SPEAKER 01 :
Welcome to Sportsman of Colorado, Colorado’s premier outdoor radio show heard every Saturday afternoon on KLZ 560 with insights on hunting, fishing, archery, guns, and ammo from Colorado’s top outfitters featuring the industry’s leading experts on how to enhance your experience in the great outdoors. Now, here’s your host, Scott Watley.
SPEAKER 03 :
Welcome to Sportsman Colorado. Thank you so much for joining us today. Hey, we’ve got a great show in store for you. We’re going to kick it off talking about a couple events that are going to be happening here very shortly. The first one we talked about a few weeks ago with Dan Gates and Cody Lostra and talking about a banquet that’s coming up in Colorado Springs August 2nd. It’s the United Houndsmen of Colorado and Justin Anglovich joins us today. from that group so justin thanks for being with us how are you oh doing well scott thank you for having me you know people have no idea the effort and work it takes to put one of these banquets together do they no i definitely didn’t when i when you signed up to do yes yeah so i i was very naive to it and yeah it’s a it’s a mountain of work um
SPEAKER 06 :
Man, a mountain of anxiety, I’ll tell you what.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, for sure. But, hey, it’s all going to be worth it and held at a really cool place. And I’ve got to be honest, man, I’ve never been to the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, and that’s where it’s going to be held, as I mentioned, August 2nd. And the doors are going to open at 5. And, hey, great family event. You know, sometimes, man, those events are hard to find. This is going to be an evening here, four or five hours for the whole family, the 2025 annual banquet. So, Justin, take a few minutes for those that aren’t familiar with United Houndsmen of Colorado. Just kind of tell us about you guys and your mission and what’s going on.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, so we’re a 501c3 nonprofit. We’re a representative body group of, Houndsmen, dog handlers. What the bulk majority of us do is run trailing hounds and pursuit of mountain lions, bobcats, coons, a lot of different things there. But we are the representative body for the state. We are the only real active representative body. We work in conjunction with other organizations in the state to help you know, do our best to represent well what houndsmen truly are. Most people don’t know. They don’t have an idea about it. They don’t understand, you know, how much work and effort and time and energy goes into these dogs and how much we enjoy the dogs and how much the dogs enjoy it, too. So, you know, we’re kind of working our best to educate the public. We also, you know, work with Colorado Parks and Wildlife as much as we can, speak to commissions. those types of things, and work in collaboration with other organizations to try and fill the slot that we can and help educate and promote where we can. Right.
SPEAKER 03 :
Now, as I mentioned, hey, you know, this is airing here on Saturday and it’ll air a couple times on Sunday. We’ve kind of passed a couple of deadlines as far as hotel, different things like that. But tickets can be purchased at the door, correct? Correct.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, tickets can be purchased at the door. Tickets can be purchased online all the way up into the event. Online is a little easier for us because we’ve got a really good tracking for it. Hotels, we’ve actually got an extension on our hotel. You said it will go Saturday.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
We’re going to have a hotel block over at the Marriott, and if anybody calls in there and wants to get a reduced rate on that hotel, they can do so. If somebody tells you no, ask for Connie. That’s what she told me. So she’ll still negotiate the rates and things like that. But, no, it’s a really good chance. But, yeah, you want to come day of. You want to show up then. You want to buy tickets in advance. I think our sponsorships are closing this weekend. But our corporate tables and – banquet seats are up and available all the way up until the day of the event.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. And if you’ve got questions, hey, you can get in touch with me here at the station. Most of you have my cell, 720-201-8585. So I can get in touch with these guys, and they’re going to be jamming here leading up to the banquet. So if we can help you with any information, we’ll be glad to. So what can people expect? Hey, doors open at 5. What’s going to be happening that night?
SPEAKER 06 :
So like we talked about, it’s at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame Museum. It’s something at the tune of, I think, nearly 4,000 square feet of, or maybe more than that, of just glass-placed lined walls full of, you know, rodeo memorabilia and everything. And the event host there, I asked her, I said, what’s it like to walk through the whole thing? You know, and she’s like, well, you speed through it, you walk the whole thing and see every piece in 30 minutes. You want to sit and read, you can be up there for, six, seven hours worth of reading and things. And it’s very cool, very neat, um, really well put together. We’re very clean, plenty of space. We’re going to have a, also an open outdoor area that we have some access to. That’s, it’s actually pretty big. Um, and, and so, yeah, it’ll be, it’ll be a fun deal, but there will be a, a bar there and, and we’ll have a dinner dinners done by a group down here in Pueblo called Gigi’s barbecue. It’s great barbecue. Um, And then there’ll be silent auction, live auction, crowd games, door prizes, tabletop games. We’ve got a few specific prizes for the ladies to win. We’ve got a handful of giveaways for the kids. It’s very family-oriented deal. And we also have keynote speakers. One of our keynote speakers is Pat Dorsey through NWTF. She’s a legend in the state. She’s done more for hunting and conservation in this state than most people. And, and I’m absolutely blessed to have her along as well as we’ll have, uh, Robbie Kroger. Robbie Kroger works for, um, he’s the founder of Blood Origins and an absolutely outstanding guy. He’s got a South African accent, so he’s enjoyable to listen to, but he’ll give us a speech there and he’s actually going to tease and preview a documentary that he is working on. This is a documentary. The most I can give is it’s a documentary on the wolf release here in Colorado and the on-the-ground impact and some of those things. But he’s going to sneak preview for the first time that documentary at our banquet, as well as we will have some content and things from Colorado Wildlife Council, and CRWM as well. So, yeah, it should be an interesting night. It should be fun. Like you said, doors open at 5. Everybody’s got to be out by 11. We look to shut down, you know, around 10 or something like that, maybe even a bit sooner if we can just to get everybody out and have a good time and have enough time to process, clean up, and get out of there. But I think it should be a really enjoyable event.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yep, absolutely. Justin Englevich joins us. He’s with United Houndsmen of Colorado. If you’re just getting in the car, turn on the radio. We are talking about August 2nd, 5 p.m. at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame there in Colorado Springs. And, hey, it’s going to be a great evening. We’re very privileged and honored to be asked to emcee the event for these guys. And so we’re looking forward to being there as well. And we would love to see you there. And I tell you, when you look back at Prop 127, Justin, all we went through there, man, it took a lot of groups coming together to win that. And the battles are just beginning. We had Dan Gates and Cody Loster on with Dan a couple weeks ago. And, you know, hey, the battle’s not over just because we had that victory. So we all need to continue to pull together help each other and one thing i do want to mention you guys do offer memberships and even if you know you’re not quote into lion hunting or whatever this is a great organization that helps in a lot of different ways in our state so how can people become a member and maybe a few benefits of that yeah we’ve got a website um it’s www.unitedhoundsmanofcolorado.com yeah and you can become a member on there we’ve got
