In this riveting episode, Mike Gallagher dives deep into the ongoing government shutdown, dissecting the conflicting political narratives and raising the question: Should members of Congress continue to receive paychecks while the federal government is at a standstill? With direct quotes from prominent politicians, Mike challenges the double standards in lawmakers’ responses, highlighting the real-world impact on everyday citizens affected by halted federal services, like a struggling veteran dependent on SNAP benefits.
SPEAKER 09 :
From the wild world of D.C. politics to America’s culture clash, brace yourself for the reality check you’ve been waiting for. The one and only Mike Gallagher.
SPEAKER 11 :
President Trump yesterday said that the Schumer shutdown continues because the radical Democrats are holding the federal government hostage to appease the extremists. They all know what’s going on. The far left is completely holding America hostage. And people aren’t getting paid. Why are elected officials getting paid during the shutdown? Why are members of Congress getting paid? What sense does that make? I saw a… A poor weepy guy yesterday, a veteran who’s on the SNAP benefits food assistance program, he can’t feed his kids. He’s a veteran. And he said the money’s about to run out because the SNAP benefits are about to run out. If the Democrats want to make political theater… out of this shutdown, which is all it’s about. Why should any of them, Democrats or Republicans, get paid? I am fascinated by this issue. I really am. And I want to give you some examples of how these different Congress people answered that question. Here’s Ruben Gallego being asked why You members of Congress continue to earn your nice paycheck while you’re refusing to vote on a clean, continuing resolution, while you refuse to reopen the government, while you are backing the Schumer shutdown. Why do you get to get paid? Here’s Gallego.
SPEAKER 13 :
What do you think about members not taking pay during the shutdown? Do you think that’s something that should be done? Are you personally doing that?
SPEAKER 07 :
I think it’s a gimmick. Right now, 24 million people are losing their health insurance if we don’t act. These same members are not going to cut their health insurance. They’re not going to increase their premiums. These same members, most of them are millionaires, some of them are billionaires. And again, let’s focus on health insurance instead of gimmicks.
SPEAKER 11 :
Health insurance? What are you talking about? That’s a non-answer. Why are you getting paid, Gallego? Here’s Senator Murphy. Ask the same thing.
SPEAKER 13 :
Hey, Senator, just a quick question for you. Do you think members should be paid during the shutdown, the senators and congressmen?
SPEAKER 04 :
I think the House of Representatives should show up for work. There’s no way to end the shutdown until they actually get here and show up. So that’s the most important thing right now. So there’s no way to have a negotiation with only half the Congress here.
SPEAKER 13 :
Some members are voluntarily not taking pay. Are you on board with that?
SPEAKER 11 :
Nope. Nope, nope, not voluntary. I’m not on board with that. I better get my paycheck. It’s not my fault that the extremists are holding our party hostage, says Murphy. How about Van Hollen? Let’s take a look at Van Hollen.
SPEAKER 13 :
Can I ask you if you think members, lawmakers should be getting pay while the shutdown goes on?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, I had my pay withheld during this period of time to demonstrate solidarity with all the federal employees. So I’m not drawing a paycheck.
SPEAKER 13 :
Do you like to see more senators fall asleep?
SPEAKER 03 :
Every individual should make up their own mind.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, good for you. Good. Have your have your pay withheld. So let’s check out another senator, Heinrich, who doesn’t want to pay our troops or our TSA agents or cops. Where do you hear the reason why?
SPEAKER 10 :
Some Republican senator have pushed a bill that would pay government workers who have not been furloughed as part of the government shutdown. Those who have been furloughed would still be without pay. Is this something you would support?
SPEAKER 15 :
I’m not going to pit some of my government employees against other government employees. I think that just gives the president more leverage to really make the situation worse and treat some government employees with incredible disdain. We’ve already seen a lot of government employees fired during the shutdown who didn’t need to be fired. This is an administration that’s very hostile to government employees. I have a lot of those folks in my state, and I’m not going to turn my back on any of them.
