And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes. With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 11 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did.
SPEAKER 09 :
Get a job, sir. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 23 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 25 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 08 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush, presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 18 :
All right, we are back. Hour number two, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Andy, myself, Richard, are you there? Not bad, I am. All right, I’ll let you guys take it away. We’ll do NFL picks, come back, and start into school movies. So take it away, guys.
SPEAKER 20 :
All right, Richard, we’re going to start off with the Jaguars are visiting the Bengals. Now you got two really good quarterbacks here, but two rather disappointing teams. You got Trevor Lawrence with Brian Thomas, Travis Hunter. There’s a star, you know, going against Joe Burrow and all his weapons. What do you think? The Bengals are favored by three and a half.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, Andy, which, by the way, best time of the year right here. I know we missed our first week last week, but just love this time where we can have our picks and conversations.
SPEAKER 20 :
Really quick here, Richard. It’s okay to miss week one because it’s such a crapshoot. You don’t start getting a feel for the teams until after week one.
SPEAKER 16 :
I was going to say, after week one, after week… I feel like three nowadays because, you know, with preseason… Yeah, you’re right. I feel like that used to be the case, right? You know, four preseason games, give a little bit more time, but I’m with you. So, well, on this game, Andy, if Joe Burrow can not be decapitated because his offensive line is a massive black hole of nothingness, then I think the Bengals can win handily. But considering that he has mannequins blocking for him, then I’m going to say this game is going to be closer. And, man… Andy, I think Burrow may go down as a player of what if. And what I mean by that is what if he was on a different team with everything, not Mike Brown. Joe Burrow with the Broncos, with unlimited ownership at this point in time, willing to spend, willing to do whatever it takes. it would just be phenomenal. I mean, as much as I hate to say, a place like KC, but he’s just not valued, and I don’t want to say he’s not valued, but he’s undervalued, Andy, because they’re taking him for granted.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, and we’ll spend just a moment on this. We’ll reel through a bunch of these real quick, but I got to go with what you’re saying here. If Joe Burrow was in Denver with that defense and that overall team, you guys would win a Super Bowl. That’s what I think. And by the Andy, you’d be a dynasty. Yeah, you’d be a dynasty. Now, you may do it with Bo Nix. Nothing against him. He’s terrific, too. But Joe Burrow is fantastic. You know who he reminds me of? His Manning’s dad, Archie Manning, who slaved away down there on the Saints all those years and had a terrible team around him. He was great. What a waste. I hope that doesn’t happen with Joe Burrow. But, okay, make that tough pick, Jaguars-Bengals.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, with that said, Andy, I actually think it’ll be a closer game. It’s always tough to play in Cleveland. I think the Bengals are going to figure it out this year. I have zero faith in the Jaguars, although maybe with their newfound… Coach and Travis Hunter and Lawrence. Again, another conversation. I’m going to go with the Bengals here, Andy, although I think this is close and it’s almost a pick-em to me.
SPEAKER 20 :
I agree. I’ll take the Bengals. Same difference. I think it’s close. Okay, let’s reel through some. Giants. Oh, my goodness. They’re on the road at the Cowboys. Russell Wilson against Dak Prescott. Cowboys favored by five and a half.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, Andy, the Giants are sort of who we thought they were going to be, and no offense to Russell Wilson, but that’s just not very good. And honestly, the sooner they get to Jackson Dart, Andy, the better they will be, I think. I feel like they’re going to, again, you need to give them playing time, get them involved in the system, and no offense to Russ, but I just don’t think he has it anymore. So I’m going to go with the Cowboys, Andy, who looked surprisingly competitive last week against the Eagles. They’ve also had 10 days to prepare, so I think that helps them, too.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, I thought they looked good, but I think they’ll win this one, too. Next game, this is a tough one, actually. The Bears are on the road to the Lions. Now, I know the Lions are favored by six and a half, but the Bears have been stockpiling talent. Which team goes 0-2?
SPEAKER 16 :
Oh, man. You know, Andy, well, I think it’s going to be the Bears just because I think the Lions are at home and they’re going to get back on track. However… I’m not confident in that. The Lions look like a drastically different team without their offensive coordinator. And I think we kind of talked about it a little bit on Monday. I just don’t have much faith. to be honest with you, Andy, in the Lions. And it’s unfortunate because I actually think they were – I would love to see a Lions-Bills Super Bowl. You know what I mean? Like that would be awesome. I just don’t know if the Lions can do that with their offense. Now, again, it is week two, and I think they’ll beat the Bears because I think the Bears are a young team. But no, they may show some fights. I’ll go to the Lions at home.
SPEAKER 20 :
You know what? I’m going to take the Lions at home. All the same reasons you just gave. Although, if this were week eight or nine, I might take the Bears once their coach has settled in. But right now, I’ll take the Lions as well. Okay, next game. This one’s easy. The Rams are favored by five and a half on the road at the Tennessee Titans. The only question is, is that enough points?
SPEAKER 16 :
You know, Andy, after watching the Titans in person last week, they are a surprisingly competitive team. Cam Ward, they did well. Honestly, if his receivers caught the ball, that game could have turned out quite a bit different. Yeah, he has no targets. Well, he’s got no targets, Andy. They need to get him some more help. But, Andy, the Rams, to me, are sort of – honestly, with Stafford, I thought he may die this past year because of his back injury.
SPEAKER 22 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 16 :
But he seems to have recovered nicely. And they’re sort of a sneaky Super Bowl pick. They are. Well, Sean McPhase is thinking good coach, and that defense is really, really good. And you’ve got Devontae Adams there now and Puka Nakua still. Yeah, I like the Rams here, Andy, and they may be a sneaky pick to go a lot further than people think.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, I like the Rams by a million. So let’s move to the next game. The Patriots are on the road to the Dolphins. These two teams fell apart last week. Drake May against Tua. Dolphins favored by one and a half at home.
