Happy Friday. It is that day of the week. We have a lot of fun. We’ll do movie reviews and NFL picks, and we’ll have spy movies in hour number two, and Andy Pate’s with me. Good times. Always a joy. Up first, though, Hunter from Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning. Hunter, welcome. How are you, sir?

Doing well, enjoying this beautiful weather before it turns off cold again.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, and I was just thinking that I’m guessing because of all the cold weather we’ve had, you guys have been a little busy.
SPEAKER 20 :
Just a little bit, but that’s okay. Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, it is. That’s how it is. I mean, you know your world. That’s how things work, and you guys are prepared for that. So for those folks that are listening where maybe they’ve had a few issues here over the cold weather, things aren’t heating quite right, whatever the case may be, what are some tips and tricks you can help them with?
SPEAKER 20 :
Obviously, make sure you’re checking that filter. I know I say this just about every time, but especially lately with our furnaces running as long a run times as they do in these colder weather in this colder weather they could run. Multiple hours a day or both the day at that so just make sure that you’re staying on top of that filter with that furnace running a little bit more and stuff you’re obviously going to get more. That filter is going to get dirtier. As far as the rest of it goes, make sure with the snow and stuff we get, if you have condensing furnaces where the flues go outside the wall low, make sure that the snow is not blocking them or that you don’t have anything else in front of those. But yeah, those are the two main things that we’re seeing a lot of.
SPEAKER 03 :
Some things I have read of late, and I see differences of opinions on this, and I wanted to get this right from the horse’s mouth. When it gets a little cooler, what some people will – or, sorry, when it gets a little colder outside and they want to warm the inside of the house up is what I meant to say, a lot of folks will run around in the rooms that they don’t use as much. They will close those vents off, hoping that they’re going to then push more hot air into some of the areas that they are using. Is that a good idea or a bad idea?
SPEAKER 20 :
Not – It’s not a great idea to go around shutting all the vents. So that system is essentially designed based off of static pressures, how we get the air going to where we want it. Okay. That being said, all of those vents, that system is designed to run with all of those vents open. Okay. So essentially, your registers are a damper. Now, if you do have a colder room in the house and you have, say, a heat run in the basement where your basement’s unfinished and stuff like that, it is okay to shut a few registers to try to get that airflow a little better in a different room. But don’t go through shutting a whole bunch of registers on an entire floor or something. Ultimately, that’s just going to put a bigger strain on your furnace and can cause things like… high static pressure, and it can cause it basically to overheat and go out on high limits.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay. And, again, that was my question. And, again, you read some of these things, and you’re like, well, is that really true? Is that not true? I feel like you, and I know how some of these systems are supposed to be designed, and I understand that you might have a bathroom that’s always hot, and maybe you want to shut that register down just ever so slightly in the bathroom. Okay, great. Knock your socks off. But to your point, Hunter, don’t go around and shut off six or seven vents.
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah, like most things, the truth is usually in the middle.
SPEAKER 03 :
There you go. Okay, so right now, what do you guys like time-wise if somebody’s got a problem or they end up having a problem even as we head into this colder weekend and early next week, which our temperatures are still going to be. We’re still January, February, Hunter. We’re still in the middle of winter. Bottom line is people are still going to be running their furnaces for quite some time. If somebody has an issue, what’s your time schedule like right now?
SPEAKER 20 :
If it’s an emergency call, if you’re without heat, that is an emergency in our mind. So if your furnace is completely down, we will try our best to get to you within 24 hours because we do run into issues with the temperatures being as cold as they are right now. of pipes freezing and stuff like that.

And it’s in a very small plane, isn’t it? A very small cockpit. Well, you have an air marshal transporting a criminal informant back to Washington to testify for trial.

They’re up in Alaska. And, of course, they’ve got to get him down to where? Seattle. And then from there you can… A Biden relative?
SPEAKER 1 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 03 :
Sorry. Yeah, I’m sure it is.

