SPEAKER 02 :
Being an expert on general automotive knowledge, what would the correct ignition timing be on a 1955 Bel Air Chevrolet with a 327 cubic inch engine and a four barrel carburetor?
SPEAKER 15 :
It is a trick question. Watch this. A Chevy didn’t make a 327 in 55. The 327 didn’t come out till 62. And it wasn’t offered in the Bel Air with a four-barrel carb till 64. However, in 1964, the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top dead center.
SPEAKER 04 :
Get ready for another hour of Drive Radio, brought to you by Colorado Select Auto Care Centers. Got a question for the experts? Then give them a call, 303-477-5600. Now it’s time to pop the hood and get our hands dirty. Drive Radio on KLZ 560 The Source.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right. We are back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560. Thanks for joining us, Roy and Dietze, both from ProTech Auto Shield over in Wheat Ridge. We’ll talk more about what they do here throughout this hour. Scott in Wheat Ridge, though, go ahead. You’re next.
SPEAKER 08 :
Hey, John. Thanks for taking my call. Two quick questions. I’m thinking about buying a car, a new car. Would you recommend I do that through a broker or through the dealership?
SPEAKER 06 :
What kind of car are you looking for?
SPEAKER 08 :
It’s either going to be a GV70 Genesis or the RX350 from Lexus.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. Yeah, and really, that one comes down to, and I’ll tell this to anybody, how much work and how do you feel about actually doing a deal on your own at the dealership? In other words, what’s your skill set when it comes to dealing with them?
SPEAKER 08 :
Very little.
SPEAKER 06 :
In that case, get a broker. You’ll end up saving money when it’s all said and done. Several of them around town, Centennial Leasing and Sales, guys I’ve known for years, used to be one of our advertisers. They are more than willing to help you through a process along those lines and tell them you know me and you listen, and they’ll walk you through. Typically speaking, you can get as good a deal, if not better, with them without the hassle.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
Now, and the reason I ask is if you’re somebody that’s very familiar with the car world and you can walk in and you know exactly how that works and you can work around all of the nonsense that a lot of the dealers will do, not saying they’re all that way, but a majority of them are, if you’re familiar with all of that and you’re comfortable, then you can probably save some money doing it on your own. I say probably because The advantage that the brokers have, for everybody listening, is they buy and sell and do enough car deals throughout the year that they’ve got relationships with certain dealers whereby there’s none of that nonsense. Here’s our price. We need to make X amount of money. We’re going to sell it to you, Scott, for X amount of money. At the end of the day, it’s an easy, smooth transition, smooth process, I should say. Even on the financing thing, if needed, they can help you with all of that as well, and you’re not dinking around at the dealership for hours on end.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
And in most cases, by the way, they’ll even deliver the vehicle to you.
SPEAKER 08 :
All right.
SPEAKER 06 :
In other words, you don’t even leave your home or your business. They’ll deliver it right to where you’re at.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, that would be helpful. Second question. We have a 2014 Pathfinder. Where is a reputable source to find out what it really is worth?
SPEAKER 06 :
Same place. They can do that for you as well. And our Ridgeline guys at Ridgeline Auto Brokers, they can help you with that also. They can help with the new car end of things. I’m not sure they’ve got the same access to the new car end of things as what a Centennial Leasing would. You could ask them, and they could tell you that, and you could even just call Justin even today and say, hey, looking to get rid of one vehicle, looking to buy another vehicle, you know, how can you help me with all of that? And they may very well be able to do all of that as well.
SPEAKER 08 :
Is that Justin at Centennial Leasing?
SPEAKER 06 :
No, Justin’s at Ridgeland, Ridgeland Auto Brokers.
SPEAKER 08 :
All right.
SPEAKER 06 :
And they’re one of our sponsors, RidgelandAutoBrokers.com.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
Great guys. They’ll help you. And even on that particular vehicle, they may, you know, even if you decide, listen, I don’t even want to dink around with trading or whatever, they might just buy it from you.
SPEAKER 07 :
OK.
SPEAKER 06 :
OK. Good source. Just give him a call. Will do. You bet, Scott. Thank you very much. Yeah. When it comes to and I say this a lot when it comes to, you know, vehicles, situations like that. And that’s one of those things where I will get questions throughout the week, evenings, weekends, whatever. Hey, I’m looking to buy this vehicle. I’m looking to do this. I’m looking to do that. What do you think of this? What do you think of that? What kind of had a question this morning on, you know, what diesel truck should I buy? And, again, that’s always hard to answer because everybody’s needs are a little bit different. But I gave my opinion, and they can take that opinion and do something with it if they desire. And for a lot of you listening, I get those questions a lot. And, no, we do not charge extra to help people when it comes to the advice on buying and selling cars. There’s a lot of Internet advice. YouTube, TikTok, et cetera, quote unquote shoppers, buying services, I guess you would call them, where they’re helping you with the deal on the car itself. Those guys all charge. I don’t. At the end of the day, if you need help along those lines, I’ll walk you through the process, how that works, what you should do. Is it a good deal? Is it not a good deal? We do that constantly. And no, we don’t charge any extra to do that. And maybe I should, but… We don’t. We just help, again, it’s part of what we do on the radio here, and no, I don’t charge anybody for that. Okay, let’s talk, Roy and Dietze, real quick, before we go to our next break, something, and I know you guys have been testing this, and it’s going to become a bigger and bigger deal as time goes by, and that is… coating, and it’s a sheet, so when I say coating, it’s a film, I guess you could say, other than it’s not like regular window film, but on the outside of the windshield rather than inside the glass. How are we coming along on that? I know you guys have done some testing on different products and so on. Where are we at with that?
