Welcome to Sportsman of Colorado, Colorado’s premier outdoor radio show heard every Saturday afternoon on KLZ 560 with insights on hunting, fishing, archery, guns, and ammo from Colorado’s top outfitters featuring the industry’s leading experts on how to enhance your experience in the great outdoors. Now, here’s your host, Scott Watley.
SPEAKER 06 :
Welcome to Sportsman of Colorado. Thank you so much for being with us. Hey, our show is brought to you by the Mile High Hunting Fish Expo. March 20th through the 22nd, we’re going to be at the brand new National Western Center Expo Hall. More will be coming about that in months to come, but certainly wanted to mention that in our… First guest today is a great gentleman that we’ve had on here one other time before, Kevin, or a couple of times actually, Kevin Jones with Seekins Precision, and they are a great sponsor for us there at the Mile High Hunting Fish Expo, and I wanted to get Kevin back on here again. So, Kevin, thanks for being with us. How are you, sir?
SPEAKER 13 :
I’m doing great. Hey, Scott, thanks for having me on again.
SPEAKER 06 :
You bet, you bet. Man, in the middle of hunting season, got to visit with you yesterday a little bit. You’ve already had some success, so, man, congrats.
SPEAKER 13 :
A little bit, yeah, thank you. Yeah, I appreciate it. Luckily, I work for a great company that lets us take a little time off and get our own opportunities on some animals that are running around in the woods.
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely. You know, I was talking with actually a lady yesterday at a gun shop I was at, and she’s going out for the very first time, and she was like, how does all this work and how do you do it? And I see, you know, and how long do you have to sit there? It’s so fun when you, when you, you know, you’ve done something and then you, you, you hear somebody that’s brand new. And I said, look, you can make all the plans in the world and you should plan. You should have all that. But I said, I’m telling you, it rarely goes according to plan. You know? And I said, you’ll be sitting there. Yeah. yeah a plan is only as good until you get punched in the face yeah yeah and i said you you may be sitting there for hours and hours and all of a sudden you’re looking to the left you turn your head the right and there he is you know you never and you’re just like man it just like appeared out of nowhere you know so i said it it’s a lot of fun so i said just get ready for it but um Hey, Seekins Precision and the Seekins Experience is what you guys call it now. Now I can call it that from the 7PRC that I’ve got. And, you know, like I said, we spoke yesterday. We were with our friends, LT Arms, and they helped me out a little bit with some loads for it. And I will say the factory loads that you gave me were very, very good, by the way. So what you told me to shoot through it actually worked. But, you know, I just wanted to – I said, hey, I’ve never really had what I would call a precision rifle like this. I wanted to do everything we could. So I put a Leopold scope, got the custom dial system, everything. And, man, it is – amazing, you know, from trigger and all the different things. And I’m going to be very honest with you. When I first took it in over there, they have gunsmithing. I said, would you guys do anything? And I promise you, this is what I said. I said, would you guys do anything to this rifle? And they go, Nope, put a scope on it. I mean, honestly, I mean, they said, man, there’s nothing to do. They said that rifle is awesome.
SPEAKER 13 :
So with, with the new features we added this year, we’ve, we basically have thrown everything in the kitchen sink at, at what Seekin’s Precision believes a hunting rifle should look like, should come with, should have everything ready to go. I mean, we still get questions, you know, how do I attach this to it? I’m like, you just get that and you put it on. It’s super easy. I don’t have to drill into my stock? Nope. It’s like the bottom of the forend is already ready to go. It’s got M-lock slots. Pick what you want to put on it and away you go. And so we’ve really tried to make it You know, the best idea of what a bolt-action rifle should be, should feel like, should shoot like. But the big one is just make it really easy for customers to put on what they need or what they feel they need onto the rifle and be ready to go out there and shoot.
SPEAKER 06 :
you know do it do whatever it is that they want to do with it sure and you know i was talking to those guys yesterday about it and i said you know i for for much of my life all i did was buy rifles off the shelf and you don’t know what you don’t know until you hold something like a sequence precision and you feel the trigger you feel the gun you just feel and man just what a vast difference
SPEAKER 13 :
Made in the USA goes a long way, I’ll tell you right now. You can feel it in every part of that rifle, from the tip of the muzzle all the way to the back of the buttstock. Everything on that gun is made under one roof, too. So the fit and finish, the parts, the way they all come together, it’s all done under one roof. So we get to control every bit of that quality, everything down from, The little firing pin to the bolt head to the action itself, the barrels. I mean, we make it all. So it’s very much when you put a gun in your hand that’s one made in the USA and two under one roof. It goes a long way when you can tell.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, absolutely. Kevin Jones is with us once again at Seekins Precisions. Check out the website, SeekinsPrecision.com. And there are dealers here in the Denver area, and we’re working on some more as well. But who are a few folks here in our Denver, Colorado area with Seekins right now?
