SPEAKER 06 :
This is Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 07 :
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes.
SPEAKER 04 :
With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 24 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did.
SPEAKER 25 :
Get a job first. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 27 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 13 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 06 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. Presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay, hour number two, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Thank you all for listening. We appreciate it greatly. This hour, movies with computers. Myself and Andy Rich will be joining us here in just a moment. Okay, so is there any parameters here that folks have to abide by, Andy?
SPEAKER 17 :
Not really. It just needs to have computers in it.
SPEAKER 11 :
Doesn’t have to be the theme of the movie.
SPEAKER 17 :
No.
SPEAKER 11 :
Because there’s not enough of those, by the way.
SPEAKER 17 :
No, there aren’t. I mean, and especially, by the way, if you just do with computer-themed movies, you have a few good ones and nothing else, and we’d be talking about a bunch of bombs the rest of the hour.
SPEAKER 11 :
So as long as there’s, like, I won’t give any examples because I don’t want to give anything away as we get through the hour here, but if there’s a computer in it and it’s got some involvement in the movie and so on, I mean, I don’t want just somebody where there’s a guy sitting at the terminal. That doesn’t count. It needs to have some involvement in the movie, I guess you could say. They’re using it in some ways. Does that make sense?
SPEAKER 17 :
Yes. They have to actually use the computer. Yes, of course.
SPEAKER 11 :
Computer usage. All right, we’ll do that. We’re going to come right back. We’ll get Richard going here in a moment. Paul Lumberger coming up next. My insurance broker, he would love to help you, by the way, with all of your insurance needs. I say that a lot, but seriously, I mean that he will. 303-662-0789.

All right, Flesh Law, Criminal, Civil, you name it, Kevin can help you on either side of the aisle, 303-806-8886.
SPEAKER 29 :
Here’s why you need personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch on your side. He understands the way the jury thinks. In the context of a personal injury case, you’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. The idea is that you’re going to try to recover so that you can get back to where you were just prior to that incident occurring. What that really means from a jurist’s perspective is that you’re going to be asking them to award you money. So when we talk about fairness, we’re talking about six people that you don’t know. Those six people view the evidence and make a unanimous decision that will decide what the fair value is. When you’re the one who’s hurt, you have a good idea of what you think it’s worth. The question is, can you persuade those other individuals whom you don’t know and were witnesses to believe that’s what the case is worth? Kevin Flesch understands the way the jury thinks. Call now for a free consultation. 303-806-8886

SPEAKER 11 :
Okay, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Myself, Andy Pate. Richard should be joining us here momentarily. And again, movies with computers. It doesn’t have to be all about computers, but we definitely want a computer in the movie. Okay. No offense, the old John Wayne Westerns probably don’t qualify.
SPEAKER 17 :
No, I don’t think so, John.
SPEAKER 11 :
Just saying.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay. I believe your son is joining us.
SPEAKER 11 :
True grit with John Wayne doesn’t count.
SPEAKER 17 :
No, I don’t think so.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right, Richard, are you there? That I am. Are you there? I am here.
SPEAKER 17 :
We are all here.
SPEAKER 15 :
Very nice.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, we have a quorum. Andy, I do have a quorum.
SPEAKER 15 :
Hold on, before we get started. But we do have our sports moment, right? And I have a question. Go ahead. Your Packers are heavily featured this year on some primetime games, baby.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, they are.
SPEAKER 15 :
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
SPEAKER 17 :
You know, it’s pretty good. Jordan Love does like primetime. Last year was a year when we had all the key injuries, and you know what it’s like. Every year you get a couple teams that have all the key injuries, and they fall apart, and they’re a mess. And that was us last year. Once we lost everybody, we were done. This year we should be a pretty good team. I don’t think we’re a Super Bowl team, but I think we’re going to be a pretty good team. And your Broncos right now… are the odds on favorite to come out of the AFC and be in the Super Bowl.
SPEAKER 15 :
Andy, I agree with you, but did you see the first six games of our schedule? No. Oh, my goodness. Read them off. What are they? We are at Kansas City. Easy win. On my first Monday night game of the year. Easy win. They’re terrible. I hope you are correct. They’re awful. They’re at Kansas City. We are then home against Jacksonville. Easy win.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, it’s a win, but I do like Jacksonville. I think they’re getting better, but that’s a win. I figured. Okay. Home against the Rams. Oh, toss-up. On Sunday night football. Toss-up. At the 49ers. I don’t know. I don’t know what they’re going to be like this year. They could be terrible. They could be pretty good again. could they’ve lost a lot and just so you know they’ve lost a lot in free agency go ahead yeah they they did but anyway at the chargers that could be tough home against the sea home against the seahawks on a short week i will pick um well depending on health of course you never know where the teams would be i’ll pick the seahawks anywhere
SPEAKER 15 :
The Chargers… Honestly, I’m actually less sold on the Seahawks this year, Andy, because they did lose Kenneth Walker. And I just think Sam Darnold’s going to come back to earth a little bit. I think that team will come back to earth. It’s hard to be the defending champions. I agree.
SPEAKER 17 :
No, it is because everybody’s gunning for you every week. The thing is that the Seahawks really have a defense that’s going to give a team like Denver troubles. They have a bunch… The Seahawks have a better defense than New England, and New England gave you troubles. And I just think… Look, had you guys, and I told you this last year, had you made it to the Super Bowl, I believe the Seahawks would have done the same to you as they did to New England. I really do. And that’s not ripping on you. I just felt you were a year away. Now, this year against the Seahawks, that could be a great game. I think the game that really intrigues me is the game at the Chargers because it all comes down to health. The Chargers have been a mess health-wise. If they are healthy, if they’ve got those wonderful offensive tackles back, they could beat you.