SPEAKER 14 :
It’s still fairly new. So far, we like the one from Ceramic Pro, which is also from Sorry. Hold up. I got my brass mixed up. You’re fine. So it’s from Expel.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay, Expel. We’ve been trying different brands.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I know you guys. That’s why I’m asking.
SPEAKER 12 :
So that’s why we get a little confused. No, no, you’re fine. But the last one that we’ve been using is from Expel. Okay. And I think it’s been working really good.
SPEAKER 06 :
And Expel is the same company you use for window tint, correct? Yes. Okay, so same company there. And for those of you listening, it’s a product that goes on the outside floor. Of the windshield. And one of the things I know you guys have been testing to see how things work is remember that windshield wipers, things like that, are also on that same surface now, and that’s where sometimes it can get a little bit weird, right? Am I saying that correctly?
SPEAKER 14 :
Yes, and it doesn’t have the same lifetime as regular PPF, just so everybody knows, because PPF can go up to like 10 years. Sure, stuff’s not rubbing on it all the time like a windshield wiper would be.
SPEAKER 06 :
Exactly. And taking the abuse that a windshield has. Yes.
SPEAKER 12 :
That’s one of the reasons we’ve been trying different brands because the – The other brands that we’ve been trying before, with the wipers, they kind of leave scratches. They make scratches on the windshield.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I can see that. Wherever that wiper’s at, if there’s dirt on the wiper or whatever, because you try to get it wet as quickly as you can, but sometimes the squirters, it’s rubbing on, it’s dry. It’s the rubber running on the dirt, and that’s what scratches it.
SPEAKER 12 :
And sometimes you don’t see those scratches, but when you’re driving against the sunlight… And you can see nothing.
SPEAKER 06 :
This is one thing. Everything you guys do, I’ve pretty much seen, been attested to it, watched you guys do it and so on. Everything from detailing to PPF to window tint to the ceramic coating and all of that. I’ve seen literally all of that. The one thing I’ve not had any experience with is this product. What does it look like? Does it come in a big roll? Does it come per vehicle? Is it in a sheet? How thick is it? All of that.
SPEAKER 14 :
It comes in a big roll.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, so it comes in a big roll.
SPEAKER 12 :
It’s just like a, you’re going to see, I mean, it’s like a PPF. Okay. It’s very similar.
SPEAKER 06 :
Is it as pliable as PPF or is it thicker than that? It’s a different.
SPEAKER 14 :
It’s like a mix between PPF and window film.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 14 :
So you still have to shrink it, but it kind of, it’s a little more malleable than regular window tint. Okay. It’s kind of like a mix of both.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. Is it really hard compared to PPF? I mean, is it a harder material than PPF, or is it roughly the same?
SPEAKER 14 :
It’s roughly the same.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah. It’s just the technology is different because one is made to absorb, you know what I mean, the damage of the rock chip.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 12 :
This one, same thing, but you got to… You have the wipers here in this case.
SPEAKER 06 :
So do you ceramic coat this when you’re done to try to help with that or not?
SPEAKER 12 :
Yes. So it is recommended to, after you install it, you have to install some kind of a ceramic coating like every three months.
SPEAKER 06 :
To try to protect the wipers and all of that, right?
SPEAKER 12 :
So make it and get new wipers too.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, dumb question for me. If you’re doing the coating on top of that material and things are really beating up, which I know they do under ceramic coating, do you even have to use the wipers as much? Is that one of the benefits?
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, you wouldn’t have to use them as much.
SPEAKER 06 :
Because the water is going to roll off, right?
SPEAKER 14 :
Yes. The ceramic coating creates less friction, so things don’t attach to it as much.
SPEAKER 06 :
I hate using my wipers, by the way. Okay. I drive my wife nuts. She’s like, would you turn the wipers on? I’m like, no, I hate those things. I’m one of those guys, I go as long as I can until I actually have to turn them on. And if I have anything like that on it, I may not turn them on at all. Because I just hate them. I’m that wife. Because eventually it’s going to scratch the glass. I don’t care what you do. Wipers, even of themselves, will even over time scratch the glass. It’s just the way it is. Yeah. So I do my best. It’s like me not rolling the window down. I have a phobia about that. I don’t roll windows down unless it’s super clean because that dirt that’s on the window will get in that felt that’s on the outside of the glass, and that’s how glass gets scratched.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
So I do my best to not roll the window down either. I know I’m weird, but you guys already know me, so I am that way. Yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yes, it’s the same principle with wipers. If they’re dirty, you’re going to scratch it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. Now, how – and I got a big, huge rock chip this last week. Kent and Judy from Sterling are going to help me with it today at Novus. But here’s a question I’ve got. How big of a rock will it absorb before it actually cracks the windshield or causes the bullseye?
