SPEAKER 02 :
It’s the Kim Munson Show, analyzing the most important stories.
SPEAKER 17 :
That seems to me like government is establishing a religion.
SPEAKER 02 :
The latest in politics and world affairs.
SPEAKER 17 :
If you give people rights, women’s rights, gay rights, whatever, there can’t be equal rights if there are special rights.
SPEAKER 02 :
Today’s current opinions and ideas.
SPEAKER 17 :
Surveys show that people still really prefer freedom over government force.
SPEAKER 02 :
Is it freedom or is it force? Let’s have a conversation.
SPEAKER 17 :
Indeed, let’s have a conversation, and welcome to the Kim Munson Show. Thank you so much for joining us. You’re each treasured, you’re valued, you have purpose. Today’s drive for excellence, take care of your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body, my friends. We were made for this moment in history. And thank you to the team. That’s Producer Joe, Luke, Rachel, Zach, Echo, Charlie, Mike, Teresa, all the people here at Crawford Broadcasting. Happy Tuesday, Producer Joe. Happy Tuesday, Kim. and i know you’ve got your seat belt on uh you’ve been working diligently we’ve got a what a computer upgrade or software upgrade what would you call that exactly what’s happening sorry what was that kim okay so what is happening is it a software software update or what is because you said we’re on the new computer system so this is our inaugural day on that so i know that we’re gonna kick the tires and see how it works but so what is it exactly that’s happening uh joe
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s a new software, so just kind of how I initiate the music and the stuff underneath you and whatnot, that’s a little bit different. And so I’m just rolling with the punches and trying to learn everything I can.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, so this is the inaugural day. So good luck on all that. It’s always interesting whenever we do those kinds of things. So way to go. That’s awesome. And be sure to check out the website. That is kimmunson.com. Sign up for our weekly email newsletter that comes out on Sundays. You’ll get first look at our upcoming guests as well as our most recent essays. You can email me. At Kim at Kim Munson, that’s M-O-N-S-O-N dot com. And thank you to all of you who support us. We are truly an independent voice. We search for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force, force versus freedom. If something’s a good idea, you should not have to force people to do it. And on the show, we focus on the issues and not the personalities. We obviously talk about people that are pushing the issues, but we want to stay focused on that. And my friends, remember, it’s never compassionate to take other people’s stuff, whether or not it’s their rights, their property, freedom, livelihoods, opportunities, or lives via force. Force can be a weapon, but it can be a policy, unpredictable and excessive taxation, fear, coercion, government-induced inflation. the World Economic Forum’s agenda, the globalist elite’s agenda, the United Nations. And you’re seeing all these things are connected. And this radical activist group that’s taken over the Democrat Party is in full force here at the Colorado State Legislature with this Colorado governor. But also you can see on the local level, land use codes, zoning regulations, forced fees, conservation easements, National monument designations, all of these things take away our property and that’s never compassionate to do that. So that’s why we do the show is to get our brains around these issues. The show comes to you 6 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday. The first hour is rebroadcast 1 to 2 in the afternoon, second hour 10 to 11 at night. All those KLZ platforms are KLZ 560 AM, KLZ 100.7 FM, the KLZ website, the KLZ app. Within 24 hours, typically we have the show posted on my website with a written summary as well. And when that happens, then those podcasts can also be heard on the streaming services such as Spotify and iTunes. And let’s get over here. This is such a great word of the day. And I was reading something yesterday. And I hadn’t heard this word in a long time. But it should be easy to use in a sentence today. It’s quibble. Q-U-I-B-B-L-E. And number one definition could be to argue or find fault over trivial matters or minor concerns. Number two, to evade the point in question by artifice, play upon words, cavilling or by raising any insignificant or impertinent question or point to trifle in argument or discourse to equivocate. Boy, there’s all kinds of great words that I can use for word of the day in that particular definition. So I would say that the Democrats want to quibble, although it’s a really serious issue, but they really want to quibble over what is happening regarding Donald Trump rounding up immigrants, criminal immigrants, and deporting them. And they want to quibble on just exactly how that should be occurring. So again, your sentence is, Your word today is quibble, and use that in a sentence today. Our quote of the day is from C.S. Lewis, and C.S. Lewis was born in 1898. He died in 1963. He was a British writer, literary scholar, and Anglican lay theologian. He held academic positions in English literature at Magdalene College, Oxford, and Magdalene College in Cambridge. He’s best known as the author of The Chronicles of Narnia, but he is also noted for his other works of fiction, such as The Screwtape Letters. which I’ve read. He’s such a deep thinker. I have to read these things several times. And I did read the Chronicles of Narnia to my children, and the Space Trilogy, and for his nonfiction, Christian Apologetics, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, and the Problem of Pain. And I know that you all know this, but the word apologetics, it took me a while to understand that. It’s not apologizing for something. It’s making the case. It’s in defense of. So he’s making the defense of the Christian faith. And I loved this quote. I thought this was just really great today from C.S. Lewis. He said, the Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because he loves us. And again, that’s C.S. Lewis. The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because he loves us. And regarding headlines, let’s get over here to some of these headlines. First thing, this whole tariffs thing with Trump. This is from the Business Insider, and it says Trump got what he wanted with the Canada and Mexico tariff pauses. And then it goes on to say even if he didn’t get that much, but if he got what he wanted, I think that that’s probably plenty on that. And so it’s so interesting to watch initially Trudeau and then the president of Mexico both said that they were going to play hardball and put tariffs on to products of U.S. products going into Canada and Mexico. And then they’re back at the negotiating table. So this is, again, from the Business Insider. It says, Gosh, that seems like that should make sense. A 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods was not delayed, prompting China to slap retaliatory tariffs on the United States. And this goes on to say U.S. President Donald Trump has just shown the world how the art of the deal works. In a matter of days, Trump threatened three key partners, China, Canada and Mexico, with tariffs over illegal immigration and fentanyl. The threats paid off for the short term. He got a temporary deal with Canada and Mexico. And it says President Trump has started his second term with his tariff guns blazing, and so far it has worked extremely well in achieving his policy goals. Rajiv Biswas, the CEO of the Asia Pacific Economics, a Singapore-based research firm, told Business Insider. And it says on Saturday, Trump, using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, imposed a 25% tariff on most goods from Canada and Mexico. And they were set to take effect today. But after an early morning stock market downturn on Monday, talks with Canada and Mexico resulted in a 30-day tariff delay. So, again, that is the art of the deal. I know that there are those that may be frustrated with these tariffs, but this is one of the few tools that he really has in his toolbox. And, again, I think we’re seeing the art of the deal, as this article says. And next thing, this is huge headlines. This is from the Associated Press. It says, And it says, And it says, that this provides crucial aid that funds education and fights starvation, epidemics, and poverty overseas, sparking a showdown with the congressional Democrats who blasted the effort as illegal and vowed a court fight. And in one of the most dramatic efforts to push back on President Donald Trump’s bid to slash and reshape the federal government, Some Democrats sought Monday to enter the headquarters of the U.S. Agency for International Development. They were blocked by officers from even broaching the lobby. And Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he was the acting administrator of the agency, despite it being an independent body for six decades. Now, again, independent body, but has all of this tax money that they’ve been doling out. And says that while Trump has spent the first three weeks of his new presidency making broad changes to the federal government, the fast moving developments at USAID have emerged as particularly controversial flashpoint with Democrats who argue it symbolizes the massive power that Musk is wielding over Washington. But apparently, Musk and Trump have said, Trump told reporters on Monday that shutting down USAID should have been done a long time ago. Asked whether he needs Congress to approve such a measure. The president said he did not think so. And some of the other headlines that I read yesterday is that this USAID that has been going to many of these countries said, Much of this money has been used to actually undermine America. And so, again, it’s the speed at which he is doing things is it’s just it’s absolutely remarkable to see. One other thing to mention is within over the weekend, we’re seeing protests being organized regarding Donald Trump’s immigrant policy deportation. And it seems like it’s taken them a little while to get this organized. I think, again, he came in so quickly. that had these people on their heels, which normally they would have a little bit of time. They’d be organized. But we saw, I talked about it yesterday, the headline in Los Angeles where they were in the streets disrupting traffic. That’s pretty scary. They’re getting into people’s space that isn’t their space to be in. And so it’s going to be very interesting to continue to watch all of this that is happening with the Trump administration. The show comes to you because of our sponsors. One of those sponsors is Hooters Restaurants. Hooters Restaurants has been a sponsor for many years and a sponsor of both the Kim Munson Show and America’s Veterans Stories. They have five locations, Loveland, Aurora, Lone Tree, Westminster, and Colorado Springs. How I got to know them was when I was on city council. It’s really a question about the proper role of government. And you can find that whole story at my website at KimMunson.com. Also, last night I was at the Douglas County GOP meeting where they were electing their new officers. And Alan Thomas, who is a regular guest on the show, he does amazing essays that we publish at the Kim Munson Show. And then also he will take the microphone from time to time as a guest host. He decided to run for Douglas County first GOP first vice chair. And he was elected last night. And he had asked if I would make his opening remarks, which I was very honored to do so and very excited about it because Alan and his wife and all these young Republicans are are working to reclaim our country for their generation, for our next generation. And so congratulations to Alan Thomas for being elected as first vice chair of the Douglas County GOP. And also, lots out there regarding insurance. And it’s important that you have an insurance agent that you totally trust, that you know that will help Have your best interests in mind as they’re writing your different policies. And hopefully you might be able to save some money. And the only way to find out is to give the Roger Mangan State Farm Insurance team a call because you might be able to bundle things together. We search for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force, force versus freedom. If something’s a good idea, you should not have to force people to do it. And so pleased to have on the line with me the Colorado GOP. She is the House Minority Leader. That’s Rose Puglisi. Rose, welcome to the show. Oh, thanks, Kim. I appreciate it. Well, you’re a little busy down there, but there’s some good bills, which is exciting. You guys are pushing back as much as you can because it really seems like there’s a radical activist agenda down there at the statehouse with the Democrats in control.
