And we’re going to continue to talk about what we started last week, which is really, you know, how to be aware, what to do in the case of any type of a, you know, shooting event, something along those lines. You know, how do you handle things? We really went over some of the basics last week, and I wanted to get into more detail this week. But thanks. And by the way, where are you at today? on uh barndo and edu so nice we’re out here doing all right so so uh the big town of rama well you sound good so you know cell service must be great and all of that so you know question for you i had a few comments on last week’s program and a few little additions and things that folks wanted us to potentially talk about today did you hear from anybody at all on that
SPEAKER 11 :
I haven’t heard anything. I did go back and kind of review more of the footage of the attacks that you had mentioned briefly. And, you know, I mean, obviously I’ve got comments on those. And, you know, that’s about as far as it’s gone with that. But, you know, it always goes back to, you know, I do have an interesting thought, though, that if I could share real quick. Sure, go right ahead. You know, it is interesting because we’ve got a gun class tomorrow for concealed carry. which if you don’t have your concealed carry, you need a class now according to the new Colorado law as of July 1st. And so we’re offering that. But I have noticed a trend. And talking to my fellow gun instructors and kind of people in the, I know our favorite word, the prepping world and sustainability, self-sufficiency world, and there has been a dramatic loss of interest in these areas recently. ever since Trump was elected. And it kind of seems like there is this kind of relaxation of people going, oh, okay. You know, when the Democrats were in charge there, I couldn’t have enough classes. And now it’s like I’m really struggling getting people in. And I think people have just taken that kind of approach of, hey, everything’s okay now. And, you know, you’ve got to be careful of putting your hope in one particular person that is only one part of a system. And, you know, here’s one thing with all these news things, and it comes out with, you know, a shooting or a stabbing, and, you know, everybody instantly goes to the, not everybody, but that side goes to the gun control thing, and this argument kind of recirculates over and over and over and over again, and Here’s what the government wants to do, John. It wants to keep the populace divided. And the more equally divided we are, meaning 50% Democrat, 50% Republican, that’s perfect for them because then they have absolute control because there’s no balance or there’s total balance. There’s no offsetting of one or the other. And they do that, you know, the fear of, hey, this is going on, this is going on, that’s happening, they’re going to do this, they’re going to do that, just keeps us in that balanced state. You notice when the topics go away or when something happens, everything goes radio silent. And the more people get, you know, even in opposition, the more they speak about it in opposition, the more likely it is to do the opposite effect than what they’re looking for. And It just keeps everybody in that perfect balance. And when the people are equally divided, the government is in total control. They’re in total control because all they have to do is like, oh, it’s the other side’s fault. And the other side goes, oh, it’s their fault. And nothing gets done.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yep. And I noticed that, in fact, I think I read this just a few days ago, to back up what you’re saying, gun sales have plummeted. In 2024, they bought 15.3 million guns, down from a record 21.8 in 2020. Gun sales, looks like for this year so far, are off about… Thirty-six percent, and don’t quote me on that because I’m trying to read this and talk at exactly the same time. Bottom line, and I may be off on the 36, so nobody hold me to that. Bottom line, they’re down significantly. Well, actually, I’ve got it right here. Gun sales fell 17 percent during the first three years of his first term, and the same thing is happening again right now. So across the country, they are down significantly, proving what you just said a moment ago, Bill.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, everybody takes that sigh of relief, and, you know, hey, it’s a good thing, but you’ve got to remember, you know, you’re not—he can’t control everything.
SPEAKER 09 :
You’re not protecting yourself from Trump and or anybody else that’s in office. You’re protecting it from a lot of the other things you and I talk about on a weekly basis.
SPEAKER 11 :
Exactly. Exactly my point, because you can’t control— And not only that, John, but typically what happens, you get a good four, maybe eight years out of one particular party, and then it swings the other way. That’s right. And so if anything, instead of taking a sigh of relief, a breath of, okay, I’m okay, if anything, hey, think of it this way. Now’s the time to pick the harvest to store up for the lean time.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, and to your point, for everybody listening, please hear me out when I say this. Given what I just saw, normally when it comes to buying guns and ammo and things like that, I know ammo prices are also down. That’s another conversation that we could weave into this bill because I’ve seen the deals. I get emails from people. you know, ammo places that I have used in the past. And they’re literally telling you in the email, we are at all time low on sales. We have an over inventory, you know, basically please buy our stuff. It’s going to be deeply discounted. So on and so forth. Same thing is happening in the gun. Now. on the gun thing what i was going to say is yeah you want to go out and buy that special one-off gun you probably aren’t going to get much of a deal on something like that but all of your regular you know ordinary things you want to go buy a glock or a sig or a smith and wesson even you know something along those lines bill chances are you could probably pick where you want to buy that and not necessarily name your price there’s not a ton of markup on the gun site any anyways it’s the ammo accessories and so on that typically gun stores make more of their money on. But given what we’re talking about right now, Bill, if you’re ever going to go out and buy something and figure out what you want to have and do it, you’re going to be a lot cheaper doing it now than when there’s a frenzy of everybody going out and trying to buy something. Furthermore, you’ll be able to buy what you want right now, not being beholden to whatever is left over because everybody else came in and bought everything. Does that make sense, Bill?