SPEAKER 14 :
So that depends. There’s not like one size fits all kind of thing. Right. Because, you know, speed has a lot to do with it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Sure. How big the rock is, all those sorts of things, right? I mean, I got one this week that literally is almost like somebody shot me. I mean, if I would have known any better, I would have thought that’s what it was. It wasn’t. I saw the rock actually – and there’s not a single thing you can do about it. I mean, when it’s there, it’s there. But, man, this thing was, you know, it was the size of about a quarter. And when they’re that big, there’s nothing you can do about it.
SPEAKER 12 :
No, we had a customer with Arabian, and I think they can talk to you about this a little bit more. But we installed the windshield protection film, right? I mean, he changed the windshield, and he came – To our shop right away.
SPEAKER 06 :
So we installed this. Right off the bat. Yeah. So fresh windshield. You put that on. And.
SPEAKER 14 :
He had it for a week and got hit by a big rock again. And.
SPEAKER 06 :
And he went through the.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, he went through the windshield protection film. But it only caused a tiny star. Rather than.
SPEAKER 06 :
Rather than a big huge bullseye.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 12 :
So it did help a bunch. Yeah. I’m thinking, I mean, without it, it would have made a little.
SPEAKER 06 :
Would have ruined the windshield.
SPEAKER 12 :
Oh, yeah. You have to replace the windshield again.
SPEAKER 06 :
A week later. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, so even if you do get hit by a huge rock, I mean, it will still minimize the damage.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, good to know. And, again, that’s something for all of you listening. You can get done at ProTech AutoShield. And I’m sorry, I should have said this during first hour. How do folks get a hold of you guys? What’s the best way to do that? What phone number do they use?
SPEAKER 14 :
720-832-8481.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right. We’ll come back. Any questions, by the way, for Roy or Ditsa, please ask today. Text line 307-282-22, or you can call directly 303-477-5600 and ask that question on air. We’ll be right back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560.

Here’s why you need personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch on your side. He understands the way the jury thinks. In the context of a personal injury case, you’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. The idea is that you’re going to try to recover so that you can get back to where you were just prior to that incident occurring. What that really means from a jurist’s perspective is that you’re going to be asking them to award you money. So when we talk about fairness, we’re talking about six people that you don’t know. Those six people view the evidence and make a unanimous decision that will decide what the fair value is. When you’re the one who’s hurt, you have a good idea of what you think it’s worth. The question is, can you persuade those other individuals whom you don’t know and were witnesses to believe that’s what the case is worth? Kevin Flesch understands the way the jury thinks. SPEAKER 02 :
A dinner was served for three at Dracula’s house by the sea. The orders were fine, but I choked on my wine when I learned that the main course was me.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right, we are back. Again, Drive Radio, KLZ 560. And this came from Kent and Judy up in Sterling. They said, just remember, if you do that windshield protection, if you get a rock chip, yep, that’s going to have to come off to get fixed. And then you put another one back on top of it. So, yep, that’s good to know. That makes total sense.
SPEAKER 12 :
Sometimes it’s cheaper. to redo the windshield protection film that replacing the windshield.
SPEAKER 06 :
It depends on what you’re driving. Absolutely. Yeah. And by the way, that’s one of those where, you know, when you get a newer vehicle, ask, I mean, what’s a windshield going to cost for this particular vehicle? And then make some of those decisions on what you want to try to do at the end of the day, because some of these are getting super expensive.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, example for my truck, Toyota Tacoma, I think it costs about $800, $900 to replace the windshield versus $300, $400 to do the windshield protection film.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, so there’s an idea. So, again, some of you listening, depending upon what you’re driving, might be worthwhile to take a peek at that. Again, you guys make the decisions on that. That’s one of those you have to decide on your own what you want to do at the end of the day, so. What’s your Silverado? Silverado?
SPEAKER 12 :
Your windshield, your Silverado.
SPEAKER 06 :
I can only imagine. I haven’t looked, but I’ll bet it’s two grand if it’s a nickel. I’ll bet when it’s all said and done with all of the Super Cruise and all the rest of the stuff that it’s got on it, I’ll be shocked if it’s not that much. Too much. But it is what it is. What do you do? But, yeah, that’s a great example where if it’s that expensive, what do you do to try to – Okay, question of the day. I didn’t mention this earlier. I should have. We’re halfway through the program now, and I should have done this earlier. I apologize. We got busy doing other things. Give us cars. Maybe I guess you could say your favorite car in horror films. And I know the big one’s going to be, of course, Christine. I’ll just get that one out of the way. That’s probably the biggest car in all of the movies ever because the car took on a personality of its own and just a weird film. But give me other thoughts on, you know, cars in horror films or, you know, even if it’s just a favorite car in a movie, whatever you want to do there. Just give us, you know, give us your thoughts. 303. 477-5600. Okay, back to the ceramic coating. And this is, again, this is one of those, we talked about the counterfeit parts in the last hour. We had a call that came in, and we were just talking from Jerry, talking about counterfeit parts and so on. Now, I know that not necessarily counterfeit, but the way things are advertised, we talked about this with Jeff, it matters. And… I will say that when it comes to the ceramic coating, for example, there’s a lot of products out there that will say, you know, has or includes, you know, quote-unquote ceramic coating. And sometimes it could be something as simple as a spray-on type wax, or they’ll sell it as, you know, quote-unquote ceramic coating. But I know from talking to you guys, there’s no way a homeowner can do ceramic coating the right way with those products. Talk about that.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, so there’s different ways to do the ceramic coating on your vehicle. So it depends what you want to do, like talking about money.