SPEAKER 06 :
a handful of membership options. We’ve got some donation options. You can see all the banquet details and things for that on there as well. And that’s one of the ways to become a member. But I want to touch on something that you said, you know, with the lift and everything that everybody did through 127. I came in and took leadership of the organization just prior to 127 really becoming public. And and geared up the organization to try and, you know, make a difference, make a dent, educate people and, you know, let them know. And anytime we had the chance to talk to people, they realized like, oh, this is very interesting. This is very cool. This is not easy. This is difficult. There’s, there’s, you know, a level of stewardship and sportsmanship to this that we didn’t realize. And during 127, it was, it was awesome to see everybody gear up and hunting organizations come to the town together. And, you know, the, public communities and the ag communities and everybody else, you know, and it was great to see. But what I’ve seen this year is, you know, some of that wind is out of sales. Some of the groups and some of the people that participated and really came to help then have, you know, kind of slowed down and their engagement has been less and things like that, you know, and I can understand that. I can understand that, you know, when the Wolf’s blown at the door, um, that’s when, that’s when it’s relevant and it’s consequential and people feel like they need to. But I think we also got to pay attention to when the Wolf’s got granny’s muumuu and glasses on still, you know, because that’s what we’re doing. The Wolf’s still here. It’s just not huffing and puffing as much as it was last year. It’s just still here though. And, um, that, that’s a hard point to get across with folks and things and, and, um, Thank goodness for organizations like CRWM and CWCP because those people, they keep an ear to the ground. They’ve got an eye on the things that the rest of us cannot see, and they see what’s coming and what’s on the horizon and what we’re set to fight. And I get phone calls. I get emails. And, you know, it’s nerve-wracking. It is very nerve-wracking. And I think if we don’t stand on our toes and support these organizations, and not just mine, organization’s making a difference and throwing a punch out there then we’re failing ourselves our ecosystem our wildlife our heritage um and so yeah if i could do anything in the world it’s just to help engage people to want to try and be involved at whatever capacity it is that they can whether it’s a share online it’s uh you know telling somebody to tune into your radio show because you heard a show the day before or something like that just anything that’s at your capacity, if you can do that, then that’s a benefit to us all. We’ve seen it during 127, but I hope that we have created a culture and influenced some consistency to that. And I think if we do, we can beat back the wolf every time. But if we don’t, you know, I think we stand a realistic, you know, not dramatic, not but a very realistic chance to lose a lot of our heritage in the hunting and conservation realm.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yep. No, you’re right. All right, folks. Hey, we need you to show up August 2nd, 5 p.m. at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. This is for the 2025 annual banquet for the United Houndsmen of Colorado. Unitedhoundsmenofcolorado.com is the website for more information. Hey, just to learn about them. Hey, become a member. Every dollar that you give really helps us in our state. And these guys are all in and all the battles we face and just a great group of folks. And that’s another thing about coming to these events, Justin, real quick, last minute here. But, you know, man, just to be around a lot of like-minded people today is pretty refreshing. And you meet a lot of great people in this outdoor industry and outdoor world. So, hey, great speakers. Pat Dorsey again, NWTF, Robbie Kroger, Blood Origins. Once again, a lot of games, a lot of chances to win stuff. We’ve got a live auction. Last thing I’ll close it with, if you’ve been thinking about a leopard hunt, you’ve got something pretty special.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’ve got two of them, actually. I’ve got two leopard hunts, one for 2025, which is in September, and we’ll have full details on all of that. available. And then one also for 2026, um, with a very renowned guy does really well. Um, the place that they are at is just a kind of a zoo. I mean, it is really good country that you’re in. It’s a five-star, um, um, service and, and yeah, it’s very, very good. Um, and also too, on top, you know, we’ve got a We’ve got tons of different packages and guns and normal stuff, you know, tools and anything you can imagine. There’s going to be so much there. And I’ll tell you one last thing too, Scott. Anybody that comes in, they find me and tell me that Scott Whatley sent them. that they’ve heard on their radio show. They come find Justin running around like a chicken with his head cut off doing it. I’ll give them a free drink ticket. I’ll carry a pile of tickets in my pocket, and they come up and they tell me, Scott Watt, they got me here. I’m going to give them a free drink or game ticket.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay. All right, your choice, a free game ticket or a free drink ticket. All right.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, shoot you up.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, man, we appreciate it. We appreciate it. And thanks for letting us be a small part of it. We look forward to being there, and I’m telling you, looking forward to a great night. August 2nd, so go to the website now. Don’t wait. Get your tickets and be in line there for us at 5 o’clock, and I promise you. We will have a great night. So, Justin, man, I know you’re busy. Thank you on a personal note and professional note for all you do and all you’ve been doing here over these last couple of years for United Houndsmen and just for us in Colorado. We appreciate it very much, and I’ll be in touch with you here the next few days, sir. Yes, thank you, Scott. Appreciate you big time. You got it, buddy. That’s Justin Anglovich, United Houndsmen of Colorado. And become a member. Go to unitedhoundsmenofcolorado.com to find out how. You’re listening to Sports from Colorado. We’ve got to hit a quick break, and we’ll be back with more right after this.
