Yeah, the wild world of D.C. politics is correct. Holy cow. Last night was like Christmas morning for the Trump administration and the GOP. After last Tuesday’s election victories for the Democrats, suddenly all the momentum is back with the Trump administration and the GOP. Just like that. There were seven Democrats and an Independent who broke ranks from the Democrat Party last night in the Senate, crossed the aisle, and voted to end the shutdown. The clean CR. Continuing resolution. People are going to get paid again. Air traffic controllers are going to get paid. SNAP benefits. Resume. And just like that, the Democrats snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory. And boy, are they melting down. Oh my gosh. They are flipping out on the left. Here’s cut number seven. over on MSNBC. It was a good night last night to watch CNN and MSNBC. And I have to say that over on CNN, I was just going up and down the dial because Fox News strangely didn’t, and Newsmax and One American News, they weren’t really in live, in real time on top of the voting because it was delayed and Cornyn got held up at the airport and it took a while to get it all done. So I was watching CNN and MSNBC a lot. MSNBC was just MSNBC, melting down, freaking out. Over on CNN, there was a young guy named Polo somebody, or Polo Sandoval, I think is his name. It was really good. In fact, when he interviewed Scott Jennings, our colleague here at Salem last night on CNN, it was like a really good exchange of Scott pointing out that there were no Republican concessions given on the continuing resolution. So you do realize now, everybody now knows that the Democrats could have done this 40 days ago and no one would have felt the kind of pain that Americans have been feeling thanks to the Democrat-inflicted shutdown. You understand last night proved it, right? We get that. We now know what a bunch of liars the Democrats have been in trying to blame Trump and the Republicans for this shutdown. Oh, polling suggests… Take your poll and put it where the sun don’t shine. Because last night, eight, and I will call them brave individuals, seven Democrats and Angus King, crossed the line, crossed the aisle, broke ranks, left the reservation of pain and violence and misery and said, we’ve got to get this country open again. And you’ve got to give them all the credit in the world. I get we can be cynical. Hey, give credit where credit is due. Good for them. Good for them. Over on MSNBC, they’re not taking it too well. They’re kind of flipping out. They’re melting down. And they’re recognizing in shock and horror that Trump won again.

To go back to the original sort of part of this conversation of whether he is a good dealmaker, I mean, in a way, it seems like the president is kind of getting what he wanted 40 days ago when all this started. He was out there saying that, oh, this is all about Democrats trying to give health care to illegal immigrants. He just said that to reporters moments ago, repeated that refrain that Democrats had actually very successfully pushed back against. Then there’s all this energy in the wake of the election on Tuesday. The president made remarks saying basically, wow. Republicans are being harmed by all of this, acknowledging that he was on his back foot. And now here he is winning again. How did he do it?

How did this happen? Trump’s winning again. Oh, yeah. Like normal people decided to do a normal thing. Normal people didn’t want to play politics on the backs of air traffic controllers and cops and members of the military and poor people who need food stamps. Look, this is a battle between normal and abnormal. You don’t believe me? You know, we have here in New York City the extraordinary event of an Islamist, Marxist, 34-year-old kid coming out of nowhere and winning the mayor’s race, right? Well, the same thing almost happened in Minneapolis. Omar Fateh almost won, too. And he’s from Somalia. And, in fact, he was waving the other day the Somali flag and yelling, Somalia, Somalia, the guy that wants to be the mayor of Minneapolis. Well, check out the guy who did win, the incumbent, Mayor Jacob Fry, who it’s worth noting He’s not from Somalia.

