SPEAKER 06 :
It’s finally Friday on Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. So I tell him I’m a pro jack. And who do you think they give me?
SPEAKER 07 :
The Dalai Lama himself. So we finish 18 and he’s going to sniff me. And I say, hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know. And he says, oh, it won’t be any money. But when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.
SPEAKER 06 :
So I got that to him. And movie reviews with Andy Pate.
SPEAKER 15 :
I think you got the wrong impression about me. I think in all fairness, I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do.
SPEAKER 10 :
What I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I’ve acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
SPEAKER 18 :
Chief, man, what do you want to do tonight?
SPEAKER 10 :
The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world. Stick a fork in me, Jerry.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m done. Now, here is your host of Rush to Reason, John Rush.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, it is Friday. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Myself, Andy Pate, Charlie Grimes, and Andy, it is Friday. It is Friday, sir. Are you all ready? I’m ready. It’s always a great day. We’ve got two movies to do during this hour. We’ve got Movie Rental Hour next hour. What are we doing for Movie Rental Hour? Get people ready.
SPEAKER 03 :
Movie Rental Hour is going to be urban crime and corruption, obviously in honor of Washington, D.C.,
SPEAKER 05 :
And their mayor that just left to go to Martha’s Vineyard.
SPEAKER 03 :
You know, I hear it’s really dangerous up there.
SPEAKER 05 :
Why? Okay. This is where poor leadership. I don’t care what you had planned. I don’t care what was going on. I don’t care what excuse you’ve got. The reality is you’ve got a city that is literally on the verge of, you know, quote, unquote, burning down. You’ve got the president saying, get your mess cleaned up or I’m going to clean it up for you. And you just decide to leave town.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
Dumb, Andy. That is just dumb.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I don’t care what you had set up. You postponed.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, you figure out a way around that. You do whatever you need to do. You get things dialed in, and then you leave and do whatever you need to do. Again, those of you that are on the left, I’m sorry to say, but poor leadership on your part. Poor leadership on the part of your mayor.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, absolutely. Sometimes things are unavoidable. Not this time. That’s a very, very, very bad decision. She should stay there and deal with it because I got news for you, folks. Right now, Democrats are looking worse and worse and worse and worse by the day because of what Trump’s doing in D.C.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, you’re not helping yourselves at all in how this is being handled and, you know, being mad at Trump and pointing the fingers at him and saying that he’s overstepping his bounds and so on and so forth. By the way, that’s got to be one of the dumbest answers out there. For that, what you really should be saying is, guys, we’ve got to do better. We have got to start cleaning up our messes. Now, I get it. That’s not the Marxist way. They want chaos. You guys want this to happen. You want it to be this way. You won’t admit that you’re Marxist, but you are. And at the end of the day, you really don’t care about the chaos. I get it. The problem is that’s not good optics.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. Well, let me ask you something, John, before we go to break. What kind of shape are the Democrats going to be in a few months from now? I mean, they already have really bad— poll numbers, right? They’re already in really bad shape. What if a few months from now, Donald Trump, he has inflation down, jobs are up, tariff deals are signed all over the world with more to come. He has several peace deals around the world, and then he gets the two big ones, one with Israel and Hamas, and then the other one here with Russia and Ukraine. What if he gets those, and what if he cleans up D.C.? ? I mean, at this point, what can the Democrats say? I mean, they’re going to look worse than any party has looked in 50 years.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, there’s not going to be much comeback to that. And depending upon how the Fed responds and what they do here in September, which Wall Street’s already banking on them doing at least a half-point rate cut, we’ll see. I’m not as confident as Wall Street is because I don’t trust Jerome Powell. I think he’s a very vindictive individual. But at the end of the day, I think in spite – of Powell, Trump will get this turned around. It may not be in the next month or two, but I think by at least second quarter of next year, Andy, you’re going to see a big difference.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, you will. I believe it will only be a quarter point. I mean, it should be a half point. Obviously, it should be a full point after everything he’s done, after waiting, waiting, waiting. And you’ve got all the countries around you have lowered their interest rates way down, right? Yeah. And he’s waiting forever. I think Powell is doing it – It is absolutely for one reason. He is trying to help Democrats. He is trying to hurt Trump. He is trying to hurt the Republicans in the midterms. And he’s trying to say, OK, look, I’ve got this position until May. How long can I keep the rates high enough to cripple the housing industry to hurt Republicans next November? I believe that is the only the one and only thing on his mind. At all times, because I got news for you, John. Everything else Trump is touching is turning to gold. They got to do something to hold him up. This is it. That’s all they got.
