Hello, second call, sorry. That’s all right. No worries. Hey, I got a question I thought of, you guys. Can you hear me okay?
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, yeah, we’re fine, absolutely.
SPEAKER 16 :
Okay. So when we’re building these little motors… We’re switching heads around, right? You know, you put the different head on the, you know, the 2.2, or what I got is a 2.3 on top of a 2.4, and that’s the GM Twin Cam Quad 4 motor, if you’re familiar. Now, the injectors, so I’ve got this now. I’ve noticed, like, those older style injectors have bigger bodies to them. Uh, and another, and injectors are important for us because we do, we’re subjected to dirt racing. These things are getting dirty and it’s a real good way to hurt, hurt your engine. So we’re, I want to get them cleaned and tested. And now the thinner ones that are the newer ones, like out of the old two or something, you know, compared to maybe the 93 or 94 style fuel injectors. Do you know, should, is there a place I could go? They can test fire and clean them all out and we can look and make sure, or which one should I be running? Should I be matching the, the older style injectors with that, you know, the two, three cylinder head.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’d match it to the computer, whatever it operates off of originally is going to match the injector. I wouldn’t change them otherwise.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah. Okay. Right. And then I would go to a tune. I’m going to go to your, that does make sense because right now it’s tuned for the two fours. Uh, So I should, so if I go to the, now does that, are they gonna help me though if I go to that older style? I’m gonna retune this thing anyway. But is that an upgrade to go backdate on those bigger debate? Will they force more fuel possibly?
SPEAKER 05 :
I have the foggiest idea on that one, Jeff. That’s out of my league on that one. I don’t know enough about that motor to tell you.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah. Well, it’s so hard to say. And, I mean, as long as they’re flowing and atomizing properly, you know, for the cylinder head configuration, you know, and you’re able to, I mean, get it dynoed to where they can dial that engine properly or –
SPEAKER 16 :
have you not gone that far or anything like that oh yeah i i went to uh colorado what was it colorado who died under that he won’t do it he won’t do it though anymore because he’s worried about epa colorado speed and chassis but then i went to and he’s an aurora the asian guy but then you guys told me and i haven’t been out there yet to go to uh boost creep on the tuning Oh, okay. Out in Longmont. Is that still the guy to go to?
SPEAKER 05 :
If that’s what we told you then, yeah, I’ve not come up with anybody else since. Right.
SPEAKER 16 :
No, I think his website’s incredible. The guy seems to be the, yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
Not many guys do it, so if you found somebody that’s good and solid, keep using them. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER 16 :
So I’d imagine he could probably get in there and look at the different, but I just don’t know, yeah. Should I, the older ones, I don’t know if they’re, You know, if they have bigger, if they spray more, like say if it atomizes, it atomizes, I guess.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, you just need the right amount. So, yeah, whether they spray more or less or, you know, you have to have just the right amount anyway. I would definitely look at it that way.
SPEAKER 16 :
Do you guys have the tool or whatever I’ve seen that has been on my feed lately and it shows the – injectors firing and they can see if they’re clean and all this.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, I don’t think any of our shops have that.
SPEAKER 09 :
There would be no reason we would need something like that because that would be high-speed film and a camera that goes, yeah, then no.
SPEAKER 05 :
We don’t have anybody, Jeff, that I, I mean, even in all the years I did things, no, anything along those lines you sent out to somebody that specialized in injectors, I never did anything along those lines either.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. There was no reason.
SPEAKER 05 :
Unless you were racing or doing things like that, there wasn’t any reason. In a regular production shop, no reason to have any of that.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right, yeah.
SPEAKER 16 :
Right. We just want to make sure that they’re not clogged up or whatever. You know, if you set them and then there’s one that has got a little bit of a clog. Right. So, I don’t know. There’s a guy on Facebook Marketplace that I’m talking to right now. He’s got a place up. on federal somewhere. And he said he has something like this that he can, you know, I’ve seen the machine, you see it firing, you know, guys that do injector work and do rebuilds and so on.
SPEAKER 05 :
They have them. There used to be some here in town, but I don’t think they’re around anymore. So I, I only, I think there’s somebody still on the Western slope that does some of that, but I don’t know of anybody in town, Jeff, that does now I could be wrong. And if somebody knows of a place in town that rebuilds injectors and so on, let me know. And I can reach back out to you, Jeff, and let you know, but I don’t know anybody off the top of my head.
SPEAKER 1 :
Right.
SPEAKER 16 :
Okay. Another quick question on the, so when I have put that two, three head on top of this thing, the compression does jump way up. Okay. You know what I mean? Okay. And you can hear it ping in there if you don’t have enough octane. Now, can the guy get away with using octane booster instead of straight up? race gas on those things to run right? Because the smell and everything gets a little, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER 05 :
I doubt it. If you’ve got that much compression, you’re going to need race fuel.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
I don’t know of any octane booster that will do what you need to do. The race fuel is what you need.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
And it makes more power because there’s other things to it than just the octane.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :

Hey, guys. Hey, you know, John, one thing you always talk about is backing into parking spaces. Yep. And I have come to the conclusion that backing into parking spaces, backing in general, is much like parallel parking. It’s a declining skill. Yes, it is. You’re right. I was just at the store and was watching somebody. I just pulled up and pulled into the parking space. It was just easier. And this younger gentleman pulled up next to me and took him about three tries to back into this parking space. And I was afraid to even open my car door because he was just struggling so much.
SPEAKER 08 :
As you should be. Right.
SPEAKER 14 :
Mm-hmm. You know, I mean, in this day and age with so many cameras and mirrors, I don’t understand how it’s so difficult.
SPEAKER 05 :
There are days I wonder how some people get from A to B. So backing is a whole other thing on top of it. I’m just wondering how do they get from one place to another.
SPEAKER 14 :
How do they get out of there?
SPEAKER 05 :
I’m exaggerating when I say that.
SPEAKER 14 :
Come spend a day in the semi with me, and you wonder how some people manage to get out of bed.
SPEAKER 05 :
I can fully understand. Yes, I appreciate that. Yes.
SPEAKER 14 :
You know, I sit here some days and just look at it and go, you know what, I’m just going to go back home and call it a day at this point. Yeah. I hear you. But anyhow, I do actually have a serious question for you guys. Go ahead. So, you know, I brought up a couple months ago, or a month or so back, I was talking about I had put my wife into… long-term care temporarily while she was recovering from some spine injury, she’ll probably be home by Christmas. We’re contemplating, we’re having a discussion that maybe next year getting rid of her car and going to a hybrid. And one thing I am noticing is it seems like every one of the hybrids use a CVT. Yes, that is correct. So I’m inclined to lean towards Subaru just because they’ve used CVTs since Jesus was in short pain.
SPEAKER 05 :
Buy a Toyota. If you’re going to buy a hybrid, buy a Toyota. Nothing against Subaru, but that would be probably the last hybrid. And nothing against Subaru. Like them, they have good cars and all that. But on the hybrid end of it, that would be the last car I would buy in a hybrid.
SPEAKER 14 :
Okay, because it seems like the Forester has the greatest range on the hybrid.
SPEAKER 05 :
That could be, but on the hybrid, you’re not really looking at range. You’re looking at how effective are they using the hybrid sides of things. In other words, how often is the battery engaged, disengaged, and so on. And again, nothing against the other manufacturers, but Toyota was the innovator of that. They still are the leader in it. If I was going to buy a hybrid, I’d buy a Toyota or a Lexus.
SPEAKER 14 :
Okay. Well, I just didn’t want to have to pay Toyota tax, that’s all.
SPEAKER 05 :
I hear you, but there’s a reason it’s the best. Yeah. And it is.
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, that’s debatable on some of the Toyotas. It depends on which one we’re talking about.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, in the hybrid technology, they have it down pat. It is the best, period.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, I just talked to somebody the other day with a Tundra that’s getting his second new motor.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, and they’ve had some issues on the manufacturing side. Again, that has nothing to do with the hybrid system. That’s a manufacturing issue, and whoever they must have specced something out. They’re not getting the metal filings out. I don’t know what the exact situation is there.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, he bought one back at the end of last year, and it was part of the initial recall earlier this year. They put a new motor in it in May.
SPEAKER 05 :
and he just got noticed the other day it’s being recalled again for the motor yeah yeah yep they’ve had issues on that for sure yeah and i mean every manufacturer have their issues as some you know yeah yeah you know subaru you’re adding oil every 400 miles so you know i mean there’s that yeah and again just maybe not on the hybrid end of things and it’s nothing against subaru but i wouldn’t buy if i bought a subaru i’d buy a regular car i wouldn’t buy their hybrid
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, Subaru had the best all-wheel drive when they came out with it, and it was reliable, and they were the best at it. But hybrid’s a different game.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, I mean, we had even discussed going, because I just saw a Consumer Reports, I think it was Consumer Reports or something, that they were now rating Audi as a top-rated vehicle, which is something they hadn’t done for years. And she says, we used to have that little 86 years ago, and we got rid of it after it was wrecked. And I’ve said many times, I’d be more than happy to go back to an Audi. I really like the vehicle.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, yeah, nice cars. Sure.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, I mean, if Audi would come out with a hybrid, I’d be even more inclined to it. Because we’ve talked about the notion of a regular plug-in electric, but unfortunately, the way our house is set up, I can’t run the… I don’t have electric in my garage to be able to run the… The level two charger. Yeah. I don’t have the ability to do it cheaply. It would have to be just plugged into a regular outlet to plug into it. Makes sense. So, you know, that kind of creates a problem. Once she goes back to work, and this was when she was working and whatnot, she only drives three miles a day. So an EV on full charge, you know, I would be charging once a month. Right. Most likely. Right. You know, and so, I mean, even a hybrid, depending on how it works, on a full tank of gas would probably last me two months with the way she, you know, as little abuse as she gets.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right. Well, even a plug-in hybrid would recharge overnight. Right. Yeah. Right. Without the level two. Yep.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah. Yeah. Well, I guess that’s all the stuff I’m going to have to start looking at because we’ve looked at different ones, and she’s been inclined towards either Subaru or actually the Outlander, the Mitsubishi Outlander.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, no. That’s a no-go. That’s an absolute no on any level. Yeah, wouldn’t go that way. Yeah, I wouldn’t buy a Mitsubishi, period.
SPEAKER 1 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, I’ve got a friend that’s got a regular gas one, and he put $200,000 on it before the engine went out.
SPEAKER 05 :
Good for him. He said it was great. Still a no, no, no, no, no.
SPEAKER 14 :
At the same time, he had other issues.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, that’s a no-go for me. That is one of the few brands I would say never buy.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, just the servicing of that vehicle. Good luck.