SPEAKER 06 :
I want to do it the way you do it because at the end of the day, I know how well it works.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, we do it our job. You do it the right way. Yeah, we do it the right way. We do a paint correction before applying the ceramic coating.
SPEAKER 06 :
And for everybody listening, the reason why that is so key is is, and this is where the homeowner stuff, I just know, if they’re not walking you through this process, you’re not going to get the same result because you’re not even, it’s sort of like in our number one today, Fix It Radio, we had a guy come on talking about stains and doing decks and restaining wood and so on. And by the way, it’s sort of the same principle when it comes to your paint. If you’re not taking everything that’s already on the paint off, getting everything clean, getting the pores of that paint opened up, if you would, having the right temperature even to where you’re then putting on the actual ceramic coating, it’s not the same, is it, Roy? No, it’s not the same.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, so we had, for example, we had a vehicle this last week. As we were doing the paint correction, we realized that it had a lot of sand scratches from when it was repainted.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 14 :
So we have to correct that. Yeah, we have to correct that.
SPEAKER 06 :
Otherwise, the ceramic coating just makes that look that much worse, right? Because it’s going to bring all that out. You’re going to have shiny scratches.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
Shiny scratches.
SPEAKER 01 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
Good way to say it. Yep.
SPEAKER 14 :
So you have to make sure that all that’s gone before you do the ceramic coating.
SPEAKER 06 :
Again, otherwise you’re like what Roy just said, you get shiny scratches.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, in this case, I remember this customer, we have to call him and say, hey, we got to do some sanding, I mean, before applying the ceramic coating. Otherwise, you’re going to have shiny scratches.
SPEAKER 06 :
And I’m assuming a darker color car probably making it even worse, right?
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, it was a charcoal gray.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, yeah, darker color car, absolutely. Okay.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, so we called the customer, and he’s like, go for it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Don’t know what choice you have.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, because when they painted this car, the painter, they sent and polished the paint, but they didn’t polish it enough. So now he was dealing with the sand scratches from the painter.
SPEAKER 06 :
All you’re going to do is just add two and make everything there more brilliant, meaning you’re just going to see it that much more. And I can’t stress enough for everybody listening, and I’m not exaggerating when I say this, if you had two cars parked out in a parking lot side by side, Now that I’ve been around it enough, especially on like a black car, I could tell you which one’s ceramic coated and which one’s not just by looking at it because the shine is that much different.
SPEAKER 12 :
The shine, it gives you that look like a wet finish.
SPEAKER 06 :
And the care, and I said this earlier, but the care afterwards, and again, not an exaggeration, but… how well the the car how should i say this how easy it is to wash how fast it dries because you know keep in mind that like when you you guys are old schoolers especially you go wax the car you see how everything beads up once you’ve got the wax on it and so on well just take that times 10 with ceramic coating and i’m not exaggerating when i say that meaning everything just rolls off the car, so it makes it that much easier to even get the car dry. And like I said, I can tell you the difference between a black car that’s ceramic-coated versus a white car that isn’t, and it is a night-and-day difference, and the white car is harder to take care of right now. It will get ceramic-coated here eventually, but it’s harder to take care of than the black car is. It should be the opposite, because normally white’s the easiest color to own, but if it’s not ceramic-coated, it is not. So it’s a huge difference. So Bob and Thornton, go ahead.
SPEAKER 10 :
Hey, John, I’ve had, since you have been talking about ceramic coating, which has been a couple of years.
SPEAKER 06 :
A couple of years now, yep, absolutely.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I have three cars now that I’ve done that with. Now, I have a couple of cars that are commercial cars that I use for Uber. I don’t bother with them because I turn them over. But anyway, my premium cars, which are… Chevy Equinox 2024, Cadillac, a Kia Carnival. I’ve had those, and the nicest thing that I like about the ceramic coating is I don’t have to wash the cars. I spray them off with a little bit of garden hose water, and then I have a cordless leaf blower and blow them off, and I’m done. I mean, my car wash days.
SPEAKER 06 :
And, Bob, you’re really taking the words out of my mouth as well. I mean, people that don’t have it, that don’t understand this and haven’t been through it, it’s really, I mean, we’re explaining it, but I don’t think, Bob, until you experience, you really understand the value.
SPEAKER 10 :
Nothing sticks.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, it’s awesome. I mean, it’s amazing.
SPEAKER 10 :
Even the road, you know, chloride that they put on the roads and stuff, it sticks.
SPEAKER 06 :
It is. Bob, you’re giving a great testament. It’s night and day. It really is. It’s totally different.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah. Now, Bob, can I ask you a question? Yeah, sure. Did you do this by yourself, or you had somebody else doing it for you?
SPEAKER 10 :
No, I had it done. I have a neighbor, and he works for a company that sells all the… commercial products for that, and he has a little sideline. He has a nice four-car garage, and he does it. He charges me, I think, let’s see, he charged me $500. And two for $600. That’s a good deal. It keeps them three days.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, there you go. And there’s your time, too, Bob. For most people that don’t have access to somebody like that, which there’s not a lot of those guys roaming around, you’ve got a huge advantage. But at the end of the day, yeah, this isn’t something that is to be taken lightly. Again, I want to remind everybody, it doesn’t come in a spray bottle. You don’t spray it on, wipe it off like a lot of the videos and stuff would make you think it is, Bob. As you know, that’s not how this is done.