SPEAKER 16 :
Andy, as much as I like Mike McDaniel, he’s probably in line for your first firing of the year. Yeah. and the Dolphins, man, how they have fallen from grace. I mean, from two years ago with the Broncos where you’re putting almost the most points up in any game in NFL history to being just walloped by Danny Dimes, Andy, which is crazy. I just don’t know about them. Don’t know about Tua. Wouldn’t have paid him that money. I’m actually going to take the Patriots here, Andy, just because they showed me a little bit last week, so I like where they’re going.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, I’m going to take the Patriots, but I don’t like this game at all. It could go either way. I’ll stay away from it. Yeah, 49ers favored by 3.5 at the Saints. Now, who’s going to be under center for San Fran? Is it going to be Mac Jones? And if that’s it, will it be Mac Jones against Spencer Rattler, and who would watch it?
SPEAKER 16 :
It will be, and this is actually, Andy, who a lot of people thought the 49ers were going to take several years ago when they took Trey Lance. And obviously he didn’t work out, but they thought he was the most picture-perfect quarterback for Kyle Shanahan, if you recall right. And so this is fascinating to me. Brock Purdy is going to be out for a few weeks. I just think, Andy, that – well, honestly, I don’t care who – I think the 49ers will win just because I think that they’re a better overall talented team. What’s the line on this, Andy? Do you know? Do you have it in front of you?
SPEAKER 20 :
The Niners are favored by three and a half on the road. Yeah, and I probably like that.
SPEAKER 16 :
I mean, who knows about Matt Jones? But I think Matt is a perfect backup quarterback, Andy, right? Come in, give you a few good starts, and go from there. So I’ll take the Niners.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, I’ll take the Niners. If their starter was there, I’d take them by double digits. So I’ll take the Niners. Okay, the Bills are favored by 6.5 at the Jets. Is there any way for the Jets to slow down Josh Allen?
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, the Jets did look better than I think a lot of people anticipated, Andy. So I’ll give them that. Well, they have a fast defense.
SPEAKER 20 :
I’ll give them that.
SPEAKER 16 :
They do. They have a fast defense. I actually like Aaron Glenn as a coach. Justin Fields, I think, fits well with their style. I mean, he’s not the future by any stretch of the imagination. But the Bills, Andy, again, they look like, after coming back last week against the Ravens, they look like they’re on sort of a wrecking ball path, it seems. I’m going to go with the Bills here. I think it actually may be a little bit more competitive than people think, Andy, because I think that the Jets, being a divisional game, sort of will know what they’re doing, but I think ultimately the Bills will win.
SPEAKER 20 :
I think it’s going to be a better game, too, because I don’t like the Bills’ defense. I really don’t, but I’ll take the Bills. Next game, Seahawks are at the Steelers. Can Aaron Rodgers keep it going in a good matchup?
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, Andy, I don’t like the Seahawks, and mainly because Sam Darnold. I think Sam Darnold was a product of Kevin O’Connell, and you saw what Kevin O’Connell, who is from the McVay system, who is from the Shanahan system, can do here. And I think there’s just something special about those offensive minds, Andy.
SPEAKER 20 :
And they had a lot of talent up there when you’re throwing to Justin Jefferson and company.
SPEAKER 16 :
I’m with you. And I think with Sam Darnold, I mean, you don’t have D.K. Metcalf anymore. You’re best receiver, what, second-year player, Jackson, Smith, and Jigba. And I just think – or maybe third-year player. But, yeah, I don’t see that, Andy. I like –
SPEAKER 20 :
Sorry, who’s the home team again right here? It’s the Steelers. They’re favored by three and a half.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, I like old A.A. Ron. Sorry. I like A.A. Ron here. I don’t think he’s all the way back, but I like them in this matchup especially, even though I like the Seahawks defense. I just think that… The Steelers and Rodgers are a better team, to be honest with you.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, I’ll take the Steelers too, although I don’t like their defense at all. But hey, they got DK Metcalf, so this is going to be a lot of fun for him. Okay, the Browns are at the Ravens. Ravens favored by 11.5. Can we just call this one? I mean, can the Browns shock the Ravens with Joe Flacco returning to Baltimore?
SPEAKER 16 :
Andy, the answer is yes, they can. Will they? The answer is no, because the Ravens are also going to be looking for some revenge. I may even take that spread, Andy, because the Ravens are so mad about how that game happened last week.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 16 :
They’re just going to they got to prove a point. And unfortunately, the lowly Browns are the ones who are going to get it. Andy, real quick, I’ll say this. The Browns. should be one of these teams that is playing Shador. Because no offense, Joe Flacco is not going to be there next year or in two years or three years. Heck, even play Dylan Gabriel. Figure out what you have versus, yeah, I know you’re trying to be competitive and I know you’re trying to win. But man, play the young kids. Way more than you’re going to play the old guy. Just saying.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, when they’re 1-4, 1-5, they’ll have Shador in. I agree. Okay, Ravens win easily. Broncos favored by 1.5 at the Colts. Do Daniel Jones and the Colts have enough talent to make this a game, or does Bo Nix just blow them out?
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, Andy, I still think Bo’s going to struggle because I think it’s going to be a similar season or similar early season to what C.J. Stroud went through last year. Although I do think Sean Payton will get them back on track. However, I think that Broncos defense is just vastly better than the Dolphins defense. Yep. And so I think who you saw with Dan, you know, what they saw last week is going to be a lot different. Well, I think this game’s closer. It’s maybe a little bit more of a defensive battle, Andy. than people think. So I’ll go with the Broncos in the close one. I don’t love it. I could see the Colts pulling this out because I think Shane Steichen and they’re actually a well-coached team. But I just don’t know if they have enough to get over the Broncos’ defense.
