All right. Welcome. Hour number two, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Appreciate you all joining us and had a great first hour. And this is probably more of a of a PSA. Although I think this happens probably more often than maybe not with you all as listeners, but I think this happens maybe with the younger generation. And that is, you know, we now have AI, all sorts of different versions of AI. You know, Gronk, ChatGPT, Microsoft has their version and so on. Google has a version. And reality is it can be a really useful tool. I’ve talked about that in the past. I know there’s a lot of hate on our side and there’s all sorts of feedback on it. And I even get people that want to come on as guests. And I may have one of them on and just do a little debate with them because there’s so many people that just think it’s the wrong thing to do. We’re going down the wrong path. It shouldn’t exist. We’ve got to stop it. Well, folks, it’s already here. It’s not getting stopped. Anybody that comes out and says something like that, I kind of go back to talking about things last hour. You’re ignorant if you think that it’s going to stop somehow. It’s wishful thinking. It would be like Charlie and I back in the day. He came from the town. His hometown was the town that barcodes were first launched in. And I can remember when those first were launched as well. And it was really weird as a kid watching this code, you know, all these straight lines, thick, thin, series of on a package and thinking, okay, how in the world is that going to work? Remember, for all of you that are much younger than Charlie and I, we didn’t have even big mainframe and those sorts of computers. They were there but used only in really sophisticated situations. Yeah, IBM existed and all of that, and not that old, but remember when only big, huge banking institutions and things like that had big mainframes and stuff like that. Nobody else had a computer. Definitely a grocery store did not have a computer. There was not one at the checkout lane. So I think for a lot of us, when we saw those barcodes come out, we just couldn’t wrap our – I’ll be honest. I don’t know about Charlie, but couldn’t wrap your head around, what is this going to do? And how is this going to be used? Well, it was one of those things where the technology – of the product was behind what would have to happen to catch up with scanners and things like that. In fact, it was, I don’t think I’m exaggerating here, Charlie, it was a decade plus before any kind of a barcode reader at a grocery store really became prevalent where they could scan an item across and the glass, you know, thing behind the glass would read it. Yeah, thank you, Charlie. It was printed onto the product. It wasn’t – and they looked even a little different than they do today as far as how the packaging and all that was done because, again, it was first launched. Nobody knew exactly how this was even going to work at the end of the day. We roll past, geez, Charlie, what was that, 50 years ago now or more? So let’s go, you know, half a century, and, man, they’re used on everything. You guys can do self-checkout, which, again, some people hate. I actually like self-checkout. I can get in and out of the store much faster with self-checkout than I can having anybody else do it. Sorry, I’m just – you guys all know me. I can do it way faster. I mean, I even organize my cart to where when I get there, I know what I’m going to scan and get out faster, and I’m Charlie’s – I’m shaking his head at me because I’m such a weirdo. But I get it all dialed in. I know exactly. I mean, again, I’ve got things arranged. I know exactly when I get there. You know, Home Depot especially. I got the gun. I’m scanning. I’m done. I mean, I think the lady looks over at me like, you’re already done? Yeah, I’m not dinking around here, folks. This is not a five-minute operation for me. This is about a 10-second operation. It takes you longer to read my credit card I’m swiping in than it does me to get my item scanned. And that I’m not joking at. Unless I’ve got a big cart full. But typically, I mean, even if I’ve got boards or things like that, I’ve got everything arranged, barcodes, et cetera, where I’m in and out. So anyway, I know I’m weird and I’m different. And most people hate the self-checkout thing. I actually enjoy it. Give me that gun. I’m ready to go. Done deal. I’m talking about barcodes because when they first came out, even in the Christian community, or especially the Christian community, I should say, oh, man, that was a mark of the beast. That was the devil. These things are awful. The whole world’s going to change. We can’t allow this to happen. Well, here we are, and most Christians today use