Join John Rush and Jersey Joe for another insightful session where they discuss intriguing parables and social critiques. This episode opens with Joe sharing an amusing yet pointed story about Costco and Sam’s Club that captures the issues of entitlement and boundaries in a humorous light. From there, they engage in a captivating dialogue about policy discrepancies exemplified by contrasting advice from Canadian and Floridian law enforcement, thereby highlighting cultural attitudes towards self-defense and crime prevention. This leads to a broader discussion on the cost of incarceration and its implications for taxpayers, evoking thoughts on the societal impacts of
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes. With your host, John Rush. My advice to you is to do what your parents did.
SPEAKER 16 :
Get a job first. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 17 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 08 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 20 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush, presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 03 :
And we’re back, Hour 3, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, Jersey Joe joining us now. Joe, what’s up, sir?
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, John, tonight I’m coming to you live from Atlantic City, New Jersey, and the reason I’m down in Atlantic City, my grandson graduated from the New Jersey Police Academy yesterday, which is down in Cape May, New Jersey.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, congratulations.
SPEAKER 10 :
And, by the way, if you’re any further south, you’d be in the water. It’s at the very tip, southern tip of New Jersey.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yep. Know where it is.
SPEAKER 10 :
And we came down. Oh, you’ve been to Cape May.
SPEAKER 03 :
Not. I haven’t. My wife has, and she talks about it. So I know it from that.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yep. And for those who are not familiar with what you have to go through to become a police officer, it’s a 22-week program. You live in a barracks, bunk beds, you know, with a four-inch mattress.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right.
SPEAKER 10 :
Shaved head. You’re up at 6 o’clock every morning. Your day starts with a mile-and-a-half run. And it’s 22 weeks. And, by the way, he lost 25 pounds.
SPEAKER 03 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 10 :
They were 22 weeks, lost 25 pounds.
SPEAKER 03 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 10 :
And it’s, you know, and they do a lot of classroom, you know, law, search and seizure, you know, rights. Sure.
SPEAKER 03 :
Constitutional stuff, yeah.
SPEAKER 10 :
Constitutional stuff. And, by the way, the dropout rate, they started with 76 and wound up with 63. So they lost 13 along the way. Right. And to put that in perspective, Army basic training is only eight weeks. So to become a police officer, it’s six months of intensive. Oh, and no phones. They take your phone away. When you show up Monday morning, you hand in your phone, and you don’t get your phone back until Friday night. Wow. Good for them. That’s good. And good for him, by the way. Yep, great program, and he’s got a job with a— with a police department in New Jersey. They made him an offer prior to graduation, so he’s going to go to work getting it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, tell him thank you. We appreciate that. That is awesome.
SPEAKER 10 :
All right. Well, I appreciate it. I’ll pass it on. John, before we get into other stuff, you know, as a commercial pilot… Yeah, I haven’t talked about that yet, by the way.
SPEAKER 03 :
The India crash, do you want to talk about that for a moment?
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, and I’m a commercial pilot, and I’ve seen a video of the plane, and what happened, the plane took off, and it barely got airborne, you know, off the departure end of the runway, and then It did what’s called an aerodynamic stall. It basically stopped flying and just settled belly.
SPEAKER 03 :
It just came down. And I’m not an airline guy, but I want to see how close I am because since you’re an expert on this and I am not here, from watching it several times, listening and so on, here are my thoughts. And I could be completely off track. But, A, I don’t think it had enough airspeed. B, the flaps weren’t down. And it seemed to me like it just – and, again, this is me observing, and I know planes are really heavy. But to me, that one seemed like it was extra heavy, but maybe that’s because of the two things I just said.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, Tony, I think you’re spot on. Very, very close. And a plane like that can’t take off without flaps and this leading edge. To get maximum lift at low airspeed, you want to add curvature to the wing, and you add curvature to the wing by lowering the flaps of the back edge, and then there’s a drooping leading edge flap. They call them a flap on the front.
SPEAKER 18 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 10 :
So by lowering the flap in the front and deploying the flaps in the back, you basically… You curve the wing, and that’s great for low speed. You get lift at low speed. It’s awful at high speed because you don’t want all that drag. And it looked to be they skipped that part of the checklist and attempted to take off with no flaps and no slats. And you can’t fly that plane.
SPEAKER 03 :
Not that one. No, the Dreamliner. That’s stinking. As you know, that baby’s heavy, Joe.
SPEAKER 10 :
That baby’s heavy, and it looks like the wings were clean, which is how you would want them at 30,000 feet.
SPEAKER 03 :
And the reason I say that for all of you listening is when I first saw that, and there’s a video where somebody just happened to be at the right place at the right time as it was going over the top, and it was going down, not up, and yet you can tell the engines are up, and you could just tell this thing is lagging. It is super heavy. It wants to literally fall out of the sky, which essentially, Joe, is what it did.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, when people say an airplane’s fault, it doesn’t mean the engines quit working.
SPEAKER 03 :
No, it has no lift.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right, you lost airflow over the top of the wing, and you basically just drop. Your wings are no longer generating lift, and you literally just fall out of the sky. The engines are still working just fine, but you don’t have the lift. And that looks like what happened is that they forgot to deploy the flaps, and that’s part of your checklist. And if they get into it, you know, it hasn’t happened in the U.S. I think in 20 years.