SPEAKER 11 :
These people are nuts. They’re just crazy. Yeah, I’m going to get paid. Yeah, I don’t want to pay cops or the military. I don’t want to give Trump leverage. It’s all designed to try to give Trump a crisis. And here’s the problem with that. Newsflash, he doesn’t care. He doesn’t care one bit. He’s remodeling the White House. He’s demoing the East Wing. He doesn’t care. And they’re outraged about that. He doesn’t care. He’s doing memes showing him flying around in a fighter jet, dropping poop on the No Kings protests. They’re outraged. He doesn’t care. I honestly believe they think one day he’ll care. One day he’ll say, oh, you got me now. Oh, you got me now. Has to be the case. So let me just put it to you. Do you think these members of Congress who are stubbornly refusing to open the government should collect a paycheck while they’re sitting out? 800-655-MIKE. 800-655-6453. Should members of Congress get a paycheck during the shutdown? It’s not a trick question. Whatever you think about the shutdown or who, forget who you think is at fault. SPEAKER 11 :
There’s a real ugly, awful, nasty situation brewing in New York City. And I am just, I know I’m invested in it probably more than I should be, probably due to my history of a kid growing up in Ohio, dreaming of living and working in New York one day. You know, it’s the Big Apple, you know, the best of everything, the best sport. How about the Yankees? What’s the guy’s name? Pitches six innings? No, the Dodger. Yeah, the Los Angeles Dodgers guy that pitches six innings and hits three home runs. You’ve got Aaron Judge for the Yankees. You’ve got some of these superstars. And, of course, New York has always been a big sports town, but I don’t know, it made me think of Otani right now when we were talking about baseball. Broadway, restaurants. the financial epicenter of the world, every TV show, every movie it feels is shot in New York. And what New York is about to do is such a disaster. It’s catastrophic. And all this stuff is emerging about Zoran Mamdani now. Guy’s an Islamist. Period. No, I’m not saying that to name call. He is who he is. The guy would be awful for New York, and everybody except the crazy, lunatic, young leftists knows it. And the reason the crazy, lunatic leftists want him is because they think he’s going to give them free stuff. They’re going to get free bus rides, and they think they’re going to have their rent frozen. There’s no free. But I have to say this. There’s going to be another mayoral debate tonight between Mamdani, Curtis Lewa, and Andrew Cuomo. And Curtis and Cuomo… Look, it is inevitable that if all three of them are in the race, Mamdani is going to win. Period. There’s no way around this. If all three of them stay in the race… Cuomo and Sliwa are going to fracture the vote, they’re going to split the vote, and period. You’re going to have a communist Islamist for your mayor. And I guess you’ll deserve it, New York. But the implication or the inference or the assumption that Curtis and only Curtis should drop out kind of astounds me. Why isn’t there a demand for Cuomo to drop out? If Cuomo drops out, what happens? But here’s the red flag. The pile-on, the enormous pressure, the smearing of Curtis right now is so intense that everyone should be suspicious about it. Look at the cover of the New York Post this week. If you’re watching on Salem News Channel, you’ll see it. I’ll hold it up for you. Full screen, Christian. Just walk away, Beret. Look at that cover. Just walk away, Beret. The New York Post is now piling on big time. Even allies tell Curtis Lewa to drop mayor bid. Don’t let Zoran win. Hey, New York Post, do you like Cuomo? Why don’t you demand Cuomo drops out? It’s funny how that never comes up. Why is that? Cuomo, this disgraced ex-governor who was run out of office in scandal, whose actions led to thousands of deaths of nursing home patients. There are people, ask Janice Dean about Andrew Cuomo, the Fox News personality who became a leading voice For justice, for those who died because of these outrageous, stupid policies that people like Cuomo came up with. There are people who argue Cuomo ought to be in jail over what happened during the COVID crisis. Bill Ackman is a billionaire, right? Rich guy. He sent out a tweet. Check this out. I spoke to someone who knows Curtis Sliwa. Now I understand why he is staying in the race. The city has an eight to one matching program for NYC donors. Sliwa got five million of matching funds from the city for his campaign. According to my source, says Bill Ackman, Sliwa’s wife. Friends and others are on the campaign payroll. And he and they are enjoying living off the city taxpayers who are funding his race and lifestyle. He doesn’t want to end the campaign and have to return the funds. Follow the money. When I asked why he doesn’t care about NYC, my source said, he doesn’t give a crap. And the word