HR1 Rush To Reason March 19, 2025 by John Rush
SPEAKER 07 :
This is Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 08 :
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes. With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 13 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did. Get a job first. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 05 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 17 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 15 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. Presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 14 :
I’m Hans. And I am Franz. And we just want to pop your ass.
SPEAKER 07 :
Welcome to Health and Wellness Wednesdays on Rush to Reason. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through lifestyle.
SPEAKER 09 :
I have what doctors call a little bit of a weight problem. I used to grab bear claws as a kid, two at a time, and I’d get them lodged right in this region here.
SPEAKER 03 :
Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands.
SPEAKER 04 :
Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
SPEAKER 15 :
I’m sorry that I’m fat.
SPEAKER 01 :
All right, and welcome. Happy Wednesday, hump day, health and wellness day, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Al Smith joining me today as he hung around after his program, and we do that on a monthly basis. And your financial stability has a lot to do with your health as well. So, Al, how are you?
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m well. How are you, John?
SPEAKER 01 :
Always a joy to have you. Last time I was on your program, we talked about self-employed individuals like myself and what do they do for retirement and so on. And really, we could do a second part to that pretty easily, by the way, because what we really got into is how the lack of financial planning on the part of most small business owners is there. And a lot of them really don’t realize they haven’t done enough until it’s too late.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right, and I think one of the reasons for that, and I don’t blame self-employed people, but the primary thing when you have a small business is you want to keep your business going.
SPEAKER 01 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
And that involves all kinds of things that have to do with managing employees and managing the bottom line and things like that. So when you’re concerned about payroll on Friday, it’s hard to think about age 65 and retirement.
SPEAKER 01 :
There is that. There is all sorts of things that we talked about on your show, all sorts of things. And I agree with you, by the way. I don’t think you’re not blaming small business owners or self-employed individuals. It’s just life to your point. Life happens. You’re busy running the business. And I think, too, when we talked about this on your program, so many small business owners, Al, get kind of caught up in that trap of, well, I’ve got the business. there’s value there. I’ll sell it at some point in time, and I’ll have some retirement that way, and I own my home, and I’ll have some retirement out of the home, and so on. And by the way, not bad strategies if you actually can make that happen on down the road. And what I’ve seen personally, Al, far too many times is, and I’ve unfortunately coached some individuals along these lines, you get to that point to where You maybe want to slow down a little bit and you think the business has X value and you think the home has X value. And the problem is you hawk the home to run the business, meaning the value in the home isn’t really there because you’ve got too much mortgage because you borrowed money to keep the business running. And, oh, by the way, you didn’t really ever do anything real estate-wise with the business, so all you own is the business itself, and you are the business. So at the end of the day, you’ve got some assets in the business that might have some value. Unfortunately, it’s pennies on the dollar if you’re no longer running the business. So at the end of the day, I hate to say this, there’s nothing there.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, you’re absolutely right. And the businesses that have the most value are businesses that when the owner leaves for a month or two and comes back and he asks the second in command, well, how did we do? And he tells you, oh, we made a bunch of money because you structured the business in such a way that it wasn’t dependent on you alone.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yep, and again, folks, those of you that are self-employed, I cannot stress this enough. You really have to sit down, devise some plan, a plan, that will not only include some of the things that we’re mentioning, and if you feel like your business has value and the home has value and so on, that can be a part of your retirement, great, but you really need to sit down and look at that, and what I would say for those of you that are business owners, sooner than later. Sooner than later, Al.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, absolutely. And if the business can be structured in such a way to have long-term continuous income, for example, like concierge physicians, they charge a certain fee and their patients can come see them throughout the whole year based on that one fee. And and a physician who has a practice like that and brings in another younger physician as the person gets closer to retirement, that practice may have some real value compared to maybe a surgeon who goes in, does the procedure, gets paid, and quits doing the procedure and quits getting paid.