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, it makes absolute sense. And, you know, they control the narrative. That’s just kind of what I started this whole conversation with. They control the narrative, right? So when the other guys get in and they’re like, oh, they’re going to ban ammo, they’re going to do this, they’re going to do this, all of a sudden there’s a big buying frenzy, and that’s when the prices go up. Hey, they’re going to store up their buying. The government’s buying all the ammo to use against the people. I mean, all the things that we heard when the past administration was in there, right? Right. And when… all the things were super high, super hard to get. Now, all of a sudden, now it’s all easy to get and nobody’s buying. Right. That doesn’t make sense to me.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, and again, it doesn’t to me either. But here’s what I’m telling everybody listening. Now is your opportunity to buy at a, you know, whether it’s discounted or not, but just having the supply and being able to choose what you want, which in a different, you know, in a… a rush to buy things let me say it that way bill that can happen in other administrations sometimes because i’ve experienced this you know sometimes you’re kind of left over with whatever is there not really wanting you know not really being able to buy exactly what you want so you’re kind of like well that’s not my number one choice but you know i guess my number two or three choices there you know i’ll go ahead and take that right now your number one choice is probably going to be available
SPEAKER 11 :
yeah it’s going to be available and you’re not gonna have a hard time getting it because nobody else is buying it either so you need to take advantage of that’s right and this is the whole thing we’re talking about and this will lead right into our our current topic by the way but it’s like you know stop getting caught up in in the narrative and use the narrative to really kinda guide which way you’re gonna go right you know on there’s a lot of people in the financial industry they will tell you hey they make their most money in when everybody else is panic selling, you know, in a downturn of the markets when they make a lot of their money, you know, not necessarily on the upturn. They do make money there, but a lot of people will say, no, I make more money, you know, doing puts, you know, when the market’s going down and dropping than I do with, let’s say, calls or whatever. And then they turn around and do the other side anyway. But it’s the whole idea of why I named my little side company there, Prep2Protect, And that is preparing yourself to protect against whatever. So, you know, I’m buying ammo now to protect myself from when the ammo prices go up and the shortages come back again, because they will. They will. You’re going to swing the other way at some point. And usually those swings, John, get bigger and bigger and bigger, don’t they? They get more extreme, if you will, right? So Trump is the extreme Republican. Well, guess what’s going to come next? Probably the extreme Democrat. You know, I mean, it’s the pattern of life. And this has been going on since the beginning. It’s been going on since the beginning of the nation. You know, you look back at Even Mandel and Carter and Reagan and all of their political deals, it was the same thing. If this person gets in, we’re all going to be slaves. If this person gets in, he’s going to cause nuclear war. It’s all that same rhetoric, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 11 :
And you get caught up in it. Now, that leading into our current conversation, oh, mass shootings, mass shootings, gun things, gun things. What do I do? What do I do? Here’s the first thing that I would tell everybody is you’ve got to ask yourself, why are you there to begin with? Right. Okay? Right. So I do take that back. I did have another conversation with somebody, and they didn’t like my term of, hey, don’t be a hero. They took that the wrong way. They took that and, well, what do you mean? If I want to be a hero, are you knocking me for that? And I said, no, you’re missing the point. You’re missing the point. You’re going to be a hero to somebody, right? You can be a hero to a stranger or you can be a hero to your family. It’s hard to be a hero to both sometimes. Right.
SPEAKER 09 :
And I think what we were really trying to say is maybe not even – maybe hero is – I mean, I get it. That’s probably the right word. But maybe you don’t want to be that lone ranger going back in and trying to do things that might even be beyond your capabilities of doing. Therefore – in some cases, and we talked about this last week, may be causing more harm than good when it’s all said and done. So maybe that’s a better term that wouldn’t be as, quote-unquote, as offensive to some. Because, yeah, you’re going to be a hero to whoever at the end of the day, but maybe not being that lone ranger that – you know, what else? I’m trying to think of another term where, you know, basically you just go in guns ablaze and hoping you’re going to fix the situation. In some cases, Bill, you’re not going to fix anything. In fact, you might end up doing more damage than good.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, you’re more of a liability than an asset, as we talked about last week. Now, this all comes with the caveat of you knowing your skill set and you really being proficient. And that’s why last week we spent a lot of time talking about, hey, the Dunning-Kruger effect. This is why we talked about you know what, you’re probably not as good as you think you are because you’ve got a little bit of information or you’ve taken a class. You know, that’s one of the things we do with our class is we expose you to that. And you’re like, you think you’re coming. We’ve had so many people come in and go, Hey, I’m, you know, I’ve been shooting all my life. I’ve been doing this, which is great by the way, but they come in and then I paint the real scenario of what it means to be an armed everyday citizen at the grocery store, at church, at the movie theater, at the park, whatever it may be. And I said, okay, now let’s look at it from that scenario. And nine times out of nine times, or I was going to say nine times out of ten, but I haven’t had anybody come back and go, you were wrong. Everybody has come back and go, wow, you were right. And holy cow, I was confident in my ignorance of what I thought this was all about. And so we expose that. We run you through that, and then you’re coming out going, okay, okay, I have now made you cautious in your incompetence. Great. That’s the starting point. Now you go fix it. Now you go get the training necessary. Now you do what you need to do to equip yourself. And a lot of times our topics here on the show here, John, do that. We kind of have this conversation of, You know, you think you’re good. You got some beans, bullets, and band-aids. You think you’re good. But have you thought about this?
