SPEAKER 10 :
Welcome to Sportsman of Colorado, Colorado’s premier outdoor radio show heard every Saturday afternoon on KLZ 560 with insights on hunting, fishing, archery, guns, and ammo from Colorado’s top outfitters featuring the industry’s leading experts on how to enhance your experience in the great outdoors. Now, here’s your host, Scott Watley.
SPEAKER 05 :
Good afternoon and welcome to Sportsman of Colorado. Thank you so much for being with us. Hey, kind of a special show for us, needless to say, the last show of the year. But we are wrapping up year number 13. This is show number 676. And I’ll be quite honest with you. When I turned to my wife in November of 2012 and said, I’m going to start an outdoor hunting show, she looked at me like I was crazy. So… I’ll have to thank her more throughout the show for letting me go with this. But, hey, it’s been fun. And I want to just say, hey, I appreciate all of our listeners. And it has been a fun, fun journey. And we’re not going anywhere. We’re back for 2026. We’ve got a lot of great things planned. One of the folks that helped us do this tremendously is my first guest today. And I really wanted to get him on. I’m glad he could join. Have the time, busy time for him, but that’s Dan Johnson, general manager of Lynn Lyle Chevrolet. Drive east and pay the lease. Dan Johnson, how are you? I’m good, Scott.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, congratulations. I didn’t know the number was that big.
SPEAKER 05 :
Man, I didn’t either until I put a calculator to it, and I was like, wow. Something’s worked.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, I know, and it’s hard to believe I’ve been here over 20 years, too.
SPEAKER 05 :
That was my next question to you, because, dude, we’ve been doing business just about that long together. Yeah. I mean, it has been crazy. Yeah, so… Man, a lot of water under the bridge, huh, how business has changed. And you look at our end of media and social media and all the different things like that. You look at the car business. I mean, usually the papers were filled with 40, 50, 60 pages of car ads. I mean, everything’s changed so much.
SPEAKER 09 :
Everything’s changed. It’s crazy. And the vehicles themselves have changed. It’s just so much electronics. They don’t even do— owner’s manuals anymore it’s all kind of in the in the dash of your car i mean it’s crazy things have changed brochures yeah there’s no more brochures you know go online oh yeah y’all used to have all those color catalogs and that had to cost a lot of money on every model yeah that There are no more of those. If you want to look something up, Google it.
SPEAKER 05 :
You know, most of the time I’m driving my vehicle, as you know, way too much. But Kevin Flesch and I took a quick trip down to Texas for some hog hunting last week, and I let Kevin drive a little while. And, man, he’s like, man, this truck rides awesome. Oh, there’s nothing better. I told him. I said, dude, I’ve been – But it did great and got almost 30 miles to the gallon with my High Country Silverado 1500 diesel. So, man, I tell you, it was awesome. I mean, I drove from, let me think, I don’t want to tell you wrong, San Angelo, I think, to about 20 miles other side of Castle Rock on one tank. Yeah, what is that, 600 miles? Yeah, it was crazy. I was like, man. As Victoria goes, I’ve got to stop every 30 miles for a gas station. But anyway, that’s another story. That’s the way my life is, too.
SPEAKER 09 :
It doesn’t matter what the range is.
SPEAKER 05 :
I stop at every 30 miles. Well, hey, this is the time. Few days left to grab a vehicle. Tell us what’s going on. Well, we got lots going on.
SPEAKER 09 :
We got lots of zero percent on most models, which is wonderful. And, you know, for those business people out there and, you know, one of our friends just did it because of tax reasons. I mean, he said he got 100 percent write off if you buy something before the end of the year. that is 6,000-pound GBW or greater, which Silverado, Tahoe, even Colorado fits into that category. And, you know, he bought a new Tahoe, our friend at Lakewood Plumbing. And, you know, he said the only reason I did it is for the tax thing. So it’s worth looking at. I’m certainly no accountant, but, you know, I’ve had several people do it and say, you know, my accountant says, You’re crazy not to do it.
SPEAKER 05 :
No doubt.
SPEAKER 09 :
That may not be there in 2026. Yeah, no doubt. Something to think about.
SPEAKER 05 :
For sure. And I’ll tell you, Dan’s got a great selection. And if you don’t see something you like, he can order it. You know, still get some great deals on doing things like that. And, Dan, it’s nice to say we’ve got some decent interest rates besides the 0%. 0% is really good, but, of course, that’s not on all models. But you’ve still got super good rates on others.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, yeah, they’ve come down quite a bit in the last year. I mean, I think I got credit unions in the fours, which is, you know, I do business with, I don’t know, 20, 30 credit unions, all the major banks. And, yeah, they’re all competing for it. You know, they want to do loans. So, you know, it’s you know, credit challenged a little bit or had a hiccup along the way, you know, that’s no problem right now. You know, the banks are aggressive and, you know, we can usually get it done at a good interest rate and a good payment. And I got a gentleman here right now that we’re lowering his payment. You know, he’s just going, you know, gosh, I’m paying, you know, 550 a month and I, you know, kind of on a fixed income and I need to lower my payment. So, You know, we got him a good interest rate, and we lowered his payment about $150. So he’s happy, and he’s going to drive out a new Lynn Lyle Chevrolet.