SPEAKER 10 :
No, he’s got like a seven-step project or six steps. Yep. He does a wash, then he does a clay bar.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, paint correction, all that.
SPEAKER 10 :
He does a correction. Yep. And then the – I don’t know how many steps there is on the ceramic, but he does it all. He works – his regular job is a – He sells the chemicals and everything that you probably use, you know, professional stuff.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 10 :
So he knows what he’s doing.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s good. Good for you. I mean, they—oh, God, it looks like a shiny— Yeah, and again, Bob, like you—and you know now from being around it, you could tell in a parking lot one that’s been done versus one that hasn’t. I know I can, and— Again, for anybody that doesn’t have any experience with it, for those of you that really like to keep your car nice and you’re somebody that, like me, very particular, somebody just asked me a moment ago in a text message that, you know, are all of my cars, even that I drive daily, pristine? In other words, if I get a rock chip, does it get taken care of or do I drive with a cracked windshield? No. I’m one of those guys, even Roy knows this, if I get a little ding of any kind, it’s coming out. I can’t drive a car that’s not correct. Right.
SPEAKER 10 :
You know, I mean, I used to enjoy on a Saturday afternoon getting a bucket of hot soapy water and a big wash of my car. I’m 75 years old. I don’t do that anymore.
SPEAKER 06 :
I don’t blame you. Don’t blame you, Bob.
SPEAKER 10 :
I’m driving my car through car washes, and they go, oh, yeah, yeah, with all the little paddles and the wheels and stuff. And I know it’s beating up my car. And it costs me, even if I get an annual pass, I’m talking about $30-some dollars a month, every month, you know, for each car. I don’t do that anymore. I don’t do it anymore. I mean, I can get my hose out in the garage.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, no, great point. No, Bob, you’re preaching to the choir, and great testimony. I’ve got to go to break. I’ll let you go. But, no, that’s a great testimony. What Bob just said is exactly the way the ceramic coating works. And, again, I want to remind everybody, and Bob just explained it, it’s a several. five six seven whatever many steps it’s a multi-step let’s say it that way multi-step process and reason why i say it’s not a definitive because it depends on your car we just talked about a car that had to have additional things done because of the scratches that were in it so that becomes more steps than even average so i don’t want to say that it’s a three five seven it depends on you and well really depends on your car And what finish are you looking for when you’re all said and done as to how many steps you’re going to go through to get that car right? So every car is different. It’s not a one-size-fits-all because every car, including the color of the car, can have a lot to do with it. Again, white, very forgiving. Black, not so much. Right?
SPEAKER 12 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 06 :
We’ll come back, talk more about that. Questions, though, or any testimonials that you’ve got for us, please let us know. 303-477-5600. Drive Radio, KLZ 560.

Do you know that your windshield is getting more expensive to replace? Most vehicles have options that help keep the vehicles from avoiding accidents or even keep it in the traffic lane. These windshields require more than just a replacement of the glass. They also require a calibration of the computer system to make sure everything is operational to the specifications the manufacturer set when the vehicle was built. You can’t trust the traveling glass replacement shop to do these necessary calibrations. as they require special equipment and, in most cases, an indoor shop to perform the calibrations. We have two Novus locations that can replace your windshield and also do these calibrations, Novus Fort Collins and Novus Sterling. Both are fully equipped with the latest technology to service your vehicle properly. Find either location by going to any of our websites, ready-radio.com, drive-radio.com, or fixitradio.com. Just click on the Novus link. That’s Novus Autoglass.

SPEAKER 16 :
What’s the name of this song again, Charlie?
SPEAKER 06 :
The Martian Hop. There you go, The Martian Hop. There you go. Charlie’s digging into the archives. Not really. Somebody asked, is Charlie in the basement digging out all of the old vinyl records? No. Yeah, we play this on our other station, our sister station, Legends. And what’s the call letters again, Charlie? 8, 10 a.m., 93, 95, sorry, 95.3 FM. So you can listen to Legends that way. But no, we’ve got all this. Of course, it’s all now digital, and Charlie’s got a huge archive of music and so on. So nope, didn’t have to run to the, we don’t have a basement, so he didn’t have to run to the closet or the basement or do anything like that. Everything nowadays is digitized, and we’ve got access to all of that. So he pulls this stuff out and does a really great job. Okay, getting back to ceramic coating. And again, folks, I cannot stress enough that it works. For those of you that like your cars nicer than what the average person does, it’s not just a tool, but it is something that you take pride in. I will tell you that the ceramic coating not only makes your life easier, makes the car look better. The paint will look better even down the road when you go to do a trade, meaning you’re adding value to the vehicle at that point as well. Because I’m not joking, the paint will stay pristine. There’s some maintenance that you do on ceramic coating. Bring it back in every year, have something checked. You might even have to have a little bit of a recoat done periodically. But I will tell you straight up that that paint will look beautiful for years to come.
