This week on Drive Radio, it’s everything from sun protection to electrical chaos — and a few hard-earned lessons along the way.
A caller shares why adding high-performance window tint to his Subaru Ascent wasn’t just about comfort — it was about health. With long hours on the road and concerns about UV exposure, the investment paid off immediately. Reduced heat, less glare, and no issues with Subaru’s Eyesight system after installation. The takeaway? Sometimes “optional” upgrades are actually preventative maintenance.
Then things get technical.
A 2011 Silverado owner battles electrical gremlins after replacing an alternator — cycling door locks, fluctuating voltage,
SPEAKER 06 :
It’s a mighty fancy automobile. Oh, she’s a real road king, all right. Zero to 60 in 7.5. She’ll do a quarter mile, 13.40. 390 horsepower, 500 foot-pounds of torque.
SPEAKER 20 :
Whatever that is. Performance and image, that’s what it’s all about.
SPEAKER 15 :
There’s no such thing as a stupid question. This is Drive Radio. All of your automotive questions are just one phone call away. 303-477-5600. SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, we are back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560. Mark, how are you? Are you back with us?
SPEAKER 11 :
Good afternoon again.
SPEAKER 21 :
Mark from Wiggins, I meant to say. Okay, so we were talking about window tint, skin cancer, things like that. Yes, Mark, anything you can do, especially those of you that spend a lot of time in the road, on the road, I should say, a lot of windshield time, I call it. Yeah, Mark, I would say that to reduce some of those potentials, by all means, yes, I think that’s a great comment and something people should look at.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, and my wife, she’s a frugal type of person that, you know, if there’s something that you’re trying to upgrade or add, and especially when it comes to the car, she thinks, you know, if we don’t need it, we don’t need it.
SPEAKER 12 :
Right.
SPEAKER 11 :
And for years I’ve been like, you know, it’s so nice getting in my vehicle with that, you know, full surrounded, you know, legal to the most part except for the one front, but It makes a huge difference. And so, you know, I thought she had several family members just recently that were diagnosed with multiple different cancers, you know, skin cancer and other types of cancer. And I thought, you know, in listening to you and Dr. Kelly during the week about preventative things rather than, you know, like getting inoculations, why not spend some money, you know, $500 for my health You know, to some people that might seem a lot. You know, you’ve got a guy that does blood testing for like $600 or $800. So $500 for health is really not anything to throw a stick at. Yeah, it may not fit into the budget, but some people have to weigh the options. Do you want cancer and health problems, or do you want to try to do something that’s within your control that you can do that can positively influence a better health? And so I had to kind of – and I’m not going to say, like, you know, lied or anything like that. But I had to make an appointment, you know, and not tell her right away. And then be like, hey, I got to go do some things with your car, you know. And she was cool with that because it gets a little better gas mileage and got it done. And so when I got back home and she saw it, she’s like, whoa, what did you do to my car? I’m like – You notice instantly, and she’s like, yeah, well, yeah. You know, it’s not clear on the side anymore. So it’s got the 30, so it’s legal on the side. And she initially kind of balked at it, like, why do you have to do that? And I’m like, you know what? Is your health worth it? Go drive it in a sunny day, and then tell me. And so the very next day, she goes all the way to Greeley, does some errands. And while she’s driving around, I get a text. Tent’s awesome. Thank you.
SPEAKER 12 :
There you go.
SPEAKER 11 :
And so it’s an ascent. And the other reason why I wanted to call in is this is an ascent, which has the eyesight system, the older system, where the cameras are, I don’t know, one to two inches back from the windshield. So I had a big concern that that was going to negatively impact the cruise control system. And, you know, the guy said, you know, we do these all the time. Um, it’s, it’s not going to notice the difference, but if any errors happen, just take it to a window shop and they can do a recalibration and it’ll be fine. Well, I didn’t have to do any of that because, and I’d like to put a plug out there. Greeley auto spa did a tremendous job and you can’t even tell it’s on there. Honestly, I’m seeing, you know, the streaks from the washer fluid, the bugs, the streaks from the, you know, the way I see that. But as far as there anything being on the windshield itself, you wouldn’t know. You wouldn’t know it’s even there. But I’m sitting in it right now with the sun just blasting the vehicle, and it 100% is different than it was a week ago when it was clear, you know, and nothing was stopping that heat from coming through. And, you know, we did pay the extra for the, I guess, a.k.a., air quotes, high-performance stuff. to eliminate that heat, and I don’t feel like my arms are burning. I don’t feel like my face is burning. You know, and for weeks now, with the angle of the sun, I feel like my arms have been getting cooked.