was not crap. Now, Ackman goes on to write, clearly this is hearsay, but my source is extremely credible. He knows Sliwa well. Well, I know Sliwa pretty well, too. And for anybody who thinks he doesn’t care about New York, you’re out of your mind. This guy has lived, breathed, fought for New York his entire life. He is such a warrior and a champion for lawfulness and order and peace. This guy, he’s the only chance New York has. And I was thinking about this last night. I’m just heartbroken. I’m absolutely heartbroken. I’m heartbroken. I don’t know anything much about Bill Ackman and why he would smear Curtis. And maybe he thinks it’s a legitimate accusation. There’s all kinds of nasty stuff being printed now about Curtis. Now it’s a smear campaign that is intensifying. And that should make you suspicious. You should be suspicious of any entity smearing the Republican nominee for mayor because he won’t drop out. Again, why isn’t anybody calling on Cuomo to drop out? Don’t you find that suspicious? Why is nobody saying, hey, the right thing to do is for Andrew Cuomo, this disgraced scoundrel who isn’t even in the race. He doesn’t care about you. You see his interviews. He’s so lackluster. He’s so out of it. He’s just going through the motions. Why is he staying in the race? And a legitimate question here. If they all know that both of them staying in the race will hand the victory to the communist, socialist, Islamist, then why doesn’t Cuomo drop out? I saw somewhere that Cuomo gave an interview where he said if he loses, he’s going to move to Florida. He’s going to go off and live in Florida. Well, look, there may be things… I don’t know about Curtis Lewa. I can tell you one thing. Highly unlikely Curtis is going to tuck tail and go to Florida if he loses this race in a couple of weeks. 800-655-MIKE. We’ve got a lot of breaking news this hour. But what a crazy time and a heartbreaking time. I’m heartbroken at what’s going to happen to New York if they don’t figure this out. More and more things are being revealed about things that Mamdani has said in the past about Islam, about the role of Islam in New York City, about what he thinks about New York City. More and more is emerging. I mean, it’s bad. It’s really, really bad. But the pressure is coming from all sides. Even a family that I really admire, the Trump family. Eric Trump yesterday, President Trump’s own son, on Fox News Channel.
SPEAKER 01 :
Can, can’t, I mean, obviously, so you would prefer to see Cuomo win there than Mangani?
SPEAKER 08 :
100%, absolutely.
SPEAKER 01 :
Okay, so can Cuomo pull off victory if Sliwa’s still in the race? No, no, of course not.
SPEAKER 08 :
And by the way, that’s why the New York Post, that’s why one of your your own companies is strongly encouraging him to get out of the race as as as everybody else. Listen, you know, I love Republicans, you know, but the problem is right now the guy’s polling at like nine percent. Right. And I’m not saying I’m the biggest Cuomo fan. I’m against a lot of the things that Cuomo has done. But, you know, at least at least he’s not trying to nationalize grocery stores. At least he’s not trying to raise taxes further in New York.
SPEAKER 11 :
Hey, Eric, neither is Curtis. Why doesn’t Sandra Smith ask Eric Trump about Cuomo dropping out? Why does nobody ever ask about Cuomo dropping out? It’s got to be Curtis. And please, don’t give me this crap that a Republican cannot win in New York City. That would be news to Rudolph Giuliani. That would be news to Mike Bloomberg. 800-655-MIKE, 17 past the hour. We’re in the Relief Factor studios. I don’t know. It’s a bad, bad situation. It’s heartbreaking. It’s depressing. Maybe there’s a miracle coming. I don’t know what that means. There’s another mayoral debate tonight. I don’t know how that plays out. A lot of people are suggesting that Mamdani might have a moment where he stumbles. He’s not going to stumble. He’s a good candidate. If you’re a leftist, entitled, spoiled brat who wants free stuff, he’s your guy. And of course they couch it into, he gives us hope. Oh, he gives us hope. Yeah, hope that you don’t have to pay for stuff in the most expensive city in the world. And he’s tapped into that. He’s tapped into that. Big time. SPEAKER 11 :
