SPEAKER 11 :
It’s finally Friday on Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. So I tell him I’m a pro jack. And who do you think they give me? The Dolly Lama. So we finish 18, and he’s going to sniff me. And I say, hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know? And he says, oh, it won’t be any money. But when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness. So I got that going. And movie reviews with Andy Pate.
SPEAKER 16 :
I think that you got the wrong impression about me. I think in all fairness, I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do.
SPEAKER 06 :
What I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
SPEAKER 03 :
Gee, Ray, what do you want to do tonight?
SPEAKER 10 :
The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world.
SPEAKER 11 :
Stick a fork in me, Jerry. I’m done.
SPEAKER 06 :
Now, here is your host of Rush to Reason, John Rush.
SPEAKER 09 :
All right, it’s a Friday edition, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Myself, Andy Pate, Charlie Grimes. How’s Andy? Andy’s doing well, sir. We got three movies to go through here, but we’ll get Hunter from Cub Creek going first. Hunter, how are you today, sir? Doing all right, John. How are you? I’m doing very well. So talk to us about what’s going on, especially now in the furnace world, because that’s what’s running most of the time now.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I mean, what’s been going on is the weather’s been beautiful. Yeah, true, true. But, yeah, I mean, it is now. Now we’re getting these little cold spurts, and we’ve had a few here and there, but now the furnaces are running pretty. If your air conditioner is running, I would probably recommend you shut that off. But other than that, yeah, the furnaces are up and running, so we’re starting to see some of these calls come in. As always, make sure you’re checking those filters as it starts to get running. After that air conditioner’s ran all year long, that filter’s probably pretty grimy, so make sure that’s up and going, and then you shouldn’t be without heat in the night.
SPEAKER 09 :
What about the humidifier end of things? I know we’re kind of at time where things are getting drier now. Do you want to turn that back on now?
SPEAKER 07 :
yep absolutely so when you shut your when you shut your air conditioner down for the year that’s a good time to turn that humidifier on. Obviously we don’t want to run the humidifier and the air conditioner at the same time. If we do that we basically undo everything the air conditioners trying to do the air conditioners trying to cool so it’s trying to dehumidify so if your humidifiers running while your air conditioner.
SPEAKER 09 :
is running they’re working against each other um so yes the best time to do that is once you turn that air conditioner off um make sure you turn that humidifier on okay what other tips have we got for folks as we head down this and again as you said it’s going to be getting colder and colder already is i mean most everybody’s running their furnaces at night uh give us a few more tips along those lines as we head down this stretch into the colder months
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I mean, if you do run into issues or anything like that, always check the furnace filter first. I know I’m guilty of it. Sometimes I think, oh, I changed the filter a month ago, and then I get an inkling to go check it, and it’s packed filthy, and it’s been six months since I changed it. So anytime you have an issue, even if you think that you changed the filter recently, double-check that, and then also that way we don’t have to sound like tech support when we’re talking to you and, did you turn it on? Good point. The other thing is make sure that you’ve got the disconnects are on, the breakers are on if you see anything like that. If you smell gas or anything like that, make sure you shut the gas off and then that is something that is a hazard and Excel does offer free inspections if you do suspect a gas leak. So if you do have any concerns about a gas leak or anything else, make sure to give them a call. You can also call us and we can check for you, but they have 24-hour emergency service and they can help you take care of that as well.
SPEAKER 09 :
Great way to say it. I also know folks, I say this a lot, but they can make an appointment online. Walk us through that if you would.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, so if you go to our website at cubcreekhvac.com, right there you have the option to talk to, we have an AI chatbot that can help you out with simple questions, stuff like that. But there’s also at the top right of the page, there’s a book now option you can book on there. You can click on that and it’ll walk you through, you know, what you’re looking for and everything else, what service you need, anything from a tune-up to a swamp cooler shutdown, whatever that is. You can click on that, and then it’ll automatically populate all of our available times, so you can pick that there, and then we get a notification on our end that you’re scheduled, and we’ll be out there on that day you scheduled us.
SPEAKER 09 :
Give us that website one more time. It’s CubCreekHVAC.com. All right. And all of you that may have missed that, if you’re driving, keep in mind, you always go to KLZRadio.com or RushToReason.com. Find Cub Creek there. You can click on the link. It takes you right to what Hunter just talked about. Hunter, man, I won’t talk to you probably before Thanksgiving. We’ll be in touch with you, of course, between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. But you and your entire family, have a great Thanksgiving. You as well, John. I appreciate you very much, Hunter. Have a good evening, sir.
SPEAKER 07 :
You too. Thank you.
SPEAKER 09 :
We’ll do it. All right. Appreciate it again. Cup Creek Heating and Air Conditioning. Dr. Scott’s up next. And when it comes to your medical care, let’s do health care, not crisis care. 303-663-6990.