SPEAKER 12 :
In my opinion, this is the best time to do the ceramic coating, to install ceramic coating on your vehicle. Now we’re getting ready for wintertime, all the snow and the roads. Can’t argue that.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, as we head in right now, again, to the winter months, and we’re going to have more of the salt and the crud on the roads and so on, to Roy’s point, absolutely. And Bob said it, took the words out of my mouth, it makes washing and taking care of the car easier. so much easier. Again, I cannot stress enough how much easier it is to take care of the car when doing it, and it does work.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, and if you’re buying a new car this time of the year,
SPEAKER 06 :
Just do it right away. Do it right away. Yeah, do it now. Don’t drive it. Go ahead and get it done. Again, folks, it does work. Now, going to the PPF, the paint protection film, we used to call it clear bra. And that name, just for everybody listening, that name, the clear bra name, came from back in the day. I sold some of these. Before there was a clear film you could put on a car, people used to put, quote, unquote, bras on. on the car. They were made out of a vinyl material. They had kind of a felt-type backing to them. They, by the way, over time would still scratch the car, and the chemicals from washing the car would get down underneath it, and a lot of times it would change the clear color, you know, the clear coating a different color, and they were awful. The idea was protect the whole front of the vehicle. They were really big on, like, 911s and things like that where it had this whole nose that was out there that it did protect, But at the end of the day, they had their downfall as well, their downsides, I guess I should say. And as time went by, there were some folks, I don’t know who figured this out. Somebody figured out, wait a minute, why can’t we just take this material that we’ve developed, whoever, 3M, I don’t know who it was, but whoever developed that. NASA? NASA, yeah, whoever. Let’s just put this film across the front instead of having this black braw.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, the story I heard about Clearbrow, I mean, they invented it to put it on the helicopter blades.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh.
SPEAKER 12 :
So they protected the blades from the rocks.
SPEAKER 06 :
Sure, sure. That would make sense.
SPEAKER 12 :
But that was NASA.
SPEAKER 06 :
And that’s, okay, and then it developed into, let’s put it on the car.
SPEAKER 12 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 06 :
I did not know that.
SPEAKER 14 :
A lot of the technology that we use comes from NASA and astrophysics.
SPEAKER 12 :
Makes sense. And I think the same thing with the ceramic coating. Yeah, ceramic coating. Makes sense.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, like the extras that they use at the airport to check you, that comes from NASA, too.
SPEAKER 06 :
Ah, okay. I didn’t know that. Okay, so that’s the history. And originally… And I don’t know why, but originally all guys did was the nose of cars. That’s where the clear bra kind of nomenclature came from. Well, again, as time went by, people started realizing, wait a minute, we can put this film anywhere. It doesn’t have to be just on the nose. We can do the whole front end of the car. We can do the whole car. We can do the bedsides of somebody that’s a contractor and works out of their truck. We can do the tailgate. We can do the pillars on the car, which a lot of times get exposed to rock chips and so on. I mean, we can basically go through and put PPF wherever somebody wants to have, you know, PPF put. And there are, for those of you who maybe don’t know this, there’s a lot of exotic car owners where an entire PPF wrap, quote-unquote, is what guys will do because they want the entire car protected. Clear down to the door jams, the sills, the whole nine yards. It’s like bubble wrapping that exotic, and that’s what they do, right?
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, we actually just did a Tesla not that long ago. I think it was like a month ago maybe. We did a matte finish. It looked really nice.
SPEAKER 06 :
So matte finish PPF. Yes. Ah, okay. Because they make colored PPF now.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yes, they also make colored PPF.
SPEAKER 06 :
And the reason you do colored PPF is why? I mean, other than going to a matte black, but why?
SPEAKER 12 :
To change the look. I mean, the look of the vehicle. And at the same time, you’re protecting it from rock chips and all the scratches, door dings, stuff like that. Okay.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, because regular vinyl is not going to protect against rock chips. It’s way too thin.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, so the PPF is thicker than regular wrap.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, all right, and I think I knew that. And most of the wraps are done either for color change or advertising. Right? Is that kind of the two ways, the two reasons to do a wrap is for a color change or you’re advertising your business, right? Yeah. Or something along those lines. You, your business, you’re a realtor, you’re a business that’s got, I don’t know, you’re trying to advertise who knows what, but you put all that on your contract or your whatever, your roof or whatever, you put all that on your vehicle and off you go.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, and there’s also people that just do printed wraps just to change the look. I’ve seen anime cars.
SPEAKER 06 :
Wow, okay. By the way, speaking of that, Roy and Dietze just did another business that I’m coaching, and they’re up in the Longmont area. These guys have a mobile peak sharpening, it’s called. They have a mobile sharpening business. So those of you that are up in that area that have shops or you need things sharpened, everything from knives to drill bits to scissors to tools to whatever, If there’s anything along those lines you guys need done, please let me know. I’ll give you their name and phone number. They’re mobile. They’ll come directly to your business. And we’ll talk about them a little bit more here in the future as well. But, yeah, if you’re somebody that needs anything sharpened, we’ve got a great little community here, and they’re guys that have just joined us. And, yep, they will help you when it comes to the mobile sharpening end of things. If you’ve got anything you need sharpened at all, those of you that are even hair cutters, things like that, where you need scissors sharpened and done the right way, these guys are a professional sharpener. Stuart has a question on ceramic coating. Go ahead, Stuart.
SPEAKER 09 :
Hey, good morning, fellas, and Dietze. Great. First off, about cars, one TV show, Car 54, where are you?