SPEAKER 03 :
And really quick, for a lot of people listening, and Joe, if you fly enough, you can literally hear those things being engaged. You know, you’re sitting there. You know, it’s okay to taxi out and so on. And a lot of times you can literally be sitting there. At least I pay attention to this. You can hear those sorts of things happening. They sound like large groans, and you kind of wonder, okay, what’s going on? But that’s the hydraulics, and it’s making the flaps move. you know, go down, and you can typically hear those things as you’re sitting there getting ready to take off.
SPEAKER 10 :
It’s kind of a whiny groan, like a whine. Some of them are jack screws, threaded jack screws, and others are just hydraulics.
SPEAKER 03 :
And even those are still run by hydraulics or just a pump that’s running the jack screw.
SPEAKER 10 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 03 :
There’s no little guy down there running those things in and out with a hand crank. Let’s just say that, Joe.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right. So I think, John, in about a year from now when the Indian – Now, by the way, since it was a U.S.-built aircraft, the American NTSB will be involved, and representatives from Boeing will be involved, too, but it’s going to be handled by the India Air Transportation.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, again, just from looking at the airplane itself, it was not a, in my opinion, again, I’m not you, Joe, I’m not an expert in this, but it didn’t look to me like there was anything defective there that was pilot error.
SPEAKER 10 :
No, pilot error. Forgot to deploy the flaps and the slats.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right. That’s sad, because a lot of people died, which didn’t need to.
SPEAKER 10 :
242 people, plus it landed on a cafeteria. Yeah, on a school. Five students. Yep. On a medical school, and five people in the cafeteria were killed, too. That’s sad. Anyway, that’s today’s tragedy. All right. John, I gave you two quotes. One’s a two-video clip. One’s of Thomas Sowell, but before we do the Thomas Sowell, we all know Thomas Sowell, the economist. He’s an African-American economist. And, you know, have we talked about how all the violence in Europe, you know, the no-go zones and all the bombings in Sweden from Muslim bombings? And here’s a quote from Thomas Sowell on the situation in Europe. And he said, Europe is belatedly discovering how unbelievably stupid it was to import millions of people from cultures that despise Western values and which often promote hatred towards the people who have let them in. So they let in these people, they despise your values, and now you let them into your country, and now they hate you because they despise your value. That kind of sums it up.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, it sums it up. Do you want me to play that?
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, why don’t you, it’s not quite enough, but let’s play the Thomas Sowell clip. It’s real quick on the difference between equal opportunity and equal outcomes. And by the way, he uses the term redistributionists.
SPEAKER 03 :
Are you ready, Charlie, for me? Okay, here we go.
SPEAKER 13 :
Redistributionists is between opportunity and outcomes. And one of the examples I used in a recent column was, you know, when I was a kid, I briefly tried to play basketball. And, I mean, I was lucky to hit the backboard, never mind basket, you know. We had just as much opportunity to play basketball as Michael Jordan had. You cannot measure opportunity by outcomes. And that’s what the redistributionists insist on doing.
SPEAKER 03 :
Big confusion. Well said, I should say, Joe.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, because they all want equal outcomes. And I think we talked about this a couple months back about wealth inequality. I view wealth inequality as a symptom of a healthy capitalist economy. The only place you will find no wealth inequality… is in places like North Korea, Somalia, Cuba. Yeah, where everybody is equally poor because there’s no opportunity to become a… No incentive to do anything other than what you’re already doing, and the only buddy that has anything better than that are the guys running the place. Right. Because there’s no incentive to take the risk. I mean, if you watch the Disney… If you watch the… The men who built Disney. Walt Disney took, you know, some incredible risks, not once, three or four times.
SPEAKER 03 :
Massive, yes.
SPEAKER 10 :
In building what is today.
SPEAKER 03 :
And so did a lot of others. Joe, we could be here the rest of the hour naming off the folks that did from literally even in today’s world, the Elon Musk to the Henry Fords to the Rockefellers to on down the line we go. Everybody looks at those guys and thinks, oh, yeah, well, they made it. You know, the left will say, well, yeah, but they’re the ultra rich. Well, how do you think they got there, Joe?
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, they took the gambles. And by the way, for every one that’s successful, there’s 50 to 100 that gambled and lost.
SPEAKER 03 :
Or more.
SPEAKER 10 :
You know, or more.
SPEAKER 03 :
And really quick, every one of those guys that I just mentioned, from Musk to Ford, both of those guys were literally, Joe, as you know, on the edge of losing it all. In some cases, mortgaging or putting every single thing they had back into it to see it succeed. You know, they didn’t get there by chance, is my point.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I worked for Carrier. Willis Carrier, the father of air conditioning, mortgaged his home. He borrowed from friends and family. He was deeply in debt and penniless. If he hadn’t been successful, he would have lost his home and been bankrupt.