Finding somebody to work on it, parts and so on, it’s a no-go. Yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Okay.

Gil, what was your experience like working with RoofMaxx?
SPEAKER 20 :
Very good. With Dave Hart, we right away connected. You know, he was a very nice person to talk to, very accommodating. He even came over to my location when I asked him that I couldn’t go to him. He came to me and he walked the roof and he said, Gary, there’s just a couple of minor repairs needed. A few shingles needed to be replaced. And that was the start of our, you know, my conversation to go with him. I said, well, give me a bid and we’ll go from there.

That’s great to hear. And how long did the process take from your first call to the final treatment?
SPEAKER 20 :
Well, it was an excellent experience. They were very accommodating with my time. Dave was very willing to meet my needs. and so gave me an idea of what it would take to repair it. It wasn’t very much. And so I think it was maybe he came over one day and then maybe two days afterwards and got it all done. All in one day. It was awesome.

I listened to the show today. And lots of information about diesels.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 15 :
And so my general question is, over the last 20 years, or 25, what have you seen with your experience are the best diesels out there by manufacturer? Ford, Dodge, Chevy… I’m just curious.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s tough.
SPEAKER 15 :
I assume that some years are better than others.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, and really, I think we could probably do it in that manner. It’s typically where if somebody’s looking at a diesel, they’ll tell me what they’re looking at, and then I can help them with the decision based upon what year are they looking at and so on. Currently, you know, the three that are the – well, the only three. I mean, I was going to say the leaders, but the three that are there now, 6.7 on the Ford, 6.7 on the Cummins side, and 6.6 on the Duramax. Really anymore, Mike, truthfully, and I’m not trying to sidestep this, but in that case, it really comes down to what truck do you like the best? I’ve got listeners that are driving, you know – One of each. I’ve got in my fleet, I’ve got the GM and the Ram. I don’t have any Fords, not because I don’t like Fords. We just, in my opinion, dealer network wise and getting things warrantied and handled here locally has been our challenge as a fleet. So we don’t have any. but really it all comes down to comfortability. What do you like driving the best and so on? What kind of a deal can you make? As far as their specs go and how they perform versus one another, they are so close that the V8s will have a little bit better of a bottom-end start, i.e. right off the line they’re a little bit more peppy, I guess you could say, Mike, because the V8 configuration where the straight six on the Cummins isn’t quite as peppy, although the new one, which I have a new one, It’s better than they’ve been, so it’s fairly peppy off the line as well. And for most of what those guys are doing with big diesels where you’re plowing snow or you’re pulling trailers or campers or whatever, at the end of the day, they’re pretty darn equal. And I know there’s guys out there who are going to yell at me and say, oh, no, this one’s better than that one and that one’s better. No, it really comes down to preference.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, friends-wise, same with me. Ford, Chevy, Dodge. It really doesn’t matter. Exactly.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, that’s good to know. That’s really interesting. As a quick aside, really enjoy Richard’s car test.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, thank you.
SPEAKER 15 :
Today’s test, I mean, kudos to your son. He does a great job, and I was fascinated by the test of that hot hatch that Toyota’s out with.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah.

