Okay, we’re going to have Shelby Oaks, which is a little bit of a horror movie, and then some anime. Okay, I got an anime film called Chainsaw Man, which may well be the top-selling movie of the week.

And I assume next Friday because it – make sure I have my dates right here. Since it is Halloween, we’ll be doing some sort of scary movie Halloween nonsense, right?
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, yeah, and the hour two will be scary movies.

Obviously.

So we already know that will be next week.

Of course you are, John. Well, a YouTube critic, movie critic actually, makes a horror movie called Shelby Oaks.

Welcome back to the Paranormal Paranoid. Today we’re taking our first foray into the abandoned town of Shelby Oaks.
SPEAKER 12 :
I’ve been searching for Riley for the last 12 years. I know my sister’s not dead.
SPEAKER 13 :
Bodies were found outside of Shelby Oaks. Riley Brennan is still missing.
SPEAKER 11 :
The last night I saw her, she said she saw a man standing in her window.
SPEAKER 12 :
You live alone out here?
SPEAKER 08 :
Finally. What do you think, John? Scary?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, sounds like it. The preview looks like it.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, it looks very scary. Okay, well, Chris Stuckman, that’s actually his name, he does movie reviews on YouTube. Real guy.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 08 :
So now he gets reviewed himself. And I thought this would be kind of interesting because we movie critics… We all say what we would do differently with the movie, right? It should have had more of this, less of that, none of this, none of that, whatever. And what if we actually made an entire movie because that’s an entirely different thing. I think about football fans. We all say, hey, we should have gone for it on fourth or no, take the points, or we disagree with how the coach does it. But what if you had to run an entire football team and you had to deal with all the mechanics of that? That’s a lot. So I just thought it was pretty interesting that Stuckman was putting himself out there to actually get reviewed himself. Here we go now. The story is 12 years ago, Riley, she’s played by Sarah Dern. She was a YouTuber, okay, doing videos on haunted homes. And when she went missing in a small town in Ohio called Shelby Oaks. No, J.D. Vance had nothing to do with it. I know you were suspecting. I just thought this was kind of interesting. Ohio, I have never seen a horror story about Ohio. So that was interesting. Anyway, her filming crew was actually found brutally murdered, but she just disappeared. Now, Riley’s sister, Mia, her name is Camille Sullivan, that’s the actress, is being interviewed for the documentary. Mia is still determined to learn the truth of what happened, so they go to Shelby Oaks, she and her film team. Well, this seems more historical than scary, John, but then something horrible happens. Someone kills themselves right in front of Mia. Wow. Now Mia must study the history of Shelby Oaks as she investigates its sinister origins. Well, this, of course, has Mia talking to the locals. You’ve got this witchy woman. You’ve got a prison that they have to walk through. It’s very scary. You have, you know, the usual horror film stuff. What matters is that she’s discovering how this little abandoned town could take her sister. And maybe, just maybe, it will threaten Mia and her crew. Well, convinced that Riley might still be alive, Mia pushes forward, even without her film crew. So she decides, even without them, I’m going to look into some of this stuff. And so suddenly this is not done in documentary style anymore. It’s done as a straight movie, just watching Mia try to investigate this. But what if Mia finds Riley? Then what? Or what if she doesn’t? Danger and mystery lurk around every corner in Shelby Oaks. What do you think?
SPEAKER 04 :
Doesn’t sound bad. Yeah, I mean, it does sound like a good movie.
SPEAKER 08 :
Sounds pretty interesting, right? Looking into her sister and what happened. Okay, well, what works in Shelby Oaks? Well, first of all, the beauty of these found footage movies is the raw, real look. Okay? That adds to the scariness, since it feels like this is really happening. And I’ve always kind of liked that feel for horror films. to make them feel more real. And it does that. Second, you’ve got a good mystery combined with jump scares and horror. A lot of these horror films are pretty straightforward. This one has a real mystery, and it unfolds to you. There’s much more investigation in this film than most horror movies, and there’s a cop in it. And he sounds very real. I like that they got this cop in it. And he adds a real, I don’t know, just a feeling of, yes, this is an investigation. This is what we did. This is how it broke down. And that helped the movie a lot. Next, you got some scary moments being pursued in an underground hallway. I hate that. dimly lit underground hallways in horror movies, don’t you?
SPEAKER 03 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 08 :
