No, no, it’s totally the same, totally the same. The last three, four years, we have been as close – on our picks we’ve been pretty good as all the major shows we have been i mean national shows and we we’ve been now this year is gonna be weird this year i have never seen a draft that is this much okay you’ve got to hold it because we’re gonna crap shoot we’re gonna get to that piece of it yes and yes folks this this year is gonna be much wonkier which we’ll get to here oh yeah a little bit but i guess andy we’re gonna start off with where is the draft this year
SPEAKER 08 :
Do you know? Do you care? It is in Pittsburgh. Yeah, but the question is, where is Pittsburgh? Well. Nobody knows. Okay. I actually have some friends from Pennsylvania. They live here now, and they love it. And they’re Eagles fans, so I’m not sure if that’s worse or better. I can give them a hard time.
SPEAKER 03 :
It is worse. Fair enough. It’s worse.
SPEAKER 08 :
It is fans in the world. And Andy, the kids in Pittsburgh today didn’t have school. Or they did have school, but it was remote learning. Did you hear that? No, I didn’t. So they shut the city down for today and tomorrow because they were worried about the traffic and everything around with it. So the Pittsburgh area schools decided to go remote learning.
SPEAKER 03 :
Why are they doing this when I mean, last year, I understand because it was held in a glorious place called Green Bay. And, I mean, let’s face it, it’s the home of football.
SPEAKER 08 :
That’s about what’s all in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

That is all that’s in Green Bay.

It’s the home of the Packers.

It’s hilarious. When you actually think about it, it is one of the wildest things. Well, then you get to this year. It is in Pittsburgh. Obviously, Steelers fans are rabid. The terrible towels are going to be everywhere.

I like the Steelers. I always have.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, I’m… You’re an NFC team. I really don’t like any AFC team. Fair enough. And maybe with the Steelers, there’s just something about the fans. I don’t know what it is.
SPEAKER 03 :
I’m not a huge fan. You know what I love is their history of coaching.
SPEAKER 08 :
They’ve had that. Oh my gosh, if they had a string of coaches. I think my beef with the Steelers is I feel like they actually have overrated coaches. Not that Mike Tomlin was overrated.
SPEAKER 04 :
Bill Cowher?
SPEAKER 08 :
Cowher Power? Yes, I think Cowher was overrated. He’s in the Hall of Fame and he won, what, one Super Bowl?
SPEAKER 03 :
But he didn’t have that good of a team.
SPEAKER 08 :
I don’t care. Oh, come on. What are we giving out now? Participation trophies?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, you got to the Super Bowl and you won a Super Bowl because… If you win a Super Bowl with that team, which wasn’t that good, that’s impressive.

I mean, you had Ben Roethlisberger, you had Jerome Bettis.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, what was it? Jimmy Johnson. He won Super Bowls with a team that was so much better than everybody else, it was ridiculous. I agree with you. You and I could have coached that team to a Super Bowl.
SPEAKER 08 :
What did Jimmy win? Was it three?

Something like that.

Yeah, so he was supposed to win, and he did.
SPEAKER 03 :
Back at a time when offensive linemen were roughly the size of our wives… His was 330 across in all athletes, okay? I mean, they were just running people over.
SPEAKER 08 :
It was insane. And you’re not wrong. The Cowboys of the early 90s were just absolutely insane.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. That’s why they won so much. Yeah, it was built off the Herschel trade. They got the Herschel trade. They got a zillion first-round picks, and they made them all count. And by the way, their GM was incredible.
SPEAKER 08 :
Because Jerry had bought the team. Obviously, but he wasn’t the de facto GM yet at that point, was he?
SPEAKER 03 :
Not that I remember, but I don’t remember.
SPEAKER 08 :
He couldn’t have been because they would have messed up those picks, as we’re going to get to here in a little bit.
SPEAKER 03 :
Look, the Cowboys era is something I’ve tried to drive out of my mind. Especially you. But what I’m saying is, when you’ve got a team that’s that much better than everybody, it’s not impressive to win it. True. Okay, but Bill Cowher won it with a team that, in my opinion, was like the fifth or sixth best team.
SPEAKER 08 :
My only thing with Bill, I just feel like the Steelers and a lot of East Coast teams get way over-talked just because of the media bias, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, totally.
SPEAKER 08 :
They do. I mean, granted, I think the Packers get their fair share because the NFL and, like you say, the home of football. We’re God’s team. You’re God’s team. You had God’s son as your coach and Vince Lombardi and all the different things, right? But ultimately, I just don’t like… Maybe it’s just the coastal teams, right? Because I feel like all of the coastal teams get a little bit more play than the rest of us.
SPEAKER 03 :
They do, but let me ask you something. Outside of the Rams, who have really surged? Do you feel like the L.A. teams have, I mean, people haven’t cared as much? Well, yeah. The Chargers, nobody cares. The Raiders, they had to run from there and go to Vegas. The L.A.
SPEAKER 08 :
fan is arguably the worst fan. They’re awful. The only close, actually I think it’s one and two, is the Boston fan. Because you look at the Boston fan throughout sports, not just the NFL. You look at the Patriots fans, the Bruins fans, the Celtics fans, the Red Sox fans.
SPEAKER 03 :
The meanest fans are the Philly fans.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, but they’re in their own category.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s true.