SPEAKER 09 :
Mm-hmm. That’s right.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, you’re right.
SPEAKER 09 :
That’s a good idea. That’s right.
SPEAKER 11 :
Let’s look for the cracks in the system, right?
SPEAKER 09 :
But the number one thing— Really quick, before we move on, really quick, because this text message just came in. I want to get this answered because it’s kind of on topic, and I don’t know anything about this. So this is going to be more up your alley if you even know. Somebody said, can you ask your guest opinions on Sabre, Berna, Pepper launcher guns? That is something, Bill, I’m not familiar with. I say, I’m not familiar with those either. Are they different? Those must be different brands, but basically a pepper launcher gun, I guess, where you could launch pepper spray. Charlie’s nodding that, yes, that’s what those are.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, okay, okay, okay.
SPEAKER 09 :
Which I’ve never used, so I have no experience with that whatsoever.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, I mean, here’s the thing. I struggle with that. That’s a bigger piece of equipment that I’ve got to carry. You know, I’ve got to carry that device to shoot that pepper round or that pepper ball. At that point, I’m looking at shooting a pepper ball at a distance, okay? And so I kind of come back and go, hey, maybe I can get out of there. You know, I’m a fan of pepper spray, don’t get me wrong. You know, if… Remember that, the people you talked about last week where the guy was in the fetal position and he was getting, you know, foiled by haters.
SPEAKER 09 :
In Ohio, yes.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. Hey, I’d have had no problem, you know, just pulling that pepper spray and just going in circles, right? Yeah, I’m going to get it. I’m going to get it too. That’s one of the things about pepper spray where maybe it gels a little bit better. You’re not going to affect yourself either. But at the end of the day, if I get a little bit of pepper spray in my eye, and I’m able to get up and get the heck out of there, hey, I can deal with that, right? I can’t deal with a kick to the head that possibly could paralyze me.
SPEAKER 09 :
And for all of you listening, really quick, I did look up the Burna brand, which is what Dana Lash, who comes on after my show during the week, so she’s on in the evenings, and she’s, I guess, probably a spokesperson for Burna. And I looked at it, and basically it’s like carrying a… smaller you know nine millimeter type gun you know compact type gun so you are gonna carry this probably you know purse holster or whatever it’s not gonna have that to my knowledge not gonna have the same guidelines and laws around it that you’re gonna find with a regular you know gun because this is not a gun it’s a launcher per se in fact it doesn’t even have to have a background check or anything like that to buy you’re gonna be 18 of age or older to To buy it, they’ll ship it to you. So that part of it’s kind of cool, whereby you’d have – it’s different than carrying a gun. And I guess one thing, Bill, that folks would have to realize as well is you are just shooting a projectile. How accurate you are in shooting that projectile and where it hits, of course, is going to have a different effect upon that particular person coming at you. And, again, this is something where I’m going to have to watch some videos and learn more about this because – I don’t have any personal experience with these things at all. None. So I really, I can’t say one way or the other. It looks like a great idea, but I’m hesitant to say much about it because I just don’t know, Bill.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, and I’m just thinking principles. Last week we talked about, you know, it’s hard to nail down a specific technique, let’s just say. You know, the greatest answer in pretty much everything in life outside of, you know, church is, well, it depends, right? Right. Should I get this? Does this pepper launcher work? Well, it depends. Okay, if I’m in a state such as Hawaii or something like that, yeah, maybe that’s the go-to. Or maybe I’m a person that’s not very comfortable with a gun. and I’m terrified of a gun, and I will never own one because of whatever.
SPEAKER 09 :
This would be a great start. Exactly. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 11 :
That could be a great start. So in context of that, I would say, yeah, maybe that’s an option.
SPEAKER 09 :
This is something to think about, and I did see this on their website. It makes sense as well. This also can, for a lot of folks that just can’t go to the range on a routine basis because you could literally practice with this in most, I’m guessing most situations, You know, outdoor places because this projectile is not going to go very far. You could hone some of your shooting skills with this, not having to go to a range and so on. So that is something for somebody listening. That’s, I think, the other side of this bill is not so much even just for the self-defense side. But can you sharpen your skills learning how to handle, use, you know, draw, et cetera? In other words, can you get some practice in not having to drive to a range and so spend that money and so on. So there, there, and I, again, that’s something that I’ve not used one of these. So I don’t know how it compares to shooting a regular gun.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. I mean, my answer to that is if it’s, if you’re using it for practice and you have a normal gun, get it, get an airsoft gun. That’s equivalent. Um, get a, get a cert pistol. We do all our training with cert, which is shot indicating trigger releasing or resetting, excuse me, It’s a laser gun, but it’s weighted and it’s sized and it’s pretty much a replica of your gun, but you shoot it with laser. That’s what we fight with all the time because nobody gets hurt. But, you know, the other thought too, you know, hey, if I have dogs, if I struggle with dogs, that might be a great option. You know, shoot that pepper ball with the dog or maybe the bear. I mean, so, again, it comes back to it depends. Right.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right.