SPEAKER 11 :

SPEAKER 03 :
Now that the summer heat is on with temperatures in the 80s and 90s, it’s easy to forget that our pets can’t cool off by changing into shorts and t-shirts like we do. Pets wear fur year round and are limited in how well they can cool their bodies. It doesn’t take long for them to overheat and get in serious trouble with hypothermia or heat stroke. Hey, this is Scott Whatley and every summer we hear sad stories about pets being left in cars or out in the hot sun and the tragic outcome that follows. The team at Lone Tree Veterinary Medical Center wants your pets to be safe this summer and have a few tips that can help. Be sure your pet always has access to fresh water both indoors and outdoors. Limit your pet’s outdoor walks, hikes, and other outdoor activities to early morning and evening hours when it’s cooler. Bring plenty of water along for your pet. Keep pets inside during the day where air conditioning or fans keep it cooler. Make sure your pet has a shaded area if out in the yard. And never, never leave your pet in a parked car, even for a quick errand. Temperatures in a car can rise to dangerous levels within minutes, even if shaded and the windows are open. For more information on hot weather safety, check out the Stay Cool, Avoiding Hypothermia in Pets blog at LoneTreeVet.com. For more information about the many wonderful services at their facility, just give them a call at 303-708-8050. That’s 303-708-8050. Lone Tree Veterinary Medical Center. It’s the place where my pets go.

KLZ 560, your home station.
SPEAKER 03 :
Welcome back to Sportsman of Colorado. Again, if you’re just joining us, we were talking about a couple of special events. Hopefully you just heard. Justin Anglovich, United Houndsmen of Colorado. They’re August 2nd at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. And once again, we’ll be there as well doing some MC duties. But that’s going to be a great night. Another thing we talked about a few weeks ago with Dan Gates and Cody Loster is the Outdoorsman Days. And that is August 8th. and 9th, and this is held at the Pathfinder Park in Florence, Colorado, which is 6655 State Highway 115. We have been there the last couple of years with that, along with our next guest. He’s probably been attending it longer than I, but Will Marquart is with us, the owner of Davis Tent. Will, how are you, sir?
SPEAKER 05 :
I’m great, and I’m looking forward to outdoorsman days.
SPEAKER 03 :
I know. I tell you, it’s really cool. You know, one thing I want to bring up real quick here is they do that chuck wagon deal, that dinner. And I’m just reading on here, chicken, fries, steak, potatoes, beans, biscuits, cobbler, and a cold drink. Now, there’s other beverages, of course. I’m telling you, I don’t know what it would have been like in the Western-type days in a chuck wagon, but I’m telling you what, you walk by those four or five chuck wagons, you feel like you’re in the Old West, man. Those people are authentic. The way they cook those meals are super authentic. It’s pretty cool just to watch.
SPEAKER 1 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
Actually, that’s super cool to point out because, you know, Outdoorsman Days is just different than any other event. You know, they just combine a bunch of things like a really good banquet and, you know, some vendors in the outdoor industry and that chuck wagon and some archery shooting. I mean, it’s just a kind of neat event. You know, two-day outdoor event, and you can kind of pick and choose and come when you want. But I’ve got a bunch of neat things to experience that are just different than anything else going on out there.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, and truly, and you see this a lot there, truly a family event, wouldn’t you say?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, great point. It’s a perfect family event because it is outdoors, because there are interactive things for the kids. You know, that’s a great point.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, a chance to really experience the Old West, I’m telling you, and savor the flavor. Boy, you do not want to miss a chuckwagon dinner. I think the tickets are $30. Dinner is served from 5 to 6.30 on Friday night for that. So we’re going to put some things on our social media, Sportsman Colorado, where you can just scan to purchase your tickets for that Friday night chuckwagon and give you some more information. It’s Colorado Outdoorsman, and that’s outdoorsman, M-A-N, outdoorsmandays.com. So ColoradoOutdoorsmanDates.com for more information there. And just real quick, some of the things they’re going to be doing. And again, we want to thank all the sponsors, but certainly Davis Tent, Colorado Shed Company, Shields, Twin Enviro, and the Salada Gun Shop. But they’re going to have a wildlife calling contest, and those contests with cash prizes and some decent money there as well. Some hunting and outdoor demo classes, Saturday Kids Fishing Derby vendors. There’s going to be camping available there. If you’ve got some rigs there you want to camp, or maybe you’ve got a Davis tent you want to throw out, hey, that’d be awesome. Archery events, as Will mentioned. They’re going to be doing some skinning processing seminars there. They’ve got some trappers of the past going to be there. We’ll get into some of the personalities here in a moment. The Birds of Prey demo, CPW Hunter Education. Hey, that is one thing, Will. I’ve heard a lot of people struggling to find some of these hunter education classes. So this is your chance at Outdoorsman Days. And my favorite, the Ugly Hunting Dog Contest. Cash prize. All right. Don’t tell your dog when you load them in the car.