They’re just mean. They’re not overly… You know, I mean, the rambunctious, but they’re not like boisterous, whatever, versus Boston. They’re not annoying you as much. Personally, they just slash your tires. Exactly. Which I can handle. You don’t put an entire get new time where you go to Boston and that’s a whole different conversation. And then on top of that, but then you go back to L.A. L.A. is the pretentious fan. Where they really have too much going on in LA.

Correct. They know nothing. They just know that the Dodgers spend a lot of money, so I’m going to root for the Dodgers. The Lakers won because of Phil Jackson and Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal in the early 2000s. I know LeBron won the COVID trophy. And then as far as the Rams go, yeah, the Rams won. But really, that was a team that was… I mean, it’s not a Los Angeles team.

Richard, I don’t want to go watch football in a stadium where I may see guys in leotards.

It is a cool stadium.

I like it. But I will say this. I’m with you. L.A. fans are pretentious. Boston fans are terrible. John from Cheyenne is not going to like this. But New York fans are equally. The Jets and the Giants. Between them, they have four first-round picks. Yes.

When you’ve got two picks for them in the first round, you’ve got two picks for the Chiefs, and to top it off, that you’ll have Cowboys fans there, the fact that you have Giants fans in New York City, two picks for the Cowboys, and obviously the rivalry that is the Cowboys and Giants.

I am angry about this draft already. Okay. I’m mad.

Okay, I’m going to set you up. Okay. So, folks, in most NFL drafts, there’s a certain quality of player. And not only draft pundits, but teams can sort of see ahead of time what kinds of players are available, right? Oh, yeah. And, Charlie, you can fade the music or whatever. Yeah. So there’s just all sorts of – there’s just different markers, right, Andy? Just from scouting to overall play of the season before. Right. And for a few years it’s kind of been wonky because guys got extra years because of COVID, and so maybe a guy was staying an extra year. It is getting weird because you do have NIL that’s at play now, and so a guy who maybe was going to come out, again, probably like a third or fourth rounder, maybe even a second rounder, he’s going to stay for another year and maybe become a first. There’s all sorts of things. Right. This year is not a super high-quality year. However, I don’t know if that makes me mad, but you are very upset.
SPEAKER 03 :
I am.
SPEAKER 08 :
You’re really angry.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay, here’s why I’m mad. Tell me. Now, you know, the last several years, we’ve looked at the top 10 picks, and we’ve been very confident.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yep, I agree with you.
SPEAKER 03 :
And we’ve nailed virtually all of them. We really have. Or come very close. Like, we’ll put somebody at 7, and he goes to 8 or 6. Yes, yes. And we’ve been very confident. This year… I am angry because of the teams that are in the top 10.
SPEAKER 08 :
Because of the teams in the top 10.
SPEAKER 03 :
Now, you would expect bad teams in the top 10. I get that, okay? But I’m looking at these teams, and I already know we are going to see a historic and historic amount of stupid tonight. I’m predicting stupid upon stupid upon stupid. Now, most years you can count on either the Cardinals or the Jets or the Browns doing something ridiculous and blowing up the draft.
SPEAKER 08 :
And the Jets have two times, or I think both the Jets and the Browns have four opportunities between the two to make themselves a fool, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. And the thing is, is that they’ll do something. So here you’ve got a beautiful, tidy little 10, you know, first 10 players, 12 players, whatever. And along come the Cardinals and take somebody who should have gone 25. All right.
SPEAKER 08 :
You are correct.
SPEAKER 03 :
And you’re just like and now that shuffles the deck. Yeah. You know, and you feel like you’re at a poker table and you should be able to draw that next ace. Right. And somebody gives you a five and you’re just like, I just lost 50 bucks and I’m mad. This is what I mean. OK, we’ll get into this later. But the Jets have a very obvious pick that they should make, and I think they’re not going to make it tonight. The Cardinals have a very obvious pick they should make. I don’t think they’re going to make it tonight. The Titans have an obvious pick they should make. I don’t think they’re going to make it tonight. The Browns have an obvious pick they should make. I don’t think they’re going to make it tonight. They’ve actually got a couple good options. I think they’re going to blow it all. I am looking at a bunch of teams that I think – the Cowboys – I think are going to be totally stupid tonight. They don’t pick until number 12. They need a defender. Guess what? All the top defenders are going to be gone by 10 or 11. Okay, what are they going to do? They’re probably going to reach and do something stupid when, hey, guess what? Why don’t you get the best player? Andy, I can’t believe I’m going to do this.
SPEAKER 08 :
I’m going to defend these teams for a second.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, my.
SPEAKER 08 :
And the only reason I’m going to is you generally can’t choose where you’re at in the draft, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
True.
SPEAKER 08 :
It goes on record. True. Some teams help themselves more than others. And you can’t pick when you have a good pick, right? There’s some times that it’s fortune. Right. You know, fortune, good luck, whatever. And we can all agree there is luck in sports, whether everyone wants to agree with it or not. Now, you can argue that you can make your own luck. Right. And you can be bad and get a higher pick. But this is not a year to do it. And so for folks out there, again, we kind of mentioned it. This is not considered a really high quality draft, at least at the top. Now, Andy, I think in the middle rounds, which we’ll get to in a little bit, the second, third, fourth, which, by the way, folks… Oh, there’s a lot of good players. Yes, there’s seven rounds in the NFL draft, and there’s generally 32 picks per round, but in certain rounds, rounds three through seven, they can award what’s called compensatory picks for what happens in the offseason by losing players, or if you get a coach or a front office executive, we’re not going to get to the nitty-gritty. But really, Andy, to me, the strength of this draft is… end of round two through the middle of round four. Yeah, I agree. And the reason we say that, folks, is because you’re probably at the end of the first round this year, or even the middle of the first round, Andy, drafting a player that in a strong draft is probably a second round pick. So you’re drafting a guy maybe, what would you say, 15, 20 picks too soon? Yeah. I would agree. So in defense of these teams… This is a year where there’s a million things that could happen.
SPEAKER 03 :
True, but the top end has some terrific players.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, so with that being said.
SPEAKER 03 :
Really quick here.