SPEAKER 11 :
Good point. Speaking… you know, 60% of gun violence outside of gang and drug-related, you know, crimes happens zero to six feet, okay? So is that gonna be the choice that I’m gonna use zero to six feet. So, you know, that’s another consideration.
SPEAKER 09 :
No, that’s a great point. And I think for all of you listening and whoever sent that in, thank you. Great question, by the way, because it gets us thinking about different things that you wouldn’t normally think about. And I’m going to go back to, you know, I think this comes down to just what do you want to have how do you want to practice how do you want to hone your skills for example for some of you listening there are some really outstanding air rifles air guns even you know as far as that goes where if you’re really just trying to hone your skills your ability how good of a shot are you and so on there is a lot you can do bill even with some of the high-end airwaves now no please hear me out on this A good high-end air rifle. This is going to scare a lot of people, Bill. A good high-end air rifle that’s going to do the things we’re talking about and be as accurate as what you’re probably more accurate than what even a regular gun would be is not for the faint of heart price-wise. You get a really good air gun. they could be $1,000, $1,500, $2,000, and I am not exaggerating when I say that. They can be far more money. You could buy several rifles for what a good air gun is. But, again, if you’re limited, you don’t have the ability to go to the range all the time, you still want to be able to practice and hone in those skills, that’s another idea, Bill.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, it’s definitely an option. And that’s That’s the whole point of all this is there’s no cookie cutter thing. Nope. You know, I can’t sit there and go, hey, you need to buy, you know, even with guns, right? When people come to my class, I’ve had, you know, some females come to my class and one lady, elderly lady in her late 60s brought a Desert Eagle. And I’m like, what are you doing with that gun? Well, my husband said, this is the gun I needed. And that’s what I’ve got to shoot. And she was terrified to think she couldn’t hold on to the thing. And I said, okay, this is ridiculous. Here’s my .22. Let’s go with that. She said, I’m much more comfortable with that because in a stressful situation, you know, if I’m pulling out my Desert Eagle and I’m, you know, so unsure of that shot, I’m so shaking and wiggling because I’m so scared of it, I’m not going to get an accurate shot off anyway.
SPEAKER 09 :
Great point.
SPEAKER 11 :
So who cares? You know, I tell everybody… Hey, what’s better, a slow, accurate shot or a fast, inaccurate shot? You know, obviously, do you know how many rounds on average it takes to stop a human being between a 9mm and a .40 caliber? It takes four to eight rounds to stop somebody. And so, you know, people come in with these little pocket pistols with six rounds and revolvers with six rounds, nothing against them, but hey, what’s the consideration there? It’s going to take four to eight rounds. They stop them. And the next follow up with that, that’s if you hit them.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right. That’s right. That’s exactly right. No. And the one thing that we tend to forget, Bill, is that in these situations where you’ve got somebody that’s in this mode, number one, they’re, well… They’re always going to be mentally unstable, Bill, or they wouldn’t be doing something to take somebody else’s life. So let’s just get that out of the way right off the bat. They are mentally unstable anyways. Now, on top of that, they could be hopped up on drugs. They could have all sorts of other things going on. Reality is they could have even a different strength factor. Maybe that’s the words I’m looking for, Bill, in comparison to somebody else just because of what I said a moment ago. In other words— you know, they could have twice the strength of what you normally would because of what they’re hopped up on, what their adrenaline is doing, and so on, to your point, meaning one shot’s not going to do it in most cases. Yeah. Unless you’re really good and can hit them right between the eyes, I guess maybe then, Bill, that would be the case, but I don’t know too many people that can do that.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, well, I mean, and that goes back to that conversation. Hey, if I’m really good shot and I’ve got the distance and I’m really good with that, okay. Hey, family, get in the car. I’m going to go deal with this sucker. And I’m going to take that shot because I know my skill set. But a lot of people that come into my classes, they’re like, oh, I’m just going to do this. I’m going to do that. And I’m like, well, here, hit the paper plate. You can’t even hit the paper plate at 15 feet. And that’s a static target. You’re not moving. The target’s not moving. You’ve got all the time in the world, and you can’t hit it.
SPEAKER 09 :

By the way, I had a text message that came in and said on ammo and things like that, you know, this particular person drives out of state, pays cash, buys whatever ammo is needed, drives back. You know, that’s fine, and I’m not against that if you can make all of that happen. I’m not sure everybody has that ability, and there’s a lot of online sellers that, and I get it, You don’t want to pay the 6.5% tax to the state to go into a fund that’s actually probably being used against this bill. And I understand all of that. But practically speaking, sometimes I’d still rather have people buying enough ammo for whatever they would need and having it on hand than not, regardless of the 6.5% liberal tax we have to pay in Colorado. Does that make sense?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, I mean, and make those trips. I’m not sure about this. I thought that even if you ordered it online and they shipped it in, there was still a tax on that.