SPEAKER 05 :
I’m going to borrow a dog for that one.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, that’d be a cool neighbor strike up a conversation. Hey, can I borrow your dog? Yeah, I’m going to this ugly dog contest.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, I just can’t hurt my own dog’s feeling that way, but I feel less bad about it if it was somebody else’s dog.
SPEAKER 03 :
And, hey, a number to call if you’re more comfortable with that is 719-275-4077. Again, 719-275-4077 for more information. But I’m telling you, you need the two days. A lot going on. They got the dinner there. And then, as Will talked about, the banquet. And Will, I tell you, every year it seems like, man, I don’t know if we can do better next year, and we do better next year. So last year we were in the middle of probably 27 a lot, different things going on. But from your side of things, and you work really, really close with Dan, fill us in on a few things with CRWM.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, and I just, and thank you. I wanted to mention that, you know, in case people don’t know, I mean, this is a major fundraising event for CRWM, Power Rogers for Responsible Wildlife Management. Of course, they were the tip of the spear to defeat Prop 127 this last November. They’re also the absolute tip of the spear and most important lobbying organization that we have at the state capitol. You know, Dan Gates and his team is keeping their eye on what is happening and how we can fight against some of the, you know, absolute garbage that’s been coming down the pike out of the Capitol regarding wildlife management, which I hate to even call it regarding wildlife management. It’s so ridiculous. But anyway, it’s CRWM and the Colorado Trappers Association that puts that event on. And so that’s it. pretty cool and important for everybody to know that you know i know we all lead busy lives and this is one opportunity to you know show up or go to the banquet where you can you can really give meaningful support to sierra sure and this is support the cause protect the tradition the banquet is held in conjunction with outdoorsman days and once again we will put something here
SPEAKER 03 :
on social media where you can scan for dinner tickets. But again, you can go to ColoradoOutdoorsmanDays.com for that information. All the proceeds support the North American model of wildlife conservation. at the Colorado State Capitol. A few of the guests we’ll mention real quick. Most of you will know some of these names anyway. Fred Eichler, good buddy of ours, Sportsman’s Channel, Everything Eichler. Fred’s going to be there. They’ve got a Dalen Staker. He is a predator hunting specialist. Ray Livingston was with us last year, Mountain Men TV series.
SPEAKER 01 :
Ray’s awesome.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, he’s a super nice guy. Yeah, he is. And Laramie Sasquatch Miller, Sam Westfall, Archery in Motion. and several others. But there’s just a great group of people. And I tell you, isn’t it fun to go to an event and kind of everybody around you thinks like you do? And this is a good chance to, hey, meet some new folks, make some new friends, and even some good local businesses and organizations that we need to support. And as Will said, hey, what’s the cost? It’s a fundraiser. So we need you to come, bring some money, and help us out at the banquet. They do a nice job with that, the silent auction. They do a live auction. We’ll try to get Dan Gates back on here next week, maybe to shed some light on some of the things. But they’ve got guns, equipment, collectibles, safes, one-of-a-kind artwork, hunts, excursions, door prizes. and more so it’s going to be huge now will we were talking this morning a little bit and uh you’re going to be there a couple of your folks can’t be so uh we got a chance for somebody to be a guest of davis tent tell us about it yeah well davis tent is one of the i can’t remember what they call us but one of the headline sponsors for the event and uh we have a corporate table there and uh
SPEAKER 05 :
I would like to invite four or five people that would like to come to the event to sit at our table, the Davis Tent table. It would be a great spot. Who knows, maybe sometimes we’ll have one of those celebrities you mentioned sit down with us. So, yeah, if you’re interested, Scott, what would be the best way to –
SPEAKER 03 :
I tell you what, so you don’t get your phone blown up, I tell you what, shoot me a text at 720-201-8585. All right, we’ll do that. So send me a text, 720-201-8585, and I will get you in touch with Will. And I know five’s an odd number, but maybe somebody just needs to come by themselves, but hey. We can do four or five people there who we’ll have some seats for. So I want to thank Will for that. But we were talking this morning, and Will said, hey, let’s just throw that out to some loyal listeners. So, hey, this is your chance to drive up. And, you know, I’ve been up there three times, but I can’t remember how long it took to get up there. Is it a couple hours up there to Florence?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, I guess it probably is about that. That’s a good question. I can’t remember. I can’t even remember if I came from the shop or probably came from my house. It’s a farther away.
SPEAKER 1 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
But, yeah, a couple hours would cover it from the Denver metro area. Obviously, it lasts if you’re on the south side of town. But, yeah, a couple hours, not more than that. And one thing I wanted to mention, because you were talking about some of the kind of celebrity guests there. You know, one of the cool things about this event, if you go to other events, if you go to a seminar, you see those people, but it’s the only time you see them. These guys will be walking around this place.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, that’s very true.
SPEAKER 05 :
it’s the most accessible place to meet, you know, some of these guys that are, you know, internet celebrities or whatever, but they’re also really cool guys that have a lot to offer, you know, hunters and outdoors people. So that’s one of the great, and it’s super cool for kids too.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, exactly. And I mean, I know Jermaine Hodge, you know, he he’s done his elk calling seminar there and he is extremely, extremely good. So I highly recommend that coming up here. for our hunting season, but Jermaine will spend a lot of time. I introduced a kid to him last year, and, man, I looked over there, and in about 45 minutes, he was still talking to that one kid, you know, helping him and going through it.
SPEAKER 05 :
All these guys will take a picture with you. If you want a picture for Instagram or whatever, they’d be more than happy to take it. I mean, you know, Cam Haynes was just walking around the place.
SPEAKER 03 :
I know.