SPEAKER 12 :
What if you could get over 110 lab biomarkers tested, just like Dr. Mark Hyman advertises, but for a fraction of the cost, and with a doctor who actually explains the results? At Castle Rock Regenerative Health, Dr. Scott Faulkner has recreated this powerful biomarker test panel at a substantial savings. For the month of November, we have a special price for both men and women. just $689. That’s a savings of over $2,500 over the standard price. And here’s the difference. With Hyman, you get numbers on a page. With Castle Rock Regenerative Health, you get Dr. Faulkner and his team walking you through every result, showing what’s off and creating a personalized plan to fix it. What’s even better, you don’t even have to be a concierge patient to get this pricing. This is open to everyone. Think about it. Most people’s deductible is higher than this special price. And your regular doctor, if he could get approved by your insurance, would never order this many tests, let alone know what to do with them. Call 303-663-6990 today or visit CastleRockRegenerativeHealth.com. That’s 303-669-6990. Take control of your health at Castle Rock Regenerative Health.

SPEAKER 18 :
I was kind of concerned that my insurance company that I had previously was going to either cancel me or increase my premium. When Dave came over and he said, Gil, he said, your roof looks good. I will give you a bid. And he said, I can give you a warranty of five years. And I said, whoa, that’s great.
SPEAKER 08 :
Would you recommend RoofMax to friends, family or neighbors and why?
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, because they were very prompt in getting the job done. They were very efficient in the time, maybe three days to four days max to get everything, paperwork, come and inspect my roof and complete the job. The price was very good. I was very impressed with the appearance of our roof after it was completed. So yes, absolutely, I would recommend RoofMax and especially Dave Hart.
SPEAKER 08 :

SPEAKER 09 :

SPEAKER 05 :
Suck it up, buttercup. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 06 :
Welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate and John. Are you ready for a movie?
SPEAKER 09 :
Maybe.
SPEAKER 06 :
Maybe.
SPEAKER 09 :
I don’t know about this one.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, maybe not this one. We’ll find out. Well, John, it’s back to Oz for a musical conclusion in Wicked for Good.
SPEAKER 01 :
Alpha Bithrop, I know you’re out here. Just come in before the monkeys spot you.
SPEAKER 13 :
There’s no going back. This is between us, the wizard, and I. The Wicked Witch can’t elude us forever.
SPEAKER 16 :
Not with Prince Fiyero and his squadron hot on her trail.
SPEAKER 13 :
The wonderful Wizard of Oz. No one believed in you more than I did. Elphaba. They’re coming for you.
SPEAKER 01 :
I’ve heard it said That people come into our lives for a reason I know I’m who I am today
SPEAKER 17 :
Think of what we could do together.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right, John. Obviously, this is not the kind of movie that you want to see.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, no, they sing too much.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, let me just be honest, folks, right away. In the audience, in Wicked for Good, it was over 90% female.
SPEAKER 09 :
That makes sense.
SPEAKER 06 :
Now, I watched a movie that I’m going to do in the third segment today, Sisu Road to Revenge. Every single person in the audience was a guy. But this one, we’re talking about two girl bosses fighting over the same boy while removing the bad white man leader to a musical and dance. Okay, this is not for guys. I’m just going to be honest. I’m not being sexist. I’m being honest about who was in. And by the way, there was not a single man in the audience who was not dragged there by a woman.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. Just being honest.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, it would make sense.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right. Well, John, in the first Wicked, we see two witches grow into different characters. You got Glinda the Good and Elphaba the Wicked. With seemingly endless musical numbers, Wicked showed us the corrupt side of Oz, where a charlatan wizard with no powers oppresses animals. Well, basically, Wicked was PETA plus wokeness meets endless singing and preaching. That was wicked, really. Okay, in Wicked for Good, Glinda, who’s played by Ariana Grande, is being promoted by the evil Madame Morrible, who’s played by Michelle Yao, as the glittering image of Oz, a happy face preaching happy thoughts in honor and obedience to the unscrupulous wizard played by Jeff Goldblum, who I like, by the way.
SPEAKER 09 :
I do, too. Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
Everybody in this is very talented. Meanwhile, Elphaba is at war with the wizard. She exposes him while he hunts her. This produces a lot of acrobatic broom flying and action scenes. So that’s pretty cool, right? Kind of, oh, Harry Potter-ish. I’ll just say that. But there are personal issues, John. Glinda is promised in marriage to the handsome Prince Fiyero, played by Jonathan Bailey. But Fiyero, he has his eyes on Elphaba. And, of course, Elphaba and Glinda, they struggle with being at war when they just want to be the best of friends. Well, throughout it all, we see elements of bigotry, with Elphaba being an outcast for her green skin. And also tyranny, with Morrible planning power grabs with the wizard. After all, Morrible has learned Elphaba’s kryptonite, supposedly. It’s water! Right? Throw water in the Wicked Witch. So Morrible brings a girl from Kansas to end the threat to Oz. So we learn who was wicked for good in Wicked for Good. What do you think?
SPEAKER 09 :
Not my movie, but that’s okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, well, that’s all right.
SPEAKER 09 :
As you know, it’s just not me.
