You don’t like all defense? Whatever that thing was.

Andy, I don’t mind defense, to be honest with you. I really don’t. Right. It was… that was just like, no, everyone’s comparing the Seattle defense to the, you know, 85 bears and even the 2013 Seahawks and my 2015 Broncos. And it wasn’t that, you know what I mean? Like that, that was just kind of a good defense, which I think they’re talented beating up on a not very good team, which you call.
SPEAKER 15 :
I did. I called it, you know, you know what? I saw two things in this Richard. First of all, I think Seattle watched the tape of Denver, uh, Because Seattle came after New England just like Denver did. There was no holding back. Just pin back your ears and go forward. And they did the same thing. Secondly, here’s what I really got a feeling of after watching the Super Bowl. I think that the two NFC teams were just a year ahead in development of the two AFC teams. Okay, and that actually bodes very well for the AFC next year because you catch up. You don’t stay a year behind. You catch up the next year. I think that New England and Denver especially, and a couple others, by the way, in the AFC are coming up fast.
SPEAKER 14 :
Andy, I’m with you. The only thing that concerns me… You and Walt and I were talking about this because Drake is Walt’s guy, right? He really liked him coming out. Yes, he was his man, Cash. He was. That was a concerning performance. And I’m not saying that that’s who Drake May is because I think a lot of factors played into it. But, Andy, that is the type of performance that, you know, I’ll be honest, look at what happened to Cam Newton after the Broncos got to him in 2015. He was never the same player after that. And I’m not saying they’re going to be the exact same, but you rattle a quarterback the way that Seattle did, and I don’t know if you saw some of the behind-the-scenes footage that NFL Films put out, and man, Drake May was just You know what, Andy?
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, you know what, Richard, and this is a big thing that Seattle had in common with Denver. It wasn’t just the front four that was getting to him. It was the secondary that was blanketing his targets. He had nowhere to go with the ball, and he was getting clobbered. He was in hell, okay? What happened to him, for anybody who lives a bad life, you’re going to go to hell and spend eternity there. living Drake Mays experience for those three hours. Okay. I mean, it was absolutely horrible, but I don’t think it’ll be that way because he’s on a much better young team than, you know, Cam was on. Although Cam made a great commercial with that kid.
SPEAKER 14 :
Just loosening up my arm. He did, yes. Well, I mean, who knew it was going to be as soon as it was. But, yeah, that was my – it just – it wasn’t a good game. I know we kind of talked about it beforehand, right? We talked about it last Friday. One team will fall apart. It was not – Yes, one team would fall apart. There wasn’t much hype for this. There wasn’t much excitement. The storylines weren’t that great. And it kind of came out that way, right? I mean, I know Seattle fans are happy and all that, which is fine. But honestly, they kind of did what they were supposed to do. I think a healthy Bo Nix. A healthy Bo Nix against Seattle would have been a really interesting performance, Andy. I don’t think so.
SPEAKER 15 :
I think he would have gotten killed. And the reason is they’re a year ahead in development. And I don’t think his offensive line, I don’t think his running game would have protected him well at all. I don’t think you guys have a good enough running game this year. Okay, next year is going to be way different. I think Denver is on the come, baby. But I think Knicks would have gotten clobbered by that defense.
SPEAKER 14 :
The only thing about Andy is J.K. Dobbins, who was our best running back all year, running the ball. he was slated to come back in the Super Bowl. And so I think it would have been interesting. It would have made it more interesting. I’m not saying the results would have been any different. Well, I will say this. I just don’t think it would have been the blowout that it was in the shutdown. But like you say, Seattle’s defense is really good. They have a lot of really good pieces. But can we say, Andy, because obviously, and this is not taking away anything from Sam Darnold, but Sam Darnold is Sam Darnold still, right? He’s not any more or less than we anticipated?
SPEAKER 15 :
You’re right. Sam Darnold was exactly what you predicted, Richard. He was a game manager who went in and struggled. And he did. They didn’t win because of him. They won because of their defense and their running back. Okay, that’s why they won the game. Sam Darnold was nothing special at all.
SPEAKER 14 :
Totally agree. I wholeheartedly agree with you, Andy, and it was an interesting… Well, it was an interesting… All right, on to the more important things. I know we got our songs to get to, but I have a question for you.