SPEAKER 05 :
I mean, you’re not going to get that anywhere else, anywhere else.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, you are correct. So once again, the dates are August 8th and 9th. Hey, you can only come for one day. I know you’ve got to pick a day, but, hey, you’ve got the chuckwagon dinner there on Friday night, and the Saturday night is the sit-down banquet. And listen, that did sell out the last couple of years, so don’t wait around and think you can get a ticket there that day. Thursday or something like that, previous to that. So get on, get your tickets, ColoradoOutdoorsmanDays.com. The number is 719-275-4077 for more information. But if you want to sit… with the owner of Davis Tent. Here’s your chance, all right? Shoot me a text. Again, we’ve got four or five seats, and we’ll take the first four or five. So my number, 720-201-8585, and we’ll get you in touch with Will and get you all the details and look forward to a great, great evening. So, Will, the big game season is not far away. Give us an update with Davis Tent, maybe what you’ve got in stock or any specials you may have going on.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, we’ve got some great things going on. We’re right in the middle of a changeover on this, but our monthly special will be coming out maybe today, which is a 16×20 tent for those of you who want a larger tent. I still have a couple of 14x15s from our last sale. Those will be a separate button on our homepage. It’ll say Deals and Steals, so check that out if you’re interested. Those are both great deals. And then, you know, our Gotents are selling like hotcakes, which is super cool. I mean, as that product has caught on, you know, even like last year to this year, I think sales of that product have like tripled. So it’s a neat product that people love. It’s super approachable. You know, from a pricing standpoint, the 10 by 10 starts at $599 and the 12 by 12 starts at $799. So that’s about it. You can’t buy – in most cases, you can’t buy a Chinese-made tent for those kind of prices. Exactly. We make them all right here in our warehouse or right here in our factory facility.
SPEAKER 03 :
Hey, I want to talk about one item. I think it was last year you came out with, and I talked to a few people about putting an ATV in it, you know, beside their camp or hay, different things. I’ll let you give a better description of what we’re talking about. But, man, that’s going to be a good item. I know we’ve just got to get the word out about it, so – Talk about that just a minute.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, we call it the Shed. And the reason we use that name is just because it’s so versatile. I mean, this is a – it’s made of our poly material, which is the same grade material that we make flies out of. And it’s a 7 – it’s approximately 7 by 11 or – 7 by 10 or 11. When you imagine that, I can’t remember the exact size. But – What it does, you can use it in your backyard. You can put one in your backyard and store your ATV in it or kids’ toys in it. But the primary uses are going to be people with ATVs that want a place to store things because there’s no place to put things. I said ATVs, I meant RVs. No place to put toys and stuff, especially if it rains, except for maybe under the RV or something. So that’s a great usage. It’d be used as a woodshed by hunters, an ATV cover for hunters. I mean, it’s just the uses for it are just absolutely almost endless. And I think that product starts at like $399 or something. I mean, it’s really inexpensive and it is a really great utility to have with you. And again, hunters would probably use it for wood, for tack, for their horses. or for a place to put their ATVs in to keep modest snow.
SPEAKER 03 :
And, hey, you’ve got to mention the throne room. All right? That’s a must.
SPEAKER 05 :
Holy cow, I can’t make royal thrones fast enough because anybody that’s ever bought one of those shower body tents that’s made of nylon and gotten one or a half a trip or one and a half trips out of it absolutely loves our royal thrones. Again, it’s a bathroom tent or a shower tent. $389 gets you the tent with the angles to set it up, and it’ll last you a lifetime forever. You know, those kind of uses. It’s awesome.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, cool deal. Hey, davistent.com, and you’ll not find a team of folks that have more infield, in-tent experience than you will the staff at Davis Tent. So get by and see them. Let them know you heard them here on Sportsman of Colorado, and we appreciate that. Just to recap, if you’re getting in the car, August 8th and 9th is Colorado Day. Outdoorsman Days, and you can go to ColoradoOutdoorsmanDays.com for more information. But I want to get Will on here today. He has a corporate table, and we’ve got a few spots there. So once again, we’ve got about four or five seats. First four or five people to get in touch with me, just send me a text, 720-201-8585, or heck, call me, and I’ll get in touch with Will, and we’ll get your spot reserved for that Saturday night for the banquet. But once again, a great event for the whole family. They got the chuckwagon dinner, which is awesome. And again, this is a great, great, great kids event, family event. A really chance just to meet a lot of great people. As Will said, spend some time with some friends. celebrities in our outdoor industry get some good pics autographs they’re all super great to do that and we would love to see you there and once again at the banquet on saturday night it’s going to be extra cool we’re going to raise a lot of money here and help continue the fight and advocacy here for our hunting causes here in the state and will man i got a feeling these next few years are going to be super interesting there in the legislative area here in our state
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, all the support we can get, especially, clearly, Governor Polis has proven to be a non-friend of hunters and outdoors people. And so we need all the support we can get right now because the fight’s going to be real, particularly as long as he’s in office. And so… Yeah, we’re going to need all the support we can get. So, please, anything you can do, especially for Colorado’s responsible wildlife management, savethehuntcolorado.com. We sure appreciate it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yep, absolutely. Will, thank you, sir. And we’ll look forward to outdoorsman days, my friend.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right on, Scott. Great talking to you.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right, you as well. That’s Will Morcourt, owner of Davis Tent, davistent.com. This is Sportsman of Colorado. We’ll be right back.
SPEAKER 08 :

SPEAKER 14 :
Hey, Dan. You know, our jobs are pretty different. I’m a baseball announcer. You’re an attorney and a talk show host.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, but we do have something in common. Really? What’s that? Our favorite car dealer, Len Lyle Chevrolet. Yeah, definitely not your typical dealership. That’s so true, Jack. No high-pressure sales tactics. They respect your time. And when you have two jobs, that’s important.