Yes, you go ahead.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay, but really quick. And one other. You’ve got a wide receiver who’s probably going to go to the Giants number 10. I’m going to just.

You’re teasing your pick because, Andy, you do have the even numbers.

I do have the even numbers today because, you know, I’m even. You’re a very odd fellow. I am odd.

We’re totally going with that. You know, the guy has more injuries than the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It’s just a flesh wound. He’s sitting there, no arms, no legs, and saying, come back, you pansy. This is a guy who has so many injuries. Yeah, I know he’s a great player, but come on.

Okay, we’re talking an ACL, a collarbone, a hammy. I mean, the guy’s made of glass. He’s going to probably go No.

This is the thing. And by the way, I love the player, but that’s too high for a guy with that many injuries.
SPEAKER 08 :
You’ve got another guy, which we’ll get to, that is a pass rusher who’s really good, but he’s got short arms. Very short. And generally speaking in the NFL, just so you guys know, this is a little tidbit of information. If you want to be a scout and feel like you know what you’re talking about at the water table or the water cooler, if you’ve got long arms and you’re fast and you’re big – you’re pretty good, especially to get to the quarterback. But if you are fast and big but you have short arms, it’s really easy for the offensive tackle to get his arms on you.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, by the way, that’s Reuben Bain. If you had arms as short as his and I tried to high-five you, I’d have to take a running start. Fair enough.
SPEAKER 08 :
So with that, Andy, I do want this. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 03 :
Really quick here, one last thing. Remember when Patrick Sertain was in the draft? Yes, I do. We actually predicted he would go higher than the Broncos.
SPEAKER 08 :
We didn’t think he’d be there.
SPEAKER 03 :
No, we didn’t think he’d be there. So when he came to the Broncos, guess what? Easy pick, right? Absolutely. You don’t do the stupid thing and try to outfox the entire league. You just take him. Okay. And they did. And it’s paid off great. He’s great. I just think I’m going to see a lot of stupid tonight. That’s why I’m mad. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, I was going to say, and I think for folks, that does happen in the draft a lot, right? Is a player falls because a team in front of them either reaches or they, you know, each team evaluates a prospect differently or prospects, I should say. Andy, three names. Okay. That you think are not the most name recognition, but that are the top tier of the top tier.
SPEAKER 03 :
The best players in the draft?
SPEAKER 08 :
That are the A-plus players in this draft.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay. I believe the best player in this draft, and I wouldn’t draft him first, but I think he’s the best player in the draft, is Jeremiah Love, the running back out of Notre Dame.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
But running backs, I wouldn’t take him that high.
SPEAKER 08 :
This is regardless of position. We’ll talk about that in a second.
SPEAKER 03 :
The guy is the second coming of LaDainian Tomlinson, Saquon Barkley. He’s that good. And by the way, two years ago, Saquon should have won MVP. You really should. If they always give it to a quarterback, I don’t agree. Andy, Andy.
SPEAKER 08 :
Come on. You and Walt did this a few years ago with Saquon, and you get me all fired up because we start talking about running backs.
SPEAKER 03 :
You were right. The Giants shouldn’t have drafted him because they weren’t ready.
SPEAKER 08 :
You’ve got to have an offensive line that’s ready. Andy, no team in the top, and I’m with you. No team in the top—I don’t want to say top 10. No team in the top five in most cases should be drafting a running back that high. Fair enough.