SPEAKER 06 :
We do reviews for everyone here. That’s right. Okay, well, what works in Wicked for good? All right, well, obviously, this has a spectacular look with eye-catching CGI and colorful set designs. Everything that you want in a big blockbuster. Just the big look of it all. It has it. Glinda, she goes through a serious self-realization process. In other words, she’s very, very popular, but she has to give that up to be brave and loyal to her friend. Now, Grande and Cynthia Erivo, by the way, she plays Elphaba. The two of them have fantastic singing voices. You probably already knew this. And the flight scenes are very impressive. I’m going to say something down on this right now, though. They should have done more of the flight scenes. It was cool. When you’ve got really cool flight scenes, you should probably fit those in a little bit more. They had a few, but they could have done a lot more with it and maybe had more aerial battles. They could have had some more fun with that. Anyway, there’s less scattering of characters in this movie than the first one, which I liked, because the first one had too many characters and it got too spread around and it really dragged it down. This focuses more on the leads, and it’s much more touching. There’s a scene right toward the end with each of them, Elphaba, and Glinda on each side of the same door. And it’s like the scene from Frozen. It’s very, very touching. And of course, you do have a couple really big time songs. No Good Deeds, Goes Unpunished, Elphaba sings that. I’ll be honest, it’s not. The problem with that is that it was it could have been an incredible song. However, it got a little confusing at times. Anyway, what doesn’t work in Wicked for Good? Now, first of all, I’m just going to say it. Groupies are not going to care.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, the groupies for this movie, and… This movie got definitely quite a bit worse reviews on average. We’ll get to that in a moment. Then the first one did. The groupies, though, gave it 97%. Okay? And it’s just the groupies aren’t going to care about everything that I’m about to say about this movie that’s negative. The groupies will not care. They’re going to love everything about it. It could be a white screen for two and a half hours, and they would be happy. I’m just being honest. All right. First of all, John, this is a very poorly edited film. And I mean very poorly in that one story was clearly stretched for two movies for profits, which is kind of wild having these woke preachers of helping the downtrodden wanting to get richer. So they spread it into two movies and make their fans buy two tickets. I thought that was kind of funny. Every single emotion or plot point. Now, listen to me here. This is the biggest problem with this movie by far. By the way, I brought my wife and she said the exact same thing.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
Every single emotion, every plot point had to be told to us, sung to us, and if possible, danced to us, and each time it took five to seven minutes. There was about 45 minutes of story in two hours and 17 minutes of movie. Awful. And I remember at one point, because we were about 40 minutes into the story, and I leaned over and And I said, honey, I think I’ve seen maybe 10 minutes of actual story. Wow. It can be something as simple as I’m going to walk. I’m going over to the stairs. I’m going to the stairs. I’m going to the stairs. I’m going to go. to the stairs and here’s how, let me dance about going to the stairs. I’m going to preach about going to the stairs and then I’m going to go to the stairs. But will I go up? Will I go down? Will I go up? Will I go down? Let me explain it to you. In fact, I’m going to show you some charts and graphs here. Let me show you this. Let’s get out the whiteboard. I mean, it was unbelievable. They over-explained absolutely every single emotion, dragging out each emotion just eternally. And every single plot point, so many times you’re just sitting there saying, will you please, for the love of Pete, just do it. Whatever it is. I don’t care what it is. Just do it. Wow. Unbelievable. This was the slowest moving storyline possibly of the entire year. I mean, there have been a few doozies, so it’s right up there with them. OK, next. The music was pretty average in the first film, maybe a little above average. But really, most musicals have very good music. All right. It was below average in this one overall. The final song is the best, just like in the first movie, but the final song here is definitely a step down from the final song in the first movie. And I mean, folks, if you want to watch a woke movie that has incredible music that moves the pace, you’d watch The Greatest Showman. Okay. Then you got great song, great song, great song, great song. And they’re all very different and they’re all incredibly catchy. In this one, virtually nothing is catchy. Two or three are, but that’s not enough. It’s a long movie. Right. I was very disappointed in the music. I thought there was some great dancing, especially in the first half. That was very interesting. Not so much with the leads, but with a lot of the supporting cast. And that was good, but that doesn’t hold up the movie. Next. The entire Fiero story, he’s the guy that they’re both in love with, it seems shoved in. It really did. Who cares about the love triangle? Really? What does that really got? I understand the plot point that they’re putting in there. It’s something that can push them apart and that they’ve got to grapple with. I get that. But you’ve already got a two-hour and 17-minute movie based on very little storyline. I don’t know. It just didn’t do anything for me. Goldblum, Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yao should not have tried singing. Oh, my gosh. His song was horrible. His song was horrible. I was in physical pain during his song. I didn’t know how much more I could take. And when she tried to sing, it was awful. Michelle Yao, I’m just going to say it was totally miscast in this movie. She makes a terrible metamorphosis. And honestly, that’s hard to say because she is a very good actress. I love Michelle Yao in a lot of things, but she was terrible in this movie. There are so many wonderful Broadway actresses who can really sing and really bring the evil, right, and do it all, who could do so much better in this role. And by the way, Jeff Goldblum, too. Here’s another thing. Jeff Goldblum, if you’re going to have Jeff Goldblum on the screen, Use him. Now, you know as well as I do how funny he can be, right? Jeff Goldblum, when he starts going off and talking like he did in Independence Day or like he did in Jurassic Park and just kind of dribbling off with his lines, he can be hilarious, John. They do virtually none of that with him. So it’s like, then why did you get Jeff Goldblum? Was it to sell tickets? You don’t need that. You got that with the two leads.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right. Good point.
