All right, we are back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560. This is Mark Guernsey up in Broomfield Accountable. And we’ve got Josh from Boulder Legacy and Ridgeline. And I got a message in a minute ago. Would I buy a new 2026 Ford Super Duty F-350 over a GMC or a 3500 Ram Limited? I mean, man, that’s so tough. You know, they’re all good trucks. To me, it all comes down to what dealer are you buying from? Do you have a good relationship with them? Can you get things serviced once you actually buy it? I just bought a Megacab Ram. Let me say that correctly, Ram Megacab. which i will tell you straight up and i haven’t put a ton of miles on it yet but that new six seven that they’ve got now with glow plugs and everything in it man does it work extremely well compared to the old six sevens not that it’s a lot more power but it is more powerful eight speed transmission now um i mean i for you know personally truck works fabulous now Does that mean that a Ford or a GMC or Chevy doesn’t? No, because we own some GM vehicles as well, and they work great. It just depends on what you’re looking for at the end of the day with the vehicle. What are you going to use it for? And I go back to what kind of relationship do you have with that particular dealer on getting things solved if you have a warranty issue? To me, it comes down to that as much as anything.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, it’s based on your relationship with the dealer on those trucks.
SPEAKER 03 :
And I can’t tell you on the 2020 5 and 6 Rams on the new 6.7s, are they going to be any better than the old ones? You have to go look that up for yourself. They’ve made some changes. It’s not that it’s a completely different engine, but it’s different in the fact it’s got different injection, different glow plugs. So it is different in a lot of ways from what the old engine was. Is that going to bode well for them or not? You know, time will tell. So far, the research I’ve done, there hasn’t been any major issues or complaints with the new 6.7 in the Rams. And like I said, the new 8-speed transmission that’s with them is configured very well. The truck works. I went to Breckenridge and back with mine last weekend and not towing anything, but just, you know, bare going up and back when I get a broke in. Bottom line for me, I mean, the thing worked fabulous. I mean, it’ll go up the hill as fast as you want to go up. And coming down, you put the exhaust brake on, and it’ll slow down coming down the hill. So, I mean, at the end of the day, does it work well? Extremely well. It’s just, again, buying a new truck. comes down to you know literally what are you going to use a truck for uh what kind of creature comforts do you want because each one kind of has its own idiosyncrasies when it comes to the creature comforts and then at the end of the day most of all is do you have a dealer that you’re going to work with that will help you if there’s any kind of warranty issues whatsoever that’s the way i look at buying we’re a fleet operator so that’s how we look at operating even because we do all of our own maintenance, but warranty work has to go back to the dealer for warranty. Now, speaking of warranties, Mark, you did some checking on the Kia side, and is that 100,000-mile warranty transferable? You did some research on that, and sort of, right?
SPEAKER 18 :
Without paying extra fees, that warranty gets dropped down to five years, 60,000 miles. Okay. So it about gets cut in half.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay. Can you pay and have it extended, or how does that work?
SPEAKER 18 :