Because we talked about it on Monday. I know you’re obviously movies, but I know that you watch the entertainment piece of it. Was there any ad that stuck out to you in a really positive way that maybe the rest of us didn’t think about?

Oh, wow. You know, it was all kind of a blur. Not really. I was so bored with the game, Richard, that I kind of was checking out. Was there anything that jumped out to you?
SPEAKER 14 :
We kind of talked about it on Monday. I’m with you, Andy. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to watch as many of the commercials live as I would have liked. I would tell my dad. I liked the prostate cancer one, the tight end commercial with Gronkowski and Kittle and Tony Gonzalez. I don’t know if you caught that one. I thought it was pretty funny. Um, and then it was, okay, I guess, I guess on the same note, was there anything that stuck out to you in the negative way? Was there anything that was just so terrible? You were like, that was awful. I have no idea why they aired that.
SPEAKER 15 :
I’m just going to be honest. I have been so disappointed with the ads the last few years in the Super Bowl. They’ve been so unfunny, relentlessly. I kind of check out at ad time. I do. And I know that’s unforgivable for a guy who, you know, I know I review movies. It’s unforgivable. But they’ve let me down so many times, man. It’s been awful. They haven’t made me laugh since, I don’t know, Peyton and his brother did one.
SPEAKER 14 :
I went to you anyway. It’s funny because we were talking about how there was actually a lot of movie ads. And I didn’t honestly nothing kind of stuck out to me that was that exciting come coming up, which I know you and I’ve talked about a little bit that there’s just not a whole lot in the pipeline right now. It doesn’t seem.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, Mandalorian and Grogu, that doesn’t look that exciting. I don’t know. Honestly, although the year has actually started out with a pretty good slate of movies so far, it’s been surprising. But I don’t know. This summer doesn’t look great. We’ll see.
SPEAKER 14 :
Why Andy? Okay. And I know we got to address it. Why is that? What, what is, I know we’ve kind of talked about Hollywood’s fallen off, whatever, but like the Superbowl was like the time where you kind of really get people judged. I know you follow when movies come out, but a lot of people don’t know a movie’s coming out until two weeks later. you know, in advance when they really start ramping up the marketing or even three weeks or four weeks. Yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
I’ll tell you, I think you’re going to agree with this. And I think John, you will too. I think the biggest thing lacking right now in Hollywood is not the great special effects. It’s not the directing, although that’s a little off. It is two things. Number one, they have no editing. They’re like, they’re making movies that are too long, which is great. If that’s Braveheart and everything in it is good. Okay. Or saving private Ryan, they are making too long movies, but here’s the big thing. They’re not funny. Yeah. They are really, really hurting for good comedic writers in Hollywood. They can’t write funny. They don’t write jokes very well anymore. It’s I mean, seriously, how many and look at it this way. We’re going to be doing love songs here today, Richard. How many good romantic comedies have you seen in the last five years? Think about this for a moment. There was a time during the 90s and early 2000s when there were great romantic comedies coming out all the time. Fifty First Dates and all these. There were so many. Right now. Yeah. I mean, when’s the last time you saw a great romantic comedy? I’m sure you’ve seen one. But how many in the last five years? Think about that.
SPEAKER 14 :
You know, I was just saying, actually, the one with with Sidney Sweeney and Glenn Powell, I think is probably the best one of late. And let’s be honest, that wasn’t wasn’t anything to. Yeah, it wasn’t anything to, you know, but it was better than most, which is saying something. Right, right. You are correct. It’s unfortunate. And we’ve been talking about it.
SPEAKER 15 :
Richard, you would really quick before you run on from that. If you make that movie in the 90s, it goes nowhere because it’s surrounded by a lot of better ones made by Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. See what I’m saying?
SPEAKER 14 :
But so, okay, Andy, is it just the writing and the jokes, or is there some actor, actresses that aren’t buying into it, or is that it?
SPEAKER 15 :
My personal, okay, I’ll just give you, I’ll give you my opinion, you give me yours. My opinion is it is more the writing than the acting. I think the acting is still, you’ve got some very interesting, talented, young comedic actors who can do it, but the writing sucks.
SPEAKER 14 :
I guess I can’t disagree with you. I think it’s kind of a combination, but you’re correct. He’s kind of fallen off, but I’m going to go back to Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock and their proposal, right? Sandra Bullock, she’s got a pretty wide spectrum that she can perform. Ryan Reynolds kind of has his area, but I just don’t view a lot of these I don’t know. I don’t view a lot of these actors and actresses that are willing to kind of explore their depth. I’ll be honest, I guess Sidney Sweeney’s maybe one that is. I mean, she goes from, you know, that, you know, rom-com to The Housemaid to, you know, whatever else. I guess that’s a pretty wide spectrum, and no offense if that’s what we’ve got to work with. I don’t know where we’re going to be going. I don’t know.
SPEAKER 15 :
I think, look, I’ll say this. We need a year where we have like five or six really good romantic comedies to come out. We do. We’ve got to get, Hollywood’s got to become fun again. Okay? Not just bad Marvel movies. This is getting ridiculous. They’ve got to become fun again. They’re not. And I really hope they are. I am seeing some good action movies here and there. I saw one today. But, you know, we need more. We need more fun. We need more fun, Hollywood. Less preaching, more fun.
SPEAKER 14 :
and i think you hit the nail on the head right which is less preaching more yeah more fun more excitement and like you say some of the ads you’re kind of back to the super bowl conversation right we’ve lost some of that humor that really did well right it wasn’t even edgy i mean some of the ads that we were talking about last week aren’t even that edgy but you know it was like the most interesting man in the world and it was the old spice guy and and even the coors light commercials but like And I know, you know, kind of the, all the rage, right. As you’re kind of going back to what’s working and some people, some people would say, well, that’s, that’s happening too much in the mainstream, right. As a lot of these brands are going, well, you know what, it worked. And I guess, honestly, for the time being, Andy, even if it’s for two years, why don’t we just go back to what works? We don’t have to reinvent the wheel here. You know, like you said, you know, where’s the good Marvel movie to really bring, bring, you know, watchers at movie watchers back out to the, to the big screen.
SPEAKER 15 :
Richard, I don’t think these writers today are a bunch of young, bitter liberals, and they don’t respect what worked before. They look at Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in a movie back then, and they look at that and say, oh, that’s way too tame. That’s boring. That’s not good enough. That’s not giving the message, baby. And they don’t respect what the market likes. They don’t respect the market. If you don’t like your market, you can’t entertain your market. Go ahead.