Do you see what we’re up against here? Normal people and the lunatics. I don’t know that there’s any in between anymore. There’s just normal. There’s just us. Like, please don’t punish the American people, Democrats, because you want to try to get back at Trump because you hate Trump. And then that. But you know something? Tuesday’s in the rearview mirror. Yeah, Democrats won where Democrats were expected to win. All of the hysteria over the Democrat, there was no blue wave. You can’t have a blue wave. The only thing that would have been shocking would have been if any of the Republicans won last Tuesday. But they don’t want to tell you that. They don’t want you to remember that. They don’t want you to know that. Well, let me tell you what you should know. The adults are in charge here in Washington, D.C. The grown-ups are winning. Dick Durbin, Illinois. Catherine Cortez Masto, Nevada. John Fetterman, Pennsylvania. Maggie Hassan, New Hampshire. Janine Shaheen, New Hampshire. Tim Kaine, Virginia, Jackie Rosen, Nevada, and Angus King from Maine. Those are the eight senators who came to their senses and decided to stop inflicting pain and misery upon the American people. And they broke ranks with Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries. And they voted with the Republicans. There will now be back pay for workers. People who lost their wages are going to get paid. The SNAP benefits resume. There were so many people, as Speaker Mike Johnson said this morning on Capitol Hill, desperate for the government to open. But the Democrat leadership did not want to bend. They did not want to yield. Why? Because Trump. That’s all it is. Trump, Trump, Trump. We’ve got to hurt the American people. We’ve got to inflict damage. We want to show that we’re fighters. And we’re going to do it on the backs of hardworking Americans and poor people and seniors. Because we don’t give a rat’s rear end about them. You had eight members of your caucus who did the decent thing last night. I’m a firm believer in giving credit where credit is due. There’s not a whole lot of policy that I would ever find common ground with with this group of eight. But just witnessing the rage that the left is now exhibiting towards these eight senators shows you that they never wanted the government to reopen again. They lied. They were liars. Hakeem Jeffries, and I hate to call somebody I don’t know a liar, but based on your public pronouncements, you don’t tell the truth. Here is the House minority leader calling for an end to the government shutdown.

We need to end the Trump Republican shutdown, the longest shutdown, of course, in American history. And as Democrats, we’ve repeatedly maintained that we will sit down anytime, anyplace with anyone in order to reopen the government, to find a bipartisan path forward to enacting a spending agreement that actually meets the needs of the American people.

Well, you didn’t do any of that. Eight of your members of your caucus, seven Democrats and an independent, told you to go pound salt. And they crossed the aisle. And so, Hakeem, you should now be praising those eight senators, right? You’re grateful, aren’t you? Aren’t you thankful that there were eight members of the Democrat caucus willing to heed your call and end the shutdown? Oh, sure, you’re going to call it the Trump shutdown all day long. We’re going to call it the Hakeem Jeffries-Schumer shutdown. But forget the finger pointing. You wanted it to end, right? Well, after 40 days, it’s coming to an end. This breakthrough deal, thanks to eight members of the U.S. Senate willing to stop playing games. Good for them. Good for the American people. And good for Trump. Gosh, more winning. It’s like Tuesday was a momentary blip of excitement for the Democrats, and now all the momentum that they thought they had is gone. All the wind is out of their sails. Now the grown-ups are enjoying another great run. There have been court victories after court victories for Trump. He’s winning on the issue of immigration. He was winning on the issue of SNAP benefits. No federal judge can come along and try to subvert a presidential administration. The Supreme Court was the backstop on that. Trump has had one win after another. Last night, pardoning Rudy Giuliani and others. Because you know what? No more pumping the brakes for the Trump administration. The gloves are off. If the Democrats want to be this cruel and play dirty, well, guess what? There’s a guy in the White House who’s got sharp elbows, too. He knows what he’s doing as well. He had fun last night. And I hate to say Washington commanders. That’s so stupid. They’re the Redskins. They’re the Redskins, the commanders. But anyway… On the NFL game on Fox, Trump decided to pay a visit and go to the game. And he hung out with announcers Kenny Albert. I don’t know who the other guy was. But Kenny Albert, who, of course, is a great sportscaster, great NFL play-by-play guy, son of the legendary Marv Albert. Jonathan Vilma was the, I guess, the other guy in the booth, former New York Jet. Man, what are the Jets? Are the Jets 0-20 this year already? Holy cow, they can’t get a break. And the Giants losing in a big come from… Not a good day for New York sports teams yesterday. And I’m in New York, still grateful that I made it to my destination this morning as a result of my Uber ride. How dare you make him look normal and fun and friendly? You know, whether you hate the guy or not or love the guy, he’s one of the funniest guys you’ll ever meet. He is fun. He is playful. And he is, I wouldn’t call him normal. I mean, he’s not a radical lunatic. Here he was in the broadcast booth yesterday, the NFL on Fox.