SPEAKER 20 :
Well, it’s really interesting because, you know, I knocked doors across the state multiple times. So did our members. And they did too. And what I really feel is like there’s this disconnect because I don’t believe they were hearing anything different at the doors than we were. Affordability, affordability, affordability. Colorado is no longer an affordable place to live. And they’re looking, the people are looking for relief from us. So what you’ll see on our side are a lot of great bills that are aimed at decreasing costs, especially fees, so that Colorado can become more affordable. We’re not quite seeing that on the other side of the aisle.
SPEAKER 17 :
No, we’re not. As you know, Rose, I am president of the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, which is an all-volunteer group. We love to have people join us, and they can do that by going to coloradotaxpayer.org. But each week, we will take positions on bills within our cut pledge. But really, we look at things that affect taxes, which that affects everybody. And then TABOR, Colorado’s Taxpayers Bill of Rights, which affects everybody. Property rights, school choice, those are some of the things that we really look at. And last week when I logged in to see how many bills were scheduled for hearing for this week, It took my breath away. There was 127 bills that were scheduled for hearing this week. There’s no way, Rose, that our legislators can read all those bills and think about them and think about the consequences of that to the American people. I think that this amount of bills is really irresponsible. And we had a number of good bills, though, that we took positions on. But 127 bills, that’s a lot.
SPEAKER 20 :
That is a lot. And you know what? If they were 127 bills that lowered the cost of living in Colorado that protected our communities, at least we could rally around those bills. But it’s interesting the type of bills that are being brought forward. I mean, we are already seeing and already fighting the attack on parental rights and healthcare. I mean, having legislation where my 13 year old can override my decision by going to court is not acceptable. And so we’re seeing a lot of that type of legislation coming forward that should be really concerning, no matter if you’re a Republican, a Democrat, unaffiliated or what party you are. The attack on parental rights is just wrong. And I think it’s something we’re going to be seeing more and more and more of this session.
SPEAKER 17 :
I think that that is true, and we’ve got to stay on top of that. But let’s talk about something positive, and that’s House Bill 25-1051. This is a bill that you, Representative Rose Puglisi, Representative Ryan Gonzalez, and Senator Byron Pelton have brought forward. And I’ve got to think just about everybody in Colorado would love this bill, repealing the recycled paper carryout bag fees. I love that.
SPEAKER 20 :
Well, it’s interesting. I, you know, had done a lot of pre-session interviews and forums. And honestly, almost every group I talked to about this particular bill, we’ve gotten standing ovations. People hate it. And it’s interesting. So, you know, we talk about all the bills we bring. I have always, since I started in legislature, brought one repeal bill a year. I’ve committed to that. My first year was repealing the retail delivery fees. My second year was repealing the green energy codes. And so this year it’s grocery bags. But all three of those bills were the bills that when I went to doors and knocked and talked to people, the average person in our communities, that was their number one issue. And so this year, grocery bags were their number one issue. They really just hate the nickel and diming of Colorado. They can’t afford any more. I know I’ve gotten some feedback from people who are like, really, that’s how you want to spend your time repealing a 10 cent fee. And yes, because that’s what the people have asked me to do. It’s what the people have asked Representative Gonzalez to do. So I’m really excited about this bill.
SPEAKER 17 :
I am as well. And there’s some other good bills as well. What do you see this week? What are some of the things that you want people to know, Representative Pugliese?
SPEAKER 20 :
We have so many different bills in committee right now. Our judiciary committee is going to be really busy in this next week and two. You know, there’s that horrible assault weapons ban that’s going through the Senate that will be coming the House’s way. I will say it is the bill I get the most outreach from constituents asking us to fight against. All of our members have some really great bills that help children and families that are coming through this week. And in the next coming weeks, representative is trying to repeal the retail delivery fee again. It is again, a number one issue that people just, it’s just not common sense in Colorado. And so we’re going to continue to work on affordability issues and budget. I mean, you know, as, With all of your wonderful work with cut that focusing on the budget, making sure we fight against those new enterprises that are aimed to get more fees from Coloradans with less accountability. And circumventing the taxpayer bill of rights. So we do have some positive, but we definitely do have a lot more fight than praise, I think, at this point. But we’ll see. I’m really optimistic, especially about the grocery bag fee. We’ve got some really great people coming to testify. from organizations that I think will hopefully make some impact to at least get it out of committee and to the floor. Instead of, you know, 10 people making this decision, let’s have the whole body make the decision. So that’s my hope for this week.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, and Rose, regarding that fee on grocery bags and then outlawing plastic bags. Now, are those two different things? If we get rid of this fee, will we get plastic bags back or not?
SPEAKER 20 :
No, I think the plastic bag has already been put into place. We wouldn’t be able to do that. But the fee itself would go away if we were able to repeal it.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay. Because I’ve always thought that was so interesting. Remember during COVID where everybody was so concerned about germs and people might even be disinfecting their shipments that would come to their door and everybody was just so concerned about germs. And then if you went to the store and you had your plastic bag, it was clean. It hadn’t been sitting in the back of your trunk or in your car for a few days gathering germs. Now we see people bringing in these bags that who knows if they’re ever washed, bringing all those germs into our grocery stores, our food stores. I’ve always found that very ironic, Rose. No, I think that’s an excellent point.
SPEAKER 20 :
And I think about people from low and middle income families that have to work and walk to work or walk to the grocery store. And now we are charging them additional fees in order to bring their groceries home. I mean, how is that fair to Coloradans? And so I really think there’s a lot more, you know, for those people who send maybe not so nice emails to me about, you know, only 10 cents. I don’t think we’re seeing the bigger picture. I think germs is a perfect example. The people who don’t have cars and need to bring their groceries home. I mean, let’s think about the people that’s really impacts and roll back that fee.