SPEAKER 01 :
um you are 100 correct and so again folks those of you that are listening especially those that are self-employed please take a moment call al find out how to get on his books and go through this process of figuring out where are you what do you have in play And for some of you even, do you have things set up correctly? Kind of going back to the Michael Bailey end of things a moment ago, Al, which he was on on the estate planning side. Not only financially speaking, do you have everything dialed in on the business, but do you have the estate plan handled and so on? Nothing worse. And again, it breaks my heart, Al. I’ve seen far too many owners. that I have been involved in, to where it gets to the point where they’re like, you know, I think I’m ready to get out of this. I’m ready to go do something else. I might have an employee or two that are interested in the business, but here’s where I’m at, and I sit down and I go over things, and I’m not a broker, but I can still analyze and look at things and tell you values, and I sit down and I look at things, And unfortunately, other than the equipment, as I said earlier, there’s not maybe a customer list and a phone number and a few things like that. But really, at the end of the day, because of the lack of planning, and I’m just saying it that way, the lack of planning on that owner’s part, there’s not a lot of value there. And unfortunately, they end up having to go do something else. thinking that, hey, we could go down south, we could retire, we could do this, we could do that. Far too many owners either have to have one of the two or both, spouse and husband, husband and wife, going out into the marketplace having to continue to work when they thought we’d go down and we’ll retire. And the reality is that’s not able to happen because they didn’t plan ahead.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, you’re absolutely right about that. Now, on the other hand, let’s say your business is doing really well and it permits you to set aside healthy amounts of money. With some of the retirement plans for self-employed people like SEP IRAs and so forth, you can set aside between $10,000 and $20,000 a year. You can even do a completely individual 401k and put as much as $17,000 in there. So if you know your business has little value but it’s generating lots of income for you, then definitely squirrel it away as best you can so that if your business has little value but you leave with $750,000 in your retirement account, your choices are much better than trying to get money out of the business.
SPEAKER 01 :
And, again, there’s all sorts of ways to do this. These are things that Al can definitely help you guys with, especially those of you that are self-employed. My biggest plea, I think that’s the right word to use for those of you that are in that situation, is don’t put it off to tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes. Tomorrow is always tomorrow. I’ll do it tomorrow. I’ll do it tomorrow. I’ll do it tomorrow. No, do it today. Call Al. Get something set up. Determine where you’re at. Are you on a path that’s going to work at the end of the day? And by the way, that includes everything in your whole – Al and I have talked about this in the past. What’s your goals? What do you want to do in life? Do you want to move to another part of the country? Do you want to stay here? There’s all sorts of factors that come into play here. And no matter what, you’ve got to make sure that you can fund all of those things when it’s all said and done, Al.
SPEAKER 06 :
You’re absolutely right. My favorite proverb about planning for the future is the Chinese proverb, the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yes. And what I’m telling all of you that are especially self-employed, no matter what age you’re at, start sooner than later. It’s never too late to start, although for some of you it gets a lot more difficult the later on in life we get. And one last thing, Al, that I want to encourage people to do because it’s this time of the year. A lot of you have had your W-2s that have come in. If you’re a regular W-2 worker, you’ve had those come in. Double-check. Go on your Social Security portal. Go online and double-check to make sure that what you’re getting on your W-2 matches what they’re reporting and what they’re showing. It’s very important, I think, Al, for most, by the way, don’t do this. It’s a good way to make sure that, A, no one has stolen your identity, that everything is being recorded properly, that the IRS and all of that end of it is recording what your employer actually has on your W-2. My point is you don’t want any discrepancies there because if there is, something’s wrong.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, you’re absolutely right. And if that’s checked yearly, then you’re not faced with being age 67, filing for Social Security and wondering, why is my benefit so small? And then you’re going back looking at 20 years earnings.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah. I mean, what’s that old saying, Al? Let’s fix it sooner than later. It’s a whole lot easier to fix a small problem than it is a large problem. And finding one year that’s off right now and fixing it immediately versus, to your point, going back decades in some case, which, by the way, you wouldn’t even know if it was off decades later because unless you go back and keep all of your tax returns and so on and you can pull those W-2s back out and double-check them, you won’t even know if they’re accurate or not.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, you’re absolutely right. And if you had to check with the IRS, you don’t know if their records are accurate either, matching with the Social Security records.
SPEAKER 01 :
Great point. Great point. So, yeah, again, I’ll encourage you all. Most of you, I’m guessing, know how to do this. But if you don’t, it’s really simple. Some of you are probably already getting statements. But no matter what age you are. You can go on to the Social Security portal. It’ll walk you through how to do a registration if you’ve never done it before. There’s some identity things that it checks to make sure that you are who you are. But once you’re registered, it’s really easy. I pop in, Al, I don’t know, two, three times a year just to double check. For me, it’s more I want to make sure nobody else has stolen anything. my identity and taking any of my benefits because that happens and we see those, you know, we hear about those stories and see those and I don’t want that happening. But I just want to know, you know, where am I at and what’s going on? And it’s all part of that continual effort in making sure that things are staying on track.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, you’re absolutely right. And that’s for many people, that is a big chunk of their retirement. So checking to make sure that it’s accurate is wise. And usually it is accurate, but not always.