It was just saying if you… bought it pre-owned from a Kia dealership, they have some options to recover some of that warranty. But outside of that, private sales, it automatically gets dropped without paying for extra expenses to extend that warranty.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay. All right, so, again, there’s a little bit, you know, it’s not completely cut and dry. Do a little bit of research on that. What I would say, though, you know, going back to buying that car used, as we were talking to Noah about, yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, do your research. Make sure you know exactly what kind of warranty you’re going to get, if any, you know, et cetera, et cetera.
SPEAKER 18 :
That Stinger at 60,000 miles is probably out of warranty if he buys it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I’m guessing, Mark, you’re right. I’m guessing you’re probably not going to have much warranty left on it, so you’re on your own at that point in time would be the way that I would look at it as well. So just a side note there. So question of the day. It kind of doesn’t go along with the key and all that we just talked about, but top automotive failure. So if any of you have any other, you know, failures i started off talking about the ford lightning and i would call that a failure you know josh brought up a great point you look at what you know ford lost but you look at what they gain in you know future technology and what they learned in that process and a lot of the rnd and so on yeah they lost you know quote unquote billions of dollars on all of that when it’s all said and done because they didn’t recoup that with sales of the pickup truck and And I mean, I have my own reasons as to why I don’t think that they did as well on the pickup truck sales. And I think even GM sort of struggles with that a little bit. Trucks are different. People expect to just get in it and go. They don’t have to stop and charge. And when you tow with an EV, your range gets dropped way down. A lot of guys with trucks are towing and so on. So I think when it’s all said and done, while the Lightning was pretty cool in its inception, when it came out, I don’t think Josh and Mark, at the end of the day, it really delivered what Ford claimed it was going to deliver towing-wise and so on, and that’s why I don’t think it sold as well.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, they sold an F-150 that was electric-powered, and that’s not really what you got.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. And I’ve not checked this. Like, for example, the GM, like I have, the EV, the Silverado EV, it’s basically a 2,500, 3,500 series truck, eight lug wheels, truck weighs a boatload. I mean, the truck weighs like 8,700 pounds. So it’s basically a three-quarter ton EV is what it ends up being. I don’t think the F-150 Lightning was built in the same way. It wasn’t. In other words, it’s got the same lug pattern, same wheels, same – it’s not a different platform is my point, right?
SPEAKER 04 :
No. The ones we’ve worked on, it’s pretty much an F-150 that they put electric –
SPEAKER 03 :
rear end and basically and batteries under the okay under the hood all right now i’ll tell you one thing the biggest advantage that i have with the silverado over any other truck i’ve ever driven and i’ll tell you straight up it’s the best truck i’ve ever owned as far as usability goes the four-wheel steer because it’ll do what the hummer does with the crab walk and so on But the four-wheel steer when it comes to parking and getting into tight spots and so on, in fact, it takes a little bit of getting used to when you start backing into places because with the four-wheel steer, it turns so much tighter than what – I mean, it’ll turn like a Prius, and I’m not exaggerating. It literally will turn tighter than my Chevy Equinox. It’s amazing how tight of a turn that it will make, all because the back wheels steer. So, again, those are some things that, as Josh said, the Lightning was first. GM came out after, but GM started from scratch. They didn’t take a Silverado and then build an EV. They took the EV platform and built a truck out of it.