SPEAKER 03 :
But—and because why? Your team isn’t good enough, and he’s going to get beat up for two years.
SPEAKER 08 :
Because the running back is such a dependent position. Right. It’s really hard to justify that pick. And because if you are in the top five generally, there’s a reason for it.
SPEAKER 03 :
But really quick here. Last year, do you really think— that the MVP should have been a quarterback last year or the defensive end for the Browns?
SPEAKER 08 :
It probably should have been Miles Garrett.
SPEAKER 03 :
You got that right. I don’t think MVP, I think it should go to the best player.
SPEAKER 08 :
It absolutely should. Well, the MVP, quick sidetrack, yeah. It really should, but it’s a quarterback award.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, well, you know what? It shouldn’t be. It should go to the best player. Miles Garrett was the best player in the NFL last year. He was. Hands down. Saquon Barkley was the best player in the NFL the year before. You are correct. Hands down. Okay, really quick here. My top three players are Jeremiah Love, Arvel Reese, I believe is number two. Okay. And number three, I’m going to go Fernando Mendoza, the quarterback of Indiana. I do believe he’s that. Well, you know what? No, no, no, no. I’m going to drop him out of the top three. I’m going to go Sonny Stiles. Linebacker for Ohio State.

And I love David Bailey. Don’t get me wrong. I love him too. Okay. What do you think?

He’s a safety for Ohio State. He started his career at Alabama, was one of the rare – blue-chip guys to transfer because you have some guys that transfer in college, but most of the top guys, they’re going to be paid accordingly, and so they’re going to stay at the school that they’re at as long as they’re at a top-tier school. He was one of the where-ones to transfer.

I wish you were not too young to have watched Ronnie Lott.

And again, folks, these are pass rushers that we’re talking about, and we’ll get into them a little bit more. But I wanted to kind of throw these names out, Andy, so people can kind of understand. And we’re not a consensus. A lot of years, Andy, you have a real consensus on the top five to ten guys.

This year you don’t. Folks, if you were to Google NFL mock draft, a lot of times of the top 10 picks, you’ll have probably, I don’t know, Andy, maybe six or seven of them are pretty well, again, slightly varying positions, right, as far as where they’re drafted. But six or seven of them are indicated they’re going to go in the top 10. Yeah. And that’s kind of what we are when we go through our mock draft. We are going to push as much as we want to push to the exact team. We kind of want to get the rough pick that we feel like they’re going to go at.

Yeah. Well, it’s a totally weird year. Here’s another thing, okay? Okay. Animated, folks. Yeah, but your top two or three wide receivers every year are freaks.

Not this year. No. No. Probably the best two wide receivers, not the ones that are going to, because one who shouldn’t go that high will, even though he’s got a million injuries and he’s saying it’s only a flesh wound. Okay. Setting him aside, your top two wide receivers really are Carnell Tate and Makai Lemon, probably. These are not athletic guys. They just do everything right. And by the way, last year, who was the best wide receiver in the league last year? He played for Seattle.

He’s a very good athlete, but he’s not great.

So, Andy, I think you’re right, but here’s why I think this. Harbaugh, if you look at Harbaugh’s career, what did he do with the Ravens more than anything? Good defense, run the ball, don’t play stupid. True. Remember last year, the Giants blew eight games with less than six minutes in the fourth quarter.

One of those being here, yes, you’re correct.
SPEAKER 11 :
What? Yeah. But what I’m saying is Harbaugh is not going to let that happen. I believe that blowing games with six minutes in the fourth quarter is coaching.