Now you’ve done his job. I mean, it was such a great moment. And it’s like, that’s the way it’s supposed to be. He is the president of the United States. And he is playful. And he does have fun. And the left is losing its mind. And look, I’m not a vindictive person. I don’t want them to lose their mind. I want them to relax. You know, I heard from somebody over the weekend, somebody who’s a Democrat, completely convinced that the Supreme Court was going to overturn same-sex marriage today. They were going to take the case, the Kim Davis appeal, the Kentucky court clerk. And the Supreme Court, without comment, rejected the appeal. Obergefell is not going to be overturned. Gay marriage is here to stay. And this person was frantic and worried for nothing. People are panicking and people are in histrionics. Look, most Americans approve of mass deportation. You can’t be here illegally. I saw another statistic yesterday, another month with not one single illegal border crossing. There’s zero. The border is secure. He did that. Now there’s work to be done. We’ve got to be mindful of the affordability issue that people are so concerned about. And they ought to be. And they ought to be. But ultimately, we’ve just got to take a big deep breath and And gravitate towards normalcy. In my mind, coming into work today, hyperventilating over my Uber driver, I was thinking about the battle between normal and not so normal. Normal and the crazies. And there’s a lot of crazies making a lot of noise right now. So there, I mean, there were seven Democrats and an independent last night who said to the crazies of the party, we’re not going to be as crazy as you. We’re going to have to compromise here. We’re going to have to vote on this continuing resolution and we’re going to reopen the government because people are hurting. And I think, I swear, I think Democrats in control would have loved to have seen this shutdown go on for many, many months. Do you know what that would have done to poor people, to seniors, to federal workers, to air traffic controllers, to TSA agents, to cops, to military? All the people who are being so badly hurt, and they don’t care. It’s like my friend Joe Piscopo here in New York always says. The cruelty is the point. They want to be cruel. They want to inflict pain. They’re so upset about the 2024 election that all they can think of is retribution. And that’s not a winning strategy, Democrats. Let’s do what we always love to do. Had a bit of a harrowing Uber ride into work today. I noticed that the Uber driver that I was driven by to come to the studios had a picture, a screenshot, of the Ayatollah Khomeini on his cell phone. And I’m sitting in the back seat thinking, hmm, what does that mean? You know, the familiar face of the Ayatollah, the big turban and the glasses and all of that. And I thought, wow, my Uber driver, and he was a nice guy, suit and tie, very polite, very friendly. I have on, of course, my USA Israel flag pin, as you might notice as you’re watching today on Salem News Channel. In fact, I had a couple people in Chicago thank me for wearing it when I was at the big event, the Freedom Summit Saturday. I’ll tell you about that event with Scott Jennings and Ben Carson and me. We had such a great time. Hundreds of people came out to the Westin Hotel, and we just had a ball. But anyway, I was nervously trying to cover up my American flag, my USA Israel flag pin. I’m holding my hand, and I’m thinking, can I take it off surreptitiously? And, you know, with the flag, with these lapel pins, you got a little clasp in the back of it and everything. I thought, there’s just no… diplomatic way to take it off. And if he sees me taking it off, maybe that’ll make him mad. I didn’t want to make him mad. I gave him a big tip. Big tip. I wanted him on my side. One of the funniest comments came from a friend of mine. You might know him. A buddy of mine named Mark. I won’t tell you his last name. I’ll let you guess. Mark said, are you sure it was the Ayatollah or could it have been Uncle Abdul from the old country? I’m laughing at his stare like a hyena in the backseat of the car, which again made me nervous. I