Been trying to find a shop that can flush my transmission on my 2012 Tahoe. Okay. And I had talked to you a while back about this, so I need it flushed. And I only found one shop down here, and I can’t get them to give me a call back. Apparently my money is no good to them.
SPEAKER 05 :
That one doesn’t make any sense. I mean, I would take your money if I was in that business, which I used to be, Kevin. I never had any problem with that, so I don’t know why this is so difficult.
SPEAKER 06 :
I have no idea either, and it’s not a very large shop, but I digress. Anyway, I need a recommendation. I’ll come to Denver to get it done. It needs to be done, so…
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and we’ve got, you know, on the south end of town, we’ve got, you know, Ken Rackley here at Toon Tech that’s at Colfax and 225. We’ve got Geno’s over in Centennial, Bowles and Platt Canyon. Just a matter of, you know, kind of which end of the spectrum do you want to drive to. Either one of them could do that for you, Kevin. No problem.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, I drive a truck for a living, so driving is not that big of a deal.
SPEAKER 05 :
Either one of them, and again, probably coming up from the springs, it’s a toss-up. You could go either or. It’s just a matter of whether you want to come around the 225 bend to Ken or do you want to go 470 around to Geno’s. It’s about half one as is the other. Right, yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, I’m writing this down as I’m listening.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.

Okay, I got Ken’s.

You hear me a lot. So Gino’s with a J. And either one could do that. I mean, again, Ken, that is – or Kevin, that is not, as Ken would know, not a – I mean, this is routine maintenance on that vehicle. I don’t know why somebody down there won’t do this for you. This is not challenging. I’m sorry. This is not a challenging job at all.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right, exactly. That vehicle is – Easy. You know, I mean, yeah. Yeah. Put the machine on it and go. BG cleaner in it and, you know, run it. It’s simple, Kevin. Exactly. That’s not a tough one.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, I – I’m sorry. I started to talk over you. You said something about BG cleaner.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, we use our guys, both in this case, Ken and Steve at Geno’s. Both those guys are going to use the BG. Mark is the same way over here. We all use the BG system to do the transmission. It’s a complete fluid exchange. It’s not just a flush. It’s a complete exchange, and there’s an additive inside. in that process that BG uses that helps flush that transmission out at the same time. And, again, all of our guys are going to do that exactly the same way. It’s not going to be any different.

And somebody had asked on a text message, would I explain the difference between BG’s 44K product and the BG Supercharged product? Yes, and I don’t work for BG, but I can explain it because I’ve used their products for years. So 44K. is a product that is doing some cleaning of the injectors, I mean heavy type cleaning of the fuel system. Any place the fuel is touching, it’s going to do an extra good job of cleaning that particular area. So whether it’s the lines itself, whether it’s the injector itself, you name it, wherever the fuel is touching, it’s going to do its job in cleaning. where it gets you know more difficult on direct injection engines is keep in mind that injector is going right in the top of the combustion chamber or side of it top of it depends on how the configuration of that engine is and what the engineers decided to do it’s not hitting the valve because there’s no injector there there’s no fuel hitting the valve and that’s where the You know, the whole EPR and some of what we’re doing along those lines and making sure you do proper oil changes and use proper fuel. I was going to talk about this the other day and quite didn’t get a chance to do it. But I got a – somebody sent me a – forwarded me a newsletter from Porsche talking about using the right fuel, top-tier fuel, in this case in Porsches. And they actually gave – an examination of valves that were new, valves that had been, after so many thousands of miles, not using top-tier fuel, and then top-tier fuel. And non-top-tier fuel, there is much, much, much more carbon buildup on the valve than there is using top-tier fuel, especially on a direct injection engine, because there’s nothing to wash that off. and it’s just going to have more buildup. And yes, there is a difference in fuel, despite what a lot of people even have argued with me on and off air. And again, this is Porsche sending out a newsletter basically to their driver saying, please use top tier fuel in these vehicles.