SPEAKER 01 :
And if it’s not, that’s where you start making phone calls to try to determine what’s happened. But again, folks, I would encourage you, give Al a call. You can find him on all of our websites, klzradio.com, rushtoreason.com, all of my other sites as well. You can also call him directly, 303-744-1128. But again, if you’re driving, you need his number, just go to klzradio.com, look for Golden Eagle Financial. And Al, again, with all of the uncertainty that’s always around, people need to make sure they’re dialed in in this area.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, thank you so much for having me on your show, John. I appreciate it.
SPEAKER 01 :
Always appreciate it. Al, appreciate you very much. Thanks for all your support. And again, give Al a call. Veteran Windows and Doors is up next. And if you’re looking for a great deal on windows and doors and, frankly, a better deal than you’ll get other places and have the correct windows and doors done when it’s all said, please give them a call today. Find them at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 15 :
Veteran Windows and Doors never uses sales reps who are only trained to close the deal. You will work with the owner, Dave Bancroft, and he knows windows are very prescriptive, meaning each home is unique in where it is in elevation and whether the windows face the sun or not. That’s why Dave makes sure you understand every value and rating for your windows so you don’t pay extra for windows that you don’t need. And every window manufacturer advises against using gas filled windows at or above 4000 feet. Other companies will say they have the highest quality and rated windows, yet they still use the wrong products like gas filled windows at the wrong elevations. Those windows will eventually fail. Don’t sign anything until you have met with Dave. Even if you have signed a contract with another company, it may not be too late if the windows don’t meet code or Energy Star criteria for Colorado. Veteran Windows and Doors will give you 40% off when buying five or more windows and free installation. Find them at klzradio.com today.
SPEAKER 01 :

SPEAKER 07 :
Listen online, klzradio.com. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 01 :
All right, we are back, health and wellness. Wednesday, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush. Yesterday’s question of the day, what is the rarest blood type? That would be AB negative, AB negative. The rarest types, by the way, are AB negative, which is just seen in 0.6% of people, followed by B negative, which is 1.5% in the U.S. population, and then AB positive. in just 3.4% of people in the U.S., and those of you that have those blood types will know because most likely the blood banks are constantly calling for your blood because it’s in typically rare supply and they need more of it, which that’s not necessarily a topic I was going to get into, but I will tell you that If you don’t donate blood, do. It does help a lot of individuals out that you may not even know or ever meet. It’s always important to have a good supply on hand at any given time, especially for those blood types that we were mentioning, especially where your blood type will either work for all sorts of others or it’s very specific, and you know what I mean by that and how the crossover in that works. So, again, if you don’t give blood, you should. It is sort of that like jury duty, sort of a civic duty. And by the way, there’s some health benefits. I don’t get into this much on our program, but there’s some health benefits to donating blood as well that I probably should get an expert on and actually talk about the health benefits of doing so because in certain situations it can really be dangerous. a big help, and I’ll see if I can’t get a special guest on in the future to actually talk about that. Today’s impossible question, with which mathematician is credited with the innovation of calculus alongside Isaac Newton? Which mathematician is credited with the innovation or with the invention of calculus alongside Isaac Newton? So that is our question of the day. Somebody actually had informed me of this yesterday, and yes, I did see this. Now, this is sort of health and wellness related. Dr. Julie Gatzel will be joining us at 3.30, so I’ve got a couple of things I’ll fill in with here in the meantime. But somebody asked me yesterday, sent me a text, did I realize that Pepsi had bought the prebiotic soda brand Poppy? And I did see that yesterday. Now, fans aren’t happy. It was a nearly $2 billion sales. And their concern is, customers are concerned that their favorite soda recipe might be altered by the new owner. So that’s something that folks out there, I guess, are talking about. I’ve not followed any of the news on it. All I did was actually see the actual sales. sale of which that’s a pretty good chunk of money for the investors in poppy and i’ll just be straight up honest i don’t know that brand i’ve never i can’t i’m looking at the cans i can’t tell you that i’ve ever seen it Tasted it. I can tell you I’ve never had any familiarity with it whatsoever. It was created in their kitchen. The folks that actually founded it was fueled by a desire to create a better-for-you soda. That was Allison Ellsworth, the co-founder and chief brand officer. We can’t wait to begin this next chapter with PepsiCo to bring our sodas to more people. Maybe that’s why I haven’t seen any of these, by the way. And I know they will honor what makes Poppy so special while supporting our next phase of growth. and innovation. So again, I don’t know much about this particular brand. Maybe some of you do. Some of you must have, or you wouldn’t have sent me that via the text line yesterday. But yeah, that particular brand has been sold. So I got something we can probably get into. And if we have enough time, I’ll get this whole thing done. If not, I can come back to it once we get done with Dr. Julie. And we talked a little bit yesterday afternoon