them. In fact, there’s Christian businessmen that use them in their own business to keep track of things like inventory and how many are on the shelf. And it makes things a lot faster to scan things into your inventory instead of having to input numbers by hand and so on and so forth. It’s made life easier on that end of things, way easier. And yet back then, it was the mark of the devil. It was going to be the mark of the beast. It was, you know, rapture was going to come at any time. I don’t know how many times, Charlie, I heard that, but I used to hear it as a kid. And, you know, Lord’s coming back because these barcodes are here now. Well, guess what, folks? AI, it’s different than barcodes. I get that, but not a lot. It’s here. You’re not going to get rid of it. So my thinking and what I talked about even last week, and I’m going to keep hounding this because I’ve got to get this ingrained into our side of the aisle. We need to use it as much as anybody. Teach it what it does wrong because it will learn from us inputting. And we need to be the policeman of it, not the left. We need to be the ones that are participating in it and know it better than anyone else. This is an opportunity for us on our side of the aisle to actually be involved in something that, by the way, most every other thing that ever comes along we’re absent in. We were absent in the music scene when things started to change and Elvis Presley came out and every preacher out there talked about Elvis Presley being the Satan’s son himself. And yes, I’m not exaggerating when I say that literally he was the bad guy, even though he wasn’t. He was, according to them. Then we had, Charlie, I can probably go down the list of all the different things that came out, everything from music to movies and Hollywood and on and on we go. And the church was absent in all of that. They took the abstinence approach rather than let’s get involved and make sure this ends up being the way that it should be, and in turn here’s where we are today. This is an area where the church and the conservative movement doesn’t need to be absent. We need to be present. And I’m afraid we’re not going to be because we’ve got so many people out there that are so against it and so fearful of it. And, you know, you should only fear it if you don’t understand it. And the more you understand it, maybe you’ll be more fearful of it because you know exactly what it can do. But it’s a tool like anything else, and you can use it in a way that will actually benefit you at the end of the day. And we, Christian conservatives, can help train it to do the things that we need to do versus the other way around. Running from it is not going to help us at the end of the day. So one thing, though, and this is, again, part of a PSA, the one thing you don’t want to do with AI is load your own pictures. Don’t put your picture up to have it gone through and redone and touched up and do this. If you want to do all of that, do it yourself. If you want to take somebody out of an image, there’s all sorts of tools, apps, things you can put on your own computer locally whereby you can handle that yourself. Don’t have AI do that. Because what happens is when you load your picture, your family picture, you and yourself, you and your wife, whatever, when you load that up, it’s now inside of AI and who knows where it’s going to go. So even the experts are actually saying, you know, where’s this photo going? Could it be used to train AI without you knowing it? By the way, I already know the answer. It will be. And I know the answer to the first one, by the way. Where’s your photo going? Everywhere. Everywhere. Do you know what the privacy policy of AI is? There’s not going to be a lot, folks. I’m sorry to say. I don’t care what the policy said. There just won’t be. Did everyone in the photo say it was okay to upload that, by the way? That’s another big one. Let’s say you took a big family photo, and there’s second and third cousins, and you’ve got 30 people or 50 people or 100 people in a photo. I saw one the other day where a family had like 75 people in it. Huge family reunion. So if you were going to adjust that photo with AI, you’d have to load that photo up. Okay, how many people agreed to have that done? So be really careful is my point when it comes to loading photos into AI. You don’t want things in AI. And then I guess if you don’t care and it doesn’t matter who sees this photo, well, I guess that’s up to you at that point. But just remember, some of those things you put in right now that are private will become public. And do you want that happening with that particular image? That’s my point here. And then, of course, with AI, I’m going to come back and talk about jobs and what’s