SPEAKER 06 :
Get an actor who actually fits the role because he didn’t. And my goodness, what a terrible singer. OK, final thing. And this is a biggie. So many plot weaknesses. Oh, my goodness. First of all, how could Glinda go for a decade, a decade, never doing magic, but convince everyone she could? John, that wouldn’t last three months. I mean, at some point, people are going to be like, can you pull a rabbit out of your hat? Can you please do something, anything? I don’t care how much good PR you have. You can’t pull that off for 10 years. Good point. Because she’s not like the wizard who is hidden back behind curtains and all kinds of machinery and all kinds of special effects and all that. She’s just a girl out there with her classmates every day amongst them. Never doing magic of any kind. And yet they believe she could. That was ridiculous. Next. At one point, Elphaba, she escapes on her broom. But Fiyero is left behind. And it’s a terrible thing. It’s a terrible moment. And he sacrifices himself to be left behind. Folks, this broom carries both of them. They could both go. The broom’s strong enough. Why didn’t she just take him? It was dumb. Here’s, oh, this is awful. Why was the Tin Man, okay, so you got a Tin Man in this movie, right? Totally different from The Wizard of Oz, okay? The stories, just so you know, the stories are supposed to coincide. This is supposed to be the dark truth. behind what we saw out front with the wizard of oz right well the tin man is totally different in this movie from the wizard of oz in this movie he is um oh gosh he’s an enraged guy leading a lynch mob I mean, what? He is absolutely nothing.
SPEAKER 09 :
He’s not the same guy.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, he’s nothing like the one in Oz. And this is supposed to be parallel with Oz. Gotcha. Okay. How come the entire animals being oppressed and enslaved story never showed up in The Wizard of Oz when everything else, except the torch and pitchfork, you know, Tin Man, everything else aligned with the movie? OK, this entire animals being you would think, OK, that must be a very tiny, minor part of this movie because you don’t see it at all in Oz. Right. I mean, you don’t even see a reference. In fact, you don’t see any animals. OK, hardly. I mean, you see the lion in this movie. It’s the main theme. It is the main thing that they’re fighting against is the oppression of animals. Think about that. It has nothing to do with the story. John, this was not good. Okay? This was just not a good movie. Everything felt incredibly forced in this movie. And I’m just going to say it. I hated this movie. Wow. Okay? Now, Rotten Tomatoes, they dropped this down from the first one was in the 90s. They gave this 70%. Okay, obviously the groupies gave it 97. They don’t care. I’m going to give it two and a half stars. And I talked about this one for a while with my wife, and she felt the same. She was just like, yeah, and she loves chick flicks. Okay, and this was made only for chicks. That’s why I wanted to ask her. And she was just like, this was dragged out so badly at so many points. I said, would you agree about 45 minutes of story? She said, at most. Wow. At most. You had very little story and they would sing about it and dance about it and talk about it forever and ages. Okay. I’m going to give it two and a half stars quality. For me, it was a half star. This was bad. This was boring. This was nails on a chalkboard. And even the parts that I actually enjoyed, like the last song I thought was good, and another song was pretty good, and I like the flying scenes. Man, oh, man, oh, man, John, that was like about, what, 10 minutes? Yikes. Okay, political two. You know, it’s woke, obviously. Moral religious three. It’s not bad, not good. It doesn’t preach at all. in that way. John, Wicked for Good. Do I recommend going to Wicked for Good? It doesn’t matter if I recommend it. If you are a groupie, you’re going to go and you’re going to like it because you want to like it. And that is simply a truth. If we really, really, really want to like something, we’re going to like it.
SPEAKER 09 :
True.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. For anybody else, no, don’t go, folks. You’re going to be bored. There are better movies where you can have a lot more fun.

SPEAKER 05 :
The best export we have is common sense. You’re listening to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 06 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate and John! Are you ready for another movie?
SPEAKER 09 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, John, well, a struggling actor tries to find a new job in Rental Family.
SPEAKER 10 :
So, what do you think we do here? We sell emotion. How? We play roles in clients’ lives. Parents, siblings, boyfriends, girlfriends, best friends. And help them connect to what’s missing. I’m just an actor. I don’t know how to help people. What I’m offering here is a chance to play roles with real meaning. What do you need me for? We need a token, Michael. This girl needs a father. Hi, Mia. I’m your father. I’m your father. Hello, Mia. I’m your father.
SPEAKER 17 :
I hate you.
SPEAKER 10 :
She hates me. It’s what being a parent is. You could live in this country for 100 years, and there will still be things you won’t understand. Why do you do this?
SPEAKER 14 :
Sometimes, the story we tell ourselves becomes the truth. To her parents, you are her husband. These people look at you like they’ve been waiting for you their whole lives.