got off on a topic, and it was a little bit health and wellness related, because we talked about overweight kids, and not kids that are just a little bit on the chunkier side and so on. No, we’re not talking about that. But in a lot of cases, and we see it, my wife and I notice this from time to time, that certain kids are really, really overweight. I mean, they’re not a little overweight. They’re very overweight. In fact, in some cases, you can just look at them, and, I mean, it is 20, 30, 40 pounds, maybe even more in some cases. And so we had a conversation yesterday, Andy and I, and a lot of you were texting in and chiming in on, is that borderline child abuse? And I’m not one for, you know, you guys know me, I’m not a nanny state. I think in most cases, the child protective services are far more involved with things than they should be. And I’m not going down that path and saying that, you know, any charges or anything like that should be filed against any kind of parent that has heavy kids. But you wonder in the society we live in why this isn’t getting talked more about. Actually, we’ve gone the other direction. You know, we’ve got parents that are concerned about, you know, everything from what sex is their child and all of that that we talk about here all the time, which you guys know my feelings on, the whole transgender end of things and so on. We’ve got parents that are out there fighting for those sorts of things or fighting against them even, which we do here. Yet at the same time, lots and lots of overweight kids that are out there that we tend to just ignore because if we say anything, we are, quote, unquote, body shaming. Now, I think there’s a difference between body shaming and saying, hey, what’s going on here? And, you know, why is Junior there 50, 60 pounds overweight? And by the way, I think this is due in part, and I think this is the fault of the medical community. A lot of these kids are getting checkups. They’re going into, you know, the school nurse and this, that, and the other. And I guess my question is, is why isn’t anybody asking these questions? And as I said yesterday, I understand that there are times where certain medical things can come up that can cause weight gain and things like that even in adolescence, and I’m not talking about that. I’m simply talking about kids that, frankly, overeat, don’t eat the right things. Sit in front of the TV or the video games far too much. Don’t get the right exercise. And in turn are overweight. Those are the kids I’m talking about. And as a side note, I see it in all classes of people. We go on vacation. We travel. I watch other kids and so on and families and such. And you get a pretty good idea of people. And I get it. You can’t always know what their income level is. But you pretty much know if you’re at a particular destination, they’re not poor. Right? They didn’t get there for free. Now, I get it. Some can come along with other family members and so on, and maybe it’s a freebie trip for them, and I understand that. But by and large, you get what I’m saying there. And so, again, what I would say is this isn’t necessarily what you make as an income thing. I think some people are just more conscious of it and pay more attention to it and want their kids to be more healthy than others. Some don’t pay any attention to it at all. In fact, some people give their kid whatever they’re asking for to the kid’s own demise. And what we were talking about yesterday, Andy and I were, where’s the parents and where do we as adults come into play? Because we’ve got a significant rise in childhood obesity. There’s an article out of Nine News that, again, I may get to once we get done talking to Dr. Julie Gatza. But, you know, that’s a concern because as we talked yesterday, Are we really giving these kids the ability to put their best foot forward on down the road? Or are we hamstringing them? Are we hampering them? And I would say it’s the latter. And yet we’ve got certain families, certain individuals, parents that would say it’s none of my business, stay out of it. Well, this is a societal issue, and yeah, we need to be talking about it because a healthy society at the end of the day costs all of us less money. We have a better society when people are healthy. Trust me when I say that. We as a society do much better when everybody is healthy. So I’ll try to come back to that here after we’re done with Dr. Julie. Golden Eagle Financial is up next. SPEAKER 07 :
Listen online, klzradio.com. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 01 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Doing our best to get a hold of Dr. Julie. If not, we will continue on without her. I’ve always got plenty of topics to talk about when it comes to health and wellness. And I’ll just keep going, by the way, on our last topic when it comes to healthy things for kids. There’s an article, by the way, in 9 News today titled, What Drinks Are Good for Kids? Because we all know, well, we should know, that in a lot of cases what kids are not just eating but also drinking has a big factor in the whole keeping weight down and being healthy and all of that. There’s a medical expert, Dr. Pail Coley, said that 20% of children and adolescents are currently obese. which goes back to what I was talking about prior to the break. In other words, that number continues to rise, and we really need to do whatever we can to try to get that back down. And a lot of that in what people are studying and what they’re realizing is a lot of that is coming from what kids are drinking because it’s really easy to just go grab that quote-unquote healthy drink and hand it off to your kid. And what might seem to be super healthy, grape juice, for example, might not be as healthy as you actually think it is. So you really need to double check those things. We’ll get back into that here in a moment as well. Dr. Julie joining us now, though. Dr. Julie, welcome. How are you?
SPEAKER 10 :
Hi, thanks for having me on.