SPEAKER 05 :
But the risk they have right now is what’s really happening now is people are really starting to realize that. Wait a minute. This isn’t now. I get it. The hard left. They’re always going to say it’s Trump’s fault, not Jerome Powell’s. Nobody cares. But those in the middle are going to be looking at the same. Wait a minute. This guy’s got all of the indications and even Wall Street saying, you know, lower rates, lower rates, lower rates. And he’s not. At some point, the independents will be looking at this saying, wait a minute, this isn’t Donald Trump. This is Jerome Powell. It’s going to backfire on him is my point.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, absolutely. I think eventually it will. But Powell is no different from the protesters in D.C. right now. Those protesters who are paid, of course. who are doing the idiotic songs. And they all look, as I was saying online, whiter than ABBA, which I think is kind of funny because they’re saying this is a racist takeover of D.C. But they are only there for one reason, to occupy the cops. and slow down Trump’s improving of D.C. Right. They’re not there even to make a point. They’re there to slow down cops. They’re there to slow down the FBI. They’re there to slow down Homeland Security. They’re there to slow down Trump because they got to make it so Trump cannot make it too safe in D.C.,
SPEAKER 05 :
I can’t disagree with that. All right. We’ll go on to movies here in a moment. Again, get yourself ready to go. This is one where you’ve got to think just a little bit, although not super hard because there’s plenty of movies out there. But Urban Crime and Corruption, that’ll be our number two. SPEAKER 03 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate and John. Are you ready for a movie?
SPEAKER 05 :
What am I doing first?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, John. Because I didn’t ask earlier. I’m sorry. I got busy. I’m not sure. You know, you never read the news, of course. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of this person. There’s this girl named Sidney Sweeney.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 03 :
You ever heard of her?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes, I have.
SPEAKER 03 :
Just a little bit. Okay. Well, Sidney Sweeney, of course, is all over the news because of a jeans commercial. And here’s my question. Does this new Sidney Sweeney film have great jeans? Let’s watch Americana.
SPEAKER 09 :
What would you do if you had a million dollars? I’d go to Nashville, sing professionally.
SPEAKER 08 :
I didn’t know you were a singer. You sing country music?
SPEAKER 09 :
What kind of music is there?
SPEAKER 1 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 09 :
I got a really dumb idea I’d like to run by you. I think something bad’s going down.
SPEAKER 07 :
Have a look at the newest addition to my humble little collection. A Lakota Indian ghost shirt. Hello? A ghost shirt?
SPEAKER 06 :
Why do you want it? I would prefer it to be in the hands of someone such as myself who could actually appreciate it. If someone were to make an effort to liberate that garment, I would pay… Half a million dollars, really.
SPEAKER 14 :
That’s what the man said. Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
Fair enough.
SPEAKER 09 :
What do you want?
SPEAKER 06 :
The ghost shirt! It’s ours!
SPEAKER 09 :
I don’t think we should do this.
SPEAKER 06 :
That thing is worth a lot of money. All I want is the artifact.
SPEAKER 11 :
What’s up? Right now, I’m apparently in the middle of a murder spree. No!
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, sound pretty crazy, John? Okay, real quick. Yeah, go ahead. I looked this movie up. It says it’s a couple years old already. Has it just been out and hasn’t been released, or what’s the scoop?
SPEAKER 03 :
Exactly. They’ve been waiting to release it. Okay. Maybe it’s been going through editing. I’m not quite sure what.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, perfect.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right.
SPEAKER 05 :
Thank you.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, in a small South Dakota town, a rare Indian artifact, a Lakota Nation ghost shirt. You heard about that on there. Well, it’s made from animal skins. It’s been found. It’s worth about a half million dollars. Well, several characters want this artifact, mostly for cash, to fix their messed up lives. You have a singer pop star in real life, Halsey her name is, and she plays Mandy Starr, an abused woman living with her moron boyfriend Dylan, played by Eric Dane, and her weird son Cal, who thinks he’s the reincarnation of Sitting Bull. Okay. John, why do so many reincarnationists think that they come from famous people? I don’t know. They always think I come from this famous, or somebody really interesting and intriguing. Never anybody boring, right?
SPEAKER 05 :
Great question.
SPEAKER 03 :
I don’t know why. Okay, well, anyway, Dylan, he pulls the heist. He gets the artifact, and blood is shed. Now Mandy’s on the run. Enter shy, stuttering waitress Penny Jo, who’s played by Sidney Sweeney. And she wants to be a country singer, together with one of her regular customers at the diner, Lefty Ledbetter, who’s played by Paul Walter Hauser. Do you know him? He’s good.
SPEAKER 05 :
I’m looking him up right now.
SPEAKER 03 :
Heavy set guy, excellent actor. I really like him. Well, anyway, together with him, Penny Jo wants to steal the artifact to launch her career. Well, young sitting little wannabe Cal, he contacts the local Lakota tribal chief, and his name is Ghost Eye. He’s played by Zahn McLernan. He tells him he wants to help his people get their artifact back. Now, the kid really, really, really believes that. He is Sitting Bull. He’s totally serious about this. So now the Indians are also after Cal’s mom, Mandy, to get their tribal treasure back. You got all that?
