HR2 DRIVE RADIO May 16, 2026 by John Rush
SPEAKER 08 :
Being an expert on general automotive knowledge, what would the correct ignition timing be on a 1955 Bel Air Chevrolet with a 327 cubic inch engine and a four barrel carburetor?
SPEAKER 17 :
It is a trick question. Watch this. Because Chevy didn’t make a 327 in 55. The 327 didn’t come out until 62. And it wasn’t offered in the Bel Air with a four-barrel carb until 64. However, in 1964, the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top dead center.
SPEAKER 22 :
Get ready for another hour of Drive Radio brought to you by Colorado Select Auto Care Centers. Got a question for the experts? Then give them a call. 303-477-5600. Now it’s time to pop the hood and get our hands dirty. Drive Radio on KLZ 560 The Source.
SPEAKER 05 :
And we are back. Hour two. Drive Radio KLZ 560. And I messed up. We have to call our guest, which I forgot to give Charlie the phone number, too. So we’ll get him on the phone here in just one minute and talk to Rand. It’s his name, Rand Taylor. We’ll get him on the phone here in a moment. My apologies. I, for some reason, thought he was calling us, and I just looked at my notes. I’m like, nope, we’re calling him. So I normally have all that dialed in on the front side on The Daily Show. It makes it easy. I give Charlie a sheet. Today I messed up. It’s the weekend.
SPEAKER 01 :
I messed up.
SPEAKER 05 :
Anyways, Drive Radio, KLZ 560. Lines are open. You can call in. We’ll have Rand on the phone here in a moment, but you can call in with any questions you’ve got. 303-477-5600. 303-477-5600. Somebody said, I’m surprised you don’t use an iPad with a keyboard instead of a laptop. Although they are about just – yeah, honestly, what I’ve learned is for the weight, and by the time you do the keyboard, and I like having a little bit more real estate on the screen because a lot of times I’ll be doing two things at once. And so I use a – I’m a Mac guy, so I use a MacBook Pro keyboard. The one I carry is a 13-inch. I have a 14-inch at home. Sometimes I swap and I’ll carry the 14-inch. But, again, I usually carry my older of the two around with me just because if it gets damaged, stolen, lost, whatever, I mean, this one’s a 2020 model. So I’m working off of one that’s five, six years old that, okay, if something happens, it’s not an issue at the end of the day. So Ran joining us now. Ran Taylor, how are you, sir? Welcome. I’m doing great, John. Good to hear from you. I should say welcome back. You’re on with me during the week, and some of the folks might have heard your interview earlier in the week because some folks listen to all of my shows. But for those that did not and may be just hearing us for the first time, again, Rand Taylor, CEO of Industrial Sustainability Group. And actually, the Fuel Ox is the product that we’re going to talk about today. So, Rand, again, thanks for joining me, and talk to us about Fuel Ox.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, gosh. Thanks for having me on, John. No, it’s Fuelox. That’s our baby. You know, that’s our number one product. It’s a fuel additive for both gasoline and diesel. So it’ll work in anything you got, car, truck, boat. lawnmower, it’ll work in all of it. But what it does that makes it special is that besides having detergents in there to clean your engine out and lubricate everything, it also has a combustion catalyst, which is really, that’s our secret sauce that really very few other people have. In fact, if you go into your local you know, auto parts store, you’re not going to find anything with a combustion catalyst is my guess. Okay. So that’s where we separate ourselves. What that means is that we actually get the fuel to combust about 30% earlier than normal, which really ends up, what it ends up doing is creating a much more thorough burn. Okay. And when you do that, you end up with better fuel efficiency, usually in that five to 10% range. And with diesel owners, what you’ll find is that we reduce your emissions by about up to 70%. So all the aftermarket emission systems that are on all the diesel engines now, your diesel particulate filters, your emission gas returns, and all the sensors and everything that go with it are highly problematic and very maintenance sensitive. intensive. And when we reduce the soot by 70%, all those headaches are greatly reduced. So that’s what we do.
SPEAKER 05 :
Go ahead, Josh. This is right up your alley. The way this works… rand just so you know we’re a call-in show i’ve been running this program now for almost 30 years we get people to call and ask questions you know check engine lights to what vehicle should i buy to we just had a conversation a minute ago about e15 and e85 and all of that in the last hour so we’re a call-in show people listen we’re live we do this every saturday from 10 to 1 here in the denver market and it replays again on on sunday and we’ve got a huge listening audience i’ve got folks now around that listen all over the country because of folks that have been here. We’ve been doing this so long. People move away. They keep listening, tell their friends and family and so on. So we have a really large listening audience. And we also bring in part of our sponsors, which are Josh is from Auto Shop here in Boulder, Legacy Automotive, Dietze, who’s with me as well. They do paint protection film and Clear bra, that sort of thing, ceramic coating and so on. So, again, we bring people on with us, Rand, and answer questions and so on. So, Josh, also, they do a lot of diesel work and that up in Boulder at their shop. So what we’re talking about with you is a big deal to not only our shops like Josh, but to our listening audience as well.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, if we can get the particulates down, that’s, you know, like you just said, that’s one of the biggest issues we deal with on the trucks anymore. It’s hardly issues with the diesel itself breaking down. It’s all the after treatment. Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
And then me, Rand, not only do I do the shows that I do, the four shows, the one you heard me on during the day earlier this week. But then I also have a large fleet shop where we do outside property maintenance. And I have, I don’t know, close to probably 100 trucks that we run. And so all of this is very intricate to what we all do here on a weekly basis. The reason why I want to have you back on on the weekend.