Clean sheet. Yeah, clean sheet. And to their credit, does the thing work? Yeah, like a champ. And again, don’t knock an EV until you drive it because zero to 60 times in that truck is as fast as most any sports car. I mean, if you want to pull into traffic, there’s times I know people are looking at me like, what was that that just went by? I mean, you literally can be merging into traffic and be, you know, you can be at a rolling stop to 65 miles an hour in no time flat. And I’m sure people are looking at it like, what just happened there? And there’s no sound. It’s not like driving a regular pickup truck. So anyways, you know, was that an automotive failure on Ford’s part? Some would say it is. I look at it like Josh does. You know, they learned a lot of… of technology and just information that they gathered with that, that they will definitely apply to future things. And are EVs dead? That’s the other thing. Okay. So I want to ask your opinion on some LS motors. Okay. And I’ll quickly tell you what I’m trying to accomplish. Sure. I’ve got a 1960 Ford. pickup truck, a very nice one. It came with an LS motor on the side. I want to be able to tow a car trailer uphill and upwind from the shows in Kansas and Oklahoma, loaded car trailer. So this, as near as I can tell, is a Gen 3 5.3. It has 150 pounds compression. And the transmission guy told me the, what is that, an L460, the small transmission. He said it’s pretty well, it’s burned up, and it has the wrong tail shaft on it. Of course, I need a two-wheel drive tail shaft. Do I need to just set this aside and get a bigger, better LS motor, or will this do what I want it to do?
SPEAKER 03 :
How heavy is the trailer and the car?
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, a car trailer and an old Ford on there, it’s going to be 5,000 pounds.
SPEAKER 03 :
You’re borderline, because the 5.3s, I mean, they were great running around, playing. A lot of the Suburbans and Tahos had them. That was the cast iron block Gen 3. I mean, they worked extremely well, got great fuel economy. All that was great, Marty. But you put a lot of weight behind them, and mileage went down, didn’t quite have the power. That’s where, of course, the 6.2s came along. It became so much better for guys that wanted that performance end of things. You know, on flat land, if you’re not going anywhere other than just flat, would you be okay? Yeah, you’d probably be okay with that. But if you do anything at all where you’ve got some inclines, hills, mountains, whatever, it’s not going to be enough.
SPEAKER 08 :
Uh-huh. Yeah. I find that with my old Ford 5.4 tow truck, it – It’s great going downhill to Kansas.
SPEAKER 03 :
Not so much coming back. Yeah, great point. And you’re going to find the same thing with that 5.3, you know, with the Gen 3 5.3. You’re going to find it be the same way. I can’t remember horsepower-wise on those. They were, what, 320-ish or so, I want to say. Is that about right, Marty? Yeah. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, okay. It’s 150 psi, pretty good.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, you’re fine there. There’s no issues with that. I mean, the engine sounds solid. I just don’t think it’s going to have the power that you want for what you’re doing.
SPEAKER 04 :
And even if it had enough power to get it done, it’s just going to be so hungry because you’re just going to work it the whole time.
SPEAKER 08 :
Do you have some ideas on where to go shopping for a good 6.2 and what would that be, a 4L80 transmission?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, well, and it really comes down to budget. I mean, you can go to the guys in Nebraska, Bulletproof Engines. They’ve got a host of engines that literally, Marty, you just decide, you know, speed costs money, how fast can you afford to go thing, and I’m not joking on that. They literally would have anything you want, and I’m not exaggerating when I say that.
SPEAKER 08 :
Bulletproof motors or engines?
SPEAKER 03 :
I think it’s either, is it Bulletproof or is it Bullet Point? Sorry, let me look it up here.
SPEAKER 04 :
Bulletproof is a diesel, guys.
SPEAKER 03 :
It’s not Blueprint Engines, or maybe that’s what it’s called.