SPEAKER 09 :
What do you think, John? Doesn’t sound bad.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 09 :
Cute movie, maybe.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, it stars Brendan Fraser. Do you like Brendan Fraser? Yeah. I do. Yeah. Very likable guy. Absolutely. Okay. He stars as Philip Vanderplug. Okay. What a name, right? An American actor who has reached the end of his rope. Well, desperate to reinvent himself, Philip goes to Japan, where the only decent paying gig he can get is acting like a family member in real situations, really fooling people. Yeah, people actually do this, by the way, in real life. This actually happens with actors being hired to portray certain people in order to fix situations. At one, you might have somebody act like they’re your, if you’re young, have somebody act like they’re your girlfriend so you can show off for the school. That kind of thing. Okay. This is just bigger. Okay. At one point, Philip acts as a groom for a young woman hiding her lesbianism from her parents. And in another, he acts as an interviewer for a magazine. Now, the conflict, of course, is obvious. These Japanese people are hiring Philip rather than simply facing the awkward realities of their lives. At one point, Philip must stand in for a long-lost father for a young girl named Mia, and she’s played by Shannon Gorman. Now, Mia is applying to a school, and dad needs to be there. It’s part of their culture, John, that it looks better to have a husband and a father and a mother both bringing the child to get them into this private school. That just really helps. It’s all part of the culture. Throughout it all, we see Philip towering over the Japanese people, sort of like a big, awkward teddy bear. He struggles to fit in his seat on a bus. He bumps his head on doorways. You kind of get the idea. He’s a big guy, right? But there’s a real problem here, John. Philip is a kind person who develops relationships. He’s lonely. They’re lonely. How do you just play the gig and walk away? Now, that would be hard, wouldn’t it? I mean, you’re playing this thing. You are literally playing this role in somebody’s life. How do you not get attached? And how do you keep them from getting attached? It’s very hard. And there are dangers as well. In each scenario, you’re being hired to fill one task. Not involve yourself too deeply in the lives of those you’re helping because then you might really affect those lives and that can be dangerous. So where does Philip draw the line? How much involvement is too much? And how much acting just feels like lying? Philip must find his way in Rental Family. And that’s the story of Rental Family. Doesn’t sound bad. What do you think? Yeah, well, what works in Rental Family? Well, first of all, Frasier, he’s at his adorable best. He really is. This is just a warm, friendly person with lots of emotions. And he always has been. And this just comes through big time in this movie. This is a very heartfelt film, which beautifully captures the loneliness that so many people feel. And you really feel that because he’s a very lonely guy. And a lot of the people in the movie are very lonely. And even to hire somebody to fill in for that, at least you’re hiring a real person. And it means a lot. While this is slow moving, and it really is, the storyline, it keeps pace as Philip switches situations. So this is not like Wicked for Good, where the storyline just dragged immensely. No, actually, the storyline moves along. Boom, boom, boom. Just fine. Okay. There are many good performances from Asian actors, most of whom I’m just going to say we wouldn’t know. There’s a guy named Takahiro Hira, and I do know him. He plays Shinji, Philip’s driven boss. He’s very good. Then there’s another one I kind of know because I’ve seen him around, Akira Emoto. And he’s great as the old man who’s losing his mind. And he’s very worried about losing his mind. And he wants to connect with his life before he does. Then you have a coworker. She’s good. But here’s the one, the showstopper to me was Shannon Gorman, the young girl. She’s lights out as Mia. I mean, she’ll just grab your heart. She really will. She’s wonderful. The scenery is stunning, John, with Japan in all its glory. And by the way, there aren’t many more beautiful places on the planet than Japan. I mean, maybe New Zealand. I don’t know if there’s anything more beautiful than Japan. They show it. It was really impressive. Finally, we feel the emotions between Philip and Mia and the old man. It was very nicely done. They grab you. They hold you. I like that.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right, what doesn’t work in rental family? Well, first of all, this could have benefited from more humor. It really could, especially with such talented actors who could pull it off. This is a very talented cast. They could have put in a lot more humor. And what that does is it jumpstarts the story every bit of the way. Boom, boom, boom. Sure. You know, as you’re getting a little too dramatic and sappy, boom, you have a joke. Boom, you have a joke. Move it along. They could have benefited. They didn’t have that. And because of that, it just kind of is a rolling stream of consciousness movie instead. Not bad, but it could have been better. This would have helped the pacing. Now, next, the slow, easy pacing, that’s going to limit your audience. Some American moviegoers are going to love that kind of pacing, and that’s fine. But others won’t. And I’m giving a review for everybody, right? Okay, not just one kind of person. Right. Imagine Peanut Butter Falcon without much humor.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah. Wouldn’t be any good. No, it really wouldn’t. Wouldn’t be as good, I should say.
SPEAKER 06 :
It wouldn’t grab you. It’d still be touching.
SPEAKER 09 :
No, it was funnier. It was better with the funniness.
SPEAKER 06 :
But with the humor.
SPEAKER 09 :
Because that’s real life.
SPEAKER 06 :
Exactly. What does the humor do? Moves it along.
SPEAKER 09 :
Moves it along.
SPEAKER 06 :
And doesn’t the humor.