SPEAKER 03 :
And there’s guys like, you know, Tucker for lots of other reasons, but did exactly that and did end up penniless and poor.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right, right. Yeah, Tucker automobile, right? Right. Yeah. All right. Hey, John, I want to move on to a parable. You went to Bible school. You did a lot of parables. Oh, yeah. All right. So here’s a parable, John. So I went to Costco the other day, and I managed to sneak in around the card reader. You know, I didn’t have a card, because I didn’t want to wait in line to get an actual membership or one of those one-day passes. So they finally caught me in the store, and they asked me to leave or go to the service desk to get a membership card. But instead of leaving, I demanded free products and food and waved my Sam’s Club flag in the middle of the Costco store. Good one. To show them just how much I love Costco and why I want to stay there. When they still asked me to leave, I began stealing whatever I could and threw frozen hamburger patties at the store security. They should have just let me in, shopped there without a membership because I’m special.
SPEAKER 03 :
You forgot one part, Joe. What’s that? You lit the center section on fire as well. That’s right.
SPEAKER 10 :
I forgot that.
SPEAKER 03 :
You missed that part.
SPEAKER 10 :
I missed that part.
SPEAKER 03 :
And the checkout lanes. I mean, you know, the reality is you did a lot more damage than what you just said.
SPEAKER 1 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 03 :
Unbelievable. It’s a great parable because what you just said, while we laugh at it, it really isn’t any different than what some of these knuckleheads are doing right now.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, they’re coming into our country, and they’re waving the Mexican flag. If you’re so proud of Mexico, why are you here waving the Mexican flag? Why aren’t you back in the country? You’re waving the flag. All right.
SPEAKER 03 :
And really quick, Joe, and I’ve seen, just for all of you listening, before somebody on the left get mad at me, I have seen, Joe, not one but dozens of videos by Mexicans that have come here that did things correctly, that are now citizens, that are basically saying the same thing you and I are. Like, what are you knuckleheads doing?
SPEAKER 10 :
Mm-hmm. Yeah, well, it’s just… What are you knuckleheads doing? Why are you waving at this? So that would be, again, the equivalent of going at the Costco and waving a Sam’s Club flag.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 10 :
Why are you, you know, if you like Sam’s Club, why are you here?
SPEAKER 03 :
Great point.
SPEAKER 10 :
Why are you here?
SPEAKER 03 :
Great point.
SPEAKER 10 :
Hey, do we have to go to a break?
SPEAKER 03 :
No, we can do the next one. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 10 :
All right, all right. So here’s, let me get this set up. So it’s really quick. It’s like a 20-second clip. So it’s a Canadian sheriff. He’s holding, like, a town hall meeting. He’s giving advice to people. because there’s been a rash of people breaking into homes, you know, trying to get the key fobs to the cars. And then we have a Florida sheriff giving advice to his people in his town. So it happens real quick. You’ll have to listen for the cutover from what the sheriff, Canadian sheriff is telling the people in his room to what? Here we go.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. The possibility of being attacked in your home, leave your fobs at your front door. Because they’re breaking into your home to steal your car. They don’t want anything else.
SPEAKER 19 :
Somebody’s breaking into your house, you’re more than welcome to shoot them in Santa Rosa County. We prefer that you do, actually. We have a gun safety class we put on every other Saturday. And if you take that, you’ll shoot a lot better, and hopefully you’ll save the taxpayers money.
SPEAKER 03 :
That is hilarious, Joe. What a dichotomy between the two.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, no, just lay back, let them take your car, leave your key fob near the front door so they don’t have to come into your bedroom for it. Just let them break into your house, take your key fob, and let them go without hurting you. In Florida, just get your gun and shoot them. There’s other sheriffs that shoot them so they look like Swiss cheese, you know.
SPEAKER 03 :
Beat them back out of the house. I know that sheriff. I listen to him quite a bit. He’s not being facetious. He’s being very honest there.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, absolutely, because, by the way, so if a thug gets arrested and demands a jury trial, court-appointed attorney, prosecutor, staff, it’s a $200,000 trial. Then you know what it costs to keep somebody in jail these days?
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, it’s a fortune, Joe.
SPEAKER 10 :
Depending on the state, something like California is more than $100,000 a year, but let’s say $80,000 a year. So if you send a guy to jail for 10 years at $80,000 a year, that’s $800,000 plus the $200,000, you know, in court costs. And it’s a million dollars to send a thug to jail for 10 years.
SPEAKER 03 :
Unbelievable.
SPEAKER 10 :
So when he says, you know, save the taxpayers money, that’s what he got.
SPEAKER 03 :
He means it. Yeah, he means it. He means it, absolutely. There was an old song, I haven’t heard it for the longest time, it was about, you know, Clint Eastwood and Dirty Harry and all that, and there’s one little part of the song where he talks about, you know, no, let’s see, how does it go? Something about… No something and no reports to file, something along those lines. In other words, same situation. We’ll just save everybody money when it’s all said and done.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yep, said and done. Mostly peaceful protests. You know what, I guess what mostly peaceful means is that less than 51% of the cars are on fire.
SPEAKER 03 :
Ah, less than 51%. That’s mostly. Yeah.
SPEAKER 10 :
Or less than 50% are in fire.
SPEAKER 03 :
So you’ve got to be at that 50% or lower, so 49% or lower to be mostly.