SPEAKER 20 :
I would have the point spread around five, honestly. I think the Broncos really should win this game. If Colts win, it’s a big upset, but I will take the Broncos as well. Okay, ugly ball. We got the Panthers are on the road at the Cardinals. Cardinals favored by six and a half. Interesting, you got two short first overall quarterback picks who are going to face off in Kyler Murray and Bryce Young.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, Andy. Well, I like Bryce more than I like Kyler. I think Bryce is a better thrower of the football than Kyler is. It doesn’t get talked about a lot, Andy, but Kyler, ever since he got his contract, I know he’s been hurt, but he’s been very underperforming.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, but he’s got a better team. He’s got a better team, though.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, he does, and that’s why everyone’s talking about Bryce Young. I just think you have to throw last week out, Andy, just because… The Bryce Young we saw at the end of last season I think is more indicative of who he is. And when you have a two-hour rain delay on the road, that’s hard for anyone. Especially when you don’t play in the preseason, all the different things happen. So I’m going to go with the Panthers here, Andy. The only thing other than I just like Bryce Young, I could see you taking the Cardinals. Hopefully you do. I’ll take the Panthers.
SPEAKER 20 :
I’m going to take the Cardinals. I just think they have a better team. Honestly, I don’t like either team. So, okay, here’s, I think, the game of the week. The Eagles are favored by one and a half points. They’re coming in to play the Chiefs. Is this enough points? I mean, will Mahomes find any weapons? Aren’t they all going down? Isn’t it possible the Eagles come in and just body slam them?
SPEAKER 16 :
You know, Andy, I feel like this could be like the Super Bowl, although it is at Arrowhead and Mahomes is a home underdog. It doesn’t usually go well for the other team. It doesn’t happen very often. And I just feel like I’m not saying that I think that the Chiefs are a better team than the Eagles because I think overall the Eagles are a better team. But you’ve almost got the same amount of rest because the Chiefs played on Friday, Eagles played on Thursday. So similar rest. Lots of similar things going on. I feel like – I just feel like the Chiefs. There’s nothing else other than if I pick them and I’m wrong, it’s a good thing for me because they lose. And if I pick them and I’m right, then I’m also right, which is also a good thing. Well, so you’re hedging your bets. I am hedging my bet. So I’m going to go with the Chiefs at home here, Andy. I think that the Eagles are a really talented, better team, but just the different factors that are at play here.
SPEAKER 20 :
I agree. Actually, all three of these last three games are good games. The Falcons are on the road of the Vikings. Now, the Vikings are favored by three and a half, but both quarterbacks played well in week one, Michael Penix and J.J. McCarthy. Which team has the talent overall? Yeah, Andy, I…
SPEAKER 16 :
I still have, well, both are young quarterbacks, still haven’t seen enough from either of them. I’m going to go with what I think is the better coach for him, which we just talked about a little bit ago, which is going to be Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings. I just think that he’s, I’m not saying Kevin McCarthy or JJ McCarthy is a better coach. or a better quarterback than Pennix, although maybe you could argue that. I just think when you have a better overall team, just how it’s come together. So I’m going to go with the Vikings here, Andy, and because it’s also at home. So I’ll give that to them.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, I’m going to take the Vikings. They could win comfortably. I’m just not sure. Next game, good game. Buccaneers are on the road at the Texans. Texans are favored by two and a half at home. You’ve got Baker Mayfield against C.J. Stroud. Richard, the Texans, they have so much talent, but when are they going to start playing like it?
SPEAKER 16 :
You know, everybody loves their coach.
SPEAKER 20 :
I love their coach. We all love their coach. But at some point, you know, at some point, they’ve got to start playing like this talent.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, they do. I mean, the only benefit they have, Andy, is they play in the AFC South where you don’t have a lot of good teams, right? I mean, we just talked about the Colts. Yeah, Andy, I feel like, oh, man, I – When you trade away your all-pro left tackle, for whatever reason, I just have a hard time. I wish that they were better. I’m going to go with Tampa Bay here, Andy. I like Baker. That dude’s a gamer, especially on Monday night. He seems to come through. He’s just kind of a very solid quarterback, and I think Stroud’s going to continue to struggle. Is he the same guy that we saw in his rookie year? I think it remains to be seen. But I’m with you. I’ll go Tampa Bay here on the road.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, both of us are picking the upset because I am just not a believer in the Texans coach right now. He’s got to turn it around. Last game, good game. Chargers, they’re favored by three and a half on the road at the Raiders. Herbert, he faces Geno Smith. Now, this is interesting. In week one, Ashton Gentry faced eight and nine-man boxes the entire time. And as a result, Geno was able to go wild. Is that going to happen again? Are people that afraid of Ashton Gentry?
SPEAKER 16 :
I think the Chargers’ defense is better, Andy, especially with Derwin James. I think they can handle. And to me, the Raiders don’t have a lot of offensive weapons. And Geno is your prototypical case of a quarterback who he’ll take whatever you give him, Andy. I also think that this is Herbert’s year to to kind of catch fire. I mean, he beat the Chiefs. Granted, it wasn’t in Arrowhead, and it was technically a home game for the Chargers. But to me, I just think the Chargers are a better team. They may even be a sexy Super Bowl pick, just depending on what your feelings are on the Bills and the Ravens and even the Chiefs. So I’m going to go with the Chargers. I know they’re on the road, Andy. You’re going into Vegas, whatever it might be, a home opener. I just like them. I don’t think the Raiders can sustain, although, Andy, It’s just going to be a competitive game. Pete Carroll is good at that. He’s a really good coach. He’s good at getting his teams prepared and ready. And so, yeah, I think that this will be a really close game, but ultimately I think the Chargers will pull it out. Honestly, they’ll probably end up winning by about six.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, I think this is a fun one to watch, and I’m going to take the Chargers as well, and I’ll close with this. I think the Chargers, Broncos, Ravens, Bills, all of those kinds of teams, it’s just going to be a matter of who’s the healthiest at the end of the year.