SPEAKER 05 :
Wow, that’s great. Again, Dan Johnson is our guest, Lynn Lyle Chevrolet. Right off East Colfax there in 225. And, hey, Dan, I know we haven’t had much moisture on the ground, but I think it’s coming. And so I just want to mention to people, your service department, tires. And I know recently on your tire deal, and I told you, Victoria, I was putting some tires on her Lexus. And so she ran by Discount Fishing Tackle. That’s my next guest. Discount Tire. And I’ll say their name. Hey, they advertise. So, hey. And anyway, everybody thinks, oh, they’re the best discount. That’s the name. It’s got to be the best deal. But anyway, your deal was like, I want to say, I can’t remember, Nick, $170, $190 with your promotion that you had going on. You know, of course, I wouldn’t have gone anywhere. else anyway but what i’m saying is you got good prices now i just want to get people hey the days of the dealer costing more for service and and you know different things like tires and and things like that are over in la chevrolet at least yeah that’s absolutely true i mean we have a price match guarantee if somebody did go to discount or sam’s or wherever you know and they get a price or even an online price you know
SPEAKER 09 :
The worst we’ll do is match it. You know, and like what happened in your case, you know, we beat it by quite a bit. Yeah. You know, that’s like a whole tire.
SPEAKER 05 :
No doubt. Yeah. Exactly. Hey, I do have in studio, and I just got a couple minutes here, and I know you probably do too, but Wayne Eubank is with us, Colorado Outdoor Sports, going to be talking about his things. But I sent Wayne to you, you know, a few years back now, and Wayne just wanted to do a quick testimonial for Lynn Lyle. I’ve got two trucks because of Scott through Dan.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, it’s good to talk to you. Thank you. We appreciate your business, and hopefully you’ve been happy with the experience.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s actually incorrect, because my wife has your truck also. Oh, so that’s three. Yeah. All right. She’s got that great big one-ton. Oh, that’s true. Dan talked her into it. He didn’t have any three-quarters at the time, and he said, it’s just a three-quarter ton with a bigger set of brakes. And I said, I can’t go wrong there.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, you know, I think you need to get four.
SPEAKER 05 :
Me too. Hey, I’ll be working on him here. I got about 50 more minutes here. You may see us after the show. All right. Yeah, but, hey, folks, seriously, if you are looking for a fun place to do business, no stress, no worry, I will tell you this. If you find a vehicle, and I can tell you, and it’s really close to 20 years, if you can find a vehicle, I will assure you I’ve never had anybody walk out for price, never, in almost 20 years of doing business with Dan. If you find a vehicle, everybody’s fair-minded. You’ve got to trade, whatever, and I always use that term. Everybody’s just fair-minded. You realize, hey, Dan’s got to make a little money. He’s got bills to pay there at the store. But they will take great care of you, and they’re there for after the sale as well. So if you’re looking for pre-owned, new, now’s the time, a few days left in the year, there can be some great tax advantages. Get with your accountant for that. But now’s the time to stop by Lynn Lyle Chevrolet. So, Dan, man, I appreciate it. Thank you for helping us do this show all these years. We appreciate it very, very much, sir.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, and I appreciate it, too. And Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all your listeners.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right. Same to you, sir. All right, bud. That’s Dan Johnson, general manager of Lynn Lyle Chevrolet. All right. Don’t want to waste any time. Another gentleman that I walked in and said, hey, we’re starting a show. I don’t know what’s going to happen with it. Now 13 years. This gentleman’s been kind enough to be on the show, not as much as I wish, and that’s really me and scheduling in 2026. We’re going to try to make different, but glad to welcome to the airwaves here, Austin Parr, Discount Fishing Tackle. Austin, how are you, sir?
SPEAKER 16 :
I’m doing great, Scott. Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER 05 :
You bet. I was just telling Dan we started this show. I didn’t really realize it today as we were wrapping up a year. I just thought, okay, how many shows have we done? Well, this is our 676th show for 13 years. Man, you were right there at the beginning. It’s hard to believe it’s been 13 years, man.
SPEAKER 16 :
I know. That’s wild to think about, but, you know, only getting better.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, I hope so. I hope so for sure. Hey, I want to get you on for several reasons. Number one, I saw an ad. on social media. You’ve got a big sale going on, so let’s tell us about that at Discount Fishing Tackle.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, so we’ve got a bunch of good ice fishing stuff on sale right now, all kinds of different huts and some various shelters going on. Obviously, we don’t have a crazy amount of ice at the moment. We’ve got to be safe out there, but we’ve got some of those guys going as well as some really nice deals on a variety of waders and even some brand name stuff like Fish Pond. We’ve got a variety of of different nets that are available from those guys which rarely go on sale. So we’re kind of excited about that as well.