SPEAKER 21 :
No, that’s a huge difference, Mark. Everything you’re saying is spot on. It’s not something we really talk much about, but you’re right on the money.
SPEAKER 11 :
It’s a big difference. And like you guys and Deece were talking about at night with the night glare, it helps. It helps. I have astigmatism. It makes a difference. And, you know, some of these vehicles, like these pickup trucks, have these, like, laser beam military grade lights on them you’ve got here in the country. They do. You’re right. It’s difficult. But, you know, you do what you’ve got to do. And at the end of the day, is $500 worth safety in my mind to protect me? Absolutely.
SPEAKER 21 :
Great comments. Mark, great comments. Appreciate that very much. I’ll let you go. Mark and Littleton, you’re next. Go ahead. Yeah, good morning. Good morning.
SPEAKER 08 :
I got a problem with my 2011 Silverado Chevy pickup. I’ve owned it since new. It’s never given me cause to worry about it. Now I’m dealing with electrical gremlins in it. I’m driving from Colorado Springs back to Littleton. All of a sudden, just as I was getting on I-25 in Springs, locks started cycling. and lights on the dash and everything, and so I kind of kept coming, got in the right lane just in case I died totally. Got to Castle Rock. I stopped at a shop there that I’d known the guy who was on the shop for probably a decade and a half. He used to work on my car and notes in when he was here. And we put him, figured out he was an alternator. Went ahead and changed the alternator, picked it up from the shop a couple of days later, and On the way back to Littleton, Sedalia started doing the same thing again. Yeah. And got it back to his shop. And, of course, the funny thing was the voltage would drop. I’d pull over to the side of the road, turn it off, turn it on again. The voltage would be right back up over 14 volts. So I took it down to his shop, kind of drove it around there. Couldn’t get it to do that again. So I said, well, let me go ahead and try. Well, the first time we took it back after the alternator, he kept it a few days. He said, it looks like a ground problem. They tightened up some grounds, checked some other things. I picked it up. The second time I drove back to Littleton, got it all the way to within a couple of miles of our home, and the voltage dropped again. And I was close enough. I didn’t wait to see if the locks and all that would cycle. They did not. But now when I turn it on, Within about three or four minutes, the voltage drops below 14, and I shut it down before everything else goes crazy on it. And before I deal with taking it back to the shop, I told him I was going to play with it a little bit. My son’s coming over today. He’s got a multimeter. We’re going to check resistance, kind of check all the grounds. Yesterday, before my son came over, I just wanted to make sure from square one, I disconnected both battery terminals, made sure everything was really cleaned up, and reconnected it. And, of course, it still does the same thing. I’m just wondering if I’m sure electrical gremlins are just a pain. If you have any insight, what would be the first thing you would check?
SPEAKER 21 :
On that particular vehicle, I’d be looking at the body control module. That would be the first thing I would have looked at.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. And the one thing, well, if it’s a body control module, if, If we’ve got a bad ground, if you change that, it’s still not going to change it, right?
SPEAKER 21 :
No, and, I mean, is it possible you’ve got a bad ground? Sure. I mean, it’s always the one thing on any electrical issue we’re working on. We want to make sure we’ve got good connection, positive, negative, all that. We don’t have bad battery cables and terminals and grounds and all of that. So, yes, of course, all of that needs to be looked at. If all of that is good, which it sounds like, Mark, in your case, it is, then, yeah, I would be going after… Not saying the alternator wasn’t bad. I wasn’t there. I don’t know. I don’t know what it was putting out at the time. I have no clue. But I would have probably attacked the BCM before I did much of anything else. And that’s where you’ve got to get a scan tool into it, find out exactly what it’s doing and so on.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, and I’m not too worried, too upset about that. I’ve got 108,000 miles in the truck. So, you know, if I put a new alternator on, I didn’t really have to. At least I got peace of mind. Correct. Correct. I mean, this car, I still have the original brakes on it. I’ve never had to do a brake job. That’s the kind of driver.
SPEAKER 21 :
And really quick, what else? I mean, the door locks are cycling. What else? I don’t know that I caught the rest of it. What else is cycling when it does this, Mark?
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, you get the flex, the bell track sensor would pop up on and the different sensors on the dash. And I noticed on the way to the springs that I tune in, you know, I listen to the radio here and I’ve got a station and two down there. I’ve got I had grandchildren in the spring, so that’s kind of my route these days. You know, every so often I can hear the radio dim a little bit. I thought, well, I’ve never heard that before. And that was on the way down. And then on the way back when that happened, I thought, oh, maybe there’s an alternator going out. So it was kind of giving me signs on the way there.