A study that shows, and they’re gaining nothing from that.

They don’t make money on fuel. Yeah. Not a thing.

that’s right your ability so anyway so that’s 44k so those of you that want to know where a supercharge is more of a you could put in every tank if you want to 44k you’re going to use once twice a year sort of a thing maybe every oil change so maybe three times a year max on a direct injection engine but supercharge can be used at all times in fact you can use supercharge in your lawnmower you could use it in your chainsaw you could put supercharge anywhere you want and the other advantage supercharge has and you hear me talk about this all the time is it’s a great fuel stabilizer I’ve got one particular vehicle that I didn’t mean to do a test on, but it ended up being my test vehicle. I had fuel that was in that car for two years with supercharge, no problems, fired right up. So meaning I got two years out of a tank, and that’s an old car vented. So not a canister where things are closed, and typically fuel will last a little longer even in those cars than what it did in this car. Vented systems, typically the fuel goes bad faster because air is getting into the gas more easily. So in this particular case, that was a really good, solid exercise in how well does supercharge work. It works. So that’s the difference. You’re using supercharge as more of a maintenance item and it’s a stabilizer. So if you want to keep some fuel stable over winter or whatever, use it in that. 44K is not a fuel stabilizer. Right. It’s a cleaner. It’s a cleaner. It will not do anything to stabilize the fuel. So those are the two biggest differences. Ed in Los Animas, go ahead.

And it has a wheel leak on the front wheel. You know, discharging a seal, I think, is leaking on it. Okay. So what do you think? Would that be expensive to fix or is it not too bad? What kind of tractor is it? It’s an 84. It’s an 84 Zari or something. It’s not a farmer. Zari or something like that.

Okay. That’s probably going to be one, Ed, where the biggest issue is going to be finding the right seal. There’s plenty of seal companies out there where once you get that seal out, you can take some measurements and find a replacement seal. That’ll be the biggest hassle is finding the seal.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah.

Okay, but it’s not all that real bad. No, not that hard.

No, you won’t have any trouble doing it.

I have a 99 Buick LeSabre V6 3.8 and 130,000 miles, and recently it’s like five times it’s stopped running. I mean, you could be driving… 45, 50 miles an hour, smooth as could be, and not cough or anything. It’s just like you turn the key off, and the instruments all go dead. You know, the gas goes to zero, the amps and all that. You put it in neutral, turn the key, start it up, runs fine, drive it another 50 miles. And then sometimes, and it’s always easy to start, it’s… Easy to, I mean, it just comes out of the middle of nowhere. And a couple times it’s done it just at idle at a light, you know, where you’re just sitting waiting on the light to turn green, and boom, drops it.
SPEAKER 05 :
And what I’m thinking, Ken’s opinion, but since all electrical is cutting out,
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, with all electrical, yeah, that car has definitely some idiosyncrasies that can cause that. But battery area and the fuse box right by the battery are usually where I would look first in that because they have two positive battery cables that are sandwiched together on that one. And a lot of times there can be a problem in that where you lose power to one of the main fuse boxes or something like that.
SPEAKER 05 :
Check for corrosion, all that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, and you have to take those apart, completely apart to actually see anything.
SPEAKER 05 :
Because you won’t see it otherwise.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right, and…
SPEAKER 05 :
And if you do get it apart, make sure you take some emery cloth and kind of sand all your surfaces back down before you put all that back together.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, and then the fuse box that’s right by there too, you have to make sure that where that power feed goes into there that there’s not an issue. We used to see those melt or stuff like that.
SPEAKER 10 :
You mean like a loose bolt or a loose fitting? Correct, yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
Make sure none of the plastic is melted or anything like that, yeah.
SPEAKER 10 :
Any chances that… It could just be the ignition switch and the key.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, yeah, I mean, shutting the power off to the, yeah, that could very well be it too. We’ve seen, yeah, and so it’s shutting all the gauges off. So, yeah, I would definitely look there first for sure. Yeah, I’m just trying to, because is that key on the dash or is it on the column?
SPEAKER 10 :
No, it’s on the column. Okay. And it has the key, you know, it’s a General Motors.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 10 :
It has a little. At the end of it, it has like a little chip with a little wire in it?
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, the chip, that contact won’t make it stall. That will set a security code, but that won’t make it stall. It’ll just make it not start. So if it’s running, that won’t make it shut off. Um, those weren’t as common for ignition switches on the column key or on the column, uh, lock cylinder as they were on the dash. But, um, but yeah, all places to look for, you know, definitely losing, losing some power for sure. Somewhere.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. You get, you get no, uh, you know, the oil pressure drops to zero, the fuel to zero, the radio goes off, you know, everything. But then again, it And the funny part is it fires right, you know, you can be coasting, you know, 40 miles an hour, put it in neutral, and start her up, and off you go again.
SPEAKER 09 :
One thing you might want to try just to maybe see if that switch is it is with it running, just try moving that switch back and forth or moving the key lock cylinder. Just move it back and forth. If you can get any kind of reaction like that from that, then I would probably start there.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay. And one of the questions you said, and I know I’m in the battery cable and I can follow the ground and all that down. And I did check the battery, you know, right on the top, the easy part. Yeah. Where’s the, you said a fuse box, where, right below?
SPEAKER 09 :
It’s just right above, just to the rear of the battery on the strut tower. Oh. Yeah. Under the hood. Under the hood, yeah. Under the hood, yeah.