SPEAKER 13 :
I’d say probably your biggest guys that you’re going to want to talk to right now that’s got inventory probably on hand for you to go and put your hands on a rifle is going to be the Colorado Springs Shields.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 13 :
And then the, I believe it’s Grand Junction, Colorado. Is that right? I think there’s also a Shields there.
SPEAKER 06 :
And then Loveland probably too.
SPEAKER 13 :
Yep. So those would be, I’m not sure geographically where they’re located for you guys.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right, right, right.
SPEAKER 13 :
Gotcha. But we are always looking for new dealers because we know that our product is, is in high demand and customers want to feel and touch and buy them. So, you know, your gentleman that I talked to at LT Arms, hopefully we’ll start putting some rifles on his shelf there and see what we can do for him.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, absolutely. All right, let’s kind of walk through, for those that missed you last time, let’s kind of walk through the Seekins lineup a little bit.
SPEAKER 13 :
Yeah, absolutely. So our flagship rifle, number one selling gun for us, is going to be the Seekins PH3. That’s the Pro Hunter 3. This is the third iteration of this rifle that we’ve had since we came out with bolt guns probably around 2016, 2017. So it’s had a few iterations. It’s had some upgrades. It’s had new stuff that we’ve added to it this year. And it’s just an all-around well-built rifle. It’s going to come in all the popular calibers right now, all the precision, high-quality factory ammunition stuff that you can get. And we offer it in multiple different calibers, in shorts and in long actions. Those are all available on our website. You can take a peek at that. It’s going to be just a good all-around rifle. The next one up on our lineup is going to be our Element M3. So that is for a guy that likes that traditional rifle feel as far as that stock and the look of the gun, but is looking to save a little bit more weight. So you’re going to get about a pound and a quarter on average of weight savings between a PH3 and an Element M3. So this is a guy that wants to do some more backpacking or get a little bit more out in the field or He’s going to be carrying the gun all day and ounces count for him, but wants a traditional stock. The next one up the lineup is our Element Hunter. So this is basically the same barrel in action that’s inside of the LM M3, but dropped into a folding lightweight chassis. This is the guy that is looking for the ultimate weight savings and the ultimate packability. So this thing… will fold down into a pack or into a scabbard for a horse or into a side-by-side or into a truck or whatever it is that you’re doing. It makes carrying that gun all day really enjoyable. You’re going to appreciate every ounce that you’re going to get a save and the packability of the gun, how small it can get if need be. And then as we continue moving up, we have our SLAM, which is the Element Hunter but comes out of our custom shop. So this gets an upgraded trigger. It gets a true carbon fiber chassis. And it gets built by our best guys. So these things get accuracy tested. They do not leave unless they shoot half-inch, if not better, with factory ammunition. And you get to pick and choose some options like that. So there’s some options available for folks that want to go and get the 9s from Seekin’s Precision. The next gun in the lineup is going to be our Hit Pro M3. This is our heavy chassis rifle. This thing comes in around 11 1⁄2 to 12 pounds empty. So maybe not the one you want to carry hunting, but, hey, man, if that’s what you’re into, go for it. This is a precision rifle meant to reach out and touch things at distance. whether it comes from a tactical side or you just like shooting at distance. A lot of guys like to select it for a good host for coyote or predator hunting because you can mount thermals, you can mount other sorts of devices on it, and it’s a good host for that. And then our gas gun lineup is really popular, too. So we do our SP-10, which is our, I’d say, award-winning, I guess, and it’s done some SOCOM contracts in the past as well. It’s been fielded by special operations units. for the last four or five years. It’s an amazing, high-precision AR-10 platform rifle. And then we have our NX-15 lineup that comes in just your traditional barrel lengths and some quality on just well-built AR platform rifles as well.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. That SP-10, what’s kind of your weight of that empty?
SPEAKER 13 :
They come in around 10.5 pounds, I think, right in there. It’s not going to be the lightest AR-10 on the market. It is really built for precision. It’s for when shots count and missing isn’t an option. You really want to trust on that guy.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, and I tell you, you know, it’s crazy when you just look at the last few years of where rifles have come. And, you know, I mean, man, me growing up and, of course, my dad. I mean, I shot a .300 Weatherby Mag my whole life, you know, pretty much. And now I’m switching over to yours. And I tell you, just to hold that thing and have that less weight, for me, at my age now, you know, in different things. Oh, yeah, absolutely. It’s like I’m holding a feather after holding that thing, you know.