I’d agree with that. But here’s a name I’m going to throw out at you and why I think the Giants are going to take it. Ed Reed.

Oh, I know where you’re going. So you think Caleb Downs? Yes. I think he’s looking for the next Ed Reed for the back of his defense. And I think he’ll take him at 5.

Well, you can’t fault him for taking Caleb with downs.

Well, and honestly, I think they will take him, John. I just don’t think it’ll be at 5, but I think that he’ll still be around at 10, which we’re going to get to that. Do you really? I do. I think we’re going to get to that situation here in a second. But, John, I will say this. I think you are correct with Harbaugh, and maybe it’s understated what a really solid coach can do for a team because they come in and they just provide that overall steadying force.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, and last year when they let Gable go, I was going through the roof because they should have canned the defensive coordinator after the Denver game. True. They had a big lead and they blew it. Yeah. And that defensive coordinator should have been gone. My opinion, I know the Denver fans think they came back and had a great win, which they did. No, you guys gave it to us.
SPEAKER 03 :
He should have been gone and deported.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, but the other thing is I don’t think Harbaugh is going to go with the wide receiver in the first round. I think he’s got a count on neighbors coming back.
SPEAKER 03 :
You don’t think he’s going to? What are you going to do? Let me ask you something, John. What if he does draft Jordan Tyson? Okay, ACL, collarbone, hamstring. Now, these are all totally unrelated, so that’s a good thing. They’re unrelated injuries, so you’re not getting the same area to where it’s chronic. But, my goodness.
SPEAKER 11 :
I don’t like getting a guy out of college with that many injuries. Yeah. Because I just – and here’s the other thing. After the draft, how many sleepers are going to be out there that maybe would get picked up as unregistered? Wide receivers, if you got one good one, and we got – I think his last name. I can’t remember. Neighbors. And he got hurt at the beginning of last season.
SPEAKER 03 :
Malik, yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, Malik Neighbors. Excellent player. If you got one good one and two solid 2-3 – control receivers, and you could pick those up in later rounds. That’s why I’d rather not see him waste that pick at either 5 or 10.
SPEAKER 03 :
He is a great athlete, though. He is a great athlete, though. He is a weapon unlike anything else you’ve got on your team except maybe neighbors if he’s healthy.
SPEAKER 08 :
John, I’ve got one for you. What if Andy’s number one player slips to you and you guys can go to Saquon’s second coming here of Jeremiah Love?
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, I don’t ever agree with taking a running back in the first round. You and me, John. Second round, third round, I don’t have a problem. Number one pick in the second round, but first round draft pick of a running back, unless you’re grabbing a Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, Earl Campbell type,
SPEAKER 03 :
He is. I’m not taking him. Jeremiah Love is a bolt of lightning, and he’s also as good a receiver as he is a running back. And, by the way, he’ll even pick up a blitzer. Jeremiah Love is a perfect running back. And if he falls all the way to No. 5, which, by the way, I’m not predicting, yeah, I’d take him.
SPEAKER 11 :
He’s that good. I mean, I just look at Saquon with what the Giants wore last year. And when they picked Saquon, all his years with the Giants, he never had a full season. He was hurt every year.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, but you guys picked him before he got an offensive line. That was stupid. You did what the Raiders did last year. And you’re not supposed to pick a guy on that level when he’s going to be running into a brick wall. You guys actually have some offensive linemen now. That’s not a big need for you.
SPEAKER 11 :
We have some offensive linemen, but… are they going to be ready and be a better unit this year than they were last year? Yes. Because Gable was a good offensive side to the ball coach. He was.
SPEAKER 08 :
John, I think for you, I actually agree with Andy here. I mean, again, I’m with you. I hate taking a running back there. I just think a lot of last year and what your struggles were was not based on the team and the talent. I mean, I think there was a little bit of a talent gap there. But I think a lot of it was coaching. And I think you’ve rectified that with Harbaugh. And I think that you can use this draft. And they’ve signed some free agents that’ll help. I just think that they can use this draft. And the biggest thing for you next year is you’ve got to see Jackson Dart. You’ve got to see what you have in that quarterback. The same way that the Broncos kind of had to see what they had in Bo Nix because he flashed a little bit last year. They’re similar. But if he doesn’t figure out how to not get hurt… then you’re going to be in the same boat here in a few years and having to take a quarterback, which, granted, isn’t the worst thing.
SPEAKER 11 :
And I’m hoping the new quarterback’s coach explains to Dart – that it’s okay to step out of bounds one yard sooner and not get whacked.
SPEAKER 08 :

In their case, you look at it and just say, well, injuries. Injuries kill you.