SPEAKER 01 :
Always a joy. March is National Nutrition Month. Now, we talk nutrition here on a weekly basis anyways, but we highlight different things throughout the year, and March just happens to be Nutrition Month.
SPEAKER 10 :
That’s great for me. It’s all I talk.
SPEAKER 01 :
That’s right. And we love it. In fact, I was just mentioning a moment ago, I was going to talk about this even once I’m finished with you. There was an article out in one of our local news stations here of childhood obesity rates being up to now 20%. So two out of 10 kids have childhood obesity. And this was a whole article about the sugary drinks and things that parents feed their kids.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, well, I mean, if you take a look at Pictures of us when we were in the 70s, and you look at kids now in class photos, it’s really apparent. And, you know, it’s not just the sugary drinks. There are a lot of parents who are trying. There are a lot of parents who are trying to make really healthy choices. But the problem being is our soil has been altered, our seeds are altered, what’s acceptable as food has been completely shifted. And everyone has gone into agreement with it. Now you have, you know, very non nutritious food that we’re trying to feed our kids, get them to sleep at night, step in school, be smart. And the fact is, I can’t survive with that type of food and feel that good, much less a kid.
SPEAKER 01 :
You know, question for you, and this wasn’t really in our notes, but as you just said that, I was thinking also that when we were kids, we had kind of an option of you could do the school lunch program, which, by the way, is even way different than it is today. So, you know, parents could buy the school lunch, or in a lot of cases, we had the old, you know, packing the brown bag, and mom would make you, in my case, either a peanut butter and jelly or a bologna sandwich or something along those lines, and that was lunch, and you probably got a piece of fruit, and I don’t know if you were lucky, and I’m being serious here, Dr. Julie, if you were lucky, you got like a jello pudding or something along those lines for dessert, and that was pretty much your lunch. So my question is, even on the line in the cafeterias, has that food changed from what it was when you and I were kids?
SPEAKER 10 :
It’s so tremendously changed and just the quality once again. So you’re getting a tremendous amount of carbohydrates. You’re getting a whole bunch of different types of grains that are sprinkled with the glyphosate. And, you know, we’re just filling these kids with a lot of carbohydrates. I mean, you know, is a hamburger that’s been served really a hamburger? So it’s just what, you know, is it really food that just has one, possibly two ingredients in it? And instead, I’m sure it’s, you know, just a mass produced sort of a thing that you wouldn’t you wouldn’t think twice of trying to feed your family with it.
SPEAKER 01 :
So in a way, what you’re saying, make sure I’m following correctly, is raising kids in a family is hard, and yes, I know, I’ve done it. What you’re also telling me is I guess my duty as a parent is to do a little bit more research on what’s actually happening on all levels, whether I’m sticking in the sack lunch or I’m giving them a meal ticket at school. Reality is I probably need to be doing a little bit better job of what’s actually in this food they’re eating, and I get it. Dr. Julie, people are busy. Kids are going 100 different directions. They’re in all sorts of different events and things and so on. You’re doing your best just to keep everything rolling along and keep food on the table. Who’s got time for all of this? But yet their future, and I mean this sincerely, the future of that child matters and their health does as well.
SPEAKER 10 :
I mean, I couldn’t agree with you more. And you know, it really, it might take a little bit of effort. But the fact is, once you get that system in, it’s no more effort. And you’re not arguing with the kids when they’re, you know, feeling lousy from the food that they ate and bickering and trying to get them to sleep at night and trying to get them to concentrate and study and pay attention better and not get in fights at school or be whiny. And a lot of this stems from, you know, what are we feeding them? And I used to walk with this lady in my neighborhood, and she said, boy, feeding kids properly is like swimming up a stream like a salmon. And I said, I understand. I get it, because she was very similar. And what I would do is I would run a whole list of things that I could pack in my kids’ lunchbox, and I would put it on the back of the cabinet, on the inside of the cabinet, so I didn’t have to recreate the deal every day.
SPEAKER 01 :
Great idea.
SPEAKER 10 :
And I would make five times more dinner than I should have so that I could spend that. And she got used to eating cold chicken. She got used to eating cold pork chop or steak or whatever it was. And, you know, I made it sort of interesting. And it didn’t take that much time. But, boy, oh, boy, did I have a healthy, bright-eyed kid whom she’s never eaten a McDonald’s hamburger. Now, we’re not that crazy, but I used to tell her that bad kids and kids in trouble would have to eat at McDonald’s.
SPEAKER 01 :
Ha! You bad parent, you. That’s hilarious.
SPEAKER 10 :
It was a silly thing, but, you know, she’s 28 now and she left.