SPEAKER 11 :
That’s great. I’m happy to be here and fire away with all the questions you could possibly have.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, so you say the secret sauce is that combustibility or that… You called it the secret sauce or the secret ingredient. Okay, so… I guess talk to us about that. I mean, we’re pretty familiar when it comes to additives, and there’s no secret here. We’ve all in our shops in that we’ve used the BG product line for years and years and years. I grew up around that product, and it’s a good product. There’s nothing wrong with their company at all and the products that they sell, and they’ve got a wide range of products. And I know when we talked earlier in the week, one of the things that you said is, listen, what you guys do is really minimize the amount of products needed.
SPEAKER 11 :
Correct. Yeah, so let me talk a little bit about what you’re used to. What you and almost everybody out there is used to are what I refer to as conventional fuel atomists. And that’s essentially, you know, the product you just mentioned and every product you’re going to see on the shelf at your at your Pep Boys or Auto Zones or whatever you might have out there, O’Reilly’s, whatever. Right. So those are all conventional fuel adders. And what they do is they all do the same basic type of thing. You know, they clean your engine out. They lubricate things. They might do something to the water, you know, that that that sort of thing. OK, then you have your and then you have your specialty. Get into your second part of your question. which is the guys who try to sell you 10 different things instead of, you know, selling you two things that each do five tasks, you know. So that’s a big part of the business. I mean, there are companies out there that if you look out there at what they offer, they offer 25 different additives for 25 different problems, okay? What we do is I don’t have time to do that. I don’t want to be that, okay? What we want to be are problem solvers, okay? So what we do is we’ve combined our product, which does 10 different things. In addition to we have something in there that really very few, if nobody else has in there, which is our organometallic combustion catalyst. And that’s the big differentiator. But as you mentioned, the fact that we do so many other things, that’s also a big differentiator. I’ll tell you another big differentiator we have is our concentration level. if you look at one of our products that you can go on to our whether you go to fuelox.com or amazon you know where you can find us pretty easily online my eight ounce product for a eight ounce fuel additive will treat 640 gallons wow okay if you look at most of the conventional stuff out there yeah most of the conventional stuff out there is like 32 ounces that treats 240 gallons So we have a very convenient measuring, you know, thing at the top of the bottle so you can measure exactly what you need. You’re not overusing, which is probably another mistake we’ve made because all my competitors, most of them don’t have any kind of measuring thing up top because they want you to use more. Right. Okay? Right.
SPEAKER 05 :
Really quick for everybody listening, you’ve got a measuring device similar to what you would do if you were going to add oil to your two-stroke oil. It’s very similar, correct, Rand? Yes.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. Okay. Perfect. Okay. Now, so, so, okay. I make sure that I’m seeing this correctly and I understand everything correctly. So online on your particular website, your, this bottle you’re talking about is what, about 25 bucks or so, or how, how expensive is it?
SPEAKER 11 :
It’s about, it’s about 40 bucks.
SPEAKER 05 :
40 bucks. Okay. 40 bucks.
SPEAKER 11 :
So if you do, but how many gallons are we treating? 640 gallons. That’s pretty inexpensive at the end of the day. If you look at your standard, what’s offered in the stores, they’re about $25 to treat 240 gallons. So that’s about $0.10 a gallon. Now if you look at ours, $40 to treat 640 gallons. Now all of a sudden you’re looking at like $0.04 or $0.05 a gallon. So it’s really half price.
SPEAKER 05 :
And you can buy the one product and use it in your diesel or gas engine vehicle. It’s the same. Am I hearing that correctly?
SPEAKER 11 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 1 :
100%.
SPEAKER 11 :
Any middle distillate fuel is what it’ll work in. In fact, we actually have power plants that are not in the United States but in other parts of the world that treat their heavy fuel oil, which is commonly referred to as bunker fuel. Right, right, right. You can’t even use it in the United States. You’re not allowed to do it anymore because it emits too much. Right, too dirty. Yeah, too dirty.