SPEAKER 13 :
Yeah, well, young guys that could hold the 300 Weatherby all day, we want to be quicker, faster on our feet. We want to go after something quicker and get up to the top of the hill or whatever it may be. And by every ounce counts. So depending on what you’re doing or… You know, what you’re looking for, there’s probably a Seekins rifle that’s going to fit your needs and it’s going to perform to your exact standards, if not better.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. A lot of competition in this field. So, I mean, and you’ve kind of already pretty much named a lot of things that you feel make you guys different. But let’s kind of walk through some things that you just tell people. Hey, as you’re shopping for rifles, notice what on a Seekins Precision?
SPEAKER 13 :
The biggest thing that we have that people, like, are drawn to us is is obviously the quality of our product is number one right we we build a rifle made in the usa under one roof and we are not going to sacrifice our quality and so when someone puts our rifle in their hands they can immediately tell that right um but what we find that has drawn most of our customers to us is the buddy that already has one is the friend that already has one and that they are now actually our biggest salespeople. Like, our customers are our best sales team. We like to joke around here that we have, you know, sales guys that are, you know, our jobs are to sell, right? But really the rifles sell themselves, so all we’re here to do is manage expectations. And so we get thrown around a lot here under the roof and say, what do you guys even do? Our rifles sell themselves. And that’s really 100% true. The product sells itself. You know, most customers that have heard about us have heard it from a friend and have typically been drawn or pushed towards us. So our competitors that may be in the same field as us, that maybe build a very high-quality rifle that’s comparable to us, whether it’s a price point or a construction standpoint, you know, these things are on the same page. We feel that our customer satisfaction, our customer service, and our warranty, our lifetime warranty, No questions asked warranty brings new customers in and keeps our old ones buying more rifles every year from us. So we feel that, you know, you have to have the trifecta. You have to have a good quality product. You have to have good service to back it up and making sure you keep that customer relation. That way it can just constantly be a good brand image, right? You want to make sure people are drawn to your brand and your product. And we feel that we’ve built a very good reputation over years. You know, this doesn’t happen overnight. You know, Seekins started in 2004. So, you know, 2024 was our 20th anniversary, and we’re coming up on 22 years in 2026. So for us, that’s a big deal. You know, it was built by Glenn in the garage in Lewiston, building scope rings, and then just grew the company from there. And we are very proud, hardworking Americans that get to work. under the same roof, and we get to build guns for the American working man.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yep, absolutely. If you’re just joining us once again, Kevin Jones is with us at Seekins Precision, seekinsprecision.com. And, hey, if you go to your local gun store and they don’t have Seekins there, tell them they need to check them out because I’m telling you, this is a quality rifle. As I mentioned, I got a 7 PRC, and I tell you, it is a dream to shoot, and I’m actually hoping— As you are hearing this in all transparency, pre-recording this, I’m after a mule deer right now when they’re hearing this, Kevin, with my new Seekin’s Precision. So hopefully I’ll have a good story with that.
SPEAKER 13 :
Well, from what I heard from LT, it’s on you, Scott.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I’m telling you. Well, yeah, I mean, needless to say, with your rifle and just the loads they built, hey, yeah, it is going to be on me for sure. You mentioned you’re scopering different things like that. So what are a few other accessory-type things that people may be interested in with you?
SPEAKER 13 :
The big one’s going to be definitely our scope rings. Obviously, we’d love for you to be into a Seekins rifle, but if you’re not, we totally understand. If you want to make bad decisions in life, that’s on you. But our scope rings are really going to be second to none. We focus on building matched scope rings. So when you get a set of scope rings from Seekins and you look on the bottom of them, there’s actually a serial number. That serial number isn’t for us. That’s for you as the customer to know that you received a matched set a male and a female and a brother and sister set of scope rings that are perfect for whatever scope you end up putting into it. So that’s going to be the gold standard as far as we’re concerned for lightweight, high-quality Aiden USA scope rings that are going to hold onto your scope nice and tight, and they’re not going to weigh you down like all steel rings would do. And that’s kind of how Glenn ended up making them. We do a flurry of AR parts as well, so if you’re looking to build your own You know, those are definitely, you know, we make hand guards, we make our own uppers, we make our own lowers, we make our own safety selector switches, we make our own bolt catches as well. So if you’re just looking for little bits and pieces like that, that can all be found on our website. We do make ARCA rails for attaching a rifle to a bipod or a tripod, whatever your system setup is. So, you know, if you’re looking for a small short rail, we have what’s called our new Hunter ARCA rail. And that is basically an ARCA rail that’s been rotated 90 degrees. So instead of clamping from the left and the right of the ARCA rail, you’re actually clamping on the front and the back. And what that does is it gives your rifle the ability to be attached to a tripod, but a very, very light, very, very low-profile ARCA rail that’s not going to eat into your hand all day long as you’re carrying it before you put it on a tripod. So it makes it for a very comfortable hunter’s ARCA rail.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. And, you know, and this may sound weird because you would think most people involved with making guns would be hunters, but that’s not necessarily always true with companies. But, I mean, I think one thing that’s huge for you guys is the in-the-field experience, so to speak. So you know what feels good in the hand and what doesn’t, right?