SPEAKER 17 :
I think that sounds great. Any other bills that you want to make sure that people know about? And so with cut yesterday, we said so we send out an email to all the legislators and the governor. And if people are members and it’s only twenty five bucks, you’ll get that as well. And it’s hours and hours and hours of analysis. We took positions on thirty nine bills and we also have we put in commentary on. that hopefully that will help you as legislators have some thoughts about why we are a yes or a no on a bill. And maybe that might be helpful when you’re in committee because we think it’s a lot of bills. I cannot imagine as a legislator to try to get through all this stuff.
SPEAKER 20 :
You know, it is very helpful. And I normally ask my staff as I’m preparing to vote on bills because I am at a bit of a disadvantage. Obviously, as a minority leader, there’s a lot of balls in the air. But what I miss is this is the first year that I’m not sitting on a committee. And so what I’ve told my members is it is so important for you to get on the well and tell me why I should vote yes or no, because I haven’t heard these bills. Like you said, there’s so many bills. We try to get through as many as we can, but it’s very difficult. And so when CUT or even Liberty Scorecard, CCI, CML, when all of these different organizations that I rely on, are able to back up their analysis and say, here’s what we saw, here’s what you should be thinking about. That is incredibly helpful because irrespective of what committees you sit on, you can’t listen to every bill and committee. And so really understanding the impact and like you said, the unintended consequences of the bills that are coming forward is really important. And so we rely on each other as a team at the legislature, our members in the Republican House Caucus to really inform us. And so organizations like yours are vital in making sure we have the right information.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, thank you, Rose. And let me just give a shout out to my fellow board members. Again, these are all volunteers. CUT’s been an organization since 1976, taking positions on these different bills. But that’s Steve Dorman, Greg Golianski, Russ Haas, Bill Hamill, Rob Knuth, John Nelson, Wendy Warner, Marty Nielsen, Rami Johnson, Mary Jansen, Dave Evans, and Corey Onizorg. And when you see these people at the grocery store, say thank you to them because they are really doing amazing work for the people of Colorado. Representative Rose Pugliese, House Minority Leader, what’s the final thought you’d like to leave with our listeners today?
SPEAKER 20 :
I do want to just alert your listeners, and I know you and I have talked about this, that the House Republicans are doing our fee of the day. You can find that on our social media. But we’re highlighting a horrible fee in Colorado that we all need to pay today. that are really impacting Colorado families. And so if you all can be talking about that within our grassroots community, I think it’ll be really important that we hold the Democrats accountable for the fees they’ve imposed on Coloradans and made Colorado less affordable. So any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay. Well, Representative Rose Puglisi, thank you so much and keep up the good work. Thank you. And all these things are so important that we are talking about them. And it happens because of our sponsors. And for everything residential real estate, reach out to Karen Levine.

Our featured guest this hour is Greg Walcher, and he is one of the most recognized and respected national leaders in natural resources policy. In addition to his popular blog, Resources and Reality, he writes a weekly newspaper column on Western resource issues and is the author of Smoking Them Out, The Theft of the Environment and How to Take It Back. It’s in its second printing, and he’s a frequent and popular speaker at conferences throughout the state and around the country. Greg Walcher, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER 14 :
Good morning. Thank you.
SPEAKER 17 :
And first thing, I thought you’d written a intriguing piece regarding the unproud Western legacy of Jimmy Carter. And Jimmy Carter just recently passed on. And of course, there were all kinds of tributes that came in. But America was not in a really good spot when he was president, and a lot of it was because of his public policy, and particularly here in the West. And I was very shocked, as I read, to see what he had done when he came into office regarding water in the West.
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, that’s right. In fact, there were all sorts of tributes that came in at his death, and it’s easy to admire somebody who lived to be 100 forever. And I don’t have any particular desire to speak ill of the dead, nor do any of us. Jimmy Carter is viewed by most Americans, I think, as a really good person who was more or less a failed president. And he’s especially viewed that way by people in the West who remember because they remember how he just didn’t seem to understand the way things are in the West. He certainly didn’t understand the importance of water in the West. And one of the first things he did as president, as many people recall – has put out what was called the hit list of Western water projects, hundreds of water projects all over the West that he decided the government should no longer be involved in and pulled the funding for it. It created a massive ripple effect all over the West that we’re still paying the price for today in states like Colorado, where we don’t have enough storage for the water Colorado is entitled to under the interstate compacts in any state. And there were water projects all over the West that had been talked about in Congress for decades, and many of them were very delicate agreements. Colorado, for example, had agreed to the construction of the Central Arizona project only in exchange for six different projects in Colorado. that would have allowed us to store the water we’re entitled to under the interstate compact on the Colorado River. Those projects were killed under the Carter administration. And even in states like California, where people are shaking their heads and wondering why they don’t have all the water that they should have, there are water storage projects that were supposed to have been built that never got built because of Jimmy Carter. And some of those arguments are still raw even to this day. And it just seemed to a lot of people like he never really understood the West. He was a Southerner and from a small town. And yet by the time he was up for reelection, he lost every single Western and Southern state except his own. People just were tired of him. what they viewed as kind of an attack on rural America. And this divide that used to be, you know, Americans used to be divided more along partisan lines. Today, they’re divided more along urban and rural, urban versus rural lines than ever before. That happened during the Carter administration, and it’s never really been the same since. So I’m like everybody else. I admire the good person that Jimmy Carter was. But I just didn’t want to let a moment like that pass without reminding people that there was another side, too.
SPEAKER 17 :
So, Greg Walcher, first thing, a friend of mine, Yvonne, has said, you cannot have water conservation without water storage. And I thought that that was an interesting statement. But the next question is, why? Why would he do this? He was hardly in office. Who influenced him? How did that happen? Why did he do that?
SPEAKER 14 :
Part of it was his reliance on advice from from some of the more extreme environmental organizations. But also he just sort of developed a view that dams in general were a bad thing, which is also an opinion that is widely held by all sorts of people today who don’t understand their purpose and their value and their importance. And during his campaign, in fact, in 1976 when he was elected president, Right in the middle of that campaign was a very famous incident where a dam in Idaho burst and caused all sorts of damage and flooded the town below it and so on. And this was all on the national news during his campaign. And he just developed the view that we should just stop building them without really talking to a lot of the people involved in it. And there were a number of senators around the West, Democrat senators on his own side of the aisle, were upset about it, but some of them went ahead and defended him anyway and helped him kill the water projects. And all of them were defeated for reelection in 1978 and 1980. And it’s the reason, at least one of the reasons, for the defeat of senators like Floyd Haskell in Colorado and Frank Church in Idaho and Dick Clark in Iowa and a bunch of others. There were, I think, eight or ten or so of the Democrat senators from the West who lost their seats because of it.
SPEAKER 17 :
So, Greg Walcher, those decisions have really affected the West. It’s made the West much drier. Wouldn’t you say we would not have maybe many of the problems that we have today regarding water if they had not made those decisions, correct?
SPEAKER 14 :
That’s absolutely right. And some of those water projects are still I would hesitate, I guess, to leave it without saying some of those probably were projects that shouldn’t have been built. He wasn’t 100 percent wrong on all of them. But to just to just sort of have a gigantic list and say all these water projects underway, we’re not going to build any of them was just sort of a meat axe approach to things that made that made no sense. And in and in many of all of these Western states have been struggling ever since. to figure out how to get some of that water storage back. In Colorado, one of the projects killed was the Animas La Plata project, which members of our congressional delegation spent the next 20 years working to figure out how to get it built anyway. And they wound up with one small reservoir that was part of the Ute Indian Water Rights Settlement Act that finally got done 20 years later after decades of work by Senators Bill Armstrong and Hank Brown and Wayne Allard and Ben Nighthorse Campbell that should have been built in the 1970s, and what wound up there in place of it partly solved the water rights dilemma of the Ute Indian tribes but supplied no other water for anything else. And in New Mexico and Arizona, tribes are still trying to figure out how to get the water that they’re entitled to. So a lot of those projects… are still going to be built at some point, but they’re going to be built for a hundred times more than it would have cost at the time.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay. Next question. During the Biden, the old Biden Harris administration, my understanding is in the Northwest and in California that they were dismantling some of the dams there as well. And so what’s your thoughts on that, Greg Walcher?