I mean, they’re terribly scary. I’m not saying that you’ve got two girls following you like in The Shining, but it’s icky. Okay. And it’s really good. You have some plot twists as the true villain finally changes. You think it’s this one. Nope, it’s this one. Nope, it’s this one. And I like that. It kind of moves it around, moving target. Finally, Camille Sullivan, she does a good job as the dogged investigator and a screen queen. And she does a real good job in the movie. Now, what doesn’t work in Shelby Oaks? Because, once again, Stuckman, he got his chance to do it. And let’s see how he did. First of all, there’s far too little horror. This is a horror movie. You need more horror. And it really fell short. Very slow pace. Pretty much a collage of other films. Okay. You take some Blair Witch Project, you add some hereditary, mix in some paranormal activity, add water, stir, voila, you got a movie. Basically, he was borrowing from all kinds of other movies, not doing his own thing, not charting his own course. And so it had this feeling of, geez, I’ve seen this before again and again and again. It’s not so bad.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 08 :
But it just wasn’t that good. What begins as a focused story, and it did, well, it becomes bits and pieces falling from the sky. Now, I understand it’s because it’s a mystery, right? You’re getting a little here, a little there. But it’s just too scattered. By midway, oh, the film is dragging badly. And it really did.
SPEAKER 03 :
Hmm.
SPEAKER 08 :
You don’t want to be in one of these mixed kind of found footage, normal footage movies where the story just grinds to a halt. And they literally could have cut, I would say, 15, 20 minutes out of the inner hour of this movie and sped it up, and it would have been much better. Okay. It’s terribly implausible with Mia walking into extremely dangerous situations alone and unarmed. I’m sorry. We always… You know, you’ve seen horror movies where there are always several times you say, don’t go in there. Don’t open that door. Don’t go there.
SPEAKER 04 :
You know, it’s behind that door.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right. And we do it anyways. Well, yeah, but we can put up with some of that. But there there are degrees to where we say, no, that’s just too stupid. I wouldn’t do that. Right. No human being would be this dumb. Well, unfortunately, she is that dumb. And she walks right into some of these situations where you’re just like, hey, no, no, no, no. Especially somebody who investigates horror. Come on. You should know better. Yeah, only a complete idiot does these things.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right.
SPEAKER 08 :
But she’s shown to be an idiot. It doesn’t work.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, the final battle is done a lot like Weapons, the movie Weapons that came out this summer, which I said was the best movie of the year. Well, this was done with far less quality. So they tried to do similar to what Weapons did. Only Weapons was done extremely well. This was done, I think, on a very tight budget. Okay. Let’s just say that. It wasn’t as good. Bottom line, this is just a real yawner of a horror film.
SPEAKER 03 :
Hmm.
SPEAKER 08 :
Nobody was horrified. The audience wasn’t very big, but what people I saw in there, they didn’t come out going, oh, did you see that? There were no gasps or screaming or anything like that. There was no reaction at all. I mean, honestly, midway through, I should have walked through and checked everybody’s pulse because I didn’t have one, I know. So there you go. Rotten Tomatoes, for whatever reason, and maybe they were being kind to a fellow critic. They gave it 68%. Not great, but come on, man. It wasn’t that good of a movie. It just wasn’t that good. It’s too slow. Quality, I’m giving this one and a half stars.
SPEAKER 04 :
Wow, so the movie critic only gets one five. Yeah, I’m sorry. Just wasn’t that good, huh?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, and you know what the big thing is this, is I think a lot of times when we think that we would do what somebody else does, be it coach a team, run a business, whatever, we think about all the things that we would put in, but what we don’t think about is what we would edit out. And this guy left too many of his thoughts in the movie. It wasn’t edited well. That was the biggest problem with this movie.
SPEAKER 04 :
What kind of budget do you think this thing had?
SPEAKER 08 :
low i would say okay just low okay you know and which is part of the other factor people forget at times right it costs money to do these things yeah and by the way it’ll probably make money just because of that why because there are a lot of people who know this guy i’m gonna go watch it period right they’ll go watch a period it’s very low budget so unlike disney films this year it’ll actually make some money maybe i can’t imagine he’ll do a sequel okay um it’s just not worth it uh political three more religious three didn’t preach at all that i liked okay that part was good Yeah. Shelby Oaks is just a creepy little horror movie that had some horror moments. Don’t get me wrong. When she is trying to get away, and I won’t explain it all, but trying to get away coming out of the hallway, there are some camera tricks done in there that are very scary. Very nicely done. And I was thinking, there you go. Man, you nailed that scene. And then back to reality. And it just wasn’t very good. So, now, do I recommend going to Shelby Oaks? Absolutely not. I don’t know what horror movies are coming out next week even. I haven’t looked. But I’m sure they’re going to be better than this. Wait for Halloween.
SPEAKER 04 :
And do you think that timing was done, I’m guessing, purposely because you know all the big stuff’s next week?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Give it a little more flair maybe?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Bottom line, John, if they thought that they had a winner here, they would have put it out on Halloween.