SPEAKER 10 :
Mostly, right.
SPEAKER 03 :
You sound like Nancy Pelosi now. She said something similarly as stupid, Joe. I mean, I don’t have it in front of me. I should have pulled that clip. I don’t have it in front of me. But she basically said something to the effect of, you know, they’re just letting off steam. They’re just venting. I’m paraphrasing, but that’s essentially what Nancy Pelosi said.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, come on.
SPEAKER 03 :
I’m not joking, Joe. That’s basically what she said.
SPEAKER 10 :
Did you see the picture of the there are people on the overpass throwing cinder blocks and rocks at the police cars on the road?
SPEAKER 03 :
I did not see that. No, that one I missed. I didn’t see that.
SPEAKER 10 :
There’s three or four L.A. police cruisers stopped under this underpass. I guess traffic was blocked and there were people on the overpass throwing, you know, good sized rocks, you know, bigger than your hand. And this is not National Guard. This is L.A. Police Department. And these cars are being broken windshield, hoods paved in, and the cops are running for cover under the underpass because one of the rocks is going to kill you.
SPEAKER 03 :
And I found a quote. Nancy said that she dismissed the riots, saying that the rioters were caught up in exuberance. So, Joe, they’re just being exuberant in what they’re doing. I’m not lying. That’s exactly what she said.
SPEAKER 10 :
Nancy needs to go. Nancy’s time has passed.
SPEAKER 03 :
Her time has passed. I mean, by the way, she had a hard time getting exuberance. Even Al probably had to have one of her handlers telling her ear what that even means. But, yeah, that was her quote. They were just being exuberant.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, my goodness. What else we got to talk about today, John? Let’s see. Well, John, I missed most of the previous hour. What did you have going on?
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, you know, honestly, we cut off. I had a lot of things to talk about, and a lot of folks, we actually got talking about DMV and getting things licensed and titled and elderly people driving and so on. So nothing to really do on a nationwide basis. Had some home stuff. One thing I do want to mention. And while you’re with me, I’ll do this, Joe. And this is, I was going to do this anyways, because I am critical of equal sides when it’s necessary. And one thing that I’m going to be critical of, and I’ve seen some folks even here around our area reposting some things, And this is about Christy Walton and her views on tariffs and so on. And first of all, Christy Walton being a very rich lady, she actually inherited. Her husband was actually a Walton. She is not. She is not a Walton by birth. She married and her husband died in a tragic accident. Actually, it was an airplane accident, an experimental aircraft he died in. So she inherited all of his money. So a lot of people out there on our side will say that, well, you know, the Waltons are for this, the Waltons are for that. Well, time out. No, it’s Christy Walton, and she’s not necessarily a quote-unquote Walton. And it’s nothing that she has done, by the way, is anything that would be said by anything Walmart-wise or Walton-wise. But yet our side will come out and want to destroy Walton because of some of Christie’s sayings. And those of you listening, please, you’ve got to separate the two. They are not one and the same.
SPEAKER 10 :
No, she married into the family. Yeah, she’s worth $18 billion. That’s right. She’s not a Walton by birth. She’s a Walton by marriage.
SPEAKER 03 :
And she’s very much anti-Trump, but that does not mean that Walton or that Walmart or the rest of the Waltons are. Just because she is doesn’t mean everybody else is. So our side tends to throw everybody into one thing, Joe, and that’s wrong. And when we do that, we are being as much of a knucklehead as the other side is when we do that.
SPEAKER 10 :
No, she has no say, other than the fact that she’s a voting shareholder.
SPEAKER 03 :
She owns 1.6% of the stock. It’s very low.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right. She’s not part of the management team. She has no say in how Walmart conducts its business.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s right. That’s right. So I just want to make sure we close with that so that our side knows not to repost things that make us look stupid.
SPEAKER 10 :
No, she doesn’t speak for Walmart. She has no control over Walmart.
SPEAKER 03 :
And where a lot of this came from is she is a proponent of the no King’s Day coming up, of course, Saturday. But again, just because she is does not mean that Walmart is. So no, folks, we don’t need to boycott Walmart because of what Christy is saying.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yes, and by the way, the left has… is characterizing that parade on Saturday as Trump’s birthday parade. It happens to be the exact date of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Army. That’s right. That’s exactly right. So it’s not Trump. It happens to be Trump’s birthday, but that’s not the reason for the parade. That’s right. It’s to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Army. That’s right.
SPEAKER 03 :
I’m glad you brought that up. That’s a good place to close. Thank you for doing that, Joe. I appreciate that.
SPEAKER 10 :
My pleasure, John.
SPEAKER 03 :
Good stuff, as always. We’ll talk to you next week. You bet. Have a great rest of your night. Geno’s Auto Service coming up next. They’ve got a great AC special for your car right now. Go to genosautoservice.com, and Geno starts with a J.