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, good one. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, anyway, I know it’s not a scary movie.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, that’s all right. That still counts. That works, Stuart. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, now, how much is this ceramic coating going to cost an individual? Like, I have a classic AMX. It’s showroom fresh. It’s always garaged. It very rarely goes out into the world. If I ceramic coat something like that, that’s about the size of a Camaro or a Firebird. It’s $69. How about, like, say, for a Lincoln Corsair or a Hyundai Santa Fe? What is an average cost for something like that to ceramic coat it?
SPEAKER 14 :
So we start our pricing at around $1,300, but a lot of it is going to depend on the current condition of the vehicle. A lot of the cost is going to come from the labor on it, which is going to be the prep, including the paint correction. So it’s really going to depend.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, well, like my AMX, I mean, you wouldn’t have to correct too much paint on that because…
SPEAKER 06 :
Typically not, although, Stuart, you know, you would think even on a brand-new vehicle, you wouldn’t have much to correct. But, you know, honestly, you’d be surprised because, again, any slight imperfection, ceramic coating is just going to exacerbate that immensely. So you want to make sure everything’s all dialed in. And I haven’t done my old 68 Buick yet. That’s on our list. It sits on the top of the rack and kind of our last one we’ll do here at some point. But probably over the winter, that’ll be one we do, Stuart. And And I can tell you, like you, does it get driven a ton? No. But on the same token, do I want that car to last a long time because it’s a car I’ll probably hang on to for a while? Yeah, that’s my whole goal in doing it.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, I’ve had this car since it was a baby. I mean, I ordered from the factory. Gotcha. And I had it repainted once by Matrix Auto Body. Dave down there, he did a very, very good job. They hand-sanded it six times, hand-blocked it, and they took it all apart. They took the doors off, the name at the trunk, everything.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, good job.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, they did a really, really, really sweet job. And like I said, there’s maybe one ding in it, I don’t even know anymore. But Yeah, I was just curious because you guys talk about it a lot, and that’s all good. So you’re looking at $1,300 a star, so you’re probably looking somewhere between upwards of $2,000.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, and, you know, in your car, I don’t want to, you know, take Dietz’s, you know, words, but, you know, I would plan on a couple grand, knowing it’ll probably come under that, Stuart, but I think I’d budget that is what I would do, yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, which is the one that we had to sand, so we had to add a little extra on that one, and we also did some PDR on that one. And if I’m not mistaken, that one was… PDR.
SPEAKER 09 :
Pail and stand removal, yeah. Oh, I have no paintless dent removal on that. You couldn’t do it on this car. Good. You can’t do it on a 69 AMX. There’s no spoon in the world that will take a dent out of that metal. It’s the heavy gauge metal.
SPEAKER 06 :
You would be surprised. Actually, Stuart, you would be surprised. Because keep in mind, it’s not all spoons anymore. They do a lot of work with heat and light and external components they glue on. I mean, all sorts of things now where it’s not even spoons anymore. It’s way different than it used to be.
SPEAKER 12 :
But I assume your car is really clean, right? I mean, it’s not dense.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, yeah, it’s clean.
SPEAKER 12 :
It’s very clean. So we don’t have to do anything.
SPEAKER 09 :
And I had it clear brought by a guy named Tom Farmer years ago. And he was actually one of the pioneers in clear bra in South Denver when I was a lot younger than I am today. Sure, sure. And Tom’s still around, and he’s a good guy. But, yeah, he did all my Harleys, and he did my cars and everything like that. Good deal. Yeah, even where the fingers go in, you know, for the door handles. We would clear bra inside there so you wouldn’t get any fingernail scratches.
SPEAKER 06 :
Nice. Yeah, the cups.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, that’s nice. We did the headlamps. My headlamps on my Hyundai, which is an 09 Hyundai, they’re still almost as fresh as when they came from the factory.
SPEAKER 07 :
Very nice.
SPEAKER 09 :
They’re not clouded at all.
SPEAKER 06 :
Very nice.
SPEAKER 09 :
Anyway, I was just curious.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, that’s good. And they can ceramic coat over the clear bra as well, Stuart, so all that’s good also. All right, thank you. All right, man, appreciate you very much. We’ll take a break. We’ll come right back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560.

SPEAKER 06 :
All right, we are back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560. Louie, go ahead, sir. What’s up? How are you all this morning?
SPEAKER 11 :
We are great, Louie. How are you? I’m good, thank you. The sunshine and birds are singing and Carrie’s cracking the whip, so I’ve got to get busy.
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes. Get after it. So, John, I got to say all the help that you’ve given me over the years with referrals to Kurt Rogers and David Gonzalez, et cetera, et cetera, which I can’t thank you enough. Now it’s my turn to say I told you so. OK, because because when we were doing your black striping, your black Durango. And I kept telling you to get it ceramic coated, and now listen to you.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, you’re right. And this all came from you. In fact, the whole relationship that I’ve got with Dietz and Roy and ProTech was from you, Louie. And I want to add one more thing, too. For those of you that use Louie, do pinstriping, I will also say this. Louie, ceramic coating over the pinstriping, man alive. It’ll make the pinstriping last forever.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, boy. Yes, it does. Yes, it does.
SPEAKER 06 :
I mean, I almost want to say that’s a have-to, Louie.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes, I agree completely, especially like your black Durango, the red on top of the black. It doesn’t last worth a darn without ceramic coating.