I’m a talk show host, right? I come into the studio, we debate issues, we take things that are happening in the news, we cover breaking news, what to make of it all. My team wants me to talk about the meltdown that people are having over Trump renovating the East Wing and building a big ballroom that he wants at the White House. And I’m just sitting here thinking, okay, we’re on the verge of an Islamist communist getting elected mayor of New York City. We’ve got a government shutdown that the Democrats refuse to accept. budge on they don’t want to reopen the government because they want to inflict pain upon trump and his supporters i saw somebody quoted last night a democrat saying that they’re going to vote against funding the military and i start to think about it well of course they don’t want to fund the military because a whole lot of people in the military are trump supporters The Democrats want to inflict pain upon Trump supporters. I saw a weepy story about a guy who can’t feed his family because he’s on the SNAP benefits food program. And the money’s about to run out. And the guy looked into the camera and said, this is a matter of whether or not my kids are going to get to eat or not. And he was a veteran. I started thinking about it. If he’s a veteran, if he’s the kind of person who would proudly serve his country, chances are pretty good he’s a Trump voter. That’s the point. They want to inflict pain on Trump supporters. Remember something. We’ve talked about this for now going on seven, eight years. They don’t hate Trump as much as they hate you and me. They can’t believe this country supports Donald Trump. And like it or not, based on his two successful elections, the country supports Trump. Majority of Americans want the mass deportation. They expect a sealed border. They want a safe community. They want a booming economy. Did you see Stephanopoulos try to get the head of Walmart to say that things are going badly in the economy? This was a smackdown if there ever was one. Here’s George Stephanopoulos, the former Clinton advisor, who pretends to be a journalist on ABC. He tries to get Walmart’s U.S. CEO, John Furner, to say that, oh, Thanksgiving is going to be expensive because the terrible economy. Listen to this smackdown by the U.S. CEO of Walmart with George Stephanopoulos over on ABC. Let’s talk about Thanksgiving first.
SPEAKER 07 :
Food prices are up, especially turkey. So what are you doing to help customers keep the cost down?
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, good morning, George. It’s great to see you. We are really excited about what we have planned for this year at Thanksgiving. And I can’t believe it’s already that time of year. But this is a time of year when people are busy. They don’t want to sacrifice quality. And we want to do all we can to help them celebrate the holiday any way they want. And we want to do it in a way that’s very affordable with a lot of value. So I want to talk about a couple of things with the Thanksgiving basket. First, we started putting together this idea of having the entire basket easy to purchase, easy to assemble back in 2022. And this year, we will have the best prices on this basket we’ve had since the program started. We’re down about 25% from last year, down about $14 for the basket, which puts us in a position where this basket is just under $4 a person when serving 10 people. So we have a great basket that has a mix of our great brands like Butterball Turkeys. Our turkey prices, George, are all the way back to what they were in 2019 at 97 cents a pound. So we’re really excited about the progress. I was really impressed when the team brought me this. It was better than I expected. So we’re looking forward to a great holiday season, and we want to help people celebrate any way they want and do it at a great Walmart price.
SPEAKER 11 :
Wasn’t quite the answer George Stephanopoulos was looking for. Oh, prices are down overall at Walmart 25% for groceries to buy for Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey prices are at 2019 levels. That’s not what George wanted to hear. So all of this is going on. Things are headed in the right direction. ICE is doing their thing. Trump is doing his thing. And back to my original point about being a talk show host, I don’t even know how to defend or dispute or debate the ridiculousness of people melting down over Trump and the ballroom. Trump and the ballroom. Oh, this is a monstrosity. Look at the construction going on. Oh, my gosh. Here’s Caroline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, yesterday.
SPEAKER 02 :
I believe there’s a lot of fake outrage right now because nearly every single president who has lived in this beautiful White House behind me has made modernizations and renovations of their own. And in fact, presidents for decades in the modern time have quipped about how they wish they had a larger event space here at the White House that can hold hundreds more people than the current East Room and state dining rooms can. In fact, President Obama… notably complained that during his tenure, he had to hold a state visit on the South Lawn and get a very expensive tent. If you talk to journalists who have covered the White House for decades, as I do here every single day, they will also tell you that administration after administration have publicly and privately spoken about the need for a larger event space. So while many presidents have privately dreamt about this, it’s President Trump who is actually doing something about it.