SPEAKER 05 :
Too dirty, yeah. Wow. I mean, again, the reason why I want to have you back on on the weekend is to talk more about this, and you’re a perfect fit for what we do here on a regular basis. And, again, I’ve got a lot of not only listeners but shops and, you know, partners and so on that are, you know, that then, like Josh and his shop, he’s, you know, He’s recommending these products in his shop and doing regular full-service work on a regular basis. Again, I wanted to learn more about your product because if it’s a product that really works, then we want to get it out to the people that we have as partners as well.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, I really appreciate it. And I got to be honest with you, the retail side is not something we’ve worked really hard on. We tend to be a, you know, like most people and I think good companies, they tend to go to the path of least resistance, right? Right. And that’s what the heavy equipment fleets are. You know, that kind of thing. That’s where we live right now. We’re starting to bring on quite a few distributors of fuel throughout the country, guys that will literally take and treat their entire fuel supply, knowing that they’re now providing a product that’s superior to all their competitors. Got it. But it’s not to say we ignore the retail side, because we do have a retail presence. It’s just we haven’t concentrated on it. And I do believe that. That is our next step. Our next step is to really build a real network of distributors from the retail standpoint.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, that’s where you and I probably should even off-air talk a little more because we could probably help you with a lot of that given my experience. longevity in the industry and what we’ve done here in the Colorado market. And again, our signal covers about four states. Plus, we have people that listen literally from all over. I had a call earlier this morning, even from Dallas. And we have folks in Montana and Michigan and Jersey and all over. So we’ve got a pretty large listening audience. So, yeah, that’s something, Rand, that you and I probably off air ought to talk a little bit about because I’m sure we could help you along those lines very well.
SPEAKER 11 :
I’m excited to do that.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’d be great. Another question I had for you. You do other things besides just the additives. You guys have got other products, grease and so on. Talk about that also.
SPEAKER 11 :
We have a very limited line of lubricants. We have grease, which is a number two lithium complex grease, but it’s treated with our unique product, which actually far outperforms everything else out there in reducing friction and reducing the wear. And then that product is actually our – Our friction eliminator, which is an oil additive. And we take that oil additive, which is, it does the same thing. You put it in the oil, it does the same thing. It reduces your friction. Everything lasts longer. It reduces the metal wear. And that’s our main product that we blend into both the grease and into a spray, which is a lubricant penetrant spray. So those are our three main products on the lubricant side.
SPEAKER 05 :
Got it. And I’ve got text messages coming in. And those of you that are looking this up, yes, you are on the right website. They just sent me the link to your website, Rand. So, yes, those of you that are listening and going to fuelox.com, that is the right website. You are correct.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes, it is.
SPEAKER 05 :
Awesome. Again, Rand, we’ll get together. I’ve got your number now. We’ll get together here in the not-too-distant future. I think we could partner and make some things happen that would actually help you, and I’ll get some product that I can get out to some of our folks so we can do some real-world testing so we can talk about it. Because I’m one of those, Rand, where I won’t talk about something I don’t believe in.
SPEAKER 11 :
then you and I are on the same wavelength because I won’t sell something I don’t believe in. And some of the time we can talk about it because that’s how I got involved in this. I am not a lubricant additive guy in my background. So last thing, though, we do have a YouTube channel with a whole bunch of videos if people are interested. Yeah, what is it? Fuel Ox. Just go to YouTube, put in Fuel Ox, and we got a couple hundred videos there and a bunch of other information as well.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. We will be in touch, Rand. Again, this is something I think we could help each other out on, and I think it would be a great partnership. So we’ll be in touch.
SPEAKER 11 :
Looking forward to it, John. Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER 05 :
You’re very welcome, Rand. I appreciate it greatly. Thanks so much. And, yes, those of you that were out looking already, yes, fuelox.com is the website, fuelox.com. Check it out. And, again, we will do some real-world testing between myself and Josh and some of the others that are in the shop end of things. We’ll get it in other people’s hands and see how this actually works. And, again, I – You get a feel for people, and as I interviewed Rand earlier in the week, I just thought, you know, here’s a guy that actually gets it, and he’s very honest and open, and I appreciate folk like that, and that’s who we deal with here on a routine basis. You guys all know that. So we’ll do some real-world testing and get back to you. In the meantime, hang tight. We’ll be right back. This is Drive Radio, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 04 :

Here’s why you need personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch on your side. He understands the way the jury thinks. In the context of a personal injury case, you’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. The idea is that you’re going to try to recover so that you can get back to where you were just prior to that incident occurring. What that really means from a jurist’s perspective is that you’re going to be asking them to award you money. So when we talk about fairness, we’re talking about six people that you don’t know. Those six people view the evidence and make a unanimous decision that will decide what the fair value is. When you’re the one who’s hurt, you have a good idea of what you think it’s worth. The question is, can you persuade those other individuals whom you don’t know and were witnesses to believe that’s what the case is worth? Kevin Flesch understands the way the jury thinks. Okay, we are back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560. Thanks for joining us today. I appreciate it. Dietze from ProTech Auto Shield with us. Of