SPEAKER 09 :
And it brings reality to it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. But doesn’t the humor also make the touching moments more touching? Absolutely. Because of the contrast.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. And this could have benefited from it. Next, there’s an unnecessary relationship with Philip and a prostitute. Okay. It slows down the film, John. It really does. It gives Philip less of a pure feel to his character. It just doesn’t fit. It doesn’t add anything. I mean, they add with it, but you didn’t need it. If you had pulled that out, you could have shortened the film and moved the pace better. Finally, this is a feel good film, but it’s not a feel great film. You come away pleased, but not wowed, not blown away.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
You just you’re very impressed with the acting. You really like the people. You do feel good, but you’re not blown away. OK, Rotten Tomatoes. This is interesting. This started out around 95 percent. It drifted down, down, down. It’s now at 87. So Rotten Tomatoes gave this 87 percent for quality. I’m going to give it three and a half stars. OK, because I believe there are a lot of people who would really enjoy watching this kind of a story unfold before them. Right. And connecting with these characters. There’s so many. There aren’t many movies this year that we connect with where we connect with characters. Here you do. I think there’s a lot of people who would enjoy that. And so I’ll give it three and a half stars because I can’t go higher because there’s too much of the audience that wouldn’t like it. Next, political two, moral, religious two. I’m grading it down just a little bit in each case because it’s got a little content in each way. Nothing big. Do I recommend going to rental family, folks? That’s up to you. If it’s your type of movie, yes. If it’s not, no.

SPEAKER 15 :
Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 06 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate and John. Are you ready for a third movie?
SPEAKER 09 :
Absolutely, this one especially.
SPEAKER 06 :
Boy, we’ve got another triple feature. There’s been a lot of those.
SPEAKER 09 :
I know.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, well, a sleeper hit gets a brutal sequel in Sisu, Road to Revenge.
SPEAKER 01 :
There you go, Dragunov. You killed hundreds of civilians, including the family of a Finnish commando who took revenge and became a legend. The legend entered the Soviet Union ten hours ago. I’m sending you to clean up your mess.
SPEAKER 18 :
I think the legend has been homesick. Go on.
SPEAKER 06 :
And there’s not much more we can play because it’s all just action.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right. Well, Jorma Tamila, and you wouldn’t know him except if you’ve seen the first Sisu, which, by the way, folks, if you have not seen it and you are a guy… Go see it. You must see the first Sisu. It is worth it. Well, he returns as Atami, the retired Finnish soldier who slaughtered a wave of Nazis in the first movie. Well, in this film, the war has just ended, but now the Russians have committed atrocities in Finland, including, of course, the murder of Atami’s wife and children. Hmm. Bad move, John. Bad move. Atami has killed many Red Army soldiers in retaliation, and the Russians are very aware of his presence within their borders. He’s a legendary killing machine. But first, Atami tears down his cabin. Now, why does he do that? He tears it down log by log, and he loads the logs on his truck. He wants to transport this home of his across the new Finnish border and rebuild his life.
SPEAKER 17 :
Hmm.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, meanwhile, the Russian officer named responsible for killing Atami’s family is languishing in a prison. His name is Igor Dragunov, and he’s played by Stephen Lang. I don’t know if you’ve seen him before. He’s a good actor. And Dragunov, he is brought out of prison for one purpose, to track down and kill Atami. Well, this sets up one long, nearly endless battle as Atami heads for his new home. This is Road Warrior stuff, okay? It really is. And coming in several phases as Dragunov is as brutal as Atami. Well, first, Atami is on his truck, right? Because he’s traveling with all the pieces of his house. Being pursued by a jeep and four motorcycles with riders who are armored up and can’t just be shot. So they’ve got these metal helmets you can’t shoot through them. In time, Atami is also pursued by a tank, two warplanes, and hand-to-hand on a series of railroad train cabins. Even a missile is involved, John. I mean, everything is coming at him in this movie. The kills are both brutal and breathtaking, especially in such a gritty, basic setting. These aren’t just the flashy settings of John Wick, right? John Wick, you’ve got all these neat colors and shades going on and cool settings. Not here, man. This is war on dirt and mud roads. Everything is dirt and blood, nothing pretty. Throughout it all, Atami, he has this trusty dog with him. And this dog, John, is almost as much a survivor as Atami. But at its heart, this is a battle of revenge between two men, Atami and Dragunov. The question, just how much pain can one man endure? And we find out in Sisu, Road to Revenge. What do you think? Sounds good. Yeah. Well, what works? Once again, every single person in the audience, a guy. All right. What works in Sisu Road to Revenge? Well, first of all, the performances, John, are spot on. Tamela, he doesn’t even speak as a Tommy. Did you know that? He doesn’t even talk, though he does scream when tortured. Stephen Lang is perfect as the ruthless Dragunov. You couldn’t find a better actor to play this role. If you like action, this is your movie. Breaking it up into a series of battles involves several different kinds of vehicles. And it’s really fun doing this. And so they’ll have this part of the movie, and it’s fighting the planes. This part of the movie, and it’s fighting the tank. This part of the movie. And they break it up this way, and it’s very fun. It breathes new life into every scene. The kills, of course, are imaginative. Not as straightforward as the original film. More on that later. The pace of the film, relentless. The