SPEAKER 05 :
I got it.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right. Add in some other corrupt characters and cops, and you’ve got a modern sort of Western comedy that looks like it was made by the Coen brothers, but it wasn’t. Well, John, who will get the artifact? Whose lives will be saved? Whose lives will be lost? And what other kooky, creepy characters will we meet? And that’s the story of Americana. What do you think? Sounds good. Yeah, okay. Well, what works in Americana? First of all, John, you have several very good performances. Halsey, who, like I said, she’s a singer. is a surprisingly talented actress. We have another one of these singer-performers who, at least in her first go-round, is excellent on the big screen. I was very surprised. And she shows us the desperation and ruthlessness of an abuse victim because she’s been through it. Sweeney is good as usual, though her twangy stutter seems a bit fake. But that’s okay. She keeps it up. It works. She seems to be… I don’t know exactly how to put it. She enjoys being a pin-up model, which she is, who plays average-looking women. And Sidney Sweeney kind of does this a lot. She’s right now seen as the biggest babe in the country. And she plays these rather average-looking women. Well, good for her. Hauser is always solid. He’s good. But young Gavin Burgum… Bergman, I’m sorry, he steals the show as Cal. What a kooky character. What a creepy kid. I mean, he does a really good job. And this is back-to-back weeks when I’ve seen a kid do a really good job. So that’s pretty cool. There are some funny moments and clever writing, especially with young Sitting Bull talking to the Indians. You know, they’re just looking at him like, are you kidding?
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
And it’s pretty cool. He’s worried that his people have lost their way. It’s just so funny. The action scenes are bloody. They’re raw. There’s a prostitution cult out in the wild in Wyoming, which is truly weird. Truly, truly weird. Okay. So they bring a lot of weird to this. Okay. What doesn’t work in Americana? Well, first of all, John, I’m going to be honest. This is a slog. This movie’s a slog. It’s slow. Tons of characters you don’t like in a story that takes forever. You like Sweeney and Hauser. They’re very likable, but they feel helpless. You got this long, artsy depiction of misery and corruption. This is a depressing movie, and it’s one that does not get over nearly soon enough. many scenes are poorly edited for pace and you can really tell this is very low rent fargo okay they’re they’re looking for kind of that fargo raising arizona that kind of off you know what i mean out in this out in the sticks off bent kind of movie it’s really not working they’re going too slow it’s not it’s not picking it up it doesn’t have a good pace uh here’s the biggest problem the This movie is heavily left-wing. Heavily. Marx is quoted positively. The Indians are anti-festile rebels, okay? They’re going to get their country back or they’re going to take it to us, bad white people. And by the way, this is not frowned upon in this movie. This quote-unquote Western depicts all white men as either evil or stupid. Indians are basically sinless, women are shown to be victims, and their greatest moments are revenge against evil white men. John, if I didn’t know better, I’d swear this film was written by Zoran Mandani.
SPEAKER 05 :
Gotcha.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay, I really thought so. What really surprises me is that this was in South Dakota. And I’m surprised they didn’t show Kristi Noem shooting dogs. I mean, go the whole way. You know, if you’re going to pick a side going into a movie, well, go all the way with it. And they actually left that out. While Marx, Karl Marx, is quoted positively, the Bible is used as justification for abusing women. Oh, what do you know? In fact, there are zero positive references to Christianity except abused by Indians. So except when it’s abused by Indians, there’s nothing positive to be said about Christianity. It’s really twisted. We are, however, lectured once again on what the white man did to the Indians because, you know, we haven’t heard that enough in the movies. I guess we need to be reminded a few thousand more times. Okay, once again, I think what happened to the Indians was terrible, okay, but that’s also how every single country on the planet got started, pretty much. Okay, I’m sorry, but it’s reality. Okay, Rotten Tomatoes gave this movie 84%. John, that was a political score.
SPEAKER 05 :
Gotcha.
SPEAKER 03 :
They loved the politics of this movie. It made them feel good. It gave them a lot of revenge feel against white men in every conceivable way and against America. Okay? So against America, against white men, against Christianity, against everything they hate, this movie preached it. And so, therefore, they were very happy with the movie. Quality, I don’t think it’s a… terrible movie I just think it’s a little below average I’m going to give it two stars for quality because setting aside my feelings because I always do I cut that out setting aside all my feelings on the messaging of the movie it’s just boring This is not as good as a Coen movie usually is. It’s not sharp. It’s not nearly as funny. The characters are not fun enough. It’s just not nearly as good. It’s just not that good of a movie. So even if they had no message whatsoever, I would give it two stars.
SPEAKER 05 :
Still not a good movie.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. Political, one, obviously. Moral religious, it only takes the brief shot at Christianity. I’ll give it two. Okay. Okay, for moral religious. Do I recommend going to Americana so you can see Sidney Sweeney in her first film since making the jeans ads? No. No, I think you’re going to be bored. I don’t think it’s worth it. I don’t think you’re going to have much fun. But if you are really into that avant-garde kind of artsy… neo-western kind of thing where they rip on America and rip on white men and this is what you want to see, then this is the movie for you, folks. You go to that movie and protest.
SPEAKER 05 :
In other words, I won’t be going, in other words.
SPEAKER 03 :
No, you won’t be going.
SPEAKER 05 :
I won’t be going.
SPEAKER 03 :
No, bring some signs if you’re going to go to this movie and you can, you know. Come out of there protesting.
SPEAKER 05 :

SPEAKER 04 :
The best export we have is common sense. You’re listening to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 03 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason. Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate and John. Are you ready for another movie?