changing and so on. And the reality is, yes, it is. Thank you. And you might as well learn that. In fact, you might as well learn it and agree on how you’re going to deal with it and how to overcome it and use it to your advantage rather than talking about how bad it is all the time. Okay, this is an article that actually I think Charlie had sent me last week, and this is coming out of the hill, but it’s becoming more and more of an article or topic, I should say, in articles. all the time the traditional nine to five week is being replaced by the infinite work day meaning that because of some of the things that i just got done mentioning a moment ago and the way things work electronically speaking and so on uh the reality is people are working uh depending upon their job of course are working in some cases more than just the traditional nine to five Now, what I would say is this is where, as employees, you have to be careful to not be worn out by your boss. In fact, you need to have some boundaries along those lines. On the same token, I’m also one where I understand that the more valuable you make yourself in your organization, the longer you’re going to have that job. And the less likely, by the way, you will be to be replaced by AI. Because AI can’t do some things that we do as humans. So… At the end of the day, what this is saying is the Work Trend Index found that the average American employee receives 50 work-related messages outside of standard business hours, 40% who are online at 6 a.m. are receiving emails, nearly 30% check emails after 10 p.m., and one in five review work correspondence on weekends. Well, first of all, if you’re in a higher-level position, I’m just going to say this straight up. I hope you are. If you’re in a higher level position inside of a company and you’re letting your emails and all of that hang out there and not get answered, not get read, not get taken care of, you won’t be in the high level position forever. If you do that at night and on the weekends, you won’t have the high level position for very long. Because there are things that come in in the evenings and weekends where a higher level person needs to make sure that things are going to get handled. In fact, in some cases, those things need to be handled on the weekend so that Monday morning things are ready to go. By the way, welcome to the world of being self-employed. For a lot of these people, and this is where this article I kind of chuckle at at times, it’s like, yeah, okay, well, welcome to being self-employed. I get it. These people aren’t self-employed per se. But you’ve heard me say this over and over again. They are. Everyone is. It’s something I wish I could get ingrained into our young people is whether you work for someone else and you’ve sold your time to them or you’re working for yourself and you’re selling yourself that time. Either way, you’re self-employed. Because you’re selling your time to them, meaning there’s a return for that time. And what you have to do is make sure that you’re giving them their time and then some. Because that’s giving them a good product. That’s what we in business do. You give the customer a good product, and then they keep coming back for more and more and more. Something I can’t get young people especially to understand when I talk about this, they look at you with this puzzled look like, what are you talking about? But that’s how this works. The more valuable you make yourself, the more return you’re going to get at the end of the day. It’s natural. Now, I get it. Some employers are stingy, and if you can’t get a deal put together with them where you’re going to get compensated correctly, then you know what? You’re free to go find a different job. That’s how the free market works. And there are examples of that, and that’s fine. If that employer is not willing to do anymore or can’t for whatever reason, then, you know, just have a really straight-up conversation telling them exactly what you want, what you can and can’t do, and move forward. But at the end of the day, you need to be providing a value to that particular person that’s buying your time, that company that’s buying your time. So this goes on to talk about the pandemic and the shift with it and so on and so forth, and the flexible hours and all of that, which, by the way, that trend was starting to happen even prior to COVID. The next generations, I say generations plural, not single, wanted more flexibility. gosh, folks, the last 15 years, at least the last decade, if not longer, whereby people want more flexibility. They have to have it. The way their home works and the things that may be happening with kids and sports and all these different things is, yeah, in some cases, one or two