Okay. Well, anyway, it’s just the air marshal, the criminal informant, and the pilot.

Well, Michelle Dockery, and remember her from Downton Abbey?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes, yes, yes.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay. Well, she stars as Madeline.
SPEAKER 03 :
Lady Mary.
SPEAKER 1 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
She stars as Madeline, the marshal. Does a fine job, too, by the way. Topher Grace, and he’s from Eric, that 70s show. I don’t know if you remember him.
SPEAKER 03 :
That one I never watched.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay, well, he is Winston, the informant. But most people want to see Mark Wahlberg, right? And he’s the pilot of this tiny plane. Well, Wahlberg plays Daryl. And before long, we realize he’s more than a pilot. Daryl is a hitman sent by a crime family to kill Winston before he sings for the authorities. Well, that makes sense. I mean… Mob guy, you know, the mob is going to go after an informant. They’re going to want to stop the informant from making it to their destination. And the fact that she could only get to him way up there means she can only take a little plane back. It’s a good opportunity. They’re going to take their shot. I thought that was good. Also, Daryl loves his work. And that’s a real problem. Daryl is a sicko. Okay. Daryl really likes to kill. So the mob basically sends him because he’s basically a human weapon. Wow. Yeah. Okay. All right. Well, when truth becomes known, Daryl subdues Madeline. This is very dangerous since they are flying over the frozen state of Alaska with all those Rockies, right? Not a great place to go down. Madeline also has some tricks up her sleeve, but there’s a problem. Daryl is the only pilot in the plane. You can’t just kill him. So imagine this. Even if you get control of the plane, the only guy who can fly the plane is the one who wants to kill the other two. So you’re in a real bad way. Somehow Madeline must regain control while making sure she can still fly, navigate, and land. Well, thus ensues a battle of the three with no allies between them. Each opposes the other two. And, of course, Daryl is just a very scary guy. Along the way, we learn of more dangerous influences. As Madeline, she’s got to decide who she can trust, who is dangerous. When you’re not a pilot and you’re trying to fly a plane over the Alaskan Rockies, and, you know, they kind of show you that also there’s wind whipping around, the wind shears and so forth up there. Well, you really need to trust the radio voice that’s guiding you. You really need to be able to trust them. So who can Madeline trust? And can anyone survive? Just how great is the flight risk? What do you think?
SPEAKER 03 :
Sounds good. I mean, previews look great.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, I think so. Well, what works in flight risk? First of all, this film is quick, John. It’s only an hour and a half, 90 minutes. Mel Gibson, he’s the director. He directs it with plenty of plot twists and intense moments. The viewers around me certainly didn’t sound bored. And there was a decent little crowd there Thursday night, right? A decent little crowd in there, and they seemed to have a very good time. Eternal good guy Mark Wahlberg clearly enjoyed being bad for once, right? Interesting angle for a hitman. He’s sick. He’s a human weapon. Instead of just being a professional… This is a guy who likes to do it. All right. Dockery brings some depth to her role. I was really impressed with her, John. It’s pretty formulaic. I’ll be honest. You’ve got an agent. She’s got a past, right? She’s made mistakes in the past. But Dockery pulled this off very well, though, bringing out all the emotions of her character that she goes through throughout this film. And she goes through a lot of them. I was very impressed with her. Topher Grace steals the show. Now, he’s somewhat, I don’t know, I’m going to say he shocked the movie with humor. He’s funny. He’s flat out funny. He was one of the funniest characters I’ve seen in the past year, and I did not expect that. I didn’t see that coming. You see the preview. It’s all action, right? Right. You don’t think there’s any comedy in this. Oh, yes, there is, and it’s him, and he’s good. The CGI action. Okay, it was cheesy. I’ll admit it’s cheesy, right? They didn’t put the kind of money into this that you might put into Star Wars. Let’s just say that. But it’s fun. The ending was good. And honestly, John, this is just a good little thriller. Now, what doesn’t work in flight risk? Well, it has the pieces, but they don’t always fit together. The humor, it feels a bit jarring. You know, we move from humor to serious to action. It just isn’t cohesive between them. It’s kind of like this is put in here, this is here, this is here, this is here. And it’s very jarring and not very cohesive. I don’t have a better way to put it. Have you ever just watched a movie where it doesn’t really flow?
SPEAKER 10 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 11 :
yeah well that’s kind of happening throughout much of the movie i would say and it’s almost like if you’re going to do this much humor early on keep it rolling or don’t do it pick one you didn’t know i guess really the movie didn’t know what it wants to be next again the background for madeleine was very formula as was the whiny informant and he was very whiny and you have that a lot in these movies right the informant is always some whiner and that’s why you can press them and get information because they’re a whiner And we’ve seen that too many times. Next, one villain toward the end looks too much like a villain. It was too easy to read. Made it too easy to know what was coming. And I think Mel, you know, kind of made that too easy. I’d like a little bit more mystery there. Okay. Now I’m just going to tell people right now, this is getting really negative reviews. And they seemed really exaggerated due to hate for the Trump supporting Mel Gibson. Mel Gibson is a Trump supporter.