SPEAKER 09 :
You’re still paying the tax. I know you’re going to pay that six and a half percent, no matter what that other, other, you know, whoever’s shipping it in, you’re going to pay that. But if you drove out of state and it wouldn’t matter whether you paid cash, some people are worried about paying credit card, you know, because it shows up, you know, to be, you know, it shows up as a purchase and so on. So fine. If you want to go pay cash, that’s fine. I mean, my feeling on that is at the end of the day, Bill, if somebody is that worried about what I’m buying and they’re going to try to come track me down, you know what? More power to them. Have fun.
SPEAKER 11 :
And I think that there’s bigger problems in the world. I don’t think they’re looking at you right now. I mean, that’s just my thought is, you know, the one guy that’s buying ammo, you know, I mean, think about how many people there are, you know, in America. You know, and if they sit there and try to track everybody down, I mean, things could change.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, and I think, you know, along those lines, and this is something that I’ve, you know, I do is, you know, I won’t buy, you know, 10 cases of ammo at a time. No, I might buy a case of 40. You might buy a case of 9mm. You might buy a case of .223. Fine, order that all at one time, have it brought in. i’m not going to order you know four or five cases each because i do think at some point yeah that can probably be a little bit of a red flag and might flag something bill but if you do things you know in balance like we always talk about on this program if you balance some of those things out i i think your chances of being singled out to your point bill It’s going to be pretty nil. You know, again, would I go out and buy, you know, an entire truckload at one time? No, of course not. You’re definitely going to get singled out if you do something along those lines. But to buy a case here or there, have it shipped in, do that even over, you know, especially now with this administration, do that over several months. Are you going to be red flagged? Not under this administration right now, Bill.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. And, you know, I will. I will correct myself in that. Yes, if you’re buying truckloads or stuff like that, you probably will get flagged, but my mind didn’t even go there because One, I can’t do that.
SPEAKER 09 :
Most can’t. Most people can. A truckload would be thousands upon thousands of dollars in ammo. I mean, Bill, even what I just mentioned a moment ago, buying a case each of what I just mentioned, you’re going to spend close to $1,000, and even most people can’t do that. So the reality is you’re going to have to buy a lot of ammo to get red flagged, is my point.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, yeah. Look at your competitive shooters. You know, I know a lot of competitive shooters that, you know, I know a guy that does competitive shot. Now he reloads his most competitive shooters reload theirs, but they’re still buying them the reloading material. Right. And I mean, he’ll go out and he’ll go through, you know, a thousand rounds a day. Right. He’ll do that seven times a week. Right. You know, and so. You know, I mean, there’s justifications for it. I mean, they’re not knocking on his door because he’s buying all this stuff, you know, because of his competitive shooting practice. So, you know, you got to do what you got to do. But if you’re worried about that, you know, hey, every time you go somewhere, grab some. But I will say this, that some states you cannot buy unless you’re a resident of that state. So like Iowa, for example, when we go back every year for Thanksgiving in Iowa, I can’t go in there and buy ammo because And the reason they did that is because their neighboring state is Illinois. And so a lot of the people from Illinois would come over and buy it. And so now they say, hey, we can only sell to Iowa residents. So you’ve got to throw a driver’s license down to buy ammo, and you’ve got to be a resident of Iowa. So a lot of these states are like, I don’t think Wyoming is. I think anybody can buy up there, which is close for us.
SPEAKER 09 :
And again, I get the point. Nobody wants to pay the 6.5% tax here in Colorado, knowing that’s going to go to a fund that’s probably working against us. I fully understand that. But I will also say that my little bit that I would be contributing to that and buying ammo and not driving someplace using wear and tear on the vehicle, fuel, etc., I mean, I’m just going to be straight up honest. The 6.5%, I’ll pay that all day long because I can buy ammo cheap enough online that’s even going to be cheaper in that brick-and-mortar store you’re driving to. Yes, there’s going to be a record of it being shipped to me. Yes, I’m going to pay the 6.5% tax. But I go back on what we just said a moment ago. To me, it’s not worth me driving anywhere over.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, we could pick this apart all day because you’re paying a tax on that gasoline that you’re buying to go buy that that are going against things you don’t agree with.