Yeah, I think you’re thinking Blueprint.

And they literally, and good guys. I’ve talked to them at some of the different shows and stuff. I’ve been to huge facility building, you know, high-performance crate engines. And, you know, you can just go look at, you know, just go to their website, click on the GM compatible end, and just kind of start figuring out what engine do you want.
SPEAKER 04 :
And that 4L80 behind it will make a lot of difference. Yeah, 80 not the 60. Yeah, the 60 is going to have troubles.
SPEAKER 03 :
And, again, like I say, Marty, really, when it comes to even the LS motors, they’ve got all of those as well. They’ve got the early non-LS. They’ve got the later model LS. I mean, you decide what you want to buy, and they’ve got what you need, literally. Right. and probably everything in between. And I’m not exaggerating when I say that. They have got a host of things you can buy. I mean, on the GM side, six pages of choices.
SPEAKER 08 :
Wow. And for a 6.0 with the six-speed transmission, where should I be paying? About $3,000 for a good used one?
SPEAKER 07 :
Hmm.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s a good question. I haven’t bought anything used along those lines forever, Marty. I don’t know that I can answer that one, to be honest with you. I don’t think I can.

That one, yeah, I haven’t bought anything used like that for a long, long time. Yes, sir. In the past, you’ve recommended a Napa jump box. Yeah. I’m wondering, the worst case that I would be using it would be to start an old Suburban 5.7 liter. Okay. But I also wonder if they could be just used on a generator that is basically in standby over the years. Because a regular battery will drain. A jump box seems to retain its charge better. Is that correct?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, you leave a jump box plugged in typically, and yes, it will. Now, I will say, because I’ve had one that I’ve put two – I’ve owned it long enough now where I’ve put two batteries. I’ve rebatteried it twice because over time that lithium battery inside, which is just a small little battery, it’s just got – quite a few cranking amps, if you would, to help jumpstart trucks and whatever. I’ve got one of the larger units where you’ve got the little handle on top and the actual jumper cables and so on. You can buy that all the way down to little handheld units. NAPA sells them all.
SPEAKER 05 :
I see. Okay. And do they come typically with a USB port or solar cell recharge or any of that?
SPEAKER 03 :
Some do, some don’t. Some don’t, yeah. It depends. I see. Okay. And by the way, they’re all online. If you go to NAPA’s website, you’ll find all of those online. Core is a company that makes them for NAPA. There are several different lines inside of the NAPA line itself. NAPA doesn’t build those themselves. They’ve got people that are building them themselves. Four of them, but there’s probably two or three different, you know, quote-unquote brands, John, that they sell. I see.
SPEAKER 05 :
Has any of them ever been recalled due to fire hazard or anything?
SPEAKER 03 :
Not that I know of, no. Uh-uh.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. All right. Well, I’ll look at NAPA’s website and come up with a decision.

And, yeah, for those of you listening, because I’ve got my own little shop at home and so on, I’ve got one of the larger units like you’d use in a shop like Mark and Josh have because I do enough stuff with, I don’t know, from tractors to, I don’t know, nonsense, you know, something, you know. When you have a bunch of stuff, there’s always a dead battery. No, there isn’t. I don’t care. I keep battery tenders on most everything, but you still end up with something. And you need a jump box periodically. And when I go out and plow snow, if I go out and help my boys or anything, I’ll throw the jump box in the back of the truck just because then you’ve got it no matter what. And if I need to jump start something, it’s much easier. And not that the little handheld units aren’t good, but the bigger units I can jump start three or four vehicles and still have plenty of power left at the end of the day. And I thought it was kind of interesting. There are a few outliers, Swiss, Ford, and Chevy, but the vast, vast, vast majority was Chrysler, Jeep, everything.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I put kids through college with Jeeps, so that would have been my answer because, yeah, I literally put, you know, multiple kids through college. Back then we worked on, you know, Jeeps, and Jeeps stands for just empty every pocket. Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yep. And what their main thing was was the electrical issues on modules, relays, et cetera. And I guess I would tend to agree that. I had a sister who bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and that thing was a Lennon. Took it back to the dealer multiple times. They finally ended up calling him. Command Central, Detroit, and they gave her another one. But there just seems to be a lot of problems there, regardless of what it is. And Rams are not any better. That’s part of the family. There’s a couple guys running around Caldas Springs that are so pissed off at the Ram, they’ve got nicely blueprinted editorial on the back of their Rams on what a POSF thing is. It cracks me up.

Those are good cars. Nothing wrong with them. Yeah.

Okay, would you prefer that? Also, I’m looking at a possible getting a used Camry like a 24. Now we’re in different leagues.
SPEAKER 03 :
The Camry Hybrid is probably, Nick, the best hybrid car, in my opinion, one of the best hybrid cars on the road. I mean, the Priuses are great, don’t get me wrong, but the Camry, you get more room, you get the trunk and all of that. I mean, the Camry Hybrid, all in all, really hard car to beat, period, and I’m not joking.
SPEAKER 07 :
As far as maintenance is concerned, any preference?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, the Camry.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, the Toyota’s going to be better. Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
You can just feel the difference when you drive the Camry versus the Sonata. I’m not saying it’s a bad car. No. I’ve had a few of them, but just get in the car and go around the block in the Camry and then do the same in the Sonata, and you’ll instantly know what we’re talking about.