parents both need flexibility in some cases because they’re trying to juggle all of these things while still working two jobs. And some would say, well, why do they have to work two jobs? I don’t know. I’m not them. I don’t make that decision. Most of the time, it’s a lifestyle choice. Most of the time it’s because they’ve got to pay probably bills that they shouldn’t have in the first place, but they’re there, so be it. Not my place to judge. Reality is that’s what happens. So as an employer, by the way, I don’t ask all those questions. I don’t go over their family budget. I don’t sit down and say, well, you know, if you eliminated this, this, this, and this, you know, the other half wouldn’t even have to work. I don’t get into those conversations, nor do most employers. Not their place to. None of their business. That’s up to them to figure out. So I will say that I do think there’s times where you do have to set proper boundaries, just like you would with anyone else, just like a self-employed business owner has to do with their customers. There has to be boundaries sometimes because you just can’t get walked all over. But at the end of the day, they’re still the customer. If you’re an employee, at the end of the day, your boss is still your customer. I don’t know why we don’t teach that in school more, by the way, because I’ll just be straight up honest. Even the way I was raised, that was never talked about. Nobody thinks about it being that way. They think about, oh, I got this job and I got to go in and work for the man. You know, I got to be a slave. Wrong attitude. By the way, by the way, with that attitude, you’re never going to get anywhere. You’re done. You’re never going to get ahead if you have that attitude. The attitude should be, man, I’m glad I’ve got a job. I’m glad I’ve got a customer. I need more of them, by the way, or I need to get more out of this particular customer. This is my only customer right now. So, man, I need to do the best I can to extract as much out of this customer as I can. That’s what you should have as an attitude. Not, woe is me, I’m off to work. But too many people have that attitude of, oh, you know, I got to go slave away for the boss today. Can’t wait till that bell rings on Friday night. And then, you know, I got to go back in on Monday morning. Somebody asked me earlier in the last hour, sent me a text message. Do I enjoy Mondays? And the comment back was, they didn’t like weekends, so they really enjoyed their Monday morning. And they asked me, how do I look at Mondays? Guys, I look at every day about the same. I enjoy each day. I work six days a week, as you all know. I don’t really change things up. I get up at the same time on Sunday as I do during the week, which is typically 530 to 6. I don’t change that at all, even on a Sunday. Even if I had a later night on a Saturday night going to a ball game or something along those lines, I’m still up early the next day. It’s just who I am and what I do. It’s called a habit. rarely, man, I got to be really sick to stay in bed. It just doesn’t happen for me. I’m up, I’m going, I got stuff to do even on Sundays. And so for me personally, I don’t look at Monday any different than Tuesday, any different than Wednesday, any different than Friday. You get the drift. I look at every day pretty much the same. And I enjoy each day. I want to make sure I’m clear on that. I don’t dread any kind of days. I enjoy each day. Now, do I enjoy maybe the fun that we all have here on Fridays a little more than I do the rest of the week? Yeah. I mean, I’m more tired on a Friday, and I enjoy what Andy does with movies and so on, and it breaks the week up and makes that day a lot of fun. On the same token, I’m still working the next day, so it’s not like I’m totally off and done. I’ve got to come back on Saturday and put another four hours in. On air. So, bottom line, things change in the workplace all the time. You, as an employee or employer, have to be ready for those changes. And with AI, as I talked about in the last segment, there’s going to be more changes coming, folks. AI is giving people the ability. I had a conversation with one of my clients this morning along these lines. I mean, AI is going to give businesses the ability to get certain things done way faster than before. For example, I had a client this morning I don’t want to give too many of my secrets up here, but I had a client this morning where we were talking about a marketing plan for the next 12 months. I said, okay, for example, this particular company, AI knows your business, knows what you do, and so on. I said, all you need to tell it to do is create me a 12-month calendar of marketing ideas based upon seasonal conditions, because this is a