SPEAKER 21 :
And just as a side note, when’s the last time you did a battery?
SPEAKER 08 :
The battery’s about a year and a half old. In fact, the gentleman that put the… alternator on it he installed the battery for me just before okay uh left uh little 10 to go down to uh So we know the battery’s good, and if it’s not, it’s under warranty.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, so battery’s probably not an issue. Again, I think for me, I’d be zeroing in on the body control module. You’re on the right track checking all the rest of the stuff that you’ve already gone through and done, and that’s a very known problem on those vehicles, some of the gremlins that can be created by the body control module. That’d be the next thing I’d be looking at.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, because, you know, of course, now with the Internet, you sit here and it’s like, it’s like doctor this hurts you go to the internet look it up before you talk to the doctor and body control module is one of the things i looked at is that a difficult thing for to change or should i just has to be programmed so you can buy the module and it has to be programmed to the vehicle okay so i’d want to take a vaccine for that
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah, as long as he’s got the software, you know, the scan tool that can upload the software so that everything is there. Now, he also could just try, and I would probably do this initially, try to see if there’s any updates to the BCM right now and just do an update to it and see if that does anything.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 21 :
Before doing anything else.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Well, he’s been in the business a long time. I trust him assuredly. He’s already done that, but that was the BCM module. It was one of the things I looked that could cause the problem.
SPEAKER 21 :
Could.
SPEAKER 08 :
Of course, my son’s Mr. Internet. He says, Dad, we can change that, but if there’s a ground that’s bad, it’s not going to fix it.
SPEAKER 21 :
No. And he’s right on that. And the BCM, yes, you could change it. Just remember, you’ve got to be able to program it as well.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. Well, I’ll take it back, Jim. I guess on the one vehicle that I bought that I really regret, a 1980 Ford Mustang. Hmm. Four-cylinder engine, standard condition. It hated me, and I got rid of it. I said I’d never buy another Ford again, and I have not.
SPEAKER 21 :
Wow. Wow. Sticking to your guns. Yeah. Well, thank you very much for your answer. No, Mark, thank you as always. I appreciate it very much. Thanks for the call. Mark in Denver on BG. Hang tight. We’ll come back and get your call in a moment. A couple lines open, 303-477-5600. Drive Radio, KLZ 560.

All right, and we are back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560, thanks for joining us today. I appreciate it. Mark in Denver, you’re next.
SPEAKER 09 :
Boy, the trifecta of marks today. Can you believe that?
SPEAKER 21 :
I know. Unreal.
SPEAKER 09 :
That was a sugar-by-lotto ticket.
SPEAKER 21 :
Mark, Mark, Mark.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yep. So this BG44K, I’m in the ball book and verbal right now at the top down.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
That stuff’s remarkable. I did it back-to-back tanks. I don’t have any stumbling or starting problems anymore.
SPEAKER 21 :
Nice.
SPEAKER 09 :
Let me ask you a question. Is there a check ball valve or a check ball in the fuel pump?
SPEAKER 21 :
Probably is on that car, yes.
SPEAKER 09 :
And so explain to me how that works, please.
SPEAKER 21 :
It doesn’t allow fuel to come back out. It keeps it pressurized so that it’s keeping the system up so that when you go to restart the car, you’re not having to have the fuel pump do extra work.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay, so that BG part would be beneficial for that?
SPEAKER 21 :
No, for anything the fuel touches, absolutely.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay, well, that solved that problem. Your earlier program, I thought you were in my living room today telling me to get rid of stuff. I just, I stood there like a dog, like the RCA dog, just listened to every word you said. I said, I need a coach like you to help me off the cliff to get rid of stuff. It’s hard.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, it can be. And again, going through everything I’ve done with my folks over the last couple of years, Mark, yeah, it actually can be. Although I’m learning that, you know, I get rid of stuff and I really don’t notice, you know, I don’t really notice anything bad about getting rid of the stuff other than there’s less crap around.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, I got a pretty extensive gun collection. That’s the problem. My wife signed me to get rid of that. No, no, those are different.
SPEAKER 21 :
Those are different.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, can I say that to my wife? John said those are different.
SPEAKER 21 :
Those are different, because those are like a valuable asset that just go up over time.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, they’ve gone up significantly. In fact, I’ll never be able to get them back because I won’t be able to afford them again.
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, and that’s why I say those are different because those are items that are not, that’s not a depreciating asset, as you know.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right, right.