SPEAKER 15 :
No, I totally, I wholeheartedly agree with you on that. And I’m in the, well, I guess I feel the same way. My biggest thing is the six, basically, Andy, we got to go three and three, the first six games, because our middle of our schedule, we are good. Well, I hope so. And then the last three games, we play Buffalo against the, we play against the Bills at home on Christmas. Then we are at the Patriots, and then we’re home against the Chargers to close it out. So there’s some toughies.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, the Chiefs are a patsy. I mean, they’re going to be fighting it out with the Raiders for bottom of the division. So that one’s a given. But the next game, Jacksonville, you should beat because you’re at home. If you were in Jacksonville, I would give them a chance. You’re not, so I don’t give them a chance. After that, I think it gets interesting. But I think you’re going to be 2-0 going into Week 3.
SPEAKER 15 :
All right, Andy. You know, this is why I always have to talk to you, because you are always much more optimistic about my Broncos than I am. And I was right, wasn’t I? They went to the AFC Championship game. You were mostly correct, yes. Yeah. Okay. Okay, last question for you before we get to the movies. What are your thoughts, and I have my thoughts. So this year is sort of new. There’s two things that are sort of new, but one of them is really new, one of them is not. They are doing a Thanksgiving Eve game. which I believe is your Packers, if I’m not mistaken. I think so, yeah. And so that’s on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Yeah. I feel like that’s interesting. It’s interesting, but you know what?
SPEAKER 17 :
It’s been the holiday. I like keeping it on the holiday. What about you? I mean, it’s getting to where you’re going to have games every day.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, to me, and honestly, that Thanksgiving, basically it’s turning into Thanksgiving week because you have the Thanksgiving Eve game. You have your three on Thanksgiving. And there’s some actually great matchups. And actually the Bills at the Chiefs on Thanksgiving night. And then the Broncos play against the Steelers on Friday afternoon. Black Friday like it was last year. Those are two blowouts. I don’t disagree. But it’s just interesting because then, and obviously they won’t have Saturday because that’s a big college football rivalry weekend, but then they go into Sunday. So I’m not opposed because it’s more football. I guess I’ll be curious, and the market will tell us, Andy, right, as it always does, is what’s too much, right? You know, what’s too much. Football.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, because you’re not making Thanksgiving special anymore. If you put them on Wednesday and Friday and all this, come on, man. It’s supposed to be about turkey and football, right? You’re not having turkey Wednesday night. Not family. You’re not family, Andy. Who needs family on Thanksgiving? No, no, absolutely not.
SPEAKER 15 :
I mean, we got rid of that.
SPEAKER 17 :
We banned family.
SPEAKER 15 :
Exactly. I mean, let’s be honest.
SPEAKER 17 :
In some of our cases, it’s much easier. I know in the home of Richard Rush, the kids are banned to the backyard.
SPEAKER 11 :
Really quick, before we get to movies, somebody asked Richard, probably you more than Andy, what chance do the Avs have of getting the Stanley Cup?
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, they’re going to win it. Oh, well, so I think the Wilds are a better team than Vegas, who we now play, starts next Wednesday. Vegas is kind of like a conquering of the demons because a few years ago they knocked this out in, I don’t know if it was back-to-back, whatever it was. So they kind of knocked this out. We are the better team. Now, do better teams, and Andy knows this, win every game? No. Or do they even win every series? No. However, based on how deep the abs are and just the type of game they play, Vegas should make it a series, but it would not surprise me if the Avs kind of did what they did to Edmonton a few years ago. It wouldn’t surprise me if they swept them dead. Now, I’m not predicting a sweep. It just wouldn’t surprise me. And the matchup should be the Avs versus the Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup, and then I think that would actually be a really good series if that happens. But, yes, the Avs should. If they do what they’re supposed to do, they absolutely should win the Stanley Cup, yes.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right.
SPEAKER 17 :
I know nothing about hockey. It doesn’t even exist to me, so okay. I only know the Avs are the best team.
SPEAKER 11 :
That was the question. All right, should we get into movies? Yeah, let’s do it. All right, let’s do it. Let’s do a round. Go for it, Andy. Take it away.
SPEAKER 17 :
And here’s the thing. This first one is an obvious one. Everybody’s going to bring it up, but the best part of the movie was not even the computer stuff, but rather the characters.
SPEAKER 10 :
I agree.
SPEAKER 17 :
Led by Matthew Broderick, and that is War Games. Here we go.
SPEAKER 14 :
Shall we play a game?
SPEAKER 23 :
Love to. Let’s play. Global Thermonuclear War.
SPEAKER 1 :
Fine.
SPEAKER 23 :
Global Thermonuclear War.
SPEAKER 08 :
We have a launch detection. We have a Soviet launch. What the hell? Missile warning.
SPEAKER 23 :
No malfunctions. Oh, my God. I repeat, confidence is high.
SPEAKER 09 :
Mr. President, this is Barry.
SPEAKER 23 :
Is this a great movie, or is it real?
SPEAKER 04 :
What’s the difference?