seasonal business, based upon seasonal conditions. And make it where you can even put a budget in as to what you want to spend and so on. And literally, it will tell you almost down to the nth degree what you should do each month for specials. So those of you that are in business that are struggling with always coming up with an idea on what to do next, AI will help you with that. And here’s my point with this. If you’re somebody in a marketing department, go find another job. Quickly. you’re being replaced as we speak. You are no longer going to be needed. I’m sorry to say that, but you may have gotten a degree in marketing and that’s great. And maybe you can function in a way to where you can step up your game and use AI to actually help you. But if you’re in a straight marketing department, You are going to get replaced by AI. You might as well start looking for a job or figuring out a way to make yourself more valuable and do things that AI can’t do because AI can do everything, including you’re somebody that runs ads, TV, radio. You want a billboard made. AI will do all that for you. Literally. Now, they can’t take pictures of your staff and so on. That goes back to what I was talking about earlier. But it will use stock photos and things like that to give you the idea of what something ought to look like. And you don’t have to do much of anything. So I’m sorry, Mr. Marketing Department. You’re probably not going to be employed much longer. Meaning if you’re in that world, you better start shoring things up and figure out what else can you do or how can you aid in all of this and be a part of all of this and still keep your job. Just my little suggestion because of what I just said a moment ago. It really is getting that easy to have AI help you business-wise to get a lot of things done. No, you know, as much as, and I feel like this time of year, a lot of people are, myself included, I’m kind of ready for the fall, right? You know, football’s around the corner. Obviously, we’re kind of getting it on the weekends right now. We’ve got college football week zero, they call it, is upcoming this weekend, which is great. High school football starting this weekend. And so there’s a lot going on in that realm. But it just doesn’t quite seem, I don’t know, again, there’s something about football, right? You know, the cold fall air, you know, those cold Christmas mornings you wake up and Again, Dad, we kind of talked about this a little bit. I feel like we’re spoiled here in Colorado. And the reason I feel like we’re spoiled is because our version of cold is different, right? Because we wake up on a fall morning, and it may be the high 40s, right? Mid 40s, high 40s. And so it’s brisk outside, right, when you walk outside. But then by 11 o’clock, it may bump up to 68 degrees. And some people are going to be like, oh, 60 or 65 degrees. That’s not that warm world here in Colorado. That’s downright balmy in some cases.

And so I feel like we’re spoiled. But no, I’m ready. I’m ready for some football. I’m ready for football weather. I’m ready for what it means, which is Saturdays and Sundays of football. Fun-ness, you know, not, you know, with kids not sitting around anymore. But, you know, just kind of some extra fun that it brings. And I’m ready for it, to be honest with you.
SPEAKER 13 :
All right. So over the weekend, and again, we saw the Broncos play. No starters. They’re just really trying to get, I think, their practice squad and their B team, if you would, sort of. which is what a lot of teams do this time of year, although, Richard, and you know this better than I, you’re more of an expert on this than I am, although not all teams have as much depth to even be able to work on that in the way that I feel the Broncos are right now. Am I right or wrong?
SPEAKER 15 :
They are, and Sean Payton even talked about this, Dad, they are in a great position. They’ve got more depth than they… Well, I don’t want to say ever anticipated, but basically when Sean Payton took over two years ago, this is his third year now, they didn’t have this depth, right? When a guy went down, you’re like, oh, my goodness. Even last year, they had some issues. They had some struggles, right, to where it was a little bit of a, you know, if one of your key guys went down, you were like, oh, no, what are we going to do? And this year seems to be a little bit different, that they actually have got the personnel to kind of make decisions Make adjustments. For example, I heard one of the local sports writers, he covers for national, I think for ESPN he covers, but he was talking about how the Broncos’ fifth corner, a guy by the name of Chris Abrams-Drain, he would likely be a second or third corner on potentially as much as 50% to 