course, Josh Goff from Legacy and Ridgeline, which we’ll talk about some used car stuff and that as well as we go through the show. And it seems like it’s already halfway through the show. Holy cow. Anyways, been a fast show today. So lines are open 303-477-5600, 303-477-5600. Okay, I had a text message that came in. And somebody, by the way, is going to order some of this fuel. So those of you listening, please do this for me. If you order from them, please let them know you heard us here some way, somehow. If you’ve got the ability to share that with them, please do so. Even if you just send a separate email into them letting them know you heard us, heard them here, and so on. And then on top of that, as you test this, Give us some of this real-world findings back. So as you guys buy this product and test it, please let me know how it works because this is one of those things where if this works the way Rand says it does, and I have no reason to believe it doesn’t, we’ll look at doing some distributorship things and help him out in our area and do some things along those lines and be able to help a lot of you at the same time as well. So please, by all means, if you use the product, let us know how it works and so on. All right, so here’s a question that came in. And I said that I would, in the text message back, I would ask my co-host today to answer this for me. I know John Rush is particular as all get out. Does his vehicles ever show wear and tear? I noticed on my Ram work truck that somehow I scraped my tonneau cover just a little bit, little scratch, and it’s bugging the crap out of me. I know this is not reasonable to spend $1,000 to replace something so stupid, especially on a truck that goes out and works every day, goes out to battle every day. Do any of y’all ever notice something on your vehicles or homes, and you think, how’d that happen? Well, first of all, yes, those things happen, and yes, I do pay attention to those things, and yes, it bugs the crap out of me as well. Now, I will let these two answer. Do my vehicles ever show normal wear and tear? I can probably ask Dietze more so than even, but Josh knows me very well as well, but I’ll let Dietze answer this one.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, we have one of your trucks right now, so… Because it had some wear and tear. Because it had some wear and tear, which…
SPEAKER 05 :
And it’ll come back with not wear and tear.
SPEAKER 15 :
Exactly. And it has more coverage.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes. So, yes, I am very particular. And most of my vehicles will show a little bit of wear and tear. I mean, as least amount as possible. And, yes, there’s vehicles I have to, I mean, I come to work. I drive daily just like all of you do. And, yeah, vehicles will show wear and tear. But for me, when they do, I will address that.
SPEAKER 06 :
You do.
SPEAKER 15 :
I mean, the rest of the truck was pristine.
SPEAKER 06 :
You can always tell if you’re going to meet John Rush outside of work or meet him someplace. You can tell if his cars are in the parking lot. You always know it’s his car.
SPEAKER 05 :
Which one’s mine? Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
And I don’t know all of his personal cars because they change all the time. Yeah. I’ve met him at different places and was like, that’s John’s truck or that’s John’s car today.
SPEAKER 15 :
Especially with the pinstripes.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 15 :
They’re very on brand.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes, that’s me too. And I’m a D badger, as you guys all know as well. So I’m one of those that if I can get the badges off and not run them. I will. And I’ve said, you guys all know me. I talk about this on the daily program as all, I don’t need to advertise for folks. If I’m going to advertise for you, then you need to pay me to advertise. That’s why I don’t wear logo shirts. I don’t wear things that are designer by any means. Uh, I am not one of those guys. I typically will, we’ll try to stay as low key as possible because a, I don’t want to spend that extra money because I think it’s stupid. I don’t need to advertise for Nike, for example. Um, it’s just not me. Uh, Now, I will wear things people give me. Josh has given me some shirts and different things like that. So, yes, there’s times where I’ll be working around the house and have a Ridgeline shirt and run to Home Depot or whatever. That’s different, okay? That’s a different scenario. But I am not purposely going out and buying a particular designer whatever. just so that I can stay ahead of the crowd because frankly I don’t care and I’m just not that individual and I typically will will um buy things purposely that don’t have any logos or anything on them and I do the same thing with my vehicles now there’s some vehicles where you’re going to leave the logo on just because that’s what it is and but by taking it off you’re probably going to devalue the vehicle if it’s one of those vehicles no I’m not going to debadge it I’m going to leave everything on because that’s a different scenario but On a Chevy truck, am I debadging it? Yep, because I’m not changing the value of that truck at all in doing so. So the person that messaged that in, I get it. Believe me, I get it. And I understand that there are times where things just happen to especially work vehicles. And when that does, you just try to address it as you can. But you also have to realize that if it’s a vehicle you’re working out of and you’re using daily and you’re making money with that vehicle, yeah. Right. Things are going to happen, and it just is what it is. But that’s where Dietze and ProTech AutoShield come in because you can now pretty much PPF if you want to. Not pretty much. You can PPF the whole vehicle if you want to.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes, which is what we did with your truck.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes, which because of where I park and what I do and so on, I should have done that probably from the get-go because it just makes things look better, last longer, and so on. Now, when it comes to things like tonneau covers and hard covers and so on, can you PPF those or not?
SPEAKER 15 :
Hardcover, I mean, you can pretty much PPF anything as long as the adhesive is something where it can actually stay.
SPEAKER 05 :
Where it can stick?
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. Well, so there’s something to think about. If you’re somebody that’s got a hardcover and you want to protect that and not have that happen again, you could clear bra slash PPF it and not have that happen in the future. It just depends on how much money do you want to spend to protect against those things is the question.