SPEAKER 11 :
That’s a great movie. Did you see that, Richard? I never saw that, no. It’s a good movie. It’s old, but it’s good.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, let me tell you something, Richard. That was a movie where you saw a young Matthew Broderick, and you knew this guy was going to stardom.
SPEAKER 11 :
Really good movie. He just had it. I’ve never seen it. It is a great movie. Okay, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
All right, I may steal your first one, Dad, so my apologies if I did. But this, maybe not, I don’t know. This is about computers, lots of things. I’m going to go with Jobs with Ashton Kutcher.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, good movie.
SPEAKER 15 :
I’ve seen clips of it and kind of started to read his biography, and obviously you and I have an affinity. Well, Andy, you’re not quite on the Jobs train, but you’ll get there eventually, Andy. We’ll get you there.
SPEAKER 17 :
I still have great admiration for him. I own crappy stuff.
SPEAKER 15 :
You know, we can’t fix you all, Andy. It’s like the Democrats. You can’t fix them all at once.
SPEAKER 17 :
Mine has a belt that spins in it. It’s pretty cool.
SPEAKER 11 :
That’s funny.
SPEAKER 17 :
Just saying. And my computer went down the other day. The water pump went out.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, jeez.
SPEAKER 17 :
It was really awful.
SPEAKER 11 :
That cooling fan, Andy, right?
SPEAKER 17 :
That cooling fan.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay, this one, I’m maybe outside the lines a little, but I don’t think so because it’s still a computer because all of our smartphones are computers. And this movie is actually really, really, really funny. It’s not for kids, but it’s super funny. It’s called Jexy. Jexy. Jexy’s like Alexa or Siri, I guess you could say, in the guy’s phone, and it is hilarious.
SPEAKER 18 :
Okay, okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
That’s cool. It’s worth watching. It really is. All right, let’s get John and Cheyenne, who called in. John, go ahead.
SPEAKER 16 :
Hey, no John Wayne movies today.
SPEAKER 11 :
No. He was before the computer age, John.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
Just a little.
SPEAKER 16 :
So I got a question for Richard. I’m not downing on anybody. But all the breaks that the Broncos got last year at the end of those games go their way this year.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, no, the odds of that happening, John, are basically kind of what happened to the Chiefs this last year, which is they’re not going to win as many close games. And so for the team like the Broncos. in theory the next step is instead of winning the close games which is what they did last year you just increase those margins so you don’t have the close games right so you win those games instead of by one score you’re by three points you win them by six or seven now
SPEAKER 17 :
obviously easier said than done but no if they get into as many one score games as last year they their record will be worse okay here’s my big question richard on that the probably one of the unluckiest teams in the nfl over the last five years has been san diego does that change this year does their luck finally come around because everything has gone against them
SPEAKER 15 :
See, I’m probably going to go against John. I wonder if the Chargers are just one of those snake-bitten franchises, Andy. They seem to be. Will it ever change? It’s like Minnesota. If you’re a fan of Minnesota, your team’s going to always let you down, whether it’s a hockey team or a basketball team.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, the Vikings and the Bills going to the Super Bowl, losing eight between them.
SPEAKER 15 :
0 and 8 I mean I’m sorry exactly so yeah so I’m with you so it’s like at some point in time do you you know you just kind of give up that you’re never going to win and you’re just a you’re just a fan stuck in you know what and I feel like that’s the Chargers now not to say they’re not going to beat the Broncos once or twice but I don’t know if that makes them Super Bowl contenders I just hope something turns around for them I feel bad for their quarterback please somebody somebody somewhere not get hurt
SPEAKER 16 :
They’ve got to stop moving, though, or move to a totally different state. But going back and forth between L.A. and San Diego, the times they did, has hurt the fan base, too.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah. I don’t think California deserves any teams. I don’t think their fans are any good. So there you go.
SPEAKER 16 :
John, you’re up. Wonderful. I don’t know. I would just disagree with you on the 49 of fans.
SPEAKER 17 :
I know.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 16 :
All right. I got two good ones that probably are on no one’s list. Well, maybe one is. How about the worst computer ever? How in 2001 Space Odyssey? Oh, I think that’s a classic. Don’t you? Oh, that is one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever.
SPEAKER 11 :
It’s on my list.
SPEAKER 16 :
Hal turned evil. Yeah, it’s on my list.
SPEAKER 17 :
Here we go. Let me play a little. Here we go.
SPEAKER 23 :
I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that. What’s the problem? I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do. What are you talking about, Hal? This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
SPEAKER 03 :
I don’t know what you’re talking about, Hal.
SPEAKER 23 :
I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me. And I’m afraid that’s something I cannot allow to happen.
SPEAKER 17 :
Now, I just want to ask you guys, is every apple like that? No, they are.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, oh, really?
SPEAKER 16 :
I don’t know. I don’t know, Andy. I don’t buy phones made by Chinese people. slave labor, so I couldn’t tell you. Oh, you wouldn’t know. Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
So what phone do you use then?
SPEAKER 16 :
I use a Samsung, which is made in South Korea. That’s what I use too. Okay. Okay. I got one other and it’s from the 80s. Tom Selleck Runaway.
SPEAKER 11 :
That one I don’t know.
SPEAKER 16 :
It’s on my list. Yeah. It’s a world of AI where AI kind of
SPEAKER 11 :
Loses it a little. Okay.