60% of the other teams in the league. And with the Broncos, he’s the fifth guy. And if that doesn’t show you how, you know, how I guess kind of deep they are at that position, then I don’t know what does. Now, the skill positions on offense, I think they’re getting a little bit – they’re a little bit leaner, although wide receivers, I think there’s going to be some guys that they’re going to struggle with or they’re going to struggle cutting. And what I mean by that is they’re going to struggle in a good way, right? They’re going to have to cut these guys, and I don’t know if they necessarily want to. And it’s just because they’re so – they’re really good but there’s just not enough room right on an nfl roster it’s really hard to carry they call it a um a six wide receiver a lot of times right that guy that guy’s got to play special teams and some a lot of times you know if you don’t care if you carry a six wide receiver you’ve got to give up a reserve offensive lineman so instead of nine offensive linemen you can only carry eight offensive linemen because and maybe your listeners don’t know this In an NFL season, you are allowed to carry 53 guys on a roster. You can add some guys to the practice squad, but if you’re going to add a guy to a practice squad, he has to go through waivers, which essentially means he has the opportunity to be picked up by the rest of the NFL. Now, if he doesn’t, then he can go on your practice squad. He can also choose to sign with another practice squad, so that’s kind of a different conversation. But in that case, that’s kind of what happens. And so you kind of try to squeeze some guys through. And then on game day, again, this is a silly NFL thing. There has been some competitive. It’s a silly thing. I don’t know why they don’t do this. Just because you’re on the 53-man roster doesn’t mean you’re on the game day roster. And so to be on the game day roster, there’s only 47 guys that actually dress and are on the sidelines. And so for the Broncos, they’ve got to find, you’re going to hear the 53 best guys, but really they have to find the 47 best guys that they know will play for them. Because while you can have 53 guys on your roster and a lot of those six guys that sit out are usually your third quarterback, your ninth offensive lineman, they’re your guys that you can’t risk putting on waivers because another team may sign them and then you have no rights to him any longer. And so back to your original point, it’s a good problem to have for the Broncos because cut down day is coming up. I think next Monday or Tuesday, or maybe even next Sunday, there’s 90 guys on the roster right now. And so they are, I think my math is correct. 37 names. They’ve got a cut down and that’s a lot. And maybe even more than that, dad, because if there’s a surprise cut from another NFL team, uh, then they may sign that and then they have to lose someone else. But it’s a good problem to have. I think the Broncos’ roughly top 40, 42 guys are set. And I think that they did well. Although I will say this, Dad. I had a chance to go to the game on Saturday night and didn’t go. I know you’re the same way. Sean Payton, I know he’s not necessarily beholden to the fans in the preseason. However, I would argue… You have one preseason game in front of your fans this year because the Broncos have a ninth home game instead of an eighth. So that means they only have one preseason game at home. And of your three preseason games, you’re not going to play your starters in one of those. And you choose the one to be at home in front of your fans. Now, again, I get it. Preseason football, there’s not a lot to be gained from it, whatever it might be. But I’ll be honest, it prevented myself from going to the game because I didn’t really want to sit there for three hours and get home at 11, 11.30 at night with some young kids if they’re not going to have a chance to see any of the starters. And so it’s a mini pet peeve. Again, not that it matters, not that it’s going to define the season and do I think that Sean Payton doesn’t care about the fans? No. But it just was kind of – I felt like it was a little bit indicative that – And I don’t think anyone had the wherewithal to say, hey, Sean, maybe we should play our starters four plays. in front of the home fan. That would be something good to show them, just give them the starter.
SPEAKER 13 :
I’m glad you said that because one of the questions, and we hadn’t talked about this yet, one of the questions that I’ve always had is why? Just risk of injury or you need to change everything around to make that happen, so why not just start the way you want things to go so you can really do all of your analysis anyways? I mean, why not do a series of downs or two?