SPEAKER 05 :
Hopefully better than the last.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, John, this is one that you and I have been looking forward to all year long.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes. Is this not true? Yes.
SPEAKER 03 :
Because you and I loved the first one.
SPEAKER 05 :
It was a great movie.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, exactly. Nobody, when it came out the first time with Bob Odenkirk, was a surprise hit that came out of nowhere, and I gave it four stars when it came out because I just thought, this thing is terrific. Okay, here we go. A sleeper hit gets an action sequel in Nobody 2.
SPEAKER 10 :
I’ve come to terms with the fact that you don’t have an average job.
SPEAKER 08 :
You guys having fun at the convention?
SPEAKER 10 :
Somebody found me at the game. What game? The one you missed.
SPEAKER 09 :
And summer break’s just a few days away. We should do something.
SPEAKER 08 :
Strictly family time.
SPEAKER 09 :
Come on, kids. It can be an adventure.
SPEAKER 07 :
Let’s do this!
SPEAKER 15 :
I am just so happy that we’re all together.
SPEAKER 18 :
Hey, city boy.
SPEAKER 15 :
Hey.
SPEAKER 08 :
Get out of here. Let’s go right now. I understand protecting your sister, but there are other ways to handle things. I left my phone.
SPEAKER 18 :
I let you know.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, I like your way better.
SPEAKER 12 :
What the hell, Hutch? On our first date?
SPEAKER 10 :
I think I stumbled into something. You’re vacationing in an old bootlegging route. Full of drugs, crooked cops, and one woman who controls it all. You didn’t take your family there, did you? Yeah. You wanted to escalate the situation. Dean, escalate.
SPEAKER 08 :
No escalating. Guys, I’m not going to fight you. I’m here on vacation.
SPEAKER 10 :
Find this. Nobody scorched earth.
SPEAKER 06 :
I just want a break. There’s no way you were just some family man.
SPEAKER 15 :
We all have different sides. But most of all, you’re a dad.
SPEAKER 1 :
Go fix this.
SPEAKER 15 :
I told you.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m on vacation!
SPEAKER 03 :
All right, John, what do you think? Sounds good. Come on, you’ve been lathering for this one like me for months, right? It’s a good movie.
SPEAKER 05 :
Or it looks like one, anyways, I should say.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, here we go. Bob Odenkirk, who I love. Okay, the guy’s great.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 03 :
He returns as Hutch, an ex-assassin trying to live the family life as a loving husband and dad. But this time around, Hutch has fully embraced his assassin lifestyle. He doesn’t have a choice, John. Why? He owes $30 million to a bad man and has to work it off. Well, because of this, Hutch barely sees his family. The guy has him going out on killing sprees again and again and again to get this disc or to get that piece of information or whatever, get this guy to talk. It’s just awful. His life is awful, and it’s wrecking his marriage. Needing vacation, Hutch takes his wife, son, and daughter to Plummerville, where there is fun, fun, fun at a park. Well, Hutch’s family is played by Connie Nielsen, Paige Monroe, and Paisley Catarath. By the way, I really like the three who play his family. They’re really good. Well, Hutch, he hopes to keep his son from following in his footsteps. While wife Becca, well, she hopes she, you know, how do I put this? She hopes he isn’t using this trip as a front to carry out some more hits. Because, you know, let’s have fun. Let’s just do the trip. And Hutch has good intentions. But bad news. The theme park, of course, is the front for a drug-smuggling crime lord, Lendina. She’s played by Sharon Stone.
SPEAKER 05 :
Got it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Her tentacles are everywhere, John. But Hutch, he wants to de-escalate the situation and be on vacation. He’s trying so hard. And yet, after Hutch’s daughter gets hit by a carny, Think about that for a moment. So you have somebody who’s in charge there who cuffs. Actually, I think it was a cop. It was a carnier cop. I forget. But he he cuffs Hutch’s daughter. What would you do if your daughter got cuffed over the head by somebody when she had done nothing wrong?
SPEAKER 05 :
I think you’d probably do the same.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, that’s pretty bad. Well, Kutch – sorry, Hodge, he lets out his true self, okay? And yet he – I’m sorry, I’m getting a little lost here because it’s going so many directions. What basically happens is this. He tries and tries and tries to back down, back down, back down, stay out of this, and everybody around him, he’s escalating it. And cuffing his kid isn’t going to help. Okay, with Lindina – Wanting no one to mess with her empire, Hutch is now becoming a problem. So it’s war! Hutch gets help from his family of all people, so it’s like John Wick meets vacation. What do you think?