SPEAKER 01 :
I’m sure that’s hilarious, actually. Well, you know, the plus side to that is learning moment. She laughs at it now. It served its purpose. And for those of you listening that are parents or even grandparents, there’s these little tricks occasionally that we as parents use to get done what we need to do. Some would call it trickery. I just call it parenting at the end of the day, Dr. Julie. You do whatever you need to do to make sure you can get that kid raised correctly.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, it’s true. And, you know, I mean, I grew up with McDonald’s probably once a month.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah, it was a treat for us, Dr. Julie.
SPEAKER 10 :
a complete treat, but also it was a little different ingredients of a McDonald’s as well. So, but you know, I mean, we had on the days we could ever take lunch to school was, you know, we did get our Twinkies. We did have an ice cream sandwich, but this was not also on top of having a piece of, you know, white toast in the morning with a bagel and then a bowl of, cereal, sweet cereal, and then coming home to something that was, you know, microwaved and thrown, you know, into your gut that there is nothing really that’s food in your body throughout the day.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah, in some cases, and I know people are going to wince when I say this, there are some situations, Dr. Julie, you would be better off giving them a glass of water and say, drink this as to some of the food that they’re fed.
SPEAKER 10 :
I totally agree. And, you know, we’re already… nutrient deficient in this country with what’s in our soil and how things are being grown. But on top of it, because of that, we all are suffering from some type of digestive distress. And it’s very much a key component to how healthy are you. Do you have gas, bloating, indigestion, acid reflux, constipation, diarrhea? Are you experiencing any of those? Because they may be common, but they are not normal. So on top of not nutritious food, we don’t have the ability to break down that food the way that we used to because we’re not making enough enzymes. So I always counteract that in my practice with having people take high-quality digestive enzymes to break down the good food and the bad food and push the toxins out.
SPEAKER 01 :
And, again, I talk about it all the time. We’ll slip this in right now because it’s a perfect timing absorbate. I use it on a, I mean, literally daily, all of you listening, a daily basis, whether I’m using it during the day or night before I go to bed or whatever the circumstances are. I am for sure at least taking one before I go to bed at night every single night.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yep. I mean, it is. It’s just an aid. I’m staring at the bowl of them here on my countertop, and it’s a matter of every time I eat, I want to squeeze the most nutrients from that food, so take some Absorb-Aid. It will help. It’s better than, I think, taking a multivitamin just from the point that you’re getting all the nutrition from the food in front of you. Great point. And if you have something that you shouldn’t have and you are being bad, then take two or three of them. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah, if you had a rough night and ate a bunch of things that you shouldn’t have, have those in your pocket. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 10 :
It’s amazing. I had a friend last night who sat down and ate a whole bunch of, I don’t even want to tell you what. And I was laughing. I was like, well, take the absorbate. And, you know, sure enough, half an hour later, he was like, oh, my gosh, that was a, you know, lifesaver.
SPEAKER 01 :
You know, and again, not making fun of people. Things happen. You go to different parties or whatever. And, you know, maybe you let your hair down a little bit and, you know, you’re going to go off the wagon. Although typically literally going off the wagon is not any fun at the end of the day. But we still do it from time to time. It’s kind of our human habit. self, I guess, Dr. Julie. But yes, if you’ve got some of those in your pocket, by all means, it makes things much, much better. Now, I’ve said this before and I’ll say this as we start getting into more of that travel season as well. For some of you, you might be going someplace on spring break or you’ve got some summer vacation stuff coming up. You might be driving or flying. I would also tell you, bring those along on your trip because not only does it help, in my opinion, for me personally, flying and some of the just up and down and depending upon what you may have eaten before you got on the plane or what you drank before you got on the plane or whatever the case may be, just that up and down can sometimes cause some bloating in and of itself. The absorbate gets rid of all of that. Yes, I can attest to that. On top of that, you typically will have things on vacation to eat you wouldn’t eat any other place.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I mean, I can’t say enough about that. It’s so important. And, you know, a lot of people’s ankles will swell or they’ll get, you know, puffy and inflamed when they’re traveling or let’s just say daily. You can actually take it on an empty stomach before you go to bed at night. And it helps break down inflammation, poison, toxins, viruses. You know, there’s a whole host of colds that went through here about two weeks ago. And I was having people take a bunch of absorbate at night just to help break down all the gunk in the body.
SPEAKER 01 :
It is a lifesaver. How do folks get it?