And Wahlberg’s kind of conservative as well.
SPEAKER 11 :
Wahlberg leans right lightly. Lightly. He stays out of the political stuff.
SPEAKER 03 :
He doesn’t say much.
SPEAKER 11 :
Basically, he leans heavily into being patriotic.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. Correct. Which the left hates, too.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, the left hates that, too. But really, this is about Mel Gibson. I read a bunch of reviews just to get a feel for it, because this only got from Rotten Tomatoes 20%. Wow. Okay.

That means it’s a dog.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, it means it’s a disaster. And when I was in the I mean, the audience certainly did not see it that way. I didn’t either. I’ll get to that in a moment. The audience reviews were 66 percent over three times. Wow. The critics. Yeah, this is one of those things. And, you know, me, I’m going to shoot straight if it’s a conservative movie and I don’t think it’s good. Remember Homestead?

This was a tight little thriller. Okay. It was very funny. I haven’t laughed this… I haven’t enjoyed a character for humor this much in a long time. Okay. It had… It didn’t wear out its welcome. I like the plot twists. I really like Michelle Dockery in the lead. I thought everybody did a good job. It was very good.

Okay. For general audiences, I don’t think they’re all going to like it quite as much as Action Andy. So I’m going to give it a three. overall i think it’s yeah i think i think you would enjoy it okay this reminded me a lot of the beekeeper oh yeah great movie which i felt got silly toward the end but overall i thought good movie fun movie it was a great movie okay and what’s that one um from a couple years ago oh gerard Butler, he made a movie a couple years ago on Plane. Remember Plane? That one got panned by the critics. I thought that was a good movie. Good point. Good, solid movie. That’s what I think of this. Political 3, more religious 3, doesn’t say a thing. Do I recommend going to see Flight Risk? Folks, I do.

Yeah, and like I said, it’s only 90 minutes. You’re not going to be in there that long. It’s… 90 minutes of fun and intensity, and I enjoyed it.

You could also prove the critics wrong, if nothing else. I mean, literally, because these guys need to be put in their place at times. Come on, guys. Honestly. Right. Get your politics out of this.

I mean, now and then they would say some things where I’m like, yeah, I agree with that. That’s lacking in the movie. I agree. They were ripping the script to shreds. I thought the script was not cohesive at times, and I told you that. So it’s not a work of art. Well, it’s not meant to be. It’s a work of fun. Right. I don’t care. Okay, I’m having fun. The beekeeper was not a work of art with the script.

So it is going to. Yeah, if that’s a real promo.

Well, if she is, I like her and I like him.

And I agree with you. There’s some things in that movie they could have done to have made it a little bit more interesting, faster, whatever you want to say. Because especially the beginning is a little bit. Oh, yeah. You know, it’s like, okay, let’s go, guys. Move it along. This is an action movie. Get the action going.