Okay. So they put it out the week ahead of Halloween, which – You’ve already got some horror movies because they’re coming out all year round nowadays because they’re cheap and Hollywood needs to save money. You already had some that came out in September and very early October, but nothing for the last couple weeks. So this was a real good pocket of time to release this. But no, if they thought they had something good, they would have released it a week later. So don’t go to Shelby Oaks. Not worth it.

John, do you get any feel for that movie at all? None. Zilch. I know. This is going to be really weird because, once again, this comes from the world of anime. All right? So Chinese animation, which, by the way, I like. I like a lot of anime. There’s a lot of anime that’s really boring and silly, but some of it is just incredible. Well, this is going to be less of a movie review and more introducing you to another world. Are you ready? All right. Chainsaw Man is a popular anime series, and it’s only had 12 episodes so far. And they are very popular. People just love them. It’s a sensation. Just so you know, it is an online sensation. The star character is named Denji, and he’s a Japanese teenager living in a time when devils prowl and destroy. Now, these devils come from our collective fears, and they take terrible forms. There is an organization called Public Safety that hunts the devils down, and it’s led by a woman named Makima. Okay, so how does Denji get involved in all this? Well, Denji, he’s an orphan who’s been exploited, so he’s very, very poor. And his only friend was a dog that was merged with a chainsaw devil. Once again, these things are things that… They represent our biggest fears, so chainsaws, bombs, guns. So you’ve got gun devil, you’ve got bomb devil, you’ve got chainsaw devil, and so forth. And devils, just so you know, once again, it’s not the devil. In Japan, devils are a very different thing. They’re still bad, okay, but they’re not quite what we’re used to, say, in the Christian faith. It’s very different. All right, well, at one point, Denji must merge with Pochita. That’s his dog. Okay. Okay, and he’s got to merge with the dog to save it, and he becomes the devil hybrid chainsaw man.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 08 :
And so he literally has a chainsaw that comes out of his head, out of his hands, and so forth. Multiple chainsaws. So by pulling a cord, literally pulling a cord in his chest, Denji actually grows chainsaws out of himself to battle the other devils. Are you following this?
SPEAKER 03 :
I think so.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, it’s very weird, I know. Anime can get so weird. Well, anyway, this leads Denji to work with public safety, where he has a crush on Makama. Remember, she’s in charge of it. Now, Makama, she’s a demon hybrid herself. She is able to dominate men. OK, she can control their minds, which, by the way, I think all women actually have this power. So I’m not sure this is unique, but Makama can control men. She can, you know, use the eyes on them and they literally would do will do whatever they want, whatever she wants. As such, Denji, who, let’s face it, is a hormone filled teenage boy. Well, he wants her. He wants Makama. But then Denji meets something new, a girl named Reze. And she is very pretty, too. Now, she shares Denji’s kind of gross teen humor. She’s not as mature as Makama. And she actually cares about Denji. Makama was using Denji for cheap labor. So Denji, he’s going out there, and this is part of the 12… series, right? He goes out there and fights all these demons. You know what his pay is? Room and board. That’s it. So she says to him, hey, you’re being misused for crying out loud. You should get paid more than this, right? How can you put up with this? You should quit. Well, anyway, a cute romance comes forth. As Reze and Denji, they do all the flirty things teens do, even skinny dipping. Oh, my goodness. But Reze, she says Denji should, you know, he should quit. He should stop doing this because he’s underpaid for fighting dangerous demons. What? Well, eventually, a terrible, terrible, terrible force emerges, and Denji must fight against those who take advantage of him, but also the terrible devils themselves. This, of course, involves incredible action, right? And so you get all that anime action going around, sawing through this and battling that. Well, beneath it all, we see a theme. In our desperation, should we allow others to use us? And our desperation can take many forms. It can be because we’re poor. It can be because we’re lonely. It can be because we are hormone-filled teenagers. It can be for whatever reason. Everybody has a weak spot, John. And the question is, will you allow others to exploit it? And that’s kind of an underlying theme of Chainsaw Man. What do you think?