SPEAKER 05 :
Sounds good.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right. What works in Nobody 2? Well, first of all, John, you got a short run time, only 90 minutes. How about that, huh? Lots of action, well choreographed. Because you always wonder going into these, okay, the first one, geez, man, the fights were so sharp. Will this one be too? Yes, it is. There’s plenty of humor at many points. I really enjoyed it. I laughed a lot. Again, we have Odenkirk playing the reluctant killer, which is fun. Plenty of frustrated expressions while dispatching bad guys. It’s like he just wants to get through each fight to get back to being a husband and father he’s always wanted to be. And he’s great. I love Odenkirk in this role. He’s so good. And once again, you have many really fun fight scenes. That’s good. It’s almost a Kill Bill feel. Certainly John Wick. Connie Nielsen is his wife. She’s given more to do as Becca in this movie, and she nails it. She’s terrific. I really enjoyed her. I like how her character grows. Now, Paige Monroe is good as his son, Brady. And you have a very growing role here. I think they’re going to have a lot more movies, or at least a couple more. He shows how a son learns from his dad. I’ll just say that. Sharon Stone is a terrific, icy villain. Because you wonder, okay, is she just going to mail it in, just go in and do the role? No, no, no, no. She goes in and grabs this role with relish. She enjoys it. She’s totally crazy, pure evil, sick, demented. She’s down for the cause, John. Really good villain. Okay, what doesn’t work in Nobody 2? Well, the storyline this time is shallower than the first film. It really is. The first film, there was more to it that you learned as it went on. There isn’t that much here. It feels more forced, not as real and fresh. So it’s hard to get into Hutch’s struggles as a father like you did in the first movie. The action feels pretty cartoonish this time around, especially toward the end. That’s where it really gets cartoonish. In fact, the outlandish violence in the finale, it seems much less real than the first film. It goes way overboard. This is what I wished that they hadn’t done. This happens in a lot of these action sequels where the action starts to get silly. I want focused, cool action. Keep it focused and cool. Focused and cool. Don’t get silly. Implausibility. Here’s the biggest killer of any action flick. Several moments where lots of guys with guns are too close with Hutch in plain sight and they don’t hit him. Don’t do that. Come on. And really, it kind of hurts where you’re just like, you know, he’s out in the open. Hutch, get out of the way quicker. Right. And it kills some of the reality of the movie because you realize, okay, I’m in a movie. I don’t want to realize I’m in a movie. I want to enjoy the action, all right? And basically, there are too many villains right from the start. It’s just too many. There’s so many. And also, a lot of these villains just basically walk or run right into death.
SPEAKER 07 :
Hmm.
SPEAKER 03 :
Makes it a little too easy at times. Don’t get me wrong. There’s plenty of fun fights where it’s not, but they make it too easy. Again, come on. All right.
SPEAKER 05 :
Makes sense.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, Rotten Tomatoes. Well, when you’re watching, John, let’s take a moment here. You watch a lot of these action sequels, and you’ve seen the ones where they keep it real, keep it realistic and focused.
SPEAKER 05 :
John Wick, great example.
SPEAKER 03 :
Exactly. And you’ve seen the ones where they start to get a little silly. It starts to get to be a little too much.
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s almost like, we got by with this, let’s add a little.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, add more, add more, add more, add more.
SPEAKER 05 :
To the point where it’s like, yeah, you got too much now.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. And they set up a bigger war. And the war gets silly and you add all these characters. That’s what happened here.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right. However… Wait until you hear my review. Rotten Tomatoes gave this 83%. For quality, I’m going to give this three and a half stars. All right. Not for me. Mine, for me personally, was about four, four and a half. I had a ball. I had fun at this movie, John. I like this movie, and I demand you go to it. Okay. There you go. I think that this was a really fun movie, but it is silly. It does derail a bit. I just didn’t care. I was having that much fun.
SPEAKER 05 :
Makes sense.
SPEAKER 03 :
However, I could tell the crowd, you know, as it got a little sillier and sillier, the crowd was… Get kind of worn out. Yeah, and I did ask a few people afterward what they thought, and you could tell that they really liked it, but… It kind of derailed.
SPEAKER 05 :
Good to know.
SPEAKER 03 :
Personally, I didn’t care. I had fun. Three and a half stars. Political, three. Didn’t say a thing. More religious, three for this genre.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, obviously, virtually all these movies are a zero if you want to just say pure moral. You’re not going to show it on movie night at church on Friday.
SPEAKER 05 :
There’s not too many you’re going to do that with anyways.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, you know, because people die in horrible ways because these are John Wick-style movies, right? But there wasn’t a ton of skin or that kind of thing.
SPEAKER 05 :
So just a good, solid movie.
SPEAKER 03 :
A good, solid movie.
SPEAKER 05 :
That you can have a lot of fun with.
SPEAKER 03 :
John, I had a lot of fun at this movie. And, you know, this past Tuesday I reviewed a movie, Weapons, which I gave the best. I said it’s the best movie of the year so far. Nobody 2, I had as much fun at or more than Weapons. Good to know. Me personally.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right. Good to know.
SPEAKER 03 :
But I can’t. It’s just not as good a movie as Weapons. There you go. It’s still a good movie. Oh, yeah. Heck, yeah. Do I recommend going to Nobody 2? Guys, go to Nobody 2. Get away and have some fun.
SPEAKER 05 :
So you think there’ll be more of these?