SPEAKER 01 :
Air conditioning season is starting in Colorado. Are you ready? Take advantage of Geno’s Auto’s air conditioning recharge special. Is your vehicle’s air conditioning ready to keep you cool on hot Colorado days? We all know how fast Colorado can heat up. The refrigerant in your air conditioning system gets contaminants, evaporates, and breaks down over time. That refrigerant needs to be able to absorb heat to be able to cool your vehicle’s interior. Geno’s uses a cooling machine that takes out the old refrigerant and cleans it. Then they put the clean refrigerant back, topping off with Freon at the right level. To make your life simpler, Geno’s offers loaner vehicles so you can drop your car off and pick up when ready. We back up our work with Napa’s nationwide 36-month, 36,000-mile warranty. Stay cool this summer by making sure your system is up to date and ready for this year’s summer heat. Give us a call or go online to schedule an appointment. We’re AAA approved and located at Bowles and Platte Canyon. Stop in or visit us online at genosautoservice.com.
SPEAKER 12 :
Cub Creek Heating and AC can help you make the most out of every air conditioning dollar. Cub Creek are experts at rebates and tax incentives. And because they know that prices for everything are higher from sheet metal to refrigerant, Cub Creek will ensure you get the most efficient and most effective cooling system. They’ll inspect your home and let you know the options that are best suited for your home. We’ll be right back. Make the money-saving call with the company who will take care of you. Rheem Certified Pro Partners Cub Creek Heating and AC by finding them on the klzradio.com advertisers page.
SPEAKER 08 :
Veteran Windows and Doors will always offer you the right windows and doors specifically engineered for your home. They make sure every window and door they install is up to code and energy certified. Veteran Windows has learned that the government creates blanket regulations that don’t make any sense for Colorado homes due to our higher elevation. In fact, these regulations will only increase your carbon footprint. With the wrong windows, more heat will penetrate through the glass and your AC will need to work even harder. costing you more money. And to comply with the new regulations from the Department of Energy and the EPA that go into effect soon, other companies will sell you windows that aren’t compatible with Colorado’s elevation. You need windows that are suitable for your area. And veteran windows and doors can help make sure that happens before the new law takes effect in January. For the month of June, when you buy up to three windows, enjoy 35% off. Buy four or more windows and receive 40% off, all with free installation. Get in touch with veteran windows and doors at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 06 :
This is Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 03 :
And we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Our next guest, candidate for lieutenant governor of North Carolina, Dr. Josh McConkie, Air Force colonel and author of Be the Weight Behind the Spear. Dr. Josh, welcome. How are you?
SPEAKER 04 :
Thank you very much. Appreciate you having me on the show.
SPEAKER 03 :
I appreciate it, and this was good timing because when I saw your name come up and what we could talk about today in regards to Fathers and Father’s Day, which is just on Sunday, and this is sort of getting close to my last segment of the week. We do movie reviews and things tomorrow, so really going to be my last segment as we approach Father’s Day. So, A, I appreciate you joining us in regards to that. And I don’t know where to start here, Dr. Josh, other than I think in a lot of cases, you know, Mother’s Day is great. Moms get a lot of credit, as they should. Mother’s Day is a much bigger, you know, quote, unquote, holiday. And I think in a lot of cases, Father’s Day kind of ends up just being the gratitude of, well, we did mom, so now we got to do dads. And dads get a bad rap in a lot of cases. And frankly, Dr. Josh, it shouldn’t be that way.
SPEAKER 04 :
You know, Father’s Day, it’s a very special day for me. Obviously, my father was huge in my life. I’ve got three children of my own. And just realizing that what you have to give, you know, really matters. The best resource that we have in this country, it’s our people. We look at teachers, coaches, volunteers, and families, and fathers.
SPEAKER 03 :
Amen. Okay, so the book, Be the Weight Behind the Spear. A, what do you mean by that, and what are we going to find in the book?
SPEAKER 04 :
So be the weight behind the spear. It’s my personal leadership ethos. I’ve worked with a lot of special operations and individuals that have been the tip of the spear. And every single one of them has had someone in their life, a teacher, coach, or family member that have given them the amazing confidence to do what they do. And I don’t jump out of airplanes and take out bin Laden, but I do take care of men and women that do. That’s being the weight behind the spear in your community.
SPEAKER 03 :
Makes total sense. And, hey, thank you for doing that, by the way. And, again, I was not trying to be down on Mother’s Day a moment ago because moms deserve a lot of credit. I just feel like at times, Dr. Josh, that men go to all sorts of different places. And, frankly, in some cases it can be in the pew on Sunday, and they just get beat up. They’re not doing this right. They’re not doing that right. They need to do this better, do that better. And, by the way, I’m not saying that some of that isn’t true or that all of that isn’t true, but at times I think men can feel very – deflated and like, you know, they don’t matter, you know, other people and even their kids’ lives matter more, and frankly, Dr. Josh, nothing could be farther from the truth. Dads matter greatly.