SPEAKER 09 :
You’re right, Bill. You’re splitting hairs, really, at the end of the day. And this is where, you know, this program, we try to give you guys good, solid advice. That’s why my daily show is called Rush to Reason. We’re trying to be reasonable in all the things that we talk about. Yes, you can get so out there and so sensitive to things, I guess you could say, Bill, when it comes to how some of these things are bought and so on, that, yeah, you can get all the way down a rabbit hole on this stuff. And I’ll just tell you straight up, I’m not that guy. I’m not going to advise that way. If you want to do that, then be my guest. Do I still buy ammo, have it shipped in, and use a credit card? Yeah, because it’s the only way you can make that happen. And I’m definitely not going to send somebody money on a wire or anything like that. I am going to send a credit card. I’ve got protection. If something happens and the ammo doesn’t show, I had one situation one time, Bill, to where, believe it or not, I ordered a case of .45 ammo. And when it showed up, you’re going to laugh at this. When it showed up, it was baby bottle nipples, and I’m not exaggerating. I picked the thing up, and I’m like, okay, wait a minute. This is supposed to be ammo. What’s up with this? In fact, my wife had opened the box, and she’s like, what did you order all these baby bottle nipples for? I said, I don’t think I did. Let me make sure the kids didn’t order anything and have it drop shipped and all that. Well, come to find out, somebody along the shipping route had – taken all of the ammo, the little boxes of ammo, out of the big box, because they double box that stuff, as you know, and put all these baby bottle nipples back inside. Luckily, we took pictures of all of that. Because I did a credit card and all of that, it was a very easy thing to get reversed and handled. Actually, the ammo company was really great and said, listen, we’ll send you another case, so on and so forth. But that’s another thing to be watching for, folks, when you order this stuff online. Make sure you’re buying whatever the insurance is. If they don’t offer insurance, buy the insurance.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, yeah, that’s a good point. And, you know, somebody that, you know, is concerned about the, you know, paying the tax to go, you know, into things that they don’t agree with, I would ask them, I would say, well, you know, we can paralyze ourselves by some of these choices. And I get that, you know, hey, if that’s your choice, great. But would I rather go pay the 6% and have it other than stand my ground and not pay the 6% and then go, oh, I don’t have ammo now. You know, there may be times where it’s like, hey, I’m going to, If I can make the most of my trip to Wyoming, great. But at the end of the day, if it’s not convenient for me to go there, I’m not going there with that specific intent or ordering online or whatever, you know, I’m going to go to the store and buy it. Now, that’s what has also led me personally into going down the reloading train of thought, right? So I am now not dependent on whether the ammo is there. Yes, I understand supply of primers and powder and and the bullets and things like that still come, and even part of that 6% tax is, yeah, they’re taxing you on any reloading supplies. Now, dude, I thought I was, I thought I found the loophole there to that 6%, but I come to find out, it’s like, no, it’s including the reloading supplies, too. Right.
SPEAKER 09 :
And I want to be clear on this, too, because I don’t want to brush any of this under the rug. That 6.5%, according to the state. Now, this is one thing, too, I always have to try to talk about even during the week, Bill. Money’s fungible. So if the state is getting money in one area, that just means there’s less money that has to come out of the general fund that they can go put someplace else. Again, you could split hairs over this tax thing and not buy a lot of things because of it. But in this case, the 6.5% is going to crime victim services, mental health programs, and school safety initiatives. That’s where it’s earmarked and where those things are supposed to be going out of the 6.5%. By the way, I don’t really have any issues with any one of those at all. I don’t. how much is being spent? Is the money really making it there? And again, yes, money is fungible. So you take a school safety initiative where they would normally take that out of a general school budget. They’re no longer doing that. It’s being funded this way, meaning they’ve got more money to go do other things I don’t agree with. So I understand the principal bill, but I’m not, I’m sorry. I’ve got too much, but I’ve got too many other things in life to do and worry about than that.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. Yeah, exactly. You know, you can get, paralyzed by overthinking one particular area. And it’s like, you know, remember what I’ve always said? I said, you can’t control what they’re going to do, right? You can’t control what tax they’re going to charge you. You can’t control what they’re going to do with that money at the end of the day. And so you can become hyper-focused on things you can’t really control, or you can become hyper-focused on the things you can control. So here’s an example. I can’t get all worked up because, you know, we all saw the numbers when that ballot was on the ballots. The amount of money that a school is going to get from this fund is ridiculous. It’s equivalent to pretty much nothing. It’s not going to do anything. There’s so many schools, and if you spread that across the board, I don’t remember what the number was, but it’s like, yeah, here’s your $30 for school safety or whatever it was. It was something really ridiculous, right? Nothing you can do with it. So I can’t control any of that. I can’t control how… all the Democrats of Denver are going to vote because unfortunately we don’t have an electoral system in Colorado, which I wish we did, so that us out here and outside of Denver would have a bigger voice in what we do. But we can’t control that. So we can, and it doesn’t seem like we’re going to change it, right? So I still vote. I still do my opinion. I’m not throwing the white flag in the air. Don’t mishear me on this. But I’m going to work on things I can control. And what can I control? Okay, I can reload my own. Guess what? I can go to Iowa and buy all those reloading supplies with an out-of-state license now because it’s only for ammo. So I start working on the things I can control and not getting so worked up about the things I can’t control. So back to the school, back to the mass shooting thing, it’s the same thing. I can’t control what this guy’s going to do, but I can control what I’m going to do. And that number one choice is do I really need to be there? You know, I think that one thing, was it Philadelphia where that shooting was? And it was like at 3 in the morning or something? Am I correct on that? It’s like, okay, so the people that got shot, what am I doing in downtown in that neighborhood at 3 in the morning? I don’t know about you, John, but I’m in bed. Yeah, me too. Now, I don’t want to paralyze people by thinking, oh, I can’t go to a nice dinner downtown. I mean, we went to the Rockies game this past Sunday. You know, we do things like that. But again, I can’t control what’s going to happen in those environments. I’m going into a more dangerous place, right? If you look at the colors for the alerts and stuff, okay, I’m going into a red or a yellow zone or an orange zone. I don’t even know what the colors are because I don’t really teach them or show them. So… I’m going into this higher place where the probability of something like this is going to happen. I can’t control what’s going to happen, but I can sure control what I’m going to do. And I went into that situation with, okay, I’ve got my trauma kit. I’ve got my water bottles. I’ve got a couple other things that I’m not going to talk about on me. that in a case of an event where I’m at least good for something, I can control that.