Well, injuries and a few other things, I agree. But yes. To me, that division… I do like their QB. I’m with you. Well, again, can he come back into form? Because he got hurt last year, too. Granted, it was a freak thing, but… Either way, Andy, I think that there’s some fruit for the taking if you’re the Giants. But, alright, with that being said, before we kind of, you know, obviously wrap this segment up, I do have to get to what I was asking you, which is… For us Bronco fans, Raiders first pick. Last year they took Ashton Genting. Didn’t really work out. Hopefully for him, I don’t care about the Raiders, hopefully for him on a personal level, he didn’t ruin his career just through being on a bad Raiders team. But I think the only consensus in this draft, Andy, is Fernando Mendoza’s going one, right? And we all kind of got to watch him as he went through the college football playoff. He played for Indiana in the championship. And he’s from Cal. I really like the guy. I’ll be honest, folks. I think he’s a good Christian guy. I love his demeanor. I love his character. He’s the total package. I’m not sold on him completely as a player. But as a character and kind of what the type of mentality that you want as a quarterback, especially as a franchise quarterback, I think he’s there. But Andy, give me your breakdown and everyone listening, because this is the guy that the Broncos fans are potentially facing for the next 10, 15 years, or at least the Raiders hope so. Yeah, I think he’s the total package.
SPEAKER 03 :
Do I think that he comes right in and is a top five QB? No, I do not. But that’s okay. I think he’s going to grow into it. I think he’s more gifted than Bo Nix. No offense. I think he can make all the throws. I think he has wonderful vision. I think he’s going to get beat up the first year. Well, that’s why they got Kirk Cousins. Yeah, I mean, come on. That’s life, right? I think that he… is smart has high character I think he’s a leader I think he’s very accurate and here’s the key you don’t want to take a I didn’t like when Sam Bradford was taken that high okay because I I wondered about the deep throws I wondered you know could he make all the throws that well this guy can okay he can make them all and no he doesn’t have a rifle but he has a good arm and really good anticipation I I like this player I think he’s going to be terrific
SPEAKER 08 :
My biggest hurdle of trying to get over with him is I don’t know if I see the off-schedule plays being made enough, which feels like in the NFL today. And it’s why, while Bo Nix isn’t as talented… I don’t think. And he’s not the most arm talented quarterback in the NFL today. His ability to make off schedule plays is really kind of what sets him apart. And even last season has continued to. And I just and you see, again, the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL today. Right. Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen’s Lamar Jackson, even Joe Burrow. They make really great off-schedule plays. That’s sort of what sets the quarterbacks apart. With Mendoza, it felt like Indiana, great team, great scheme, great system. It felt like when it kind of got out of rhythm, he got out of whack.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, and he will as a rookie. Here’s the thing with Bo Nix. I think the strongest thing about Bo Nix is your defense, right? Yes. Raiders don’t have that. The reason Bo Nix is always so great in the fourth quarter is because your defense, your defense wears down a team. They just wear them down. They’re a tornado. OK, it is like your defense is like trying to run directly into a tornado. There are houses flying by you and you’re trying to. And what that does, Richard, is this by the fourth quarter. The opposing defense, the defense that Nix is facing, they’re exhausted. Why? Because they’ve been on the field too long. And by the fourth quarter, you guys, you’re facing exhausted defenses, and that’s when a quarterback can make a lot of, shall we say, off-schedule throws because the defense can’t cut off those lanes. They can’t make – they cannot burst on the ball like they did in the first quarter. They cannot bring the heat like – they have no heat. In the fourth quarter, Bo Nix has virtually no heat put on him at all. Nope, you’re correct. He is – out there playing pitch and catch, whereas most quarterbacks in the fourth quarter are having to still play quarterback. In the fourth quarter, Bo Nix has a very, very, very easy job because the opposing defense is completely worn out. It’s the team.
SPEAKER 08 :
Because they’ve been out there too long. Absolutely. It’s the team around them, Andy, and I agree with you.
SPEAKER 03 :
By the way, he’s going to improve, I think, by this year. you’re going to see more of Bo Nix cutting people up in the second quarter, not the fourth.
SPEAKER 08 :

Oh, compliments, Andy.