SPEAKER 13 :
Oh, absolutely. Yeah. I mean, we are our biggest, you know, our own customer, right? You know, we want to make sure that the rifles that, I mean, I don’t want to carry any other rifle in the field other than our rifle. And the reason for that is because we built a rifle based off of what we would want in the field. You know, we’re out there using it. We are in the canyons, and I say canyons, not hills, of Hell’s Canyon. You know, where I hunt, you know, I could be making a shot at 50 yards. I could be making a shot at 750 yards. You just don’t know. Like we talked about, you know, you get a new hunter, they’ll say, well, what do I prepare for? Well, I hate to say it, but everything, you know. And so you kind of have, you know, we have this, you know, really good, Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER 06 :
Once again, folks, it’s SeekinsPrecision.com. Check them out. And as I mentioned at the beginning of the show, today’s show is brought to you by the Mile High Hunting Fish Expo 2026 Edition. And we are going to be at the National Western Center Expo Hall. And more coming up, of course, in the months to come. But you definitely want to come and check out Seekins Precision. And once again, if you’re in the market for a rifle, highly recommend. Just go check them out. And as Kevin mentioned, Shields is probably at this point going to have your best selection right there and hopefully some stock as well. But just a great, great firearm. And, Kevin, man, we appreciate it. And I’ll be in touch soon and hopefully show you a nice mule deer pick with my Seekins Precision 7 PRC, my friend.
SPEAKER 13 :
I better see some photos, Scott.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right, man. Hey, we appreciate it.
SPEAKER 13 :
Of course, thanks.
SPEAKER 06 :
You betcha. You’re listening to Sports from Colorado. We’ve got to take a quick break, and we’ll be back with more right after this.
SPEAKER 14 :
Here’s why you need personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch on your side. He understands the way the jury thinks. In the context of a personal injury case, you’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. The idea is that you’re going to try to recover so that you can get back to where you were just prior to that incident occurring. What that really means from a jurist’s perspective is that you’re going to be asking them to award you money. So when we talk about fairness, we’re talking about six people that you don’t know. Those six people view the evidence and make a unanimous decision that will decide what the fair value is. When you’re the one who’s hurt, you have a good idea of what you think it’s worth. The question is, can you persuade those other individuals whom you don’t know and were witnesses to believe that’s what the case is worth? Kevin Flesch understands the way the jury thinks. Call now for a free consultation. 303-806-8886

SPEAKER 06 :
Welcome back to the show. Thank you so much for being with us. Well, it’s always a privilege to have our next governor of Colorado in studio, Greg Lopez. How are you, my friend?
SPEAKER 10 :
I’m doing real good. Thanks, Scott. Good to see you.
SPEAKER 06 :
Same here.
SPEAKER 10 :
It’s always a pleasure to sit down with you.
SPEAKER 06 :
Hey, man, I always love having you in. Hey, now you’re going to hear Greg on our Haystack show. You’re going to hear him on Sportsman of Colorado. But this something has come about, and Greg and I have been talking for a few weeks about this, but it has come to fruition, as when Greg talks, there is fruition. He does what he says he’ll do. And Greg has written a couple of letters on the wolf issue to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service about – The laws Colorado has broken with the Wolf reintroduction here. That’s right. All right. So, Greg, first of all, my question is this. Why has no one – we got, what, 18 candidates? Okay. Why has no one ever talked about this whatsoever, but you jumped in the middle of all this, done the research, done the homework – And you’ve laid out all the laws they have violated, the state of Colorado.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. Look, you know, Scott, I know most of these people that are running for governor, and they’re good people, right? But the difference, the main difference between me and them is that I have executive management experience. I know how to manage a company. divisions, a number of divisions, right? Coming back from Congress, I know how the federal government works. People forget that I used to be the director of the United States Small Business Administration here in Colorado. So I know how the bureaucracy works, right? And so as I’m traveling the state, you know, ranchers and producers are like, well, you’re running for governor, are you going to help us? No one is paying attention to our issue with this wolf. No one is worried about the depredation. No one’s worried about our small businesses. They’re not worried about our mental health. You know, what about us? You know, the urban corridor is telling us how to live our lives. And that’s not right. And I totally agree with them. And that’s why my mantra is people over politics. I’m going to protect the people. I’m going to respect and honor people. the quality of life of everybody in Colorado, and more importantly, the way of life of everybody in Colorado. And the urban corridor has no right in telling the rural Colorado or the western slope how they should live and how they should deal with ranching and maintaining their estates. And so I got involved in this because people were asking me to I’m a reader. I do research. And yes, I have sent a letter to the director and the