SPEAKER 16 :
I just like Tom Selleck. Yeah, it was a good movie. I thought it was a pretty good movie. One thing, Andy. Yeah. In Independence Day, when they’re on the ship and Jeff Goldblum turns his computer on when they’re going to blow up the mothership. Yes. Do you remember that when he turned his computer on, it said, Good morning, Dave? Yeah. Because that was his name. I loved it. In the howl voice. It was awesome. Only us sci-fi geeks got that reference, probably. Oh, I loved it. I loved it.
SPEAKER 17 :
In fact, that entire scene was just awesome. It was great.
SPEAKER 16 :
You guys have a great rest of the day.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right. Appreciate you, John, very much. All right, Andy, take it away. Let’s do another round.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, okay. Let’s go with they used the computers and put one inside of Megan. Here we go.
SPEAKER 28 :
Upset you, Gemma? No, of course not. And yet your demeanor indicates that I have. Megan, turn off. Well, hold on a second. I thought we were having a conversation. You say nothing is wrong, and yet all the moisture has drained from your eyes and mouth into other parts of your body. There’s something you want to ask me, isn’t there? Megan, did you do something wrong? Well, in order to answer that question, you need to define the parameters. Did you hurt someone? God, I hope not. Because if I did, we’d both be in a lot of trouble.
SPEAKER 11 :
That’s creepy.
SPEAKER 17 :
Megan was… That’s creepy. Hey, Megan’s a good movie. The first one. The second one’s awful.
SPEAKER 11 :
I have not seen it.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, but the first one was very good.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay, Richard, take it away.
SPEAKER 15 :
All right, this is one I think both of you will like this one. And it’s an obviously, you know, old computer, but in old, you know, Benedict Cumberbund, whatever that is in this one for you. The Imitation Game.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, that’s a good one.
SPEAKER 15 :
Good one. Good one.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
Really, you know, really good. And that is a pretty accurate job of telling the story.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
They got to add some of the other weird stuff in it, but you know what it is.
SPEAKER 11 :
It’s a good movie. Yeah, I’ll take that one.
SPEAKER 15 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
Absolutely. I’m going to try to not do some of the ones that everybody would normally think of. But this one’s an old movie and a really good movie, one of Tom Cruise’s best movies, I think, Minority Report.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, gosh. That was so good.
SPEAKER 11 :
Great movie. Fabulous. It was. The cyborgs.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, fantastic. Yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right, Tom in Larkspur, you’re up. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 14 :
Hey, guys, I missed you last week. I went to the Kentucky Derby. Oh, good for you. Awesome. Man, I would tell you guys, if you’ve never been, the pageantry and everything, I was on the finish line, and it was a great thing for me and my wife, and I will tell you guys.
SPEAKER 17 :
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute. You were on the finish line? Nice.
SPEAKER 14 :
I was. I paid a little bit of money, and then we were 15 yards, basically, past the finish line, but we were right there on the finish line.
SPEAKER 11 :
Nice. Wow.
SPEAKER 14 :
Wow. I urge you guys to go. It’s fantastic.
SPEAKER 11 :
Good for you.
SPEAKER 14 :
Way to go. Anyway. I got both of my movies stolen by 2001 and then the Imitation Game, but I think the Imitation Game gets kicked out of technicality because it wasn’t really a decipher machine and not a computer.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, I guess you could say that.
SPEAKER 17 :
We’re doing an early form, though, and we are very forgiving here.
SPEAKER 11 :
I mean, I guess back in the day they would probably have called it. Well, they didn’t know what a computer was yet.
SPEAKER 14 :
Right, exactly. So, but, yeah, that was a great selection by the guy ahead of me, and a great movie, a little bit far with the truth, but, you know, pretty accurate.
SPEAKER 10 :
Great movie.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, I agree. That’s terrific.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay. Okay, guys, have a great weekend.
SPEAKER 11 :
Tom, thanks. No, appreciate it very much. All right, let’s do another round. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, well, how about email? Email is on computers, isn’t it?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 17 :
And you can have a romance that way in You’ve Got Mail. Here we go.
SPEAKER 11 :
You’ve Got Mail.
SPEAKER 08 :
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if I could pass all my zingers to you, and then I would never behave badly, and you could behave badly all the time, and we’d both be happy. But then, on the other hand, I must warn you that when you finally have the pleasure of saying the thing you mean to say at the moment you mean to say it, remorse inevitably follows. Do you think we should meet?
SPEAKER 17 :
And send. That was a pivotal moment in the movie. Do you think we should meet?
SPEAKER 11 :
I’ve never seen that movie.
SPEAKER 17 :
You haven’t seen that movie?
SPEAKER 11 :
Never seen it.
SPEAKER 17 :
You and the wife must watch You’ve Got Mail.
SPEAKER 11 :
Never seen it.
SPEAKER 17 :
It’s good.
SPEAKER 11 :
Just never have seen it. I don’t know why, I just haven’t.
SPEAKER 17 :
That’s Tom and Meg Ryan at the peak of their powers.
SPEAKER 11 :
I just never watched it.
SPEAKER 17 :
Richard, have you seen it? You’re a romantic fellow.
SPEAKER 15 :
I mean, I am not a romantic fellow, but yes, Andy, I have seen it.
SPEAKER 17 :
I’m not going to tell your wife you said that. Yes, you are.
SPEAKER 15 :
I would say she thinks I’m romantic, so we’ll just go with that.
SPEAKER 17 :
Do you burst in through the front door with roses every day you come home?
SPEAKER 15 :
Andy, you know, one of the things my dad did teach me, which I have started to pass along to my kids, is how to pick flowers.