What a trade. And I’m not saying that you took Miami to the cleaners. I thought it was a win for both teams because they’re rebuilding. I think that’s great for them. They need to rebuild. Okay, but tell me about how Jalen Waddell changes your offense.
SPEAKER 08 :
Absolutely. So for folks that don’t know, we traded our first pick, which would have been the 30th pick, Andy, this year, tonight. So if you don’t see the Broncos pick tonight, which is very highly likely that you don’t see them pick, this is wise because we traded for Miami’s… I guess I would say number one wide receiver. I know Tyreek Hill was down there last year, Andy, but he got injured and kind of fell off in Miami’s building. So Jalen Waddell out of Alabama. I think this is year six for him, if I’m not mistaken, five or six-ish. He’s a speedy guy, but he’s not just a speedy guy, Andy. He’s a pretty polished route runner. He knows the offense, or he knows any offense. He was coached well. He’s been coached hard by Nick Saban, which I think translates well to the Sean Payton style of coaching. And we were just talking on the break. He makes everyone’s life around him easier, and the reason is because he has this beat, and so teams have to acknowledge that, right? They can’t shield everyone or shift the defense over to Cortland Sutton, which is what happened last year. And so I think that not only does Cortland Sutton benefit, I think Marvin Mims benefits, I think our tight ends benefit, and of course, as we were just talking about last segment, I think Bo Nix benefits from that. Yes. Because he is a… He’s a changing… And the way I look at it is this, Andy. And there’s some different aspects of the trade. We’re not going to get into the nitty-gritty. I feel like the player we would have gotten at 30 is not nearly the player that Jalen Waddell is now. And our window as the Broncos… Is now. Is now. The next three years. And the reason I say that, folks, real quick on this, Andy, is because of the rookie contracts and the rookie contract structure… they have to basically, if you get picked in the first round, you’re locked into your team for four, potentially five years at a really reduced rate based on what a veteran’s going to get.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 08 :
And so which means you’re dedicating less of your salary cap to the quarterback position. And if you can get a quarterback that can play well, Jaden Daniels, Bo Nix, Caleb Williams with the Bears. You can devote other resources to other parts of your team. And there’s not even like a, if we wanted to pay Bo, we can’t. It’s just not in the, it’s out of the salary. It’s out of the CBA.
SPEAKER 03 :
Let me jump in there for a moment because a lot of people don’t seem to understand, not people who are listening, our listeners are brilliant, but I’m talking about some of the people on air. on NFL Network. I don’t think they understand the incredible importance of that. Yes. Okay. And for those who don’t know, who has won the most Super Bowls? Who won the most Super Bowls ever? What quarterback? That would be Tom Brady. Yeah. And Tom Brady routinely would take about $15 million below market value per year. Yes. Okay. Which is incredible. Now, what does that mean? That was when the salary cap was not nearly as high as it was.
SPEAKER 08 :
Not $300 million, about $150 million.
SPEAKER 03 :
Exactly. $15 million was 10% of your cap.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 03 :
And he would take 10% of the cap less than he was worth, and so you had 10% of the cap more to invest and get a little better left guard, get a little better linebacker, get a little better corner, and hold on to this guy. That is what Tom Brady did. So, because he took… so much less money, and then he would also basically help act as a GM. Yep. He won a lot more games just because of that. So that is why when we look at having a young quarterback like you have with Knicks, what a great advantage that is. And Green Bay, we’re paying $55 million a year for our guy. You’re paying peanuts.
SPEAKER 08 :
We are. And here in three years, we’ll be probably having to pay $60 million for Bo if he continues to develop like you and I think he will likely develop. And that changes the game. But with that said, Andy, we have a few other trades that happened. This was a busy, busy offseason. One trade in particular didn’t happen. We were just talking about the Raiders. They had a defensive end, Max Crosby. They traded him to the Ravens. Or so we thought. Right. But he didn’t, right? Because in a trade, there’s, well, two sides have to agree. They agreed on compensation. However, the Ravens failed him on a physical. There’s lots of other nitty gritty. We won’t bore the folks with it. That’s kind of a big deal, Andy, because that would have taken the Ravens from the number one overall pick. And then they also would have had the number 14 pick, which they could have paired a wide receiver or potentially a running back or line. Or guess what? They could have taken that pick and traded it. To do something else with it, right? Right. That’s a massive trade that didn’t happen. Yes.
SPEAKER 03 :
Probably should have. It’s huge. And I think it would have been terrific, actually, for the Raiders. It would have been fantastic. The Raiders, over the next two years, would have been building a terrific team.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes. And they, well, I think they won’t set up much for the future.
SPEAKER 03 :
As much.
SPEAKER 08 :
At the same time, Andy, we had several other trades, right? We kind of mentioned it with John from Cheyenne. The Bengals traded for the Giants defensive tackle, Dexter Lawrence, who’s a really good player. Excellent. Excellent player, right? He’s a big run stuffer. He rushes the passer really well. But… Andy, you talked about this at the start, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