thought, well, I can’t laugh. I don’t want him to think I’m laughing at him with the Ayatollah picture. But really, what’s with that? Who drives around in November of 2025 in New York City with a picture of the Ayatollah Khomeini on his cell phone? That’s his screenshot. You know how you can have wallpaper on your cell phone? I’ve got mountains. He’s got the Ayatollah. I wonder how many people have Zoran Mamdani on their cell phone now. Free stuff. Free food. Freeze the rent. Free buses. Free health care, free child care. Yeah, look at me. And Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, is already saying, nope, sorry, kid. That ain’t going to happen. No, there are not going to be any free buses. We have to authorize that in the state assembly. No, we’re not going to be able to freeze the rent. No, we’re not going to confiscate private property. Nothing this kid promised he’s going to be able to deliver on. And New Yorkers are going to look at each other and say, gosh, we’ve been played. We feel like suckers. We’re just a bunch of suckers voting for Zoran. The Washington Post. Holy cow. They called him Generalissimo Mamdani. The Washington Post. Editorial by the editorial board saying, boy, what a mistake this was, basically. Would have been nice for you, Washington Post editorial board members, to have maybe posted an editorial like that about a week or two ago. Maybe a couple weeks ago, maybe a month ago. Might not have been a bad idea to do it pre-election rather than after election. Not that it would have mattered. Look, nothing would matter. Last Tuesday wasn’t a surprise. But Democrats had a fleeting moment where they thought, oh, look at the momentum. Incidentally, somebody pointed out that Chris DeGaulle this morning was talking about how the New Jersey numbers are now highly suspicious, the voting numbers. But, look, there were no surprises. The surprise would have been if any Republican had won anywhere Tuesday. It’s an off-year election. We’re in the middle of a government shutdown. The problem with the government shutdown has been, even though we know it’s the Democrats’ tactic to try to keep the government shut down, and they failed thanks to eight brave warriors on their side. And I don’t want to go overboard. I mean, we’re not going to give them a ticker tape parade, but good for them. They had to know they were going to get a lot of grief for what they did. And I want to make sure you know the list of the eight senators. I know Angus King, you know, people were saying last night eight Democrats. It’s not eight Democrats. Angus King is an independent, but he caucuses with the Democrats. So it was really seven Democrats and an independent. And I want you to know exactly who it is. Let me get the list here so I can read the eight names of the people we can thank for being normal. All they’re doing is being normal. They’re saying we don’t want to hurt the American people. We don’t want people to go hungry. We don’t want people to… Not get paid, have to go to work. I mean, I’m going through airports like a crazy person these days. And every time I go through the TSA checkpoint, all the passengers are thanking the TSA agents for working without a paycheck. And it was kind of gratifying. Again, normal behavior, normal people. Let me find the list here. I’ll get the list. I’ve got a big stack of stuff here today. I’ll find the list and I’ll read those eight names to you. But I want you to hear what Barack Obama himself said about the filibuster. Now, the filibuster, for people who don’t know, it’s real simple. If you get rid of the filibuster, all you need is 51 votes in the Senate to get anything passed. We could have done this all day long. We would be advancing the Trump agenda from now till the cows come home if we had 51 votes. OK, you got to have 60 with a filibuster. 60 makes 60 votes. Busts the filibuster. OK, so that’s Harry Reid did this with with with Supreme Court picks. And now look, we’ve got a Supreme Court that’s conservative based, a conservative majority. But I want to go back in history a little bit. Want you to hear what Barack Obama said in 2020 about nuking the filibuster.