SPEAKER 14 :
In California, for example, on the Klamath river, the previous administration said, finally completed the process of tearing down all four of the dams and reservoirs that supplied water to a massive agricultural valley because somebody decided that the salmon in that watershed were more important than the farms in that watershed. And so there’s hundreds of acres, actually thousands of acres of land have been dried up as a result of it. And I guarantee you at some point in the future, People are going to try to figure out how to get water storage in the Klamath River Basin once again when we already had it. The attack on water storage is just ill-informed, and unfortunately, it’s very harmful to the West.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, and you mentioned farmland. Well, that also will be affecting our food supply. So when you’re drying up farmland, that means there’s less food for people. That’s going to have a real effect, yes?
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, yes, not only on the supply of food, but certainly on the price of food as well. It should be acknowledged that agriculture is a lot more efficient than it used to be, and we now live in a world where fewer than 2% of the people in America are involved in farming, and they supply more food than at any time in the history of America. So we not only feed ourselves, but a good part of the world as well. with a smaller amount of land than we ever did before. But at some point, if we keep shrinking the agricultural base, at some point in the future, we’re going to be importing all our food like we have been doing our energy.
SPEAKER 17 :
Which is, I think, terrible public policy. Do you think that the Trump administration understands this?
SPEAKER 14 :
I don’t know. I think that remains to be seen. They certainly understand the need for domestic production. energy supplies, and we’re going to see, as we saw in the first Trump administration, we’re going to see a lot more emphasis on that, and we’re going to see considerable progress in that. Whether or not we see progress in providing water around the West, I guess we’ll see. There has already been a desperate push on the part of the administration to restart the water projects in California. They have the advantage of almost all Americans believing now that California needs more water So I don’t know. We’ll see whether that impacts the rest of the West and whether any of the other water storage projects can be revisited or not.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay. Yes, those fires in California have certainly shed light on the need there. And then before we go to break, apparently Chris Wright, who with Liberty Energy, has been approved as our next Energy Secretary. Your thoughts on that, Greg Walcher?
SPEAKER 14 :
I think Chris is an excellent choice for energy secretary. I think he understands because it’s been his business and his livelihood for a very long time. He understands the way energy supplies work better than probably anybody who’s held that job in the past. So I’m excited about Chris being in that position, and I think we’ll have a much better future. The energy department itself, of course, doesn’t produce any energy, and it’s one of the departments that a lot of people wonder why we even have it. But it does set energy policy in a way that after the break we can talk about the Energy Policy Act because it’s one of the zombie programs that the Doge group is talking about.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, well, half that is our cliffhanger, Greg Walcher. And I’m talking with Greg Walcher. He’s a natural resources expert. And his book is, let me get it right here, Smoking Them Out, The Theft of the Environment and How to Take It Back. We have these important discussions because of our sponsors. Next Wednesday, they’re going to have a great On Values presentation. They’re located in Pueblo. And Drew Dix, who is one of the co-founders, along with Brad Padula of the Center, he’s a Medal of Honor recipient, is going to talk about the real Cold War. And Drew was stationed in Greenland for a number of years. Of course, Greenland is in the news with Donald Trump talking about Greenland becoming part of the United States. And so that’s going to be a super interesting event. And you can check it out at AmericanValueCenter.org, AmericanValueCenter.org. And on the line with me is a natural resource expert, and that is Greg Walcher. And Greg, before we get into the next discussion, A Climate Conversation is a documentary that I had the great honor to moderate, and Walt Johnson, it’s his project, and we have done some great podcasts, and you were one of our guests on that great podcast series, and I want to thank you for that, and people can find that at aclimateconversation.com.
SPEAKER 14 :
Thank you. That was fun.
SPEAKER 17 :
It was a lot of fun, wasn’t it? It was. But let’s continue on because energy is so important. Chris Wright, who is the founder of Liberty Energy, is now going to be our next energy secretary. And you’ve written another piece, Is Government Going to the Doge? I think that’s great. And so you mentioned before we went to break the Energy Policy Act. So what should people know about that?
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, it’s on the list of what Doge refers to as zombie programs, and that is federal programs for which the legal authorization has expired, and yet Congress continues to appropriate money nevertheless. And so they’re spending money on programs that don’t legally exist. This is a big issue in Washington, and I don’t know how many people have focused on the appropriation process. But as you know, Congress doesn’t have a lot of jobs that it absolutely has to do every year. But it’s supposed to, under the law, Congress is supposed to pass a budget every year, and there are 12 appropriation bills for the various federal agencies and departments that they’re supposed to pass every year. They haven’t passed a budget in, I don’t know, 20 years, and they haven’t passed any of the appropriation bills for quite a few years now. So that at the end of the year, they wrap everything into one continuing resolution, which simply continues everything in government at the same level that it’s where it’s been, plus whatever they want to hang on the Christmas tree as well. And that’s all that gets passed. Well, the result of that is passing money for all sorts of programs that expired. I hear people in Colorado all the time say, we have a sunset law in Colorado, and when they pass legislation, there’s a clause that tells you when it expires. And if the legislature doesn’t renew some program, it goes away. Why doesn’t Congress do that too? Well, the reality is they do. There’s all sorts of vast majority of federal programs that have expiration dates on the legal authorization. And so if they can’t get their act together to renew them, they expire. Except in Congress, when they pass this continuing resolution at the end of the year, it automatically continues everything in government. And so now there are – I’m afraid you’ll think I’m making this up. There are over 1,500 federal programs that are legally expired for which Congress is still appropriating money. And the amount of money in the continuing resolution that funds those expired programs is over half a trillion dollars every year. And the report from the Congressional Budget Office that identifies all of those mentions in particular some of the major programs, big ones, that involve lots of money. One of those is the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which was adopted during the George W. Bush administration and includes all kinds of massive programs, some demonstration and pilot projects that were included at the time to – For example, demonstration programs to figure out the technology for fuel cell energy. All of those kind of programs have expired. There’s a huge percentage of programs in the Department of Energy that don’t legally exist because their legal authority expired, and yet Congress is still appropriating something like $50 billion a year to programs that have expired. That’s just one agency, one department, but the list is on and on and on, and every agency – of government, there are a lot of those programs. And if Congress would get back to the regular order, as they call it, the process of passing all the appropriation bills every year, then there’s legal requirements that they can’t pass appropriations for programs that are not authorized by law. And a lot of this would go away. And so it’s one of the things that this new Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, is looking at is what they call zombie programs that are just sort of on autopilot because of these continuing resolutions.
SPEAKER 17 :
So do you think that this Energy Policy Act should go away, or should it be reauthorized, or what do you think should happen with that?