SPEAKER 09 :
That’s right. And really quick, to your point, I just did the math. The projected revenue that’s going to come in off of the ammo tax is going to be, it’s not currently there yet, they’re going to ramp it up, but it’s going to be around $35, $36 million. If all of the money, and it’s not, but if all the money went to every public school evenly, there’s about, you know, I don’t know, 1,800 or so, 1,900 public schools in the state. I think I did the math on – I did 1941 because that’s what ChatGBT just told me there is in Colorado, 1941. So I use the 1941 number, Bill, as public schools, and you come up with about – $15,000, to your point, to each school, it’s not going to be enough for them to really do much of anything when it comes to safety prevention and so on. And keep in mind, there’s three other or two other things that that money is actually going to besides just going to you know, a public school. So at the end of the day, you’re right. There’s probably, I’ll bet you each school, if they’re lucky to see a check for four or five grand, I would be shocked, meaning this is a big feel-good measure from the left. Yes, we’re all going to pay it, but at the end of the day, is it really going to do anything at the end of the day? No, it’s not.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, even if you just split it in thirds equally across the board. Correct. What does that give you?
SPEAKER 09 :
Five grand apiece, roughly.
SPEAKER 11 :
Five grand a piece. What is that going to buy you in your school?
SPEAKER 09 :
Nothing. Sorry, not in today’s world, Bill. Nothing. It’s not going to buy anything. You’d be lucky to put even some of the hardened doorknobs and things like that on some of the doors throughout the building. You’d be lucky to even get that done.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER 09 :
Exactly my point. So my point with this is, for those of you that are thinking along those lines, which is fine, I get that. You can think that way. You can go out of state, pay cash, and all of that. But I think to say that tax is going to somehow be used against us, and yes, it will be, because that $36 million is fungible. There’s other money now the state can go use for other things, and I understand all of that. Again, you look at the budget that we have in Colorado and look at $36 million isn’t a small number. That is a large number, but not when you’re a state that has the billions of dollar budget we have. When it’s all said and done, Bill, I hate to say this. Again, this was a feel-good measure from the left is all it was.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, yeah. And then you even take that down to the school level. So now you’ve got a school with $1,500 for the year. And they’re like, well, I can’t really do anything with this. But you know what? I can go buy something for another area. I mean, are they going to stock that $1,500 or whatever it is up until they can buy something, or are they going to be like, you know what, we’re going to shift numbers too?
SPEAKER 09 :
Right. That’s right. That’s right. It’s all fungible. So I appreciate that, though. I’m not saying anything against that. Okay. And again, we said this particular topic would take a few weeks to get done, and it is, because a lot of what we’re talking about today even is – Take the opportunity. The key to this show today is the opportunity that is out there, given the circumstances we have with a lot of sales in guns, ammo. And by the way, folks, that’s going to mean even all of the other pieces that go with guns and ammo, because guess what? If people aren’t buying guns and they’re not buying ammo, that means holsters. That means cleaning kits. That means, Bill, even the reloading supplies you just mentioned. I mean, all of these other ancillary accessories that are involved in the gun world are also down because people are not going to be buying. Because typically you buy those things. I get it. Sometimes you can buy those things to go do something else. You’ve already owned the gun and so on. But typically, Bill, you know how this works. Those accessories and things like that are usually combined at the time of sale with that new gun, meaning those are down as well. So there’s deals there also, is my point.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, there absolutely is. You trying to order on Amazon a holster for my particular gun, and Amazon won’t even ship them to the state. I said, sorry, your state’s not eligible for shipping of this item. So there is going to be a point, too, where the manufacturers and stuff are going to be like, you know what, we’re not going to deal with all the loopholes we’ve got to go through to send you this stuff, so we’re just not going to send it to you no more. And you’re not eligible for it in your state. And so that’s something that I foresee, you know, getting bigger on. But right now, you know, I try to order. Maybe it was just my particular thing. I don’t know. Maybe somebody else has had luck with it since. But, you know, I try to order a holster. And so, you know, again, what did I do? I made my own, you know. So that’s the whole idea of self-sufficiency. Okay, I don’t need you. I’ll figure out, you know. And with ChatGPT now, it literally is you’re taking the knowledge of so many sources.