By guaranteeing that every American citizen has equal representation in our government, including the American citizens who live in Washington, D.C. and in Puerto Rico. They’re Americans. By ending some of the partisan gerrymandering so that all voters have the power to choose their politicians, not the other way around. And if all this takes eliminating the filibuster, another Jim Crow relic, in order to secure the God-given rights of every American, then that’s what we should do. Then that’s what we should do.

Let’s look at the mechanics of this shutdown for just a moment. Because, look, make no mistake, Democrats got nothing out of it. They got absolutely nothing. 60 to 40 vote. By the way, glad John Cornyn finally showed up. What was he doing?
SPEAKER 11 :
You’ll understand this. He was delayed at Dulles.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, I believe it. There you go. So he was delayed at Dulles. He got there at the last minute, late in the night, 60 to 40, eight of them crossing the aisle, eight of them breaking ranks, eight of them going off the reservation. So let me get this straight. So what we’ve been saying all along is true. Because they were demanding the end of the shutdown. The Democrats were saying end the shutdown. Well, guess what? Thanks to eight of your side, you did. And nothing changed. So, oh, does that mean, Mark, that this was all just politically motivated to get him across the finish line last Tuesday?
SPEAKER 1 :
100%.
SPEAKER 10 :
It proves it. 100%. This proves it. Eight of those, and I’m going to give them credit, because you’ve got to give credit where credit is due, but let’s acknowledge the reality here. What they said was, okay, we got our wins on Tuesday. Now it’s time to just, you know, fold the tent, cave, and they did cave. We’ll give the Republicans what they want. We’re not going to budge. You know, Republicans weren’t going to budge an inch on extending the Obamacare subsidies. Nope. Non-starter. You can’t give health care benefits to illegals anymore. Forget it. It’s over. And so, you know, we were right all along. They’re craving. They wanted people to hurt, to suffer. And people have been hurting. But that’s the point, right, Mark? Isn’t the cruelty the point?
SPEAKER 12 :
It’s what they wanted to exact. The people who think they’re going to win a shutdown. Well, it’s kind of funny because Republicans didn’t want people to hurt for that delicious three or four weeks where we thought we were winning the shutdown. We thought there were valuable lessons in the shutdown, but we wanted the Democrats to bend so that we could go ahead and reopen the government and learn those lessons that Obamacare is a Ponzi scheme and a whole lot of government is non-essential. Those are the lessons of the shutdown, but it didn’t mean that you wanted it or craved it or one of these people, especially the air traffic controllers, that military, for various people, the TSA folks to go without paychecks. But a lot of times people, like during Obama, when they were shutting down things for tourists, shutting down national parks, shutting down things that would make people, that would hurt their vacations, hurt their quality of life, it’s what they wanted to do to weaponize it.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, I’m so excited about the way things are going forward. And I’m also excited about a little bit of a tone change in Mark Davis. My buddy Mark Davis, I think, is shifting positions a little bit on the filibuster.
SPEAKER 12 :
Oh, 100%. But here’s the funny thing. I’m a pendulum. We’re all pendulum. Is pendulum pendulum? Pendulum. I’m a ping pong guy. For the longest time. The longest time. I said, what’s this 60? It’s arbitrary. That’s stupid. Fifty one for everything. Then I allowed myself and I hope this is part of my charm to entertain another side. And there were people who whom I really like, like like Rand Paul and various others whom I like 90 percent of the time who said, you know, be careful. Democrats are so treacherous. Their ideas are so bad that we will we’ll be glad we have the filibuster next time they have a majority. And this momentary frustration is not worth it. Okay, Democrats are indeed treacherous at times, are indeed sinister. Okay, and I began to tolerate the filibuster. And that lasted about a week. Then I thought, you know, does that feel strong? Does that feel confident? You know what feels strong and confident and Trump-like and MAGA-like and just, you know, makes you feel like you got the wind in your sails? Get rid of the filibuster. Pass the Trump agenda unapologetically. Watch the public love it.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, there’s an easy litmus test. It’s real simple. I watched Senator John Kennedy the other night on Laurie Ingram say that there is not a doubt in his mind that if the Democrats get into power. they’re going to nuke the filibuster. Anyway, they’ll do it anyway.