SPEAKER 04 :
They do, and even realizing that just a father figure in your life, some people don’t have a father figure, but you’ve got a coach or a teacher or another family member that can step into that role. I mean, it takes a village. It’s a team sport. Like, all males need to get involved.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. And I think sometimes men, you know, we sometimes even sell ourselves a little short in that particular arena. You know, we think at times, you know, the world, by the way, and I’ve said this for a year, Dr. Josh, I’ve been critical of even TV and movies and sitcoms and so on. I mean, they’ve made dad to be a buffoon for years and years and years. And yes, I get it. There’s a lot of comedy in that and it becomes very fun. But at times it’s very degrading as well because, you know, we’re not all Al Bundy. I mean, the reality is we’re not all buffoons. As much as that show was funny, we’re not that way, nor should we be, by the way.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. And the Homer Simpsons out there.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. Yeah. Thank you. And by the way, I could keep rolling. There’s many a sitcom to where, you know, dads are very much made fun of. Mom’s the, you know, the light at the end of the tunnel and dad’s the big buffoon. And frankly, Dr. Josh, it should not say mom shouldn’t be that way. They should be a light in the family. But so should dads. It’s a co-parenting. It’s a co, you know, I don’t want to say dependency, but it’s a co-sharing of those responsibilities to raise up good men and women.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s a team in my household. My wife, obviously, she’s a – I’m a colonel in the Air Force, but at home she is running the ship for sure. So, you know, it’s a team sport, and, you know, it does take a family.
SPEAKER 03 :
So for those men that are listening, Dr. Josh, to where, yeah, I get it. Sometimes you can feel, man, you had a rough day at work and everybody was down on you there and things didn’t go quite as well as it should be, whether you’re blue-collar, white-collar, which I hate those names because we’re all doing what we need to do to make things work and put food on the table and keep our economy moving forward and so on. So at the end of the day, everybody’s needed. But, man, some days it can just be disastrous. And you come home at night and you think, holy cow, what else can go wrong? And then whatever else happens to be from the day gets laid on you and you go to bed at night and think, holy cow, I got to do this all over again tomorrow. So, you know, how how do we encourage men along those lines?
SPEAKER 04 :
So, you know, having those resiliency skills, a lot of that is making sure that you’re taking time for yourself as well. Mental health is something that men do not like to talk about. As an emergency physician, it’s something I see when it doesn’t get addressed, the very late stages of that with anxiety, depression, and unfortunately some suicide. So have a good crew around you. Have that weight behind your spirit, spirit of your colleagues. or some other family members or close friends that you can lean on. And everyone has a different set of skills and things that they can contribute. So either coaching or volunteering at a church or school. Or if you don’t like people, you know, go to an animal shelter. Those animals are the emotional support animals for somebody.
SPEAKER 03 :
My wife will love you for that. She’s big on that, so absolutely. Point being, find your skill set. Find what you’re good at. Find what you enjoy. Also, to your point, Dr. Josh, what helps you out mentally when it’s all said and done? Because my next question is, how do we send the message, even to those that are listening, that aren’t dads? Maybe they’re male, female, doesn’t matter, but those that aren’t dads, that don’t feel that weight I just mentioned a moment ago, how can those folks help dads?
SPEAKER 04 :
So those individuals, that is the best resource we have in this country. It’s our people. So that resource, it’s about your community, getting out there, volunteering. Everyone has something different to give. There’s so many different organizations that you can be a part of. You’re helping to build the future, our future leaders, and the next generation of Americans. Get involved. We need you.
SPEAKER 03 :
Amen. Yeah, absolutely. The other thing I personally want to pass on is, Dr. Josh, everybody has a different experience with their dad, some good, some bad. I’ve got some great experiences with mine. He was great when we were little, especially when it came to teaching us how to be men, how to treat a lady. How to hunt, how to fish, how to live off the land, how to shoot a gun, how to do all sorts of things that I still value today that have helped me out immensely in my life. How to be a leader, what to say, what not to say, all those different things. My dad was a man’s man, I guess you could say. He’s in elder care or in memory care now. We laugh, otherwise we’d cry, Dr. Josh, and we’d go and see him because some days he knows who we are, and the next day he may not have any idea who we are. But I have those memories, and I know what he taught us. And I also know that not every man out there has those same experiences. In fact, they may have very negative thoughts and negative things that happened when it came to their dad. But my feeling on that is, Dr. Josh, that can be changed. You don’t have to do what your dad did if it wasn’t a great experience. Yeah, that cycle can be broken.
SPEAKER 04 :
Absolutely. And the men around your life, take the good from the people that you really admire and look up to. And for the people, you know, some of the ones that had some of those negative memories, make sure you don’t do that. Amen. So, you know, you can break that cycle. You are not beholden to what was in your past.
SPEAKER 03 :
Absolutely, and I cannot stress that enough because I know, again, as I said earlier, and I hate to keep going back to this, but the world in general, you know, we’ve got an entire – in politics even, there’s one side that loves to beat up men, and sometimes both sides tend to do that, and sometimes the church will even do that. Sometimes our own families will do that, and the reality is – To your point, you’ve got to stay positive, have a plan, know what you’re going to do moving forward when it comes to all of that. And I love the title of your book, Be That Weight Behind the Spear, because we all can’t be, as you know, we all can’t be the spear, but what can we do to help those that are?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, just getting involved. And the earlier you get involved, the better. When you talk about parents, teachers, coaches, even business leaders getting involved in this younger generation, they will be coming to you looking for jobs at some point so you can teach them those ownership skills and how to be accountable. And in my household, we talk about standards, not rules. There you go. Nobody likes the rules. That’s right. Rules are made to be broken. That’s right. Everyone understands a standard, and they can take pride in that.