SPEAKER 05 :
Awesome. And I tell you, it’s been an eventful few years here with all the battles we’ve been facing from the hunting side, the fishing side, the fur ban, and that’s on its return, I think we’ve heard, coming back. So it has been a challenging couple of years from a lot of different standpoints, hasn’t it?
SPEAKER 16 :
Oh, yeah. I mean, and I don’t think it’s going to – going to really end, unfortunately. And, you know, we’ve seen conventional fishing pretty much square in the crosshairs, you know, over the last commission cycle there. And like you mentioned, we’re right back up against a fur ban for the fly fishing and fly tying world. So we’ll see what continues to happen. But, you know, I implore folks to, you know, really take the the thought process of the it’s not just uh hunting that’s under attack anymore it’s all of what they call consumptive use whether you’re a catch and release angler or not um you know all of hunting and fishing at this point is is in danger and something i’m going to continue to continue to battle personally and hopefully we can can get more and more allies in the fight against that
SPEAKER 05 :
Yep, absolutely. Again, Austin Parr is with us. It’s Discount Fishing Tackle, 2645 South Santa Fe. Now, several things coming up here. We’ve got the Denver International Sportsman’s Expo, January the 8th through the 11th, and Austin, you’re going to be doing some seminars there, so tell us your topics.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, I’ll be there on Saturday and Sunday, and I’ll be doing a variety of different things. So to start with, in the experts corner, it’s a nice, more intimate setting where it’s kind of a question-and-answer type of presentation rather than a directive PowerPoint style. But I’ll be having my Lowrance electronics with me, and we’ll be there asking or having folks ask questions on everything from forward-facing sonar, all of your options on GPS, as well as down imaging and side imaging. So anything Lowrance-related, we’ll be doing that during the Experts Corner. But then on the main stage, On Saturday, I’ll have presentations talking about how to target walleyes and wipers in the summertime. A lot of our eastern plains lakes and lakes into Kansas and Nebraska have a lot of good wipers and walleyes both, so it’s a great opportunity to get a good multi-species outing and some stuff that I really enjoy there. And then I’ll also be discussing how to get kids into hunting and fishing on the Family Day presentation for Sunday. So we’ll be talking about all sorts of different types of hunting and fishing. A lot of times I’ll be discussing primarily bird hunting and dove hunting and pheasants and all kinds of good stuff with that, but then also taking that back into the fishing realm as well. So I’m excited to hopefully get some more young anglers and hunters out there into the field and on the water and hopefully sparking some passion like I’ve had for all these years as well.
SPEAKER 05 :
Boy, no doubt. You know, and I mean, on a personal level, of course, we’re friends outside of business, but man, watching your family grow up and seeing your pictures with your kids out fishing and hunting your wife and all, man, it’s so awesome to see that. And that’s what we need, isn’t it?
SPEAKER 16 :
That’s it. Yeah. I mean, it’s harder and harder to get kids out into the field right now. And I’m obviously taking it upon myself here with my young ones to to get them out, and especially my boy is really eating up with it. And it’s, you know, one of those really rewarding things, and you don’t quite realize how it’s going to be until you have your own kids, but it’s one that I’m fully embracing myself.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, absolutely. All right, any quick fishing reports? Like I say, the ice report won’t take long. Not much. Have you ever, I mean, have you ever seen a December like this?
SPEAKER 16 :
No. I mean, I’ve lived here my whole life and now been at the shop for 16 years, and I could have never imagined a Christmas day that you could put a boat on Lake John, and that was what we just experienced. So the ice is limited, obviously. If you’re looking to get out on the ice, generally looking at about that 9,500 or 10,000-foot type of elevation and above, is where I would be looking, and smaller bodies of water, and being cautious, obviously, all the way around. But some lakes, like Taylor, seem to be getting a little bit of ice. Blue Mesa’s starting to form some, and hopefully after this weekend we’ll have our high plains lakes, like 11 Mile and Antero, get some better safe ice. So we’ll see there, but for the time being, there’s been pretty phenomenal front-range fishing still. Walleye bite at Chatfield has been extremely productive. way more so than you could ever imagine really at this point. And a lot of springtime tactics like your jerk baits have been really good, but slip bobbers and live shiners have also been producing a lot of fish. So if I was out on the front range looking to get some fish here, obviously it will be a little cold here this weekend, but there will still be some good opportunities over the next couple weeks with the temperatures looking to warm up once more.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, absolutely. Two, what we’re going to do for Austin doing those seminars, we’re going to do these tickets in honor of Austin. We’re going to give away, tell you what, let’s give away two four-packs, okay? So if you would like to attend the Denver International Sportsman’s Expo, January 8th through the 11th, the tickets will be good for any day, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. All you have to do is call 303-477-5600, and we will give the first couple of callers here four tickets to the ISE. I just ask that you use them, and Charlie will get your information. I will call you right after the show and mail those to you, and we’ll call whatever you would like for me to do. Now, you hear the show here live on Saturday, right? The show does replay on Sundays at 8 in the morning, 8 at night, and then the following Thursday at 9 a.m. So the tickets will not be available then. So if you’re hearing this on Saturday the 27th, call now. 303-477-5600. and we’ll give away those tickets. And, hey, hopefully some families get the kids out there and all. It will be a great, great time at the Denver International Sportsman’s Expo. So, Austin, thank you for sponsoring those.