SPEAKER 11 :
There you go.
SPEAKER 15 :
And it is a skill set that all of us men should learn. And how to pick flowers that are not the most expensive because, man, flowers are overpriced.
SPEAKER 17 :
I know, but your dad does it from the neighbor’s gardens at night when they’re not looking.
SPEAKER 15 :
Andy, if he only took that much care and time to go do, I know how he works. You’re up, man. All right. Um, I’ve got a good one and I just actually, actually it’s, I love hackers cause obviously I’m a nerd, you know, computer wise, whatever it is. And this is kind of, well, falls right in there. Swordfish with, uh, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, John Travolta. What a cast, by the way. Oh, man, what a cast. What a movie. I mean, just all of it blends together, and it’s a great film.
SPEAKER 17 :
By the way, if you like hackers, if you like hacking movies, Lifehack that I reviewed today would be just for you. Okay, good to know. Love it. Just so you know. Okay, John, you’re up.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay, let’s see here. How about… There’s so many. Let’s do… Pick one here out of all of them. Snowden. Got to put that one in there.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, yeah. Yeah. There you go.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 17 :
I’m good with that.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right. Joe is up next. Let me get him up here. Go ahead, Joe.
SPEAKER 05 :
Guys, first, I just want to point out that there’s a fine line. Now, there’s movies about computers where you’ve got hackers who are, like, live free and bad guys who are just using computers. And then you’ve got AI, when you talk about 2001 A Space Odyssey or War Games, those were early AI movies, of course, and AI lives in a computer.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, they’re designed by computers, so AI movies definitely apply.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right, but I think there’s a distinction between bad guys simply using a computer and AI running on a computer. And on that note, it’s not a movie, but I’ve got to say one of the greatest AI, in my opinion… series was that person of interest it ran for five seasons and it actually wound up with two battling there was a good ai and a bad ai battling for one was battling for world dominance and control and the other was battling for the freedom of mankind and it wasn’t a movie but it was five seasons i think 60 episodes i’m sorry caviezel yeah i’ve seen something yeah and um so if you want a a movie you know obviously And that was before its time, because back then it was science fiction. Today it could absolutely be real.
SPEAKER 11 :
Today it’s almost real. Yeah, good point.
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s almost real. So I just want to throw the hat in the ring, David. There is a distinction between using computers for evil purposes and AI going off on its own.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, but now you’re cheating like Richard, and you’re beating him to the punch, so he’s bitter about that. Aren’t you going to mention a movie? Sure, Live Free and Die Hard. Okay, let me do a clip here. Here we go.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s a fire sale. Hey, we don’t know that yet.
SPEAKER 20 :
It’s a myth anyway. It can’t be done.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, it’s a myth? Really? Please tell me she’s only here for show and she’s actually not in charge of anything. What’s a fire sale? It’s a three-step. It’s a three-step systematic attack on the entire national infrastructure. Okay, step one, take out all the transportation. Step two, financial base and telecoms. Step three, get rid of all utilities, gas, water, electric, nuclear, pretty much anything that’s run by computers, which today is almost everything. So that’s why they call it a fire sale, because everything must go.
SPEAKER 17 :
Easily the funniest of all the Die Hard movies.
SPEAKER 05 :
It was, but it also had to… And by the way, the guy that played the bad guy, what’s his name? He was in the series on TV, the Belstan Elmore Leonard Justified. Timothy Oliphant. Timothy Oliphant.
SPEAKER 17 :
I like him.
SPEAKER 05 :
He was great.
SPEAKER 17 :
And if you’ve never…
SPEAKER 05 :
And, by the way, I think Justified won several Emmy Awards over the course of its four-year run, I think. But, yeah, he played a—obviously, in Justified, he played a good guy. He played a U.S. marshal. But he played the consummate bad guy in Live Free or Die Hard.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right. There you go. All right, guys.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay. Joe, appreciate it. Let’s take a break. We’ll come right back. Golden Eagle Financial coming up next. Interview that Al did of late. Listen in. If you need to get hold of Al, just go right to klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 12 :
All right, we got Al Smith back with us on KLZ Radio. Al, I heard on a radio show the other day that people could replace their poor-performing annuities with new ones that earn 10% to 12% annually. Is that real?
SPEAKER 13 :
I think it’s an enormous exaggeration. I think there are some occasions where it might be in people’s best interest to replace an older annuity with a newer one, but to promise 10% or 12% returns… there’s only a very small percentage of annuities that have actually earned 10% or 12%. And sometimes unscrupulous people in the financial industry will use illustrations that are projected in the future but have no clear examples of how it has actually occurred in the past.
SPEAKER 12 :
That’s probably a big red flag when people give those guarantees, isn’t it?
SPEAKER 13 :
Well, they don’t usually say it with guarantees, but they make it sound like, oh, for sure, if you have a poor-performing financial product, we can get you one that’s going to pay 10 or 12 percent, and it’s guaranteed against loss. Well, the guarantee against loss is true, but the 10 to 12 percent performance, there’s about, I would estimate, maybe a 5 percent chance of that actually occurring in the future.
SPEAKER 12 :
Wow. So you heard it here, guys. If you really want to know the answer, give Al a call here. And Al, how do folks get in touch with you?
SPEAKER 13 :
You can reach me at my office at 303-744-1128.
SPEAKER 12 :
All right. You can also find him on klzradio.com slash money. Al, thanks for coming in today.