SPEAKER 21 :
Those are, in fact, an appreciating asset.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, I guess I’m going to have to hire you as a counselor to sit down with her and say, no, this guy’s making your money. She says, well, we should sell it now. You’re making a lot of money on these.
SPEAKER 03 :
As a wife, you have to start with the smaller stuff.
SPEAKER 09 :
There you go. I didn’t hear that.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, start with everything else that you don’t really have so much attachment for, and then just start building up. That way she can see that you’re actually, you know, making a change.
SPEAKER 21 :
There you go. Baby steps, Mark. Baby steps.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes. Play the con job is what you’re talking about.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah, just do the little stuff first. Get started.
SPEAKER 09 :
So I’m doing something that my biggest regret was this trailer I bought. Because I didn’t have enough vehicle, the 5.3 liter towel. It’s okay, not enough. But I’m solving that problem. I’m bringing a trailer right now. It’s got three days to go, and it’s got no reserve on it. Once it’s gone, it’s gone, and I’m done with it.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah, can’t blame you.
SPEAKER 09 :
It was a big mistake. I should have hired a carrier and flown to the location with a Porsche instead of trying to drive it. I mean, it would have been a lot easier and relaxing.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes, you know, it’s those second guesses, though, that get us.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, you know what? Financially, I’m probably going to take a bit of a bath on this, but I don’t really care. Because like you said, once it’s gone, you just wipe your hands and move on.
SPEAKER 21 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah. I hear you. So I’m going to tell her when I see her today, it’s different.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. There you go. It’s different.
SPEAKER 09 :
That’s going to solve the problem.
SPEAKER 21 :
There you go, Mark.
SPEAKER 09 :
All right.
SPEAKER 21 :
You’re the man, Mark. Appreciate you very much. Dennis is next. Go ahead, Dennis.
SPEAKER 10 :
Hey, John. Hey, man. If anybody hasn’t heard, Israel and U.S. went after Iran this morning.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yep. Yeah, saw that first thing.
SPEAKER 10 :
So your question of the day would be any one of the three vehicles that I have or have had with a bow tie on the grill.
SPEAKER 21 :
All your Chevys. Yep. All righty. You’re like our last call with Fords.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, I’ve got a Ford sitting in the shop that is appreciating as we speak.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yep. Yep. Well, like the guns I was just talking to Mark about.
SPEAKER 10 :
Exactly. And that’s why I’m calling 2005 Chevy Tahoe. I’ve noticed lately that the driver’s door switch isn’t operating properly. Okay. And I don’t see any pins sticking out like in the old days. No. And I’m wondering where that sensor.
SPEAKER 21 :
It’s all built into the door latch.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, that’s a wonderful design.
SPEAKER 21 :
And almost every car today is that way. They’ve incorporated that into everything. So that’s not a Chevy uniqueness. That’s every car out there is doing that now.
SPEAKER 10 :
Interesting. So what do you have to do? Replace the door latch?
SPEAKER 21 :
The latch, yeah. If you’re getting a problem with, you know, false readings on the latch itself and there’s different vehicles use the latches in different ways. But, yeah, if you’re having any issues at all, you put a latch in.
SPEAKER 10 :
And is that difficult? You’ve got to take the door panel off? Door panel off.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah, got to pull the panel.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 21 :
Then there’s like three or four screws and not too bad.
SPEAKER 10 :
and they probably don’t come color coordinated. You have to have them painted, right?
SPEAKER 21 :
Well, that’s on the inside, so no, all you’re seeing, no, they’re all one. They’re not color. Yeah, there’s no color to them. I’m not sure I’m saying that right, but there’s no color to them.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, so it’s a part that just sticks on the inside of the door. It’s not the handle itself.
SPEAKER 21 :
No, that’s exactly right. You’re correct.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay. All right.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, I’ll have to see. They’re not hard to change.
SPEAKER 21 :
They’re not bad. And you should be able to buy that at Napa, I would believe.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah, because those parts are getting hard to find from Chevy.
SPEAKER 21 :
They’re getting harder. You’re exactly right. Yes. As they age, you’re exactly right. That car is now, as you know, 21 years old.