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, clearly some of it should go away, but the regular process in Congress is they ought to look at all of them. The programs that were authorized under that particular law, single-spaced, are three pages long. And so there are literally over 100 programs in that category. Some of them are good programs that we ought to continue. Some of them clearly aren’t. So they ought to go through one by one in every department and agency and figure out which programs we still need and which ones we don’t. Some of them, by the way, some of these zombie programs are entire agencies. The Federal Election Commission, for example, which oversees campaign finance laws, expired. The whole agency expired in 1981. And it has been existing on continuing appropriations ever since. The Legal Services Corporation expired in 1980. The National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, which give grants all over the country, both expired 25 years ago. So there’s all kinds of these programs that are entire federal agencies. The National Weather Service expired. expired 20 years ago, and we’re still appropriating money to it every year. Now, you might look at those and say, well, there’s one we still need. Okay, fine. Then why hasn’t Congress reauthorized it? The simple truth is because they can’t get a majority of congressmen to agree that we still need it. So if that’s the case, programs ought to go away, I think.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, so, and we’ve got a couple of minutes left. What about all these people that are working in all of these agencies? To suddenly slash them, everyday people that we know, they have house payments, those kinds of, what do you think about what that might do to our economy and to people? What’s your thoughts on that?
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, a lot of them are very good people. The federal government has all sorts of really good employees, but people who are really good at their jobs won’t have trouble finding something to do if their job goes away. In the federal service, they’re entitled to be transferred to a different agency so that they don’t lose a job and the benefits and so on that go with it. I’m sympathetic to those people, but I’m also sympathetic to the taxpayers who finance a bunch of programs we don’t need anymore. The You know, they’ve been talking about the Agency for International Development, for example, which is a good example of one that if you look at the details, you might decide to keep at least some of it. The Bureau of Reclamation, which was supposed to be building water projects, as we said earlier, Congress quit funding water projects 50 years ago. But the Bureau of Reclamation still has several thousand employees and $2 billion a year. And they don’t do anything other than they no longer build projects to help make the deserts bloom and make it possible to live in the West. All they do now is manage old dams, which any state in America can do. In fact, there are lots of states that manage way more dams than the Bureau does, including Colorado. And they manage hydroelectric power plants, and they’re not the largest of that either. There’s nothing uniquely federal about that mission. There’s an agency that hasn’t really had a legal mission for 50 years.
SPEAKER 17 :
Wow. Okay. Boy, this is interesting times, Greg Walcher. And thank you so much. We’re basically out of time, but people can find you, first of all, at gregwalcher.com. That’s G-R-E-G-W-A-L-C-H-E-R.com. And you’ve got the archives of all of your articles there. So that’s super interesting. And the book is Smoking Them Out, The Theft of the Environment and How to Take It Back. So Greg Walcher, thank you so much.
SPEAKER 14 :
Thank you. We could talk all morning. One of these mornings we should.
SPEAKER 17 :
I think we should, definitely. Great stuff. Again, that’s gregwalcher.com. And our quote for the end of the show, I went to see S. Lewis. He’s such an amazing thinker. He said this, if a thing is free to be good, it is also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why then did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. Wow. So my friends today, be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you. God bless America. And stay tuned for our number two.
SPEAKER 03 :

It’s kind of a fun word to say, and that is quibble. Q-U-I-B-B-L-E is how you spell it. It’s an intransitive verb. It says one, the first definition, to argue or find fault over trivial matters or minor concerns. Or number two, to evade the point in question by artifice, play upon words, cavilling. I’m going to have to look that word up and we may have to have that word be our word of the day. Or by raising any insignificant or impertinent question or point to trifle in argument or discourse to equivocate. Many times where there may be a big issue. And we have many big issues out there. What we’ll see is people will want to quibble over minor details to try to take our focus off of what the real issue is. And it takes some real mental discipline when you get in a situation with someone who wants to quibble with you. And so again, your challenge is to use the word quibble in a sentence. Our quote of the day is from C.S. Lewis, born in 1898, died in 1963. He was the author of the Chronicles of Narnia, but also the Screwtape Letters, and then a number of Christian apologetics books, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, and the Problem of Pain. And he said this, he said, the Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but the God will make us good because he loves us. And our bill of the day, we talked with Representative Rose Pugliese regarding this. She’s a sponsor as well as Representative Ryan Gonzalez and Senator Byron Pelton. And that is concerning repealing the requirement that retail establishments charge a fee for providing recycled paper carryout bags. And people are, just think about it. As you see, Mayor Mike Johnston, he wanted to increase sales taxes on everybody for quote unquote affordable housing because Colorado’s less affordable. Well, the more taxes and fees you put on people, means the less money they have in their pocket, which means that is less affordable for people to be able to live their lives. And so we need to reduce these taxes. We need to reduce these fees. She mentioned enterprise zones in the first hour. And this has been a way that… Basically, Democrats, radical activist Democrats, have figured out a way to get around TABOR, which is Colorado’s Taxpayers Bill of Rights. And that was passed, I think, in 1992. And that is one of the things that the Colorado Union of Taxpayers that we really work to protect. But TABOR really says a few things. It basically says, hey, PBIs, politicians, bureaucrats, and interested parties, if you want to raise our taxes, you just have to ask us, we the people. If you want to incur debt that we have to pay off, you just have to ask we the people. And if you’ve taken more revenue from us, more tax money from us than a very generous formula of of inflation plus population. You have to give the money back unless you just ask us. And so that’s what Tabor is. But what we’ve seen is they’re instituting fees instead of taxes. Same effect. There’s less money in your pocket. But if they institute fees, they don’t have to ask us, which is really bad manners. And so our bill of the day is House Bill 25-1051. Love it. Let’s repeal some of these things that make our life more and more expensive. And as Rose said, people may say, well, it’s only a dime, a dime here, a dime there. Pretty soon you have a dollar, then you have ten dollars. And so good for them. Let’s let’s let’s get government back in its proper role. We have these important discussions because of our sponsors. And I have on the line with me, John Bozen with Bozen Law and Bozen. First of all, if you’re injured, reach out to Bozen Law as soon as possible because they can sit down and do a complimentary appointment with you or a phone call. So John Bozen, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER 16 :
Good morning, Kim. I got on a little bit late, but sure sounded like a very important discussion there, the last part of it that I heard.
SPEAKER 17 :
And as Greg said, I think we could probably do like long-form Joe Rogan with some of these guests, and we may figure out a way to do that, but super interesting stuff. John Bozen, I’ve seen on some of the ads, I’ve seen the ads for Ozempic, which people dancing and excited and people have used this for weight loss. It was really a drug designed, I think, to help diabetics. But it looks like that maybe people didn’t get all the information as they were deciding on whether or not to use Ozempic or one of its cousins, correct? Yeah.
SPEAKER 16 :
That is dead on, Kim, and unfortunately people still don’t educate themselves on what these drugs can do to them, the side effects that certain people suffer when they take that path of least resistance in terms of weight loss. And you’re dead on too with they were designed to help, they had a good purpose, lower glucose levels, they discovered that there was a weight loss benefit, and then they It’s what pharmaceutical companies do. They pumped it up. They altered it a little bit. So Ozempic became a higher dose with Wegovy and Monhero. And then they started pumping the commercials. And yeah, it’s the same pattern we’ve seen with other drugs in the past, other pharmaceuticals, not warning people of the side effects when they knew the side effects. because of the almighty dollar.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, and John Bozen, if people, I’ve always, free will, free choice, I think is really important. So I think people should have it available. I think people should be able to make their own choices about that. But the problem is, is when they’re not given all the information, right?
SPEAKER 16 :
That’s it, yeah. No problems with informed choice. And that’s where it kind of drops off. What did they know? When did they know it? People started reporting problems. Doctors started reporting problems with people that took this. When did they start to disclose to folks that, hey, there are some really nasty, potentially life-changing, potentially deadly side effects? And when you withhold that information from people, they’re not making an informed choice. And that’s the problem with the pharmaceutical industry. What did they know? When did they know it? Why didn’t they let folks know? Why didn’t they disclose with labeling and information and instructions to doctors to inform folks of this stuff? Well, it’s always the same answer. They didn’t do what they should have done when they should have done it because they’re making money hand over fist. Okay. And that’s where we step in, you know, because folks that weren’t informed took this – miracle weight loss drug, and then learned after the fact that there were problems after it was too late for them.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, and if someone falls into that category, what’s their next steps?