SPEAKER 10 :
They can go to the website, which is naturesources.com, and they can ask for some free samples, or they can get 20% off their first order, or they can call the 1-800 number. If they use the code radio, they can ask for some free samples or 20% off, and that’s 1-800-827-7656. The one thing that I will often say is, You can hear about all this. You can get so smart. And boy, oh, boy, the Internet has just a host of things out there that, you know, you’re learning about. And you’re like, I didn’t know this. But nothing will change unless you do something about it. And that’s, you know, these free samples make it so simple for you to try it out and go, oh, wow, this totally makes sense. That was nothing to ask for some free samples.
SPEAKER 01 :
Perfect. And continuing on, we also know hydration, getting enough sleep, some of those things also come into play, which, again, I get it. We kind of started off with kids and families and so on, and reality is sometimes that becomes a difficulty in and of itself, not only getting yourself enough sleep, but the kids to get enough sleep. I mean, all of this kind of combines for a perfect storm, right, Dr. Julie?
SPEAKER 10 :
Yes, it does. And if you don’t have that downtime, you’re just firing off at all cylinders throughout the day. And life has gotten a little more intense, and you do need to be able to sleep the best you can. On top of it, coffee, tea, and soda pop is not water. Water is water. So if you wake up in the morning and you want to get two of them out of the way, it’s the best thing. You’ve been sleeping all night. You’re dehydrated. The body could use hydration first if you want to have other things afterwards, but a couple of big glasses of water right from the start and have everyone else in the family doing it too. And it just starts the day off correctly. Instead of having that third or second cup of coffee, have a big glass of water. You won’t be as sleepy as you thought.
SPEAKER 01 :
When it comes to, let’s go back to the kids for a moment, which we kind of started that way and wasn’t really in our notes, but this works perfect. We can continue on. What are some healthy snacks and things that folks can look at? And again, if it’s good for your kids, it’s good for you as well. But typically kids need a few more snacks and things than we as adults do. So what do we give them that’s an alternative to some of the junk that’s out there?
SPEAKER 10 :
You know, if you get some glass containers and you cut up vegetables and fruit and put it at eye level in the refrigerator, you would be amazed at how often they’ll get eaten. It’s just no one wants to do that preparation. So if you take a few minutes out, cut up a pineapple, you know, get carrots and cucumbers and celery all lined up and put in a little water in a glass container and they’ll be wonderful. Hard-boiled eggs, I can’t say enough about them. They’re in their own package. You can carry them anywhere. You can, you know, flavor them with a million different things. If you have tuna fish and chicken salad set up in the kitchen as well, maybe you make some homemade hummus, not the store-bought. You don’t want the garbanzo beans unless they’re organic because they really absorb toxins. You know, even soaking whole raw almonds overnight, you dump them out in the morning, dump out the water, and you can even squeeze them and the skin comes off. And now you have these white almonds. They’re easy to digest. They have enzymes in them. They fill you up. They don’t get caught in your teeth. And it’s one of the better nuts that you can do when you actually soak nuts overnight that are whole and raw.
SPEAKER 01 :
Interesting. You know what? I don’t know if we’ve ever talked about that. So the health benefits, are they just easier to chew and digest? Is that what I’m hearing?
SPEAKER 10 :
Both, yes. And, you know, if you ever have squeezed an almond that’s been soaked and you then look at all the skins there, it truly looks like pencil shavings after they’ve dried a little. And it’s like, ooh, that can’t be that good for you. And it’s got to be hard on digestion to try to break that down. Yeah. You know, you can do, instead of putting everything in a sandwich, you could, you know, buy some good lettuce and get some decent lunch meat or some chicken from last night. And you can put some, you know, I don’t know, tzatziki sauce in it or some hummus in it or mustard or something. roll it up in the lettuce, and fill it up with a whole bunch of things, if you start pushing that way, you’ll notice that your kids start to come along. But if you just continue to buy Lunchables and weird food and things that are in a package, a box, and a can, they will turn their nose up at real food because it’s been way too tasty, salty, sugary, and everything else the other way.
SPEAKER 01 :
A question I’ve always wanted to ask, might as well ask it now. Is there a difference, going back to the whole deli meat end of things, is there a difference between what you get down the aisle that’s already hanging on a hook versus what you go to the deli and they actually shave off for you? Is there a difference there?
SPEAKER 10 :
You know, I’m not always sure. I think it depends upon the brand.
SPEAKER 01 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
And I know that some brands are, you know, just packed full of gunk, and, you know, even different kinds of meat are better than other ones. I know… You know, sometimes you can just get a boiled ham. And what is it? It’s truly a boiled ham.
SPEAKER 01 :
Right. Like a smoked turkey that you would get at the deli versus smoked turkey in a package. Is there a difference between those two?
SPEAKER 10 :
I haven’t looked into it that far enough. Always wondered that.