Yep. Makes sense.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, gentlemen, thank you so much. You bet. And along those lines, too, for everybody listening, and I say this a lot, but keep in mind that Toyota was the originator of the hybrid itself. So when it was all said and done, they are the leaders, and they will continue, in my opinion, they will continue to be the leaders. So, yeah, if I had my choice, in fact, that’s an example. If I had my choice of buying, you know, the Hyundai, Or the Kia. And maybe the Kia and Hyundai are a year newer and a few less miles than the Camry that might be a year older and might have a few more miles, but the price was the same. I’d still buy the Camry. Yeah, I’d take the Camry all day. It’s just me. Just because that’s a 300,000-plus-mile car, and frankly, you’ll go 200K on the battery with really no issues. No problem. Yeah, at the end of the day, that one is easy. Now, here’s the thing. Finding good used Camry hybrids, good luck. Good luck. And part of that is because now they’re roughly the same price for the longest time. You could buy a regular Camry or you could buy a hybrid for about five grand more. That was back in the day. And I’ll tell you, the five grand was worth every single penny back in the day. But even now, it’s almost a wash as to which one you buy. So just just a side note there. So, David, you’re next. Go ahead.

Hey, John, you’ve been talking a lot about used cars and EVs and EV trucks today.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 09 :
And my ears started burning. I want to pay cash before the end of the year, and I don’t have the cash for a GMC used. Um, truck, uh, a lightning is going to work for me. Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
And really quick, David, I did a show on this a few weeks ago. Even though you have the cash, don’t pay cash. You’ll still get the same tax deductions, whatever else you’re looking for, uh, buying it on credit. And the reason why I say buy it on credit is because whether it’s new or used because of the way the financing arm works on that end of things, you actually get, you will get as good of a deal buying it financed as you will cash and just go ahead and pay the loan off in a month or two and you’re good to go.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, I see.
SPEAKER 03 :
You’ll actually get a better deal doing that.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay, so here at the end of the year, I’m looking at something that’s got a pretty good price tag on it, and it’s an XLT Lightning 2023, and it’s priced at $36,900, and I’m wondering… You know, I’m not a haggler necessarily unless it’s Craigslist or Facebook.
SPEAKER 03 :
And really quick, here’s something to think about. And this is me talking. You do whatever you want to at the end of the day. Because of what Ford has decided to do, you can buy a brand new one for 0% 72 months and keep your cash. Take that cash. Even if you put it in a simple savings account, you’re making money back on the cash. You’re not paying any interest on the new one. Granted, you’re paying more money for the truck, but you’re buying a brand new truck, full warranty, the whole nine yards, not getting anybody else’s problems, and it’s no interest.
SPEAKER 09 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 03 :
Wow. I mean, at that point, you’re not really haggling on anything just because, trust me, they’re going to want to get rid of these by the end of the year. You won’t have to haggle. They’re going to give you a scream and deal, period, especially with the announcement this week.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay. And where do you think that price point is going to, I mean, what kind of a percentage discount do you think? that we’re looking at.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, I’ll bet you. I mean, they’re doing the 072, so they’re taking a hit on that already.
SPEAKER 09 :
They’re trying to help you there.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I will bet you you’re going to take, and this is the other thing you’ve got to look at, is what kind of credits are there because that’s a heavy enough vehicle. There might be extra credits, so you’ve got to look at what the state’s doing. There’s no more Fed credits left, but there are some state credits, so do some research on the state credits too.
SPEAKER 09 :
It’s $9,000, but you have to qualify based on your income. Okay. I don’t know what that is there.
SPEAKER 03 :
I don’t either, and you have to look at all those factors as well, David. But I would venture to guess, I wouldn’t be shocked if you couldn’t figure out a way to get $15,000 or more off the price of the truck pretty easily.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
Meaning you could take a $75,000 truck and probably buy it for $60,000-ish. Right. Meaning compared to the used one, yes, it’s a $20,000 difference, but again, look at everything I just said.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, with the tax credits and everything else.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
So that’s not going to really feed in to the used market. You’re saying, yeah, it’s a better deal because the used market’s not going to change that much.
SPEAKER 03 :
Not a whole. It’ll change some. Probably not a lot. And by the way, you can buy an XLT. I’m looking online right now at Ford’s website. An XLT new is $63,000 minus all the other things I just talked about. So that’s a truck you could probably get down in the $45,000 range, meaning you’re not spending much more on that than you are that used one you’re looking at. Right. And you’re doing $0.72.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay. Yeah. Well, good advice, John. Meaning you’re keeping your cash. Yeah, and I can keep my cash.
SPEAKER 03 :
And you keep your cash. Do something else with it.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yep. Right. All right. Well, you’ve always helped me out. I’ve called you three or four times with old