action never bogs down, John. rolls along yeah i mean there are moments where you build up to it but no the action is coming baby it’s coming because this guy and what he goes through is unbelievable physically okay what doesn’t work in sisu road to revenge well here’s the big problem with this movie unfortunately implausibility in the second half of the movie as i often say you can only turn your brain off to a certain degree and this film blows by that barrier All right. See, Sisu is at its best when Sisu feels real. But the second half of the sequel contained ever escalating ridiculous action that didn’t feel real. Now, don’t do that to me. All right. How many times can we defy the laws of physics or string together lucky movements? Inwardly, I was angry at the director. I was inwardly saying over and over, dude, you’re breaking the mood. You’re breaking the mood, man. Don’t do it. No, no, no. Come on. We know that wouldn’t happen. Now you’re reminding me I’m watching a movie. I don’t want to be reminded I’m watching a movie. I want to just enjoy the thrills. I want to be dragged into this. Because in the first Sisu, you are dragged in to the character and watching him battle with all these things. And you, every step of the way, feel, yeah, this could happen. It’s really cool. What a cool action sequence. But it could happen. Here you’re just like, no, that wouldn’t happen. No, that wouldn’t happen. So really the second half kind of falls apart in that way. Finally, there’s a softer, poignant scene toward the end that is too predictable. And that was, I liked it. Don’t get me wrong. It was touching, but it was predictable. You knew it was coming. And that kind of kills the mood too. All right. That’s Sisu Road to Revenge. Now Rotten Tomatoes gave this 95%. And the first movie had, I think, was around 98% or something. It’s just crazy. I’m not going to go quite that high, but I’m going to give it a good review. Three and a half stars. Is it worth seeing? Absolutely. Is it as… man, drag you into it and drag you along with it every step of the way as the first movie? No. Political three, more religious, well, three, well, what do you say?
SPEAKER 09 :
It is what it is.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I mean, within the genre, at least, what I mean is this, it wasn’t taking any shots at Christianity or whatever, right? Gotcha. There was none of that in this movie. All it was doing was you were in Road Warrior, and it was a nonstop battle all along this road and along the train tracks. There you go. Do I recommend going to Sisu? Road to Revenge. Yeah, I do. Actually, this is one of the few really good action movies that is out this year, and it’s worth seeing. Sisu, Road to Revenge.
SPEAKER 09 :

SPEAKER 05 :
Live and local, back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 09 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. What’s the driest place on Earth? Question of the day from yesterday. Chili’s Atacama Desert. Am I saying that right? Atacama? Yeah. Atacama Desert.
SPEAKER 06 :
Was that in a James Bond movie recently? One of the Roger Craigs?
SPEAKER 09 :
Maybe. You would know more on that than I would.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, Quantum of Solace had a desert in South America. I don’t know if it’s the same one, but there you go.
SPEAKER 09 :
I have no idea. So it’s the driest desert. I would not have thought that.
SPEAKER 06 :
I wouldn’t think of deserts in South America. Certainly not ones that are drier than the Mojave or the Sahara.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, okay, well, there you go. Today’s an impossible question.
SPEAKER 06 :
Or Southern California when you need water for a fire.
SPEAKER 09 :
Exactly, there you go. What’s the world’s largest island? Not a continent. What’s the world’s largest island? That is the question of today. Any idea?
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, so not a continent, so you can’t include Australia. What about Greenland?
SPEAKER 09 :
Maybe.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. Possibly.
SPEAKER 09 :
Possibly.
SPEAKER 06 :
I don’t know what you qualify as. Do you have to apply for being a continent? Is there some paperwork?
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, what is the qualifications of that?
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m not really sure.
SPEAKER 09 :
Isn’t it an island? I don’t know. An island is completely surrounded by water, but so is a continent, right?
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, not all of them. I mean, some continents are connected to others.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, true. True. I guess that’s true.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
I don’t know. I should look this up. Island versus continent. Okay. Because I have no idea. We’ve got a couple minutes here. Andy, I don’t have the foggiest idea. An island is a landmass surrounded by water, like I said, while a continent is large, continuous landmass. So an island is fully surrounded by water.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 09 :
So Australia is an island, right?
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, but it’s also, I mean, it’s Australia continent.
SPEAKER 1 :
I don’t.
SPEAKER 06 :
I don’t even know. Is it Charlie? I should know.
SPEAKER 09 :
I don’t know.
SPEAKER 06 :
I should totally know that, and I don’t. I’m embarrassed. I’m going to say no.
SPEAKER 09 :
I’m looking. Is it an island, or is it a continent?
SPEAKER 06 :
I’ve already said Greenland, so I’m going to stick with it.
SPEAKER 09 :
It is technically both a continent and an island.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh!
SPEAKER 09 :
Often called an island continent. Now you’re messing with my head. Because it’s a continental landmass entirely surrounded by water.
SPEAKER 06 :
Is Antarctica, which, by the way, is land under the ice, okay? So is that considered…
SPEAKER 09 :
That’s a continent.
SPEAKER 06 :
A continent. I would think so.
SPEAKER 09 :
It is a continent. That I do know. Yes. But Australia, mainly because it’s so big, it’s considered a continent, although it is, in fact, an island as well.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right. Okay.