Yeah. As you’ll remember, I recommended The Beekeeper. It was a good movie, though. Not with huge reviews, but with good, solid reviews. But I went against the critics on that. I think most people agreed with me. I think they’ll agree this time.

It was a nice revenge movie.

Okay, well, Phoebe Dynavor, she stars as Maya, a young woman with a challenging life. Now, Maya’s been caring for her mother, who is dying. This takes all her time and energy, so when Mom finally passes on, Maya goes on a fun binge of shoplifting, drinking, and sex. But at the funeral afterward, Maya and her sister, Jess, well, they’re shocked to see someone they haven’t seen in years. Their father, Sam. He’s played by Reece Iphans. Have you seen him? He’s actually been in quite a bunch. What’s his name again? Reece. R-H-Y-S.

Yeah, I know who you’re talking about.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes. Well, he wants to reconnect. Sam also has a job proposal for Maya. It seems he’s a real estate broker and his clients are largely wealthy foreigners. So Sam wants Maya to travel the world sealing deals. The whole thing sounds pretty shady, right? But Maya could use the money and she also wants to at least try having a relationship with her dad. Setting aside Jess’s concerns, Maya agrees. Well, soon Maya realizes Sam handles real estate the same way, and sorry for adding politics in here, but I have to, in the same way Hunter Biden handles art. Gotcha. For money laundering, okay? And Sam insists it’s for good causes, but who knows, right? Well, then things get crazy as Sam is kidnapped, and Maya is told she must retrieve a hard drive with important data on it or Sam will be killed. This sets Maya on a global race against time, eluding criminals and cops alike to save a father she only recently got back. Fortunately, Maya’s a survivor. She’s smart. But the question is, just how shady is dear old dad? Can Maya survive dangerous car chases while unlocking the mystery? And just what is her inheritance? That’s the story of Inheritance. What do you think?

Story sounds good. Is it a good movie is the question.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, here we go. What works in Inheritance? Well, first of all, much or all of the movie is filmed with cell phones, giving it that guerrilla footage look. I just want to let you know that. You ever seen those that are filmed pretty much with cell phones? So a little bit of shakiness, and it’s also you’re up close a lot. Next, there’s an inventive car chase scene that’s actually a motorcycle chase scene, and it’s very inventive. You feel the tightness and the speed because this is all being filmed filmed from a phone that’s mounted on the bike so you’re up close and you’re looking just ahead and just behind and threading through all these people trying to get away from all these cars this was easily the best part of the movie it was about 10 minutes long well done okay the next thing that works in this movie is this absolutely nothing john Oh, my gosh.
SPEAKER 03 :
That bad, huh?
SPEAKER 11 :
That bad. Here we go. What doesn’t work in Inheritance? First of all, for a spy movie, this is one of the least spy movies I’ve ever seen. The trailer made this sound more exciting. It made it sound like a spy movie. They keep saying, well, you’re a spy. This is a spy. This is spying. She does virtually no spying. This is mainly just trying to track down info and track down Dad and see what he’s all about. There’s very little spying in this movie. The handheld camera work produces an annoying cheap feel with an incredible number of close-ups. This was something. It seemed like much of the time, half the screen was her face. Seriously. And don’t get me wrong, Phoebe Dynavor is very pretty.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, that would get annoying.
SPEAKER 11 :
But all these young actresses are pretty. Who cares? My gosh. This girl in real life must really like herself. But then again, she didn’t direct it, so who knows. This film had more walking around than The Blair Witch Project. I’m serious. Forrest Gump didn’t run this far. He didn’t log this many miles. We see her walking around, walking around, going through customs, going through the airport, walking through here, walking through this shop, checking this, walking here, walking there. With maybe 40 minutes of story and 140, I mean 120 minutes of movie. No, no, no. In about 100 minutes of movie. Okay. Sorry. It was not as long as I thought it felt that long. How’s that? About 40 minutes of story. About 100 minutes of movie. I mean, it was, I swear, I spent an hour watching this woman in super close-up walking around. We watched Maya get her cardio. There’s nothing interesting about the cops or the bad guys at all. Nothing at all. They’re just stereotypes. In fact, John, there’s nothing interesting about any side characters or even Maya herself. We care about her situation, of course, but she’s one of the least interesting main characters I’ve ever seen. I didn’t care. I didn’t care about her. I didn’t care about her friends. Didn’t care about dear old dad. Didn’t care about the cops, the bad guys, anybody. Didn’t care. Reese Ifans, who’s an Irish actor, he tries to nail the American accent, sort of falls short. I’m not saying he does his role poorly. He does it quite well because he’s actually a terrific actor. What a waste. Okay. John, I don’t even know if art film lovers have the patience for this dog.
SPEAKER 03 :
Is that bad?
SPEAKER 11 :
It is slow. I mean, slow, slow, slow.
SPEAKER 03 :
Spy movies are supposed to be fast.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, move it along, man. Bring the intrigue. You did have some plot twists. Don’t get me wrong. You just don’t care. Because you’re being bored.
SPEAKER 03 :
Because you’re yawning the whole time.
SPEAKER 11 :
You’re yawning throughout them. Okay, Rotten Tomatoes, they did not like this movie, but they gave it 46%, which is 26% more than they gave Flight Risk. No. No! I’m going to say this out loud to Hollywood and to all the reviewers. No! You’ve got to be kidding. You gave this more than twice the rating that you gave Flight Risk? This dog? Yeah. This travelogue?