SPEAKER 14 :
You know, I’d recommend Len Lyle Chevrolet to anyone. And with their low overhead, that means… Lower prices.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, we really do have something in common.
SPEAKER 14 :
Len Lyle Chevrolet. Go east and pay the least. Chevy, find new roads.
SPEAKER 03 :
Here’s your Water Pros Water Talk Minute with Paul the Waterman.
SPEAKER 02 :
So one of the things that we’ve learned, and you can check this out factually information for yourself by going to the EPA.gov. The EPA has a laundry list of unregulated contaminants. And what that means, folks, is that your municipality does not have to test for these contaminants. And so they’re not reported. in your annual water quality report. This is something that has to change. We have a false sense of security about the quality of our drinking water, from pharmaceuticals to the levels of PFAS and Gen X chemicals, which was recently removed from the EPA contamination list. And for example, there’s a contaminant on the unregulated list called 1,4-Dioxin. 1,4-Dioxin has been in our water supply since the early 1900s. Check out my podcast on Spotify, Paul the Waterman, or waterpros.net.

This is KLZ 560, your home station.
SPEAKER 03 :
Welcome back to Sportsman of Colorado. Thank you so much for being with us. Just a quick reminder now, you’ll miss our show here on Saturdays, 1 to 2. You can catch us twice on Sundays. That’s 8 to 9 a.m., 8 to 9 p.m. Then the following Thursday is 9 to 10 a.m. And, of course, you can get our podcast anywhere you get yours. Hey, we’ve got a couple of guys on a little early, but we’re going to get them back on next week because we try to get them on the first Saturday of every month, but we had some extra things we wanted to talk about today. So glad to welcome the crew from LT Arms. Well, not the owner. We left him out there. We’ve got Brandon with us. Brandon, good to see you. Good to see you, too. And Evan as well. How are you, bud? Good to see you, Scott. All right, so all you remember the Mile High Hunting Fish Expo, and one of our title sponsors there was Seekins Precision, and it makes some incredible rifles. Hopefully my wife’s not listening. I got one of those, and first thing I did, I just said, hey. I’ve never really had what I would call a precision rifle. I’ve just been a stock rifle off of the shelf and got a scope, zeroed it in, and I was done. And I really wanted something that would really fit into that category of precision rifle. Man, I got the right loads for the rifle, how it’s going to operate the best. optic as far as you know just arranging it getting the turret system to dial the yardage and taking all the guesswork out of it so i took it to evan over at lt arms and i said hey here’s you a new rifle all right make it work and take away all excuses so i’m gonna let you kind of pick it up from there and let’s talk about this is just one of the many services offered at lt arms that you know you can do for folks but Let’s kind of talk about if somebody really wants a precision rifle. I mean, neither say it starts with a rifle, and you guys even make rifles. We’ll get into it in a minute. But have you got a pretty good rifle in Seekins? You admit it was a pretty good rifle? Fine rifle. Fine rifle. Really nice. Well, let’s kind of talk about the steps that you kind of went through, just with mine, and then we’ll get into maybe some of the ones that you make as well. Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
So, yeah, what we did was you selected the scope that you wanted that loophole, and we got that loophole, and I had one of the gunsmiths mount that up, lap the rings, get everything done correctly. And we just boresighted at the shop. Then I went out and did a barrel break-in on it with the factory ammo that you provided. And at that point, once we completed the barrel break-in, I started developing a load for it. So I sourced just some Peterson brass, got a couple different kinds of bullets, a couple different kinds of powder. And we started working up hand loads for it. And what we’re trying to do is we’re trying to – factory ammo is great, Scott, as you know. It’s as good as it’s ever been. But if you can figure out what that rifle particularly likes and you can get down to really good – if you can get into single-digit ESs and STs, that’s extremely spread and standard DV.
SPEAKER 03 :
And explain some of the initials. You’re a smart guy.
SPEAKER 07 :
Some of us are not. So a lot of this development, you got to have a chronograph on your bench and you got to measure all this for data. And you’re going to find a sweet spot sooner or later in there for accuracy and velocity. And what you’re trying to do is get those to where you want them to be, where you want them to perform and get them as close as and repeatable and consistent as possible. That way, when you’ve got that custom turret on your scope and you’re in the field, you’re you know exactly what that bullet’s going to do at every distance you might encounter an animal. And so by virtue of going back and forth to the bench a few times and trying some different recipes, we came up with a really good load, as you discovered yesterday.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I’m telling you.
SPEAKER 07 :
When bullets touch each other, you’re alive.
SPEAKER 03 :
Nice cloverleaf groups in your paper is always satisfying.
SPEAKER 07 :
And so, yeah. And so, yeah, we got it within about 45, 50 feet per second of the factory velocities and got tighter groups ultimately. Yeah. So you’ve got a really nice consistent box of hunting loads now that We’ll do exactly what you want to do, and you know what they’re going to do.
SPEAKER 03 :
And this, I should admit, this is a 7PRC from Seekins Precision. And so, hey, if you’re around a dealer, ask them if they’ve got Seekins. Hey, take a look at that Seekins. Impressive rifle.
SPEAKER 07 :
Really nicely made. A carbon barrel makes it for a really light carrying rifle for sure. I mean, you’ve got a big piece of glass on there, but you don’t notice the weight of it because the rifle’s already so light.
SPEAKER 03 :
Not at all. I was showing it to some guys last night, and they were just saying, like, wow, even with the suppressor on it and the glass, it’s still super. Oh, yeah. It’s going to carry nice. Yeah. So as a service to customers that walk in, how’s the best way to translate what you offer by doing that and, you know, what that looks like for a customer?