SPEAKER 18 :
I would agree. Okay. All right. With that, let’s do this. Paul Lewenberger is up next. He is my insurance agent. Would love to help you with all of your insurance needs as well. Call Paul today, 303-662-0789.

SPEAKER 18 :
All right, criminal, civil, you name it, Kevin Flesch is there for you. 303-806-8886.
SPEAKER 29 :
Here’s why you need personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch on your side. He understands the way the jury thinks. In the context of a personal injury case, you’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. The idea is that you’re going to try to recover so that you can get back to where you were just prior to that incident occurring. What that really means from a jurist’s perspective is that you’re going to be asking them to award you money. So when we talk about fairness, we’re talking about six people that you don’t know. Those six people view the evidence and make a unanimous decision that will decide what the fair value is. When you’re the one who’s hurt, you have a good idea of what you think it’s worth. The question is, can you persuade those other individuals whom you don’t know and were witnesses to believe that’s what the case is worth? Kevin Flesch understands the way the jury thinks. SPEAKER 18 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Time for movies. Andy, take it away.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay, it’s back to school movies, so I’m going to start with Back to School. And this isn’t the funniest clip, but I want to play it because it’s a bit long, but it’s Rodney Dangerfield talking business in business class. Here we go.
SPEAKER 12 :
The architect’s fees and the costs of land servicing. Oh, you left out a bunch of stuff. Oh, really?
SPEAKER 11 :
Like what, for instance? Well, first of all, you’re going to have to grease the local politicians for the sudden zoning problems that always come up. Then there’s the kickbacks to the carpenters. And if you plan on using any cement in this building, I’m sure the team should like to have a little chat with you, and that’ll cost you. Oh, and don’t forget a little something for the building inspectors. Then there’s the long-term costs, such as waste disposal. I don’t know if you are familiar with who runs that business, but I assure you it’s not the Boy Scouts.
SPEAKER 12 :
That’ll be quite enough, Mr. Mellon. Maybe bribes and kickbacks and mafia payoffs are how you do business. But they are not part of the legitimate business world. And they’re certainly not part of anything I’m teaching in this class. Do I make myself clear? Sorry, just trying to help, that’s all. Now, notwithstanding Mr. Mellon’s input, the next question for us is where to build our factory. How about Fantasyland?
SPEAKER 20 :
No, he’s not wrong. No, he’s not wrong. It’s unfortunate, but… He’s right. Yeah. A lot of these big businessmen, they know they’ve got to grease some palms. Yep, absolutely. And this is why I think people get a little too strung out about, well, this guy, he gave to that politician, and I disagree with that politician. Don’t you understand? They give money all over the place.
SPEAKER 18 :
Because that’s what it takes to get things done.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yep, there you go. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 16 :
By the way, I guess underrated guy, Rodney Dangerfield.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yes. Funny. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 16 :
So funny. Super funny. All right, Dad, I know this is on your list, but this is when you sent me this. This is the first thing that came to mind for me, which is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
SPEAKER 18 :
Number one on my list.
SPEAKER 16 :
Number one on your list? I know it was kind of backwards because it was close to the end of school, but who also goes to school in June? True.
SPEAKER 20 :
Let me do a quick clip. Go ahead. Okay.
SPEAKER 13 :
The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California. Less than a hundred were made. My father spent three years restoring this car. It is his love. It is his passion. It is his fault he didn’t lock the garage.
SPEAKER 18 :
It is his fault he didn’t lock the garage.
SPEAKER 20 :
I just love that line.
SPEAKER 18 :
Hilarious.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, it’s so good. Ferris Bueller, very, very good, Richard. You may win. I think you won.
SPEAKER 18 :
John, you’re up. Only because it was memorable when I was coming out of high school and it was just a movie that was still one of the greatest all-time high school movies, Fast Time at Ridgemont High. Oh, what a classic.
SPEAKER 20 :
When he gets pizza delivered to him in class.
SPEAKER 18 :
Mr. Hand.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay, we’ve heard this one before, but you’ve got to mention Animal House. Oh, yeah. I mean, it’s just not going to be right if we don’t have Bluto talk to us for just a moment. Here we go.
SPEAKER 09 :
Over? Did you say over? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
SPEAKER 18 :
German? I get it, he’s rolling.
SPEAKER 09 :
It ain’t over now! Because when the going gets tough… They all look dead. The toughs get going! Who’s with me? Let’s go! Come on!
SPEAKER 18 :
He runs out the door. Such a nut. John Belushi was so funny. Yes, he was. Oh, my goodness. Another one that went too soon.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, much too soon. All right, Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 16 :
All right, Andy, I’m going to go with one. It was a TV show, but they made a movie, so it falls within your realm of acceptability, which I know is hard to get, which is recessed.
SPEAKER 18 :
Recess?
SPEAKER 16 :
Yes. It came out like 1997.
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, wait a minute.
SPEAKER 16 :
I know that one.
SPEAKER 18 :
I don’t know that one.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah. It was a group of friends, and TJ is the leader. Classic. It was a good little show.
SPEAKER 20 :
Classic cartoonistry. Totally different. Very unique. Okay, John, you’re up.