SPEAKER 10 :
It is. It is.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yep. Okay. You’re on the right track, Dennis. That’s how you do it. I appreciate that very much. Let’s go to Linda. Linda, you’re next.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, hi, John. I just have a question. I have a Mazda 3 that’s a 2010. It’s actually the best car I’ve ever had. I’ve had a lot of different vehicles. It starts every time I push the button. Well, I’m having a little issue with I had a slight hesitation from taking off. And so I went in and I got an induction service. And that did clear the problem. It go, go, goes now. But now I’m stuck with a check engine life. Okay. Yeah, it could be the O2 sensor’s not reading correctly. It’s what it sounds like, yes. Yeah, I’m not getting any burning smell or anything weird. I don’t hear any rattling. And so one independent shop said, well, why don’t we just swap out your O2 sensors and see if that works? My issue is it’s not passing emissions. Other than that, it’s a gem.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, I have a shop you can take me to. There’s two locations. They’re probably going to be sponsors of ours in the not-too-distant future. Honest Accurate Auto. There’s two locations down there. I went and met with those guys a few weeks ago. Solid. They will help you.
SPEAKER 05 :
Honest Accurate Auto. Oh, my gosh. You’re a blessing, John.
SPEAKER 21 :
Thanks. Let them know that you were listening to me and that I told you to go there, and they’ll take care of you, Linda.
SPEAKER 05 :
I will. I’ve had it for 10 years. I only have 60,000 miles. Oh, they’ll take care of you then. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 21 :
There you go.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. Thank you, John.
SPEAKER 21 :
You betcha, Linda. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. All right, we’ll take a break. Chris, hang tight. We’ve got two lines open, 303-477-5600. Drive Radio, KLZ 560.

SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, we are back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560. Thanks for joining us. Chris and Centennial, you’re next.
SPEAKER 07 :
Hey, Dika. Hey. I want to give a shout-out for the way my truck cleans now. Nice.
SPEAKER 21 :
It’s night and day difference, Chris, isn’t it?
SPEAKER 07 :
It is. Fortunately, I haven’t had to do too much washing this winter, but it makes a huge difference.
SPEAKER 21 :
It really does. And Chris, it’s one of those things too, as I was talking earlier, until you experience it, it’s hard to explain. Yep.
SPEAKER 07 :
And I got a question regarding my front windshield tinting slash UV protection you put on it.
SPEAKER 03 :
What’s that?
SPEAKER 07 :
Can I wash that with just regular spray away? Or can I use an Adams product that’s like a
SPEAKER 03 :
As long as you’re not using anything with ammonia, you should be fine.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. Right. Yeah, so we use Spray-A-Way glass cleaner. It’s the best. Okay. I do have that.
SPEAKER 21 :
I think it’s the best. I’ve used it forever. And there’s no ammonia. It works great on tint, all that.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. And what you put on my windshield, is that tinted as well in the UV?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes. So we did the 70% on yours. Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right. I wasn’t sure.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right. And would you guarantee my PPF on my front license plate? Yes.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. How’s that holding up?
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, it’s holding up fine. But when I bring it in in October, we’ll have to check it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, and I’m going to see you this Wednesday?
SPEAKER 07 :
Wednesday.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. Wednesday, yes. Yeah, I’ll see you then. Are you back from your trip?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep. No, I’m actually driving I-80 right now, coming home.
SPEAKER 03 :
Nice.
SPEAKER 07 :
And I’m getting 27, 28 miles an hour. That’s so awesome.
SPEAKER 21 :
Good for you, Chris. That’s awesome.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep. It’s wonderful.
SPEAKER 21 :
That’s awesome. Good to hear. All right. Good job, Chris. Appreciate you, man. No, that is awesome. I had from the Fix It show earlier, Fix It Radio, we talked about getting rid of things and so on. I just got a message. In the past two hours, we went through our closet and probably got rid of over 100 shirts, just dropped five bags off to the Salvation Army.
SPEAKER 03 :
Nice.
SPEAKER 21 :
So there you go. Again, we were talking about that in Fix It Radio, how to basically parse things back and get rid of things. I did not finish that with Fix It Radio today. So for those of you listening and want to listen in next week, I’ll kind of do a part two because we only got to a very small portion of what we wanted to cover. So we’ll cover more of that next Saturday morning as well. John and Centennial, you’re next.
SPEAKER 06 :
Hi, I was in Napa store the other day. They were real busy, so I didn’t want to take the time to talk to them. But I noticed the BG products, they had the regular BG and they had one for hybrid cars. I was wondering, it kind of surprised me. What’s the difference?
SPEAKER 21 :
The hybrid cars, because of the way that they do their start-stop, and it’s more of a single RPM than it is revving through the cycle, they do different products for hybrid cars just because of that.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. Okay, I will give it a try. That was the first time I’d seen it.
SPEAKER 21 :
Yeah, they make a hybrid version on all of that for that reason, John.
SPEAKER 06 :
Fantastic. Thank you very much. Appreciate your help.