uh european cars and all kinds of stuff so well happy to help whatever you need david let me know okay all right man appreciate you yep no very much and again that’s guys that’s a great example of where look at everything that’s out there you know a lot of times we’ll get myself included kind of get tunnel vision oh i want to do this and i know i want to do this Well, look at the other options that are out there as the example of what we just went through and try to determine, you know, is there a better deal potentially by doing something a little bit different? And, by the way, I didn’t know they had 072 on lightnings until I just looked. I’m guessing that probably was announced this past week, and I’ll bet you that runs until the end of the year. So something to think about along those lines. If you’re looking for that type of a vehicle, which it sounds like David is, well, there’s an example of how you can do that and save some money at the same time and or, you know, in his case, keep his money. And by the way, get a brand new truck that, you know, you’ve got full warranty and everything else on and that truck will run. I mean… On the EVs, this is something else most people don’t talk much about. The battery life on EVs, a couple hundred thousand, is not uncommon. Realistically, folks, I mean, you’ll see some horror stories here and there about people having a bad battery or a cell or something like that. But, man, I’m joking, folks. Those are the one-offs. Those are not norm.

And the new stuff, we’ve had a leap in battery technology. You know, back in the day, the early stuff, yeah, we had a lot of issues with when they were nickel metal hydride. But the lithium ions and the battery technology they have, even stuff that’s five years older, you know, it’s night and day.

Keep in mind, you can always go to your own insurance company or even the open market through a broker and do that on your own for less money. Always.

The insurance you’re talking about the dealer sells. Because remember, David, every single thing they sell is upcharged. That’s how they make money.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah. Oh, yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER 03 :
So, you know, gap insurance, windshield insurance, whatever, you can always go to the open market and buy it yourself cheaper.
SPEAKER 09 :
And can I tell him when I’m sitting there that I don’t want to talk to that guy?
SPEAKER 03 :
No, you’ve got to go through the F&I no matter what, and he’ll try to push you. But you just get stern and say, you know, hey, I’m buying the car this way. This is the payment I’m knowing I’m at. I know I’m at $0.72. No, I’m not buying anything else. Get me out of here. I’m done. That’s what I do.
SPEAKER 04 :
There you go. Yep, okay. You’ve got to sit in the hot box.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, you don’t have any choice. You’ll sit there one way, unless you’re a fleet customer, which I don’t always sit in the hot box because I’m a fleet customer. But when there’s those scenarios that you do, David, and I’ve helped other people buy cars, it’s just no, no, no, no, no, get me out of here.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, good, good. Hey, so you’re not going to tell me how much you paid brand new for your GMC? I would like to get that truck.
SPEAKER 03 :
No, I can tell you. I mean, by the time all the rebates and everything came in on that truck, it was right around $80,000.
SPEAKER 1 :
$80,000.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yep. Well, I’m sure you said it’s the best truck you’ve ever owned.
SPEAKER 03 :
It is the best truck I’ve ever owned.
SPEAKER 09 :
I believe you. And that’s amazing to me because it’s an EV, but, I mean… The little ID.4, John, is a great car.
SPEAKER 03 :
It is. I’ve driven them.

Yeah, you know, I mean, and I know that all the rest of them are, too, if it’s the Ioniq or whatever else. It’s just the tech is so great. And if you’ve got a charger at your house, you’re good to go.

