundtable. This came up in the first half, and I definitely wanted to touch on it today because, you know, What happened last week, some are calling and especially the Democrats love to call it a blue wave. I’m not convinced that’s true. And I think on last week’s podcast, I said, listen, this was like a home game for the Democrats. All these so-called big wins happened in blue states, places where it was for the most part expected that they would win. Now, did they have a good day? Yeah, they did. And I think Republicans definitely hope they had done better. I think Donald Trump was a little unnerved to some degree about what all happened there and what all of this might mean. But One sentiment that has been expressed know exit poll kind of information is that people are pretty unsettled about the economy and they feel like the issues of affordability haven’t really been addressed now uh donald trump john you mentioned this in the first half made the mistake of saying a lot about what he was going to do regarding prices and the cost of living that he was going to deal with things like housing affordability insurance costs supply chain issues and i think somewhere in there you know groceries was discussed etc um I don’t have the exact quote in front of me, but the point was, listen, the minute I become president, costs are coming down. It’s going to be post Biden. It’s going to be Trump time and costs are going to come down. And they kind of haven’t that much. Has there been some relief? Yes, definitely. Gas prices are down. Thank God for that. But by and large, young people can’t buy houses. People feel like they can’t afford housing. You know, to purchase homes or to purchase automobiles, the cost of cars is very high and affordability is an issue. And, you know, Mary and I feel this when we go to the grocery store. So I don’t know what. Bob, let’s start with you this time. Come on. The bottom line is you can say everything you want to say. In fact, when some of these reports came out saying that people are dissatisfied with prices, you know, Donald Trump called it fake news. I don’t know that that’s a very good strategy because real people, conservatives and liberals alike, are feeling the pinch at the grocery store and stuff. So where do you go with this particular issue? It’s a hot button issue for the next election.
SPEAKER 05 :
I’m going to speak John’s language a little bit here. And I would like to see the Trump administration and the White House in general, and yes, the RNC, do a better job on this messaging. Okay, let people know. look, be patient. This is what we’re up against. This is what we’ve accomplished so far. And this is what is slower, but this is what’s coming. Now, I do believe as far as the housing market goes, Donald Trump has been pounding the issue repeatedly about Jerome Powell and how slow Jerome Powell has been in lowering interest rates. And this has had an effect ultimately, I believe, on the housing market itself. and interest rates for consumers. So he has pounded that message, but it’s been kind of a gunshot smattering of a message. I’d like to see a consistent, clear message from all of the Republicans and all of them about, here is what we have done, here’s what we’ve implemented, here’s where we’ve seen the results so far, and here’s what’s coming. This is the trend that we’re moving in right now. We wish it were faster than it was, but at least we are trending in this direction instead of trending in the direction under the Biden administration. So did Trump overpromise originally as far as timing? Yep, no doubt about that. But ultimately, I think we’re better off with the policies that we have right now, which, by the way, I’m kind of curious, just to throw in a side note, what you guys think of Donald Trump’s 50-year mortgage idea. My immediate gut reaction My immediate gut reaction was, oh, no, that’s terrible. What are you kidding me? You know, it compounds debt that much more. It’s just going to that much more interest being paid to the mortgage companies and whatever. But then there’s also part of me that says, well, look, this, you know, this falls on me. people that are irresponsible. If you take out a 50-year mortgage, you can still pay it off in 30 years by just paying the 30-year price and the extra goes to principal, but at least you’re covered for getting approved for that loan because the payment would be smaller and you just pay heavy every month. And when people say, well, you’re not going to be disciplined. Well, you know, if people are undisciplined, that’s on them.
SPEAKER 03 :
And that’s on them.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. To pay, to pay, you know, to pay double for your house. If you’re going to pay double for your house, that’s on you. If you’re not going to pay heavy to principal. But the more I think about it, the more I’m like, you know what, give, I hate to be this uncharitable, but give stupid people the option to be stupid. If they want to make just minimum payments only on their credit cards, same thing with minimum payments on their mortgages, but that doesn’t mean we don’t give them the option. The libertarian in me says give people the freedom of option.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yep, I agree.
SPEAKER 04 :