regional director for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and letting them know that based on what has occurred with the reintroduction of the wolf, they are no longer following the Endangered Species Act. CPW has violated not only the Endangered Species Act, but they violated their own plan, their own Colorado wolf reintroduction management plan. They’re not following it. And so there’s a lot of stuff that’s going on right now, and this is why the ranchers have lost trust. in CPW. They’ve lost trust in those relationships they used to have for generations with the wildlife people, the rangers and so forth. And so it’s time that we hold people accountable for this. And so What I’m hearing is that because of my involvement, and I got involved really starting September 9th is when I started writing letters, right, that all of a sudden people are realizing, wait a minute, it’s not Colorado Parks and Wildlife necessary that we need to only focus in on. We also must focus on the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
SPEAKER 06 :
And that’s where the focus has been, unfortunately.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, you know, and here’s the thing, right? So… People forget that CPW is a registered agent, a declared agent of the federal agency. So they report directly to the federal government. And that’s why we must deal with the decision makers, right? Because the rules allow for, if the United States Fish and Wildlife Service determines that Colorado Parks and Wildlife are not able to To properly manage the reintroduction of the wolf, they can remove Colorado Parks and Wildlife from that responsibility. Right. It’s written in the permits. It’s written in the laws. It’s written in the understanding of agreement between the state of Colorado and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. So right now, they are showing that they’re not competent enough to… manage it correctly. And here’s the other thing, Scott, that I want people to understand. The federal government calls this reintroduction of the wolf into Colorado. Listen to this. It is called a non-essential experimental population. And I’m here to tell you the experiment has failed, right? And it’s time to address the failed experiment. And so this is what is happening that I’m bringing forth. The governor and CPW, they want to play politics with it.
SPEAKER 06 :
And it’s been an expensive experiment.
SPEAKER 10 :
It has. It definitely has. A lot more than what they told us initially, right? I think they said it was going to be like $800,000 or something like that. It’s in the $800 million. Yeah, they’ve lost control of it. Again, just to go to show, they’re not competent enough to understand the complexities of how do you manage a wolf, when you bring it into the state of Colorado. And so it’s just getting worse and worse. So we need to put a pause. We need to slow down. We need to evaluate. Can we really do this properly? But in the meantime, they must follow the rules.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. Now, you said you were a reader. Evidently, the governor isn’t. No. Because there was a select number of states that were approved, so to speak. Yep. to get wolves from. That’s right. And Canada ain’t one of them.
SPEAKER 10 :
It’s not. Neither is Alaska. Yeah. So again, right. So you have to understand that oftentimes leaders believe that they shouldn’t be as knowledgeable as their staff to ensure that things are being doing right. Right. I’m a firm believer in trust and verify. Trust the people that are working for you, but verify that they understand the complexity of of what they’re doing. And I can tell you that it’s clear based on the evidence that they’re not. And so we may all have our own personal opinions, but ultimately what really rules the day are the facts. And this is why when you have facts, they can’t dispute them Because the facts are the facts. And this is where they’re struggling right now. I heard that there’s out there, Scott. I haven’t seen it. So some people will say, well, it’s hearsay. And I would say, okay, but I’m hearing it a lot. That there is a letter that got sent by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to Governor Polis and Jeff Davis saying, specifically informing them that they are not to be able to go to Alaska and get wolves or to go to Canada and bring wolves in from another nation. Because that would violate. A second time. Right. Right. What they the permit that they have. See, this is what a lot of people struggle with, is that how did we end up with endangered species here in Colorado that didn’t exist, and yet how did Colorado Parks and Wildlife have the authority to do it? Because they got a permit from the federal government. Right. And as long as they follow that permit, it’s okay. But if they go outside of that permit, they’re in violation of the Endangered Species Act. Interesting.
SPEAKER 06 :
Now, do you expect a return letter from the U.S. Fish?
SPEAKER 10 :
You know, I’m hopeful. Yeah. You know, I gave them 21 days. You know, last time I gave them 30 days and I did get a letter. Right. I got a letter and a phone call. on september 30th the last day that the government was open right but know this like i tell everybody the federal government is not shut down it’s slowed down okay i’m here to tell you that uh people at the level of matt hogan They’re still working. They’re reporting to the office every single day. Right. Okay. So it’s not shut down. It’s slowed down. Okay. I believe that, you know, because of what I’m asking and because of what I’ve identified, it’s not emotional. I’m not accusing anybody. Right. I’m asking for clarity. I’m asking for understanding, you know.