SPEAKER 15 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s really what it boils down to.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
So we’ll be back in a moment. Don’t go anywhere, guys. If you have questions for us, lines are open 303-477-5600. Text line 307-282-22. Drive Radio KLZ 560.

Do you know that your windshield is getting more expensive to replace? Most vehicles have options that help keep the vehicles from avoiding accidents or even keep it in the traffic lane. These windshields require more than just a replacement of the glass. They also require a calibration of the computer system to make sure everything is operational to the specifications the manufacturer set When the vehicle was built, you can’t trust the traveling glass replacement shop to do these necessary calibrations as they require special equipment and in most cases, an indoor shop to perform the calibrations. We have two Novus locations that can replace your windshield and also do these calibrations. Novus Fort Collins and Novus Sterling. Both are fully equipped with the latest technology to service your vehicle properly. Find either location by going to any of our websites. Ready-radio.com, drive-radio.com, or fixitradio.com. SPEAKER 05 :
Somebody asked me really quick, too. Welcome back, by the way. How do we spell fuel? It’s not A-U-X. It’s O-X. Fuel Ox. So fuelox.com. Not A-U-X, but O-X, like an oxen. An oxen. Yeah, think of it that way. So Fuel Ox was the last segment we talked about with Rand. Craig in Loveland, you’re next. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, hey, I have a 70 Cutlass convertible, and it needed a windshield. So I called Novus Glass in Fort Collins and brought it in there. He said, yeah, I can have a windshield a couple of days. He ordered it, didn’t want to deposit. I was like, are you sure? He’s like, yeah, I trust you. So I brought it in there and he thought it was going to take a day, brought it in on Friday and ended up picking it up on Thursday. But I got to tell you, they were fantastic. Did a top notch job. Really nice. You know, I said, keep it as long as you need to just to do the job right, and they did it. And I know they advertise, Chris advertises on your show.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, he does. Chris, a good guy. And as you know, those are, believe it or not, for people listening, that’s one of those where that windshield’s harder to do than the new ones are. Yeah. Because of all the moldings and everything that it has that the new cars do not have.
SPEAKER 08 :
Exactly. And he’s like, you know, there was a little rust, a clip broke. You know, luckily we had an extra one. And I cleaned it all out and made it right. And it’s just even quieter. He says, whoever put it in last time didn’t do the right thing. And then he called me. The eight-pillar weatherstripping was all brittle and stuff. He’s like, man, I don’t think I can do it because the weatherstripping is brittle. I was like, don’t worry about it. I got new pillar weather stripping. So I was like, really? I was like, oh, yeah. So it worked out.
SPEAKER 05 :
Good job. That’s good to hear. Craig, thank you. And, yeah, for those of you listening, yeah, they can still get glass for those older cars. It might take them a little bit of time to do so. But, yeah, that glass is still available. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 08 :
And even classic, like custom cars and stuff. That’s right. JD is fantastic. That’s right. He really knows his stuff.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s awesome.
SPEAKER 08 :
So I would urge anyone who needs it to go in there and talk to him.
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s worth the drive. Absolutely, Craig. Worth the drive up there to do so. I appreciate you saying that.
SPEAKER 08 :
All right. Have a good day.
SPEAKER 05 :
Awesome, man. I appreciate it. Craig, thank you. Thank you for the testimonial. That is awesome. Yep, Chris. And then we’ve got Kent and Judy up in Sterling. Same situation. They will take care of you like no tomorrow. So thank you guys very much. Eric, you’re next. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 10 :
Hey, John.
SPEAKER 05 :
How are you, sir?
SPEAKER 10 :
Good. How are you guys today? Good. Okay, so I have one of those weird car guy questions, car enthusiast guy questions.
SPEAKER 05 :
Sure.
SPEAKER 10 :
That my wife and my mother-in-law want to kill me because of something.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
So took them out for Mother’s Day dinner last week.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 10 :
As we come walking out of the chart house, parked next to us was a brand-new, limited-edition, 2026 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish. Okay. It starts at $450,000. Okay. And they both went to open the passenger side doors to get in, and I was like, absolutely not. I will pull forward so you can get in. They both looked at me and were like, why? And I go, because one of the two of you is liable to hit the side of that car. I think I was overreacting. I mean, of course, my wife is the one who has dinged or dent or damaged every single car we’ve owned.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, you’re not overreacting. I would have done exactly the same thing. And not because I don’t trust somebody. It’s just all it takes is one little accidental slip, and, yeah, we don’t want to do that.