It shows you the politics involved. This is why I always tell you the political score. Why? So I can pull it out of the quality score, right?

Ick! This is awful quality. I’m going to say one star for general audiences because they’re probably more patient than me. But for me, it was a half star. This was awful. I’m going to give it one star just because I like Recyphens. And… There you go. Barely one star. Political three, more religious three. Well, more religious. Let’s say two and a half.

Okay. It’s a little icky right at the beginning, but who cares? This is so bad, I didn’t care.

You’re going to see it anyways.

No. No. Folks, do not go see Inheritance. Don’t do this to yourself. Love yourself.

This is one of those that you don’t even rent.

You will never get it back. You will never get it back. I mean, it is awful. Inheritance is a dog. It is worthless. Once again, it blows my mind, first of all, that these arty critics gave it 46%, which is not good, but still. At least they’re saying it’s tolerable. No, it isn’t. It’s incredibly boring.

So this is a movie that I’m guessing will have a hard time recovering its cost.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, there’s very little cost.

Because of the way they filmed it and such. Right. Got it.

So it’s very low cost. So at least they got that going for it. I don’t know if the art crowd will boost it enough to where it breaks even. I don’t think so.

By then, we’ll have a first full week of, you know, Trump in office. But so far, so good. There’s a lot of things he’s already done. I think there’s folks out there, Andy, wishing he would do more. But realistically, what he’s done already in about four days’ time, I mean, I guess you could say five because he did some things Monday night. But, yeah, I mean, I don’t know anybody out there in their right mind that should be complaining.

No, it’s fantastic. And he is really racking up the PR victories, too, with them being able to show, look at the criminals we’re getting out of here.

And some of the video, if some of you out there listening haven’t seen it, there is some great video that some news stations even put together where, you know, they show up at the 5 a.m. raids on, you know, what they know to be very violent criminal illegals that are here. And they’re rounding these folks up. Well, did you see the guy from Haiti? What a jerk. Wow.

But, I mean, everybody, all the Republicans want to just play what he said over and over and over. Because it’s like an ad for the Republican Party. It’s incredible.

I mean, I’ll be careful how I say this, but I think in some cases, shipping these guys home is too good. Yes. I mean, dead serious.

Yeah. I mean, some of them deserve worse. Much worse.