SPEAKER 07 :
You bring us a rifle and you want a load developed for it. We essentially just put it through the same process we did with yours. And a lot of it comes down to the bullet selection that they want. A lot of guys want to use a Hornady bull or something like that, but there are certain bullets out there that the manufacturers don’t load. So if you want to use a bullet from a hammer, for example, and that ammo isn’t loaded with that bullet for you, we can do that for you and work up that load and get consistency for you and then build you up as many as you want.
SPEAKER 03 :
And you were even talking about one. You said, hey, if you want one that’s not out of brass, right, that you can build.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, so there are some states you have to go lead-free now.
SPEAKER 03 :
Lead-free, I should say.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, lead-free ammunition, and so we’re going to develop a load for you using a solid copper monolithic bullet.
SPEAKER 03 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 07 :
And we can do that, and they load differently, they shoot differently, and it takes some development time at the bench to do it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Now, besides you doing it all, you also teach people. We do. We teach reloading classes. Wow. Do you have people that have never even thought about doing it? And that’s probably the best student because they don’t really know anything, and they know it.
SPEAKER 07 :
Almost all of them are first-timers. They want to pursue it, but they’re intimidated. And they’ve read a couple books. They’ve watched a couple videos. They’re not really sure what they’re doing. And so we figured out the best way to do this is let’s talk about it for an hour with a nice presentation on the screen, and then let’s sit here and actually assemble ammo at the bench hands-on. And it takes all the mystery out of it, and it takes all of that intimidation out, and people just really respond well. Once they’ve actually done it, I’m like, oh, as long as I stay within these parameters, I’m safe. I can do this. It’s really satisfying.
SPEAKER 03 :
What’s it kind of take money-wise to get into reloading if somebody wants to do it?
SPEAKER 07 :
They’ve got really great starter kits. Most of the companies make them, and they’re around $500. And they’ve got everything in them you need except for your dies. And dies are specific to each caliber. So if you’re going to just do one cartridge, if you want to load your 7 mag, your .30-06, you can buy a kit. You can buy a set of dies and then components. Of course, you’ve got bullets, powder, primer, and case. But you can use your cases. That’s the whole idea. The case is the most expensive part of the components, and you get to reuse them. That’s why we call it reloading.
SPEAKER 03 :
You’ve got to pay attention to it. That’s some precision stuff going on there.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, you can take it as far as you want. I mean, like I said, you start getting into ELR competitions, and you start looking at bearing surfaces of bullets and neck tension, and there’s a lot of things you can measure, and you can get them down to where they’re all going through the same hole.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right. It’s interesting stuff. I was telling you guys before you came on, again, our guest from LT Arms in Littleton. It is 8130 unit. C. C. All right. It’s close. Hey, look for the elk on the window. You can’t miss it. All right. You need to see Schaefer Parkway, 8130 Schaefer Parkway. If you’ve been there before, they were just across the street. So you would be able to find it very easy. But I was just complimenting you guys on the store because I’m telling you, I remember, you know, when you got, hey, we’re going to be moving across the street and all the stress that was probably going on through your heads. You didn’t show much. But, man, and just – few days man that shop transformed and it’s awesome i mean not just beautiful but just the way it’s laid out um i had one guy last night i was showing this to you he goes oh i went in that store he goes man that store is awesome yeah so that is good brandon take a minute and tell us kind of the thought process and the planning process went to how you guys actually laid that out
SPEAKER 12 :
We wanted a little bit more room. The other shop was pretty cramped. You’d walk in and there was a room for five or six people to stand in there. Once you got more than that, it was pretty cramped. We also had a hallway that had our showroom down it, but it wasn’t as inviting as the new shop is. People would come in and you’d tell them, you can go there and wait in the showroom or wait in the library. We have all the historical guns. They would get surprised every time, like, there’s more stuff in here? And it was more set up like an office building, and now we have a nice, large, open space that’s probably three or four times larger than the other showroom. And we have a vault room with all the guns in it, a lot more guns. We’re getting a lot of really, really good consignment, probably thanks to mentioning it on the show last month. Well, hope so. Yeah, we’ve been getting a lot of people in there selling us lots of really nice stuff, a lot of vintage revolvers that are in great shape, a lot of rifles. So, yeah, we have the— The room with the vault door, which is the main showroom, and then we have a nice section for ammo and accessories. You go in, and we still have our library room where you can go in, and we have some nice chairs and a drink cooler, and you can look at the historic guns that we have in there. And then the new reloading room where Evan’s been spending a lot of time.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, no doubt.
SPEAKER 03 :
You know, what I kind of like about it, too, is a lot of times you walk into a shop, and everybody’s trying to do everything, which I get. I mean, you never know when you’re going to be extra busy, and sometimes you may have to pull a gunsmith out maybe to help somebody. I get that. But I think the design from what I see is you’ve tried to plug people in and wanted what they love to do, what they’re really good at, and kind of have some specialists around the store in different areas. Would that be a true assessment? Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, definitely. We have our main salesman, Rich, who’s up front greeting people, but we also kind of rotate the gunsmiths in each day and have a different guy acting as service writer. And so that way if somebody comes in and there’s a major problem with something that the sales can’t assess or, you know, kind of figure out, we do have a gunsmith on hand always up front to kind of look at things and give you a quick diagnosis of what’s wrong. If it’s something they can fix fast, he can do it on the spot. If it’s something… It’s a little bit more involved. We’ll just take it into our work line and actually get it back to a gunsmith and get it worked on properly. Right.
SPEAKER 03 :
And Evan, your gunsmith certainly had a reputation in the Denver area already, and a good one. Yeah. Parker, tell us about him.