Very weird. Yes. Okay. Well, what works in Chainsaw Man? Well, the cartoonistry is off the charts.

Wonderful. Yeah. Not the best I’ve ever seen. I saw better recently with some anime, but it’s up there. It’s really impressive.

Okay.
SPEAKER 08 :
And both in the quiet sequences and the raging 3D action, by the way, this was 3D. I was surprised by the charming nature of the teen romance. Though, you know, Benji, he’s sex craved, of course. And so he’s really struggling because on the one hand, he loves Makiman. On the other hand, he loves this new girl. And he’s really struggling with that. But he’s a teenager. He’s a teenage boy. And I kind of like how they show the real struggle that a teenage boy might have. Okay. There is a good message here. In that Denji’s inability to read or write, that’s another weakness. Okay, he’s illiterate.

Yeah, because he was too poor. He couldn’t go to school.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, gotcha.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, that combined with his teen hormones makes him vulnerable to deception. Gotcha. Knowledge is power, folks.

Right.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, the second half is action-packed with battles against hopeless odds. And you do have some humor. There’s some funny moments dealing with him being a teen. Finally, this film delivers what fans want. personal story from denji right plus bloody action so that’s what the people are there for and there was actually a pretty good crowd for this movie there were a lot of people who wanted to see this movie it’s very popular okay what doesn’t work in chainsaw man well the biggest question with any of these tv series brought to the big screen is what am i going to be lost If I walk into this, am I going to be lost or will it help me catch up real quick? It doesn’t. This movie doesn’t help you catch up at all. Yes, you will be lost. You won’t know the characters and they don’t care. Just so you know. You do kind of pick it up. You pick up the story as it goes. Don’t get me wrong, but it would really help to catch a few episodes first. Next, in fact, without knowing the show itself, the action, that gets confusing too. It’s so big and all over the place and fast. You know how the Marvel movies, it feels like you’re in a kaleidoscope or… Yeah, it’s just on a roller coaster or whatever. It gets that way in this movie to where you’re just kind of like, okay, settle down for a moment and just have the battle, right? The first half… Now, this is really shocking for me. It’s pretty much all Denji. No Chainsaw Man, okay? It takes forever getting to the big action scenes. So, this movie’s called Chainsaw Man. You don’t see Chainsaw Man, really. I mean, you see a little at the beginning, but you don’t see him until over halfway into the movie. Nearly two-thirds of the movie is gone just watching Denji deal with his feelings. I mean, do you think that’s why these young people go to this?

No, they look bored. Okay.
SPEAKER 04 :
They’re done, huh?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, it takes forever getting to the action. It’s very, very slow, and also it needed much more humor. They could have done more humor. They proved it at a couple points, but, boy, it needed a lot more. Next, they put a cliffhanger ending on this. So we have to watch the show? That’s a ripoff. Come on. Make the movie stand on its own. Don’t force us to go watch a show. I’m not going to go watch the show.

I know the fans will, I get it, but come on. Finally, the bottom line. This film is for fans of the show and anime, if you like anime. Anyone else, I believe, is going to be bored with this movie. I really do. So this is going to be kind of a hard one to review, right? Because I’m looking at the whole span of people who go to movies. So here we go. Rotten Tomatoes gave this 100%. Wow. Those who went to it gave it 99%. But they’re all fans of the show.

And they did get what they wanted. Quality, I’m going to give it three stars. So I am going to give it thumbs up.

And if you can hang in there until the second half, you’re going to see a lot of action, and that’s really good. So for you folks, go to Chainsaw Man. For everybody else, absolutely not. It has to be one of their really good movies for me to actually watch somebody like that. Right. Otherwise, if it’s one of their kind of halfway, it’s like, yeah, I can pass that one. I don’t need to see that.

Yeah, I’ll watch him in Con Air. I’ll watch him in Identity, a couple of his rom-coms, which are really good. But overall, it’s just like, man, Cusack, the thing is, you hate me so much. For voting for Donald Trump.

Yeah, and, you know, people forget because Whoopi has become such a caricature of herself, right? She’s become almost not a real person anymore. She’s such an activist. But what they forget is this. She wasn’t just a stand-up comic who did comedy. She was also a terrific actress. Okay, very, very talented. And then she just became so hate-filled that, you know.