SPEAKER 06 :
no and i mean i’m i just want to tell her about i’m looking at the letter right here it says this letter is submitted to formally address and seek clarification yeah all right so this isn’t some threatening no yeah no i’m just asking for clarity right um so i’m hopeful that they will respond right
SPEAKER 10 :
True to form, the federal government is going to respond in a manner by which it makes them look good and not necessarily acknowledge if they did do a misstep. Right. Okay. Okay. Fair enough. Right. But we must have these conversations before they even think of bringing more wolves into Colorado.
SPEAKER 06 :
Because then it would take time for them to get – I guess they would have to get another permit?
SPEAKER 10 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
Exactly. And in order to get the permit, you have to go through the federal registry process, which is like six months.
SPEAKER 06 :
And it would seem like you would have to prove that you’ve managed your first experiment well. Yeah. And that would be very difficult.
SPEAKER 10 :
It would, right? I mean, I think there would be a lot of witnesses that would raise their hand and say, I have evidence, right? I mean, look, when you have recorded – conversations that show that the people that are going out there to investigate to see if the death of a cow was done by a wolf, that they’re telling the ranchers, well, we’re getting a lot of pressure from to say that it’s inconclusive, that we can’t tell if a wolf did this, right? It’s like, and everybody’s looking around at themselves like, this has never happened before. The only new element in this area is the wolf. You know, by, you know, process of elimination that’s where we’re at yeah right so uh yeah right now i think uh you know the ranchers and the farmers are really grateful as you can see i’m not signing this letter alone there’s seven yeah of major organizations of memberships that share the concern right and so It is time for the government to recognize that the people have a voice and they must listen to the people’s voice. And so I think this is going to be a very interesting next 30 days, the next quarter, because. I’m not sure that they’re going to be able to bring another 15 wolves into the state of Colorado this cycle. But, Scott, that doesn’t mean that they can’t, if they do it correctly, because the management plan says they have three to five years. Right, right. This is only the third year. Right. So it’s not like, you know, it said every single year we’re going to do this.
SPEAKER 06 :
And you’ve been kind of saying, just pause this thing. Just pause it. Yeah.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
Let’s all get another look at this.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. It’s kind of like, you know what, you’re in surgery and the doctor nicks something and it starts to bleed. It’s like, okay, don’t touch anything. Let’s fix this. Right. Before we go on, let’s fix what just happened. Right. And then we’ll move forward in completing the surgery. Right? These guys are like, oh, I’m sorry. We nicked the artery, but we’re still moving. It’s like, well, the body’s dying. It’s like, that’s okay. We’ll clean it up later. It’s like, no, no, no, no. That’s not what you do. Right? So everybody’s asking for a reasonable request. Just pause. Let us take a deep breath. Let’s evaluate this. Let’s get back to the table. Let’s see how we can move forward in a more productive manner where we reduce the conflicts between the wolf and the farmers and the ranchers. Yep.
SPEAKER 06 :
Be sure and get on Greg’s website, greglopez.co. And, hey, stay tuned. A lot more to come on this wolf issue.
SPEAKER 07 :

Hey, Dan. You know, our jobs are pretty different. I’m a baseball announcer. You’re an attorney and a talk show host.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, but we do have something in common. Really? What’s that? Our favorite car dealer, Len Lyle Chevrolet. Yeah, definitely not your typical dealership. That’s so true, Jack. No high-pressure sales tactics. They respect your time. And when you have two jobs, that’s important. You know, I’d recommend Len Lyle Chevrolet to anyone.
SPEAKER 04 :
And with their low overhead, that means… Lower prices.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, we really do have something in common.
SPEAKER 04 :
Len Lyle Chevrolet, go east and pay the least. Chevy, find new roads.
SPEAKER 06 :
Here’s your Water Talk Minute with Paul the Waterman, brought to you by Water Pros.
SPEAKER 01 :
So one of the things that we’ve learned, and you can check this out factually information for yourself by going to the EPA.gov. The EPA has a laundry list of unregulated contaminants. And what that means, folks, is that your municipality does not have to test for these contaminants, and so they’re not reported in your annual water quality report. This is something that has to change. We have a false sense of security about the quality of our drinking water, from pharmaceuticals to the levels of PFAS and Gen X chemicals, which was recently removed from the EPA contamination list. And for example, there’s a contaminant on the unregulated list called 1,4-Dioxin. 1,4-Dioxin has been in our water supply since the early 1900s. Check out my podcast on Spotify, Paul the Waterman, or waterpros.net. 560-KLZ, your home station.