SPEAKER 03 :
You’re welcome. Investment advisory services offered through Brookstone Capital Management, LLC. A registered investment advisor. BCM and Golden Eagle Financial Limited are independent of each other. Insurance products and services are not offered through BCM, but are offered and sold through individually licensed and appointed agents.
SPEAKER 06 :
Live and local, back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Computer movies or movies with computers. Go ahead, Andy.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, we have to do one that’s all computers. Here we go. Oopsie.
SPEAKER 27 :
The story ends. You wake up in your bed. You take the blue pill.
SPEAKER 11 :
The Matrix, yes.
SPEAKER 27 :
The story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill. You stay in Wonderland. and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
SPEAKER 17 :
All right. That was an incredible movie. I mean, I love The Matrix. I agree. I wish they hadn’t made that last one that was such a bomb, because The Matrix was incredible.
SPEAKER 10 :
I agree.
SPEAKER 17 :
All right, Richard, you’re up. You said the last one was a bomb? Yeah, the very last one. That came out, I mean, like just a couple years ago.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, just a year or so ago, yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, I guess I never saw that one. Maybe I’m not missing anything.
SPEAKER 17 :
You miss nothing. Trust me, it lost incredible amounts of money.
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, good to know. Well, yes, you are correct on all accounts on that one, Andy. All right, you said Minority Report earlier. We’re going to go AI. I like this one. This is back when Will Smith was good. iRobot.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, that was a good one.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, it’s on my list.
SPEAKER 15 :
It just really put together, you know, really a good story, right, where you kind of go from not liking the robot to then he’s sort of the savior because of how he’s programmed, you know, getting AI.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, I agree. John, you’re up.
SPEAKER 11 :
Sneakers. Several people have mentioned it, so throw it out there as well. That’s Robert Redford, Aykroyd, all kinds of guys. Kingsley and so on.
SPEAKER 17 :
Lots of computer usage in that. By the way, a lot of stars.
SPEAKER 11 :
A lot of stars. A lot of stars. So there you go, sneakers.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, here we go. Russell Crowe in Virtuosity. Go.
SPEAKER 19 :
Then we’ll get it. How? Sacrifice your queen. What?
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, just a sec here.
SPEAKER 19 :
And now they have to shut you down. Can’t change what I am, Daryl. The one who created you are the one who created me. You see, in your world, the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. But in my world, the one who gave me life doesn’t have any balls. You’re frightfully inadequate for a deity, Daryl. I will not be shut down.
SPEAKER 11 :
I’ve never seen that movie.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, I totally recommend it, John. I totally recommend it. Don’t get me wrong. It gets a little bit silly because you’re talking about sci-fi in a day and age when… They didn’t know it was coming. Well, yeah, and there wasn’t that good of CGI or any of that kind of stuff going on. It doesn’t matter. I’m telling you what, you got Denzel, and it’s just great acting. It’s worth watching. So, Virtuosity. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
All right. We’ve done this topic before. We need to do it again, which is the movies where an actor’s in it, you’ll watch it pretty much no matter what. I guess kind of how I feel with Harrison Ford. I just really like that guy. Firewall.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, that was a good movie.
SPEAKER 15 :
I thought kind of underrated in a way.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. Yeah, I would agree with that.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, not one of his big ones. I agree. No. Okay, John, you’re up.
SPEAKER 11 :
How about… Free Guy. Yes. Which was a really good movie, by the way.
SPEAKER 17 :
It was a good movie. It was a fun movie. I gave it a good review.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, it was a good movie. I liked it.
SPEAKER 17 :
I enjoyed that one. Yeah. Okay, we had to go back in time, and this is Al Pacino in the movie Simone. And Simone is a fake actress that he has created, a CGI actress he has created that nobody knows she’s not real. And he has her being interviewed, and he is voicing it over. Here we go. Okay.
SPEAKER 24 :
No one can accuse you of being overexposed, Simone. Why have you stayed so completely out of the limelight?
SPEAKER 20 :
I guess I just think actors talk too much. I mean, does the world really want to hear my life story just because I have a movie opening on Friday?
SPEAKER 24 :
Wow. She is all woman. Of course, the problem with shying away from publicity these days is that it tends to attract even more.
SPEAKER 20 :
Don’t I know it? But the only reason I’m here now is to put the attention back where it belongs. On Mr. Taransky’s film.
SPEAKER 24 :
And you don’t secretly want the attention?
SPEAKER 20 :
I’m not even sure I deserve it. You see, after tonight, I’ll have just as much screen time on your show as I have in my movies. Now, how is that healthy for a performer? Because you have to understand, Frank, none of this is real. Who I am on screen and who I really am, they’re two totally different people.
SPEAKER 17 :
Al Pacino is wonderful. He always is. I mean, has he ever put in a role where he didn’t, you know, give it his all?
SPEAKER 11 :
No.
SPEAKER 17 :
I think he’s great. Okay, Richard, you’re up. Go.
SPEAKER 15 :
I can’t have ever seen that one, Andy. So, you know, I guess there you go. There you go. Two points for creativity. Tron. And I’ll go with the old one and the new ones, all of them. I thought Tron was a pretty good series, good films, all of it.
SPEAKER 17 :
Just not Tron Ares. No. Okay, good to know. Trust me on this. That lost, gosh, I think it lost like $100, $120 million or something like that. That’s a lot. Awful. Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
Hackers is my next one.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
Hackers. And then we’ll get Alex on. Alex, go ahead. Hey, John. Good. How’s the day going so far? Good, sir.