SPEAKER 16 :
Absolutely. Thank you guys so much for having me. I look forward to seeing you down there too.
SPEAKER 05 :
You bet. What are a couple of things, and I won’t keep you long, I know you’re busy on a Saturday, but what are a couple of things, you know, as we get into these fights, we saw some things with, of course, the Prop 127, the fur ban before, but what are some things that you think helped us win that, and just from your angle, that you see from the angler side, and then What do we need to do to really get everybody, and you and I have talked about this until we’re blue in the face, so to speak, but how do we keep people engaged from what we saw from that momentum built from like 127 and the year before?
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, and it’s challenging for me to use the term win in something like this because for hunters and anglers right now, a win is just remaining status quo. And that is a challenge. And the ante is at this point, and always, they are very good at the long game. And it’s something that you mentioned, what do we do in the future here? The big deal is to not become complacent and actually unite as a front, as hunters and anglers together, rather than our own, what you, I guess, could call special interest groups. You know, groups like Pheasants Forever and and Trout Unlimited, and Ducks Unlimited, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, all are fantastic organizations. But when it comes to physically fighting entire hunting bands or fishing-type bands, it’s important that we look at the big picture, in my opinion, because as a guy myself who is a big-time upland bird and waterfowl hunter and fisherman, it could be very easy to say something like the mountain lion hunting band would not affect me. But everyone needs to look at the big picture for the fact that when you’re able to ban one type of hunting or one type of fishing, no matter what type of hunting or fishing you like to do, it is an attack on everyone as a whole. So any and all of these attacks on hunting and fishing need to be taken seriously. And I think in order to remain effective, we have to continue to not only make emails towards these CPW commissioners when it comes on the commission level, but But we need to do better at attending these commission meetings themselves. Hunters and anglers are vastly underrepresented there, and something I’m going to be really trying to make a priority on here in 2026. But also just making sure we’re educating people and friends and family members around us, because it’s hard to look and try and change the minds of a true anti-hunter or anti-fisherman. It’s like arguing politics with someone. It’s hard to physically change their mind. But the people that may be not anti-hunters or anglers, but aren’t necessarily hunters or anglers, in my opinion, are the ones we need to educate on this. You know, moms, mother-in-laws, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, all these kind of people that might not be out in the field all the time. But we need to try and educate those folks in an intelligent and non-combative way to try and talk to them about how this is going to go. Because getting in arguments with people is not getting us anywhere. It has to come, I think, from a way that is less aggressive, at least in my opinion.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, hey, very, very true. So once again, 303-477-5600. Got two four-packs of tickets to the Denver ISE show January the 8th through the 11th. And again, Charlie, I’ll get your information. I’ll call you right after the show. We’ll get the tickets to you. And it’s going to be a great expo. We’re looking forward to it. And catch Austin Saturday. You said Saturday and Sunday, right?
SPEAKER 16 :
Saturday and Sunday. Yeah, I’ll have multiple presentations on both days.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, bud. Well, Austin, thank you. And again, thank you for being a great friend of the show. And I’m going to get with you and see if we can make 2026 have you on a lot more because, man, we need your knowledge. And you guys have just done a great, great job there at Discount Fishing Tackle. So I’ll be in touch, my friend.
SPEAKER 16 :
Thanks so much, Scott. I appreciate you.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, bud. Same here. That’s Austin Parr, Discount Fishing Tackle, 2645 South Santa Fe. When you get by, be sure and let them know you heard about them here on Sportsman of Colorado. We’ve got to take a quick break. Wayne Eubank, Colorado Outdoor Sports, coming up next.

Here’s your Water Talk Minute with Paul the Waterman, brought to you by Water Pros.
SPEAKER 01 :
The EPA announces it will keep maximum contaminant levels for PFOs and PFAs. in our drinking water. What that means is that municipalities are going to have to test and monitor for these contaminants and they will not move to the unregulated contaminant list. This is important for us so that way in our water quality report they’re going to tell us exactly what levels of PFAS are in our water supply. It’s important because you want to have a point of use drinking water system to remove these contaminants and understand the quality of water that’s being provided to you. I’m Paul the Waterman.