SPEAKER 06 :
Welcome back to the show. Hey, if you’re just joining us, Greg Lopez is with us. Greg is our gubernatorial candidate, or one of them, I should say, out of 18 for 2026 here. And Greg, if you’ve missed his first segment, Greg is taking the bull by the horn, so to speak, on this Colorado wolf issue and has written some letters to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, to the directors there, and hey, we’re waiting on a response. So, You know, Greg, did this – did it kind of fuel this for you as you went around the state and talked to ranchers and folks where their lives were – I mean, you spent a lot of time, you know, out just talking to groups and individuals. Did that really turn this fire on for you?
SPEAKER 10 :
that their families have been here for generations. You know, they have a long history in the ag business here in Colorado. You can see it in their eyes. You can see it in their eyes that they’re stressed. You know, when they talk about this and they say, you know, I don’t know what’s going to happen tonight. I don’t know if I’m going to lose two or five or one. And this is my livelihood. This is how I feed my family.
SPEAKER 06 :
Dude, cows ain’t 200 bucks. No, they’re not.
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s real money.
SPEAKER 10 :
It is. And it’s hard labor. These are the folks that truly care about the land. They truly care about what the future and the environment because this is how they make a living. And so when I hear and I see their faces and I see their eyes, I see the stress. I see the agony. And it’s all because somebody decided that it would be cool to hear a wolf howl at night. This issue, Colorado is the first state that ever introduced wolves through a ballot initiative. Not by biologists, not by scientists, but by a ballot initiative. And out of the 64 counties, only 13 passed them. And it passed by less than 1%. And you can guess which counties passed it.
SPEAKER 01 :
Sure. Boulder, Denver.
SPEAKER 10 :
So it’s more than just what’s going on. Again, like I said last time, it’s about the quality of life. It’s about the different ways of life. And ag has made Colorado the state that it is today.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. Now, you have clearly stated out in your letters, hey, you’re just seeking some clarification here. The clarification is pretty clear. Yep. There is no doubt laws have been violated from the agreement.
SPEAKER 10 :
That’s right. Look, a lot of people, when they hear the Endangered Species Act, Scott, they think it’s a long document because that’s what we’re accustomed to today, right? But it was approved in 1973. This document is only 72 pages long. It’s not long at all, right? But if you read it, it… and I encourage everybody to go look it online, go to Section 9. Section 9 tells you what is prohibited, what you cannot do. And under the definitions of person, it outlines that a definition of a person includes states and employees of state agencies. And so it includes CPW, right? The very first thing… On the prohibitions is you cannot import or export an endangered species into the United States. Okay. And so what did they do when they went to Canada? They imported wolves from Canada to the United States. That’s against the Endangered Species Act.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 10 :
Now, you can get a permit that would allow you to do that.
SPEAKER 06 :
But they didn’t have it.
SPEAKER 10 :
but they don’t have it and they didn’t get it, okay? So they’re in violation. And that’s why now you will hear that there’s a letter from the United States Fish and Wildlife to the governor and CPW. You will not or you’re not allowed to bring in wolves from Canada anymore. You’re not allowed to bring wolves from Alaska. The only places you can bring wolves from are from the states that are listed in the permit that we gave you. And the permit is what a lot of people know as the 10-J rule. That is the permit. They cannot go outside of the four corners of that document. If they do go outside those four corners of that document, they’re in violation. And that’s what they’ve done. And so I’m asking for clarity. I’m asking for the permit. I’m asking for evidence that they did allow them to do this. Nothing has surfaced. All the investigations I’ve made don’t show it. And so we’re going to keep asking. And we’re not going to let them say, oh, sorry, we made a misstep. We won’t do it again. Nuh-uh. Good to know, but we’ve got to go back and find out what are we going to do with you breaking the law.
SPEAKER 06 :
Sure.
SPEAKER 10 :
Because those 15 wolves that came from Canada, they’re illegal. So what do we do with them? Do we put them in a sanctuary? Right? They’re illegal. They’re not supposed to be here. So these are some of the questions that I want to be asking. And I am looking to bring, just so everybody knows, because this is not going to be over… I’m looking to bring a field hearing from the United States House of Representatives to Colorado to discuss the Endangered Species Act to make sure everybody understands what it means to be managing an endangered species.
SPEAKER 06 :
Wow. Very good. What has been in your campaign so far? and you look at the other 17 folks.
SPEAKER 05 :
And here’s what I’ve told some people, too, and I’ve had people tell me, oh, you know, these other people, I like this guy or I like this lady, you know what I mean? They’re nice people. But we can’t do that. We’ve got to have people that’s taking action. Look.
SPEAKER 06 :
And going to get it, because here’s what, from hanging out with you a little bit and us being at some different events together, I can’t tell you, and I told Kim Munson this other day, I had Kim on the show, how many people have said, I said, if I had to pick a phrase… that I heard so many times is this is not the Colorado that I moved to. This is not the Colorado I want to raise my family in. This is not the, I mean, over and over, this is not the Colorado. This is not the Colorado. So let’s talk about your campaign a little bit and what you’re going to make it to get us back that Colorado.