No, they’ll all make it, especially the older ones will do that, absolutely. They’ve got a mechanical injector pump, and that’s pretty normal.

No, and that car’s still worth it. If it’s in paint interior, the rest of the car is in great condition, is it worth fixing? Absolutely.

Don’t even ask. Which is crazy. It’s just what they do. Now, and here’s why. And I can explain this a little bit and probably will for next week’s, you know, the Extra Mile show that we do from 3 to 4 o’clock, which you guys can listen to today. Part of that is because what happens in a lot of insurance claims, which sometimes happens on repair shop, you know, the repair shop sides of things, but not as often. Typically on the collision side, what happens is they start working on the vehicle. And as you get into it, you realize, okay, well, we didn’t see this damage because this was hidden by X, Y, Z. In fact, in some cases, until the car starts to be disassembled, you can’t see all of the damage. Kind of like taking a transmission apart. It’s all internal. You really don’t know how much stuff’s going on until you actually get into it. The collision side of it is the same. On an insurance claim, insurance companies understand this, and they even kind of build some of that in on the front side of a claim, knowing we may have some supplemental, they call it, claims. And they’re used to that. the general public is not right so when a general public person just drops off a car and they say the estimates you know 5500 to fix this they’re thinking it’s 5500 and yet they might get into it and 5500 might turn into 7500 yeah well now that person’s upset and mad because they think the collision center was being dishonest when they weren’t they just couldn’t see all of the damage now right how do you avoid all of that well in brighton autobody does this explain that on the front side Right. That’s all you have to do. Hey, we’re going to start here.
SPEAKER 09 :
As long as you understand what I am saying.
SPEAKER 05 :
Correct. Put all that in writing and so on that this is where we’re starting. But once we get into it, there may be other damage we can’t see.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, and there’s a high chance of that. Right.
SPEAKER 05 :
Just education. If you educate like we all do, we’re doing now. If you educate properly, it’s really not a big deal. My fear is, or not fear, but what’s going on with the majority of collision centers that are company-owned, and there’s a lot of them now because there’s been huge consolidation in the collision center end of things. So most of them are company-owned. They’re not educating. They’re a factory. Nothing against them, but they’re a factory for bringing a car in, getting a car out.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
And most of them are what we call DRPs, which means they are a direct shop to the insurance company, meaning the insurance company doesn’t own the shop, but they might as well. I’m sorry to say that, but they might as well own the shop because in that relationship, they’re literally telling the collision center what to do and not do to get that car fixed. You’re going to put these parts on. There need to be aftermarket parts, or they can be new parts, or you’re going to do this, or you’re not going to do that. I mean, that’s exactly what happens in a DRP shop. And it’s why when you go in, I’m going to talk about this in the Extra Mile show next week, It’s why most insurance companies will, quote, unquote, steer you to their preferred, quote, unquote, shop because they can control the process whereby going to Brighton Auto Body, who doesn’t participate in that, won’t. Now, my feeling is I don’t want all that. I want the car fixed properly, getting it back to where it was as much as you possibly can to that condition prior to the accident. And I don’t want the insurance company making the decision. Right. I… Has an owner want to make the decision?
SPEAKER 09 :
Because the insurance company is paying the bill.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 09 :
So they aren’t going to pick the better part.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, they’re going to cut corners any time they can.
SPEAKER 09 :
Every time.