SPEAKER 01 :
Okay, all right.
SPEAKER 10 :
But then he went on to say, but I’m not really comfortable with nuking the filibuster. Wait a minute. And I love the guy. But wait a minute. If you think they’re going to nuke it anyway, then you’ve got to be first at it. You’ve got to do it now. And enact the legislation so that Trump can do a whole bunch of sweeping, broad legislative acts that bring prices down, that make things more affordable, which is what everything seems to be about these days, which is fine. And get this… No more mail-in ballots. No more machines. Strengthen election integrity. Get stuff done that you want to get done and watch them never win another election. That’s the way you have to do it. It doesn’t, you know, Hugh Hewitt and I got into a little tiff the other day because he said, oh, it’s political suicide. Terrible thing. What’s political suicide? Beating them to the punch? If you know they’re going to, Mark, help me understand that. Pretend to be Hugh Hewitt for a moment. Be an establishment Republican. And I say that with love. I don’t say that to put him down.
SPEAKER 12 :
I understand. I can channel these people sometimes.
SPEAKER 10 :
So if you channel this, you tell me if you know they’re going to nuke it anyway, how in the world do you argue against not nuking it now?
SPEAKER 12 :
The establishment Republican position on that is it’s too bold, it’s too spicy, it’s too risky, it’s too Trumpy, it’s too energetic, it’s too MAGA, and it’s just too strong. The establishment thing is go along to get along. John McCain, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan. Go along to get along two yards in a cloud of dust. And Trump is bombs away, baby.
SPEAKER 10 :
Let’s go. And see, I think you just nailed it. And you said it in your list there. I think these are folks that don’t want the Trump agenda to succeed. I hate to say it. I hate to be this cynical. But I wonder if they really are on board with the MAGA agenda. I don’t think they are, Mark. I don’t know how you can be on board and then say, well, you know, we don’t want to upset the apple cart too much. I know. No. We know they’re going to do it anyway when they get in power, but we shouldn’t be the ones to do it. No, it’s unseemly. Let’s let them roll us again. Let’s let them steamroll us one more time. No, I really just worry about it. But, you know, in the mood I’m in today and after the weekend I had, let me just share with you. You and I had the Eminem experience on stage in Grapevine a couple years ago. It was one of the greatest nights I’ve had in a long time. Saturday, hot. Hundreds of listeners to our Chicago affiliate at the Hyatt over in Itasca, Illinois. Gosh, it was so wonderful. I got to hang out with Scott Jennings. And incidentally, he’s as terrific a guy in person as he is in front of a camera or microphone.

He’s tremendous. And Dr. Ben Carson was there. And, of course, the local host, Sean Thompson, Dan Proft. But what a bunch of love in the room and a bunch of people who believe that our best times are ahead of us, that Trump is right on just about everything. They’re optimistic. They’re confident. They love what we do. A lot of Eminem experience fans in Chicago, Mark. And I just feel so great and so blessed to be able to do this every day and kick off my mornings with you at 735. Vinny.

And do you know what? I’m going to take our last 60 seconds. I’m going to make you feel even better because you talked about the courtroom victories, various victories, various vindications of Trump. Are you aware of the one that comes from across the pond out of the BBC? I am. In fact, I watched Brian Stelter’s coverage of it last night. Is he all right? Well, then the story is that the director general, Tim Davey, and CEO of BBC, Deborah Ternes, turned in their resignations after backlash about a documentary where they spliced Trump’s January 6th morning speech comments together to make it look like he was advocating violence. It was a damnable lie. A ton of people did it. It’s almost as if a talk show buddy of mine plays a cut all the time that contains the peacefully and patriotically, who is that guy? Oh, yeah, it’s Mike Gallagher. Well, they wanted no part of that. It was a fraudulent edit, and they got stung for it.