SPEAKER 09 :
How are you?
SPEAKER 11 :
Good.
SPEAKER 09 :
Can I list several movies or just one per call?
SPEAKER 11 :
No, go for it. We’ve got plenty, so go ahead. Okay. The Lawnmower Man. Okay. That’s on my list. Just a sec here. Here we go.
SPEAKER 23 :
Very cool movie, Lawnmower Man. Okay. I agree.
SPEAKER 09 :
Next one up, Eagle Eye.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, good movie on my list, too. Good one.
SPEAKER 09 :
Good movie.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yep. Old but good.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, go ahead. Event Horizon.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, I didn’t think about that one.
SPEAKER 09 :
What is it?
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, it’s a space movie. It’s pretty psychedelic, too.
SPEAKER 09 :
I didn’t know that one. No.
SPEAKER 17 :
Isn’t that Lawrence Fishburne in that?
SPEAKER 09 :
I know Sam Neill is in that one.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, I know he is. Okay. All right.
SPEAKER 09 :
I’ve got two more. Stargate. Stargate.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, yeah. Love, love.
SPEAKER 11 :
and then War Games. Yep, we started with that one. Good one. Okay. Awesome. Alex, appreciate you, man, very much. Sure. You bet. Have a great rest of your day, and go ahead, Andy.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, by the way, the two stars of Event Horizon were Sam Neill and Lawrence Fishburne.
SPEAKER 11 :
There you go. So there you go. Good job.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, you know what? Let’s just start going to some. I don’t want to play any more clips. We won’t have time. Ready Player One, which, by the way, was put out by Spielberg. I didn’t see that one. It’s a fun movie. I gave it three and a half, at least, maybe four stars.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 17 :
Worth seeing. Richard, you’re up. Hello?
SPEAKER 11 :
Did we lose you?
SPEAKER 17 :
There? No, are you there?
SPEAKER 11 :
There you are.
SPEAKER 17 :
You’re back. Okay. The Net.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, that’s Sandra Bullock, I think, is in that one, right?
SPEAKER 17 :
Yes, it is. Yeah. That was a good movie.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, it is a good movie. Social Network.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, that’s classic. Definitely a classic. I enjoyed that one. Okay, I am going to go with, let’s say, Bicentennial Man. And that’s with Robin Williams.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, let’s see here. Andy. Oh, this is one. Again, you’re going to yell at me, Andy. It’s a series, but it’s kind of a fun little series. And that is Silicon Valley.
SPEAKER 11 :
I’ve never seen it.
SPEAKER 15 :
I’m yelling at you. It’s on, I know you are. It’s on, I think it’s HBO or Showtime, one of those, but it’s about startups. And obviously there’s some computer companies and all that in there. All right.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay. That one I didn’t. Lucy, which I liked. You didn’t, but I did.
SPEAKER 17 :
I didn’t?
SPEAKER 11 :
I thought you didn’t like that movie.
SPEAKER 17 :
I don’t remember that movie. Is that Scarlett Johansson?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, and she’s this… Yeah, it’s pretty good. Yeah, it’s a good movie.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay. I’m going to go with the prequel to Aliens. It’s called Prometheus.
SPEAKER 11 :
Prometheus.
SPEAKER 17 :
And I didn’t love the movie, but I will say this. The computer graphics in it were incredible. All right, Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, let’s see here. Oh, I mean, it’s got computers in it because it talks about it, but Facebook, the social network.
SPEAKER 11 :
I just did that one. Are you not listening?
SPEAKER 15 :
No, clearly I’m not listening to you.
SPEAKER 11 :
Clearly not. I just did that.
SPEAKER 17 :
Sons who don’t listen to their fathers.
SPEAKER 11 :
Last round. I just did it.
SPEAKER 15 :
I didn’t hear you.
SPEAKER 17 :
Don’t love your father, but that’s okay. Go ahead. All right. Ender’s Game. I liked Ender’s Game. A lot of people didn’t. I enjoyed it. I did, too.
SPEAKER 11 :
I liked it.
SPEAKER 17 :
Harrison…
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 17 :
I have a clip. We don’t have time. Go ahead, John.
SPEAKER 11 :
Weird Science. Yes. That’s a funny movie.
SPEAKER 17 :
It is a funny movie. I really enjoyed that. By the way, let’s go with this was another one of those. The whole show was on the computer screen that you watch it. It’s very good. The guy loses his daughter and he’s searching for her.
SPEAKER 11 :
What was the name of that movie?
SPEAKER 17 :
It is called Searching.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 17 :
I gave that, I believe, four stars.
SPEAKER 11 :
I think you did, yes.
SPEAKER 17 :
That was a good movie. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
Animated here, Andy. Ralph Breaks the Internet.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yes. It’s on mine. I thought it was pretty good.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, if we’re going to go animated, then I’m doing WALL-E.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, of course. It counts. All right. Let’s go to where Richard found his wife, and that is Ex Machina. Had her designed.
SPEAKER 11 :
That’s a pretty good movie, actually.
SPEAKER 17 :
I still respect you, Richard.
SPEAKER 11 :
That is a good movie, actually.
SPEAKER 15 :
Not sure, Andy. Not sure here.
SPEAKER 17 :
It is a good movie. I like that movie.