SPEAKER 21 :
No, John, you are very welcome. And again, by the way, thank you for all of the text messages. Get them throughout the entire show, and we’re getting to the point where we get more of them than I do, really, than we do as far as phone calls go, so thank you. And somebody also said that while a lot of people have really good luck with Toyota and Honda, this particular listener said, Did not. Again, everybody’s different when it comes to that and what you have good luck with and what you don’t have good luck with. And by the way, I don’t think it’s anything to do with, you know, owner or it could be just that product and that particular timing or the type of product you bought. I mean, all vehicles are made by men. Yeah, robots are involved, but still men are making the product. So at the end of the day, can there be problems with any vehicle? Yeah, of course there can be. There’s no perfect vehicle. I mean, you’re going to run into problems on pretty much any vehicle that you own. It’s why there’s repair shops and you do maintenance and all the other things that are out there. It’s just the way things work. Okay, one thing we didn’t talk about today. Deets that we should is we covered ceramic coating and PPF and even window tinting. Now, paintless dent removal, which a lot of folks maybe are familiar with the technique, maybe not. And for those of you listening, it started years and years ago. And it was a way for really insurance companies to save money on dents on cars by not having to paint panels. And by the way, you kept the original finish there by doing paintless dent removal and not cracking, quote unquote, the surface of paint. that paint which was in my opinion a really good thing now what i will tell you is in the two to three decades that it’s been around, so it’s been around at least 20 years, if not longer, it has become much, and I mean much more sophisticated in what they can do now than what they could even do five years ago. In other words, the tools and the techniques continue to improve to the point where I have seen dents taken out in places where I didn’t think it was ever possible, but yet it is.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, if the dent is accessible, if the steel is not overly stretched, if the paint’s not cracked, it can probably be PDR’d.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. Real quick, news coming in. I know it’s drive radio, but there is a war going on as we speak with Iran. Not war, but some battles, let’s say it that way. Iran’s supreme leader, the Ayatollah, has been killed in an Israeli airstrike this morning, his body being found recently among the rubble. Israeli officials are telling the Times of Israel. So we’ll see how things go in Iran, but my gut feeling is it won’t last very long, given that so sorry i had to just slip that in really quick just because that’s sort of breaking news and no we’re not a news station but if you’re listening to a replay on sunday this is saturday the 28th but just a little bit of update there uh as well but back to the whole not breaking the surface here i’m i’m a person and i kind of believe this on most products whether it’s the roof on your house to the paint on your car if you don’t have to break what’s already been there and you’re better off doing whatever you can not to. So RoofMax, for example, they make a product, Dave Hart, Roof Savers of Colorado, where the RoofMax product is a treatment for your roof where you can leave the shingles on your roof much longer than you would be normally, meaning you’re not putting new shingles on. I look at that the same way I do the paint on the car. If I cannot have to mess with that and I can make what’s there last longer, I should because nothing, in my opinion, nothing’s better than that first time it was put on.
SPEAKER 03 :
Exactly, because you’re not messing with other things.
SPEAKER 21 :
Thank you. There’s all the other things that come into play, especially with paint on a car, from how do you get the door jams to look correct after you do some paint, and is everything going to blend together if you’re just spot painting a panel, and, and, and, and, and. I mean, there’s so many things that come into play, and maybe me being in the industry, I know more about that than most, but I’ve always been one from the time I was a kid. If you don’t have to break the surface of the paint, don’t. Even if it meant, okay, let’s just touch this up and leave it, versus painting a panel as long as it wasn’t so bad it just made everything so ugly and now by the way with this is another example even with ppf you could find you’d have a panel let me make sure i explain this guy or maybe you get a door ding and maybe it did scratch the paint ever so slightly it’s down to where it’s even to the metal of the door itself you can pdr the dent still get that out you could touch up the actual spot that the door ding was on and do a really good job of touching it up, PPF the entire door and ceramic coat that when you’re done and your chances of seeing that spot are going to be very minimal.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. Right? I mean, you would know. I’ve done it.