SPEAKER 18 :
How about – I’m trying to pick something we don’t talk about all the time because some of these we do so much that we sort of wear them out. How about – because we don’t talk about this one a lot, but it was school, Legally Blonde.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, yeah. Legally Blonde. Yeah, here we go.
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, good.
SPEAKER 07 :
I got a PhD from Berkeley.
SPEAKER 04 :
MBA from Wharton. I’ve been deworming orphans in Somalia.
SPEAKER 07 :
Two weeks ago, I saw Cameron Diaz at Fred Siegel, and I talked her out of buying this truly heinous Angora sweater.
SPEAKER 19 :
Malibu Barbie lives.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’ve come to join your study group. Our group is full. Oh, is this like an RSVP thing? No, it’s like a smart people thing. I give her two more weeks. What is this? We’re betting to see how much longer you’re gonna last.
SPEAKER 03 :
You’re not smart enough, sweetie.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’ll show you how valuable our woods can be.
SPEAKER 03 :
MGM Pictures presents… Do you have a resume? It’s pink.
SPEAKER 07 :
And it’s scented. I think it gives it a little something extra.
SPEAKER 03 :
A comedy about knowing who you are.
SPEAKER 20 :
I just thought that was… And it’s scented. I think that gives it something a little extra. That’s good. Yeah. Okay. Let’s go to one that people don’t think about very much at all. The Principle with James Belushi. Have you seen it?
SPEAKER 18 :
It’s been a long time.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah. It’s actually very good. Here we go.
SPEAKER 27 :
from all over the district. They even come with their own customs and traditions. Burglary. Weapons. Druids. All them nice things.
SPEAKER 26 :
I want you guys to be comfortable here.
SPEAKER 09 :
I want you to think of this school as a home away from prison. Man, do you know where you are? Haven’t you heard what they say about this school?
SPEAKER 27 :
His opposition. Everybody.
SPEAKER 20 :
No more gang intimidation, arson, robbery, rape, or whatever the hell you’ve been majoring in here. No more! It’s actually a good movie. It’s a good movie. I enjoyed watching the principal.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah, I agree. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it, but yeah.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay, Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 16 :
All right, Andy, maybe one that you may not think of, and it was the anniversary, I think this month or this week or something, I don’t know, it’s the 30th anniversary of the original one, which is Toy Story, but Toy Story 3, because that’s when they go to daycare. Nicely done. I did not think of that. That’s good. That’s out of the box. And it is my youngest favorite movie right now. I wouldn’t have thought that. We watched it like 8,000 times.
SPEAKER 20 :
All right. Although I’ve got to be honest, when they’re going down and burning, getting ready to burn, I thought that was pretty heavy for kids.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, it was, although, Andy, they actually did it well. It’s not like the movies nowadays where they show it and the kids are scarred. I think the kids kind of get nervous, but then they pull them out of it pretty quickly, right, with the claw. They do. I think they do that part well.
SPEAKER 20 :
I mean, do you, as a parent, look at your kids and say, you better be good? I mean, during that scene.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah. I should, Andy. Yes, I should. But no, they figured that part out enough.
SPEAKER 18 :
All right, mine, just because it’s such a great movie and series, and they did a great job of combining the two Friday Night Lights.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 18 :
And it’s football season as well.
SPEAKER 20 :
And you got the double.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 20 :
Way to go, man.
SPEAKER 18 :
Way to go. All right, Joe is up next. Joe, go ahead. How about Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Yes.
SPEAKER 20 :
High school movie. Buffy. I love the death scene by Pee Wee Herman. It’s the best part of the movie. And does Carrie count as a high school movie?
SPEAKER 18 :
Absolutely. I think it does. It’s on my list, so I think so, yes.
SPEAKER 20 :
That’s a school movie. Okay, school movie. In fact, I think that kind of visual would be great for every prom. With the blood dripping. It was so funny.
SPEAKER 18 :
All right, guys. All right, Joe. No, appreciate it very much. Thank you. Go ahead, Andy. You’re up.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay, I know we don’t want to just keep doing ones we’ve done before, but you know, some I have to. And not another teen movie. Oh, that’s so funny. The cheerleaders, when the rival cheerleaders come over and say, you better not be doing, from the black school, saying you better not be doing our act. Here we go.
SPEAKER 07 :
Don’t think you foolin’ us because we saw you at our practice and I know you stole our routine. Kay, I don’t know what you’re talking about because we’ve always done our own cheers. Right, girls? That’s right. Well, then you better bring it. Oh, it’s already been brought in.
SPEAKER 1 :
Nice comeback, Priscilla.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah! We are the North Compton Wildcats. We’re black. We know it. We show our big booties and show it. We ain’t white. We ain’t white. We dead.
SPEAKER 18 :
But they are. Yeah, they’re all white. It’s hilarious. That is one of the most funniest teen movies there is out there, period.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh.
SPEAKER 18 :
Because it makes fun of every other teen movie.
SPEAKER 20 :
It is really raunchy, but it is hilarious.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yes, it is.
SPEAKER 20 :
Laughed myself sick. Richard, you’re up. Richard probably watches that with his kids. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 16 :
You know, I think we skipped that one, Andy. But speaking of what that’s making fun of, I’ve got to go to the main movie, especially in that part that it’s making fun of, which is Bring It On.
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I agree.
SPEAKER 16 :
You know, cheerleading, again, you know, not sure many cheerleading movies are great, but… No, that’s a good one.
SPEAKER 20 :
No, that is a good cheerleading movie, and that’s why they made fun of it. It was just such a funny scene. Go ahead, John.
SPEAKER 18 :
Let’s do Social Network. Social Network.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 18 :
It’s all about school.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 18 :
And the betrayal of. Well done. Original investors and so on. That was actually a really good movie. I don’t know how true that actually is of everything that happened, but I’m sure there’s some embellishment there of some kind.