They’re going to, whatever they can do to shave costs off. And that’s what they do in the DRP programs. That’s why Brighton doesn’t participate in the DRP programs. Now, and again, I’ll talk about this more in next week’s Extra Mile. You, as a consumer, by law… can choose anywhere you want to go to get your car fixed. It could be Brighton Auto Body or someplace else. Your choosing. The problem is most of the driving public have no idea what I just said. And they’ll call their insurance company or even the person that hit them’s insurance company gets involved, and all of a sudden, well, you’ve got to take it here. And we need you to get this estimate here. And they’ll follow along like they’re in kindergarten. Okay, here’s the line I’m going to follow along.

You got to tell them no. At the end of the day, you decide. And we’ll get Dan on from Brighton Auto Body to talk more about this. But at the end of the day, you should be deciding where you’re going to take the vehicle. You need to be in control of that process on your vehicle, making sure that it’s fixed properly. And brought up speed. I had a long conversation with Dan this week, for example, just on the aftermarket part sides of things. So for some of you that are listening, even in your policy, it’s probably stated that once your vehicle gets to be a certain age, if aftermarket parts are available, that’s what they’re going to use. Right. Because they’re cheaper. And no, they’re not the same. In a lot of cases, the metal won’t be as thick. It might not even be exact lineup when you’re all said and done. In other words, it fits, but not the way the OEM fender or door or quarter panel or hood or deck lid, you get the drift. They’re not the same. They’re aftermarket. They’re just not as… The quality is not at the same standard that the OEM part is. Now, what Brighton Auto Body has done is they’ve got some agreements with some of their vendors whereby they can buy that exact same hood from the dealer they can from aftermarket, meaning you’re going to pay the same at the end of the day, or the insurance company will, meaning you get an OEM part. when it’s all said and done versus an aftermarket part. One of the few body shops around the area that will actually do what we’re talking about because most won’t do that. Most are going to do exactly what the insurance company tells them to do. And I hate to say this, but it’s true. In a lot of cases, they won’t even fight for you. they are really in bed with the insurance companies, and they’re gonna do what the insurance company wants done, not what’s best for you. And I’m sorry to say that, but you guys are in the industry, you see what I’m talking about.

Yeah, you need them to fight for you, but worst case,
SPEAKER 05 :
give me the option to pay the difference to move up to the original part so i know it’s being fixed right or if the insurance is blocking you or go to brighton auto body where they’re going to get you the same part anyways they’re going to do it great and that’s why we have this partnership now i want to give uh roy at protech auto shield a big attaboy because he was the one that really was instrumental in having them become a part of us because he was out there He goes out there a lot. He believes in what we do here. And he was just telling those guys, hey, you really need to be a part of what the guys on Drive Radio, John and the guys have going on. You need to be a part of this. And so, again, had a long conversation this last week and And oddly enough, they’ve listened to our show for a long, long time, knew exactly what we do and how we do things and felt like they would be a good fit as well and had a really nice conversation. And two, something to keep in mind for the people that have classic cars and they get hit by somebody else, say, you know, a different insurance company is involved.

They can still bring that in, get it written up for, you know, we charge, we’re 90 an hour. Normally, which is very reasonable. Also, with insurance, we do $80 an hour.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 18 :
Instead of your typical $62 or whatever.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 18 :
But people always go, hey, is my insurance going to pay that? Or is the other guy’s insurance going to pay it?
SPEAKER 05 :
Gotcha.

And in general, once it’s in a shop, they, you know, insurance companies take things more serious.

True. Good point. Then they do. That’s right. Then they do. That’s right.

Like, like if I just do a claim at my house, They figured I’m going to just take the check and buy a big screen TV.