SPEAKER 21 :
So my point is for some of you where you’re really particular like I am, but you don’t want to paint an entire panel for a door ding that maybe did actually damage the paint so slightly. There is a fix for that without painting the whole panel. And again, keeping the rest of that surface on that door intact from the factory and not having to have, you know, aftermarket paint when it’s all said and done. There’s ways you guys can fix that and make that happen.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. So usually, like, you know, the Tesla customer that I talked about that came back and he had rock ships already. We did a few touch ups on it. We did the clear brown top and you’re good to go. If you know they’re there, you’re going to know they’re there. But for anybody else, you won’t even notice.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay, so those of you listening, yes, there are ways to fix some of those types of issues that come up without having to do a complete panel paint and blending and all of that. So keep that in mind when it comes to some of those things. All right, got another segment left. Don’t go anywhere. Get the calls in. We’ve got 15 minutes left. Drive Radio, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 20 :
Something really cool happened in 1975. And no, it wasn’t the beginning of the disco era. Congress passed the Magnuson-Moss Act. You don’t have to take your vehicle back to your dealer to keep your vehicle manufacturer’s warranty in effect. Our Napa Auto Care Center uses the proper replacement parts and procedures to keep that warranty valid. Visit our independently owned Napa Auto Care Center today. Find a store at NapaOnline.com.
SPEAKER 04 :
You listen to Drive Radio because you have a lot of questions about your car. You have questions about what kind of oil to use, what the best tires are, where to get the best parts. But have you ever asked what will happen to your car after you die? Did you know that if you don’t have a will that specifically states what will happen, a probate judge will order your family to split your car evenly. And because you can’t cut up a car into pieces, your family will be forced to sell it and just split the money. According to Michael Bailey, the mobile estate planner, it is estimated that two out of three people don’t have a proper will in place. And oftentimes, things like your favorite classic car are accidentally forgotten completely. Michael understands that the only way to be absolutely certain that all of your final wishes will be honored is to take a small amount of time to talk about it. 720-394-6887 720-394-6887 Call Michael Bailey, the mobile estate planner, right now to set up a free consultation and make absolutely sure that you don’t leave anything to chance.

SPEAKER 21 :
All right, we are back. Mmm. Drive Radio, KLZ 560. Thanks for tuning in. We appreciate it very much. And I was just talking to Dietz a moment ago where there’s been some technology on the outside of the windshield, windshield protection. And we’ve talked to even Kent and Judy in Nova’s Auto Glass and all about that. And the reality is, for a lot of you that are listening, technology still isn’t quite there yet. It’s progressing, although, and Dietz and I were just talking, our issue here in Colorado is different climate, different weather, different things that get attracted to the windshield itself. And the technology of the windshield protection, the actual material that they’re using just still isn’t perfected quite yet.
SPEAKER 03 :
No, not really. Not for people like us here in Colorado.
SPEAKER 21 :
They’re working on it, but it’s just not there yet.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, you still get way too many scratches every time it rains pretty much.
SPEAKER 21 :
Windshield wipers start wiping and anything along those lines. So, yeah, reality is, no, we’re not there quite yet where that’s really there. So for those of you listening, and I… I’ve also been getting several messages from folks that – and this is not to slam Toyota, but Toyota has a big following, and they build a good car. Nothing wrong with their cars at all. But are their cars perfect? Of course not. There’s no such thing. And I’m getting several messages from folks talking about how they either know Toyota-only repair shops or dealerships or whatever, and – Reality is, yes, they still fix cars too, folks. And they do. They have technicians. And it’s not all just, you know, maintenance work. They’re doing warranty work. They’re doing repairs. They’re doing other things. So, yes, Toyotas are good. And, yes, they’ve made a good name for themselves. Is it the only, you know, car made? No, it is not. It’s just, it’s mechanical.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. My RAV4 had a recall a few years ago. Had to take it back.