no totally agree with you but then okay let’s bring back spielberg let’s bring back you know i guess i the odyssey i’m kind of intrigued about and that’s um is that not ridley is that ridley scott or i think so that one you know and that could be great or it could be too long we’ll see but it could be great it looks cool and that’s the thing i think it has so much potential right you got matt damon and lots of other things it looks like trying with you and It does look like a great movie. A little bit long, but a great movie. And I’m with you. I guess I’m going to complain and I’ll get off my soapbox. I know we can continue on. But bring back the old guys that know what they’re doing, right? You know, Bruckheimer does, I don’t even know who he did at that point, but he did Top Gun Matt. All right, guys, I know you’re long in the tooth. You may command a pretty penny. But let’s start bringing back, because Andy, and I know this kind of is the downtime for movies, although Valentine’s Day I know kind of pops up I want to get excited to go to the movie. I want to get excited to watch the Super Bowl commercials, and I’m with you. I feel like it was a little bit better this year, but it just is not what it could be, and it’s really disappointing.

And, and Lori Long Fritz Chapman wrote the book alone at dawn about John’s story and how he should have probably been awarded two medals of honor. Well, the two books are 18 Halls to Retirement, which is about a younger person and an older person who work at the same company they’re playing golf. And the book talks a lot about the younger person asking the older person about all of his preparation he’s made for his retirement. My second book is The Christian Path to Retirement. It’s sort of about how God can guide us toward building our nest egg and also helping build his kingdom as we make that transition from work to retirement.