SPEAKER 03 :
It’s got to be, man. It’s too fun. It’s too fun. Yeah. Go out to the theater. Turn off your mind, especially in the last third a little bit, and just have some fun. Kick back and enjoy it.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. Makes all the sense in the world. Geno’s Auto Service coming up next. What also makes sense if you’re having problems with the air conditioning in your car, give Geno’s a call today. They’re on the southwest end of town. Geno’sautoservice.com. And don’t forget, Geno starts with a J.
SPEAKER 02 :
Air conditioning season is here. Take advantage of Geno’s Auto’s air conditioning recharge special. Is your vehicle’s air conditioning ready to keep you cool on hot days? We all know how fast Colorado can heat up during the day. The refrigerant in your air conditioning system gets contaminants, evaporates, and breaks down over time. That refrigerant needs to be able to absorb heat to be able to cool your vehicle’s interior. Geno’s uses a cooling machine that takes out the old refrigerant and cleans it. Then they put the clean refrigerant back, topping off with Freon at the right level. To make your life simpler, Geno’s offers loaner vehicles so you can drop your car off and pick up when ready. We back up our work with NAPA’s nationwide 36-month, 36,000-mile warranty. Stay cool this summer by making sure your system is up to date and ready for this year’s summer heat. Give us a call or go online to schedule an appointment. We’re AAA approved and located at Bowles and Platte Canyon. Stop in or visit us online at genosautoservice.com.

The big beautiful bill ends all tax credits for solar and backup power on December 31st of this year. Until then, you can still get 56% back on solar and 66% on backup power. If you’re with Xcel Energy, your backup power is nearly 100% reimbursed. Colorado has all this sunshine, and the government is still paying for most of the cost. Your system must be installed and running before December 31st to qualify for the tax credits and rebates. Call Allen Davis today at 303-378-7537. That’s 303-378-7537. Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 05 :
And we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. And as we said earlier, as we opened up, I believe as we speak, Putin and Trump are meeting right now and talking about what they potentially can get done with the Russia-Ukraine war, I think. And Bob Duco and I talked about this the other day. And Bob thinks, and I think Bob’s probably right here, and I think it’s even been mentioned by Trump that What he’s really going after is let’s just get at least a 30 day ceasefire where we can actually work through maybe some of the other details and figure some things out. But let’s at least stop the quote unquote, you know, destruction and bloodshed for the time being.
SPEAKER 03 :
I think that’s actually very possible, and you know why? Because Putin rained down a lot of bombs recently. It just kind of gave you the feeling that he was trying to get a lot in before any kind of ceasefire would happen. Right. He really has to, John, because look, let’s look at it this way. Let’s say Putin walks out of there with no deal today, nothing. And there won’t be a deal. per se, but what Putin wants is something that’ll bring him to the next step. This is why he brought a lot of people with him. They want to talk a lot of economics and things beyond Ukraine. If Putin doesn’t get a ceasefire and some sort of deal, you know, ironed out to where he can go and meet with Zelensky. then China pretty soon is going to get heavy tariffs put on them by Trump. And at that point, because Trump’s going to look at China and say, you can’t buy oil from Putin either. And then if you don’t have India and China buying oil from Putin, or if they’re really suffering to do so, both of those countries are going to be going to Putin and saying, make a deal, make a deal, make a deal right now, get out of this war. So I think Putin realizes, look, he’s going to go broke very quickly if he doesn’t end this.
SPEAKER 05 :
And, again, you’ve heard Bob mention this on the roundtable. The thing that Putin’s running into right now and very easily could happen is he’s entering into another Afghanistan. And if he’s not careful, that’s exactly how it will end. And keep in mind, and people tend to forget this, we didn’t have much luck in Afghanistan either, which, by the way, we should have looked at what Russia did and realized from the get-go that this is a tough thing to actually – get done because they didn’t do it. We didn’t either, by the way. Now, could we have? Sure. I think there’s things we could have done that Russia didn’t do. True. But politically speaking, we’re never allowed to do the things that we really need to do to go in and clean house. But at the end of the day, Russia didn’t do well with Afghanistan. This could easily be their second Afghanistan, and I don’t think he wants to be remembered that way.
SPEAKER 03 :
No, he doesn’t. Well, he’s lost more lives than this one.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay. It’s become a meat grinder, John, and I just think it is to the point where there’s got to be a land swap of some sort, right?
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s going to be the biggest issue.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. This idea that Trump has to get Putin to give back all the land he’s won is ludicrous. Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
Not going to happen.
SPEAKER 03 :
No, it’s not going to happen. Folks, this is Biden’s war. OK, if Biden had not released the sanctions and allowed Putin to sell all his oil and make a bunch of money, Putin and also if Biden had not constricted supply and driven up the price of oil.
SPEAKER 05 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 03 :
Putin would be able to do this. Yeah. Biden financed this war and then he financed the resistance to it. Right. He financed both sides. This is totally Joe Biden’s war on both sides of the war. Okay. And so to ask Donald Trump to come in on Biden’s war, I’m going to call it that Biden’s war, asking Trump to come in on Biden’s war.
SPEAKER 05 :
And clean up.
SPEAKER 03 :
And clean it up while restoring the borders right back to where they started. That’s ridiculous. He can’t do that. Right. Right.