SPEAKER 20 :
Well, they always take some liberties.
SPEAKER 18 :
Probably not too far off, I’m guessing, when it’s all said and done.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay, well.
SPEAKER 18 :
Let’s take Alex next. Let’s take Alex. Alex, go ahead. Hey, John. How about Heathers and Jawbreaker?
SPEAKER 20 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 20 :
Both good.
SPEAKER 18 :
I don’t know. I think those are on my list, actually.
SPEAKER 20 :
Christian Slater and Winona Ryder. They were so good.
SPEAKER 17 :
So good. Yeah, that was a weird twist near the end of the film, because it was about the three girls, and then they gradually, the storyline somewhat drifted, and now it’s Christian Slater and him in his final moment.
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, I thought it was great. Okay, just as a side note, since we’re talking Christian Slater. He should have played more villains.
SPEAKER 20 :
Go ahead.
SPEAKER 18 :
Did he play Christine? Was he in Christine? Was that Christian Slater? The car? Mmm.
SPEAKER 20 :
I can’t remember.
SPEAKER 18 :
The evil car? Because that was all high school stuff as well.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, but I can’t remember.
SPEAKER 18 :
I can’t remember if that was Christian Slater or not, Alex.
SPEAKER 17 :
I don’t know. I don’t remember. I remember seeing it years back, but I don’t know if that was a very young Christian Slater. I can’t. I’ll look it up.
SPEAKER 20 :
John, it’s a car movie. You’re supposed to know.
SPEAKER 18 :
I know, but I haven’t watched it for so long.
SPEAKER 20 :
Even if you’ve never seen it, you should just know.
SPEAKER 18 :
Honestly, I haven’t seen it in forever. I mean, it’s been a really long time. So I’ve got to look up who actually played in that. And I thought it was a young Christian Slater, but it takes me a minute here to look this stuff up. Let’s see here. Who was the prime? Okay. No, it was not. Yeah.
SPEAKER 17 :
It was not. It was somebody else.
SPEAKER 18 :
It was somebody else. But good movie.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 18 :
I love the movie. No, good one, Alex. Good job, Alex. Appreciate it very much. Thank you very much. All right, Andy, you’re up.
SPEAKER 20 :
All right, let’s go to Ben Stein in Expelled, No Intelligence Allowed. Remember that one? Mm-hmm. On creation, evolution. Here we go.
SPEAKER 06 :
…through history in an unguided and undesigned way, the theory of evolution.
SPEAKER 20 :
Excuse me?
SPEAKER 06 :
Yes, Ben.
SPEAKER 20 :
How did life begin in the first place?
SPEAKER 06 :
Mr. Stein, you have the same question every time. Well, you never answer it, sir. It developed… We are… You know, we’ve been through this so many times, you have me so… Could there have been an intelligent designer?
SPEAKER 20 :
Then you see him outside the principal’s office. So what are you here for?
SPEAKER 19 :
I made a movie. Join Ben Stein in this year’s most controversial documentary film. If they value their careers, they should keep quiet about their intelligent design views.
SPEAKER 20 :
It was pretty interesting. Very fascinating. And what he was doing was just beating up on the fact that the educational establishment just silences dissent. And it was really good. Okay, Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 16 :
All right, Andy, I’m going to go with, let me see here. Okay, well, that is probably on your list, but you’re not going to say it because you just don’t like it, which is fine. Harry Potter, all about back to school, Andy.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, yeah. That’s on my list. Oh, yeah. Hogwarts, man. The Academy. The Hogwarts Academy. Where Richard and I wish we had gone.
SPEAKER 16 :
No, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Andy.
SPEAKER 20 :
You’re right. I shortened it.
SPEAKER 18 :
I did shorthand. That one, as you guys know, that’s one I have never seen. No nothing.
SPEAKER 16 :
It actually is well done. I mean, again, Dad, I know it’s not your cup of tea for a variety of reasons, but it actually is well done. It’s kind of one that we actually watch kind of on a yearly, I mean, not the kids yet, but that you watch on a yearly basis just because there’s fun things. It’s good stories. They’re not so long, Andy, where you get sucked in, but I feel like they’re really well done.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, yeah. Excellent.
SPEAKER 16 :
And J.K. Rowling is, you know, all about, you know, actually girls being girls sort of a situation. So, you know, it doesn’t hurt to support her.
SPEAKER 20 :
I totally agree. It’s really interesting, though, how the cast and she don’t get along anymore because they’re on the other side. But there you go. John, you’re up.
SPEAKER 18 :
No, you’re fine. I’ve got another double dipper here with football and high school, a blindside.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 18 :
Right? Yeah. Classic. Football and school both.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay. Here we go. How about Miss Norbury from Mean Girls?
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, yes.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, my God. That’s Miss Norbury.
SPEAKER 24 :
I love seeing teachers outside of school. It’s like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs. Oh, hey, guys. What’s up? I didn’t know you worked here. Yeah. Moderately priced soaps are my calling.
SPEAKER 10 :
Shopping?
SPEAKER 24 :
No, no. I’m just here with my boyfriend.
SPEAKER 20 :
Homeless guy.
SPEAKER 24 :
Joking. Sometimes older people make jokes.
SPEAKER 16 :
My Nana takes her wig off when she’s drunk.
SPEAKER 24 :
Your Nana and I have that in common.
SPEAKER 20 :
I just thought Tina Fey was very funny.
SPEAKER 18 :
She is actually. Yeah. I mean, she’s funny period. Don’t like her as a, you know, no, I don’t need a liberal, but she is funny.
SPEAKER 20 :
Very funny, very talented. And, uh, there you go, Richard, you were up.