SPEAKER 15 :
Especially on an awesome ride.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, if I pointed out to them, I would have to sell one of them to pay for the damage.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, I would have done the same thing you did, Eric. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, my father-in-law has been dead a number of years. He was a car guy, and I’m sure he was up there in heaven just laughing at what I did. Because my mother-in-law just glared at me. And my wife, she just gave me this look. And when I said, I would have to sell one of you to pay for the debt, she just rolled her eyes. And she’s like, oh, we wouldn’t. And I go, given your history, yeah, you might.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and again, even me personally, yeah, if I was the passenger in that particular scenario, I would have said, you know, pull up and I’ll get in once you pull out of the parking place. I mean, I just think that’s the – by the way, for all of you that are out there that are ever in that scenario where you’ve parked and somebody else has come in and all of a sudden there’s that type of a car parked next to you, yeah, that’s a nice thing to do, Eric. You did it correctly.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, exactly. And the other part of it, too, is if nobody has seen one of those cars – They’ve only been out since last fall. Look it up online. I mean, that’s just, oh, my God. We come out, and I was like, what is that? And then as I got closer, it had the blackout badging on it, and I was like, oh. My wife’s like, what is it? And I told her, and she goes, okay. And I’m like, yeah, yeah. I was showing her pictures later on, and she’s like, how much? And I says, well, it starts at about $450,000. and she’s like why and i just i just laughed i was like why not because i said it’s not a because you can i said it’s not a ferrari but i would actually take it over a ferrari probably yeah it’s it’s its own as you know it’s its own car and and they’ve got their own history with you know james bond and all of that so you know there’s a lot of history there also yeah exactly very cool no you did the right thing i would have done the same thing i’m glad to And I’m sure there’s listeners out there right now rolling their eyes, and I’m sure there’s listeners out there right now applauding me also and agreeing with me.
SPEAKER 05 :
Most of ours are probably applauding you.
SPEAKER 10 :
All right, thanks, Scott.
SPEAKER 05 :
Good stuff, Eric. Nope, you did that the correct way. I wouldn’t have done it any differently. Scott, you’re next. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 07 :
Hey, John. Formerly Scott the RN from Park Hill that escaped the Cheyenne.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, all right.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’ve been listening to you for…
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, thank you, man. I appreciate it greatly. Where are you at now, Scott?
SPEAKER 07 :
In wonderful Wyoming.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m one of those escapees.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
But I’m calling today. I know you guys love your window coatings, and I just bought a new-to-me Tacoma, and there’s an absolutely beautiful, professional… window coatings on the driver and passenger side windows on that truck, but it’s just way too dark for me. How hard is that for a professional or a non-professional to remove down to the factory tinting?
SPEAKER 15 :
That’ll depend on the material they used to tint them in the first place. If they used good quality material, it should come off pretty easily. Usually if it’s like a cheaper material, the adhesive tends to stay behind, and then that’s when it kind of takes a while to remove.
SPEAKER 05 :
To get off.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
Is it… Unfortunately, I’ve got no history on the tinting, so… But a professional… should be able to tell before they start trying to take it off if it’s good or not?
SPEAKER 15 :
No. So usually you’ll know as soon as, like, you have to get started on it.
SPEAKER 05 :
You start peeling, you know. Yeah. And, Scott, a lot of, like, Dietze, they will use steam and do things along those lines to try to, you know, that’s where they can do it a little easier than somebody at home could because of that technique.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, so when we’re removing window tint, we use a steamer. We literally just kind of start heating it up a little bit, start from a corner, and then you kind of start peeling it back slowly. You don’t want to rip it off because if you rip it off, the adhesive stays behind.
SPEAKER 05 :
And that’s what’s hard to get off.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes, and that’s what’s hard to get off because it’ll… It’s kind of like removing decals off of paint or windows.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 07 :
If you do it right, it all comes off beautifully. Correct. But if you don’t, then you have another hour of trying to… That’s right. You’re right.
SPEAKER 05 :
You’re correct. Yes. Correct. Correct. Yeah, because there are times, Scott, even in their world where a mistake gets made, there’s a scratch or a bubble or something, and they’ve got to peel that back off. So to Dietz’s point, the higher the quality of the tint, the easier it is to get it back off. You’d think it would be the opposite, that the higher quality tint would have worse adhesive or better adhesive that would actually be stickier, but it’s the opposite. The better the quality, the easier it is to peel it back off.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes. And, I mean, the longer it’s been on, the harder it gets.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s true, too. How old did you say it was? I didn’t hear that, Scott.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, the truck is old. It’s a 2011 Tacoma. Okay. But the coating on the windows looks like it has absolutely no wear whatsoever. It looks perfect, but I can tell it’s aftermarket because you’ve got that line at the top.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s right. That’s exactly right. Yeah, they weren’t tinted from the factory, so that’s had to have been added on.
SPEAKER 07 :
What? Do they look…
SPEAKER 15 :
So they don’t look faded at all, correct?
SPEAKER 07 :
No. And it’s just, it’s nearly black, and I absolutely hate it.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s hard to see out of.
SPEAKER 07 :
I don’t like that. Yeah. I know you like your dark windows, John, but I just don’t like them. Not that dark.