SPEAKER 09 :
We’re learning some geography here today.
SPEAKER 06 :
We’re learning things, man. We are learning things.
SPEAKER 09 :
Stuff I didn’t know. This is stuff that I honestly never learned, and I don’t really ever care.
SPEAKER 06 :
Is there an island on Earth? Because you do a lot of island hopping. You love going through the Caribbean and places like that. Is there an island on Earth you’d like to go you haven’t been?
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, yeah, like Fiji and all that, Bora Bora, all those. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 06 :
It’s so funny because I like the northern ones. I’d want to go to Scotland.
SPEAKER 09 :
Really? No, I want where it’s warm. I mean, Scotland’s okay. Scotland, Ireland, some of those places, I guess.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s the part I wouldn’t like.
SPEAKER 09 :
I want to go on those huts over the water. That’s where I want to go.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’d like to go to New Zealand, Madagascar. You know the grass huts over the water?
SPEAKER 09 :
You know the ones you see in the pictures, the grass huts over the water? That’s where I want to go.
SPEAKER 06 :
Where’s that?
SPEAKER 09 :
Bora Bora.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, Bora Bora.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah. That’s a hike down there, the only problem. Oh, it is? But I’ll do it someday. I’ll put that on the bucket list and make it happen one of these days. Okay. Again, that is one of my bucket list go-to places. I’d like to go to Australia someday, too. I think that’d be fun. I don’t care for their politics, but a lot of places I don’t care for politics in.
SPEAKER 06 :
No. I mean, let’s face it, John. About 90% of the world is basically socialist.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, so you’re already at odds with them on the political spectrum anyway, so…
SPEAKER 06 :
Although a few European countries are drifting back the other way, which is interesting.
SPEAKER 09 :
Poland and some of those.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right, right. Yugoslavia.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah. No, that’s a great point. I am not, just as a side note, some of you probably would wonder why, but I’m just not a big Europe fan. That’s a place I just have no desire to go to.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, we did leave them for a reason.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, that’s kind of my thought.
SPEAKER 06 :
I mean, come on.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, it just does nothing for me. I don’t know why. I mean, I know a lot of people, women especially, they will have gone, let’s go to Europe. Let’s go do this. Let’s go there. Yeah, no, not really.
SPEAKER 06 :
There isn’t much of Europe I’d really want to see. I think, once again, I do like northern things. So, you know, the fjords way up north and stuff like that. But overall, Europe, no. No, that doesn’t really fascinate me.
SPEAKER 09 :
I think Iceland would be cool.
SPEAKER 06 :
I think, I mean, honestly, Japan is a place I’d love to see. It’s just so crowded.
SPEAKER 09 :
That would be all right, too.
SPEAKER 06 :
But it’s so crowded. I’m not sure. You know me. I don’t like crowds.
SPEAKER 09 :
I’m not a huge—I mean, I can do it if I absolutely have to, but it’s not my thing. I mean, I’ll do it at a ballgame or something just because it’s what you have to do if you’re going to go see a ballgame. But by nature, I’m with you, Andy. That is not my favorite thing to do.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, I know you love Hawaii. What are the biggest things you love about Hawaii?
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, the climate and the beauty. Just the climate and beauty.
SPEAKER 06 :
How about the people? What are they like?
SPEAKER 09 :
It depends on where you go. Some are really nice, and some are not so nice.
SPEAKER 06 :
Just like anywhere else.
SPEAKER 09 :
Some natives are super nice and friendly, and they realize tourism is the backbone of their economy, and others want you to go home.
SPEAKER 1 :
Really?
SPEAKER 09 :
Because they think they can live off of welfare, I guess. I don’t know. I mean, it’s the stupidest thing ever, Andy. It’s like, if you allow tourism, you don’t exist.
SPEAKER 06 :
I know.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, I mean, seriously. Duh. And even some of the natives understand that. Some don’t. It’s just like anywhere else you go. There’s people are people. It doesn’t matter where you’re at. It’s all the same.
SPEAKER 06 :
Last question, where’s the best, nicest people that you go in your travels? Because you like to travel a lot.
SPEAKER 09 :
The best, nicest people.
SPEAKER 06 :
Where are they the nicest? You love going to Cabo. You love going to some of these places.
SPEAKER 09 :
The Mexican resorts are really nice and friendly and all that. Honestly, Africa. Where have you been? I’ve been all over the Horn of Africa. They’re super nice because you’re an American and you’re rich, quote, unquote, so they’re very nice to you. But, yeah, I love Africa.
SPEAKER 06 :
Because you mean money.
SPEAKER 09 :
I guess so. Yeah, to them, you do.
SPEAKER 06 :
But they’re nice people.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, they’re great people. Absolutely lovely people, yes.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, that’s great.
SPEAKER 09 :
Absolutely. All right, that’s it for this hour. We’re going to come back, and we have got what? We’re going to do movies with gold after NFL picks, right?
SPEAKER 06 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 09 :
All right, so somebody asked if we’re going to do NFL picks. Yes, we are. That is coming up next. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 19 :
Average Guys. Average Guys.
SPEAKER 1 :
Average Guys.