SPEAKER 16 :
Um, well, that was mean girls. Oh, yes. And there you go. Well, my wife, um, But this one is from her, for her, like, not favorite movie ever, but high school musical, Andy. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER 20 :
A lot of talent in that.
SPEAKER 18 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 20 :
Lots of it. John, you’re up. Easy A. Easy A. Funny movie. Oh, yeah. I’ve played the clip from that too many times, so I didn’t do it. Okay. Here we go. Stand and deliver.
SPEAKER 03 :
And if the only thing you know how to do is add and subtract… You’ll only be prepared to do one thing, pump gas. Hey, ripping off a gas station is better than working in Guacano. Orale. Orale. I’m a tough guy. Tough guys don’t do math. Tough guys deep fry chicken for a living. Orale. You want a wing or a leg, man?
SPEAKER 18 :
You want a wing or a leg? Give me a break. That was a good one. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that one. Stand and Deliver? That’s what it’s called?
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, it’s basically in the Hispanic community, and this teacher is telling them to get with it.
SPEAKER 18 :
Okay. All right.
SPEAKER 20 :
Giving them the Morgan Freeman routine.
SPEAKER 18 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 20 :
Doing it very well. I really liked it. Okay. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 16 :
Back to the animated train, Andy. Monsters University.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yes. My wife loves that one. I’ve never seen that one either. Well, you know Monsters, Inc.?
SPEAKER 18 :
It’s fun. I never saw it either.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, okay. Never mind.
SPEAKER 18 :
Somebody said High School Musical, right? One of you guys did? Yeah, Richard said that. All right. How about… We’ll go back. Old and they did a remake, West Side Story.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, is school in that? I guess so, yeah.
SPEAKER 18 :
They’re gangs. Yeah, they’re all in school. I know it’s a musical. That’s why I threw it in there, Charlie.
SPEAKER 20 :
Well, John, it’s more than a musical. It’s a ballet. So you must really like it.
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, but the original one is like historic.
SPEAKER 20 :
Do you do a lot of stretching before the show?
SPEAKER 18 :
A lot of ballet? I do zero.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, OK. Just checking. All right. Here’s a movie you’ve never that I have reviewed. I gave a very high score for and I guarantee you’d never go to it. Lady Bird. Here we go.
SPEAKER 11 :
Lady Bird, is that your given name? Yeah. Why is it in quotes?
SPEAKER 21 :
I gave it to myself. It’s given to me by me.
SPEAKER 13 :
Lady Bird always says that she lives on the wrong side of the tracks, but I always thought that that was like a metaphor. But there are actual train tracks. What she did was very baller. It was very anarchist.
SPEAKER 09 :
Put the magazine back!
SPEAKER 01 :
She has a big heart, your mom.
SPEAKER 13 :
She’s warm, but she’s also kind of scary.
SPEAKER 21 :
You can’t be scary and warm.
SPEAKER 20 :
I think you can. Your mom is. It stars Saoirse Ronan, and I wanted her to win Best Actress.
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, that’s right.
SPEAKER 20 :
She was up for it. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 16 :
All right, Andy. I’m sure there’s going to be another one in this category, or by this actor, I should say. But this is, again, in honor of football season, Waterboy.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. That counts. Going to school. Bobby Boucher. Bobby Boucher. School is the devil.
SPEAKER 18 :
School is the devil. That’s what I thought, too. Yeah, Colonel Sanders. That’s pretty good.
SPEAKER 20 :
You know, he was wonderful in that, but so was she.
SPEAKER 18 :
Agree.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, Kathy Bates, yep. Oh, she was amazing. Because she plays these serious or crazy characters, and then she does that, and she was just hilarious. John, you’re up.
SPEAKER 18 :
All right, and then we’ll take a break right after this. The Breakfast Club.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 18 :
Got to throw that one in. Get the bull young man, or mess with a bull young man, you get the horns. Yep. All right, Richard, I’ll let you go as well. I know you’ve got stuff to do. We’ll let you leave. Andy and I will come back. We’ll finish things up. Roof Savers of Colorado coming up next. And whatever you need when it comes to your roof, the extending the life of fixing, commercial, residential, you name it. Or no, I’m sorry. I’m doing this wrong. It’s Golden Eagle is next, Charlie. I’m sorry. That was my bad. Golden Eagle Financial is next. Listen up. Al did a great interview of late. Hang tight. We’ll come right back right after that. Find Al at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 05 :
TJ here with KLZ and Al Smith of Golden Eagle Financial. And Al, I have a question for you. I’ve been putting money away for a while in a savings account or maybe a couple of investment accounts, but what am I doing wrong and what can you do better than that?
SPEAKER 25 :
Well, I think a savings account is important because all the financial gurus, including myself, agree you should have three to six months savings that you have ready liquid access to. But retirement planning is a bit more long-term and And it’s a bit more strategic. We want to take a look at the sum of money you’ll need way into the future. And we want to look at how that money can last by providing you income for as long as you live.
SPEAKER 05 :
What kind of planning or strategy do you provide for folks with that that have a big savings but haven’t made that next step?
SPEAKER 25 :
Well, that’s a good question. If someone has a large amount in savings, one of the things I do is we have a conversation about their risk tolerance. Nobody’s comfortable losing money, but having money in the market over a long period of time is a mechanism to accumulate wealth. And so we talk about the different levels of risk and the different products that are available. And we don’t put everybody into one box, but I have an enormous assortment of financial products. And it’s not that there’s good ones or bad ones. It’s there are some that are more appropriate for some people, but not for others.
SPEAKER 05 :
And that sounds excellent. How can folks get in touch with you for that meeting?