SPEAKER 21 :
They all, yeah, let’s just say this. It’s a mechanical device, mechanical car. It’s a machine. It’s made by men. And I don’t care what nameplate’s on the front of it. And this is, I think, true across the board. Some of you can have trouble with a brand, and you never want to buy that brand again. Understandably so. I get that. On the same token, some of you have really great luck with a particular brand and you won’t buy anything else. And, you know, good for you. I mean, it really does come down to you and what you’re comfortable with. And what I’ve said in today’s world when it comes to buying cars, new or used. Used is a completely different conversation. You want to know who’s owned the car before, how well has it been maintained. Lots of factors come into play. On the new side, in my opinion, it really comes down to do you have a really good servicing dealer? that you know and trust and you can work with and you know you’re going to get things fixed with, warranty-wise and so on. And then on top of that, how well does that vehicle work and fit you? Because everybody’s different. Some people fit into certain vehicles really, really well, and other people would struggle to fit in and drive that same vehicle. So I’ve gotten to the point anymore where it’s not so much the nameplate on the car as, does the car have everything I want? Does it meet my needs? Do I fit in it and do I feel comfortable driving it? How do I feel with even my arm length when it comes to reaching certain controls and so on? For example, back in the day, Toyota Tundras had a center stack, had a control system in the middle of the dash for the truck itself, and it was such a long reach that if you were a little bit short-armed… you had a hard time adjusting things because you had to be six foot tall with a long arm just to be able to adjust the controls and such. And that’s what I mean by how well do you fit in the vehicle and how comfortable do you feel because there’s nothing worse than driving a vehicle you don’t feel comfortable in.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 21 :
So I’m one where anymore it comes more down to the fact of how well do you feel and do you fit into the vehicle itself more so than anything else. That’s what it boils down to. I agree. If you fit into it really well and you like the vehicle and you’ve got a great servicing dealer that you feel confident that will take care of you on down the road, especially when it comes to standing behind on the warranty and so on, because, again, That car may never have a problem or it may have a few problems. Is the dealership going to be there to help and stand behind what’s going on? In other words, do you have a relationship with them or do you know about them and so on? And to me, that’s more important than a lot of the other factors that folks look at. I am not a dyed-in-the-wool Chevy, Ford, Toyota. I’m not that guy. Now, at one time, I was probably a little bit more that way. When I was younger, I was pretty much a GM guy. Am I a GM guy now? No, I own all sorts of different cars. I mean, I run the gamut. Dietz is laughing because she knows. I mean, I run the gamut of cars that I own. I am not a fanboy of one particular brand of vehicle. I will do whatever I feel works best for whatever I want to do with that vehicle. And I think that’s the problem that some people get into is they get kind of pigeonholed into, well, I’ve only ever bought Ford or I’ve only ever bought Toyota or I’ve only ever bought Honda. And you kind of forget that there’s other brands out there that might even have a better product than what you’re used to. And maybe they don’t. Maybe what you’re driving is great. But don’t knock some of the other vehicles until you try them, I guess is what I’m trying to say. And I’m also a big one. I know I’ve done complete episodes on this. And by the way, the extra mile today will be a replay because I wasn’t here this past week to record one. Next week, I’m going to talk about how to not get scammed. And that’s across the board, from dealership experiences to buying and selling of auto parts, even maybe online, to other things that I’ll throw into that. So I’m going to record it this week, but I’ll do it for next week’s Extra Mile on how to not get scammed. And I’m going to say this really quick, too, when it comes to the Extra Mile. If there’s particular things that you would like me to cover… extensively in the extra mile, then by all means, let me know. I’ve done them so far on buying cars, selling cars, used cars, new cars, leasing, auto parts itself. I mean, you name it. I’ve kind of gone through the gamut of things. The cost of repair, why is it expensive, and so on. And if there’s any particular thing you’d like me to go spend… almost an hour it’s not quite an hour it’s about 54 minutes but if you’d like me to spend some in-depth time on a particular topic well just send me a message text or email and i will do my best to work that in and i’ve already got kind of a list of topics i keep chipping away at but i i mean i’ll take your suggestions the more the merrier and then on top of that Let me throw this out to you as well. If there’s a particular person or company or somebody that you think that would be a good fit for us that I should do a little interview with and have a discussion with, I can also squeeze that in and make that happen as well. So those of you that might have a little in on that or you might know somebody that, hey, this would be a good interview. You know what? If you’ve got an in, somebody that you think would be a good fit for us and I can make that work, I will do my best to make that happen. happen as well but protech auto shield roy and deetsa deets has been with me today and again the things that they do just make sure you guys all know full detailing ceramic coating paint protection film pdr so they can do the paintless tint removal window tint and what i miss vinyl wraps oh and wraps oh you know we didn’t talk much about wraps we’ve got about a minute left so what do you want to add on wraps You can design anything.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, we can design anything commercial. Um, if you want to do a color change, we can do that too.
SPEAKER 21 :
I saw somebody with a – I was watching a video the other night where somebody had a black ZR2, a new Chevy pickup truck, that they were wrapping in. It was really a pretty cool goldish-orangish color that they don’t make from the factory. And I was watching that get wrapped, and I’m like, well, that looks pretty slick, actually. Because wraps come in all – for all of you listening – different colors and textures and finishes and so on. It’s almost like the list is endless. Yeah.
SPEAKER 03 :
I want to buy a Jeep and make it pink.
SPEAKER 21 :
Okay. So, again, you can change colors. You can put your company’s name on it, logo, full design. ProTech will do all of that for you. Give them your phone number one more time. I’m sorry. I know you have to look it up. I apologize. I should have written it down earlier.
SPEAKER 03 :
It is 720-832, sorry, 382-8481. All right.
SPEAKER 21 :