SPEAKER 07 :
Parker’s got a great reputation, and we know we’ve got six full-timers back there now. And like I said, areas of specialization, each one’s kind of got his own area of specialization. But, yeah, it’s an impressive group of artisan-level gunsmiths. They really never cease to amaze me, the things they can pull off back there. And, you know, a lot of gunsmiths get a lot of reputation for, you know, taking a long time on turnaround and that kind of thing. And I love the fact these guys just want to get it back in the customers’ hands. And Brandon just referred to it, doing spot repairs. If somebody wants to come in and have a set of sites installed, they’re going to tell me four weeks. I’m going to just hang on a minute, have a drink, watch that cool video back in a minute. And they just can’t believe that we can do it while they wait. But that’s what we’re there for. We’re there for the customer. We want to create a really nice environment and a really great experience.
SPEAKER 12 :
What are your hours, Brandon? We are 10 to 7 Monday through Friday and then 10 to 4 on Saturday. So we’re closed Sunday, but we’re open the rest of the week.
SPEAKER 03 :
Now, you were mentioning, too, you guys got some events. We’ll talk about this next week some, too. But you got some events kind of coming up. And you guys are always kind of on the planning calendar to have stuff happening, aren’t you?
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, we try to stay on our toes with that. There’s always something that the owner’s coming up with. It seems like on the hour he comes in, he’s like, I have an idea. Does that guy ever sleep, man? It seems like he’s always coming up with ideas.
SPEAKER 03 :
I don’t think so.
SPEAKER 12 :
I get texts late at night, and it’s like, what do you think about this? I think you should go to sleep.
SPEAKER 07 :
His brain’s going a mile a minute.
SPEAKER 12 :
Constantly, yeah. Our latest is we started hosting UFC fights. So for all the pay-per-view fights, we did one for the Poirier fight last weekend, and we’re doing another one on August 16th for UFC 319 tonight. So we close at 4 on Saturday. We kind of stay open after 4. Really, the party starts at 4, but we got wings from a local restaurant, West Hill Grill in Littleton. They said the best wings in town. We got their wings, and they were pretty on par. They were pretty good. So, yeah, we’re setting up. Yeah, we have wings, drinks. The fight’s playing on a few different TVs, and so… Yeah, if you don’t want to pay for the pay-per-view at your house and you want to come down, we’ve got that covered for you. Come watch the fight and have some really good wings.
SPEAKER 03 :
Folks can follow you guys on social media.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, check out our stock of guns and everything like that. All the sales staff is there.
SPEAKER 03 :
Now, you mentioned the last couple of minutes here, and like I said, we’re going to get you guys back on next week, but you mentioned consignments and things. So that is something that you offer, and most stores offer something like that. Yeah, but you know what? You guys can do collections. I mean, if somebody’s got a number of guns they want to, you know, turn into cash, I just call it, you know, and they want to go through the consignment process. Kind of explain how that works.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, well, I mean, if you have a large lot of stuff you want to consign, you don’t have to bring it down to the shop. We’ll gladly go out and kind of assess everything and, you know, catalog the entire thing, go back to the shop. Evan does a really good job of doing valuations on entire collections like that and getting people really fair prices for what they’re trying to get rid of. It works out, you know, if someone’s trying to, you know, an estate that was their dad’s or their grandpa’s or something. It’s a nice way to get a good value for that stuff and not have to deal with, you know, trying to do transfers between individual parties that you know how to shop and you don’t know who you’re dealing with. And, you know, it provides a trustworthy avenue to do that, and we do. 20% on consignments. A lot of people ask if we buy things flat out. If it’s something really nice that is undeniable, we’ll do that. But for the most part, to get the most value out of it, it really works out doing the consignment because you can get the most value for your client. And everybody’s just got to be fair-minded.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, people got to realize, hey. You know, you’re going to try to get as much as you can. You kind of take their guidance of what to price it for. But you don’t want a museum piece in there either. You know, you want you want to have something that’s going to move for them and sell for them, you know. And so I would say if you do that, listen to these guys and their experience. And, you know, you really want to turn it. Man, that’s the best way. And then they is that a 20 percent?
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, we do 20% off the top for consignments. Okay, yeah. So that’s very fair. We list them on places like Gun Broker, Guns International, Guns.com. So they go up on the Internet, too. So it gets out to a wider audience than just people coming into the shop. Sure, sure.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, man, our time is short here today, but we’re going to get you guys on next week. And, Evan, thank you. You’re welcome. Man.
SPEAKER 07 :
I can’t wait to see the photo of the elk you take with that rifle.
SPEAKER 03 :
Dude, I can’t either. I can’t either. I’m so excited, but it’s like I have no excuses now. I mean, hey, you took away every excuse. It’s precise.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s a precision instrument.
SPEAKER 03 :
But, hey, maybe you’ve been thinking about getting a precision rifle. And listen, next week we’re going to talk about a rifle that they have come up with where they can get it dialed in for you. And if you’ve got a gun that you like, maybe you’re about to buy one, hey, first of all, check out LT Arms before you do. But then, hey, get over to Evan. Let him walk you through some of the loads and different things that he can do for you and get you right on target. So thanks to all of our guests today. Thank you for being with us. Remember, Saturdays, of course, we’re here one to two. Sundays, eight and eight. 8 a.m., 8 p.m., and then the following Thursday from 9 to 10 p.m. If you ever have a question for any of our guests, shoot me a text, 720-201-8585. Maybe you can’t call in, and we’ll be sure and get those questions to our guests. So I want to thank again all of our guests today and you. Hey, have a great rest of your weekend. Leave it right here on KLZ 560.