SPEAKER 05 :
I’m a motorcycle rider. Yeah, and the reason I don’t like them that dark is it’s hard to see out at night. So I’m one where I will do the legal limit because I want to be able to see out at night.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, but I like this. I’m a motorcycle rider. And I like to see faces, and unfortunately with most of the dark tint, I can’t and I don’t think you can see me half the time.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right, right.
SPEAKER 07 :
But I know that’s for another discussion because you like your dark tinting on your windows.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, well, like I say, I like it where I can still see out at night, so I don’t like it super dark. I’ll do the legal limit because I want to see at night.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right. Well, hey, thanks so much.
SPEAKER 05 :
You bet.
SPEAKER 07 :
And the show, you’re getting us through eastern Washington. We drove from Cheyenne to Whidbey Island in Puget Sound, and now we’re driving back.
SPEAKER 05 :
Nice. Well, have a safe trip, Scott. Appreciate you, man, very much.
SPEAKER 07 :
Looking forward to Fuel Ox. That sounds great.
SPEAKER 05 :
We’re going to do our testing on it. Believe me, you’ll know here in a few weeks.
SPEAKER 07 :
Thank you, sir.
SPEAKER 05 :

SPEAKER 14 :
Hey, how’s it going, John? Good, sir. Well, good. Hey, got a question for you. Yes. As you know, I bought a Suburban from my son-in-law. He has a shop, and he put a new Jasper engine in it. It failed at 39,000 miles. They would not warranty it. So I was forced with the opportunity to buy another car. So he had an Audi Q5 in his shop that had a blown engine. The young gal that was driving it poked a hole in the oil pan and just kept driving it and ruined the engine. So he found a salvin engine with 67,000 miles. He put it in, runs like a top. I’ve had the top end of the… The valve is cleaned with the BG system and had an oil change, of course, because I didn’t know all the history of the engine. But I need to have the transmission changed, the transmission oil changed. And the Audi shop that I took it to for the oil change quoted me $1,400 to change the oil in the transmission. What year, Q5? It’s 2011. It has a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder.
SPEAKER 05 :
And the reason for being so expensive was what?
SPEAKER 14 :
You got me. Because they can’t.
SPEAKER 05 :
wow that’s high i mean i know the fluid cost is high but it’s not fourteen hundred dollars high no and are you having any issues with the transmission you would have a recommendation where i could take it to somebody honest okay well and how many miles uh what’s the mileage on it wayne
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, the car has 137, but the engine has 67, so the transmission has 137. Okay. And I don’t know the history. It runs great. I mean, there’s nothing obvious that’s a problem.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 14 :
It runs great.
SPEAKER 05 :
Shifts fine, everything is good. What’s the fluid look like now?
SPEAKER 14 :
I don’t know.
SPEAKER 05 :
In other words, you know, is it – where I’m going with this is has it been – it’s had to have been serviced, I would think, in that 140K at some point.
SPEAKER 14 :
I would think so, but to be honest with you, I can’t find the automatic transmission oil dipstick if there is one.
SPEAKER 06 :
He may not have one. There probably isn’t. No, it’s a burn the top of your head one. You’ve got to get it warm, put it up, and then you open a hole, and if it burns the top of your head, it’s full. That’s how it works for me.
SPEAKER 05 :
And that’s what I’m going with. Did the other shop check that? Do they know what the condition of the fluid looks like? So on and so forth. Again, I’m trying to figure out why it’s $1,400. That just seems really, really high.
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, they said something about having to remove something to get the filter out. Okay. Heck, you could remove the engine for that price.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, not quite, but I get where you’re going. I would take that over to, because Geno’s, they specialize in the VW end of things, and that’s Audi also. I would take it over to Geno’s and have those guys look at it, Wayne.
SPEAKER 14 :
Geno’s in Littleton?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes. I mean, it’s a little bit of a drive from you, but those guys know their stuff and would look at it for you.
SPEAKER 14 :
Okay. That’s what I needed was a recommendation, but I got to tell you, that little four-cylinder scooch.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, yeah, they work well.
SPEAKER 14 :
It gets great gas mileage, but, you know, I don’t know whether it even needed to have the top of the valves cleaned, but I went ahead and had it done.
SPEAKER 05 :
You’re not hurting anything by doing so.
SPEAKER 14 :
No, no. All right. Well, that’s what I need. Is there anything else I should be looking out for, maintenance items that I need to pay particular attention to?
SPEAKER 05 :
I’d have them just, I mean, your son probably already has done a full bumper-to-bumper, but Geno’s is going to do, if they go do the transmission service, they’re going to do bumper-to-bumper on it anyway, so it isn’t going to matter at that point. Just have them look at it.
SPEAKER 14 :
Okay. I’ll schedule a time with them.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right. Wayne, appreciate you very much. Thanks, as always. I appreciate it. Conrad’s next. Go ahead, Conrad.
SPEAKER 12 :
Hey, John, did you get those pictures?