SPEAKER 15 :
The way that he explained it, and I think of this, is they did two practices. So they did one last week against the 49ers. They call them joint practices. And they did one this week or this past week with the Cardinals. And he kind of described it as his first time doing kind of two joint practices with two separate teams. And he thought his team did really well in those joint practices enough to not have to play. And then the other reason is the gap between the third preseason game and the first regular season game is two weeks. And they do that because of college football. They do that, I think, to give vets more time. I don’t know if it was negotiated into the latest CBA. I just know that when they went from 16 regular season games to 17 regular season games, 18 weeks, they took away one of the preseason games, right? They got from four to three. And as a result, there’s a gap. And so he basically said he didn’t, I don’t think he wanted his starters to have, Essentially, if they had played in the game on Saturday and they didn’t play in the game next, I think it’s Sunday, if I’m not mistaken, or next Saturday, whenever it is, then they would have almost three weeks between snaps, which I get. However, what I would say then is maybe adjust your scheduling, right? You know, got two away games first or I don’t know. It just kind of felt a little bit like you’re sort of just. sticking your nose up at the fans I don’t think that was the case it just felt like it and I just was hoping that they would do it differently so one question I’ve got too as far as the money and all that goes I don’t think we’ve ever talked about this even with you or Andy when it comes to the practice squad are there salary limitations there or can they do whatever they want to do there that’s one thing I don’t think I’ve ever read or heard about there used to be salary limitations there’s kind of a minimum I think the minimum is like 10 grand a week And so you’re basically on the practice squad if you’re making it there for 18 weeks, so that’s doing about $180,000, and then you get into the playoffs, they get playoff pay and that sort of thing. You can negotiate, and this is how players potentially decide which team to go to, right? Maybe the Broncos offer you a practice squad signing bonus of, Or not a signing bonus, but maybe they’ll guarantee you the league minimum, which I think the league minimum this year is like $600,000. And it’s interesting. It’s one piece that’s outside of the salary cap, Dad. And so rich owners, i.e. the Broncos and the Walmarts, right? We’ll say what it is. They have the ability to pay. Essentially, you can pay your practice squad guys whatever you wanted to. So, for example, if you wanted to go snag a guy off of another practice squad in his His practice squad money, the other team was guaranteeing him $300,000, but you wanted to get him, so you wanted to guarantee him $500,000. Well, you can sign him all day and over to your practice squad. And that does not count against your salary cap for that year. So in theory, cash-rich owners could afford to field a better practice squad. Now, in some cases, that would be kind of wasting money away because you really only want to do that with guys that maybe you think are right there and they just need an extra little bit of, you know, kind of an extra little bit of time to develop situations. But, no, to answer your question, there’s not really a cap. I mean, in theory, you could guarantee a practice squad guy a million bucks. I see. But why would you? Yeah, if you’re going to pay a guy a million bucks on your practice squad, you might as well put him on your – you might as well sign him to a minimum deal on your NFL roster because that minimum deal is – paying him a million bucks to be on the practice squad gotcha gotcha okay i don’t think i will say this and last thing i’ll say practice squads have changed over the years it used to be those guys got beat up well because of the new rules and everything that’s going on in the nfl those guys don’t get near as much contact as they used to and so they i’m not saying they’re glorified they’re still putting in the work they’re still you know doing lots of things but it’s a pretty good gig if you can gotcha okay makes sense well i appreciate that that’s something i did not know all right we’ll come back in

All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. That time of the week where we slip our car reviews in. I shouldn’t say slip in. We do these on purpose. We enjoy driving all the cars that we get. We appreciate all the manufacturers that allow us to do so. It helps our listeners out immensely when we have the ability to give firsthand knowledge of how certain vehicles work, perform, and so on. And to say all of that, Richard, we’re also very honest when it comes to cars. Vehicles. Now, you and I, we’re vehicle advocates. Sometimes vehicles get bad raps. It’s not necessarily a vehicle’s fault. It’s because the vehicle wasn’t bought for the proper purpose in the first place. So we’re very careful in looking at a vehicle for what it is. And we don’t often give bad reviews, per se, like you see a lot of folks doing. We just give honest reviews as to what’s the good, bad, and the ugly of any particular vehicle. So this week, we’ve got a 2025 Polestar. That is, by the way, Volvo’s… ev division for all of you that don’t know that when you see a pole star that’s actually a volvo but it’s a pole star it’s its own entity it does not run inside of a volvo dealership for example we drove the three uh the number three dual motor pilot plus performance fully loaded this vehicle specs out at above 90 grand richard which i’m going to start there I like this car. It had superb performance. It’s quiet inside. I’ve got a few complaints with it, but first complaint, I’ll just say straight up, it is pricey. In fact, I think it’s pricier than it ought to be for what you’re actually getting. Again, I don’t normally say a lot of negative things, but in this particular case, it’s overpriced.
