And I think the first theory is simply that, look, the genders are very different and both sides have their own unique… qualities their own beauty right and their own differences and their own messages their own themes their own things to say and that’s good and we can learn from each other and the other theory my theory is that girls are wrong and uh chick flicks chick flicks are bad and uh and if any men go to hell i mean if you live bad life and you actually go to hell you will spend eternity watching these movies on a loop and you’ll be strapped to a chair what do you think

That’s the interesting thing is that, did you know that female heaven and male hell are the same place? Really? Yes, they’re actually the same place. And that way you can be together forever. And there’s a beauty in that.

Which is different how? You see, guys, I want everybody to know out there, gentlemen, when you are in the room with a woman, you are already outnumbered. One to nothing because she has a veto. All right. I’m right now in the room with two women. This is not good. OK, I’m outnumbered two to nothing. We are going to look at chick flicks. But, you know, one thing we do do agree on. I really do believe that men don’t want to watch a movie to get in touch with their feelings. Doesn’t mean we never do. Like when I watch October Sky and I see the relationship between the dad and his father, does it touch me? Yeah, it does.

Dad and son. Dad and father, yeah. Dad and son. Sorry, I’m looking at the screen juggling things here. Okay, and I’m senile. So if you’re watching this, if I’m seeing the dad and his son in October Sky, it does touch me. There are parts in movies that touch me, but guys don’t go to movies to be touched in that way emotionally, all right, and feel touched and reached, okay? Women do. I believe women want to have their emotions brought out in a movie.
SPEAKER 16 :
I would agree. I mean, for me, because we were talking about what constitutes a chick flick, for me it’s the characters. I want to connect with the characters. I want to see the characters connecting with each other. I don’t necessarily like sad movies. There’s only two sad ones that I actually like, so I’m not going to sign up for Steel Magnolias or anything. But for me, it’s the characters.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, but explain this to me, and Ashley, I’m going to throw it to you. Why do women go to these sad movies so much? Sad movies are almost always watched by women. Once again, folks, I’m not being sexist. I managed movie theaters. I saw the crowds that went to different movies. It’s totally different crowds. Totally different crowds. I went to Wicked for good. Literally well over 90% of the people in the audience were women. And a few guys who were dragged there.

And me, because I had to do a review. So, I mean, that was basically it.

why why do women go to sad movies i mean for me at least it’s the sad movies are allowing me to feel an emotion without feeling guilty about it you know i can sit there and just cry my eyes out at a sad movie and oh well i’m crying because of the movie not because you know i’m hurt by the comment you made yesterday okay um where it’s like i can finally express that sadness i can cry i can openly cry and other people are crying around me and none of us are sitting there going well why are you crying this is ridiculous

You know what? This is a little bit like Rush Limbaugh when he would talk about sports. Why do we love sports? And he said, because it’s passion without consequence. He said there aren’t many areas of life, and I’m paraphrasing here, where you can put your full passion into something that truly doesn’t matter. And there is no consequence. And at the end of this game, nothing that actually affects your life has happened. And yet you get to invest your total passion and let your emotions completely out. And that’s cleansing. It’s helpful. And it actually helps the rest of your life. And I would think that with movies, and I’ve been a little facetious here. I think guys enjoy being emotional in movies too, okay? It’s just different. Yeah. And, yeah, we have different movies. We watch Dodgeball, okay? Yeah. Which was a very moving experience for me. Oh yes, it’s a deep one. It’s a deep one. Okay, well let’s jump into some chick flicks. Are you ready? Let’s do it. Okay, the first one is 10 Things I Hate About You. Yes.

I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick. It even makes me rhyme. I hate it. I hate the way you’re always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh. Even worse when you make me cry.

Okay, so once again, here you have a girl going to tears. Look, folks, it’s actually an outstanding movie. If you haven’t seen 10 Things I Hate About You, I recommend you rent it. You’re going to have a lot of fun, guys and girls. It’s good for everybody. And it’s very funny, but it’s also very touching and has some really good moments. That was a great speech.

A way to give back might be volunteering. It might be going on mission trips. It might be tutoring children, things of that nature.

What are some ways that people can prepare for that, Al? How do people get ready for that retirement when they’re earlier on before they approach that?

Well, I think what people need to do is think in terms of what they really enjoy doing. A gentleman I had on my show a week or so ago has been heavily involved in Gideon’s International, where he gives away Bibles to not only hotels, which is what they’re thought of, but also to high school students and so forth. So by getting involved in these things before retirement, it is a smooth transition then going into retirement. Because then you can devote more time to what it is you love.