SPEAKER 05 :
I just am looking right now. Give me one second. I didn’t get a chance to do that on air. I got them with me. Yep, I’ve got them now. Yes.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay. Well, here’s the deal. I see the first picture was the engine that’s in the car right now, the 460, which Ford Torino’s in that year. They did come with them, some of them. You could get one. But it’s really tight there between the right-hand valve cover and the heater box.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right, I see that.
SPEAKER 12 :
Maybe a… three quarters of an inch at the most. And my concern is, is that new engine, it’s the same block, cylinder block, but the heads, those AFR heads might be a little taller if I’m gonna hit that, you know?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, I think you’re planning on putting your original valve covers back on, right?
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, yeah, if we could use them. They’re not really originals. They’re those more blue thunder, those really cool-looking ones.
SPEAKER 05 :
Because I think they’re shorter than your Mickey Thompsons. Am I right in saying that?
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, but we’ll have to put a spacer in there so the rocker arms don’t hit them. Because they’re not tall enough?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I think you’re going to be tight on that heater box.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah. I guess my best thing to do would be probably to talk to the guys at Cars Remember Winning because they’re going to do the install. I don’t know how close the evaporator is inside that box, if they could maybe notch it somehow and then repatch it over.
SPEAKER 05 :
I don’t know. That’s a great question.
SPEAKER 12 :
Oh, you don’t know?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, I don’t know how tight it is. I am not an expert on Torinos and the heater box. I have no clue how close that is.
SPEAKER 12 :
Right.
SPEAKER 05 :
And by the way, I’m not sure any – you’re going to have to just open it and look. I don’t know if there’s any other way to know, Conrad.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yep, you’re probably right. That’s what I was thinking, too. But, you know, they’re going to have it for however long it takes to do the install. We’re almost ready to take the engine up to GAM and Greeley. I think we’re waiting on a water pump, the factory that makes them.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 12 :
It’s out in California. They had something happen out there, and anyway, they’re shipping it out Monday. But he went ahead and got one from a model park store, a stock one, just so he could get all the bolts fitted right. And so we got that all figured out. But I think he’s got everything else pretty much ready to go. But anyway, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, and again, I’m looking even at the, you know, with no valve covers on, just to see how much, I mean, you don’t have much, I mean, you’re really limited. You’re going to have to do heater box modification, I think, above anything.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, yeah. So I guess we’ll take it.
SPEAKER 05 :
Which leads to another question. Does anybody make, I mean, this can’t be the first time an engine like this has ever gone in a Trino. Has anybody made any other heater box? Is there anybody out there that forms or anything where they’ve done heater box modifications by chance, Conrad?
SPEAKER 12 :
I’m going to get on the Internet and look, but I remember when they did the Starsky and Hutch movie. They showed the inside of the engine compartment. Those cars had 351 Windsors in them that were all tricked out to be super powerful, and they did that so the front end wouldn’t be so heavy. They were doing the stunts to tear the front wheels out from under them, and they were spinning them around with that big engine in there. They had kind of a weird-looking, round, dome-looking fan system. assembly right there where the heater boxes usually go i you know i guess we have to do that maybe we can but i i really want to be able to have my ac if possible gotcha i don’t blame you maybe we maybe we can notch it or something you know not that might be able to uh it’s made out of a it looks kind of like a picture i think it’s fiberglass is what that’s made out of i’m pretty sure yeah yeah no it’s fiberglass yeah i can tell by looking at it yes Maybe they could take that over to the body shop there and they could notch it out and then bring it back and put it all back together and make it work. But anyway, I guess the best thing for me to do is just take the car over there and have them look at it. That’s what I would say. See what we can do.
SPEAKER 05 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay. You take care, brother.
SPEAKER 05 :
We’ll do it. Thank you, Conrad. Appreciate you very much. Nope, thank you. By the way, lines are open. And like I said, we’re not going to be here next weekend. Memorial Day weekend, we will be off. So if you’ve got any questions this last hour, please let us know. Main line, again, 303-477-5600. 303-477-5600. Text line as well, 307. Two hundred eighty two twenty two. Really quick to going back to the we had the question earlier on the, you know, heavy smoke tint on the sides. What is and I know it’s different from state to state, but what’s the Colorado law for how dark those can be on the because the front windows have to be according to law. The rest of the windows, you can do whatever you want to, but those two front windows have to be by law.
SPEAKER 15 :
Uh, the two front windows should be 30%. Okay. If you have the rest of the vehicle at 30%. Okay. Uh, windshield, you can have a 70%. Um, if you want to have darker windows on the back, uh, so down to like 5% or whatever you want, right? Yep. You can do whatever you want as long as the front are 70. Okay. So there’s a little like. If you do something, you can do something else. If you don’t do something, you can’t have it in the front. It really depends.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. And, again, that really comes down to personal preference, and there’s different types of tint you can do, the ceramic tint and all sorts of things. So just go see you guys.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, so there’s a lot of different types of film.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right. Guys, we’ll be back. Another full hour coming your way. Don’t go anywhere. Again, lines are open, 303-477-5600. Drive Radio, KLZ 560.