SPEAKER 10 :
We’re going to make Colorado Colorado again, right? We’re going to make Colorado a state that we can be proud of. Look, we now know what it feels like. when we were under a single party rule for over seven years, and the vision was to make Colorado California. And I’m here to tell you, the governor’s agenda has always been to make Colorado the playground for the rich and famous. And so what he’s trying to do is get rid of ag. He’s trying to get rid of farming and ranching. And hunting, because we’re just in the way, right? I mean, think about it. You go back to what he’s done constantly, constantly, from the first time Then he got elected with oil and gas, and he’s like, okay, we should leave oil and gas alone. And then as soon as he’s in, he puts on a lot of regulations, right? And then he hits with the meat-out day. You’re not allowed to eat meat, right? Again, so constantly, constantly. It doesn’t take hard to find out what is the vision of the governor as it pertains to Colorado. Well, that’s not what Colorado is, right? I would say, if Governor Polis wants to live in California, all he has to do is move to California. He doesn’t have to make us California, right? And that’s what people are feeling. Government’s overreach, government telling them how to live, Government not making our educational system successful enough to educate our kids. They’re taking away parents’ rights, right? Criminals are running like crazy. We’re a sanctuary state, as much as he wants to claim that we’re not. Remember, he was the one that denied that even Tren de la Aragua was in Colorado, right? That it was all made up, right? Until those videos showed up. Right. No, it’s like, OK, maybe there is something here. Right. So I’m going to make Colorado Colorado again by listening to the people and making sure that I am the voice of all six million when it comes to what is Colorado stand for. And that’s why I’m saying I’m going to fight for the quality of life of not only those that vote for me. but also those that don’t vote for me. And I’m going to make sure I protect the different ways of life that Colorado has to offer. There are five different economies in the state of Colorado. And so we must protect them all. We must respect them all. I’m going to remove the divide between rural and urban corridor. How? By reappointing good people in all these commissions. Because right now, you look at all these commissions and those appointments are all political favors. And he is making these boards and commissions his way of weaponizing for him to achieve the agenda he wants to achieve. Everybody sees it. Nobody is not seeing the reality of this. And so it’s time for us to just speak the truth. I don’t have a problem getting a busted lip and a bloody nose or a black eye for the right reason.
SPEAKER 06 :
Sure.
SPEAKER 10 :
I will go into the battle because I have faith in the people that they’ll understand that I’m fighting for them. It’s not about politics for me. It’s about doing the right thing. Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
There are some people running that do have some titles behind their name. That’s true. Right now, as you sit here, it’s Greg Lopez. That’s right. But you took on a huge issue that’s here in our state. I have not seen, and I’m not the biggest political guru in the state of Colorado, but I’ve not seen one other candidate talk about really any kind of issue up to this point.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right. And again, look, I know them. They’re good people. They work as hard as they can to protect. But I am the only one that understands the totality of what a governor is. I am acting as a governor right now. Everything I’m doing is acting and behaving like a governor. Because I’m trying to do is make sure that people understand we’re going to do it correctly. We’re not going to play politics with any issue. We’re going to make sure that we do the things that the people want us to do. But more importantly, we’re going to respect the voice of the people. We’re not going to silence them. We’re not going to tell them they’re not informed. We’re not going to tell them that they got to go sit in the corner like good little boys and girls. Let the adults make all the decisions. No, you know. And so I’m hopeful that the other candidates will start realizing that it is about who actually knows how to do the job. We’re not trying to be prom king in this thing, right? We’re trying to make the future of our state better for the next 20 to 25 years. That’s what it’s about. I’m not in this because of the salary. I’m not in it because of the title. I’m in it because I care for Colorado. And there’s an additional thing that… I never thought, but, you know, Scott, you may not know this. My wife and I have been, in the next 10 days, we’re going to be grandparents.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, yeah, you did tell me that.
SPEAKER 10 :
You know what? And I tell people, you know, when I tell people, I say, oh, Greg, that’s great. I said, yeah, you know, but I’m told they’re going to be twins. And then people are like, oh, my God. But they’re twin boys, and they’re like, oh, my God.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, yeah, really, oh, my God.
SPEAKER 10 :
So, you know, our lives are about to change, but you know what? I love Colorado. My family, I grew up, my kids grew up here. I’ve been here 38 years. This is home for me, you know, and I am not going to be forced to leave just because of the bad policies that are coming out of the Capitol. And there is an evil empire in there right now, and we’ve got to fix it. And that’s why I’m running for governor.
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely. About 90 seconds here. How can folks, how can our listeners…
SPEAKER 10 :