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, there’s lots of different criteria right now, and the timing of when they took one of these drugs is very important. So that’s for us to figure out. If someone’s taken one of these weight loss drugs, they’ve suffered gastroparesis or an intestinal blockage or gallbladder issues or many of numerous other problems that are being learned of on a daily basis almost, they should call us at 303-999-9999. So we can ask questions and determine if they’ve got a claim that we can help them with.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, that number is 303-999-9999. Now, my understanding there is Ozempic, but there’s sister drugs or cousin drugs. If they’ve had complications from those as well, is that part of all this?
SPEAKER 16 :
It is. Ozempic, Wagovi, Monharo are the big three.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay. Okay. Well, then give John Bozen at Bozen Law a call at 303-999-9999. Thank you, John, and we will talk to you next week.
SPEAKER 16 :
Thank you, Kim. Have a great rest of your show.
SPEAKER 17 :

There’s so much happening out there. Lori Gimmelstein, welcome to the show. Good morning, Kim. Thank you so much for having me on. Well, and you’ve been doing such amazing work. And I just wanted to get an update. We’re watching legislation over here at the Colorado Union of Taxpayers. And there are things that are coming through on the legislature that are of tremendous concern, taking away parental rights, giving children rights over parents. There’s crazy stuff happening. What’s the latest? What do you want people to know, Lori?
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, what I’d love people to know is that we also have some really good bills being pushed forward by Representative Brandy Bradley, Representative Bottoms, and DeGraff. And so in addition to these bills that we really have to keep an eye on that undermine parental rights, including one that is going to add to the mental health programs where children at the age of 12 can literally just hand over their their records to anyone they want to without their parents’ knowledge or consent. And that’s very alarming. And what we need people to do, so everybody that’s listening in today, if you’re not already engaged up at the Capitol in some fashion, be that going up there and talking with your representatives, sending emails to your representatives, giving testimony, there are so many ways that you can help. And we encourage people to sign up on our website at coloradoparents.org and and we can send out information to people about how they can make change happen up at the Capitol. We work with United Community Leaders of Colorado, and they have a phenomenal training for people that would like to get involved in the public square and how to do that. It’s really simple and easy, and it’s a lot of fun, and it really makes you feel good about that you are actively engaging and changing things that you’re unhappy about. So We would encourage people, sign up at coloradoparents.org. We can get you the training that you need to be active. And that’s really what we think people should be doing. You know, not just listening about what’s happening and being upset about it, but really doing something about it.
SPEAKER 17 :
Lori, it’s so great that you mentioned that. And so I’m going to, this is groundbreaking. And this is the first that you, the public’s heard about this. But as you know, I’m the president of the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, which is an all-volunteer group. And we’re taking positions on, recommending positions on a variety of bills. There’s so many down there. But we hope to roll it out this weekend where we will be selecting bills that people can just go in and they basically we’ve got our position on it. They can add something to it and they can hit send and that will go directly to the bill sponsors. And we want to we’re going to make it easy for people. So that’s a whole new thing that we have decided to dedicate funds to make that happen. So we hope to roll that out this weekend, Lori.
SPEAKER 19 :
That is amazing, Kim. I’m so excited. You guys at Cut are doing such a fantastic job. And, you know, I think collaborating all these great organizations that are working to really affect change here in the state of Colorado, you know, I think listeners should be following them on social media because that really truly is our you know, kind of main source of getting information out to the masses. And one of the things that people can do that’s really beneficial is repost a post or share a post, comment on a post, because we want to make sure people are getting the right information in their hands.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, and that’s the that’s the first step is making sure that people are informed and know what’s going on. And then then from there, your training, the work that you’re doing, people can take action on that. So that’s super important. But but Lori and I talk with Representative Rose Pugliese in the first hour. It is. And we had Representative Kindergraf on yesterday. He referred to the legislature right now as a bill mill bill. And that is really what it is, is just all of these bills. And there are good bills, as you mentioned. But many of those may not make it through because they’re being sponsored by Republicans. But I love the fact that they’re putting these pieces of legislation out there so that we can have this conversation. But there is no way that I see that these legislators can read all these bills and then contemplate on them. Think about the far-reaching consequences. You mentioned this one about children being able to give permission for people to have their medical records and the parents may not even know. And Representative DeGraff talked about that yesterday, and apparently that was an amendment that was added to a bill. Correct. I think those that are, I call that nefarious. I’m going to say that’s nefarious to be stripping the parental rights away from their children. And I’ve got to think that those that are adding those kinds of amendments, they know what they’re doing, Lori.
SPEAKER 19 :
Yes, they do. And it is very nefarious. And one of the things that I think People need to fundamentally understand is that they the legislature, the Democrats changed the definition of what is called youth. So we used to we used to call children children. So now they created this new category of children called youth. and a youth is someone 12 and up. So youth have these unique rights, I guess, that you typically would not see until the age of 18. So, you know, it’s just this manipulation, this constant manipulation of the language that confuses people, and it really weaponizes the system. And, you know, we’re seeing this play out across the state where people Children are given these rights without parental consent, and we’re seeing real harm done. We’re seeing predators moving in onto these children and influencing them, coercing them into lifestyles that they would never have naturally gone upon. So we have situations where down in Durango where there is a predator that basically has taken over the life of a teenager and the parent has been completely stripped of her rights. And it’s really alarming. We’re going to be actually releasing some information on that later this week in social media and sharing this mom’s story. It’s just absolutely heartbreaking that the whole system has turned against her. So from the education system, to the Child Protective Services, even the Plata County Sheriff’s Office, like literally not enforcing the law. And we just have to hold these people accountable and really encourage families to come forward. I do want to make sure that’s really, really clear because we have so many families that have submitted incident reports in the state of Colorado that where children have been negatively impacted by the I Matter program. So I Matter was put into law. This is a therapy program that allows children 12 and up to receive mental health care, often without their parents’ knowledge or permission. And we’ve uncovered in investigations that we’ve done and in these incident reports that we’ve received that children are actually getting assigned to quote-unquote counselors or therapists that are activists, and they are coercing children down a very dangerous path and pulling them away from their parents, even doing things like teaching them how to file for emancipation. I mean, this is just unbelievable that any state would allow a predator to come in and take over a parent’s duty. And that parent completely be left on the sidelines. It’s just horrific. So if anybody that’s listening in, if your family has been impacted by a rogue therapist or your child is talking about changing their genders, submit an incident report. Say, I consider this an emergency. This is an emergency if your child is talking about that. And we need to get your family the help that you need to help your child be saved from this.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, and Lori, I remember when I was 11, 12, 13, that was a really tough time for me as a young girl. I grew to this height when I was like in fifth grade, so I was tall and gangly, and it was a really difficult time. And I had a good family. But I could see how a predator could come in to that situation with so many of our young girls. I really feel like that they have been really targeted. And all these questions, I just feel that that’s such a vulnerable time. And these predators know that.