It was awesome.
SPEAKER 05 :
Good. So you know who Bob Eubank is?
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
The host of Like the Newlywed? Yep. See, I always think when I say, where’s Wynn Eubank? It’s a game show name, man.
SPEAKER 06 :
Actually, poor Bob, he’s one of the guys in the Eubank family, one of the ones we call the Ellis Island Boys. His is spelled E-U. Oh, okay. And so his name got changed when he come through Ellis Island, you know, immigrating through properly. And we, the E-Ws, are directly from England, and our name got correct. Oh, interesting. And my father always said, he’s not with us anymore, but he always said if you meet someone that’s E-W, we’re all related. And I’ve been doing stuff on Facebook, and it seems to be the case. Yeah, it’s really, really kind of interesting. That’s cool. So, yeah, we’ve been putting a bit better Facebook page, and all the EWs do seem to be related. Wow, that’s cool.
SPEAKER 05 :
And real quick, another great partnership we want to let you know about, and you’re going to be hearing more about this starting next week, but we want to thank the Colorado Wildlife Council. We have… Become partners. And you’re going to be hearing a lot about them on the show. And I’ll be honest, over the last few years, I knew about them, but really didn’t quite understand all that they do. And it is a lot. And we just need to bring them into the ears of the sportsmen and outdoorsmen here for Colorado’s Wildlife and Landscapes. Held in balance by Conservation Work, which is funded primarily with hunting and fishing license fees, as we know. But they just do a great, great work. And again, we are proud to have them on the show and have them bring you Sportsman of Colorado Radio. So we are looking forward to that as well. All right, we’re now going to visit about a few topics here in our remaining time, but Colorado Outdoor Sports, we will start there. I’ve kind of talked about me being in business for a while. Let’s talk about how you got started.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, you say, and I probably have known you just about as long as you’ve been into the game. I’ve been into the game. I bought Colorado Outdoor Sports back in 2010. So I’m going on almost 25 years. It’s kind of crazy. And back like year 17, I think, I said to my wife one day about being at this game for 12 years. And she’s like, you need to recount that, Mr., so and that’s not right uh it’s 17 years now yeah not 25 it’s 17 now because tegan’s 17 and i got as colorado outdoor sports i got to see tegan become cute quentin smith to bring that in quentin smith which you heard on the show just recently as well quentin’s son yeah and uh He’s got his hog hunting operation down there in Colorado, or in Texas. He bought Deuce Plumas, which put me in a real funny position because the gentleman who used to run Deuce Plumas, I can’t remember his name. Allen? Yep. His name Allen? Bryce. Bryce. Okay. And Bryce broke off, and he started his own hog ranch. um but deuce uh deuce plumas i know advertises with you and then of course i hunt with lone star alan with lone star yeah and that’s why so it’s kind of yeah and it’s unfair because now i got two very very good friends in the hunting community that both have hog ranches so it’s really hard well here’s the thing and you know back uh several years ago you know i’d only elk hunted with quentin
SPEAKER 05 :
right and and you know i said hey look i need a second place because you’re booked a lot okay people don’t draw a tag in that instance right i need a second place that i can go check out to see that i can refer people to because i don’t refer people just because of advertising i want to have been there and hunted you know exactly correct i always say i’m the same way they ate their food slept in their accommodation whatever you know so i want to experience it And so it does give us two places, you know, to go to. And, of course, Alan’s just with Lone Star Hunts. Alan Schaffner has just been a dear, dear, dear friend, you know, to both of us. And as a matter of fact, I talked to Alan. I said, man, I hadn’t been down there since – February, March, you need to get back down there. So, yeah, Allen’s got a unique situation down there, a lot of hogs, and it’s cool.
SPEAKER 06 :
And they both do totally different operations, and that’s what’s nice. If you want to keep it inexpensive and you only want two hogs, go to Deuce Plumas and save some money. You want to go see Allen and get four hogs, mention Scott Whatley, get a fifth.
SPEAKER 05 :
And food and lodging.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, and food and lodging and bring home a boatload of meat. I’ll tell you what, one of my members at Colorado Outdoor Sports went with me last year, and he kind of forced me, because we process all our own, he forced me to make jalapeno cheddar.
SPEAKER 05 :
burger sausage and i will tell you i will be remaking that every time i process hogs it’s amazing and that’s normally what we do when we bring them back because you get the smaller hogs and that you know 50 to 80 pound they say meat hogs whatever but we did take some larger hogs and just took them to steve’s meat market because i’m not Right. Getting into all that you do. I know. Everybody does it differently. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
And, you know, you were asking, you know, Austin, who, you know, Austin and I are friends as well. My wife shops too much for me. But you were asking him, you know, how we need to – You know, protect ourselves. You know, the first thing we need to do is we need to quit the infighting. And we all do it differently. The bow hunter guy needs to support the rifle guy and the rifle guy needs to support the bow hunter. And the same with the fly fishermen and the worm drowners. You know, everybody needs to work together. And most importantly, we got to get out there and vote.