SPEAKER 05 :
I agree. I agree. There’s a lot of folks out there that I think would not like that ending or disagree with you and I, Andy, but I’ve said, I think both of you and I have said this all along, that in the end, there’s going to be some land that’s given up that eastern, or that western edge, I should say, is going to get, no, no, eastern edge is going to give up, the one towards Russia, that eastern edge is going to get given up. Right. And I was saying western side of Russia, they’re going to grow the western side is what I meant to say. That’s what’s going to end up happening. Russia will be pushed west. And the reality is that’s in, you know, Putin wants more. There’ll be negotiation on how much do you actually get? What’s those lines going to look like? And then you got to get Zelensky to come to the table and agree. Although that little pawn, which I don’t have much respect for him at all. I’m sorry, guys. I just don’t. I think the guy’s a total putz. Just saying it straight up as it is.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, no, I agree. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 05 :
The guy is just a putz. Anyways, you’ll have to get him to come to the table. But keep in mind, for all of you that are listening along those lines, and this is where this really is true, this is the golden rule. The guy with the gold rules. Guess who’s ruling right now? The U.S. and Trump when it comes to Zelensky. Whatever they get put together, whatever whatever talks even are going on today. And trust me, there will be a little bit of, you know, you know, lobbying, you know, throwing, you know, lobbing this up to see if this will stick or that’ll stick. And there will be some of that going on right now. Some of that positioning where, you know, Trump will get a good idea of, well, you know, I think we can come back Zelensky with X and probably get this deal done. What are your thoughts?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I agree.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s how that’s going to work.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, here are some of the things that I think both sides wants or all sides want. Well, first of all, Zelensky is going to want ports. He has to have good water ports to where he can ship out product. Next, Zelensky is going to want deals, mineral deals, with the United States. Why? Because that puts United States companies right there in Ukraine, which means Russia’s not going to hit them again.
SPEAKER 05 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s why he wants them there. In fact, he’s going to want those on the eastern edge. Yeah, I can’t argue that. Yeah, he’s going to want American company involvement on the eastern side of Ukraine. Why? Because the moment you do that, Putin will realize if I attack again, I’m attacking America. That’s why he’s going to want that. Putin is going to want to keep a fair amount of the land that he’s already gotten. And he’s going to want, I don’t know about minerals, because Putin has a lot on his own, by the way. But, I mean, you always want more, right? So maybe he’ll want some of the minerals. I don’t know. I actually think Putin is going to want his two things. He’s going to want to keep a fair amount of the land that he’s already gotten, and he wants big trade deals going forward. He wants business deals with America. That’s what he wants.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 03 :
He wants commerce between us and them. Can’t argue that.
SPEAKER 05 :
And I was just looking at the map as far as the ports and stuff go. All of what you just said, by the way, is doable. Yeah, not going to be really hard to do. I don’t know where currently. I’d have to look at a map very closely, and I’ve never been to that area, so I can’t say exactly where some of their existing ports are. But bottom line, Andy, everything you just said is pretty doable. It is pretty doable. You could even slice, you know, you’d even slice and leave some of the bottom section next to the ocean, you know, next to the sea open, you know, or give that to Ukraine. In other words, there’s all sorts of ways to draw.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, yeah, exactly. And basically, it’s like this Ukraine, you’re going to lose some land. But let’s make you really profitable. And let’s make you much safer going forward.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s what you want.
SPEAKER 05 :
Including, you know, the other thing you could broker in all of this, and don’t be shocked if this doesn’t happen, whereby Trump even comes to the table and brokers some things between the two countries in regards to, OK, Ukraine, you can have some of Russia’s oil. Russia, you can get some of their minerals. You go back and forth. I mean, don’t be surprised if in the end there isn’t, A, some land that’s given up. But in turn, OK, Ukraine, you’re going to get this deal in return. Right. Monetarily speaking, I mean.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, because, I mean, getting Ukraine to trade with Russia and help. But here’s the thing, because Ukraine will look at that at first and say, hey, we don’t want to buy anything from them and help fund their war machine. But Trump comes back and says, what are you worried about?
SPEAKER 05 :
We’re going to be there to protect you anyways. Who cares?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, we’re going to have businesses right there on your eastern side.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 03 :
They’re not going to attack you.
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s not going to be an issue.
SPEAKER 03 :
Attacking you means attacking us.
SPEAKER 05 :
Correct. We’ll see. And again, for all of you listening, by the way, you’re not going to know much today. There’ll be a few little sound bites here and there, and Trump will talk about some of the things that happened. It’s going to be a good meeting and all of that. But I do think there’ll be a ceasefire that comes out of it today.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, all I can say is this, John. I’m hopeful of a ceasefire. I don’t know if it’ll come immediately. These people who complain, well, Zelensky, he should be there. No, he shouldn’t. No. He’s already had a meeting.
SPEAKER 05 :
He’s a third wheel.