SPEAKER 19 :
They absolutely do. And it’s really heartbreaking. There’s an overwhelming majority of young girls that this is happening to. So typically gender dysphoria, which, you know, what you would see the kind of this questioning of, you know, is this child, you know, questioning if they’re in the right body. It happens in early, early childhood at the age of two, and 99% are males. And so we have this huge influx of middle school girls, often in groups that are now identifying as transgender, and they’re quickly being affirmed. Now, I will say, I’m so excited and so grateful for the executive orders that President Trump is issuing. But I think it’s really important to caution people, you know, that executive orders are temporary and these need to be put into law. And, you know, this is what we want people to understand is that we are going to see accountability and civil rights reform. issues reported to the Office of Civil Rights in schools. But we have a short period of time, and hopefully Congress will be able to work together to protect children. We’ll start to see that these issues become nonpartisan and that Congress is able to pass laws that are going to protect children and parental rights. But we have to be busy at the state level. And one of the things that I’m most proud of is being a co-founder and on the board of Protect Kids Colorado. And I’m sure many of your listeners remember last year that we were out getting signatures on two petitions, one to protect girls sports, keeping biological males out of female athletics in public schools, and the other one to protect a parent’s right to be notified if they’re childless and distressed about their gender. And we are getting ready to submit some titles, the title board for the ballot in 2026 now. So one of the other things that people can do, because this is how we citizens can get engaged. We’re so fortunate in the state of Colorado to have the ability to get a ballot initiative onto the ballot. And people can sign up at our website at protectkidscolorado.org, protectkidscolorado.org. And our next meeting with the public is going to be on Monday, March 3rd at 7 p.m., and that’s on Zoom. Last night we had our first call of this kind of next session, and it was a great turnout. And we’re really excited because now, you know, after this first go-round, we really know what we’re doing, and we’re really grateful. And it gives the people in the state of Colorado the ability to make changes when their legislature is so egregious.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, and we’ll continue to talk about that with Lori Gimmelstein. And she is doing amazing work at the Colorado Parents Advocacy Network and also Protect Kids Colorado as well. And these are important discussions. And so much is really under attack. I would say the human flourishing, the thriving and flourishing of everyday people. has really been under legislative and cultural attack, regulatory attack. And so it’s so important that we have all of these discussions. And another great sponsor of the show is Lavaca Meat Company. They’re located on the corner of Nevada and Maine in Old Littleton. And a great event in Pueblo at the Center for American Values on Wednesday. February 12th. It will be an On Values presentation by co-founder of the center, Drew Dix, who is a Medal of Honor recipient. And he’s going to be talking about the real Cold War. And he was stationed in Greenland for several years. Fascinating story. And so really a special event. You can get more information by going to American Value Center dot org. That’s American Value Center dot org. Online with me is Lori Gimmelstein. She is the co-founder of the Colorado Parents Advocacy Network. She’s also on the board of Protect Kids Colorado. She is doing really amazing work. Lori Gimmelstein, I continue to say that Colorado is. is at the tip of the spear for so many of the crazy things that are going on in our country. I know sometimes I think we try to out California, California, but do you think that’s accurate to say that we are at the tip of the spear here in Colorado, particularly regarding parental rights, transgender activism, all those things?
SPEAKER 19 :
Absolutely. It’s really quite frightening, quite honestly, to see how parental rights are under attack here in the state of Colorado and how children are being kind of just swooped into the DEI and the gender ideology. And, again, I’m really excited about the executive orders that have come down, and that will be implemented over the next 60 to 120 days in public schools, losing federal funding if they’re implementing any diversity, equity, inclusion, or gender ideology into the classroom. So we’re really excited about that, and we want to let people know that if this is happening in your children’s school, your grandkids’ school, You can submit an incident report. We are connected with Greg Traynor over at the Office of Civil Rights, who is the Assistant Secretary, helping to put together cases for review. So if you put an incident report on coloradoparents.org, we’ll make sure that that information gets in the right hands. so that we can ensure our children are receiving an academic education where they’re learning to read, write, and do math instead of exploring the trillions of genders and things of that nature. So I do agree with you. I think But the good news is, is that so many people in Colorado genuinely really care about this and we’re coming together and we’re making change happen. I mean, I can’t believe the cultural shift that I’ve seen over the last four years and how grateful I am to see people that, you know, may have been you know, on the line of not believing what was happening, you know, truly coming over and saying, you know what, this has impacted my family firsthand. I see what’s happening. And, you know, just really excited and engaging. And we, one of the things that we do at the Colorado Parent Advocacy Network is we bring a lot of great events to the community so that people can get engaged. And last week we celebrated National School Choice Week with over 350 kids up at the Capitol. We had a great morning class for middle and high schoolers on the relevancy of the Constitution and also a free markets activity that we did where we talked about the wonders of human cooperation. It was just so great. And you know what else was a real blessing is that Governor Polis actually spoke at our National School of Choice celebration, and he read the proclamation declaring January 26th through February 1st. School Choice Week here in Colorado, and people maybe don’t realize this, but this is a very big deal because the Democrats do not want school choice. The Democrats that are in the legislature, many of them are funded by the teachers union, and the teachers union is opposed to school choice. They want to keep all that money in the public schools so they can keep all that money funneling into their union so that they can be very politically active. But school choice is such a great option for families when your local neighborhood school might not be a great match for your kid or is failing your children. Parents deserve the ability to have their child in a school where their child is going to succeed. So we are really pleased that Governor Polis joined us for that. And I think it really sets the stage for this legislature, set for this legislative session, because last year we saw an egregious attack on charter schools with the, quote, unquote, charter school accountability bill, which was really a kill bill of charter schools. And the legislature needs to know, you know, if you’re going to push these ridiculous, egregious bills that attack a parent’s right to direct their child’s education, Governor Polis is going to say no. And we’re very grateful that he spoke there. You know, we have another great event coming up. I don’t know if you’ve heard that we are hosting the second part of our Rocky Mountain Summit series on safeguarding children from gender-affirming treatment. And that’s coming up April 6th. We are transitioning websites, so tickets will be on sale on Friday on our website at coloradoparents.org. And we just want people to know this is a great opportunity if you’re curious about gender-affirming treatment and what’s happening and you want to really get the information you need. We’re bringing together families that have been impacted by gender ideology, healthcare practitioners, data scientists. We’ve got legal experts coming. And we’re really excited about our two panels that are just going to really focus on clinical perspectives and and family impact. So we’ve got some great sponsors already sponsoring our event, including XXXY Athletics, Parents United America, Do No Harm, Parents Defending Education, and, of course, our valued co-host, Colorado Principal Physicians, founded by Dr. Travis Morrell, who’s been on your show many times. So we hope people will get online on Friday and get tickets to this event. It’s going to be at the Inverness Hilton in Lone Tree. Again, that’s going to be on April 6th.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, and people can buy those tickets at coloradoparents.org. Is that right, coloradoparents.org? Correct, beginning on Friday. beginning on friday okay boy you’re doing such amazing work so uh kane one of our mutual friends had texted me this early this morning and said that uh it has begun that the department of education it looks like trump is proposing to dismantle that what does that mean for america
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, you know, I think President Trump, before he was elected, he really made a promise to the people that if he was elected, he was going to dig into the free exercise clause of the First Amendment and the establishment clause of the First Amendment. And really, you know, what we’re seeing with gender ideology is that it really resembles a religion. really, in order to protect free speech and restore our education system, we need to focus on academics and we need to get this divisive religious social doctrine out of the hands of our schools. It really is just, to me, it’s unquestionable that gender ideology violates both those clauses. And, you know, we really need to focus on academics. So I see President Trump, his promise was given, and now he’s been elected, and now he’s delivering with these executive orders. And his staff is really on top of things, like really pulling us into calls. I was in a call last week with the Office of Civil Rights, and I don’t know if you heard, but the Office of Civil Rights dismissed the book ban hope. So all of this just nonsense about parents asking schools to provide literature that’s not obscene or have adult content. You know, for the last several years, we’ve been persecuted as domestic terrorists trying to ban books. And what they’ve uncovered with all these communications and actually the attorneys at the Office of Civil Rights actually said that these cases were dismissed. Eleven cases were sent to the Office of Civil Rights. and it was Biden’s appointee to that office that basically overrided that decision and said, no, we’re going to call this a book ban. So the Office of Civil Rights announced last week that they have dismissed this. They’ve dropped all the cases, and they got rid of what they kind of termed the book ban czar. It was really a book ban coordinator. But that was an actual job in the Biden administration. And the truth of the matter is, Schools are places of learning and there is great quality literature and children should be protected from adult content and harmful material. And that is not book banning. Book banning would be if books were against the law, you couldn’t get them at Amazon or the public library. We’re talking about school libraries. And as my good friend, the president of Parents Defending Education, Nikki Neely, says, she’s like, we don’t put Playboy in kindergarten classrooms. And that is not book banning. It’s common sense. And that’s what we need to get back to is common sense and holding school boards. and district administrators responsible. And I’m just so excited to see that level of accountability as things play out over the next several months in the Trump administration.