and going, okay, it’s the ultimate encyclopedia. You know, and it’s not the end-all, say-all. You know, I’ll ask it questions about the Bible, and I’ll be like, yep, that’s wrong. That’s wrong. And I’ll tell it, hey, you’re wrong. And it goes, oh, you’re absolutely right. I failed to see that. It’s like you’re just trying to appease me, which is what it’s programmed to do. But it’s… You know, it’s a great tool to be like, okay, how do I do this? You know, right now I’m kind of studying this electroculture. I don’t know if you’ve heard about that, but it’s taking copper and shaping antennas and putting them into your gardens and things like that. And I did a chat GPT on it, and it’s like, hey, would you like a diagram of how to make it yourself? I’m like, yeah, absolutely. You know, so you can utilize this as a tool. Absolutely. My point is, like, I can’t get a holster on Amazon, so I’m going to learn how to make it. Pretty simple to do. We got… YouTube. I mean, there’s so much information out there, but you can also start to build a community with people and, you know, get to know people network, network, network, network is so important. You know, Hey, I don’t know how to do that, but I know, I know John knows how to do that. Or I know Dennis knows how to do that. Or I know this guy or, you know, in fact, as we speak, as we speak, I don’t know if, um, uh, the guy from Cheyenne, oh my gosh, his name is John. John from Cheyenne. Guess what? I’m talking to you now on T-Mobile because I made the switch. Good job. Networking, right?

And you know what? It’s crystal clear, so good job. And for those listening, I’m not making an ad for T-Mobile by any means, but they have really done some things network-wise that makes it very cool. We, in light of what John said, my son and I, we were talking the other day, we’re looking into something similar, making a corporate switch as well and looking at all of the options, Bill, because of what John said.

Yeah, so again, it’s networking, it’s, you know, and some people are probably listening to us today, getting all worked up because of our opinions on the taxes and the certain things and the pepper balls.
SPEAKER 09 :
Really quick, I got another comment on the tax thing, which was that, you know, It’s just it’s unconstitutional. I don’t believe in the tax. It’s unconstitutional. By the way, not disagreeing. I agree it’s unconstitutional. I agree that some of the gun laws we have right now, I think the waiting period, in fact, is unconstitutional. A lot of those are being challenged. They may end up at the Supreme Court level. But at the same time, Bill, we still have to live, be prepared, have the things on hand that we need. In spite of all of those things, life goes on, and we’ve got to figure out how to work around it. That’s my point.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, I mean, concealed carry. The last post I did about my concealed carry class, someone came on and said, this is ridiculous. You don’t need a class like that. You just profiteer in. And I’m like, yeah, but it’s the law.
SPEAKER 09 :
But it is what it is. You can’t work around it. I mean, it is what it is. Until the law changes, it is what it is, right?
SPEAKER 11 :
Right. So that person that asked that question, do they have a driver’s license?
SPEAKER 09 :
Of course.
SPEAKER 11 :
I mean, is it constitutional that I need a license to drive a vehicle?
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, that comes down to is it a privilege or is it a right? And I personally, as a car guy, will tell you that driving is a privilege because there’s nothing in the Constitution because cars weren’t around. There’s freedom to travel, which, by the way, you have two feet. You have freedom to travel. There are no borders on states. You can go from state to state. But driving is something different, and I don’t think that was factored in in the Constitution, by the way.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, it wasn’t because it didn’t exist. Correct. You know, the point is, is we can pick this principle apart all over the place. Absolutely. There’s plenty of things that you do that you totally comply with, and you have no problem complying with.
SPEAKER 09 :
Including going through the airport to get on an airplane, Bill.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, that are 100% unconstitutional. But you have no problem complying with that. But then you throw up one of these little hot topics, and they’re like, oh, yeah, that’s unconstitutional. I’m not going to do it. Okay, cool. Hey, one good thing about America, it is free. That’s right.
SPEAKER 09 :
Make your own choices. You can make a choice. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 11 :
We’ll deal with the consequences if you get caught.
SPEAKER 09 :
In this particular case, Bill, if this particular individual, which they do, if they want to drive to another state and pay cash and do whatever it is they do, and they’ve got that time and ability and so on, then that’s all great. I frankly, and you guys all know my schedule, Bill, I don’t have that time. I’m not driving to another state just to buy ammo. I’ve got better things to do.

Yeah, it’s just, yes. I mean, absolutely. So it’s a personal choice. I mean, and that’s what we’re trying to talk about with this is that, hey, we’re just flipping, we’re turning over the soil. We’re asking you to consider the other side of the coin, you know, because sometimes we get so narrow minded and fixated in our thoughts and our opinions. And it’s like, hey. You know what? Maybe there’s some things that the Democrats are doing that are actually not a bad thing. You ever thought about that? Oh, I just made a lot of your listeners mad. But it’s like, let’s listen.

A blind squirrel finds a nut every now and again, Bill. And you know what? That’s a great closing point. And we’ve got way more to talk about, folks. I think the biggest theme today is just the fact that there is a sales slump going on right now. in all of these gun areas because of Donald Trump. Bill said a lot of great things along those lines. Just because he’s in office doesn’t mean you still shouldn’t own these things and be prepared. That’s what this show is about. So take advantage of that slump. Buy when things are low. What’s that old saying? You know, Bill, buy low, sell high. Well, you’re typically not going to sell this stuff, but buy low as you can to be more prepared that way.