Yeah, it does. It does with some of them. I mean, I’m trying to remember the guy that, yeah. I reviewed his movie last week, and I’m totally spacing him now. Anyway.

But some of them get to a point where it’s just hard to watch anymore.

Okay. So you said something earlier that I want to dovetail into because we don’t talk a lot of politics on Friday. But what you said earlier just struck something with me where it’s like, okay, that one needs a little further conversation on, and maybe we can get to a little bit more of it even on Tuesday. But when you talked about how a lot of movie stars that do their own editing – Right. Or, you know, produce a movie and then, you know, they’re involved in the editing and they’re involved some way, somehow.
SPEAKER 08 :
Where the film is their baby.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. They either edit, they either direct or they write or they write and direct where this film is their baby. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. So my comparison is, maybe this is a stretch, but I don’t think so. I think you’ll catch on to what I’m going to say here in a second. Very similar to what a lot of political parties do, but now especially here in Colorado, our own Colorado GOP, again, not the whole party, but those that are really in charge of what candidates run and so on. OK, the Colorado GOP right now that’s in charge of that is the movie maker that is doing is the actor that is making movies, that’s doing their own editing because they see things in a much different way than what the actual market actually is at the end of the day.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right. Yeah. We’ve seen this. Like I said, the last three campaigns we had for governor. Right. And Beaupre and Heidi and I forget the other one. They all of them needed serious editing.
SPEAKER 04 :
And then when you go further down to where you need to look at some of the local candidates that get pushed by the the Rhino Watchers of the world. Right. You talk about Rhino Watch running a candidate. Now it really is an actor making his own movie.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right. The Rhino Watch, the Rhino Watch backed candidates. And I know, you know, we beat up on Rhino Watch all the time, folks.
SPEAKER 04 :
Rightfully so.
SPEAKER 08 :
Rightfully so, of course. But set that aside for a moment. I’m not being a hater here. I’m being honest, OK? Yeah. Rhino Watch and their candidates are very far divorced from the market.
SPEAKER 04 :
From reality, yes.

Well, they can run in deep red districts, okay? They can run in deep red. And we have a few who are serving in the legislature, but that’s okay. They’re in deep red districts. I don’t care, okay? But for the most part, then they go forth and they say, now we want our candidate to be running for CD this, CD that. I mean, major, you know, the U.S. House. the U.S. Senate, the governorship, and so forth. And you look at them and you’re just like, guys, Scott Bottoms, wonderful guy. And he is basically the Rhino Watch candidate right now.
SPEAKER 04 :
He’s their guy. He’s one of a couple.
SPEAKER 08 :
And, you know, guys. You would have to edit out, you know, see, editor, you would have to edit out a lot of what he wants to say for him to have any chance to sell to the Colorado market. You don’t understand the marketplace. You understand what’s in your head and you understand what you like. And therefore, you want to take what’s in your head and what you like and just put it out there.
SPEAKER 04 :
Good example.

Okay. Does the market want that?
SPEAKER 04 :
No.
SPEAKER 08 :

In most cases, the answer is no.

Right. And you see that with a lot of movies that are written and directed by the actors.

It just reminded me that a lot of times politics, especially conservatives, they will accuse Hollywood of doing this and doing that, and they’re terrible, and they can’t do this, and they can’t do that. And it’s like, well, you know, you’re kind of mimicking what happens to – Some folks in Hollywood, when you look at the candidates that you want to run at the end of the day, because really at the end of the day, you’re not any different than they are. The mindset is the same.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, well, you are demanding that the market like you and what you believe. Well, what if the market isn’t where you are? Well, you’re demanding it anyway. Well, isn’t that the same complaint we have about Hollywood that’s putting out this far left, just nutso stuff? And we say, they’re ignoring us. They’re ignoring the market. Exactly.

Yeah.

And by the way, let me give two examples. We were talking a break. And I’m going to give one left winger and one right winger. Okay. And these are actors who went on to produce and write. Rob Reiner.

Clint Eastwood. Both of them set their egos aside and let themselves be edited, and they did a wonderful job. They became two of the best directors we have seen come out of Hollywood. Certainly, they came out of the acting rings.

Wonderful. Can’t argue that. Yeah, and you’ve got a total left-winger. I mean, Rob Reiner is crazy. Oh, geez, absolutely. Oh, yeah, he is. In my view, this is personal view, folks, but in my view, he’s got serious issues.