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 11 :
The red fades so bad.
SPEAKER 06 :
I mean, you can even, for those of you listening, you can feel the difference even striped, no ceramic coating, striped with ceramic coating. It’s a totally different feel, Louie, as you know.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes, yes, it very much is. And so now my question to you, Roy, is we took Carrie’s GTO up to see some friends in Nebraska. Sitting in the driveway, their sprinkler system came on. Got the hood and roof of the car wet and hard water, non-potable water, and it left white water spots. Got them pretty well cleaned off. When the car is wet, you can still see it. Roli used to suggest for water spots on hard water, distilled water with vinegar diluted. Yeah. To take the water spots off. Is that going to remove ceramic coating?
SPEAKER 12 :
It’s harsh. It’s hard to say. I mean, sometimes it works, Louis. But what I’m going to say is just bring the car to our shop. And then we’re going to have to.
SPEAKER 06 :
And they might use WD-40 on it, by the way.
SPEAKER 1 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 14 :
Okay, you got me as a believer now.
SPEAKER 06 :
It does work.
SPEAKER 14 :
I’ve been using it for everything.
SPEAKER 06 :
It does work, Louie. I mean, I’m not joking. Believe it or not, it might actually take that off.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m not joking. Don’t do that, Louie.
SPEAKER 11 :
Did you say WD-40?
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah. WD-40.
SPEAKER 11 :
There is not a can of WD-40 within a mile of my shop.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I know because of what you do.
SPEAKER 11 :
It will fish by my paint. I know. So darn fast. I know.
SPEAKER 12 :
It’s all that oil in it. But you know what, Louis? Bring it to our shop, and then we’ll try it. We’ll try it. Give it a whirl.
SPEAKER 07 :
I got some.
SPEAKER 12 :
I got some. No, but I think it’ll be easier to remove the water spots because it’s been ceramic coated already.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
Great idea. So it’s going to make it easier. We have to do a little bit of polishing, too, and then reapply the ceramic coating.
SPEAKER 11 :
So rather than me trying to ruin her card. Please do that. Yeah. Well, very good. I’ll let you guys get back at it. You’re the man.
SPEAKER 06 :
Thanks, Louie. Have a great day. All right, man. Appreciate you. That’s my pinstriper. Any of you guys that need custom pinstriping, ask me. I’ll give you Louie’s name. He’s the guy. Lucy, you’re next.
SPEAKER 21 :
Hi, John.
SPEAKER 06 :
Hey, Lucy. How are you?
SPEAKER 21 :
Doing well, and I wanted to give a shout-out to ProTech because a little over a year ago, I bought that Outback, and I immediately took it to their shop. I had the front windows tinted and the clear bra and the ceramic coating. And as you know, I sold that vehicle, but I saw the owner recently, and he doesn’t even wash his car.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, my word.
SPEAKER 21 :
Literally. It’s beautiful all the time, and when I meet him, I can spot that car in the lot.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 21 :
First off.
SPEAKER 06 :
Good testament. Yeah.
SPEAKER 21 :
It just looks different.
SPEAKER 06 :
Amazing.
SPEAKER 21 :
I don’t know, right?
SPEAKER 06 :
Now, I don’t recommend you don’t wash your car, but that’s a good testimony. Almost. And, Lucy, I know you well enough to know that’s not you. You wash your cars.
SPEAKER 21 :
Absolutely. And I’m lucky that Lexus did a good paint job when they manufactured my 2002 RX300. It looks amazing.
SPEAKER 06 :
Nice.
SPEAKER 21 :
So I lucked out.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s nice.
SPEAKER 21 :
But now that I know about ceramic coating, I’m sold.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. Have you decided on what car to buy yet?
SPEAKER 21 :
No, still looking. But I’m having so much fun educating myself.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s good.
SPEAKER 21 :
And still listening to you and Richard’s, you know, reviews. Sure.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, and we’re always here to help, Lucy. You know, you can get a hold of me anytime. So if there’s ever a question, you just let me know. I’d be happy to help you.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah. And Justin and Josh have been wonderful to me. So they let me drive a Lexus 450 hybrid. Nice. And that was great fun. So, no, still looking.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. All right. Well, you keep looking and let me know what you need, Lucy.
SPEAKER 21 :
Will do.
SPEAKER 06 :
Thank you, John. Thank you very much. Great. There you go. Another testimonial coming in on how well ceramic coating works. That’s a car she doesn’t even own, but the next owner who doesn’t wash it shows you how clean it stays. Guys, it works. I almost make it sound too good to be true. It’s not. And I’m not exaggerating. It’s not. The stuff really does work when it’s done properly. And I’ll say this straight up. No, you can’t do it yourself. um even me i’m very you guys know i mean i can i can color correct a car i can do all the paint correction all the different things and so on i’ve never had any experience or been trained on how to do the ceramic coating i wouldn’t attempt to even do it myself because the reality is if you screw something up it’s it’s not worth doing it’s it’s just not worth going through all of that trying to get what you put on cost you more money yeah exactly it cost you more money trying to redo what you just screwed up than what it would be worth in the first place. So, yeah, have it done professionally. Only way to go. All right, another full hour coming your way. Roy, Dietze, both from ProTech AutoShield. Real quick, Dietze, give them your phone number.