No, you’re very welcome, David. No, appreciate it. Not a problem calling back. Those are great questions that apply to a lot of folks that are listening. And last week, I did drive right to the extra mile. And you guys can always go back and listen to that episode if you want to. I literally talked about this being from now until December 31st, literally the best time of the year to buy a car. New, used. You know, Josh is in the business. I mean, and the reason is because there’s a lot of dealers, especially, they’re trying to make quota. Mm-hmm. Some of the dealership quotas, if they hit their mark by the end of the year, they get a discount from all the way back to January of this year, of 2025. Meaning, in some cases, I’m not exaggerating, in some cases they might lose a little bit of money on your deal. just to make up a bunch of money on a lot of other deals throughout the year because they’re year-end. And I’m not exaggerating what I’m saying, folks. That’s how that works. So, yes, I’m not joking. This is the best the next two weeks because you’ve got Christmas in there. And in Colorado, the guys will close on Christmas, and that’s it. They’ll be open Christmas Eve. They’ll be open the day after Christmas. They’ll be open Saturday after Christmas. And then they’ll be open all the way to the 31st trying to get as many deals in as they can before the 1st because they know that that’s how they make their mark. And, guys, it’s just the business world and it’s how it is. It’s no different than if you’ve got a sales job and you’re trying to get things done by the end of the year and you’re trying to get your numbers up and do what you need to do, you’re doing the same thing. Well, guess what? So is the dealers. Now, some dealers will be a little bit easier to deal with than others along those lines because some of them aren’t going to be as forthright with what I just said. Some of them will just flat out say, yep, you’re at the end of the year. I’m going to do whatever I can to get you in this car. And they will. Am I wrong on any of that, Josh? No, you’re not. And you know this as well. The same applies to used.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, it does.
SPEAKER 03 :
Because they’re sitting on inventory and they’re doing the exact same thing at the end of the day. They’ve got inventory they’re carrying, and they want to get some of that done by the end of the year, and they’re trying to figure out how to get their numbers up as well, and they’re doing the same thing on the used car side. It’s no different.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, we all want to have a good year, so whatever it takes to make those numbers work for the end of the year, we’re all trying to do it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Somebody just texted, and I walked out of the finance office because the finance guy wouldn’t take no. Well, then what you just said there is exactly what you do. You just get up and leave, but… Yeah, I mean, a dealership is no different than a timeshare presentation or anything else. You just need to learn to be nice but firm and say no. At the end of the day, no, you don’t need all these things that they’re trying to sell you because, again, you can go out and buy those things on your own if those are things. So if you think you need gap insurance, well, then go to your insurance agent and get gap. Buy gap insurance if you have to. If you think you want to buy windshield protection because it’s a super expensive windshield, then go buy windshield protection. I mean, there’s multiple ways to do that. And then we’ve got, you know, Roy and Dietz over at ProTech Autoshield where they can handle all of the ceramic coating and PPF and do it the right way, by the way, window tinting and so on. Don’t buy that stuff at the dealer because every one of those things is marked up.
SPEAKER 07 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s how they make money. And I’m not against that. I’m not against guys making money. What I’m trying to help all of you save money by going direct to the source and doing that. What happens with a lot of folks, though, is they buy those extras because it’s all financed into that payment. Oh, you know, we can put this on and this on and this on and only raise your payment $25 a month. Well, but you’re still paying for that. In fact, you’re paying whatever interest rate is. In this case, it’s zero, but you’re paying interest on those things as well. So, no, don’t do that. Go directly to the source. Buy the car that you want in need, I guess I should say. Want and need are two different things usually, but buy the car you need with all the things on it that you would like to have, and then make your deal, make the best deal you can, and then move on. And say no in the finance department.
SPEAKER 18 :