SPEAKER 17 :
And so just clarify for me regarding these cases, regarding dismissal. So those cases challenging having these pornographic books in schools and school libraries, those cases were brought. To want to keep that there, they were dismissed. But the Biden-Harris administration overrode those? Is that right? Yeah. Right way to say that, is that what happened?
SPEAKER 19 :
Yeah, and you can, your listeners can, if you just type in to an internet search, book ban hoax. The U.S. Department released, you know, their dismissal of these 11 complaints on January 24th. So just search book ban hoax and you can read about it. It’s just so alarming, you know, that… The department was really held hostage by this, and parents were vilified. And I’m just so grateful that this investigation revealed this, and they dismissed it. They dismissed all 11 complaints, and they no longer employ a book ban coordinator to investigate local school districts and parents.
SPEAKER 17 :
Wow, that is really huge. Now, I’m looking at my constitution, my Bill of Rights, and you brought up this establishment clause. And, Laura, years and years ago, before Supreme Court Justice Scalia died, he was here in Colorado at a luncheon, and we could ask questions. And at the time, I guess I was on city council, so it was sometime after 2012. And I asked him this question. I said, if, in fact, the Constitution in the Bill of Rights says that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of a religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. So if religion is a belief system. And basically what the Establishment Clause says is that Congress would not be making laws or – I’m extrapolating this on out – regulations using money to – put forth a religion, and you could make the case that both this transgender ideology and also climate change are religions, and the fact that we’re using all of this money and legislative power and regulatory power to push those agendas, that that is unconstitutional. Is that what you’re alluding to when you’re saying that Donald Trump is really looking at that establishment clause?
SPEAKER 19 :
Yeah, I am saying that. Gender ideology, climate change, you know, both of these exhibit many hallmarks of religion. And it’s being enforced in schools through policy and school lessons and disciplinary practices. And the government, you know, Through this, it could be seen as endorsing a belief system, which violates the establishment clause. Just like schools can’t impose Christianity or Islam on students, they cannot impose gender ideology as an unquestionable truth. Gender ideology is a lot like faith. It’s just like this belief system. And that’s where I really truly see it violating the establishment clause.
SPEAKER 17 :
Boy, that is super fascinating, Lori Gimmelstein. Super interesting. And again, tickets are going to go on sale for their next Rocky Mountain. What’s the actual title of that? The Rocky Mountain?
SPEAKER 19 :
It’s the Rocky Mountain Summit on Safeguarding Children from Gender Affirming Treatment.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, those tickets are going to go on sale this Friday. The event is April 6th. That website is coloradoparents.org. And, Lori, you and I, we are focused. We see all of these very dangerous things that are coming down, even the state legislature here in Colorado down the pike. But there are people out there, legislators that are working diligently to to protect our children and to make sure that we have parental rights. What’s your final thought on all this, Lori Gimelschein?
SPEAKER 19 :
I just encourage everybody to join the team, be a part of this movement. We are the cultural shift happening in Colorado, bringing back common sense, protecting parental rights, protecting children. Let’s really work on making the state great again and do it together in just such a positive way. And I’m really excited for people to really truly start to see the benefits of this cultural shift. And just everybody should be engaged. They should be following us at CPAN Colorado on social media. And they should sign up on our website to get engaged and informed at coloradoparents.org.
SPEAKER 17 :

And he was running for first vice chair for the Douglas County GOP. And he was elected last night. And so I want to say congratulations to him and to his wife, Key Lynn, for that victory. And that’s exciting for them. So wish them the very best. Text line is 720-605-0647. Call in line is 303-477-5600. And we’ve got Gammy on the line. And she was up late, I think, last night writing on a number of different bills that are down at the legislature. Gammy, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER 18 :
Good morning. Oh, I was so happy to hear Lori speaking. She’s on my email list. You’re probably ready to strangle me. But listen, I need to tell you something. I sent you that other bill, if you can squeeze it in, that Scott Bottoms has got going on tomorrow. And everything that you spoke about today, everything Lori brought up, is so critical in some of these bills we’re broadcasting, you know, to everybody to say, hey, guys, listen, this is danger, danger. But I want to go a step further. You’re going to think I’ve lost my mind. The bill that Scott Bottoms is having tomorrow is, is HB 251068, malpractice insurance, gender-affirming care, minors, etc. But this is bigger than that. Listen, I said I declared war on all of the doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, The organizations like the one she named and quite a few others here in the state for literally participating in fake science, fake medicine. And I think they should be named terrorist organizations and put in jail for every child that they are mentally and physically mutilating because it is not true science. And it’s coming out. But every day that they’re not stopped is a day somebody’s child is either chemically or maybe physically mutilated. Now, I know one hospital in Denver is stopping, but in Colorado Springs and the state, they’re still giving out testosterone, Lupron, and all these other, you know, chemical features, the mental features to tell them they’re in the wrong body. And there is still some surgery going on. And as far as I’m concerned, that is not just a crime against humanity. It is a crime against any minor. And I think these doctors and professional pseudos should be in jail.
SPEAKER 17 :
So, and with that, Gammy, she’s spot on. This bill that she mentioned, this House Bill 25-1068, the Malpractice Insurers Gender Affirming Care, I’m going to go down to the Capitol tomorrow to be there. at 1 30 and uh you can get information by going to the colorado state legislature’s website the prime sponsors on this are scott bottoms and senator mark basely has added on here as well and so that’s going to be a really important bill and gammy is is right. We need to hold these people accountable. We need to hold these hospitals accountable and those that are actually doing this. It’s not gender affirming care. Again, words matter. Words matter so much. It is actually, it is, it’s actually child mutilation. And if you would have told me in the old days, if you would have had enemies ride into town and line up the children and cut off the breasts of young girls and the penises of young boys, we would have said that that was barbaric. But yet we are letting that actually happen in our country right now. It’s mind-boggling. So, again, that bill will be heard tomorrow, as Gammy mentioned, Wednesday the 5th down at 1.30 at the Capitol. So I plan on being down there for that. Let’s get to a few of these different text messages. This is from Jenny. She said, you’ll notice how many of like all the great policies like school choice, Tabor, Colorado’s Taxpayers Bill of Rights, the protection of our oil and gas, family friendly rights. These were all passed under Republicans. So she says, who really cares about our freedom? So vote Republican. And and then the other thing is, is we need to be in communication with our Republican elected representatives at the local, the county and the state level to understand the proper rule of government. And when government’s in its proper role, then we as individuals can thrive and flourish. So good point on that, Jenny. And this is from Holly. She said, with everything that Doge is finding in only two weeks, can you imagine how much less we, the taxpayer, should actually be paying in taxes? And they’ve only scratched the surface. So, yes, lower taxes, as we were talking yesterday, that Congress does not have, America does not have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem. And so we need to reduce the spending, and that’s really what I think Doge is all about. And then one other thing Holly asked, how do we push back against utility companies continuing to increase the cost of energy for the average person? I think that this is another way that it’s an assault upon property rights. So higher energy costs, less money in our pocket, less thriving and prospering, and that is all because of policy. So that’s why we talk about these things every day. Be sure and tell your friends and family about the Kim Munson show. And I really do appreciate each and every one of you. Our quote for the end of the show is C.S. Lewis. He said this. If a thing is free to be good, it is also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why then did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. So my friends today, be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you, and God bless America.

I don’t want no one to cry. But tell them if I don’t survive, I was born.