He’s commanding top dollar.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, not only top dollar, Andy. Again, folks, if you didn’t join us at the top, Andy is angry. Still is angry. Furious. Yes. Because he says teams make, I have to be careful, Andy, because my kids will yell at me. Teams make silly decisions at certain points in time, right? That’s the Christian way to put it. That’s right. This was one of those because the Bengals traded a top 10 pick. The 10th pick. for a defensive lineman that they had to pay.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, they’re paying the 10th pick for the right to give Dexter Lawrence insane money. Yes. And I love Dexter Lawrence. Excellent player. I thought he was the best player, not the best, but the most important player on the defense for the Giants last year.
SPEAKER 08 :
Because he was right in the middle. But he’s a defensive tackle.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I know. But you know what I mean. Everything revolved around him. I get it. But my goodness. They’re going to have to pay him through the roof. And they had to give up the 10th pick. The Giants took them to the cleaners. They robbed them blind. John belongs in jail.
SPEAKER 08 :
John does because it was his decision.
SPEAKER 03 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 08 :
Speaking of John, his counterpart. So the Giants give themselves two top ten picks. Yep. And that’s about the only spot on this draft, Andy, where I feel like you are kind of getting some top tier talent. Although I think between five and 15, it’s kind of all the same. Then you have the Cowboys who have two first round picks. The Jets who have two first round picks. I think the Browns have two first round picks. Right. And my dreaded Chiefs have two first round picks as well. Lots of trades, Andy.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, but the Chiefs gave up a lot to get that.
SPEAKER 08 :
They gave up a very good corner. They did give up a good corner, but that’s kind of the Chiefs’ mentality. They don’t pay corners. Which, by the way, if there’s any indication, I don’t know if there’s any better outside of Fernando Mendoza to the Raiders. The Chiefs, at least with that second picker, got to be taking a corner.
SPEAKER 03 :
I would think so. Well, first or second, it depends on how the draft falls. But I would say this. You don’t have to worry about the Chiefs for a while. In fact, Denver. I love it, Andy.
SPEAKER 08 :
I love to hear that.
SPEAKER 03 :
Denver is in an easy division. No, you are, because the Raiders are rebuilding. The Chiefs are a mess. The Chiefs are a mess. The Raiders are rebuilding. The only team you have to worry about is if the Chargers get healthy. If they get healthy, they are a serious team, because I thought that their quarterback last year was the best quarterback in the NFL. It wasn’t his fault he had no line.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, and the Chargers got snakebit last year. There’s no doubt about it.
SPEAKER 03 :
What he did with what was around him was amazing.
SPEAKER 08 :
The thing that worries me about the Chargers and the Chiefs, they both have good coaches. They both have good quarterbacks. Can Herbert stay healthy? He always seems to make, well, he always kind of seems to get dinged up because of his offensive line.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, both of his tackles, his Pro Bowl tackles were both out.
SPEAKER 08 :
And they should be back this year. Yes. Andy, I think the Mahomes injury for the Chiefs is a bigger, honestly, if I was the Chiefs, and I’ve been talking to a Chiefs fan about this, they would keep him out for the first month of the season or more.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, put him on the pup list.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes, and if they make the playoffs next year, great. By the way, again, we’ll mention it again, a great draft next year.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
You know, a fantastic draft.
SPEAKER 03 :
And once again, with the Broncos, way to go. This was the year to get rid of a first-round pick. Now, it’s going to be good for the Miami Dolphins because they’re building, they’re young, they’re building. But it works out. You gave up a pick in a weaker draft.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, and I think one thing to look at is speaking of trades, right, Andy? I think for folks to look at tonight, if you follow and I know a lot of you do, I know you guys, a lot of you don’t necessarily follow football as close as Andy and I, but you still follow and you kind of follow what happens and to see how close we were, how bad we were, whatever it might be. I would be curious, Andy, where a lot of trades in the draft usually involve obviously picks in this year’s draft. Picks next year are considered a premium generally, although actually in trade values they’re actually considered worse, but different side points there.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, I understand.
SPEAKER 08 :
Next year’s draft is incredible, at least on the surface. It’s loaded. It’s loaded with top-end talent, and it’s deep. It’s top-end talent through the middle of the second round. So if you’re at one of those teams and you can get yourself a second rounder, a second, third rounder, or even a second, first rounder. You’re living the dream. You are living the dream, which is what the Cowboys have as a result of your lovely Packers, don’t they?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes, they do.