SPEAKER 03 :
Attain to it.
SPEAKER 04 :
Those are the important things.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, attain to that standard. Okay, you’re also a candidate for lieutenant governor of North Carolina. I always want to give folks that are running for office a plug. Talk a little bit about that and how folks can help you out.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. So for us, we had some changes here. 2024 was a very rough election cycle. And just as an emergency physician, I saw some of the policies that were made over the past several years that have now had some negative impact on some of the young men and women here in North Carolina. As an emergency doctor, I’ve seen the anxiety, the depression, and the suicide. And I think we just need to change direction, have some better equipped leadership, some purpose-driven leadership. And This is what we’re about.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, and I like that message because you’re right. We need that. People need to understand, no matter where they come from, no matter their background, no matter what it is, they need to understand that they do have purpose. They can make a difference. I’ve said this for years, Dr. Josh. Everybody, whether you realize it or not, everybody has influence.
SPEAKER 04 :
And everybody matters. And what you bring to the table influences colleagues, friends, coworkers, all those people around you. It has a tremendous impact. And you need to just take pride in what you bring to the table and then get involved, engage your community. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 03 :
We appreciate you joining us today. Where do folks get the book?
SPEAKER 04 :
You can go. It’s on Amazon. It’s at Barnes & Noble. There’s an audio book, an e-book, and a paperback. And you can learn more at weightbehindthespear.com, W-E-I-G-H-T.
SPEAKER 03 :
Awesome. Dr. Josh, I appreciate it very much. Have a happy Father’s Day, by the way.
SPEAKER 04 :
You too.
SPEAKER 03 :
Thank you. I’ll do it. Thank you very much. I appreciate that. And, yeah, we didn’t have a lot of time this week to talk much about Father’s Day. I wanted to spend a little bit of time not only with him. I’ll come back and even mention a few more things. But for a lot of you guys that are out there listening, number one, you know, whether you’re a dad, whether you’re going to be a future dad, whether you’re a granddad and you’ve already been – by the way, you never quit being a dad. It doesn’t matter. You’re always helping your kids through life no matter what stage they’re at. So all of you that are dads, A, thank you. You guys have a tremendous load. I know that personally. You all have influence, whether you realize it or not. And I meant what I said when I talked to Josh. This is one of the complaints and probably why I never was a big fan and never watched a lot of the Bundys and so on. And I think for me personally, it’s because… A lot of those shows, while they’re funny and while they’re fun to watch and so on, I’m not against them. And if you watch them, that’s great. That’s up to you. I prefer not to because I personally don’t like the way a lot of those shows portray men. Because they really do portray men to be this bumbling knucklehead. And frankly, folks, I can go a long way back, all the way back to even Dick Van Dyke. Because look at that program and look at how Dick Van Dyke was portrayed in that particular program. Even in the opening scenes, he’s tripping over the edge of the whatever it was, sunken living room or whatever it happened to be. I mean, granted, I know it was comedy and all of that, but… You wonder at times, did we take that too far? You know, did it just continue to compound on itself? And now all of a sudden, that’s all dad is. He’s just this bumbling buffoon that doesn’t know, you know, which end is up. And if it wasn’t for mom and the family, you know, they wouldn’t be able to do anything. And I’m not taking anything away from moms. Moms do a lot. Our wives do a lot. Absolutely. They put up with us. I get that. But so do dads. Dads do a lot of things to keep the family moving forward, and I think at times dads don’t, A, get enough credit for that, and at times I don’t think they even realize how much influence they actually have when it’s all said and done. So my message to a lot of you that are dads right now, to all of you that are dads right now, is A, keep your chin up. Be proud that you’re a dad. Continue to pour influence into those that are around you, whether you’re at work, whether you’re at church, whether you’re at school, wherever you’re at, whatever you’re doing. Pour that influence among those that are around you, especially your own kids. Develop those relationships. Help them become great adults that will contribute to society. And at the end of the day, that’s how literally we make our world and our country successful. a better place. Roof Savers of Colorado coming up next. SPEAKER 06 :
The best export we have is Common Sense. You’re listening to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right, we are back. Thank you all for listening. I appreciate it very much. And real quick, I want to mention before we finish out the show that… You’re going to hear a lot about this between now and probably even early next week because you’re going to hear a lot of dialogue back and forth from both sides when it comes to the anti-ICE rallies that in a lot of cities are still going on. I think there was even one last night here in Denver still happening. I saw from the news today last night that some of the folks were even trying to walk down to I-25 and block it and so on. I saw a lot of the police activity that people had recorded and so on. day, and somebody even texted in and said, or messaged in and said, it’s amazing that they steal everything from, literally from history, because there was a time where people would say, no kings, just Christ. So it’s interesting that now we have a no kings day, but they’re talking about Trump, so… Yeah, they do. They steal things and regurgitate it because the no kings is not a new thing, by the way. And as I’ve said many, many times, you know, yeah, Trump’s about as far from a king as you’ll ever find. Those of you that are on the left that don’t understand what I just said, you really need to reevaluate and go in with an open mind and look at the different things that are happening and realize that. And this is another something else I should note. Go back