SPEAKER 03 :
Trump has already had a meeting with Zelensky. Right. Now he’s having a meeting with Putin. Then he’ll have a meeting with Zelensky and Putin.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, Zelensky in this particular case, that’s that old two’s company, three’s a crowd, he’s a crowd. You don’t want him there right now.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, just like Putin would have been a crowd when he was meeting with Zelensky. Right. You couldn’t have done that either.
SPEAKER 05 :
On top of that, and I said this the other day, I still mean it. Besides the fact you put Zelensky in the room, he’s the dumbest guy there. So, you know, sorry, you don’t want him in the room. He’s the dumbest guy in the room. He is. Because he is not a sharp guy. Sorry, he just is not.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, speaking of not sharp guys, how about the guy who created that war? And once again, this is Biden’s war. Aren’t you happy to see Donald Trump be the one? Absolutely. Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right. Question of the day yesterday. When was the first rechargeable battery invented? I said it was a lot longer than most people would have thought.
SPEAKER 1 :
1859.
SPEAKER 05 :
1859. Is it still going? That same technology is alive today, believe it or not. So it’s still rolling along. That basic principle is still alive today. All right. Impossible question of the day. What was the first, and you probably all know this one off the top of his head, what was the first fully computer animated movie?
SPEAKER 03 :
Fully computer animated was Toy Story?
SPEAKER 05 :
First fully computer animated movie.
SPEAKER 03 :
Fully computer. Well, I’m going to go with Toy Story, but I can’t remember.
SPEAKER 05 :
That is Andy’s guess. You guys can take that or leave it. We’ll be back in a moment. Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning coming up next. And if you’ve got any problems at all with your air conditioning, talk to Hunter today. He’s got time. He can get that looked at. So give him a call today. Find him at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 04 :
The summer season is still grinding on, but your air conditioner is not. So it’s time to call Cub Creek. The techs at Cub Creek Heating and AC don’t work on commission, so they’re not going to try to talk you into a higher cost fix. They love getting calls for second opinions because they can usually give you some good news and fix the problem for less. They don’t buy into upselling, and they believe that an air conditioner should last the longest time possible. That’s why they won’t move right to replacement if it’s possible to repair it. They understand the incentives and rebates better than most, and that means if you don’t need to replace it, they’ll work with you on figuring out the most beneficial way to repair it. Don’t wait until it’s an emergency when you’ll have to wait in the heat. Get our Rheem-certified pro partner Cub Creek Heating and AC out for a free quote fast. Find Cub Creek on the klzradio.com advertisers page to schedule your no-obligation quote.
SPEAKER 05 :
Live and local, back to Rush to Reason. All right, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Next hour, next hour, rental hour, I should say movie rental hour, urban crime and corruption. Andy, give us some guidelines.
SPEAKER 03 :
You know, this is actually, I know at first, blush, this sounds hard. Urban crime and corruption. Actually, this is really easy, folks. Just think of any movies with crime or corruption in cities.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s it. You’re there. Okay. You realize how many movies that is? Okay. That’s thousands of movies, actually. And it’s really not that hard. Of course, once again, we’re doing it because of Washington, D.C., which is being cleaned up as we speak by Mr. Donald Trump.
SPEAKER 05 :
And guys, loosey-goosey, I mean, we’re not going to, you know, does it have to be an urban crime movie all the way through? I mean, yes, there needs to be some of that in the movie. But, you know, now the corruption side of it, there’s a lot of movies that involve corruption. I think what I tried to do was add the corruption and the urban crime, kind of get both those together, not just doing a corruption-only movie. I wanted a corruption that was more city-oriented than just a corrupt movie.
SPEAKER 03 :
Absolutely. And by the way, it doesn’t have to be American cities.
SPEAKER 05 :
True. No good point. It can be any city. Yeah, yeah. No, that’s a great point, Andy. So, again, you guys can get a little loosey-goosey. Just, you know, you guys know. We just want to have fun in the next hour.
SPEAKER 03 :
We don’t care. Let me give you one that I’m not even going to use. You could go this far. Aladdin. Oh. Okay? That was in a major city in the Middle East, and he was a crook. You see, it’s really much easier than you think. This can stretch a lot further. I’m not going to use it.
SPEAKER 05 :
I hadn’t thought of that one.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, you know, that’s kind of on the far end. That’s a great example. Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, no, that’s a great example. Meaning, again, it doesn’t have to be in the U.S. It can be somewhere else. Is there crime, which in a lot of movies there is? Is there a lot of corruption involved in it?
SPEAKER 03 :
Tremendous corruption in Aladdin.
SPEAKER 05 :
You can, you know, I’ll give you another example, a movie that and I just I just had it in the tip of my tongue and then I just forgot it. But movie that I didn’t have on my list. And that’s the one with Jennifer Lawrence, where it’s the Hunger Games. Hunger Games. OK, so that’s an example where, yeah, it’s not modern day, but it’s still an example.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. Because they had their big capital city.
SPEAKER 05 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 03 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 05 :
And it was all very corrupt and all that ran out. Totally corrupt. Even how the games were played was corrupt and the whole nine years. So that’s an example. It’s not on my list, but that’s an example.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. City of any kind plus either crime or corruption is a winner. There you go. It’s that easy.
SPEAKER 05 :