SPEAKER 05 :
yeah vote right yeah literally yes okay uh but what i’m saying is you know getting a lot of these hogs make because a lot of people say you can’t eat those yeah you can man again i used to use meat market and we had them made into a lot of different sausage we don’t do ham bacon things like that well you can’t get but the summer sausage um you know um the jalapeno cheddar sausage smoked german sausage breakfast salt and dude absolutely delicious yeah yeah so it really really is
SPEAKER 06 :
We’re going down. We’re going to go down and see Allen February 7th and 8th. I saw you made a post. Anything you want to say on that? Well, we are offering a discounted hunt as a member. I bought it at Mile High Hunt and Fish Expo last year. I bought one at the auction. I’m taking members at $1,200 apiece. Alan is charging $1,500 for this same exact hunt. So if you were thinking about joining Colorado Outdoor Sports, now’s the time to do it because you could go on that hunt. There’s a $300 savings right there.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER 06 :
all right now you’re going to be offering a special at the denver isc as well yep at isc if you pay your dues the dues are 14 80 a year either in one payment or in two payments we will waive the initiation fee of 495 initiation okay so now let’s talk about uh properties from now we’re in the denver texas we’re over here off parker road and 225 if you’re in the area you know that area
SPEAKER 05 :
what would be your length of drive to your closest property from here? What would be your furthest property from here?
SPEAKER 06 :
20 minutes to the closest. Wow. Three hours to the furthest. All right. And probably an hour and 45 would get you to almost all. Two hours would get you to most, most. Wow. And that’s a lot of our waterfowl, too.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right. Okay, so let’s break down what all you do cover.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yep. We’re diversified. Let’s start with, first of all, we’re very, very family-oriented. It is a family membership. It’s not just you. So it includes mama and the kids. Kids are… up until they’re 18 are included as under you if they are still going to school they’re still included up until 25 at 25 it is cut off because we support education but we do not support perpetual students right so if they’re in the eighth grade at 25 they can still come
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, there are some people that continue on college for a long time. Exactly. All right. And let’s talk about your reservation system, how that works.
SPEAKER 06 :
It’s all online. It opens up seven days in advance. And when it opens up, if you’re the one who pushes the button, you’re the one who gets it. Now, here’s what’s really cool about it. Whether it’s a six-man pit or a four-man blind or a spot, You don’t have to let anybody else come in. So if it’s just two of you and you take all your decoys out there and you get in a six-man pit, those other four spots, those are yours. You’re not mandated like a lot of these other clubs that you have to let other people come. And there’s reason for that. It’s because you’re trying to get your kids out there and you don’t need to meet someone who’s being inappropriate or has an itchy trigger finger or anything like that. Right.
SPEAKER 05 :
And unfortunately, we’ve all been in that situation.
SPEAKER 06 :
Every one of us has experienced that. And I will tell you, when I get sweeped with a gun, I become a little bit of a grumpy old man. Yeah, no doubt. No doubt.
SPEAKER 05 :
Again, Colorado Outdoor Sports. ColoradoOutdoorSports.com is the website.
SPEAKER 06 :
My phone number is 720-300-9400. You don’t even have to write that down.

I know. Yeah, you’ve got a good one. But you can see Wynn again. At the Denver ISE Show, January 8th through the 11th. He will also be at the Mile High Hunting Fish Expo the 20th through the 22nd. But the good part is you can join now. Just give Wynn a call.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 05 :
720-300-9400. All right.
SPEAKER 1 :
9400.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right. Tell you what, we’re going to hit our last break here real quick, and we’ll come back when we’re going to visit about a few more topics here. Hey, the draw, believe it or not, we’ll be getting those big brochures back. We’re going to kind of talk with you about that here for a minute. We’ll be right back.
SPEAKER 17 :
Here’s why you need personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch on your side. He understands the way the jury thinks. In the context of a personal injury case, you’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. The idea is that you’re going to try to recover so that you can get back to where you were just prior to that incident occurring. What that really means from a jurist’s perspective is that you’re going to be asking them to award you money. So when we talk about fairness, we’re talking about six people that you don’t know. Those six people view the evidence and make a unanimous decision that will decide what the fair value is. When you’re the one who’s hurt, you have a good idea of what you think it’s worth. The question is, can you persuade those other individuals whom you don’t know and were witnesses to believe that’s what the case is worth? Kevin Flesch understands the way the jury thinks. AM 560 KLZ, your home station.