for all of you that are on the left. that think Donald Trump is so bad when it comes to deportations. And tell me how many people, how many illegal immigrants Obama deported? Because it’s in the millions, by the way. And I’m not exaggerating when I say that. Go look and see how many he deported. Go look and see how many Joe Biden actually deported. There’s no news on that, by the way. And even we on our side thinks he didn’t deport anybody. Now, granted, he had a lot to deport because he had open borders. But go back and look at Obama. And I want to say it was over a million. And I don’t know what the exact number is today with Donald Trump, but I’m not sure we’ve even reached 200,000 yet. I think it’s still in about the mid 140, 150 range. So there’s all of this uproar going on about ICE and all of these mass deportations. And yet Trump’s been in office now for almost six months, not quite, but getting close to it. And we’re not even cracking 150,000. So think about that. If it’s 150,000, if he can even get to 300, and who knows if we will, and do that for four years, will he even reach a million? Honestly, I’ll be surprised if he does. He talks about all the millions we need to deport. I’ll be quite honest. I’ll be shocked if it’s that high of a number. And that’s me talking. I don’t know. But at the end of the day, you’ve got all these folks on the left that are running around, you know, anti-ice, anti-this, anti-that, no kings. Literally, these are people that are simply listening to a narrative. And I purposely have watched some of the men on the street interviewing some of these people at these raids, at these rallies, at these riots is what I meant to say. And Charlie and I were talking about this some yesterday. Reality is most of them have no idea why they’re there. They’re just there because they think they need to be there. What it really boils down to, the number one sentiment that comes out of these anti-ICE rallies that are happening as we speak right now is, I just hate Donald Trump. I don’t like the guy. And even the person interviewing will be nice and say, well, can you give me something specific you don’t like about him? I just don’t like him. Or they’ll say, you know, F Trump or, you know, they use nice, colorful four letter words. I’ve always noticed with the left, by the way, that when they can’t win the argument, the swear words come out. It literally I’m not exaggerating when I say that it’s just a swear words to start spewing out when they can’t come up with a really good answer as to why they don’t like Donald Trump. And even those around them will start raising up their middle fingers and this, that and the other. And the reality is it’s not it’s not it’s not true. It’s not what it’s not true what they’re saying. Three point one million. Thank you, Charlie. Over eight years. Obama, sorry, Obama deported three point one million. I will be shocked. I’m not I’m not exaggerating. I’ll be shocked if Trump matches that. out of his last four and these four. I’ll be surprised if he matches that. So just a side note, for all of you that are out there that are on the left that think that this is really a problem we have with ICE, we’re not even scratching the surface compared to what Obama did. during his tenure. And there’s even lots of video. It’s surfacing now, finally, because of everything happening right now, where Obama is really giving speeches, talking about how you come to this country illegally, you’re going to get deported. If you didn’t do this correctly, you’re going to get deported. I mean, on and on we go. He’s saying all the same things our side is saying right now. And Hillary, thank you. Hillary did the exact same thing when she was running for office. There’s even clips of Joe Biden saying the exact same thing. So the left for years and years and years stood on that. And now all of a sudden they reversed and Donald Trump’s the bad boogeyman because all the bad guys are getting deported. Not all, but some of the bad guys are getting deported. I mean, it’s just amazing to me that we have the amount of people out on the left saying what they’re saying. And again, all I can figure is it’s just this hatred of Trump, total misguidance on their part as to what they’re even doing. And they can’t support their position when when, you know, bluntly asked, you know, why are you doing this? They have no idea. Even going as far as having there is an ESPN star of late media mischaracterizing the anti-ice riots. In other words, she’s another one saying these are just isolated cases. They’re really not that much going on. This is Mina Kimes. She is from ESPN NFL, which, by the way, Mina, stick to football. Stick to what you evidently I think you know or you wouldn’t be an analyst, but stick to that. Stay out of politics. You’re a bozo. You don’t have the foggiest idea what you’re talking about. She’s basically saying that even these images of the burning vehicles that you’re seeing and the rioters spray painting cars and all of these things that are happening, she’s blaming that on old images, AI, all of this other generation stuff that’s going on. She’s not giving any credit to even the people that are out there, and in a lot of cases, risking their lives. Fox News has a great story on this, to where they’re literally listing the pictures, the date, who took them, and so on, She’s discrediting everything she’s saying. All right, I’ve got to run. All right, Kevin Flesch, where he will help you with anything legally speaking. Criminal, civil, he’s there to help you. 303-806-8886.
SPEAKER 18 :
Here’s why you need personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch on your side. He understands the way the jury thinks. In the context of a personal injury case, you’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. The idea is that you’re going to try to recover so that you can get back to where you were just prior to that incident occurring. What that really means from a jurist’s perspective is that you’re going to be asking them to award you money. So when we talk about fairness, we’re talking about six people that you don’t know. Those six people view the evidence and make a unanimous decision that will decide what the fair value is. When you’re the one who’s hurt, you have a good idea of what you think it’s worth. The question is, can you persuade those other individuals whom you don’t know and were witnesses to believe that’s what the case is worth? Kevin Flesch understands the way the jury thinks.