SPEAKER 15 :
You and I have talked about this in this segment. I think that’s the case with some of these manufacturers. They’re pricing these vehicles. In some cases, it makes sense for a luxury performance vehicle. Maybe that’s the category that they’re going for here. A little bit unclear for you and I. However, not something that would necessarily sway us one way or another, but it’s definitely something that we’re going to point out, Dad. When you compare similarly sized vehicles, this is by far more expensive, right?
SPEAKER 13 :
Yeah, it is. And again, for some people, they might think, well, you know what? That’s right in line with some of the other high-end EVs. And I will go as far as to say this. If I were to compare this Polestar with a Tesla, for example, a Tesla Model 3, which they’re not even the same car, so that’s a hard comparison. But I will say that this Polestar… as far as fit, finish, quiet on the inside, and so on, is better than a Tesla, let’s say. But I just feel like what you end up getting in the car, the size of it, and so on. Now, its performance is fabulous. I’m going to say that straight up. And I’m not sure exactly. I guess they’re looking to go into the high-end luxury EV market. And if that’s who they’re trying to market to, then that 90K price tag is probably fine, Richard. But I just feel like for what it is, it’s overpriced. Now… As far as how it drove, its functionality, how quiet it was on the inside, again, as I said, the overall performance, power, all of that, flat out, can’t be beat. I’ll just say it straight up. The car worked phenomenally well as far as all that’s concerned. Where I had a disappointment in this car, and I’m technically savvy, so are you. We both don’t struggle. We drive enough cars and do enough things even outside of… What happens with cars and technology, we play around kind of as a hobby, a lot of technology things, Richard. We test drive all sorts of things along those lines. And the reality is it’s not that I’m technology. I don’t struggle with that. I’m not technology challenge is what I should say. So with all that being said, though, this had to be. This is my biggest complaint on this car. This had to be one of the most technically challenging vehicles to drive with all of the stuff they have going on. Making certain things work is like an act of God to get to the right screen to make it happen, and it’s too cumbersome for the average driver, if you ask me.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, and you and I have talked about this as well, and I think that a lot of these car companies can do some really creative and really cool things with the tech side of things, just because the electric motor’s open so much more it’s a simpler design right dad you know you kind of turn it on there’s a lot less moving parts those sorts of things and i think that they can do some really cool stuff with the tech side of it but i think in some cases and i’ve driven pole stars before there is definitely a large learning curve that takes place don’t get me wrong there’s some cool features right you know instead of a instead of a car key you had a card Right. You know, that you were able to use. But that also took some getting used to, which, again, we’re not going to say in Polestar, we’re not going to say that this is a detriment because it may be not. It’s part of the learning curve that your dealers and that sort of thing sort of have to kind of take the customers through. But it’s also something that we are going to note in a review because. We think it’s important for you that if you are looking for something that is really straightforward and simple to operate, at least right off the bat or for anyone that gets in the car, this may be something to consider.
SPEAKER 13 :
Okay, so all that being said, here’s the other thing that’s a little bit different about this particular car. They don’t have, as I said earlier, and this isn’t a knock, this is just the way things are. It’s kind of set up similar to what Tesla has done, meaning you have to go to Polestar to actually buy the car. There’s only one that I know of in all of Colorado, at least in our whole area here, there’s only one, and it’s in Denver. Typically, the way it works with Polestar is it’s an appointment-driven sort of a thing where you can get an idea of the car you want, and then you literally order the car online. They’ll deliver it, and it’s done much like Tesla does in regards to how to buy it. This is not the traditional dealership experience, unless I don’t know something along those lines, Richard, unless I said something wrong.

No, I think you’re correct, which, again, is not necessarily a knock on the vehicle itself. We’re just informing you of the process. And for some of you that are, maybe you want that, right? Maybe you don’t want the sales pitch. Maybe you don’t want all of the craziness that goes into buying a car sometimes. This may be a vehicle for you, but we just want you to be aware of it. It’s not a traditional car buying experience like you would typically find.

The plus side is it does have a really high range as far as how far you can drive. I did enjoy that. And again, it’s zero to 60 time is spot on. It really does run, not run, it runs.