I wonder what happens in those cases. I mean, if somebody deserves to die… Do you ship them out anyway? You know what, John? With the current American legal system, you might as well.

Yeah. He’s making very clear – look. I am representing America. It’s been very interesting for the last four years, and this is what we had for eight years with Obama.

The apology tour.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, the apology tour, but here’s what we had. In all our negotiations with every country around the world, what we had with Obama and then Biden was both sides were on the same side of the table. Obama cared nothing about America. Biden absolutely was – at least Obama wasn’t owned by foreign interests.
SPEAKER 03 :
I was going to say, Biden was more worried about the pay under the table.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. All Biden cared about is who owns me and what do I get. Obama is simply a zealot who obviously does not like America. Hated America and wanted to apologize for it. And it was really painful to watch for those 12 years, watch our side basically negotiate for the other side. I mean, it must have been really incredible. And you’ve got so many countries around the world who are just like, this is really incredible. America’s leaders are literally giving us America. And now there was a clip from some leaders at Davos afterwards who made it very clear, we lost this election over there. We’ve lost. We lost.
SPEAKER 03 :
Which, good.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, but why is this your election? Right. You lost. Why? Because you lost somebody who was giving you everything. Right. They were giving America away.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. Good. I’m glad it ended.
SPEAKER 11 :
You know, and I understand some people get really angry with all the talk of tariffs and so forth. And I understand if you actually did put in all these tariffs, yes, inflation would be a problem, a big problem. But it’s negotiating. And, John, if we took out all the tariff talk, if he wasn’t doing that… You’d have no leverage. What leverage would we have?
SPEAKER 03 :
You wouldn’t have any, Andy. Right. You have to do that.
SPEAKER 11 :
Our only leverage around the world is the American consumer and say, look, if you want to get to the American consumer to buy your products…
SPEAKER 03 :
pony up called the almighty dollar and yeah or give us lower your tariffs on which is happening as well in some cases or commit to buy a bunch of our products do whatever but it’s got to be better india is already doing some of that yes as we speak we talked about some of this this past week all right other things too that are really quick in the news before we go to break which i i don’t know how you’d even verify some of this but i’ve seen some things on social media i take it with a grain of salt because who knows if it’s real or not but supposedly Vladimir Putin wants Fauci in Russia to answer for crimes against humanity because of some of the things that he did. I have no idea, folks, if that’s real or not.
SPEAKER 11 :
That seems like an Internet kind of spoof.
SPEAKER 03 :
I highly, highly doubt that’s true, although what’s interesting, today Trump ended his protection that we as taxpayers pay for, and if he wants it, he’s got to pay on his own.
SPEAKER 11 :
You know what actually worries me? I do like it. I think the man’s a mass murderer. I think he’s terrible.
SPEAKER 03 :
And why should we protect him on our dime?
SPEAKER 11 :
Right, but think about this. You’ve got people like me saying he’s a mass murderer. You’ve got people like Trump saying he was a terrible problem. And then he removes his protection. What if something happens to Fauci? It could look really bad. I don’t know. I get a little concerned about it just from that angle.
SPEAKER 03 :
On the same token, I think what Trump said is if you want protection, you hire your own. We as taxpayers are not doing this anymore.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, yeah, you’re a multimillionaire who made unbelievable sums of money.
SPEAKER 03 :
Out the backs of us, so go hire your own.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, hire your own. Absolutely. He doesn’t deserve state-sponsored protection. Absolutely not.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, the only protection he deserves state-sponsored is behind bars, Andy.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, you know me. I’m always, though, thinking, how will the Democrats use it?
SPEAKER 03 :
I know. Again, if he gets his own protection and so on, who knows? Would I have done it? Yes. Yeah, because that’s money wasted. Probably the best way to look at that. We’ve got other things we need to be worrying about as a country that need taking care of, and his protection is not one of them.

Correct. He can do it on his own. He made that money, by the way, on the backs of taxpayers.