SPEAKER 11 :
Ever been to Mar-a-Lago? It’s one of the most beautiful resorts I’ve ever visited in my life. Ever stayed in a Trump hotel? They’re some of the nicest hotels in the country. The guy’s a builder. The guy knows. He said yesterday, hear that construction sound? That’s music to my ears. I don’t even know how to have a conversation about the ballroom controversies. Here’s Josh Hawley last night on Fox News.
SPEAKER 16 :
I love this, that, oh, it’s history being destroyed. History? These are the people who, for the last four years, have torn down every statue of this country’s history they can get their hands on. George Washington tore it down. Thomas Jefferson tore it down. Theodore Roosevelt tore it down. Christopher Columbus, we were told, was an oppressor and tore it down. And now, suddenly… They’re the great defenders of history. Give me a break. They hate Donald Trump. They hate everything he does. The fact the president is doing this on his own dime. Laura, I saw it today. It looks fantastic. I’m delighted he’s doing it. And I love seeing these liberals meltdown.
SPEAKER 11 :
And incidentally, that’s the whole that’s the reason it’s a non-issue. Nobody’s taxpayers aren’t on the hook for it at all. It’s all being done with Trump’s money and private donors. It’s a non-issue. I mean, I don’t even know how to tackle a topic that’s a non-issue. I will say that his point about the angry, violent left tearing down all the statues, that’s a terrific point. That’s an issue worth having a conversation about. In fact, Laura Ingraham followed up on that, making a lot of sense. They ought to be putting all those statues back.
SPEAKER 06 :
If he really wants to get them completely, you know, just losing their minds, he should have a whole statuary garden and bring back Robert E. Lee to the statuary garden, right? They would really put them to, you know, not in an early grave. We want everyone to be healthy and happy. But the history, yeah, okay, let’s do history. Let’s put them all back, all the statues back.
SPEAKER 11 :
When they were tearing down the Christopher Columbus statues and the Robert E. Lee statues and all the violence and the vandalism, that was the moment that I knew we were taking a turn for the worse. I think for many people, it’s why they voted for Trump. It’s why a lot of people would never vote for another Democrat. Because Democrats supported that kind of chaos and anarchy. So 800-655-MIKE, 16 past the hour. We’re in the Relief Factor studios for a Wednesday. We’re headed off to Israel on Monday. I’m so excited to bring you the show from the Holy Land. Thanks to our friends at the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. And if you want to weigh in, incidentally, on the ballroom controversy, I’m all, hey, have at it. What do you want to argue about? What do you want to discuss? That Trump, the builder, shouldn’t renovate? a small portion of the White House and create a big, beautiful ballroom? You want to argue? Really? Okay. He shouldn’t spend his own money to beautify the White House? Oh, okay. All right. Sure. Knock yourself out. That’s like the No Kings protesters. Go knock yourself out. You want to march around and carry a sign saying there shouldn’t be a ballroom that’s privately funded in the White House? Okay. You do you. Go to town. and try not to look into the mirror, because if you look in the mirror, you’re going to see a pathetic human being. Generally, imaginary concerns are harmless until they become harmful. When they become the narrative, suddenly you will see Charlie Kirk again get shot and killed. Why? Because an amplified phony narrative made him Hitler. Why was Trump shot at? Same reason. So this is harmless for now.
SPEAKER 09 :
In the Relief Factor studios, here’s Mike on Salem News Channel and Salem Radio Network.