SPEAKER 05 :
Welcome back to Sportsman of Colorado. If you’re just joining us, my name is Scott Watley. We are glad you are with us. Hey, hope everyone had a great, great Christmas. Happy New Year. Hope it’ll be a happy and healthy one for everyone. As I bring my day timer out, my old-fashioned day timer, and all the pages are blank, you just kind of wonder, how’s that going to fill in for 2026? We never know what’s going to happen in life, man. I mean, there are people – I 100% assumed would be here today that I knew in January that it passed away, you know, unexpectedly. There’s a lot of different things that go on, and certainly our thoughts and prayers for everyone. Hey, this may be your first Christmas or first New Year’s without a loved one, and certainly understand that as well. So, hey, let’s just all be… kinder to each other as we talked about a little bit and uh hey let’s just try to have a great 2026 and uh no better way to spend it than in the outdoors and as austin parr said hey getting your kids involved in it and just really getting out and enjoying some family time i promise you this your kids will remember a fishing trip for two hours more than they will going to disney world for a week
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s a fact.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right. That is a fact. I promise you, and it’ll save you a boatload of money. Okay. All right, when to draw. Man, we could do a whole show on this. But, you know, I do get so many people that move to Colorado that tell us to please do shows on this. So if you are new to Colorado and you are wondering about the draw, there is a lot to know. There’s too much to know. It’s confusing for us that have been here a long time, and they seem to keep trying to make it more confusing. But basically it’s this. Got to be here six months to put in. Yep. You’ve got to have your hunter safety. Okay. What, from 1949 or whatever it is? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So you’ve got to have your hunter safety. And you’ll get a – well, you need to – if you have a CID number here, you will get what they call the Colorado Big Game brochure. Now, again, I’ve heard different things about them not mailing that out anymore, doing things. But it’s available in so many places. It’s all going online. You can go get it. Go into stores. Our friend Billy over at the Outdoorsman’s Attic, they have them. Austin’s got them. Got them at Discount Fishing Tackle. So most of your sporting goods type stores will carry these brochures. But you need to spend some time in that and especially the first few pages. The first few pages are always dedicated to what’s new in 2026. And there will be some things new, I’ll guarantee you. So just getting to know that brochure, understanding the codes, they break down all your big game stuff. in there and uh from archery to muzzle loading you through all your rifle seasons uh some the state and i’m taking this very basic but the state is split up into units so you need to figure out what unit you want to hunt i saw so many posts this year when where i drew a tag and you know unit 81 i’ve never been there before any help would be appreciated i I don’t know why. I don’t even know who thinks that’s a good idea. So, you know, know your units and things, and there are some that take time. A lot of points in a lot of years. That’s right. And there are some you can get with no points.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, you know, that’s actually one of the things that Colorado Outdoor Sports does, and this is part of my job 100%, is if you remember, I walk you through whatever part of the draw process you want, whether it’s for the club itself or if it’s for your own hunting. You’ve got me as a sounding board to say, all right, I’m going to go to 81, like you just said. What do I need to know about that? And then I start with, well, I don’t know any 81 yet. Let me go look at it. I’ll go find out how many points it’s going to take you to draw that, and we’ll talk about it. And that’s just something I do as an extra service through COS just to kind of help guys out. And I do have quite a few guys that will bounce some questions off of me and say, you know, what about this or what about that? And then there’s a lot of guys that if it’s not part of the club, they won’t ask. But I tell them they’re welcome to, you know.
SPEAKER 05 :
And so, you know, there’s A tags, there’s B tags, there’s C tags. So a lot to understand.
SPEAKER 06 :
You can have one A tag.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
And you can have one B tag. Or you can have two B tags. And you can have as many Ts as you want. Right. That’s not confusing at all.
SPEAKER 05 :
Exactly. And, hey, I will say this, and I’m glad of this. There are a lot, a lot of great opportunities for youth hunters. Okay. A lot. There are. Now, there used to be just one main draw, and then they would go in leftover, so to speak. But now there’s two draws. The second draw is heavily weighted toward youth hunters. I think that’d be fair to say.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s what they say, yes. Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
And so— You know, sometimes I wish they had one heavily weighted to folks that have their 20-plus points, like for a moose or something like that.
SPEAKER 04 :
You know what I mean? Let these guys and gals get out before you’re too old. You can’t even do it.
SPEAKER 06 :
It took me 27 years to pull my moose tag. You got yours, what, 22? Two years ago. You’re 23? Did you hear that, Gil?
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. That was awesome. That was good. And what are your top three or four moose units you think?
SPEAKER 06 :
You know, that’s subject to a lot, a lot of debate. You know, I went with a new unit. I’m not going to mention the number, but because I was seeing a lot of moose in it, and it was a unit that had only been opened up five years ago, and I said, yeah, I’m going to go with it. And because of that, it was on the outer edges of the habitat, and I got into a nice big one as well. Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
And – but again, once you kind of understand just a little bit of the layout of how the big game brochure and getting through that, you know, I mean, a lot of places will help you. And if you’re a member of Colorado Outdoor Sports, Wynn will personally help you. That’s right. And – but, you know, get with us. I mean, we would try to help you, direct you to some folks.