Give them the freedom to be stupid. I love it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay, John, go ahead. Let me jump in because the same thing was said back in the day. I had this argument with a listener the other day talking about the very subject where it’s ironic. We’re talking about the exact same thing I was a couple of days ago because we got into the whole conversation of affordability and The housing end of things, which I want to counter what you said a moment ago about not being able to afford things. I’ll get to that in a moment. But do I have a problem with a 50-year mortgage? No. If somebody wants that and they feel like they can handle it and do what Bob just said or not do what Bob just said. Totally on them. The same thing happened in the auto industry. I can remember all of the naysayers back in the day when a 60 month, you know, I say mortgage on a car, 60 month car loans came out. Then they went to 72. Then they went to 84. And in some cases they’re now talking about, you know, should we make them 120, 10 years? And here’s the reality, much like homes. They’re better than they used to be. Can you buy a car on a 72-month loan and still be okay at the end of 72 months? Absolutely, because most cars today, very rare will they not run 300,000 miles. They’re far better than they ever used to be. So at the end of the day, did that long-term loan on a car… kill the entire car industry. No, it did not. Now, are new cars way higher than they used to be? They are, but you’re getting a lot more for your money. Believe me, I’ve grown up in that industry. Cars today are far better than they’ve ever been in their entire lifetime. You now drive, you know, you now basically steer a car. I always say it this way. You steer a new car, you drive an old car. They’re totally different than they used to be. Now, Neil, really quick, back to the whole affordability thing on, you know, these young kids can’t buy a new house. Yeah, because their expectations are too stinking high. My first house was a 900-square-foot house that I had to go through and basically redo the entire thing. And at the end of the day, I wasn’t buying a 2,500-square-foot house like a lot of these new kids want to start out with. So their expectations are too high, to be honest with you.
SPEAKER 05 :
What a great point. But I got you beat, John. My first house was 1,100 square feet. So, you know. You’re absolutely—that is so true, okay? There’s nothing wrong with starting small and working your way up. But, yeah, I do see these, you know, the 28-year-old with a couple of little babies, and they’re buying a 3,000-square-foot home, and they’re buying— And there’s two brand-new cars in the driveway with loans on those as well, Bob.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, we didn’t do that.
SPEAKER 05 :
When I did mine, you drove an old car because that’s all you could afford. I know. And so it’s like, okay, well, guess what? They have $4,500 a month instantly for two cars and their mortgage. It’s like, okay, is that really necessary when you’re in your 20s starting out? I didn’t do it that way. You didn’t do it, John, that way either. So people today, it’s like, I want it all and I want it now. No, take your time and work your way up.
SPEAKER 03 :
And again, going back to some of our kind of our theme today, messaging. We’re not teaching and messaging these kids that, you know what, your folks didn’t start off with 2,500 square feet or 3,000 square feet. You know, my first home that I rented, by the way, was a trailer in a trailer park. I mean, guys, come on. Most kids wouldn’t do what I did.
SPEAKER 04 :
I knew it, John. I knew it. I knew that that was in your history somewhere. That’s me. But you’re making a really great point, but then it kind of comes down to, and I didn’t mean to get into this, but let’s just talk about it for a second. The whole idea, they say you can’t legislate morality. Can you legislate common sense when it comes to financial decision-making? I know a young woman who some time ago Got $10,000 because her grandfather had passed away and got some money. And this is nobody directly in my family, but blew it, just blew it like it was water. Went out and bought a bunch of clothes, then was pretty distraught and felt like, well, now I don’t have any money to spend. But she had just turned 18, so she gets a credit card in the mail that offers her a $5,000 credit limit. She was overjoyed that she was going to have $5,000. She said, I got $5,000 now I can spend. And I said to her, no you have a shovel that you can dig a five thousand dollar hole with like you gotta understand what debt can do to you long term and if you get a bunch of young people that have these high expectations they want a three hundred thousand dollar home and i gotta believe in places like toronto that’s in our listening area up here in the western new york southern ontario area you’re really looking at young people that are looking at homes of 800 to 1.5 million you know like that they’re really like they’re stretching for the stars. They’ve got these brand new cars in the driveway and they think that debt won’t get them in the end. But consumer debt continues to rise. National debt continues to rise. And at some point it’s got to implode, right? At some point, all of this stupidity has to implode. And do you just let that happen?
SPEAKER 03 :
So in other words, if you pass- And really quick, it’s not going to implode. I did the math on this the other day. Between the baby boomers and the next generation, there’s $140 trillion worth of wealth. Nothing is imploding.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. All right. Yeah. But I mean, so then the motivation here is to get the economy going again or to make housing. Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes. Yes.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 03 :