SPEAKER 25 :
You can reach me at 303-744-1128. And if I’m not there, it goes to voicemail, but I return my voicemails promptly. And we could have a conversation in the office. If you live a considerable distance away, we can have a long phone conversation or a Zoom call, whichever you would prefer.
SPEAKER 05 :
And as always, you can find him at klzradio.com slash money. Al, thanks so much for joining us today.
SPEAKER 25 :
Well, thank you, TJ. Thanks for the conversation.
SPEAKER 05 :
You bet.
SPEAKER 26 :
We’ve often wondered why would anyone who lives in Colorado not have solar? The government pays for most of it, and having solar installed on your home means no power bill. After you get solar, you can buy an electric vehicle and never get your oil changed or stop at a gas station again. Most of the solar tax credits and rebates end in just a few months. If you want to get solar or backup power to your home, you need to get a copy of your power bill to Allen Davis before September 15th to decide for yourself. Call Allen Davis at 303-378-7537. That’s 303-378-7537. Live and local, back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 18 :
All right, we are going to rattle off a few here. We’ve got one more break left before we end the program today. And again, if you’re listening to this as a replay, you are more than welcome to add to our list, but we will not mention those on air. So go ahead, Andy, roll a few off here.
SPEAKER 20 :
All right, one of the best ever, Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society.
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 20 :
An oldie but a goodie, The Paper Chase. Another classic, October Sky. And another classic, Mr. Holland’s Opus.
SPEAKER 18 :
Revenge of the Nerds, Old School, and Van Wilder.
SPEAKER 20 :
Van Wilder with Ryan Reynolds. Yeah, I really like that. Those are actually funny. Did you ever see The House Bunny? Yes.
SPEAKER 18 :
It’s actually a very funny movie, actually.
SPEAKER 20 :
And here’s one Richard likes, 21 Jump Street, Happy Death Day, which is a lot of fun. Revenge of the Nerds, you already said, so I’m going to say We Are Marshall.
SPEAKER 18 :
How about Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, American Pie, Superbad, and Napoleon Dynamite?
SPEAKER 20 :
Jeez, you’re hitting a lot of mine.
SPEAKER 18 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 20 :
You’re killing me here. Billy Madison. Oh, yes. Sky High. That was a lot of fun. Grease.
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, yes.
SPEAKER 20 :
Bad Teacher.
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, Bad Teacher’s funny. 16 Candles, Pretty in Pink, and Weird Science. Oldies but goodies.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, you’re going so fast here. Okay, how about The Graduate? Yes. Whiplash. And how about The Great Debaters with Denzel? Every week I’ve got to do a Denzel. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 18 :
Varsity Blues and Hoosiers.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, you took Hoosiers. How dare you? The Substitute, She’s All That, and Juno.
SPEAKER 18 :
The Outsiders.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, The Outsiders.
SPEAKER 18 :
Okay. That was a good movie.
SPEAKER 20 :
I’m starting to run low here.
SPEAKER 18 :
You’re fine.
SPEAKER 20 :
Peggy Sue Got Married. Did you ever see that, Nicolas Cage?
SPEAKER 18 :
I don’t know that I did.
SPEAKER 20 :
Kathleen Turner and Nicolas Cage, yeah.
SPEAKER 18 :
I don’t think I ever did, no.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, she is in a bad marriage. They’re in a terrible marriage. He cheats on her. So she decides, and she gets to go back in time when they met in high school and dump him. Okay. But it doesn’t go as she expected. It’s actually a surprisingly good movie.
SPEAKER 18 :
How about Lean on Me? Oh, yes. Good movie. Fantastic. Did we do Fame? No, we did not.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay, Fame. And did we do Rushmore?
SPEAKER 18 :
We did not.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay, there you go.
SPEAKER 18 :
Rudy. Rudy. Rudy, Rudy, Rudy. All right, I’ll end with that. Before we go to break, we’ll come back, finish things up. Roof Savers of Colorado, there we go, coming up next. And Michael Bailey, he is our mobile estate planner. Call him today. Get your state in order. Find him at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 28 :
Michael Bailey, the mobile estate planner, has the key to wisely protecting your college-aged kids. Think about it. If your kiddo goes off to college and gets hurt, the hospital won’t let you make decisions for them because at age 18 and above, they are technically an adult. What if they’re unconscious? Will a doctor let you make health care decisions for an adult and stay informed about their medical condition? No. Before they’re 18, it’s a given. You can make those decisions. But after 18, there is typically no spouse or someone already approved to legally make those crucial decisions. Michael Bailey can help make short work of a general medical or financial power of attorney for your college goer in one easy appointment. We’ll be right back.

SPEAKER 19 :
We don’t yell at you. We inform you. Now, back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 18 :
All right, we are back. Going to rattle off a few more school movies. So I’ve got one, Andy. Go. Did you say Coach Carter already or no? I did not. Okay, Coach Carter.
SPEAKER 20 :
That’s a good one. How about School of Rock? Go. Freedom Riders. Napoleon Dynamite. Go. I said that one. That’s okay. Superbad has been used.
SPEAKER 18 :
Nope. There you go. Let’s go Superbad. Mona Lisa Smile.
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, okay. How about Scream?
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, that’s a good one. Yeah. The Great Debaters.
SPEAKER 20 :
That’s a very good one.
SPEAKER 18 :
It’s actually a really good movie.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, yeah. Or wait, no, I said that one.
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, you did? I’m sorry. Denzel. How about then Finding Forrester? Oh, excellent. How about School Ties? Okay. Do you remember the Titans? I did. You did do that one?
SPEAKER 20 :
Oh, no, I didn’t.
SPEAKER 18 :
Go ahead. So there we go. Remember the Titans.
SPEAKER 20 :
Okay, I was talking about it. Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. That’s with Lindsay Lohan. Go.