SPEAKER 06 :
If I don’t help you, I’ll definitely confuse you more.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, exactly. And – And sometimes you can just, maybe you just want to buy some preference points to build up to get a certain tag in a unit.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m going to give out a tidbit of advice for free for everybody. And some guys will debate this on me, but you’re talking to someone who has 30 elk points. His wife has 31 elk points. He burned 17 antelope points. 27 moose points. The sweet spot for points to use them and to get into extra hunting is two through five. Once you get past five, you get married to them. And then you only want the big boy. If you use them every other, every third year, you’ll be able to hunt that spot that many more times and get into a spot where there’s not that many hunters. We’ve got a piece of property up in 50 that we have. It’s all by draw, but it’s only one or two points, and it gives us access to 6,000 acres of public land.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, wow.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, it’s a great spot. But it only takes one or two points. I’ve got guys that have hunted it now. It’s been in the club for five years. I’ve got guys that have hunted it three times already. It’s a great spot. Interesting. Yep.
SPEAKER 05 :
And so you’ve got how many properties would you say for a big game?
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, you’ve got to turn me off. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. seven maybe eight okay not a lot okay yeah yeah i knew that enough to help the guys out you know that need help with it you know uh we got five turkey spots uh will you get into white tail and mule deer yep yep a little bit of both yep and one one property has them both okay yeah so um then we got uh all together 20 27 properties and over 20 of them are waterfowl Right, right. You know, and I and I very proud to say that I have more water than any other club out there. I actively hunt water, look for it, find it.
SPEAKER 05 :
So now, I want to be very clear. These are not guided hunts.
SPEAKER 06 :
all do it yourself there’s not decoys in a storage shed for you okay everything so i’ll let you say it how you say it it’s a do-it-yourself hunt club and you do yourself we we provide opportunity we’ve got boats we’ve got some blinds we’ve got some pits we got a lot of layouts um know the layouts aren’t out there you got to bring your own You’ve got to brush you up. And everybody works together. You know, that’s not always a perfect situation, but, you know, everybody works together. And once you reserve that spot for a day or half a day, it’s yours. You get to go there. You get to hunt it. And nobody else is allowed to be there. It’s just like having a piece of private property.
SPEAKER 05 :
And, of course, I think the reason why there’s not a lot more land out there is because people didn’t take care of the property. And that’s one thing that you are very crystal clear to your members of taking care of property.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, you’re a member yourself. And how many page of rules did you have to read?
SPEAKER 05 :
See, I joined, I think, two years ago, and I’m not quite finished yet reading. No, I’m kidding.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
But it is. Seriously, it is. And simple things. It’s not like leave it like you found it. It’s leave it better than you found it. That’s right. And simple things. Hey, got a couple minutes here. Anywhere you go. If you go through a gate and the gate’s closed, close the gate behind them. That’s right. All right? And you may say, well, I don’t know. Nothing’s in there. You don’t know that. Okay? They got it shut for a reason.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s right. Right? Pick up your shotgun holes. How hard is that? Right. Clean up behind yourself. Don’t leave your burrito wrapper in the blind. Right. You know? It’s just common courtesy. And also, you know, don’t be – don’t – Breast your birds on property and leave the carcasses. Throw those away on the way home somewhere. There’s a dumpster every two blocks.
SPEAKER 05 :
Stop at a store and put them in their dumpster. That’s right. Tell them Wynn Eubanks sent you.
SPEAKER 07 :
There you go.
SPEAKER 05 :
Hey, it’s Colorado Outdoor Sports, 720-300-9400. Call Wynn. Now, here’s the deal. I know we’ve gone through a lot today. Normally, it’s $495 initiation fee. Correct. If you pay your dues of $1,488.
SPEAKER 06 :
$1,488 either in one payment or two payments, $749 each.
SPEAKER 05 :
You’ll waive that $495.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. One now, one in June. Okay. We’ll waive the $495. That’s correct. Okay. All right.
SPEAKER 05 :
Great, great deal. And, hey, wins a guy you can trust. Again, personal friend and has an outstanding reputation here in the area. So it’s ColoradoOutdoorSports.com. Check them out. And, once again, the Denver International Sportsman’s Expo, January 8th through the 11th. We will be there. I think our booth number is 427. But I think that’s where we are. And once again, we will be at the brand-new facility there at the National Western Stock Show that they have built and more upcoming on that. So I want to thank Dan Johnson, Austin Parr, Wynn. Thank you, sir. Thank you. And we will see you at the IFC. Awesome. Happy New Year to everyone. Once again, have a very, very happy new year. Be safe out there. We look forward to having you back with us here in 2026. So stay safe.