Clint obviously leans pretty solidly right. But anyway, but both of them, they did a fantastic job. Why? Because they set their egos aside. They said, everything that comes into my head does not have to go on to the film. And this is what a lot of candidates have to do. One last thing.

One last thing. I didn’t know we were going to talk about this.

Or I would have brought out the, there’s a clip right now of Tom Cruise talking about this. And it’s wonderful. And Cruz, he came out against—he didn’t come out against left or right. He came out against left and right. He said, leave the politics out of it.

And it wasn’t just because he was talking about the market and you’re trying to sell. You can tell this man loves the market. He loves all people on both sides.

He wants to entertain them all. It’s like sports. Leave that out of it.

It’s not what that’s designed for.

It’s actually designed to be the opposite. So are movies, by the way. It’s designed— They should be designed to bring people together, not split them apart.

And I think Tom Cruise understands that.

You know who gets it, too? You know, Stallone. Now, Stallone’s a right winger.

Yeah, but Stallone doesn’t. Yeah, he comes out and he endorses Trump and he says, OK, I’m for Trump. But Stallone doesn’t go on all the talk shows beating up the left.

That’s right. He doesn’t bash everybody.

Right. Great point.

No, and again, some of you that are listening that might be thinking about running for office or maybe you currently are running for office, all of your personal beliefs and what you want to see done, unfortunately, while that’s great and it’s admirable and I respect you for them, in a lot of cases, you need to shrink that all the way down to three or four points and essentially focus there and put all the other stuff that you’ve got in the back of your head aside.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, and you know why John Rush knows that? Because John Rush knows marketing. Let me say this. We just had the no kings protest, which are ludicrous, of course. But when you are running to serve yourself and your needs and put forth what you want, then you’re running to be a king. When you are running to serve the people… Then you’re running in America.
SPEAKER 04 :
And you’re going to listen to your market and you’re going to talk to them and you’re going to run towards them, not away from them. We’ve got so many candidates on our side of the aisle especially because, by the way, the left has figured this out better than we have. Okay. And mainly because their message doesn’t change a whole lot. The left is the left is the left. Andy knows this better than anybody.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
But their message doesn’t really change much and they don’t have to go down different facets of things. And I’ll just say it straight up. It’s easier marketing-wise when you’re on their side of the aisle than ours because – They own everything. They control it at this point in time, especially here in Colorado. So it’s easy for them. Right. The left hasn’t moved further left.
SPEAKER 08 :
They’ve become more open about it.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s all they’ve done. Now, those of us on the right, you know, we’ve got all sorts of things that we want to see. And it could be everything from somebody that’s running for council to school board to a representative to you name it. And what happens is, and I see it because I’ve interviewed candidates over the years now for the past decade plus, you know, so many candidates, Andy, they will get some, I’m sorry to say it this way, some bug up their butt about something. That’s why they ran in the first place, which that’s great. That’s admirable. I get it. You don’t like whatever, you know, pick a topic. Right. You don’t like X, Y, Z. So you’re going to now run for office. Well, that’s great. But, you know, you’ve got thousands, in some cases, tens of thousands of constituents that have to vote for you. And you know what? That might not be one of their hot topics.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, yeah. And you’re running to serve them.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s not you.
SPEAKER 08 :
You’re a public servant.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. You’re not running for you. You’re running for them.
SPEAKER 08 :

And if you can’t get them to understand that because all you’re talking about is your pet peeve, that’s not going to win an election.

John, let me sum it up with this. Here is what I would like every single Republican out there who wants to run for office to do. I’m serious now. I’d like you to watch two movies. I’d like you to watch Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride. And I’d like you to watch Gran Torino by Clint Eastwood. And there are several more, but I’m just going to pick those two. And understand there is no agenda in either of them.

No, they’re great movies.
SPEAKER 08 :
Even though, you know, Clint is playing a very politically incorrect character in that movie, there’s actually no agenda.

But he ends up being politically correct in the end.

He really kind of redeems himself in the end.
SPEAKER 08 :
But he kind of brings it back to the middle because they also come to realize how good it is to have a tough guy like him around.

Right. Well, Rob Reiner also does no agenda whatsoever in The Princess Bride. Now, folks, what I mean is this.

Both of them have agendas, Rob Reiner especially.

You’re talking a far left wacko and a guy who leans pretty solidly right. Both of them set all their agenda aside, and what they did with those two movies is serve the public. They were public servants. And watch those movies and then apply that to your campaign.