SPEAKER 01 :
The only reason I ask is the stuff coming out of the deli definitely tastes better, fresher, less, I don’t know, gooey maybe is the right way to say that, Dr. Julie. Definitely tastes better than the other packaged stuff does.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I agree with you. And, you know, the other thing is my sister’s family is Polish, and they always had wonderful Polish ham. Now, it was the type that had a little bit of fat in between it. It was the type that wasn’t such a clean cut. But I tell you, when you tasted it, it tasted like real ham. And they were raised on that type of ham that if you’d give them the other type, they’re like, no, we want the one from… The good stuff. They became these spoiled little Polish kids with, you know, discerning taste on their lunch meat.
SPEAKER 01 :
That’s funny.
SPEAKER 10 :
And… Yeah, so I will often look for those type of ethnic delis because I think that they have a higher standard.
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah, no, that makes total sense. In fact, it’s interesting you say that, and in closing, H-Mart, which is big here in Colorado. We have one right near our station, but I read an article the other day where H-Mart is doing really well across the country. In fact, they’re having phenomenal growth, and I think it’s because of what you just said. It’s all ethnic foods.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. I mean, you know, they came over here as we’re sort of, you know, depending, but they come with their traditions, whether you’re German, Japanese, it doesn’t matter. But there are certain things that are very high standard and haven’t been Americanized. And when you taste it, you’re like, oh, my goodness, this tastes awesome.
SPEAKER 01 :
Absolutely. All right. How do folks find you, Dr. Julie?
SPEAKER 10 :
So if they want to go onto the website, they can find out about me, which is thenaturesources.com. All right. And speaking of kids, if you want to help them learn to read, we have a literacy problem in the United States of America when it comes to our young people. We can fix that. American Stonehenge by Mike Goldstein. Just go to JimmyAndAndrew.com, type in promo code KLZ, and get 10% off.
SPEAKER 16 :
American Stonehenge by Mike Goldstein is perfect for your middle grade reader. Just ask Dorothy.
SPEAKER 12 :
What I really liked about American Stonehenge was that it had everything that a kid will like to read. A little bit of fantasy and the talking dog. A lot of history. And it goes about it in a roundabout way so the kid doesn’t really know they’re actually getting a history lesson.
SPEAKER 16 :
It’s beautifully illustrated.
SPEAKER 12 :
That having the illustrations gives the kids an idea because they’re so used to seeing everything presented to them in a digital way.
SPEAKER 16 :
But it’s a lot more than just a story.
SPEAKER 12 :
That it would help young readers because they can follow the story. They may or may not have to look up a word. It teaches them how people talk. It was down to earth. Here to interest kids and teach them something without them really realizing it.
SPEAKER 16 :
Mike Goldstein wants to get kids off their phones and into books.
SPEAKER 12 :
American Stonehenge will interest my grandkids that maybe they’ll get off their video games and telephones.

Suck it up, buttercup. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 01 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. And this is our Health and Wellness Wednesday edition. All right, some of you may wonder, do I shop all organic? And I love all of our guests and Dr. Julie and all of them, and I mean that sincerely. But do I do every single thing they all say? Do I shop in the organic aisle and only buy this, that, and the other? I’ll be the first to tell you, no, I don’t. Doesn’t mean that they’re all wrong and I don’t believe them and so on. I just don’t. I frankly don’t have the time, the energy, the wherewithal. And I’ll be honest with you, I think in some instances, and this is something that I don’t argue with my guests on because they’re the guest, but I will just say straight up that I’m not sure that they’re always correct. in their thought process on all those things either. So for one example, let me read you a text message that I received, and I will talk to Dr. Julie about this one in particular, but please correct Dr. Julie, grains aren’t sprinkled with glyphosate. Glyphosate is a grass killer in the herbicide world. If we sprayed the grain crops minus feed corn, which is used for cattle, the crops wouldn’t produce grain. This is a very misinformed topic coming from a grain farmer in northeast Colorado. So thank you for that, by the way. I appreciate that very much. And, no, I am not somebody that shops in every aisle and does all of the things – that a lot of our guests say including dr julie while i love her greatly and her product absorb aid is exactly what she says it is that one i will give you a testimonial on and i’m not paid to do so my wife and i both use it and yes in fact it does work but no are we totally out there when it comes to buying everything organic and this that and the other no i am not maybe i should be but no one yet really has proven to me that they’re better than anything else And so I’ll just leave it with that, and you guys can determine what you want to do from there. I do, again, support all of our guests and love each and every one of them dearly. That doesn’t mean I have to agree with every single thing that they all say. So that’s our health and wellness edition today. We’ll be back. Two more hours coming your way. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 1 :
I’m a rich guy.