SPEAKER 11 :
You see, ICE raided Chinatown yesterday. They were in lower Manhattan. And, of course, I think every single one of the candidates for mayor of New York objected. which is pretty astounding. Byron York, from the Washington Examiner, had a very common sense response to hearing Andrew Cuomo rail against ICE. This is not who we are. And it will never be New York City when I am mayor. So they’re all strutting around, preening and grandstanding, pretending that ICE shouldn’t be on 8th Avenue by that Rowe NYC Hotel or in Lower Manhattan. And incidentally, they were finding and they were targeting drug traffickers and criminal rapists outside the Rowe Hotel. But as Byron says, in a very common sense, just a one-sentence post on his ex-account, it appears that a lot of New Yorkers, including some running for office, believe that federal immigration law simply does not apply to New York City. This is… back to the days when they changed the phrase illegal immigrants to undocumented. It just doesn’t apply. The law doesn’t matter because you don’t like the law. You don’t like federal immigration law, so New York should have like a protective shield around it where federal law doesn’t matter because, after all, it’s New York. Look, it’s that mindset that’s that federal immigration law doesn’t apply to New York City, that makes the rest of the country not care whether New York goes down the tubes or not. And I totally understand that. Believe me, I understand that. New York is not exempt from federal immigration law. New York does not get a waiver or a pass from You can’t say, oh yeah, we’re going to go to Texas and we’re going to enforce immigration laws there. But we’re not going to enforce federal immigration laws in New York City. Because after all, New York City is so special. We’re the melting pot. And if I’m not mistaken, all three of the candidates… have complained about the federal government enforcing federal immigration law. And that’s all it is. That’s all it is. It’s a matter of witnessing the federal government enforce federal immigration law. I dare you to tell me that you could object to that. The law is the law is the law. Period. Period. Oh, it’s New York, though. We’re a melting pot. We’re founded by immigrants. Okay. Yeah, immigrants who obeyed the law. This is why people just don’t care, and I do understand it. I care for a bunch of reasons, not the least of which is I have family and friends living in New York who are absolutely terrified. Everybody I know in New York, and I’ve got a pretty wide circle of friends. I don’t have all rock-ribbed conservatives in my circle. Everybody I know. who lives and works in New York, is positively terrified at the prospect of this Islamist, communist, Democrat, socialist being elected mayor. It’s like the perfect storm for this guy. He came out of nowhere, never held a job in his life, hates cops, hates law enforcement, certainly hates ICE. hates Israel, has promised to arrest Bibi Netanyahu on the spot if Bibi Netanyahu ever came to New York. And I don’t doubt that he’d try to do it. But witnessing the mayoral candidates all believe that federal immigration law doesn’t apply to New York City, and it’s pure posturing, they know better. They know the law applies, but they’ve got to appeal to New Yorkers. That real weird breed of people who some – I have a poster that I always got a kick out of. It was a New Yorker magazine cover, very famous cover. You can find it online. You can Google it. It shows New York City. It’s a drawing of New York. And then on the other side of the Hudson River, it’s Illinois. It’s California. In other words, New York is just, for them, it’s all that matters. They don’t particularly care often about the country. They just care about what happens in New York. So if a guy comes along and says, I’m going to give you free bus rides and I’m going to freeze the rent and I’m going to send social workers to domestic violence calls, That’s my guy, because that’s New York. Portions of the Mike Gallagher Show, sponsored in part by conservatives for lower health care costs, had a great conversation, great conversation today with a great representative, from just a great guy, Congressman Costello from Pennsylvania, former congressman representing conservatives for lower health care costs. Big Pharma and its big army of lobbyists are working overtime to keep Americans paying the world’s highest prescription drug prices. It doesn’t have to be that way. Big Pharma’s agenda is real easy. Escape any accountability whatsoever. Block free market competition. and keep prices high. That means bigger profits for them and higher costs for families and small businesses. Well, conservatives for lower health care costs warns that their plan would saddle Americans and employers with billions and billions in higher premiums and drug costs. President Trump isn’t backing down. You shouldn’t either. Join the fight. Get off the sidelines. Be engaged. Be involved. Be active. and visit pharmawindfall.com. Your voice can matter. SPEAKER 05 :
How are you doing?
SPEAKER 11 :
Good. How are you?
SPEAKER 05 :
Good. Good. I think I think Saliva can win because if they split up the vote too much between Democrats there and Donald Trump got 44 percent of New York vote.
SPEAKER 11 :
I know, you know, it’s possible. It’s possible. There’s one way. So there’s one way Curtis can win. Cuomo needs to drop out. And I’m so tired of all the pressure that Curtis is receiving. Incidentally, there’s some news today. In a fiery back-and-forth exchange, Curtis has quit his job at WABC Radio. He was a talk show host at WABC prior to having to be taken off the air to run for office. And Curtis has proclaimed he will never set foot in the radio station again. And that’s probably because the owner, who’s a great guy, John Katsimatidis, that guy loves New York. And look, owns a huge supermarket chain. He’s a big builder, a businessman, a philanthropist. And John wants Curtis to drop out. And that has, I guess, so infuriated Curtis that he won’t set foot in ABC again. It’s too bad. All of it just kind of breaks your heart. 800-655-MIKE.