But like you said, you buy the stuff there. It’s lower quality, lower value. And I’ve seen dealerships just ship it off to a tent shop down the street. They’re not doing it well or right. You’re right, Mark. And you’re paying more for it than you would have for a quality option.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s right. I had somebody text in about a month or so ago on ceramic coating that, yeah, I was in the dealership. I left because of this. Didn’t even buy anything from them because of this. They told me if I want it ceramic coated, it would be X amount of money to have it done in two hours. Well, that’s not real ceramic coating.
SPEAKER 01 :
Ooh, that’s terrible. You can’t do it in two hours.
SPEAKER 03 :
So the reality is, again, they’re trying to make a bunch of money on something that really, at the end of the day, is not benefiting the customer, but it’s putting a lot of money in the dealership’s pocket. And that’s why you just say, no, no, no, no, no. And you can figure those things out. We, collectively, between myself and Mark and Josh and Roy and Ken and Steve and all the people that are involved with Drive Radio, we collectively have the ability to help you get all these other things done without having to spend all that extra money at the dealership to do so. It’s not that hard to do, and especially at Christmas time where you’re trying to make the best deal. Now, some of you business folk that are out there, by the way, for you especially, especially if you’re in a position where you need some extra expenses, buy a vehicle that’s 6,000 pounds or more, 6,001 GVWR or more. You’re able to take the accelerated depreciation on your taxes if you do that. And for some of you that have extra income where you’re trying to deplete that income, if you would, quote, unquote, that’s one of the quick ways to do that, providing you do that right now. Here’s the other thing. Don’t let the dealership advise you on taxes. No. In fact, don’t even let them tell you this vehicle qualifies or doesn’t. Do your own research. And here’s the quickest way to do that. When you open the door to the car. Or the truck. Or anything. Look at the door sticker. It’s by law going to be right inside the driver’s door sticker. And on it will give you all of the GVWR for that particular vehicle. And you’re looking for the gross vehicle weight rating. Not how much it tows. Right. Not how much it actually weighs and all of that, but the GVWR, the rating of the vehicle, and it’ll tell you on it because the vehicle doesn’t weigh the 6,001 pounds. It’s what it will haul in and of itself, not trailering and so on, but just the vehicle. And IRS rules are 6,001 pounds. I don’t know where the one comes from or why, but 6,001 or over qualifies you for that accelerated depreciation. So that’s one of those things to really look at if you’re, especially if you’re a business owner and you’re trying to figure out, hey, I’ve got to reduce some income this year because of whatever. By all means, take a peek at that. Now, I’m also one to say, don’t buy a vehicle just to go buy a vehicle. I mean, if it’s something that you’re going to buy and use and you can use it in the business and you can make money off of it and so on then by all means go buy the vehicle i’ve never been one to just say buy a vehicle to buy a vehicle buy it because you can use it justify it maybe a swap around something that’s already in the fleet or whatever the case may be i’ve got a client right now where uh they’ve got a a employee i guess you could say where they’re thinking about doing something different inside of the business and totally justifiable if you want to do something along those lines and pass that down to an employee and get another vehicle for for the owner or whatever then you know what Be my guest. You can do all of those things right now. And again, this is the best time of the year to do so because January 1, everything resets. And no, you won’t find the same deals on January 1 that you find today.
SPEAKER 04 :
No, you won’t.
SPEAKER 03 :
And even the deals like I just mentioned with Ford and the 072, I don’t know when that goes away, but I’m guessing January 1 of 2026, they’ll have a new program. Now, on the Lightnings, that one I can’t tell you what it’ll be. Will it be any better than 072? 072 is tough to beat. I mean, that is tough to beat because you’re using Ford Motor Credits money for 72 months. And that’s one of those two folks where you don’t pay it off early. No. It’s free money, quote-unquote. You don’t pay it off early. There’s no reason to. And by the way, how do you figure payments? Take whatever the total is. Divided by 72, and that’s the payment. I mean, it’s as simple as that. Sometimes I get people where it’s like, well, what’s my payment going to be? Well, it’s simple. It’s whatever the grand total is, $60,000. Divided by 72, there’s your payment. It’s that simple. So when they’re offering you that, do the best you can to take that offer because you’re not going to find that anywhere else. All right, guys, this is, again, our last show of 2025.