SPEAKER 15 :
I did, too.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah. It’s rather touching at times. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
All right. I’m going to go with one that’s computers, AI. I’m going to go with Avengers Age of Ultron.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 17 :
I had a clip from that, too.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay. I’m going way back. Terminator 2.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, my gosh. My thumb was right next to what I was doing. Skynet. Skynet. How could you take that from me? Sorry. I’m hurt. I’m deeply hurt. Okay, I’m going to go Ghost in the Shell. The cartoon. Don’t do the live action, folks. Do the cartoon. Trust me on that. It’s anime. It’s good. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, let’s see here. All right, I’m going to do this one just because there’s… famous computer scenes in there and it controls the whole park and newman shut it down jurassic park because there’s lots you know remember when when samuel jackson you know he’s got to reboot the system oh yeah yeah yeah that counts totally yeah john you’re up let’s do sorry looking there’s so many i know i’m trying to uh the machine
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, okay. All right. Well, I’m going to go with one that came out about, I think, three years ago-ish. It’s called Upgrade. It’s a guy who gets a computer chip. He is a quadriplegic because of an accident. He gets a computer chip put in him, and the chip can control him and turns him into a killing machine. It’s pretty fun, actually. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, let’s see here. Did we do the Bicentennial there? Yeah, Andy did it. Okay, there you see? I’m at least asking now, you know, just pointing out here. All right, Death Race 2050.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, that’s a good one.
SPEAKER 15 :
Death Race 2050. The other Death Races were fun too, but you know. Yes, yes. 2050.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right, how about this one’s a funny movie, actually. And it is about computers because they go to Google for an internship. It’s called The Internship. The Internship, yeah. Why can’t I think of their names right now? My brain just went blank.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, I’m sorry.
SPEAKER 11 :
Vince Vaughn and the blonde-haired guy. What’s his name?
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, I know. Owen Wilson. Owen Wilson, there you go.
SPEAKER 11 :
And they’re hilarious. They are. The Google, they call it. The Google.
SPEAKER 17 :
The Google. The Google. Okay, guys, we’ve got to do two of our favorite characters, Luther and Benji from Mission Impossible.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, yeah, that one counts. The Mission Impossible movies.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, but they were computer nerds, and they were great. They added so much to it.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, those count.
SPEAKER 15 :
Richard, you’re up. You are correct. You are correct, and that was my next one. And it’s not a TV show. I’m going to go with one. Nope, you are correct. It’s not… I mean, this one shouldn’t have been made a movie. I do like the actors in it, but the… You know, Adam Sandler has a few of these all the time, and that’s Pixels.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh. Oh. I forgot about that. I did not think about that. Okay. Well done. Well done. Not very good. But it’s a great example.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right. I have one that you guys would not think of as being computers in it, but there is. And you could either do Wall Street or Wall Street Money Never Sleeps because both of them have lots of computers.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, yeah. Totally.
SPEAKER 11 :
Because all the trading.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, let’s do another one that has a lot of computers, and that is The Bourne Identity.
SPEAKER 1 :
Oh.
SPEAKER 17 :
Tons of computer work dragging them down.
SPEAKER 15 :
Richard, you’re up. RoboCop.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. He is. That was on my list.
SPEAKER 15 :
The robot, you know, but…
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, no, RoboCop counts.
SPEAKER 17 :
Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.
SPEAKER 11 :
That’s a great movie, actually. Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.
SPEAKER 17 :
I love RoboCop.
SPEAKER 11 :
Antitrust. Or antitrust, I should say.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well done, well done. I’m going to go back to The Matrix. The Matrix Reloaded.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, good one.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, gosh, that had some graphics in it. Absolutely unbelievable. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
This one’s got AI, and it’s got fighter jets, Andy, so I’m not sure it’s… there’s anything to complain about stealth. Hmm. Okay. I like the cast. Jamie, Jamie, uh, whatever, Jamie Foxx is in there. Yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
I’m going to go Alita Battle Angel.
SPEAKER 17 :
I guess that would be, I mean, she’s like partially computer, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 17 :
I like that movie way more than a lot of people.
SPEAKER 11 :
I liked it. It was a great movie.
SPEAKER 17 :
But why can’t I get anybody to watch it?
SPEAKER 11 :
I liked it. It was a really good movie, Andy.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay. I’m going to go way out there on one I guarantee neither of you has heard of. Sword Art Online, the movie.
SPEAKER 11 :
Never heard of it.
SPEAKER 17 :
Sword Art Online was, and it’s people who plug in. They plug in and play a game. Very popular anime, and they made a movie out of it. There you go, Richard. You’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
Andy, sometimes I wonder about you.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, but we can’t always do the same movies.
SPEAKER 15 :
You are correct. All right. Speaking of which, the Emoji movie.
SPEAKER 11 :
Ah, yes.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 17 :
Good one.
SPEAKER 11 :
And how about, probably have to go one more round here. I’ll go quickly here. Let’s do, oh gosh, there’s so many. Chappie.
SPEAKER 17 :
Chappie. Okay. I’m going to go Strange Days.
SPEAKER 11 :
Strange Days.
SPEAKER 17 :
Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
This is an older one of his films, but Black Hat. Is Chris Hemsworth in there? Yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
Black Hat.
SPEAKER 17 :
Is that Chris or Liam? I think it’s Chris. It’s probably Chris. Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
I don’t remember. And I’m going to go with some of these that people have mentioned. Contact.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
Contact. Okay. Richard, I’ll let you go. That’s it for today. Appreciate you. All right, have a great night. And he was going off as we could, you know, losing his signal. So there we go.