And by the way, the way to make things more affordable, again, another message we should be putting out, RNC, Donald Trump, et cetera. I know Trump does fairly well, but… In his defense, he’s got 100 things on his plate. So I’m not faulting him at all on some of this. But those around him could be doing a better job of messaging. The best way to help affordability, get more money in people’s pocket by getting the economy rolling. Now, I get it. Jerome Powell is doing everything possible. By the way, we didn’t talk about this earlier. He, I believe, had a lot of effect upon this last election as well. It wasn’t just what happened with the shutdown. You can blame Jerome Powell for a lot of what just happened as well. And it was the desire of the Fed to do just that, in my opinion.
SPEAKER 05 :
Got it. This notion of waiting as long as he did and then a piddly quarter point. All right, another quarter point. No, he should have done this aggressively. The housing market could be rebounding right now. It could be exploding in the spring. Because when the Fed lowers the rate, it doesn’t instantly transfer to mortgage interest rates. But a few months later, though, it trickles to the mortgage interest rates. That’s right. We could maybe be seeing four, four and a half, maybe 5% interest rates in the spring. And then if that happens, watch what happens to the housing market. Not to mention we get a borderline refi mania happening again.
SPEAKER 03 :
Bob, I believe that, you know, you’re talking about the strategy that the Democrats had on the shutdown. I believe the Fed got thrown into that as well. And people will argue with me on that all day long. But let me tell you what, Jerome Powell is not unbiased. He is very biased and hates Trump.
SPEAKER 05 :
Very biased. He’s totally putting his thumb on next year’s midterm election.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s right. That’s exactly right.
SPEAKER 05 :
He knows full well that if he can drag his feet, then he can slow down the housing recovery of the country. Slow down the activity in the housing market and home purchasing because, like I said before, what’s it going to depend on next year? What does the economy look like in America in the summer? That, to me, is going to be a big deal next year. And if we had an exploding housing market, then I believe this would be beneficial for Republicans. Jerome Powell knows that. That’s why he dragged his feet.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, which begs the question, who’s he ultimately working for? Like, what’s going on behind the scenes that we don’t know? Anyway, we’ll talk about it some other time. Absolutely. Okay, so real quick here, speaking of Democrat, who is the Democrat Party these days? I mean, who would have ever imagined that Zoran Mandami… Overwhelming the elected mayor of New York City, a socialist, some calling him a communist in the cradle of capitalism. Like what is happening? Okay, right. So AOC feels empowered. People are saying she’s a possible candidate for president next year. Is this the party – well, let me just ask this. I’ve got a lot of long-term friends and acquaintances and my parents’ friends that are still living, et cetera, that are just lifelong Democrats because they thought that the Democrat Party was about unions and working hard and – you know, mom, apple pie and Chevrolet. Like that’s what it was about. Well, this isn’t the Democrat party that anybody I know grew up in. And so who is the Democrat party today who ultimately has the real power? Is Schumer just a puppet? Pelosi’s getting out of this thing. So your thoughts quick, we don’t have a lot of time here, but I’m just curious what, how you would define today’s Democrat party and who ultimately has the sway who’s calling the shots, John.
SPEAKER 03 :
They’re Marxists, one word. I don’t have to add anything to it. They are Marxists through and through.
SPEAKER 05 :
Stole my two-word answer. They’re Marxists.
SPEAKER 04 :
So the idea that there’s just an innocent – because I think that there are still – I call them innocent Democrat voters, meaning they’re just, well, I vote Democrat because my parents were Democrat, and that’s what I do. They haven’t really – what did you call them? What did Rush Limbaugh call them? Low –

Low information voters.

Low information. So are we saying that there’s still an awful lot of low information Democrat voters, right, who haven’t figured this out yet?

The party’s been hijacked by Marxists. Bob, your thoughts on that?

Really quick, what I keep saying on air is these are people that are basically throwing their hat in the ring for Marxism. They don’t know it, but they are.

And Marxism, okay, just like Satan is a master disguiser, okay, he disguises and camouflages himself with other things. It’s socialism, Marxism, communism, and this is what’s selling right now to the uneducated voter, and the Marxists in the country are buying it, knowing full well what they’re buying. Seattle’s mayor is a socialist, just got elected mayor, a socialist. You got New York City, a socialist and a Muslim. You got the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia now, a Muslim, all right? You have a town in Pennsylvania that just elected a transgender mayor, okay? All right. This is today’s Democrat Party. And I think that the moderates in the Democrat Party are basically boiling frogs who are like, well, hey, OK, it’s, you know, they’re caring about people and they don’t see what’s happening to their own party.
